I got you, don't worry.
You okay? Sit down.
-Oh! -What were you doing on that wall? -I was just relaxing.
I was trying to relax.
I got a big audition this afternoon.
- Oh, an actress? -A waitress, actually.
But hopefully not after today's audition.
-Well, come on.
Let's get you out of these wet clothes.
- Oh my god! - What's wrong? -My money, oh! It must have fallen out in the water.
-I'm sorry.
Come on.
-Mitch.
-Hey! -I'd like you to meet Scott Daniels.
Scott, this is Mitch Buchannon.
-Good to meet you, Mitch.
-How you doing? -Scott's a coastguard rescue swimmer.
We met while I was on the exchange program while you were out of town.
-Great.
-I got transferred down here from San Francisco last month.
-Well, you like it down here? -Yeah, I love la.
-Scott trained with the Navy seals.
-Really? -Well, it was just for a couple of weeks.
We get called on by other services to perform search and rescue operations.
-Well, I think you guys have done enough bonding.
We mustn't distract the lifeguard.
See you, Mitch.
-Nice to meet you.
- Hello? - Hey! -Here we go.
-I filled out everything like you said, name and address.
I don't have a phone yet.
Oh, these are nice and warm! Thank you, um-- -Matt, Matt Brody.
You're welcome.
Okay, Rachel Henderson.
Stay off the sea walls, and good luck on your audition.
-Thanks, but I can't go now.
-Why not? -Well, I don't have my head shots.
You know, after you read for a part you gotta leave your head shot and resume.
Well, I don't-- I had these great pictures taken, but now I don't have the money to pay for them.
Oh, well, I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway.
-How much do you need? -Oh, no.
I couldn't ask.
-You're not asking; I'm offering.
-Hey.
Thanks, I can't believe you're doing this for me.
-Hey, who knows, you could probably be the next Julia Roberts.
-Well, look, I'm waitressing tonight, so I'll pay you back first thing in the morning.
What time do you get here? - 9:00.
- 9:00.
I'll see you then.
Thank you, Matt.
-Sorry, I couldn't see him.
-It's okay.
It's not your fault.
You all right? -Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, thanks.
That was very close though, huh.
-Yeah.
Well the beach is not the safest place to sleep, you know.
-I apologize.
It's just that I was very tired and-- forgive me.
I'm sorry to have bothered-- -hang on a second.
You look like you could use a cup of coffee.
-Oh, no, I couldn't impose.
-Come on, I'm buying.
Come on.
Another cup of coffee, mr krebs? -Oh yeah, that would be great.
Thanks.
And please call me Henry.
-So you say your daughter ran away two months ago? -Yes.
We live in Ohio, my wife and I and Nancy.
Nancy is our daughter.
Maybe I was too strict.
I don't know, but anyway, one morning she just left for Los Angeles and didn't say where.
I know that Nancy loves the beach, so I figured that this would be the best place to start looking.
Do you have any children? -Yeah, yeah, I have a son, Hobie.
-Oh, yeah, well, I have three sons.
And five daughters.
Nancy is the youngest.
I didn't come here to take her home.
She's a big girl.
She can make her own decisions.
I just came to say goodbye.
-Goodbye? -The doctors say I have only a few months to go.
Now, that doesn't mean that I'm giving up hope by any means, it's just that I want to get things straightened out before the final gun goes off.
-Hey, Summer.
Do me a favor, will you? Have this copied and distributed to all the lifeguards.
-Sure, who is she? -Runaway.
Her father doesn't have much time left and he wants to try to find her.
-Wait, wait-- Mitch, I've seen this girl.
Matt, here look, take a look at that.
-That's Rachel.
-No, actually, her name is Nancy, Nancy krebs.
-Uh-uh, I pulled her out of the water yesterday.
Her name is Rachel Henderson.
She's an aspiring actress.
-Oh, well, maybe that's her stage name.
-Did you get an address? -Yeah, should be in the rescue card.
But she's gonna be here any minute.
-Why, did you make a date? -I loaned her $100.
-$100? $100? -Yeah, she needed money for her head shots for her audition.
-So you give her $100 just like that? -Summer, stop-- -she's coming this morning to pay me back.
-Great, Matt, when she gets-- -how can you trust a total stranger? -I grew up in Hollywood.
I think I know when I see talent.
-Oh, really? Well I hope she remembers you when she's a big star.
- She will.
- Oh, really? So where is she? -Guys, um-- - she's coming.
- Sure.
-Well, when she gets here will you let me know so I can call her dad? Uh-oh! - Every single day We're running over the ocean and flyin' to the stars there's never been such devotion to taking love this far you make my dreams come true in the perfect way just like a fantasy every single day you make my dreams come true in the perfect way just like in paradise every single day We're chasin' after the sunshine and walkin' on the clouds we're livin' more than a lifetime and we are livin' now I know this love we have is forever come the sun and come the rain you will always be my shelter oh, every single day you make my dreams come true in the perfect way just like a fantasy every single day -Okay, great, thanks.
So, was she home? -Nope.
-What? -She wasn't home.
There wasn't even a home there.
-What do you mean? -There was no seven four seven oceanfront walk.
-Oh, so you mean Rachel gave you a fake address? Or is it Nancy? Well, you said she was a talented actress.
I guess you were right.
-You know what your problem is? You don't trust people.
-And you problem is you do.
-As it turns out we think that one of our lifeguards may have rescued your daughter yesterday.
-Well, what happened? Is she all right? Where is she now? -Here's the guard that pulled her out of the water.
Matt, this is Henry, Nancy krebs' father.
-Oh, I want to thank you for saving my daughter's life.
You don't know how grateful I am.
-Well, I'm not actually sure it was your daughter, sir.
-The name she put on her rescue card was Rachel Henderson.
-Yeah, I loaned her $100 and she said she'd come back the next morning, but she never showed.
And the address she gave me doesn't exist.
So it's probably not your daughter.
I'm sorry.
-No, no that sounds like Nancy.
She has a way of getting what she wants.
-Well, we distributed her photograph.
As soon as one of my guards spots her we'll let you know.
-Thank you for your help.
I'm going to send a letter to your chief and tell him just how helpful you've both been.
God bless the both of you.
Oh, and young man, when I find my daughter, you'll get the $100 back.
I promise.
-Thank you.
That's today.
-Excuse me, the yacht, a star of Hong Kong.
Do you know what happened to it? It was supposed to be in at, like, 3:30.
-Yeah, no, she ran into some bad weather.
Afraid she's gonna be delayed.
-Delayed? How long? -Should be in about this time tomorrow, I'd say.
-Hey! -Okay, let me go.
-Why'd you run away? -Let me go! You looked so angry.
It scared me.
Look, come on, I know-- I'm sorry about the money.
My audition took longer than expected.
And when I got to the restaurant my boss fired me.
I was too embarrassed to show up empty-handed.
You probably think I ran out on you, don't you.
-Yeah, well, the thought crossed my mind.
But that's not why I chased after you.
-It's not? -Your father's looking for you.
-My father.
You didn't tell him you saw me, did you? -Yes.
He needs to talk to you.
Your father is dying, Rachel.
Or is it Nancy? -My father's not dying.
It's a trick so you'll feel sorry for him and help him find me.
-You expect me to believe that, right? -Right.
-Give me a break.
-It's true.
Look, my name is Nancy, okay.
I lied 'cause my father's a maniac and if he finds me he'll beat me again.
-Come on, I met your father.
He looks like the most gentle man I've ever seen.
-You can't judge someone by how they look.
He's an animal.
Please, Matt, don't let him find me.
Please don't tell him about me.
-Tell him what? The fake address you gave me? -You don't understand.
He hits me.
That's why I ran away.
-Hey, I can't force you to deal with your father.
But if you change your mind, you can reach him through the Baywatch headquarters.
-I'll have your money tomorrow.
When do you work? -I'm off tomorrow.
-Well, when can I find you? -I live on a boat not far from here, slip 88.
-88.
I'll be there, I promise.
-I found this in the dryer.
-Thanks.
-I'll see you later.
Ready, break! Go, go! -Yes! -All right! -I got it.
Hey, Stephanie, come on in.
-Hi, Hobie, is your dad in? -Yeah, he's upstairs.
Dad! So, you want some cream soda? - Sure.
Oh my gosh, where did you get all this? -Remember that boogie board competition I won? -Yeah.
-First prize was a year's supply of a&w cream soda.
The just delivered it.
- Hey, Steph.
- Hi.
I'm sorry to bother you, but I needed to talk.
-Sure.
Hobester.
-Have a nice chat.
-Buy you a cup of coffee? -Okay.
-So? -It's nothing earth-shattering.
I just wanted to know what you thought about Scott.
-I think he's a great guy.
-He is, he's really terrific.
-So then what's the problem? -Well, the problem is that he's in the military.
After what my mother went through, I mean, she never really recovered when my father died in the war.
I swore that I would never get involved with a man in the military.
-Stephanie, we're not at war.
-I know, but still, it's not a stable life.
You move around all the time.
There's no sense of security, and I don't want to raise my kids in that kind of environment.
-Wait a minute, you two are already talking marriage? -No.
I mean, not really.
I just find myself holding back with him.
-Why? -Maybe because deep down inside there's this thought that maybe you and I might get back together again.
-Stephanie.
-I'm not saying I really feel that way.
I just sometime think it.
-We wouldn't wanna ruin a great friendship, now, would we.
-No, you're right.
I just wanted to make sure you felt that way before I started thinking seriously about Scott.
Well, thanks for putting up with my insanity.
-Come here, come here.
It's okay, I'm used to it.
Hey Steph? Good night.
-Rachel.
I mean Nancy.
-Matt, I need your help.
I have no one else to turn to.
-What's wrong? -It's my father.
I know he seems harmless, but if I told you half the things he's done you'd want to rip his heart out.
-Well, if he's that bad, why don't you just go to the police? -'Cause it wouldn't do any good.
My father's a pathological liar.
He'd just deny everything that I said.
-Well, what can I do? -I have to go back to the yacht club.
Could you come with me? It's your day off, isn't it? -What's at the yacht club? -I have a package that's arriving on a yacht that docks there.
That's what the bill of transport was for.
I tried to pick it up yesterday but it was delayed until today.
-What's in the package? -Well, I don't know, it was a gift from my aunt Charlotte.
She's constantly traveling and she always sends me these exotic gifts.
I can't wait to see what it is.
Will you please come? I promise it'll be the last favor I ever ask of you.
I cross my heart.
-I'll go on one condition.
That after we go and get the package, you go with me to see your father and deal with it.
-Okay.
But only if you're there.
-I'll be there.
-Okay, and be sure you take the entire medical kit, okay.
All right.
- Mitch.
- Yo.
-I saw that girl Rachel or Nancy or whatever her name is.
-Where? -In the Marina on Matt's boat.
I don't know what is going on there but I think you better talk to him.
-His boat's still in slip 88, isn't it? -Yeah.
-Okay, I'll see what I can find out.
I'll be right there.
-Okay.
-Excuse the mess.
I just moved in.
-God, I'm so excited! Porcelain dolls.
-My aunt knows how much I love dolls.
-Yeah, there must be 20 of them in there.
-I want you to have one.
-Oh, great.
-They're worth more than $100.
-Sure.
-You expecting someone? -No.
Who's there? -Sam.
-Sam? -Hello, Linda.
-Linda? What's going on? -Shut up.
You don't know what I've gone through trying to find you.
But it looks like it's been time well spent.
Just shut up and listen to me.
I'll be there in exactly one hour.
Don't keep me waiting.
All right, which doll are they in? -I don't know what you're talking about.
-The diamonds! -I have no idea what he's talking about.
-You know, you're looking at the greatest con artist in the world, a child prodigy.
-I told you he was crazy.
-But I'm gonna let you in on something.
She's not my daughter.
She was my partner.
-Liar! -Until she got greedy and ripped me off in Hong Kong.
-Matt, do something.
-What? -Now, give me the doll with the diamonds in it or I'm gonna shoot your friend.
-Go ahead.
-Cold as ice.
-You think I care what happens to him? -This puts you in an awkward position.
'Cause I gotta catch a boat.
-Come on, why don't you give him what he wants.
-One Two -Wait, just don't do anything stupid, okay.
I'll give you the doll.
-Oh, you surprised me.
You do have a heart.
Come on, come on.
You are so clever.
That's what I love about you.
-Did you see where that boat went? -Oh, you just missed them, they pulled out about 15 minutes ago.
-Okay, thanks.
-Here! Well, here's where we part company.
I'm glad no one got hurt.
Goodbye, Linda.
It's too bad for you things had to end this way.
You truly are one of the great grifters of all time.
-Newmie, over there.
Henry, what's going on? -Oh, Matt and Rachel, they're down below.
Something terrible happened.
You better get down there, see if you can help them.
-What happened? -I don't know what happened.
Find out for yourself.
-Okay.
-My diamonds! -Hey, turn around, right now.
-Matt, untie me.
-Untie who.
- Matt.
Huh? Nancy? Or is it Rachel? Or maybe is it Linda? -Look, my name's Linda, okay? He got me into this when I was young.
I didn't know what I was doing.
Come on, Matt, untie me, please.
-You all right? -Yeah.
Did you catch him? -Yeah.
Yeah, he almost got away with it.
But when he called her Rachel instead of Nancy I knew something was off.
-It is.
Mitch, meet Linda.
She's his partner.
-Hey.
-Hi.
-So what's the news? What's happening with Scott? -Did you and Gayle live together before you got married? -Well, I guess that answers my question.
-No, no.
Gayle didn't believe in it.
-I don't think I do either.
I guess I'm just too much of a traditionalist.
-You know, Stephanie, why don't you just do yourself a favor, huh? Lighten up, don't be so analytical.
I mean, come on, just go with the flow, you know? Go with the flow.
-I guess you're right.
I've got to stop being so hard on myself.
I should just let it happen, and enjoy falling in love.
-Absolutely.
That would definitely be my recommendation.
-Scott! What are you doing here? -I came to say goodbye.
I'm being shipped out.
-Shipped out? Where? -Antarctica.
To an icebreaker.
-Antarctica.
-I can't believe this.
The last guy she liked blew out his knee, and you're being shipped out to the south pole.
The Stephanie Holden jinx strikes again.
-I promise I'll write you every day.
-Oh god.
-What else is there to do in Antarctica? -You conmen! -Mitch, I'm gonna get you for this! Scott, I can't believe this! -Come on, Matt, let's dive for them.
-Summer, they're at the bottom of the ocean.
-I know, but they're diamonds, Matt.
-What is it with you? They're probably stolen.
-I know but I just, I just want one.
-One? Why? -To put in a ring.
-Is this a con? -Do I look like a conwoman to you?
