and it is the end of the first
week with my new clients,
Alasdair and Margot Hartnell.
They say that coming here
is the last roll of the dice for them.
They had been on the cusp
of getting a divorce.

and at nine o'clock two fishermen
came across a body about 100 metres out,
directly opposite this spot.
They watched over the body
until the paramedics arrived.
Who else was here last night?
About six people in total.
Four residents, two staff -
the chef and the waitress.
There's some bruising around
her neck and shoulders.
Looks like finger marks.
Paramedics say they're recent
more likely from someone
forcing her down under the water.
They reckon it's murder.
That's why they called us.
So, what, she swam out to sea,
and somebody was with her and did this?
Or maybe somebody was waiting
for her out there on a boat.

when she might be a little bit calmer.

..5:52 in the afternoon.
That's just over an
hour before her swim.

KEIRA: It's the weekend now,
but Monday will be a big day.

she's been murdered.

all the four guests were
having dinner together
at the time of Keira Mayhew's murder.

There are only two

Just before seven o'clock,
Keira Mayhew goes for a swim.
But on the other hand,
all the guests leave the table
once during the evening.
So, in theory, it could
have been any one of them.

Here. At 18 minutes past seven,
Mr Hartnell go to his
bedroom to get his glasses.
And then here,
7:46, Stacey Warber goes to the bathroom
to check her make-up.
And at 8:03, Mrs Hartnell
goes to grab her shawl.
And after that, at 8:30,
Luke Warber goes to his bedroom
to get a bottle of rum.
So, each of them had opportunity
to kill the victim during the dinner?
Except, on the other OTHER hand,
no-one leaves the table for
more than two to three minutes,
and they all return dry as a bone.
OK, so how did one of them
manage to leave the dinner table,
run down to the beach,
get themself somehow out to sea
100 metres, drown Keira Mayhew
Then come all the way back,
dry off,
before returning to the table
in less than a few minutes?
Well
..that's just not possible.

was just over a mile away.
Also, it happened on 1st April 2021.
And Keira Mayhew, she moved
over here six weeks later.
Is it possible that that's what it was?

And I knew she'd had a one-to-one

like, triggered her
..reminded her of her own betrayal.
That's why she was drunk.
So when she was asleep,
I saw her notebook.
I felt sick.
Couldn't even process it.
Couldn't even breathe.
So I just pretended I didn't know.

The night their daughter was killed
in a hit-and-run five years ago,

remember a thing about it.
But ever since,
she's been growing this
feeling of guilt, you know?

done something bad that night.

for her evening dip,
she preferred to swim along the shore,
rather than out from it?
That would mean she'd have
to swim past your bungalow
further along the beach, and
that would give you opportunity
to commit murder.
But when? I told you I was
at dinner when it happened.
Yeah, we have security camera footage
that shows you leaving the dinner table
to get your glasses
at 18 minutes past seven.
I was gone, what, a couple of minutes?
Three minutes at the most.
You're not seriously suggesting
I was able to physically
drown a fit and healthy woman
in that time, without
getting soaked in water?
Yeah, sounds impossible, right?
But I don't think Miss Mayhew
was as fit and healthy
as she might normally be.

We didn't believe Keira was drugged,

And I have no doubt
we'll get confirmation
that there were significant traces
of sleeping pills in her system.
And so, while Miss Mayhew was swimming,
she suddenly felt
drowsy and swam ashore.
When you returned to your bungalow
under the pretence of
getting your glasses,
you ran down to the
beach where Miss Mayhew
was lying unconscious on the sand,
and then you did two things.
First, you grabbed her
neck and shoulders,
making sure to leave bruises,
so it would look like
someone had strangled her
and forced her under the water.
Before moving her into the
sea, for her to be carried away,
making sure that she was face down,
so that, still unconscious,
her lungs would fill with water.
It took less than a minute.
All you had to do now was hurry
back to the dinner table,
and leave Keira to drown
..and let the sea do the
rest of the work for you.
We checked with a local
oceanologist at the university,
and the current in this bay moves
in a north-westerly direction,
which means it would have carried
Miss Mayhew's body diagonally,
taking her from your bungalow, here,
to where her body was discovered here.
And with her clothes being
left on the beach here,
we'd all assume she
swam in a straight line.
Now, you had no idea where the
currents would take Keira's body,
so you had to test it first, didn't you?
You went and found this
..and you threw it into the sea
to observe which route it took,
which was conveniently
in a north-westerly
direction from your bungalow
directly to where Keira
began her nightly swim.
And that's when your plan
finally came together.
Keira's body was found still at sea,
not long after she drowned.
But this ball, left overnight,
ended up washing up ashore.
And that was your undoing.
But why would he do this to her?
Because he didn't want Keira
to help his wife remember.

she preferred to swim along the shore,
rather than out from it?
That would mean she'd have
to swim past your bungalow
further along the beach, and
that would give you opportunity
to commit murder.

at dinner when it happened.

that shows you leaving the dinner table
to get your glasses
at 18 minutes past seven.
I was gone, what, a couple of minutes?
Three minutes at the most.
You're not seriously suggesting
I was able to physically
drown a fit and healthy woman
in that time, without
getting soaked in water?
Yeah, sounds impossible, right?
But I don't think Miss Mayhew
was as fit and healthy
as she might normally be.

And we also know that

that day, at 5pm.

..we believe you spiked her drink

We didn't believe Keira was drugged,

And I have no doubt
we'll get confirmation
that there were significant traces
of sleeping pills in her system.
And so, while Miss Mayhew was swimming,
she suddenly felt
drowsy and swam ashore.
When you returned to your bungalow
under the pretence of
getting your glasses,
you ran down to the
beach where Miss Mayhew
was lying unconscious on the sand,
and then you did two things.
First, you grabbed her
neck and shoulders,
making sure to leave bruises,
so it would look like
someone had strangled her
and forced her under the water.
Before moving her into the
sea, for her to be carried away,
making sure that she was face down,
so that, still unconscious,
her lungs would fill with water.
It took less than a minute.
All you had to do now was hurry
back to the dinner table,
and leave Keira to drown
..and let the sea do the
rest of the work for you.
We checked with a local
oceanologist at the university,
and the current in this bay moves
in a north-westerly direction,
which means it would have carried
Miss Mayhew's body diagonally,
taking her from your bungalow, here,
to where her body was discovered here.
And with her clothes being
left on the beach here,
we'd all assume she
swam in a straight line.
Now, you had no idea where the
currents would take Keira's body,
so you had to test it first, didn't you?
You went and found this
..and you threw it into the sea
to observe which route it took,
which was conveniently
in a north-westerly
direction from your bungalow
directly to where Keira
began her nightly swim.
And that's when your plan
finally came together.
Keira's body was found still at sea,
not long after she drowned.
But this ball, left overnight,
ended up washing up ashore.
And that was your undoing.
But why would he do this to her?
Because he didn't want Keira
to help his wife remember.
