FBI (2018) s08e08 Episode Script

[HORN HONKING]
Hustle, Quinn. We gotta move.
Hey, I might make this look easy,
but this thing weighs 50 pounds.
Unless you want to run ahead without me
and find another cameraman.
But no one gets my good side
like you do, though.
OK, so do I play it nice and easy?
Ask him about the Red Sea
desalination project?
Or?
Go harder hitting, get his attention.
You mean offend the guy.
The prime minister?
I won't offend him. I'm not offensive.
We both know that you're not
gonna lob a softball at an autocrat.
Uh, let's make sure to get
coverage of these protesters.
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
OK, right here.
[INDISTINCT SHOUTING]
How do I look?
You look beautiful.
[CHUCKLES]
[SIGHS]
Holly Chanwell, look at you.
David, what brings the star
news anchor out from his studio?
Well, my producers have
been camped out here
since 2:00 a.m. for a prime spot.
Good luck getting your question
heard from 40 feet away.
[SNICKERING]
Uh, you know what?
Let's go over there. OK.
[EXHALES SHARPLY]
This is Holly Chanwell
reporting for Corridor News.
Jordanian Prime Minister Mohammad Zoman
is the latest world leader to arrive
at the Near Eastern Economic Summit.
Zoman has come under harsh criticism
for Jordan's recent policy changes
- Stop.
- What?
- What are you
- No. It's over.
All the journalists need
to be in the holding area.
- Can't we just
- No.
Security perimeter needs
to be maintained, ma'am.
- Just move along.
- Oh, my God.
- Come on.
- OK.
Tough break.
OK, hold on a second.
How does Gemma not know
that you were in the hospital?
She was on a work trip, Scola.
By the time she got back,
I just felt like it was old news.
Call me old-fashioned,
but you get poisoned
on the job,
you tell your girlfriend, man.
I mean, Nina would kill me.
That is different.
Nina's an agent.
Gemma is not.
And she already worries about me enough.
That's fair.
I'm just saying, I think
she would have appreciated
the opportunity
to be there for you, you know?
Any woman would.
I'm not trying to push her away.
I just I just think
that a little distance
can be healthy sometimes.
[PROTESTORS SHOUTING INDISTINCTLY]
All right, Jordanian
motorcade's coming in.
[INDISTINCT SHOUTING]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Prime Minister Zoman,
will the princess continue to serve
in the Air Force moving forward?
Prime Minister Zoman, will you
be seeking increased military aid?
[SPEAKING ARABIC]
[SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY]
[GUNSHOT]
[TENSE MUSIC]
[PERSON SCREAMS]
[CROWD CLAMORING]
There's a shooter!
Shooter! Get down!
Everybody, get down!
- Holly! Holly!
- Everybody, down!
Holly! Holly!
- No, no, no, sir.
- No, back, back, back!
- Holly!
- Stay back.
- Stay back. No.
- Holly! Holly!
- Hey, hey, hey.
- Holly! Holly, no!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Holly! Holly!
Holly!

Jubal, someone tried to shoot
the Jordanian prime minister.
They missed and hit a journalist.
All right, ambulance is
gonna be here any minute.
We're gonna need you to hang on, OK?
I saw the shot.
Let him through.
I saw the shot go off.
I was standing right there.
It had to have come from 48,
up high, 20 stories, maybe more.
[GUNSHOT]
[CROWD SCREAMING]
All right, according to an eyewitness,
we're looking roughly at the
intersection of 48th and First Avenue.
Ian, anything from ShotSpotter?
Yeah, its estimated
triangulation is somewhere
within these three buildings,
but the Public Plaza building
is the only one
with a clear line of sight.
Well, that's a difficult shot,
even for a professional.
That could explain why
they missed their target.
Who's got trajectory? Elise?
Mapping it now.
Calculating from the height
of the building,
the shot could be anywhere from
the 18th floor to the roof.
OK, yeah. NYPD, you got that?
We have officers outside that building.
Locking it down now.
[SIREN WAILING]
Hey.
Keep the lobby locked down.
Nobody gets out unless
they've been IDed and cleared.
Jubal, we're inside.
Keep your eyes open.
The shooter could still be
in the building.
All right, so we're gonna
do this floor by floor.
We'll take the roof, work our way down.
- We'll start in the stairwell.
- All right.

[BEEPING]

We're on the roof.
You can lock the elevator.

We're all clear up top.
Scola, looks like the shooter
was definitely here.
Jubal, we found the sniper's nest.
It looks like one spent shell casing,
.30 cal.
OA. FBI! Stop!
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

[GRUNTS]
Hey, back away from the door!
Against the wall now.
Give me the bag.
I didn't do anything, man!
Then why are you running?
You gonna arrest me for that?
[RATTLING]
For graffiti, no.
But there is an active shooter
in the building.
What?
Did you see anybody else
in the stairwell?
I saw a cop on the third floor.
But she didn't say anything.
She didn't even tell me
to go downstairs.
When was that?
- Like two minutes ago.
- What'd she look like?
I don't know, man.
It was just some lady cop.
Jubal, we believe the shooter is a
female dressed in an NYPD uniform.
What else do you know?
She just had this satchel.
All right, folks, listen up.
Our shooter is possibly
a white female brunette
dressed like an NYPD officer.
She's wearing a blue crossbody bag.
If she's in a uniform
She may have already
breached the perimeter.
A bag you're describing
is not part of the uniform.
Well, we're likely dealing
with an impersonator.
Let's see if we can spot the bag.
- Street cams are up.
- OK.
All right.
She's gonna be blending in
with the other officers.
There. She's got a bag.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's gotta be her!
All right, team, we spotted our suspect
ahead of you on 51st.

OK, where did she go?
Yeah, next block's cam should
be picking her up right now.
OK, yeah, she just headed
toward a stairwell to the right.

OK, looks like NYPD got her.
[PEOPLE GASPING]
NYPD officer down!
Get a medic there now!
Our suspect just shot
a cop on that stairwell.
She took off, heading northeast.
We got eyes on him.
We're still in pursuit.
We have EMT on the way.
Stay with the shooter.
I can see her.

FBI! Stop!
[GUNSHOTS]

Oh.

This thing was rigged to go.
Jubal, she's dead.

All right, folks, we have a positive ID
on our shooter, Zoe Morrison.
Ballistics on her sniper rifle
confirmed she tried to assassinate
Jordanian Prime Minister
Mohammad Zoman. She missed her shot.
And then, not ten minutes later,
she was killed
when her getaway car's airbag
was rigged against her.
It appears somebody
hired her to take out
the prime minister and then
eliminated her to cover their tracks.
So I want a complete workup on Morrison.
Maybe she can lead us
to whoever is behind all this.
What do we know about her?
Morrison lived upstate,
worked for a company
that does guided hunts,
winner of the Boone and Crockett
Big Game Awards last year.
OK, so why is
a big game blue ribbon winner
trying to take out
the Jordanian prime minister?
Well, unsure,
but she rented a hotel room
across the street from the location
of the shooting for the past two days,
presumably to plan the assassination.
Right, well, whoever killed Morrison
wanted the trail to stop with her,
so let's make sure it doesn't.
We need to figure out
why Morrison was hired
for a political assassination.
Or
Or? Or what?
What if we're looking at this all wrong?
- Hey, you got a second?
- Yeah. Update?
Yeah. You're not gonna like this.
This is Ian's simulation
of the bullet's trajectory
from Morrison's perch.
And even adjusting for
the wind from this angle,
she could have killed the prime minister
here, here, or here.
Instead, Morrison waits
until he moves here,
which is a much harder shot, unless
Zoman was never in the crosshairs.
It is not until
Holly Chanwell steps forward
that Morrison takes a shot.
I mean, if she wanted
the prime minister dead,
he would be.
So that would mean Holly Chanwell
wasn't collateral damage.
She was the target all along.
And her proximity to a world
leader was part of the killer's plan.
It masked the attempt on Holly's life.
It wasn't an attempt.
I just got the call.
Holly Chanwell died on the
operating table 15 minutes ago.
OK.
[PHONE RUMBLING]
Got a lead.
- Elise, you got something?
- Yeah.
Suspicious activity report popped
on our shooter, Zoe Morrison.
She received two large wire transfers
in the past week, 30 grand a pop.
Down payment for today's work?
Right.
Can we trace the money, figure out
who wanted this journalist dead?
Not yet. Money came from a shell company
in the British Virgin Islands.
OK, so this big game hunter
was actually a contract killer,
just an unconventional one
nobody would see coming.
All right, folks, if you have not heard,
we have reason to believe
the actual target
in today's shooting was Holly Chanwell.
It was no accident that she got shot.
So why would someone
go to all this trouble
to have this journalist killed?
Well, she was a national
security reporter at Corridor Daily.
It says here, her fearless work
led to policy changes
in the U.S. and abroad.
She recently blew the lid wide
open on an international crypto scam.
What was she working on today?
Is it possible one of
her stories got her killed?
We spoke to her editor.
He said Holly had full autonomy.
If this is about a new story
she was working on,
he can't help us.
What about Holly's cameraman?
His name is Quinn Han.
They worked together for three years.
He has a co-credit on every story.
He could be next.
Where is he now?
- I think Gemma saw the news.
- Probably.
Bet she just wants to know you're safe.
Hey, Gem. Hey, sorry.
I meant to call earlier.
It's been a crazy morning.
I saw. And I figured.
I know you would tell me
if something was wrong.
Or Maggie would text me, at least.
You two text?
Yeah, no, it's all good.
Um, are we still on for tonight?
Only if it still works for you.
If you need to work late again, it's OK.
We can reschedule.
No, no, no. Let's do it.
Can you meet me at Lola's, though?
Sounds good.
Yeah, I'll see you tonight.
Was I right?
No, you weren't right.
I just feel like I have accidentally
trained her to expect me
to cancel every time.
Are you ever gonna tell her
you were poisoned?
Scola. Is everybody a gossip now?
Oh, come on.
Relationships with this job
is not an easy match.
But what you two have
been through together
is very different.
You gotta let her in, OA.
- Yeah.
- [PHONE BUZZING]
Hang on.
Ian got a location on Quinn.
His phone just pinged in Greenpoint.
All right.
[TENSE MUSIC]

Quinn Han, FBI.
- Don't move.
- Special Agent Bell.
This is Special Agent Zidan.
I saw you this morning.
You tried to save Holly's life.
I'm really sorry that happened.
Here's the thing, Quinn.
We think that Holly was
the intended target.
That's why we're here.
[SIGHS]
But you already knew that.
Uh, just that it was possible.
I couldn't tell if I was being paranoid
or if it was just the grief just looking
- to make sense of everything.
- OK.
Were you working on an assignment
that put you guys in danger?
There was a story.
We both knew it was dangerous, but we
we thought it was too
important to not report.
We agreed to share the risk.
OK, what was the story, Quinn?
It's better if I show you.
- But not here.
- OK. Let's go.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Get down!
[GUNSHOTS] Whoa!
Get down!
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Quinn!

Ah!
[GUNSHOTS]
Quinn! Quinn!

[ENGINE REVVING]
[TIRES SQUEALING]

- Hey! Stop!
- Help! Let me go!
Stop! Hey!
[TIRES SQUEALING]
[ENGINE REVVING]
Damn it.
[TENSE MUSIC]

Who the hell are these guys?
I don't know, but they're determined
to get their hands on Quinn.
Not enough there, right?
You said you have another shot
of the car driving away?
Or yeah.
Tell me we have enough here
to get facial rec
on at least one of Quinn's abductors?
Couldn't get a clear shot of the driver,
but we were able to tag
the other abductor.
OK.
CPD just came back positive.
Yinpiao Min, been here three weeks
on a tourist visa.
He's a Chinese national who served
in the People's Liberation Army.
[OMINOUS MUSIC]

Uh, OK.
People, we need to dig into this man.
I want to know where
he eats, where he sleeps.
Are you really thinking
the Chinese government
assassinated an American journalist
and abducted her partner? That's
Well, the Chinese government
wouldn't just be violating
U.S. sovereignty.
They would be risking trade agreements,
economic sanctions
it's a diplomatic crisis.
Wars have been started over less.
We we don't know yet he's
acting on behalf of the CCP,
but if he is
I don't see a scenario
where things don't escalate.
- OK, I got something.
- Yeah.
Looks like Yinpiao makes
frequent withdrawals
from Industrial Union ATMs.
They do not charge currency conversions
from yuan to dollars.
Uses the one at Mott and Hester.
His last withdrawal was
this morning, 9:56 a.m.
Yeah, we can't really see
where he came from.
Can you see if there's a
street cam from that location?
Yep.
Here we go.
All right. OK.
Yeah, let's let's rewind it,
see which direction he came from.

What building is that?
That is a property management
company called Grayford.
All right, let's shake some trees.

[KNOCKING]
- Can I help you?
- Uh, hope so.
Special Agent Scola and Ramos
with the FBI.
Wondering if you've seen
this guy around,
a person by the name of Yinpiao Min.
Hmm.
I'm sorry.
I'm not seeing any owners
or leases in this name.
Oh.
Well, we have footage of him
leaving this exact building
four hours ago.
I've been here all day.
Sorry to say,
we've had no such visitors.
Yeah? What about employees?
I don't have access to those files.
Well, you call someone who does.
One moment.
Thanks.
Whoa, what are you doing?
Excuse me, ma'am?
Back away from the desk now.
Show me your hands.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Come.

This is Special Agent Ramos
requesting additional agents
to Grayford Management.
We got one in custody on site,
but additional hostiles are suspected.

That's different
realtor with a panic button.

[BEEPS, CLICKS]

Whew.
Scola, someone left behind
some serious firepower.

QBZ-191s, Chinese military issue.
[SOFT GROANING]

[COUGHING]

Hey.
It's OK.
I'm FBI, OK?
You're safe now.
What's your name?
[BREATHING SHAKILY]
Roll an ambo to Grayford Management,
Mott and Hester.
We have an unconscious
torture victim in the basement.

What the hell is this place?
Do you think the Chinese
are up to their old tricks?
So China had those two
extralegal precincts
operating in Manhattan.
- We shut them down.
- Yeah, we did.
Beijing even issued a rare apology
when we discovered
the East Broadway opp.
Well, they neglected
to mention this operation,
so apology deeply not accepted.
No, we don't even know what this is yet
or how far up the chain
of command it goes.
Right, that's true.
And we know they're good
at covering their tracks.
They had the whole world believing
Holly Chanwell's death was
about Middle East business.
Instead, we find
a Chinese torture chamber.
We need to figure out
who is giving these orders.
Well, the only suspect we
have so far is the Yinpiao Min.
Was there any sign of him
at the precinct?
No, the building is right
above the Doyer Street tunnels.
So we think he escaped through them
when the receptionist
hit the panic button.
The receptionist is still in custody,
but she is refusing to talk.
What about the woman
that they held captive?
Uh, Pauline Dou.
She's an accountant for
a Chinatown community center.
Yeah, well, they tortured
and detained her
- at that facility.
- [PHONE BUZZING]
She pissed off someone in Beijing.
- Medical just cleared her.
- All right.
Let's go pay Ms. Dou a visit.
- Maybe she can shed some light.
- Yeah.
We know that China has been
using these precincts
to intimidate American citizens
of Chinese descent,
people who spoke out about the CCP.
This goes so much further
than intimidation.
Why do you think they took you?
There's a pro-democracy group.
We took a stand
after the internment camps
were revealed.
The Uyghur people in western China.
All we wanted was for things
to be better there for everyone.
We started posting online
anonymously, we thought.
But then, one by one,
my friends started disappearing.
And you think the people that did this
- took the others before?
- Yes.
Their families in China
hadn't heard from them.
And that's when you
reached out to Holly Chanwell
and her partner, Quinn?
I knew that they investigated
dangerous stories,
that they were fearless.
I told them everything that I knew,
that my friends had vanished,
that I thought I was being followed.
I was right.
They snatched me right off
the street, broad daylight.
How long were you held at the station?
Two days.
Time didn't make sense in there.
You were tortured, right?
Why? What did they want?
They wanted Holly and Quinn.
They searched my phone,
found
communication between me and Holly.
It wouldn't have been hard to figure out
Quinn's involvement from there.
They were demanding whatever
evidence he had on them.
I don't know what he has,
but if he's still alive,
it's only because
they haven't found it yet.

I had to listen to Quinn
scream out in pain
from that pit that they had.
Do you have any idea where he might be?
They moved him as soon
as your agents arrived,
but it's not long before they
get what they want from him,
and then they'll ratline him
back to China.
You mean extraordinary rendition?
They'll smuggle him out of the U.S.
through a secret route,
place him in a work camp in China.
Officially, China calls them
"vocational education
and training centers,"
but they're work camps.
Quinn is a U.S. citizen.
I'm a U.S. citizen.
So were my friends.
We're all U.S. citizens.
These people, they don't care.
And if you don't find this ratline soon,
no one will ever see Quinn again.
[ELEVATOR BELL DINGS]
A ratline from New York to China?
That's absurd.
I spoke with the CIA and NYPD.
No one has any leads on this.
OK, well, I am seeing missing persons
reports on Pauline's friends
all U.S. citizens, like she said.
So it is at least possible
that if we don't find Quinn Han soon,
he will be ratlined, right?
China state security
is extremely careful.
I just I can't see them
attempting this, knowing the risks.
OK, so what if we are dealing with
an unsanctioned operation here?
It could be the PRC
doesn't know it exists.
Is there anyone at the Chinese consulate
you know who could help us
figure out how far up this goes?
Envoy General Wei Chen.
We have a mutual respect,
but he's not gonna give us any intel
- we don't already have.
- Right.
But if we're able to identify
the guilty parties first without him
Well, assuming he's not involved,
he's gonna want to shut that down.
And it sounds like the Chinese agents
hadn't gotten what
they wanted from Quinn yet.
Which means the evidence
Quinn has against them
may still be here in New York.
They're not gonna ratline him
until they find it.
We need to find out if
Quinn stashed any evidence
before he was taken.
Let's retrace his steps.
All right, so there,
Quinn has the camera bag
when he runs inside.
And then he still has it
when they grab him.
- Can we see inside that hallway?
- No, no cameras there.
Next angle we got is outside.
If they didn't find
the evidence in his camera bag,
he must have removed it and stashed it
in that hallway, right?
Let's go take a look.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Mm.
Not a lot of places
you can hide anything in here.
What are we looking for?
Thumb drive?
Notebook?

Or a roll of film.
Quinn must have been nervous
about Chinese spyware
on his phone or laptop.

Hey, where are we at with Quinn's film?
- Yeah, we're getting there.
- OK.
The old ways are great,
but they are old.
Right.
Now, that should do it.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]

OK.
I just need to convert it
from the negative to a positive.
OK.
That's the location
of their illegal precinct.
Yeah.
- There's the receptionist.
- Yeah.
Oh, they had evidence of
an abduction in progress.
Yeah. So that's Yinpiao Min.
So this must be the crew
that abducted Quinn.
Well, why didn't they call the NYPD?
Elise checked.
There was an anonymous tip,
but NYPD never followed up.
OK, we need to get
facial rec on these two.
So let's get these images to
Wait, that's Lisha Jiao.
[OMINOUS MUSIC]
She's the deputy attaché
at the Chinese consulate.

So this is state-sponsored?
Not necessarily. I've seen this before.
An ambitious agent tries
to impress her superiors.
She thinks she's showing
her patriotism and loyalty,
but she takes it too far.
Right, so maybe she went rogue.
But either way, she has
diplomatic immunity, right?
So we can't bring charges against her.
I need to speak
with Envoy General Wei Chen.
If he authorized this op,
that makes this
an international incident.
Yeah, but if Lisha Jiao
is out on her own, then
Maybe he can help bring her to justice.
Wei.
Isobel.
Should I be worried
about what's in here?
Well, not unless
you're lactose intolerant.
But I'm flattered
you think I'd be so bold.
I'd never underestimate you.
I've heard stories of your field days.
Well, the training never goes away.
I counted three no,
scarf makes four security
that's been circling us.
If Russia wants
to steal sand from a beach,
they send a few elite frogmen
in the middle of the night
to scoop it up.
If we were to do so,
we'd send a thousand tourists
in the middle of the day.
They'd return, shake off their towels,
and we'd have ourselves a new beach.
I thought tourist season ended.
The East Broadway attraction
was very unpopular.
It's over. I promise you.
Looks like you may have
a black sheep in the family.
We saw Lisha Jiao
walking four Shiba Inus
in the middle of the day.
You sure it was her?
She made quite a mess.
We could clean it up ourselves
if you could give me her number.
I'm not sure I could find it.
Well, if you can't,
you may be left with the cleanup bill.
But if you can,
I would be so very grateful.
[PHONE RINGING IN DISTANCE]
Hey, Isobel.
So is the envoy general gonna
lead us to Lisha Jiao?
Yes and no.
We need to have a delicate touch.
Lisha is now a rogue agent,
so Beijing wants to handle her
on their own.
They don't want us interfering.
So even though
they know what she's done,
they won't let us prosecute?
Honestly, we would do
the same in their position.
Do they know where Quinn's being held?
No, but Lisha Jiao certainly knows
where she's been holding him.
China wants to punish her.
Right?
Why don't we use that to our advantage?
We can pretend to offer protection
from her own government
in exchange for information.
Like Quinn's location.
Exactly.
Won't be easy, though.
A spy like Lisha Jiao, she's
gonna know all of these tricks.
But if we can get
the envoy general to buy in,
he can grab her up.
She will believe that she's on her way
to face punishment from the mainland.
Then we show up and intercept.
So the play is,
we make it look
like we're on Quinn's trail,
but we find Lisha instead,
hand her an opportunity
she wasn't expecting.
All right, first let me
sell it to the envoy general.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
Jubal, we are in position.
If the envoy general's intel is correct,
this is where
they'll deliver Lisha Jiao.

Here they come.

Now let's just hope
Lisha Jiao falls for our little ruse.

They're bringing her out.

- FBI!
- On the ground!
Right now. Down on the ground now!
Hands on your head!

Jubal, it's not Quinn.
It's Lisha Jiao, deputy attaché.
Where's Quinn?
[PANTING] You have to help me.
Why would we do that?
We know what you've been up to.
No, listen to me.
These men, they're
Chinese state security.
They're here to send me back
against my will.
Any action I took, I took here.
I should answer for it here!
[TENSE MUSIC]
Don't let my government send me back.
You have no idea.
Please don't let them do this.
Well, last we checked,
you have diplomatic immunity.
So if they want to send you back
to some work camp for the
rest of your life, that is up to them.
Jubal, should we let them take her?
No, no, wait! Listen!
I request asylum.
OK? Asylum.
Got her.
Looks like your envoy
general came through.
Yeah, it's not over yet.
Now we just have to get her
to lead us to Quinn.
So to be clear, you're rejecting
your immunity status for asylum
in the United States?
Yes, yes.
I need protection from
the People's Republic of China,
and I request asylum from
the United States of America.
Please help me.
That depends.
On what?
Where's Quinn Han?

So this is where they're holding Quinn?
That's what she claims.
OK, so how many of
your agents are inside?
- Two.
- That includes Yinpiao Min?
Yes. And they're heavily armed.
They will not surrender unless
they get the command from me.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
You're coming with us. Stay with her.
You will protect me, right?
As we agreed?
The only way you'll have
this country's protection
is if your intel is good.
Stay behind me.

Execute.

- FBI!
- Federal agents!

Clear.
Clear.
I'm gonna check the stairs.

[GUNSHOTS]
Tell your men to stand down.
No one needs to die.
[SPEAKING MANDARIN]
[SPEAKING MANDARIN]
Tell them again in English.
They won't listen to me.
They think I've betrayed the
cause by working with the FBI.
Just do it.
[SPEAKING MANDARIN] Stand down!
Hold your fire!
[GUNSHOTS]
OK, I guess we're
doing this the hard way.
Drop it.
[EXPLOSION BOOMING]

Hands!
Give me your hands right now!
You got it?
Yeah.

[GRUNTING]
[OBJECTS CLATTERING]
[ALL GRUNTING]
You guys good?
Stay down!
[GRUNTING]
Second one's in custody.

Maggie.
Quinn! Quinn!
Hey!
- Is he alive?
- Barely.
Quinn, can you hear me? OK.
SWAT, get him out of here.
Jubal, we've got Quinn. He's alive.
That's it. That's it.
Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy.

This doesn't track.
You don't beat someone
within an inch of their life
if you're just gonna ratline them.
What are we missing?

Hey.
Move that.

Oh! Oh, my God.
You guys are gonna want to see this.

Are those Pauline Dou's friends?
Yep.
There never was any ratline.
[SOMBER MUSIC]

Lisha Jiao was rounding
these people up, killing them.

[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER]
What are they doing here?
I don't understand.
The only way we could
guarantee you would give us
the actual location of the ratline
was to trick you into thinking you had
leverage for U.S. protection.
Before we found you,
we'd already made another deal.
Given the crimes that you've committed,
the U.S. is rejecting
your asylum request.
Which means you are still
under our jurisdiction.
Put her in the car.
Wei.
Thank you for your help today.
In the hands of someone else,
this could have gone very poorly.
Glad we could work out
a mutually beneficial arrangement.
What will happen to Lisha?
Will she be tried in Beijing?
She is now a dissident.
We have a protocol
for dealing with dissidents.
[ENGINE STARTS]
[CAR DEPARTING]
[SIREN WAILING]
[SOFT MUSIC PLAYING]
Thanks.

Thank you for coming my way tonight.
Long day?
No complaints.
But I do have to tell you something that
I should have told you when it happened.
Oh, but you don't have to.
I do. I do.
I have been pushing you away
since you got shot.
I was scared that the cost
of being with me was too high.
And I'm sorry,
but I do not want to do that anymore.
- Gemma, I love you.
- OA, please stop.
I don't want to shut you out.
You don't need to apologize.
I do,
because
There's someone else.
[SOMBER MUSIC]

You cheated on me?
No.
I mean, it's emotional.
We haven't
but yes.

Who?
It's a client on my new account.
I don't understand.
It was just flirting at first.
But he and I have been
spending so much time together,
and he's been so open with me.
And I felt so distant from you.
And I'm I'm not blaming you.
I'm just saying what happened.
[BREATHES DEEPLY]
OK.

OK, um
then that is that.
Right?

Right.
I'm sorry.
