Hudson and Rex (2019) s08e06 Episode Script
Conspiracy Theory
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDS]
SPEAKER: Wow.
It's encouraging to see
that this many people
still care about the truth.
[MIC FEEDBACK]
You should be able
to hear me better now.
Thanks again for
making it out to TruthCon,
one of the few places
you will not be called crazy
for asking the right questions.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDS]
Our next speaker, Amber Long,
will be on stage in a couple of hours.
She's apparently uncovered
a new bombshell revelation
to share with us all.
Until then,
check out our vendors!
Blossom's offering herbal
booster shots at stall seven.
And at stall nine,
you will not find alien
evidence this good
anywhere this side of Area 51.
- [AUDIENCE EXCLAIMS]
- Enjoy.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDS]
AMBER: For all my fellow truth
seekers at this convention,
especially loyal
listeners to my podcast,
Seeking Truth with Amber,
after years of documenting
cover-ups worldwide,
tonight, I'm unveiling
No, wait.
Ripping the lid off.
Ripping the lid off
of a much bigger conspiracy
happening right here in St. John's.
Someone among us is
not who they claim to be.
And their activities
endanger every one of us.
[EERIE MUSIC]
If anything happens to me,
I trust that our
community of Truthseekers
will spread the word
about what I've uncovered.
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]

[AMBER SCREAMS]
[UPBEAT THEME MUSIC]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
What do we have, Sarah?
Amber Long, 24.
Three gunshot wounds.
Two to the chest, one to the head.
Well, these look like stab wounds.
- You say she was shot?
- Definitely gunshots.
Just not conventional ones.
I'll need time to determine
calibre and weapon class.
MARK: Two shots to the
chest, one to the head?
In the forces, we used to
call that pattern of shots
the Mozambique drill.
I suggest a professional.
SARAH: The shooter
had a clear objective.
To silence her, maybe?
Looks like Amber was deep
into conspiracy theories.
Government cover-ups, secret
societies, you name it.
So, I was checking out her podcast.
She was into some pretty wild stuff.
AMBER: Have you ever felt that the world
is rearranging itself around
you as you pass through it?
My guest today, Lloyd
Alter, believes that it is.
And that it's because
of quantum microchips
that were embedded in us at birth.
Yeah, she was investigating everything.
Her podcast even
uncovered some big stories
before the mainstream
media got ahold of them.
Jesse, have you found
anything on her phone that
might indicate who might
have wanted to kill her?
I haven't found a phone or computer.
The killer might have taken
them, but I'll keep looking.
Have you established a time of death?
Yeah, I'd say between 17 and 21 hours.
So, she was killed
between 3:00 and 7:00 PM.
- Mm-hmm.
- [SIREN WAILING]
DISPATCH: 437, we're all
clear. 437, all clear.
DONOVAN: Mark. I've
approved the extra crowd control.
Can I assume she's some sort of
a celebrity or ?
Yeah, she works a podcast
that peddles in conspiracy theories.
There's a convention in town right now.
So it's a city full of her listeners.
So are we thinking it's someone who
was angered by one of her podcasts?
Oh, maybe one of the
other conspiracy theorists.
I mean, who knows what it takes
to make someone hold a
grudge in this world, huh?
- Mm-hmm.
- [REX BARKS]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[CROWD CLAMOURING]
[REX BARKS]
MAN: Get your dog off me!
[REX GROWLS]
What? Jocko?
- Get him off!
- [REX GROWLS]
Aus!
Superintendent Donovan, this is
Lieutenant Joaquin Tobias Strickland.
Only my friends call me Jocko.
- Who the hell are you?
- MARK: Lieutenant.
I served in your platoon in Afghanistan.
[REX YELPS]
Goose?
- Oh my boy! Oh my boy!
- Yeah!
Goose, come on. Oh!
I always wondered what happened to you!
I always wondered what happened to you!
I'm a detective with SJPD now.
- JOCKO: Ah!
- This is my partner, Rex.
DONOVAN: And Rex
just picked up your scent
at an active crime scene.
Yeah, Jocko, I have to ask,
where were you yesterday
between 3:00 and 7:00 PM?
I was at TruthCon getting
ready for Amber Long to speak.
- TruthCon?
- JOCKO: Yeah, it's a convention.
- People who ask the right questions.
- MARK: Okay.
Uh Rex, check him.
- Open your hands, please.
- Oh.
[REX SNIFFS]
No gunshot residue.
You think I would hurt Amber?
She was my friend.
We both knew the importance
of getting the truth out there.
And what truth is that?
About Gor Danter.
- Gor Danter?
- JOCKO: Yup.
Shadow ops guy.
Ran secret military experiments,
turning normal people into shapeshifting
reptilians for the deep state.
Enhanced humans.
Coldblooded killers. Literally.
Gor was putting together a strike team
to take over the whole island.
I gave Amber everything I had.
She was going to
expose them at TruthCon.
But Gor Gor got to her first!
Uhh
What were we talking about?
Wait, Goose!
- Is that you?
- MARK: Will you ?
One second, Lieutenant.
As much as it pains me to say
He may be delusional
but we can't rule out your friend.
I'll have Jesse do a deep dive on him.
- Okay?
- Sure.
JOCKO: You're not so
bad after all. Are you, Rex?
[JOCKO CHUCKLES]
Uh, Lieutenant,
where is this conference being held?
It's at the Avalon Community Hall.
- It's happening there all week.
- Okay.
It's not far from the, uh
the abandoned building I set up camp at,
in Redcliffe, right?
If you have any new information,
anything useful, call me.
And if you need anything,
- call me.
- All right, will do.
We might need Rex for the Lizard Wars.
[REX BARKS]
[SIREN WAILING]
Oh, perfect. I mean, he's enlisted!
- Rex.
- See you, pal.
[JOCKO CHUCKLES]
It's like the universe
took her too soon, you know?
I can't believe she's gone.
Yeah, souls never really die.
Her energy is still with us.
[BLOSSOM BREATHES DEEPLY]
You're the one
organizing this convention?
Frank Sharma?
That depends who's asking.
Neville Clark, City Works.
We got complaints about sage
burning in the building.
And a Blossom who is
offering herbal injections here?
It's not an injection.
It's a spiritual cleanse.
FRANK: Okay, what is this really about?
Some kind of government
ploy to shut us down?
They're trying to suppress us, people!
The water fluoride lobby killed Amber.
- I know.
- WOMAN: No.
It was because she learned the truth
about the moon landing
being filmed in Winnipeg.
All right, look. I don't
want any trouble.
If someone gets hurt, it's on the city.
I'm putting it on you.
Oh, excuse me!
Excuse me. No, no, no,
no, you can't have dogs in here.
[REX YELPS]
Aliens use them to
send mind control signals.
So, he's got to go!
Rex and I are SJPD.
We're here to investigate
Amber Long's death.
Of course.
What a tragedy. Amber had the fire.
You two were close?
I work closely with every member
of the Truthseeker community.
Did anyone in the group
have a problem with her?
No.
She was controversial,
but she was loved.
She just actually uncovered
something very big
and she was going
to blow the lid off of it.
Oh. Like what?
She wouldn't say.
She said she wanted to keep it
under wraps until the reveal.
And I trusted her.
I'll need a list of anyone you
know she might have talked to
in the past few days.
- Okay.
- [REX YELPS]
Oh! Whoa whoa, excuse me.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Take me
to your leader!
Don't forget to pay for that.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Surrender your brain!
20 bucks?
20 is good.
Every time.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Resistance is futile!
DONOVAN: Could Amber have been
investigating her own community?
Maybe.
Or maybe someone outside of their group
who's being pestered by them.
And then Jocko thinking that
someone named Gor Danter killed her.
JESSE: Yeah. I ran that name
through the usual North
American databases.
But there's no records, no aliases,
not even a sketchy username.
Yeah.
Well, I hate to say it,
but I'm not surprised.
JESSE: Also, I did some
digging into Jocko's health records.
A few years after you left the service,
Jocko underwent an
experimental treatment
for post-traumatic stress disorder
with a new drug trial that seemed
to make his symptoms worse.
That could explain the delusions.
MARK: Says here he was
betrayed by a trusted translator
who was feeding intel to insurgents,
hiding weapons in the mountains.
Yeah, and that betrayal led
to three of Jocko's men dying
in a cave ambush, traumatizing Jocko.
During the drug trials,
he came to believe
that the army was full of reptilians,
that were created from the
soldiers who were there before.
I guess that translator
was a literal shapeshifter.
Yeah. You're right, it's not the time.
DONOVAN: Okay. But
why would he kill Amber Long?
Okay, he's disturbed.
He's not a killer. Not in that way.
The man took a bullet
for me in Kandahar.
He is a protector.
- Not a murderer.
- DONOVAN: Mark, I understand.
You owe him.
But it's time you start treating him
like the potential suspect that he is.
Uh Mark, there's
something you should see.
Uh, yeah.
Stay.
Stay.
- [TOY SQUEAKS]
- TOY: Take me to your leader.
We come in
Surrender your brain.
Resistance is futile.
MARK: What am I looking at?
A gun that shouldn't exist.
Mk 1 Underwater Defence Gun.
They haven't been
seen since the Cold War.
It fires Mark 59 darts.
That's why the bullet
wounds look like stab wounds?
Yeah. Also, the casing
houses the ignition,
making the weapon completely silent.
So whoever's behind this had
access to something specialized
and knew how to use it.
It might point to Jocko.
One of the other
attributes of the Mk 1 is that
there's absolutely no blowback.
Which means Rex wouldn't have
smelled powder burns on him
- even if he had been the shooter.
- JESSE: Guys.
I might have something.
I know it's circumstantial
but I was watching episodes
of Amber's podcast online
and I read some of the comments.
Now, she has a lot of haters.
But I established that most of them
were out of the province
at the time of the murder,
except for one,
Amber's former co-host
Blossom Jade.
She runs an alternative medicine company
that markets to an upscale clientele.
- You said former co-host?
- JESSE: Yeah. They broke up.
And she's been posting
on Amber's channel
using fake handles, calling
her a shill, a sellout.
That makes her worth paying a visit.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
BLOSSOM: I don't even know why
you're asking me questions, Detective.
I need to know if you had
anything to do with Amber's murder.
Why would I kill my friend?
I'm all about peace and love.
Why were you flooding
her latest podcasts
with hateful comments?
- [REX SNIFFING]
- Be honest.
Did she uncover something about you?
Uncover what?
We found complaints
claiming that your supplements
made customers sick.
Is that why you broke up?
Did she ask too many questions?
No.
She knew that those people
just didn't align themselves
with the treatment.
My messages were about trying
to get Amber to calm down and focus.
She was all over the place
thinking there's some magic place
where all the theories would connect.
And she kept sending
me frantic messages about
every new hidden plan she'd uncovered.
[REX SNIFFS]
I cut her off because I got tired of it.
But I didn't kill her.
[REX GROWLS]
- What have you got there, pal?
- [REX BARKS]
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- Oh!
And here I thought you
were all about peace and love.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
We had a difference of opinion
but not enough for me to kill her.
Then why is there a
recently fired gun at your booth?
That's my dad's.
I have haters of my own.
And when he heard that Amber was killed,
he gave it to me this morning
to practice in case I'm targeted next.
Look, I was here all day
giving out herbal boosters
on the day she was killed.
But
if you're looking for someone
who might have killed her
I'd look at Lance Katanga.
Is that another Truthseeker?
He believes that
abandoned buildings are portals
for beings from other worlds.
He seemed intense, but okay.
And then he started going off.
Not sleeping for a week at a time.
Not bathing. Not eating.
Why would Lance kill Amber?
I think even she turned
away from him at the end.
He could get mean if
you disagreed with him.
Honestly, he wasn't the only one unkind.
Amber needed grounding.
Real support.
And I failed her.
I let her spiral alone.
Okay, then help her now.
Think of anything else
she might have said.
Anything.
The day before she was killed,
she sent me a batch of videos.
Said it was for insurance.
I ignored them.
I don't know. Maybe she
was finally on to something.
I hope they can help
bring her soul to rest.
JESSE: Blossom talked
about Lance Katanga.
He used to be part of
the conspiracy group.
Trespasser, occasional anarchist.
A couple of restraining
orders for resisting arrest.
- Here he is.
- AMBER: Lance, some people say
you're a contentious figure
in the Truthseekers community.
People say they want to know the truth.
But then they turn their backs
when I try and give them the proof.
And what is the truth
you're trying to uncover?
Portals! Every building has vibrations.
Even the abandoned ones.
Especially them.
You must have felt it! Amber!
All those unused liminal
spaces are portals
and beings from other
dimensions are using them
like highways right under our noses!
[REX WHINES]
And why hasn't our community
backed your investigation?
Because I hit it too close to the truth!
And maybe some of them
are travellers themselves
but it doesn't matter.
Because I'll make
sure the people listen.
I'm going to make sure that they pay
for trying to shut me up.
Seems like a sweet guy.
Blossom says he was angry
at Amber for some reason.
Do we have a location on him?
JESSE: I spoke to his mom.
She hasn't heard from him in days.
Seems he's always off the grid.
Great, that makes it harder.
I'm studying the videos
that Blossom sent over.
Most are just static skies,
shaky stars. Maybe a UFO.
Probably a UFO.
Or just a dirty lens.
Look at the last one Blossom
sent to Amber yesterday morning.
AMBER: I know[STATIC] hiding secrets.
NEVILLE: No, there is[STATIC]
This is[STATIC] works!
AMBER: You know it's a[STATIC] !
MARK: I saw him at
the conspiracy convention.
He was citing them for safety issues.
His name's Neville Clark.
He's a City Works manager.
I met him at a city council meeting.
He's a nice guy.
Jesse. Is all the audio like that?
It goes on for another minute or so.
Okay, keep working on it.
- I want to know everything that was said.
- Okay.
Maybe this Neville can tell us
what Amber's latest obsession was about.
NEVILLE: [GARBLED] This
is[STATIC] works!
AMBER: You know it's a[STATIC] !
NEVILLE: Huh. I can't
even tell what I'm saying.
But I remember that day.
She was poking around
government structures.
Okay. Do you know what she
was looking for in there?
Oh, some wild story
about lizards or something.
Reptilians?
- Yeah.
- Mm-hmm.
And that wasn't the only time.
She ambushed me as
I was leaving the office
- a couple of nights ago.
- Oh.
Amber won't be ambushing
anyone anytime soon.
She's, uh
dead.
Oh, for crying out loud.
Didn't deserve that.
That's what happens when
you hang out with people
like that delinquent she was with.
Guy hides out in condemned
buildings talking about ghosts
and other dimensions.
- Lance Katanga?
- Yeah, that's the guy.
He and the girl were
arguing when I saw them last.
He seemed like he
could go off pretty easily.
- Thanks.
- Sure. Anytime.
Lieutenant, I wonder if
I could pay you a visit.
Yeah.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[SEAGULLS CRYING]
You know, Rex,
first week in my platoon,
this one here
went on a chase through the armoury.
I sent him looking
for a rifle suppressor.
[REX GRUNTS]
That's right!
There's no such thing
as a rifle suppressor.
But Mark here didn't know that.
Yeah, told me it was
an experimental piece.
[JOCKO LAUGHS]
Top secret. Had to get clearance
from every officer I could find.
Poor kid. Spent half
a day on a wild goose chase
until someone took pity on him.
Pranks aside, you were a damn
good platoon leader, though.
Look, we're stumped here.
Now, you made a lot of claims
about what Amber was involved in.
The reptilians.
I saw them myself last night
near the Southside Hills.
I got so close I could
see their green eyes shining.
[REX WHINES]
They're on the move, man.
[REX WHINES]
Lieutenant, since you left the service,
have you talked to someone
who can help you process
the things that happened in the field?
You mean a shrink?
They're part of the cabal.
They want to keep this under wraps.
The system's compromised.
What happened to you when I left?
- Gor Danter happened.
- Lieutenant
Gor Danter happened!
We've checked.
We checked, Lieutenant.
There's no one by that name.
You know someone named Lance Katanga?
Oh, yeah.
He was sure what I knew
about the lizards was made up.
Amber stood up for me, though.
Said there's a lot of truths out there.
Where can I find him?
Just look in any ruined building.
But it's not him.
I already told you,
it was Gor Danter.
I hear you. Yeah.
I'll look into that, but I'm
also going to get you some help.
- You know, for real.
- I don't need it.
What I need is for you to believe me!
[SOFT MILITARY BUGLE AND DRUM]
You all right?
Yeah, uh Sorry.
I just saw Jocko.
Seems his mind is
getting even more scattered.
Obviously, left untreated,
PTSD can spiral.
War ends, but it
doesn't leave your body.
How did you manage that?
I'm not sure I did. I just
buried it, got busy, and uh,
told myself I was one of the lucky ones.
Mm.
You know what? I'm gonna
look into something for Jocko.
We ask everything from
people like him and then
forget them the minute
they stop serving.
I'd appreciate that.
[REX GRUNTS]
JESSE: Finally got some
intel on Lance Katanga.
I checked the ticket logs from TruthCon
where Amber was supposed to speak.
Katanga never attended.
But get this, neither did Jocko.
And that's where Jocko told
you where he was, right?
His alibi doesn't hold up.
But you got a location for Lance?
Yeah, I traced his latest ping to here.
In the outskirts of an industrial park.
An abandoned city storage building.
Yeah, Neville said that
Lance was an urban explorer.
Makes sense. All right, Rex.
What do you say we
go take a look? Come on.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
You've got the lead, Rex.
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX GROWLS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFING]
What's your read, partner?
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
I think we just found Lance.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
SARAH: So, we initially
thought Lance had drowned.
But I found this bullet
entry wound in his lower back.
Internal bleeding killed him.
Different bullet than
the one that killed Amber.
And even more interestingly,
the primer residue
tested positive for barium.
Don't modern primers use lead?
Yeah. Exactly.
See the marks,
on the bullet from the barrel?
- Yeah.
- Shallow grooves.
Slower twist rate than modern weapons.
Don't tell me, another
Cold War era weapon.
An M16, to be exact.
These Cold War era military guns,
they do raise a few
questions about Jocko.
I did some more digging
into the PTSD experiment he was part of.
Records show that
a few of the patients
in those experiments
committed acts of violence,
- even homicides.
- Sarah.
Sure, his behaviour is erratic
but Jocko had no reason
to kill that young woman.
I know, but he may
not have needed motive.
He could have just snapped.
Thanks for coming, Neville.
I know that you're a busy man.
Month-end reconciliations can wait.
What's the trouble?
Lance Katanga is dead.
We found him by the water near
an old city storage building.
That explorer kid?
I told them, those
places are full of danger.
There's lots of ways to get hurt.
Well, it seems the way that
he got hurt was by getting shot.
Do you have any CCTV footage
of that area that we can check?
Joe, that place has
been derelict for years.
But I do my rounds every week or so.
I was checking the place
out about a week ago.
And there was an old guy there.
Came as quite a surprise.
He was decked out in full camo
and he was carrying a rifle.
That's the guy.
Where the hell do these
people come from anyway?
You're wasting your time
taking away from what's real.
LANCE: What's real? Like what Lizards?
JOCKO: I want you
to stop talking to her!
If you're not prepared,
you're setting yourself
and her up to be victims!
LANCE: Yeah, I'll take the chance.
Well, this video was
recorded ten days ago.
It was the last time that
Lance was seen alive.
DONOVAN: Jocko would have had training
with the weapons that were used
to kill both Amber and Lance.
And Neville just told
me that he saw Jocko
hanging around the
city facility with a rifle.
Mark.
If Jocko is a bomb waiting to go off,
we have to defuse it.
Yeah.
I'll bring him in.
Lieutenant.
We need to talk.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Oh, so this is how it is, huh, Rex?
And I thought we were friends.
Jocko.
- You lied to me.
- Goose.
I didn't kill Amber.
I didn't kill Lance.
- You've got to believe me.
- Okay, why were you carrying that rifle around?
Why lie about your alibi?
You know you can trust me.
I've lost so much.
I couldn't risk another betrayal.
I was running a solo op.
I needed to be armed.
My rifle never killed anybody.
Why have you been
keeping me out of the loop
on what you've been doing?
Amber gave me intel
during our last discussion
about Frank Sharma.
He was working for the government,
spying on Truthtellers,
flagging the ones they want eliminated.
Jocko.
- Come on.
- Listen no, listen!
That's why I couldn't tell you!
Gor is a deep state operative!
He was using Frank to spy on me.
I even tried to confront
him outside of his house
but he wasn't there.
Do you have proof?
I filmed the whole thing.
The time stamp
That could clear me.
How about Lance?
You were seen arguing with him.
He tried to turn Amber against me!
He even took her to the cliffs
of the Southside Hills,
looking for portal people.
But whatever she saw,
just confirmed what I told
her about the reptilians.
And how did Lance feel about that?
He was mad!
Told me to stay out of it! That's
- That's what we argued about.
- [MARK SIGHS]
Because I wasn't there to protect her,
he got them both killed.
Look, I am I am so close, Goose.
I am so close to proving it.
About the lizards,
Gor, Frank, all of it.
[MARK SIGHS]
What do you know about
the Cold War weapons
that are popping up all over town?
Cold War weapons?
Oh, that's it.
Gor found the old reserve.
- He's arming his strike team!
- Jocko, stop!
There are no reptilians,
no Gor, no strike team.
You need help.
I need your help, Goose!
I need your help!
We don't leave our own behind!
Not in the field.
Not now!
[SOFT MILITARY BUGLE AND DRUM]
Yeah.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
JESSE: Part of Jocko's story checks out.
Lance really did take Amber
to hike up the Southside Hills
where Amber says Lance did
show her proof of aliens.
Texting this video to Blossom,
Amber said that Lance had
shown her in the hills
green lights that don't make any sense.
Strange, pulsing, unexplainable,
just like the government wants it.
Hold, let's just stick to
the facts, please, Jesse.
I'm just trying to
look at the facts, Joe!
I'm sorry.
Say Amber
tells Jocko. He spirals,
hearing about the lights,
because he believes
that the lizard people are
starting their invasion.
SARAH: He also says
that Frank's a government agent
who infiltrated the Truthseekers
to control them, basically.
[REX GRUNTS]
- What? Amber blew his cover?
- DONOVAN: So then Frank kills Amber?
It's a web of crazy!
What if Jocko's not wrong?
Frank started TruthCon ten years ago.
Then he moved it to
Ottawa five years ago.
Now, the funds, they come from an
untraceable account based there.
And payments are made after
each of his conspiracy cons.
- You're thinking CSIS?
- JESSE: Yeah.
So, Frank actually is
working for the government?
- Spy work.
- JESSE: Well, I mean,
good luck getting them to open up.
They're a brick wall.
Maybe not.
I'm going to fly to Ontario.
I know a guy high up at CSIS.
I'd better go in person.
What?
[REX BARKS]
DONOVAN: Mark, it's Joe.
Yeah, I called in a big favour
with one of my contacts at CSIS.
He hemmed and he hawed
but eventually he got me
the intel on Frank Sharma.
MARK: And what did you get?
Jocko was right.
Frank doesn't just run the convention.
He's working for the feds.
FRANK: For the government?
- You think I'm spying for them?
- That's right.
[FRANK SCOFFS] Seriously,
you actually believe that?
We have confirmation from within CSIS.
You've been a confidential
informant for the past five years.
They caught me with
classified documents.
They forced me to work for them.
But I just need to flag
people who might be extremists.
So, Amber was one of these extremists?
Or did she find out who
you were reporting to?
You can't think I killed her.
I was just trying to find out
what she was investigating.
But she wanted to save
it for the convention.
Where were you between 3:00
and 7:00 on the day she died?
Here! I'm running a convention!
- People can vouch for me!
- Okay.
JESSE: Frank's alibi checks out.
And so does Jocko's.
And his rifle doesn't match
the one used to kill Lance.
I should tell him.
- Well
- Apologize.
Joe's already had him released.
Okay, good.
SARAH: So I just got in the updated
tox screen results on Lance Katanga.
It looks like fungal spores
from Aspergillus niger
were found in Lance's lungs.
The fungus places the time
of his death to a week ago
but here's the thing.
There's no sign of Aspergillus
anywhere near the city storage
where Lance was found.
This type of fungus is usually found
in metal-rich subterranean environments.
So he was moved.
- Yeah, it seems like it.
- Okay.
This might be starting to make sense.
I upresed some of the audio
from Amber's argument
with Neville Clarke.
[COMPUTER BEEPS]
AMBER: I know you're
hiding government secrets.
NEVILLE: No, there is no cover
up! This is City Works!
AMBER: You know it's a bunker!
[REX GRUNTS]
[COMPUTER BEEPS]
- Bunker?
- JESSE: Yeah, so apparently,
during World War II and Cold War,
Americans supposedly had secret
bunkers all around St. Johns.
And they would store
weapons and ammunition.
Now, those people, some
may call them conspiracy theorists
- or just people in the know
- [REX GRUNTS]
claim that these bunkers
were never emptied.
They're still loaded with supplies.
But, those bunkers, if they existed
would be full of lead, copper,
iron, aluminium, metals which
Can trap moisture and create an
environment for spores to grow.
- [REX GRUNTS]
- SARAH: Bunkers are usually subterranean.
So, if Lance Katanga was in
those bunkers when he was killed,
that might explain the
spores in his system.
Jocko told me that Amber and Lance
were at the Southside Hills
looking for reptilians.
Okay, well, there are maps of the area
that show the underground services.
You know, electric
conduits, storm drains.
Everything underground, really.
Oh, weird!
As soon as I get to
the Southside Hills
- [COMPUTER BEEPS]
- the data has been expunged.
Huh. I could reach out to Neville.
JESSE: According to the system,
the records were deleted by Neville.
What if Amber and Lance
stumbled into the bunkers
in their conspiracy hunt
and Neville knew?
Well, that would explain
the argument in the video.
She revealed her hand &nd Neville
silenced her? But why?
What's his connection to all of this?
[PHONE RINGS]
- SARAH: What is it?
- It's Jocko.
What have you got for me?
JOCKO: [STATICKY] Goose!
I finally pieced it together.
Pieced what? You're breaking up.
No, listen! I found the shapeshifters.
Gor Danter is moving the
weapons through the tunnels!
And if I don't stop
him now, no one will!
Okay, Lieutenant, tell me where you are.
Listen, Mark. Mark, I
need you to know I'm sorry.
I should have trusted you.
I am going to make that right.
I'm going in the tunnels now.
You're not thinking straight.
Just wait for me.
No, no.
My mind has never been clearer.
Jocko, out!
MARK: I've got to go.
Jocko says Gor Danter
is emptying the bunkers of
weapons through the tunnels.
He is planning to stop him.
We need to get there before
he gets himself killed.
- Yeah.
- JESSE: Send me Jocko's phone number.
I will get you those coordinates.
Done. [CLICKS TONGUE] Let's go.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Jesse, are you sure
there are tunnels here?
I don't see a way in.
I'm using an app now to rebuild
what the underground
topography would be.
There's no sign of Jocko
chasing Gor Danter.
He must have found an entrance.
You know what, Mark?
Give me a minute. I'll get back to you.
All right.
Jocko!
You here?
[REX BARKS]
[REX SNIFFING]
- Okay, back up, back up.
- [REX BARKS]
You've got to be kidding me.
Let's go.
[REX YELPS]
What've you got, Jesse?
Your message said you
might need a warrant?
Well, Jocko's fractured
mind got me thinking.
What if the name Gor
Danter was fractured, too?
So I used an app to
rearrange the letters.
And out popped a name.
Grant Rode.
It's a former military man.
Did time for weapons trafficking.
So, you think Neville was helping
Grant Rode move the weapons?
You could say that.
I'm sending you a picture of Grant Rode.
[PHONE PINGS]
Neville Clark and Grant Rode
are definitely the same person.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
MARK: All right, Jesse. We're going in.
Okay Mark, listen. You should
know this before you go in.
Neville Clark's real name is Grant Rode.
He's the Gor Danter that
Jocko keeps talking about.
It's just the letters rearranged.
So he was right all along.
Well, in his own way, yeah.
Okay. Comms are up and running.
You let me know when you're inside.
Nearly there.
Okay Jesse, we're in.
Okay, great.
The place is rigged for
electricity ad it's got lights on.
So we're probably not alone.
Based on the current readings,
this tunnel has a 60% chance
of being an abandoned Cold War facility
or an alien burrow.
Could go either way.
Glad one of us is having fun.
Okay, we're going to go in.
[COCKS GUN]
Hopefully we'll get to
Jocko before Rode does.
Copy.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Ears sharp, Rex. We must be close.
[DISTANT GUNSHOT]
[THUMPING NOISES]
Easy.
You should have stayed away, Jocko!
I had to stop the Lizard Wars!
[MEN GRUNTING]
Lizard conspiracy!
You're insane!
Ughh!
Conspiracy!
I had to know the truth.
You know what's real?
Business! [COCKS GUN]
These M16s are untraceable.
Get 20 grand a pop for these babies.
And now
[NEVILLE LAUGHS]
And now
you're going to die
for a deranged fantasy!
MARK: Drop it, Neville!
Or should I say
Grant Rode?
[GUNFIRE]
[JOCKO SIGHS]
You okay?
Still watching my six.
Always.
- Shall we?
- Yeah.
No more chit chat.
- [MARK CLICKS TONGUE]
- [REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [REX BARKS]
- NEVILLE: Aghh!
Great job, Rex.
Come on.
We have it all.
Fake credentials.
The guns that killed Amber and Lance.
I really don't need you to talk, Grant.
And you're supposed to
have been a military man.
This was amateur hour.
Everyone else thought
those bunkers were rumours.
I had the foresight to
look where no one else did.
So you made your way into City Works.
Found classified records of
the bunkers in the tunnels
and crates of Cold War era
M16s, Mk1's, M60s, just sitting there.
Forgotten. Untraceable.
Hit the jackpot.
People like their guns.
Yeah.
And it worked fine until Amber
and Lance started poking around.
Chasing reptilians.
[NEVILLE LAUGHS]
[MARK LAUGHS]
My people wore green headlamps
to protect their night vision.
Amber and Lance
they saw us going into the tunnels.
They spun a whole
damn conspiracy about it.
But then they got closer to the truth.
Lance first.
You killed him. Made
sure that Jocko took the fall.
And Amber, I mean
Yeah, she just kept digging.
Maybe she saw you emptying
those bunkers in the tunnels
and then realized what
you were really doing.
So, you had to kill her before she
exposed you at the conference
I worked too damn hard
to let some conspiracy
crank bring me down.
Well, you didn't work hard enough.
[SOFT MUSIC]
I'm glad you called, Lieutenant.
I'm sorry for how I shut you
down. I should have listened.
No, no.
Somebody had to knock
some sense into me.
Ever since Kandahar,
I've been falling apart.
Sarah's found a treatment centre for me.
- I'm ready to go.
- Well, that's good. And, um
You have to remember that,
what happened in that cave
in Afghanistan wasn't your fault.
Someone you trusted set you up.
That doesn't make you
responsible. It makes you human.
[SOFT MUSIC]
You know, the world
would be a better place
if everybody had someone like Rex.
[CLOSING THEME MUSIC]
SPEAKER: Wow.
It's encouraging to see
that this many people
still care about the truth.
[MIC FEEDBACK]
You should be able
to hear me better now.
Thanks again for
making it out to TruthCon,
one of the few places
you will not be called crazy
for asking the right questions.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDS]
Our next speaker, Amber Long,
will be on stage in a couple of hours.
She's apparently uncovered
a new bombshell revelation
to share with us all.
Until then,
check out our vendors!
Blossom's offering herbal
booster shots at stall seven.
And at stall nine,
you will not find alien
evidence this good
anywhere this side of Area 51.
- [AUDIENCE EXCLAIMS]
- Enjoy.
[AUDIENCE APPLAUDS]
AMBER: For all my fellow truth
seekers at this convention,
especially loyal
listeners to my podcast,
Seeking Truth with Amber,
after years of documenting
cover-ups worldwide,
tonight, I'm unveiling
No, wait.
Ripping the lid off.
Ripping the lid off
of a much bigger conspiracy
happening right here in St. John's.
Someone among us is
not who they claim to be.
And their activities
endanger every one of us.
[EERIE MUSIC]
If anything happens to me,
I trust that our
community of Truthseekers
will spread the word
about what I've uncovered.
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [AMBER GASPS]
[AMBER SCREAMS]
[UPBEAT THEME MUSIC]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
What do we have, Sarah?
Amber Long, 24.
Three gunshot wounds.
Two to the chest, one to the head.
Well, these look like stab wounds.
- You say she was shot?
- Definitely gunshots.
Just not conventional ones.
I'll need time to determine
calibre and weapon class.
MARK: Two shots to the
chest, one to the head?
In the forces, we used to
call that pattern of shots
the Mozambique drill.
I suggest a professional.
SARAH: The shooter
had a clear objective.
To silence her, maybe?
Looks like Amber was deep
into conspiracy theories.
Government cover-ups, secret
societies, you name it.
So, I was checking out her podcast.
She was into some pretty wild stuff.
AMBER: Have you ever felt that the world
is rearranging itself around
you as you pass through it?
My guest today, Lloyd
Alter, believes that it is.
And that it's because
of quantum microchips
that were embedded in us at birth.
Yeah, she was investigating everything.
Her podcast even
uncovered some big stories
before the mainstream
media got ahold of them.
Jesse, have you found
anything on her phone that
might indicate who might
have wanted to kill her?
I haven't found a phone or computer.
The killer might have taken
them, but I'll keep looking.
Have you established a time of death?
Yeah, I'd say between 17 and 21 hours.
So, she was killed
between 3:00 and 7:00 PM.
- Mm-hmm.
- [SIREN WAILING]
DISPATCH: 437, we're all
clear. 437, all clear.
DONOVAN: Mark. I've
approved the extra crowd control.
Can I assume she's some sort of
a celebrity or ?
Yeah, she works a podcast
that peddles in conspiracy theories.
There's a convention in town right now.
So it's a city full of her listeners.
So are we thinking it's someone who
was angered by one of her podcasts?
Oh, maybe one of the
other conspiracy theorists.
I mean, who knows what it takes
to make someone hold a
grudge in this world, huh?
- Mm-hmm.
- [REX BARKS]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[CROWD CLAMOURING]
[REX BARKS]
MAN: Get your dog off me!
[REX GROWLS]
What? Jocko?
- Get him off!
- [REX GROWLS]
Aus!
Superintendent Donovan, this is
Lieutenant Joaquin Tobias Strickland.
Only my friends call me Jocko.
- Who the hell are you?
- MARK: Lieutenant.
I served in your platoon in Afghanistan.
[REX YELPS]
Goose?
- Oh my boy! Oh my boy!
- Yeah!
Goose, come on. Oh!
I always wondered what happened to you!
I always wondered what happened to you!
I'm a detective with SJPD now.
- JOCKO: Ah!
- This is my partner, Rex.
DONOVAN: And Rex
just picked up your scent
at an active crime scene.
Yeah, Jocko, I have to ask,
where were you yesterday
between 3:00 and 7:00 PM?
I was at TruthCon getting
ready for Amber Long to speak.
- TruthCon?
- JOCKO: Yeah, it's a convention.
- People who ask the right questions.
- MARK: Okay.
Uh Rex, check him.
- Open your hands, please.
- Oh.
[REX SNIFFS]
No gunshot residue.
You think I would hurt Amber?
She was my friend.
We both knew the importance
of getting the truth out there.
And what truth is that?
About Gor Danter.
- Gor Danter?
- JOCKO: Yup.
Shadow ops guy.
Ran secret military experiments,
turning normal people into shapeshifting
reptilians for the deep state.
Enhanced humans.
Coldblooded killers. Literally.
Gor was putting together a strike team
to take over the whole island.
I gave Amber everything I had.
She was going to
expose them at TruthCon.
But Gor Gor got to her first!
Uhh
What were we talking about?
Wait, Goose!
- Is that you?
- MARK: Will you ?
One second, Lieutenant.
As much as it pains me to say
He may be delusional
but we can't rule out your friend.
I'll have Jesse do a deep dive on him.
- Okay?
- Sure.
JOCKO: You're not so
bad after all. Are you, Rex?
[JOCKO CHUCKLES]
Uh, Lieutenant,
where is this conference being held?
It's at the Avalon Community Hall.
- It's happening there all week.
- Okay.
It's not far from the, uh
the abandoned building I set up camp at,
in Redcliffe, right?
If you have any new information,
anything useful, call me.
And if you need anything,
- call me.
- All right, will do.
We might need Rex for the Lizard Wars.
[REX BARKS]
[SIREN WAILING]
Oh, perfect. I mean, he's enlisted!
- Rex.
- See you, pal.
[JOCKO CHUCKLES]
It's like the universe
took her too soon, you know?
I can't believe she's gone.
Yeah, souls never really die.
Her energy is still with us.
[BLOSSOM BREATHES DEEPLY]
You're the one
organizing this convention?
Frank Sharma?
That depends who's asking.
Neville Clark, City Works.
We got complaints about sage
burning in the building.
And a Blossom who is
offering herbal injections here?
It's not an injection.
It's a spiritual cleanse.
FRANK: Okay, what is this really about?
Some kind of government
ploy to shut us down?
They're trying to suppress us, people!
The water fluoride lobby killed Amber.
- I know.
- WOMAN: No.
It was because she learned the truth
about the moon landing
being filmed in Winnipeg.
All right, look. I don't
want any trouble.
If someone gets hurt, it's on the city.
I'm putting it on you.
Oh, excuse me!
Excuse me. No, no, no,
no, you can't have dogs in here.
[REX YELPS]
Aliens use them to
send mind control signals.
So, he's got to go!
Rex and I are SJPD.
We're here to investigate
Amber Long's death.
Of course.
What a tragedy. Amber had the fire.
You two were close?
I work closely with every member
of the Truthseeker community.
Did anyone in the group
have a problem with her?
No.
She was controversial,
but she was loved.
She just actually uncovered
something very big
and she was going
to blow the lid off of it.
Oh. Like what?
She wouldn't say.
She said she wanted to keep it
under wraps until the reveal.
And I trusted her.
I'll need a list of anyone you
know she might have talked to
in the past few days.
- Okay.
- [REX YELPS]
Oh! Whoa whoa, excuse me.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Take me
to your leader!
Don't forget to pay for that.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Surrender your brain!
20 bucks?
20 is good.
Every time.
TOY: [SQUEAKS] Resistance is futile!
DONOVAN: Could Amber have been
investigating her own community?
Maybe.
Or maybe someone outside of their group
who's being pestered by them.
And then Jocko thinking that
someone named Gor Danter killed her.
JESSE: Yeah. I ran that name
through the usual North
American databases.
But there's no records, no aliases,
not even a sketchy username.
Yeah.
Well, I hate to say it,
but I'm not surprised.
JESSE: Also, I did some
digging into Jocko's health records.
A few years after you left the service,
Jocko underwent an
experimental treatment
for post-traumatic stress disorder
with a new drug trial that seemed
to make his symptoms worse.
That could explain the delusions.
MARK: Says here he was
betrayed by a trusted translator
who was feeding intel to insurgents,
hiding weapons in the mountains.
Yeah, and that betrayal led
to three of Jocko's men dying
in a cave ambush, traumatizing Jocko.
During the drug trials,
he came to believe
that the army was full of reptilians,
that were created from the
soldiers who were there before.
I guess that translator
was a literal shapeshifter.
Yeah. You're right, it's not the time.
DONOVAN: Okay. But
why would he kill Amber Long?
Okay, he's disturbed.
He's not a killer. Not in that way.
The man took a bullet
for me in Kandahar.
He is a protector.
- Not a murderer.
- DONOVAN: Mark, I understand.
You owe him.
But it's time you start treating him
like the potential suspect that he is.
Uh Mark, there's
something you should see.
Uh, yeah.
Stay.
Stay.
- [TOY SQUEAKS]
- TOY: Take me to your leader.
We come in
Surrender your brain.
Resistance is futile.
MARK: What am I looking at?
A gun that shouldn't exist.
Mk 1 Underwater Defence Gun.
They haven't been
seen since the Cold War.
It fires Mark 59 darts.
That's why the bullet
wounds look like stab wounds?
Yeah. Also, the casing
houses the ignition,
making the weapon completely silent.
So whoever's behind this had
access to something specialized
and knew how to use it.
It might point to Jocko.
One of the other
attributes of the Mk 1 is that
there's absolutely no blowback.
Which means Rex wouldn't have
smelled powder burns on him
- even if he had been the shooter.
- JESSE: Guys.
I might have something.
I know it's circumstantial
but I was watching episodes
of Amber's podcast online
and I read some of the comments.
Now, she has a lot of haters.
But I established that most of them
were out of the province
at the time of the murder,
except for one,
Amber's former co-host
Blossom Jade.
She runs an alternative medicine company
that markets to an upscale clientele.
- You said former co-host?
- JESSE: Yeah. They broke up.
And she's been posting
on Amber's channel
using fake handles, calling
her a shill, a sellout.
That makes her worth paying a visit.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
BLOSSOM: I don't even know why
you're asking me questions, Detective.
I need to know if you had
anything to do with Amber's murder.
Why would I kill my friend?
I'm all about peace and love.
Why were you flooding
her latest podcasts
with hateful comments?
- [REX SNIFFING]
- Be honest.
Did she uncover something about you?
Uncover what?
We found complaints
claiming that your supplements
made customers sick.
Is that why you broke up?
Did she ask too many questions?
No.
She knew that those people
just didn't align themselves
with the treatment.
My messages were about trying
to get Amber to calm down and focus.
She was all over the place
thinking there's some magic place
where all the theories would connect.
And she kept sending
me frantic messages about
every new hidden plan she'd uncovered.
[REX SNIFFS]
I cut her off because I got tired of it.
But I didn't kill her.
[REX GROWLS]
- What have you got there, pal?
- [REX BARKS]
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- Oh!
And here I thought you
were all about peace and love.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
We had a difference of opinion
but not enough for me to kill her.
Then why is there a
recently fired gun at your booth?
That's my dad's.
I have haters of my own.
And when he heard that Amber was killed,
he gave it to me this morning
to practice in case I'm targeted next.
Look, I was here all day
giving out herbal boosters
on the day she was killed.
But
if you're looking for someone
who might have killed her
I'd look at Lance Katanga.
Is that another Truthseeker?
He believes that
abandoned buildings are portals
for beings from other worlds.
He seemed intense, but okay.
And then he started going off.
Not sleeping for a week at a time.
Not bathing. Not eating.
Why would Lance kill Amber?
I think even she turned
away from him at the end.
He could get mean if
you disagreed with him.
Honestly, he wasn't the only one unkind.
Amber needed grounding.
Real support.
And I failed her.
I let her spiral alone.
Okay, then help her now.
Think of anything else
she might have said.
Anything.
The day before she was killed,
she sent me a batch of videos.
Said it was for insurance.
I ignored them.
I don't know. Maybe she
was finally on to something.
I hope they can help
bring her soul to rest.
JESSE: Blossom talked
about Lance Katanga.
He used to be part of
the conspiracy group.
Trespasser, occasional anarchist.
A couple of restraining
orders for resisting arrest.
- Here he is.
- AMBER: Lance, some people say
you're a contentious figure
in the Truthseekers community.
People say they want to know the truth.
But then they turn their backs
when I try and give them the proof.
And what is the truth
you're trying to uncover?
Portals! Every building has vibrations.
Even the abandoned ones.
Especially them.
You must have felt it! Amber!
All those unused liminal
spaces are portals
and beings from other
dimensions are using them
like highways right under our noses!
[REX WHINES]
And why hasn't our community
backed your investigation?
Because I hit it too close to the truth!
And maybe some of them
are travellers themselves
but it doesn't matter.
Because I'll make
sure the people listen.
I'm going to make sure that they pay
for trying to shut me up.
Seems like a sweet guy.
Blossom says he was angry
at Amber for some reason.
Do we have a location on him?
JESSE: I spoke to his mom.
She hasn't heard from him in days.
Seems he's always off the grid.
Great, that makes it harder.
I'm studying the videos
that Blossom sent over.
Most are just static skies,
shaky stars. Maybe a UFO.
Probably a UFO.
Or just a dirty lens.
Look at the last one Blossom
sent to Amber yesterday morning.
AMBER: I know[STATIC] hiding secrets.
NEVILLE: No, there is[STATIC]
This is[STATIC] works!
AMBER: You know it's a[STATIC] !
MARK: I saw him at
the conspiracy convention.
He was citing them for safety issues.
His name's Neville Clark.
He's a City Works manager.
I met him at a city council meeting.
He's a nice guy.
Jesse. Is all the audio like that?
It goes on for another minute or so.
Okay, keep working on it.
- I want to know everything that was said.
- Okay.
Maybe this Neville can tell us
what Amber's latest obsession was about.
NEVILLE: [GARBLED] This
is[STATIC] works!
AMBER: You know it's a[STATIC] !
NEVILLE: Huh. I can't
even tell what I'm saying.
But I remember that day.
She was poking around
government structures.
Okay. Do you know what she
was looking for in there?
Oh, some wild story
about lizards or something.
Reptilians?
- Yeah.
- Mm-hmm.
And that wasn't the only time.
She ambushed me as
I was leaving the office
- a couple of nights ago.
- Oh.
Amber won't be ambushing
anyone anytime soon.
She's, uh
dead.
Oh, for crying out loud.
Didn't deserve that.
That's what happens when
you hang out with people
like that delinquent she was with.
Guy hides out in condemned
buildings talking about ghosts
and other dimensions.
- Lance Katanga?
- Yeah, that's the guy.
He and the girl were
arguing when I saw them last.
He seemed like he
could go off pretty easily.
- Thanks.
- Sure. Anytime.
Lieutenant, I wonder if
I could pay you a visit.
Yeah.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[SEAGULLS CRYING]
You know, Rex,
first week in my platoon,
this one here
went on a chase through the armoury.
I sent him looking
for a rifle suppressor.
[REX GRUNTS]
That's right!
There's no such thing
as a rifle suppressor.
But Mark here didn't know that.
Yeah, told me it was
an experimental piece.
[JOCKO LAUGHS]
Top secret. Had to get clearance
from every officer I could find.
Poor kid. Spent half
a day on a wild goose chase
until someone took pity on him.
Pranks aside, you were a damn
good platoon leader, though.
Look, we're stumped here.
Now, you made a lot of claims
about what Amber was involved in.
The reptilians.
I saw them myself last night
near the Southside Hills.
I got so close I could
see their green eyes shining.
[REX WHINES]
They're on the move, man.
[REX WHINES]
Lieutenant, since you left the service,
have you talked to someone
who can help you process
the things that happened in the field?
You mean a shrink?
They're part of the cabal.
They want to keep this under wraps.
The system's compromised.
What happened to you when I left?
- Gor Danter happened.
- Lieutenant
Gor Danter happened!
We've checked.
We checked, Lieutenant.
There's no one by that name.
You know someone named Lance Katanga?
Oh, yeah.
He was sure what I knew
about the lizards was made up.
Amber stood up for me, though.
Said there's a lot of truths out there.
Where can I find him?
Just look in any ruined building.
But it's not him.
I already told you,
it was Gor Danter.
I hear you. Yeah.
I'll look into that, but I'm
also going to get you some help.
- You know, for real.
- I don't need it.
What I need is for you to believe me!
[SOFT MILITARY BUGLE AND DRUM]
You all right?
Yeah, uh Sorry.
I just saw Jocko.
Seems his mind is
getting even more scattered.
Obviously, left untreated,
PTSD can spiral.
War ends, but it
doesn't leave your body.
How did you manage that?
I'm not sure I did. I just
buried it, got busy, and uh,
told myself I was one of the lucky ones.
Mm.
You know what? I'm gonna
look into something for Jocko.
We ask everything from
people like him and then
forget them the minute
they stop serving.
I'd appreciate that.
[REX GRUNTS]
JESSE: Finally got some
intel on Lance Katanga.
I checked the ticket logs from TruthCon
where Amber was supposed to speak.
Katanga never attended.
But get this, neither did Jocko.
And that's where Jocko told
you where he was, right?
His alibi doesn't hold up.
But you got a location for Lance?
Yeah, I traced his latest ping to here.
In the outskirts of an industrial park.
An abandoned city storage building.
Yeah, Neville said that
Lance was an urban explorer.
Makes sense. All right, Rex.
What do you say we
go take a look? Come on.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
You've got the lead, Rex.
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX GROWLS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFING]
What's your read, partner?
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
I think we just found Lance.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
SARAH: So, we initially
thought Lance had drowned.
But I found this bullet
entry wound in his lower back.
Internal bleeding killed him.
Different bullet than
the one that killed Amber.
And even more interestingly,
the primer residue
tested positive for barium.
Don't modern primers use lead?
Yeah. Exactly.
See the marks,
on the bullet from the barrel?
- Yeah.
- Shallow grooves.
Slower twist rate than modern weapons.
Don't tell me, another
Cold War era weapon.
An M16, to be exact.
These Cold War era military guns,
they do raise a few
questions about Jocko.
I did some more digging
into the PTSD experiment he was part of.
Records show that
a few of the patients
in those experiments
committed acts of violence,
- even homicides.
- Sarah.
Sure, his behaviour is erratic
but Jocko had no reason
to kill that young woman.
I know, but he may
not have needed motive.
He could have just snapped.
Thanks for coming, Neville.
I know that you're a busy man.
Month-end reconciliations can wait.
What's the trouble?
Lance Katanga is dead.
We found him by the water near
an old city storage building.
That explorer kid?
I told them, those
places are full of danger.
There's lots of ways to get hurt.
Well, it seems the way that
he got hurt was by getting shot.
Do you have any CCTV footage
of that area that we can check?
Joe, that place has
been derelict for years.
But I do my rounds every week or so.
I was checking the place
out about a week ago.
And there was an old guy there.
Came as quite a surprise.
He was decked out in full camo
and he was carrying a rifle.
That's the guy.
Where the hell do these
people come from anyway?
You're wasting your time
taking away from what's real.
LANCE: What's real? Like what Lizards?
JOCKO: I want you
to stop talking to her!
If you're not prepared,
you're setting yourself
and her up to be victims!
LANCE: Yeah, I'll take the chance.
Well, this video was
recorded ten days ago.
It was the last time that
Lance was seen alive.
DONOVAN: Jocko would have had training
with the weapons that were used
to kill both Amber and Lance.
And Neville just told
me that he saw Jocko
hanging around the
city facility with a rifle.
Mark.
If Jocko is a bomb waiting to go off,
we have to defuse it.
Yeah.
I'll bring him in.
Lieutenant.
We need to talk.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Oh, so this is how it is, huh, Rex?
And I thought we were friends.
Jocko.
- You lied to me.
- Goose.
I didn't kill Amber.
I didn't kill Lance.
- You've got to believe me.
- Okay, why were you carrying that rifle around?
Why lie about your alibi?
You know you can trust me.
I've lost so much.
I couldn't risk another betrayal.
I was running a solo op.
I needed to be armed.
My rifle never killed anybody.
Why have you been
keeping me out of the loop
on what you've been doing?
Amber gave me intel
during our last discussion
about Frank Sharma.
He was working for the government,
spying on Truthtellers,
flagging the ones they want eliminated.
Jocko.
- Come on.
- Listen no, listen!
That's why I couldn't tell you!
Gor is a deep state operative!
He was using Frank to spy on me.
I even tried to confront
him outside of his house
but he wasn't there.
Do you have proof?
I filmed the whole thing.
The time stamp
That could clear me.
How about Lance?
You were seen arguing with him.
He tried to turn Amber against me!
He even took her to the cliffs
of the Southside Hills,
looking for portal people.
But whatever she saw,
just confirmed what I told
her about the reptilians.
And how did Lance feel about that?
He was mad!
Told me to stay out of it! That's
- That's what we argued about.
- [MARK SIGHS]
Because I wasn't there to protect her,
he got them both killed.
Look, I am I am so close, Goose.
I am so close to proving it.
About the lizards,
Gor, Frank, all of it.
[MARK SIGHS]
What do you know about
the Cold War weapons
that are popping up all over town?
Cold War weapons?
Oh, that's it.
Gor found the old reserve.
- He's arming his strike team!
- Jocko, stop!
There are no reptilians,
no Gor, no strike team.
You need help.
I need your help, Goose!
I need your help!
We don't leave our own behind!
Not in the field.
Not now!
[SOFT MILITARY BUGLE AND DRUM]
Yeah.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
JESSE: Part of Jocko's story checks out.
Lance really did take Amber
to hike up the Southside Hills
where Amber says Lance did
show her proof of aliens.
Texting this video to Blossom,
Amber said that Lance had
shown her in the hills
green lights that don't make any sense.
Strange, pulsing, unexplainable,
just like the government wants it.
Hold, let's just stick to
the facts, please, Jesse.
I'm just trying to
look at the facts, Joe!
I'm sorry.
Say Amber
tells Jocko. He spirals,
hearing about the lights,
because he believes
that the lizard people are
starting their invasion.
SARAH: He also says
that Frank's a government agent
who infiltrated the Truthseekers
to control them, basically.
[REX GRUNTS]
- What? Amber blew his cover?
- DONOVAN: So then Frank kills Amber?
It's a web of crazy!
What if Jocko's not wrong?
Frank started TruthCon ten years ago.
Then he moved it to
Ottawa five years ago.
Now, the funds, they come from an
untraceable account based there.
And payments are made after
each of his conspiracy cons.
- You're thinking CSIS?
- JESSE: Yeah.
So, Frank actually is
working for the government?
- Spy work.
- JESSE: Well, I mean,
good luck getting them to open up.
They're a brick wall.
Maybe not.
I'm going to fly to Ontario.
I know a guy high up at CSIS.
I'd better go in person.
What?
[REX BARKS]
DONOVAN: Mark, it's Joe.
Yeah, I called in a big favour
with one of my contacts at CSIS.
He hemmed and he hawed
but eventually he got me
the intel on Frank Sharma.
MARK: And what did you get?
Jocko was right.
Frank doesn't just run the convention.
He's working for the feds.
FRANK: For the government?
- You think I'm spying for them?
- That's right.
[FRANK SCOFFS] Seriously,
you actually believe that?
We have confirmation from within CSIS.
You've been a confidential
informant for the past five years.
They caught me with
classified documents.
They forced me to work for them.
But I just need to flag
people who might be extremists.
So, Amber was one of these extremists?
Or did she find out who
you were reporting to?
You can't think I killed her.
I was just trying to find out
what she was investigating.
But she wanted to save
it for the convention.
Where were you between 3:00
and 7:00 on the day she died?
Here! I'm running a convention!
- People can vouch for me!
- Okay.
JESSE: Frank's alibi checks out.
And so does Jocko's.
And his rifle doesn't match
the one used to kill Lance.
I should tell him.
- Well
- Apologize.
Joe's already had him released.
Okay, good.
SARAH: So I just got in the updated
tox screen results on Lance Katanga.
It looks like fungal spores
from Aspergillus niger
were found in Lance's lungs.
The fungus places the time
of his death to a week ago
but here's the thing.
There's no sign of Aspergillus
anywhere near the city storage
where Lance was found.
This type of fungus is usually found
in metal-rich subterranean environments.
So he was moved.
- Yeah, it seems like it.
- Okay.
This might be starting to make sense.
I upresed some of the audio
from Amber's argument
with Neville Clarke.
[COMPUTER BEEPS]
AMBER: I know you're
hiding government secrets.
NEVILLE: No, there is no cover
up! This is City Works!
AMBER: You know it's a bunker!
[REX GRUNTS]
[COMPUTER BEEPS]
- Bunker?
- JESSE: Yeah, so apparently,
during World War II and Cold War,
Americans supposedly had secret
bunkers all around St. Johns.
And they would store
weapons and ammunition.
Now, those people, some
may call them conspiracy theorists
- or just people in the know
- [REX GRUNTS]
claim that these bunkers
were never emptied.
They're still loaded with supplies.
But, those bunkers, if they existed
would be full of lead, copper,
iron, aluminium, metals which
Can trap moisture and create an
environment for spores to grow.
- [REX GRUNTS]
- SARAH: Bunkers are usually subterranean.
So, if Lance Katanga was in
those bunkers when he was killed,
that might explain the
spores in his system.
Jocko told me that Amber and Lance
were at the Southside Hills
looking for reptilians.
Okay, well, there are maps of the area
that show the underground services.
You know, electric
conduits, storm drains.
Everything underground, really.
Oh, weird!
As soon as I get to
the Southside Hills
- [COMPUTER BEEPS]
- the data has been expunged.
Huh. I could reach out to Neville.
JESSE: According to the system,
the records were deleted by Neville.
What if Amber and Lance
stumbled into the bunkers
in their conspiracy hunt
and Neville knew?
Well, that would explain
the argument in the video.
She revealed her hand &nd Neville
silenced her? But why?
What's his connection to all of this?
[PHONE RINGS]
- SARAH: What is it?
- It's Jocko.
What have you got for me?
JOCKO: [STATICKY] Goose!
I finally pieced it together.
Pieced what? You're breaking up.
No, listen! I found the shapeshifters.
Gor Danter is moving the
weapons through the tunnels!
And if I don't stop
him now, no one will!
Okay, Lieutenant, tell me where you are.
Listen, Mark. Mark, I
need you to know I'm sorry.
I should have trusted you.
I am going to make that right.
I'm going in the tunnels now.
You're not thinking straight.
Just wait for me.
No, no.
My mind has never been clearer.
Jocko, out!
MARK: I've got to go.
Jocko says Gor Danter
is emptying the bunkers of
weapons through the tunnels.
He is planning to stop him.
We need to get there before
he gets himself killed.
- Yeah.
- JESSE: Send me Jocko's phone number.
I will get you those coordinates.
Done. [CLICKS TONGUE] Let's go.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Jesse, are you sure
there are tunnels here?
I don't see a way in.
I'm using an app now to rebuild
what the underground
topography would be.
There's no sign of Jocko
chasing Gor Danter.
He must have found an entrance.
You know what, Mark?
Give me a minute. I'll get back to you.
All right.
Jocko!
You here?
[REX BARKS]
[REX SNIFFING]
- Okay, back up, back up.
- [REX BARKS]
You've got to be kidding me.
Let's go.
[REX YELPS]
What've you got, Jesse?
Your message said you
might need a warrant?
Well, Jocko's fractured
mind got me thinking.
What if the name Gor
Danter was fractured, too?
So I used an app to
rearrange the letters.
And out popped a name.
Grant Rode.
It's a former military man.
Did time for weapons trafficking.
So, you think Neville was helping
Grant Rode move the weapons?
You could say that.
I'm sending you a picture of Grant Rode.
[PHONE PINGS]
Neville Clark and Grant Rode
are definitely the same person.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
MARK: All right, Jesse. We're going in.
Okay Mark, listen. You should
know this before you go in.
Neville Clark's real name is Grant Rode.
He's the Gor Danter that
Jocko keeps talking about.
It's just the letters rearranged.
So he was right all along.
Well, in his own way, yeah.
Okay. Comms are up and running.
You let me know when you're inside.
Nearly there.
Okay Jesse, we're in.
Okay, great.
The place is rigged for
electricity ad it's got lights on.
So we're probably not alone.
Based on the current readings,
this tunnel has a 60% chance
of being an abandoned Cold War facility
or an alien burrow.
Could go either way.
Glad one of us is having fun.
Okay, we're going to go in.
[COCKS GUN]
Hopefully we'll get to
Jocko before Rode does.
Copy.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Ears sharp, Rex. We must be close.
[DISTANT GUNSHOT]
[THUMPING NOISES]
Easy.
You should have stayed away, Jocko!
I had to stop the Lizard Wars!
[MEN GRUNTING]
Lizard conspiracy!
You're insane!
Ughh!
Conspiracy!
I had to know the truth.
You know what's real?
Business! [COCKS GUN]
These M16s are untraceable.
Get 20 grand a pop for these babies.
And now
[NEVILLE LAUGHS]
And now
you're going to die
for a deranged fantasy!
MARK: Drop it, Neville!
Or should I say
Grant Rode?
[GUNFIRE]
[JOCKO SIGHS]
You okay?
Still watching my six.
Always.
- Shall we?
- Yeah.
No more chit chat.
- [MARK CLICKS TONGUE]
- [REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [REX BARKS]
- NEVILLE: Aghh!
Great job, Rex.
Come on.
We have it all.
Fake credentials.
The guns that killed Amber and Lance.
I really don't need you to talk, Grant.
And you're supposed to
have been a military man.
This was amateur hour.
Everyone else thought
those bunkers were rumours.
I had the foresight to
look where no one else did.
So you made your way into City Works.
Found classified records of
the bunkers in the tunnels
and crates of Cold War era
M16s, Mk1's, M60s, just sitting there.
Forgotten. Untraceable.
Hit the jackpot.
People like their guns.
Yeah.
And it worked fine until Amber
and Lance started poking around.
Chasing reptilians.
[NEVILLE LAUGHS]
[MARK LAUGHS]
My people wore green headlamps
to protect their night vision.
Amber and Lance
they saw us going into the tunnels.
They spun a whole
damn conspiracy about it.
But then they got closer to the truth.
Lance first.
You killed him. Made
sure that Jocko took the fall.
And Amber, I mean
Yeah, she just kept digging.
Maybe she saw you emptying
those bunkers in the tunnels
and then realized what
you were really doing.
So, you had to kill her before she
exposed you at the conference
I worked too damn hard
to let some conspiracy
crank bring me down.
Well, you didn't work hard enough.
[SOFT MUSIC]
I'm glad you called, Lieutenant.
I'm sorry for how I shut you
down. I should have listened.
No, no.
Somebody had to knock
some sense into me.
Ever since Kandahar,
I've been falling apart.
Sarah's found a treatment centre for me.
- I'm ready to go.
- Well, that's good. And, um
You have to remember that,
what happened in that cave
in Afghanistan wasn't your fault.
Someone you trusted set you up.
That doesn't make you
responsible. It makes you human.
[SOFT MUSIC]
You know, the world
would be a better place
if everybody had someone like Rex.
[CLOSING THEME MUSIC]
