Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008) s03e07 Episode Script

Scorn of the Star Sapphire!

For an operative with the Global Peace Agency, about to face certain death you seem aawully relaxed, Trevor.
- Call me Steve, buddy boy.
Let's just say I've got a guardian angel, and I do mean angel, watching over me.
[VON GUNTHER SPEAKS IN GERMAN.]
You'll be with the angels when I launch this missile at the Geneva Arms Conference eliminating the leaders of two dozen nations in one fell swoop.
Then, from out of the chaos Baroness Von Gunther and her forces will rise up to take control.
Don't bet on it, you goose-stepping harpy.
Dummkopf.
[MONITOR BEEPING.]
Soon to be a dead dummkopf.
Lady, the red, white and blue's about to turn you black and blue.
Wonder Woman.
Stop her! - Batman.
- Princess.
Are you all right, Steve? I am now that you're here, angel.
Isn't she terrific? [GRUNTS.]
Have to say, being a secret agent is a cinch when you've got a super-powered girlfriend.
I wouldn't know.
- It's over, baroness.
- Ja, Wonder Woman, over for you.
As a woman, you should know that the path of violence is a barren one.
Abandon your misguided ways.
Join the sisterhood of peace.
Bah.
Your Amazonian dogma sickens me.
[GRUNTING.]
Have it your way.
[MONITOR BEEPING.]
[BEEPING RAPIDLY.]
Can you handle the rest of Von Gunther's men while I go after Steve? Done.
No worries, Trevor.
She's never failed you.
Yet.
Whoo-hoo! You really are a wonder woman.
What does she see in that man? GREEN LANTERN: As a Green Lantern I've faced some of the nastiest villains in the galaxy.
Then I met Star Sapphire.
She was different.
Easy on the eyes, and we actually had a lot in common.
She was a humble Earthling who encountered some otherworldly beings the Zamarons.
They chose her to be the host body for their queen.
Can't say I blame them.
They even gave her a ring, but it came with a hitch.
Once that ring slid onto her finger, she was a changed woman.
She became a being of pure evil bent on the conquest of Earth.
I've never had any problems with ladies before but like I said, this one is different.
CAROL: Batmobile's making amazing time.
That Ferris aircraft engine might have something to do with it, Batman.
Sure it's not because its driver is the best in the world? If you're so confident, we should take things to the next level.
Think we can get her up to mach 4? BATMAN: We've never gotten past mach 3.
5.
HAL: Well, then, it's about time we tried, isn't it? - Let's not get too carried away, Hal.
- Come on, Bats.
The reason you hire me to test these for you is because I'm gonna push them to the edge.
BATMAN: And over it.
HAL: Excuse us, Carol.
Guy talk.
Just don't forget our deal.
BATMAN: You test all my new prototypes and I cover Coast City crime.
Trust me, I'm on it.
[ALARM RINGING.]
[SIREN WAILING.]
If it weren't for your tattoos, you could be working in that bank instead of robbing it.
It ain't the robbing I care about, it's the brawling.
Huhn! HAL: Sounds like you're having some fun.
You just worry about the test flight.
TAYLOR: You look scared.
Hal Jordan's not afraid of anything, Ms.
Taylor, so why should I be? Right.
He's the king of cool.
Women want him.
Men want to be him.
But every man's afraid of something, Ms.
Ferris.
My magazine sent me to find out what makes Hal Jordan tick.
So tell me, what's it like being his boss and his girlfriend? Hal, you're pushing her too hard.
Pull back.
No way.
Batman's counting on me.
Are you doing this for Batman or yourself? Hal? [MACHINE BEEPING.]
Hal! [SIRENS WAILING.]
Quite an ending for my article.
HAL: Whoo-hoo! I thought this would be the perfect time to try out that new ultra-chute prototype.
CAROL: Oh, thank goodness.
- You worry too much.
- Because I love you too much.
I know.
It's a good thing you made it in one piece because I've been looking forward to tonight's date for a week.
I'm sorry, Carol.
I gotta go.
Uh Buddy of mine is in a bit of ajam.
Mm.
A buddy? Fighting Batman behind my back, Tattooed Man? I thought I was your arch-nemesis.
[GROANS.]
[SCREECHING.]
So you crashed another of my planes? Not doing this now.
I had to break another date with Carol to save your bat butt.
- That's a shame.
Carol's a class act.
- Sure is.
Some would say out of your league.
Is there a point I'm missing here? Can your little sewing circle quit gossiping and fight? Aah! My ears! I can't think straight! That's the general idea.
Tomorrow, you test the bat-boat.
But if you total this one, I'm sending you a bill.
GREEN LANTERN: Here you go, fellas.
Hope I'm not making yourjob too easy.
Arrogant man.
Soon you'll feel the wrath of the one enemy who can utterly destroy you.
This baby's another prototype Carol designed with Batman.
Guess designing a boat and riding in it are two different things.
- Can it go any faster? - You kidding? [GASPS.]
- You seem to take a lot of risks for Carol.
- I trust her with my life.
If I couldn't, I'd be crazy to ever climb into a Ferris rig.
Batman's not paying for us to go on a party cruise.
Let me show you what this baby can really do.
You have a unique relationship with Green Lantern.
It's Carol who has the connection.
[CAROL GASPS.]
If I were you, I'd be worried these associations might attract the attention of one of their enemies.
I have complete faith that G.
L.
And Batman can protect us from any threat.
CAROL: Our meeting with the Defense Department's in a half an hour, Hal.
And it's classified.
Authorized personnel only.
I think I'm gonna pass on this one, sweetie.
You don't need me there.
Does he do this all the time? Green Lantern! Aww, man.
Can I just once catch a break? [GRUNTING.]
What's the matter? Decided not to blow up the bat-boat? Don't worry, Carol's keeping an eye on it.
Leave her behind enough times and she might not be there when you get back.
She needs to know you're serious.
Come on, hero.
You can do better than that! Okay, okay, I'll talk to Carol after we finish this.
[GROANING.]
TAYLOR: Must be hard sharing him with the world.
This is a private office, Ms.
Taylor.
How did you get past my assistant? I have my ways.
All right, that's it.
My participation in this article is over.
I want you off Ferris property immediately.
Mm.
Hal Jordan may not be afraid of anything, but you certainly seem to be.
Out! We're not done yet, Ms.
Ferris.
[SIGHS.]
[DOOR OPENS.]
I said out.
Who are you? [CREATURE CACKLING.]
[CAROL SCREAMS.]
Carol.
I don't recall asking for help.
Star Sapphire's no pushover.
She was able to get close to Carol somehow.
Maybe she was posing as that reporter.
That's an interesting theory.
Well, I'll say this for her.
She's not exactly trying to hide from us.
Looks like my hunch was right about Taylor.
[GRUNTING.]
Wait, Batman! There's something you don't know.
[MOANS.]
This isn't Star Sapphire.
[MOANS.]
That woman, she's insane.
And she hates you.
She GREEN LANTERN: Don't worry, Ms.
Taylor.
We'll get you to safety.
It was Carol all along.
And you knew.
GREEN LANTERN: Carol was flying a prototype for Ferris Industries when she was intercepted by the Zamarons.
They'd come to Earth in search of a new host for the Star Sapphire entity.
And the one they chose was Carol.
She despises me, Batman.
And wants, more than anything, to destroy me.
The woman I care about is my greatest enemy.
Can you imagine what that's like? Does she know? No.
Star Sapphire's a separate personality.
If Carol discovered the truth, it would shatter her mind.
For Carol's sake, I had to keep this secret until I found a way to help her.
We'll do it together, Hal.
We'Il [SAPPHIRE CACKLING.]
SAPPHIRE: How touching.
Such a shame that the two of you are doomed and the human race will die with you.
Look to the skies, heroes.
The first wave of the Zamaron invasion has begun.
Attack! Give me a challenge.
Fight! Fight! SAPPHIRE: Hah! - Carol, please.
I know you're in there somewhere.
Don't let Sapphire control you.
[MOANS.]
There is no Carol Ferris.
There is only Star Sapphire! [GROANS.]
Hal's right, Carol.
He's not your enemy, Star Sapphire is.
The real battle isn't with us, it's within you.
[GRUNTS.]
[GRUNTING.]
[CACKLING.]
[AS CAROL.]
You're right.
I've got to [AS SAPPHIRE.]
Go back down in the dark where you belong, human.
[AS CAROL.]
No! I can't let you.
[AS SAPPHIRE.]
Of course, you can.
[GROANING.]
I won't give up on you, Carol, because I know you're a good person because we belong together and because I love you.
No! Don't listen to him! It's a lie! It's a [AS CAROL.]
Shut up! Huh? [ALL GASP.]
[GROANS.]
[GROANS.]
[CAROL GROANS.]
I love you.
I know.
- And she doesn't remember? - Not a thing.
But it could happen again.
Well, looks like I've got an even better story than the one I started with: Carol Ferris is Star Sapphire.
No! You can't reveal that.
It'll ruin her.
Oh, I will and I'm sorry.
What was I saying? You were saying that you finally found an answer to, "What is Hal Jordan afraid of?" Yes, of course.
- What did I say it was? - You didn't.
[GRUNTS.]
Good old bat-amnesia spray, thanks.
It's just too bad we won't find out the answer to her question.
It's simple, Bats.
There's only one thing in the universe Hal Jordan's afraid of and that's losing Carol.
