Mama, can me
and Aunt Kathi do crafts upstairs?

I'll put her to bed too.
Not too late, now.

And once you've cut one out, you
gotta put it here with the glue stick.

[sighs] Can you take this, please?
Put it on for me.
- Yep. Sure.
- Okay.
Hold on.
[sighs deeply]
[peppy pop music continues]
What do you think that is?
The sun. It's obvious.
[soft, tense music rises]
[scornfully] What
color is the sun, Juno?
I picked pink instead, you know?
And I can pick anything.
Mrs. Brucker told me I can do it.
But Mrs. Brucker's not with us.
Or is she hiding somewhere?
You better do it right.
[Juno gasps]
Where are you going?
[gasps] Mama!
[Kathi] Oh, I'm sorry, Juno.
- I'm so sorry.
- [Juno] I want Mama!
- Juno!
- [David] What did you do?
- [Kathi] I didn't mean to.
- [Sam] What happened?
[David] Stay away from her.
- [Sam gasps] Honey!
- It was just an accident. Right, Juno?
- It's all right. Come here.
- What?
Everything's fine.
- But what happened?
- I've got it.
Uh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.
[Fynn sighs]
Kathi would never hurt her intentionally.
It looked worse than it was.
Are you listening to yourself?
Your sister is sick.
She belongs in a psych ward.
[scoffs] Wow. Seriously, David?
This isn't one of your crime books where
the mentally ill are all murderers.
She stabbed our daughter
with a pair of scissors!
Shh!
Why'd you leave them together, anyway?
You practically lock yourself
into the office the entire day.
Now you're blaming me?
Ever since your sister came to live here,
she's poisoned the whole atmosphere.
David, I just want to help her.
That's what I want too.
[sighs] That's all I want too.
But first, I need to protect my family.
That's Juno, Fynn, and you.
Kathleen can't stay here.
I cannot just abandon my sister.
She needs me.
[David] She needs
professional help, Sam.
She can only get proper help
in a hospital.
[Sam] She'll think
we want to get rid of her.
[David] Fact is, we
have to do something.
If she's serious about wanting help
and actually loves us,
she'll go to the hospital willingly.
[somber music rising]

[concerned chatter]
[woman 1] I don't want my daughter
to go to school with a spree killer.
[David] All right. Okay. "Spree killer"?
Don't you think that's a bit much?
I mean, Juno just wanted
to impress the kids
and probably just misunderstood
the assignment.
[kids scream]
[indistinct, swirling chatter]
[Schwerdt] Where did you get the gun?
[Juno] I… I just found it at home.
Under… under Mama's bed.
[indistinct, frantic chatter continues]
[woman 2] Juno needs to be expelled.
[David] With all due respect,
Mrs. Naales, that's not your decision.
[man] Mrs. Prill, I do have to say,
you basically have an armory
under your bed. Um…
Most pieces are registered
to a Horst Schmitt, the previous owner.
But you must have checked
the rooms when you moved in.
[woman 3] My bookshop won't sponsor
any books for this school going forward
if the gun girl stays.
I feel like you're
not taking this thing seriously!
How dare you talk like that!
[awkward silence falls]
Our daughter found a loaded gun.
Anybody with half a brain knows
what could have happened,
so how dare you say
we're not taking this seriously?
- You mean to tell us
- It's my turn to talk, Kerstin.
[sighs] I understand you don't know
our family well yet.
But as you know,
we only moved here a month or so ago.
After our family had to witness something
that happened right in our home.
[sighs]
In April of this year,
my sister took her life at home
And it was Juno who found her.
I'm sure you can imagine
what that does to a girl her age.
Despite that, since we came,
and she's gotten to be
a part of this class,
I can see Juno's eyes light up again.
We're sorry for what
happened. Really. We…
My husband and I, we'll…
be taking full responsibility. [sighs]
But I'm begging you.
Punishing our little girl
won't solve the problem.
Don't expel Juno from this school.
[sighs]
[David] You were good.
Without your speech,
they would've expelled
She did this.
Cassandra is who gave her the gun.
- Honey…
- I know it.
Juno wouldn't keep it from us
if that were the case.
Don't you agree?
Should I read it to you, Princess?
I'm not a baby. I can read it myself.
Juno, are you angry at me?
Why'd you tell me
to bring the gun to school?
Everything is worse because of you.
Oh, that's not fair, Juno.
Everything's worse because of you.
I told you to take it. Not to fire it.
You said it isn't dangerous.
[scoffs] Yes, and that's the truth.
As long as no one pulls the trigger.
I really thought you were more mature.
It looks like
you're still just a little baby.
Don't call me that.
Then prove you're not.
Decisions have consequences.
So deal with the consequences
and don't blame me for what you did.
That's not how you treat friends.
And I am still your friend, am I not?
[Cassandra] And you're sure
that I can't help you?
- Not today.
- You will put me out of a job, David.
[laughs gingerly]
Why didn't you let us know when you saw
Juno was looking
for something under our bed?
I thought she was just playing.
And you couldn't see that she was
getting a gun from under the bed?
I could see she was under the bed,
but sadly, I couldn't really see
what she was up to.
I see.
[knocking on door]
Hello, my love.
I'd like to talk privately
with my daughter.
No problem.
[Sam sighs]
Do you feel like going
for a little walk outside?
Do I need to change schools?
[exhales deeply]
No, you're going to stay.

I only wanted to,
I don't know, do something special.
To make sure the part was mine.
I know, my sweet.
