Good evening, everybody.
Welcome to American Idol.
We are coming to you from the stage at cirque du soleil at the mirage in las Vague.
Nice to see everybody.
From our nav nationwide search our judges have cut it down to their top 40 and over the next few weeks this stage will be a true battleground as the judges decide who they are going to gamble on, because for the first time, we are doing a sudden death round, which means survive this cut and get to America's vote.
So lots of pressure on these four tonight.
Say hello to them once again, your American Idol judges, Keith urban.
Nicki minaj.
Veteran Randy Jackson, and the wind and only Mariah Carey.
So let me start with up Randy.
Break it down.
How will this actually work tonight? Ten thing sing tonight, five will go home.
Tomorrow night ten will sing fwaoif will go home.
That will happen until be get down to the top 206789 then America votes.
So Mariah, you've add chance to look back at did contestants in their auditions as the shows have aired.
Are you happen by your choices? I mean for me it was so difficult, because I was very attached to certain people, and we all had to agree, and now it's going to be even tougher, so get - ready.
- Keith, the laid.
They're all ears right now.
Give them some advice.
What are you looking for? I'm just thinking every one of them is talented.
They've just got to now take it to the next level.
Nicki thinking about what you've got to do, Randy said we've got to make a cut tonight.
Is that going to be tough for you, you think? It will be very tough because they'lling bring their "a" game and we really have no idea what it's going to look like at the end of the night.
Ten ladies perform and the judges will eliminate five of them and that all goes down for you tonight n.
The event there's a split decision, Jimmy will can step in and be the tiebreaker.
Say hi to Jimmy over there.
Jimmy is much tougher than he looks.
The same thing is going to happen tomorrow night with the first group of guys and they're watching from the sidelines tonight.
Hello gentlemen of I'd o Idol.
The guys mice have a hard act to follow because there's a huge amount of buzz of these ladies of season 12 and here they are once again.
Say hello to Jenny Beth Willis, Tina torrance can Dominique Strauss-kahn Randy, shuba.
Cree Harrison, Angela Miller, Isabel and Amber hole could.
Holcomb.
Good luck lateis tonight on this show.
For this sudden death round the contest dance can choose any song they want in any genre and we start off with Jenny Beth Willis.
- What is your name? - My name is Jenny Beth Willis.
I'm 17 years old and I'm a junior in high school.
I just perform around my town, at festivals, at school and at church and everything.
I see a star in you.
- I like the boots.
- To be here performing, it's insane but I'm here doing it.
If I got to say that was a great way to start the show.
I have these mixed feelings a little bit between not thinking that was like the best song for you, but I love this effort legaspi confidence that you perform with.
It's so easy to watch, and the range of the song at the end was more than enough so hopefully that confidence will be enough to carry you through tonight.
Hi Jenny.
I liked your voice, but to me I didn't feel like you came alive until the very end when you gave us that big, bright, beautiful smile.
I think everything prior to that, the audience was more of I don't know, excitement than you were actually showing.
I don't know if it was nerves.
I don't know what it was, but I think you could have had so much more fun with the song.
- Yeah.
- Listen.
For me, it's all a little jerky like you never got in sync rhythm with the band, I'd they are were you ahead of them.
I must say the end note was great.
lish the rest of it was that good.
I may spell trouble for you tonight.
- Oh, dear.
- Well, ok.
- How are you? - Good.
- Did you have fun? - I did.
- I had fun.
- Ok, good.
What I felt was first of all, very nice performance, congratulations on that.
What I would do, like if I was saying, I think you could be more dynamic during the veres vocally just to play with it a little bit, you're in front of a big audience.
Could you give them that presence because I mean what I also really liked was the first time you hit, you said the word love, and you took it low and I liked hearing the richness of your voice at that moment in contrast to that last night which was a stone winner.
You know, you're going to work on the rest of it.
There you go.
Jenny Beth results later.
Did it feel like it took you a little bit out of the gate to get ramped up into the song? - Maybe a little bit, yeah.
- All right.
Well, thanks for doing that.
Good to see you.
We wish the best for you later in the show.
Jenny Beth ladies and gentlemen.
After this break, Tina and Adriana lay it on the line in Vegas.
Welcome back to Idol.
We are in the myth of sudden death round here in Las Vegas.
As we find out who will sing for your voats.
Remember, half our tan ladies will be leaving this stage tonight, and they're actually waiting on pins and needles in thoelding room.
We will take a shot.
Hi, girls.
Hang in there.
It's set to be a brutal cut that teena Torres wants desperately to survive.
I'm teena Torres.
I'm from Jamaica queens new York.
If we could have somebody like this come out of Idol 12, I would be personally very proud.
My story is the story of the under the dog.
I'm 28 years old.
This is my last time here, and I know I can do it.
- Beautiful.
That was a beautiful song for you to do.
I don't know that Natasha song but it's also deceptively big song, too, requires a lot of control that I think you've mostly had through that performance.
I particularly like the end.
That's a good control moment for you and I like the diversity of your voice emotionally.
So I thought that was really good.
Why do you look so sad? I'm not sad.
I'm a little nervous, but it's a sad song, so I tried to be there.
- You're scaring me.
- Ok.
Well, you know it's funny, because you reminded me of why I fell in love with your voice before, and when I watched the show, my fans were mad I was saying you had a great voice and tonight they'll be able to tell what I was talking about.
You have control over the song I felt throughout the whole song and you chose a graipgt song and something about your tone reminds me of the R&B singers.
And the only thing I would say is the hair, lose the - hair.
- Cut it all off? Cut it off and go bald.
No, the hair before made you look younger.
This one is aging you, but I loved your performance.
Thank you.
Ok.
Nicki was just kidding.
She didn't want you to cut it all off.
Listen.
To me, guys, this is the start of the night.
This is how you do it! Go, man.
Listen.
You came out.
It was control.
It wasn't perfect, but the thing that I loved is that you connected with the emotion of the song, and I mean you got a beautiful voice and beautiful delivery.
This is what becoming the next American Idol is really about.
I loved it.
I loved it.
Yeah, you know I love you.
I don't want to be redundant, but I do want to say this was all you.
You gave every bit of your emotion, so I understand what you meant when you said it's a sad song, so I was trying to be there.
You went n.
You're like I'm here.
I'm giving this every single word I'm singing I mean.
It's from my heart, and to me particularly in the beginning half of the song, you weren't even trying to do what you were doing.
You were just naturally giving a beautiful, pure performance.
Teena Torres, America.
They talk about the emotion.
You didn't want to see your boyfriend.
You wanted to have that longing feeling so that you would really be in the song, right? - Yeah.
- You glanced at him during - the song.
- I did.
- I did.
- That's everything.
Things you should know.
Best of luck tonight.
Thank you very much.
Thanks.
We are going to move forward with our first semifinalis from Alaska.
- Where are you from? My Adriana latonio and I'm from Anchorage, Alaska.
- How did you get here? - In Alaska people think we have igloos and ride sled dogs but it's a really beautiful state this is Adriana, and we are going to go for walk on the cliff.
I want to show the world even a small town girl can go somewhere in their life.
This is your moment.
- Adriana.
Now the night has started, Randy.
I'm just saying, that was like, your emotions and tvrg completely belied your age, and I felt you were channeling into all the soul that song required.
It's a big song, and sometimes I want to be very careful when you're performing this close, and I'm glad you did, but I don't want to emote too much and have you become aware of peoples reaction and have it unhinge your performance but it was hard not to react, because it was so damned good.
Hello, little lady bug.
How are you.
-.
Good.
How are you? How tall are you? Five foot.
- Are you Filipino? - Yes.
Let me tell you something which is crazy because within two seconds of you walking out this is what I wrote down, little tiny thing but commands the stage from the second she walks out.
There is no fear and being that we are so close to you guys, we get to see you tumbling and shaking and anything.
I did not see one ounce of fear in you, so apart from the vocal being great, I think that you're poised and ready.
You almost feel like you've already been doing this, so congratulations my little lady bug.
Nic ki I.
Nicki you know why she walked out like that? At the end, that last note it was almost there and Keith and I were looking at him and you hit it at the end.
I'm like this girl is a pro.
Man, good looking out.
I loved it.
The.
How do you feel? Are you ok? - Big song.
- I feel great.
It went better than I thought it would.
I went really well.
I was really proud of you, and really happy for you because that's reth ago Franklin.
That's the queen of soul, who sings that song for anybody who doesn't know that, and you know it can be a really rough thing to do that and have it not turn out the way you want it to turn out, because she's amazing, so I really loved how you came through with your version of the song.
- She worked it out.
- You worked it out, and I enjoyed the front half where you took your time, really nice.
Eh plus.
- A-plus.
- Nice work.
So you said it went better than you thought.
What did you think was going to happen when you got out here tonight? Well, I rehearsed and I wasn't so sure about it, but now that I came out here, I'm just glad that I did my best, and it all worked out.
And at 5 feet, you and I can see eye to eye.
We are going to step away for a minute but more action from Vegas coming your way.
Brandy is next.
Don't move.
Welcome back.
For the next few weeks we are come from Las Vegas, but if you've ever dreamed about being in Hollywood now you have a shot, all thanks to at&t.
You can head to American Idol.
Com for more information.
You could win a trip to our show, plus get vip seats.
This will put you ring side for your contestants, and perhaps one of them will be Brandy.
My name is Brandy, I'm from fort Allen, Louisiana.
I'm 26 years old.
I am actually a site nurse.
Work is very intense and interesting.
Never dull.
Kind of like our job.
I've worked since I was 16 to be on this show.
- You had the best vocal.
- I know I can do this, and I can show you the personality that I can bring to American Idol.
Hey Brandy.
I love that you did that song on the one hand because it's an old Travis Tripp song and I've never heard a girl sing it, and your voice is really good and was good in that song, and my only issue with the performance really was what I would say was an emotional connection inconsistency.
Like, it's a pretty heartbreaking song, and there was times twhit seemed like you were quite happy about it, and other times you were back in the song again, and I just sort of wish you had stayed in a place where I really believe that lyric from you from start to finish because you have the voice to do it.
Hello, Brandy.
I wish you would get out of my head and stay out of my head, Keith.
Brandy, he took the words out of my mouth, I literally wrote, why are you smiling when singing my tears, my resistance.
That makes absolutely no sense.
That was a pageant delivery of a song.
And it did not feel real.
So, you're not coming out here to smile at the judges.
You're coming out here to be a realistic, believable artist, and you have someone like Jimmy here who has been signing people for so many years, we don't want you to smile at us if it doesn't people truthful to the song, but you look beautiful.
Thank you.
I think listen I got to echo the guys.
Definitely you didn't have the right connection to that lyric.
You've got a big voice, and that's why you made it this far.
It didn't tell me enough of who you are, what kind of artist you wanted to be, because I mean you can sing, but because you didn't even connect 'emotionally with the lyric, I'm going what is she singing? Where does that go? Who am I looking at, so I think it could put you in a belittle bit of trouble tonight, if I may say that.
It's true.
And ok.
Tonight is one thing, which is obviously what we are dealing w-so I will deal with tonight.
I just see a beautiful person who sings a song, but I have seen you more like emotionally connected, and I wonder, is it that we are in a new stage setting? There's an audience here? Et cetera.
I think you really look like you're presenting yourself really well.
You look like a million bucks.
You really do, and I think when you open up your voice in your mid register with the vibrato and it's just like a big note, I think it sounds like it's a million-dollar moment, and I would do more songs with maybe that in mind.
Think about that register of your voice, and you know, I would love to see you do an album of classics.
That's me.
Someone might disagree with me.
I look at you as someone you could have been around way back in the day as a great doesn't ri singer that had a beautiful voips and was gorgeous and just did her thing, so keep being you and maybe keep some of those - thoughts in mind.
- Hello.
In terms of the connection, did it feel like were you trying a little hard to connect to that one, or did you think you were in that moment? Kind of it was hard to connect to.
When I'm done I'm done, so to kind of beg back for somebody's a little hard.
I was trying to connect emotionally for that.
Saying I don't love you anymore and please take me back kind of thing fighting for a relationship, but I think I did ok, so hopefully it will work.
We will find out soon with the results on the way.
Thank you very much, Brandy.
I think the biggest breaking news is that Keith urban is inside Nicki minaj's head.
I had no idea what was going on.
The we've got a younger contestant cashing in on her shot.
Welcome back to our stage.
Ten laid list fighting it out tonight, but we have to lose half of them at the end of the show and hoping she will survive is shuba.
What's your name? Shubav Idoola.
I like this girl already.
She's cool.
It gives money to school arts department.
One year I won $35,000 for my school.
I want everybody to see me as someone unique, as someone who everybody can look at as an Idol.
Hey, st huba.
Hi.
That was, you guys loved that, right? It's all about America voting.
Here's the thing.
I thought you crammed a lot into that song as far as the kind of performance it was, you know, and on one hand, I could say it was like confusing because there was so many things going on.
On the other hand, I love your voice, and despite it for me, despite that, your voice came powering through, and I think that in the end is going to be the thing that helps you.
Prepare to boo again.
You got to hear what I'm going to say before you start booing.
You want it to be a fun boo? Shuba, it's so much going on, and every time since your first audition, whenever I look at what you do, I almost feel like there's a comical thing there, because there's no doubt that you have a beautiful strong voice, but it's almost feels like a mash up of Democratic.
Christina aguilera and the steps you're can doing.
It was like a taste of the piano and just something that was very confusing.
I'm going to come to your defense and explain a little bit what ketds is saying.
I agree with him on the one hand.
You're 17.
You really got unbelievable potential and talent.
There were way too many runs.
You don't have to overdo the runs.
Every note doesn't have to have a run on it, because runs is something you should feel, but the potential in you is amazing.
To me I would have loved it if you stayed at the piano, but I'm saying, at 17 I'm still impressed with the potential, and I actually like the potential.
I have to agree with Randy, especially because we were talking about this already and he said everything I was going to say.
No, I'm joking.
Not, seriously I would have preferred if you did the song from the piano, because when were you at the piano, there was something, I can't really pinpoint but it was just less forced than when you weren't at the piano, but I fwel like you wanted to please the crowd, and you did, so you know, it's just like you have to balance it out, and 17 years old, I just commend you for being up here anyway.
I'm guessing.
I have Al feeling because it is sudden death that you're coming out wanting to do everything you can and overachieve in the performance.
- Right? - Right.
So some valuable criticism, and if you make it through you can take their notes.
Good look to you good luck to you.
I think the crowd enjoyed that one.
We will see you back here shortly for those results.
Half the girls have to go.
On the other side, we will be right back.
Welcome back to our sudden dith round.
I'm backstage with cree and Brandy.
Talk about the emotion waiting for the show knowing it could go either way.
You have no idea what it feels like.
It is the most overwhelming thing I've ever experienced in my life.
One minute you're up here and then you're down here.
Right now I don't know where I'm at.
I'm very nervous and excited at the same time.
Whoever gets through tonight is goes to go well deserved.
And carry, u cree you're performing a country song but judges have been tough on the country performances so far.
Do you worry about that? I think I'm just going to go out there and lay all my emotion on the stage and see what happens.
- That's coming up soon.
- Next up is camaria.
I'm from Oakland, California.
I've been in the music busy guess for a number of years.
I have sung background for dirty money.
To sing on American Idol is a great opportunity to step into my own spot life.
- Hey.
Camaria, I don't know that that was a great song for you tonight, and the reason I say that is because I mean can you really sing.
You've made it this far.
You can really sing.
You have something very special vocally, but that sang it's finding that emotional connection to what that song was about never happened to me, and I'm not a big fan of theatrical singing.
The I don't know a think about you, baby and I'd like to.
My darling, you look very nicely styled today.
I love your outfit.
Your makeup is beautiful.
Your hair is working.
Yes, ma'am.
Be part of that.
What I never noticed until tonight was the throaty 20 thing you were doing.
Last time I remember you singing in group round I didn't hear that I don't know if that was supposed to be swag on it, but it didn't work, babe but you look amazing.
Yeah, I mean for me from the start of the song, it just never caught on.
You were in a different pitch.
If pitch was all over the place.
To me, for me, it's your worst performance I've seen you make since you've been in the competition.
It was not good tonight.
It was definitely your worst performance.
There's nothing redeemable I can say about it.
I didn't like it at all.
I just didn't like it.
It wasn't good.
I knew Randy was going to comment on the pitch, so I will say, I felt like you were struggling to hear yourself, and maybe that was affecting your ability with the pitch, which happens.
It's reality.
But, I think you're very adorable.
Like I'm kind of obsessed with you, because I think your smile lights up the entire room.
- Thank you.
- So to me, that's like you're marbltable.
A producer could put knew a studio and make a record if you with you.
I don't think it was the right song choice for you, but keeping going and do what you do, and I do love the ensemble, particularly the shoes, but be careful.
And the shoes right there.
We've seen you sing several times here.
Was tonight more challenging for you? Tonight was a challenge, but you know, I did the best that I could within the circumstances, and hopefully it pays off.
That's all you can ask for.
Thank you very much, camaria.
We are going to continue the music.
Cree Harrison.
I live in Nashville, Tennessee and I'm a demo singer.
My mom and dad have shaped me into the singer I am today.
It's really important to pay your can dues.
I've worked really hard.
American Idol is such a cool platform for a sing tore tell their story.
- Thank you.
- Oh, cree.
You are such a natural born singer, and it's so beautiful to watch you sing, too, not just to listen but to watch it, and for country music for me, there's so many styles within the foundation, but certainly blues and gospel play a role.
You embody that so purely and beautifully, and you don't overtry.
You don't have any desperation in the way you sing.
There's an effortless believability.
It's authentic, and God bless you for that.
Cree, I would be very afraid if I were any of these other girls here tonight.
I'd be very afraid.
Let me tell you something about you.
When I watched the show and I saw your story and I found out about your parents and everything like that, I said to Keith I kind of felt there was something inside of you that you always, there's a mystery in you that chant bed explained, and every time you sing a song, you make love to the song.
You make love to the song.
You get up there completely clothed.
Something about you is so sexy when you sing.
I mean I'm in love.
You know what that is, though Nicki and Keith? Here is another natural born singer.
She doesn't have to wear the out fifth she doesn't have to do anything.
She gets up there, opens her mouth.
She's natural with the lyrics.
I look at people who sing a beautiful song which is a great song and a great lyric and it was effortless.
I felt I was at your show and you've been doing this for 25 years.
Well done.
Well done.
What I, if I can add anything to that and what I've been feeling about when I see you is you're lost in the song, and that is a beautiful thing to watch, because it's unaffected.
You're not trying to be anyway.
You're not putting on any type of thing.
It's just incredibly organic, and you sing the song and you sang the hell out of that song, and it was amazing.
Can I loved I It.
- There you go, cree.
- It's true.
It's so seam less for you, even chatting backstage, you seemed so comfortable and it's like second nature to - you.
- This is insane.
This is all I've ever wanted to do and to do this in front of you all and to get that feed back, making my part so good right now.
Thank you.
Thank you for that great performance.
Cree Harrison everybody.
When we come back, Angela Miller takes the stage.
Back in Vegas after this.
We are moving forward now with a girl who brought the judges to their feet.
The last time she took the stage, this is Angela Miller.
I'm Angela Miller, I'm from Beverly, massachussetts.
I remember the first time that I watched American Idol.
It was season to finale.
When I saw it I knew I was going to audition.
You see on TV the thousands of people in the stadium and you're there, and you're like oh, my gosh.
There are so many people.
I think it's definitely a year for a girl to win.
I'm here living my dream.
Awesome.
Angela.
You have a huge talent, vocally, musicianship.
You just have a big, big gift that doesn't require any compensating.
So, if you keep believing in that, you do a lot with a little.
You have a beautiful voice.
I wish I had more time to give you more adjectives.
I have a feeling I'm going to have plenty of time to do that.
Angie, I love you Angie.
- I love you.
- But you know nothing is going to compare to that last performance of your original song.
You blew me away.
- Thank you.
- And honestly, I have to say this.
When I watched that original performance, it was the most beautiful thing that I have experienced since I've been doing Idol, and so rest in that.
Don't overdo it.
You're already a top contender in this competition.
Don't force anything.
Your voice is unmatched.
You're beautiful.
You're striking.
The fact that you wrote that song, you're an artist, period.
Congratulations.
You are definitely one of my favorites in the whole competition.
I think America is witnessing the building of a superstar right there.
I had think that your voice, you can sing anything.
I just love your interpretation of the lyric.
I love that you get inside the song, and you're so passionate, and people wondering like are they singing live and all that kind of stuff.
This girl is the real deal right here, America.
She's going places.
I mean I feel like your potential is just limitless.
I have to, what was the name of the song, your original song that you wrote that you performed at the piano.
You set me free.
I just want to give the world a chance to hear that song because you had my in tears with that song, and you need to keep writing because it was phenomenal.
Angela, lateis and gentlemen.
I know a lot of people were excited to see you tonight, so good job.
Thank you very much.
- Thank you.
- Stay with us, because Isabel she sings for her life.
Idol rolls on from Vegas right after this.
Welcome back to American Idol.
Before we go any further I want to recognize two members of our Idol far, Carrie Underwood and Kelly clarkson, both big winners at the grammies last week, so congratulations, ladies.
They've left an incredible legacy that this year's ladies hope to add to, including Isabel.
I'm Isabel.
I'm 22 years old, and I'm from Johns creek Georgia.
I definitely wasn't a pretty girl.
I never got asked out to prom or went to a school - dance.
- No, please believe.
Well, it was tough, but it made me who I am today.
Without that I wouldn't be me.
I kind of want to be an encouragement to girls that can you overcome pretty much anything.
- Isabel.
- Hi.
All I can say is to every guy that never invited you out to prom, let that performance be the key to the side confident car.
To the side of the car.
She up here looking like a diva tonight.
Isabel, you look very pretty.
You sound very pretty.
And I'm proud of you.
You've overcome obstacles and you're up here shining.
You did a great job.
Be proud.
- Thanks so much.
- Isabel, congratulations on getting everything together.
I love you being an inspiration to a bunch of people.
I think you got a big voice, a huge talent.
To be honest it was old-fashioned for me.
I felt like I did feel like I was at a pageant for a second but that's just me.
No, you can sing, but the arrangement, the song is like oh, my God.
When I come back, Nicki - minaj told me.
- Let's see.
I don't mean to cut in here, but I think what Randy is saying, we were talking about this before, it's just that if you had done that like even just really simple and with like an upright bass and small arrangement it would have been a different thing but I can't sit here and interpret Randy's critique but it's about that more than anything.
To me your vocal could have been over any song.
I love God bless the child, but your vocal is what is what's selling you and your heart is selling you, because I can del there's something in you.
- Thank you Mariah Carey.
- I know leading up to it, was that how you saw it come off? When I saw cree Harrison perform and saw her heart, that's twhaip wanted to do, so I hope that's what I delivered.
We've got one more performance tonight before our judges start making those difficult cuts, and it's coming from Amber holcomb.
All right, you're balk.
Back.
Our judges here Keith, Nicki, Randy, Mariah, they'll be making a big cut in just a little bit.
It's going to get intense.
Right now crunch time for Amber holcomb.
My name is Amber holcomb.
I'm from Houston, Texas.
I'm 18 years old and assistant teacher.
This year, what's different about you? I had a makeover.
- You look nice.
- I'm more confident now I'm really not quiet like that.
- That was really good.
- Thank you so much.
I got to try harder this year.
I got to like bring it.
Wow.
Amber.
Amber.
Why? Why do you make it so hard on everybody else? That is such great like technically, all the breath control and everything and making it look so easy was just so great to watch, and you took the stopping that like could have easily been in Randy's world some old song.
And you just made it timeless, because it's about emotion, and it's timeless, and you knocked it out of the park.
- Thanks.
- Yes, Amber, legs for days.
Pretty little dimple.
I'm glad that you've come back and made an effort to come out of your shell.
That vocal was a-plus-plus-plus.
But I'm wondering if that inner shine is going to shine through the TV, for the people when they start voting.
That's what I'm thinking - about.
- Right.
And I wished it jumped out more, but the vocal is at the top of the class.
The thing is Nicki is I think that that can shine through the TV, but you have to believe.
I mean you have to believe it before anybody at home is going to believe it.
Sometimes I think you doubt yourself a little bit, but let me tell you, you made it this far.
What I loved about it, you sang jorg song, you had control and this is to everybody out there.
You made the most important run, and it stood out like a shining diamond because you weren't oversinging before, so very well done.
Very nice.
I think you know how brilliant that performance was.
You have to know.
Meaning it was that good.
I was like, what is this girl doing? It's incredible, and I just was like, you know, I've been listening to that song my whole life because my mom sang jazz.
I love your interpretation of that song, and I love your voice, and I can't wait for you to get in the studio and make a record, regardless of what happens with this competition.
You know, so congratulations on just your talent.
Amber everybody.
Nothing quite like that.
Good luck to you.
So, we now hand the fate of the ladies over to the judges during the break.
They will discuss who stays on and who heads home.
It's going to get emotional on this stage in Vegas right after this break.
No more second chances.
This is sudden death.
Right back.
Welcome back to American Idol.
It is a tense moment on this stage.
Ten ladies have performed, but only five will survive the cut that's coming.
The judges were unanimous so we won't need to call on Jimmy for a tiebreaker.
Jimmy, see you tomorrow night.
There are five stools reserved for the ladies who make it through to your vote on this stage.
Half of the girls are going home, and that fate will be delivered right here right now.
Judges, the toughest cut of the season.
They've been talking during the commercial break and now are you red by the results? First up to hear the news is Jenny.
- Yeny.
- How are you feeling? - Ok.
- You had it.
I think on some level you had it really hard tonight coming out first.
You don't know what is coming up after you, so I thought you did a great job with the song you had, but if level of talent that came out after you was so high, we had to vote, and unfortunately tonight we have to say good-bye.
All right.
Well, thank you so much for this opportunity.
It's been a blessing.
- So thank you.
- Thank you.
And now results for Brandy.
- Hi, Brandy.
- Hi.
- Well, you have done so well in this competition, and we actually were delighted to have met you, my darling.
You really do shine, and sometimes it just doesn't work for the particular competition, and it didn't work for Idol 2013, so my darling we are going to part ways with you, but God bless you.
- Thank you.
- Keep on being a psychiatric nurse.
We love that about you and wish you the best.
- All right.
Thanks, guys.
And now it's a big moment, Christina Torres.
Hello Tina.
This is a very emotional nerve wracking night for everyone, including us.
It's been tough to get to these decisions, but listen.
Five people have to go, and five people stay.
You've been amazing through this competition.
Remember you last season and you know you came along way.
You came along way this season.
You got this far.
Listen.
I mean, it's a tough thing, but you're going to stay with us.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
All right, up next is cree Harrison.
- Hi, cree.
- Hi.
You know I've never liked you as a singer.
I told you that earlier.
So, when everybody else wanted to put you through, I was like I don't know.
Whatever.
You're going through, baby.
Thank you.
- Congratulations.
- Results now for Isabel.
Isabel, hi.
Hey, so tonight, I thought tonight was a really solid, strong vocal powerhouse performance, and it's one of those strange things.
We've got to all vote.
We've got to all get together and decide where we are, and we were very, very mixed on our voting tonight, and just know that your performance was really strong tonight, but unfortunately we have to say good night to you.
- Sorry.
- And next to take the stage for results, Angela.
Do you think you're going - through? - I really hope so.
You know something Angela? It's amazing, because this show has taught me never to predict anything, and honestly, you know you've been amazing of the no one has to tell you that.
After tonight, the world gets to decide what think think of Angela, and congratulations my darling.
And congratulations.
So, that is how we're looking right now.
You've got teena, cree and Angela taking her stool saved through to America's vote.
After the break, the fate of the remaining ladies is handed down.
More oh meetings, more drama, more Idol next.
You are dialed into American Idol.
So far, teena, cree and Angela have made it through to America's vote and here they are, but four more ladies have yet to hear their faichlt going to ask the judges before we get into their fate, was this difficult to cut after half of them? I felt it was difficult.
I really did, because there were some people who had great voices, but certain things didn't really mesh for everybody.
Five have to go home.
Keith were you concerned you weren't going to have enough spots? You know, the reality is we are sending people home tonight that are insanely talented and people are watching at home going what? We are doing the same thing, but we have to make decisions.
Up next to face the judges is camaria.
Hello, camaria.
So how do you think you did tonight? I know that tonight was not my best performance.
I had a hard time hearing in rehearsal.
I had a hard time hearing on stage.
It wasn't my best, and I know I'm capable of doing better.
We usually think about all the performances.
We think about what happened tonight.
It's just that today is a tough day because five people stay and five go home, so the decisions haven't all been unanimous.
We've kind of had some tense words over a few contestants.
I would say my fellow judges but sar sorry to say, you didn't make it tonight.
All right.
- Good luck.
- Thank you.
Continue.
Don't stop.
Up next, Amber for her results.
Wow.
You have no idea with all the judges trying to come together and form one unanimous decision.
It's like next to imposition, and there's a lot of factors that go into it, and I know that you were nervous, a bit nervous.
Unfortunately you're going to have to be nervous again, because you're going through.
It is not easy watch that go down out on the stage.
I'm here with Adriana and shuba.
We have one slot left.
That means one of these young ladies gets it, and the other one goes home.
What's playing out in your mind right now? Adriana just so happens to be my best friend on the show.
I loved meeting her.
I loved get to go know her.
Beautiful personality, and I've had a lot of fun this season, and I would love to be back on the stage, and I real really did listen to the judges criticism, and I'll see what happens.
Adriana tell bus the emotions on your face.
I feel the same way as shuba.
She's be here throughout this serns, experience, and whatever happens, I know that we will always keep in touch, and everything happens for a reason.
Good luck to both of you lateis.
Thanks so much for what you've done on this show.
We are going to remind ourselves of those performances.
Here we go.
- You know I want to say a couple things.
Firstly, both of you, millions of people now know of both of you, so regardless of how this plays out tonight, we unfortunately have one chair and two of you, so one of you is going to go home, but you both need to know that millions have people have seen you know and know your talent.
You also have to know you both have amazing talent.
You've sailed past thousands of people to get to where you are tonight, and I thought you did excellent performances tonight.
Shuba, I want you to know that you have been fought for tonight.
This is a democracy, so the majority has to rule, but you were fought for, but you have raw, real talent that to me was on display in fine form tonight.
Adriana, you did a stunning performance tonight.
The crowd was ten gaijd hugely, so this is a difficult decision.
But I have to say tonight, shuba we have to say good night to you, baby, and Adriana, we want you to go - through.
- Girls tonight.
It's very tough moment to say good-bye after all the competition.
And there you have it.
Look over there at the stools.
You've got teena, cree, Angela Amber and Adriana who will sing for your votes.
A round of applause in Las Vegas.
They've earned those spots, but who from the guys is going to get that honor? Ten of them sing for survival tomorrow night.
One more time for all of our judges and shuba, thank you very much.
You can go say good-bye for your buddy.
That's it for tonight.
We'll see you tomorrow at 8:00, 7:00 central.
