Cleaners (2013) s02e04 Episode Script

The Not so Safe House

1 WOMAN: Previously on Cleaners El Mariposa runs one of the most successful cartels in the Caribbean.
This is the location of one of the cartel's local distribution points.
Hi.
We want you to infiltrate.
[GUNSHOTS.]
Get any intel that gets you further up the chain.
Who do you take the money to? [GRUNTS.]
Arturo Felix.
CLARENCE: See that map with all the dots spread across it? That's a compiled list of Mother's known safe houses.
Time to start kicking down some doors, compadre.
Mother, you got a job for me? MOTHER: Here are your targets.
They're on the island.
We gotta let the heat die down and let Carlos do his job.
- I know some place safe.
- BROOKS: Mother? Hello, Father.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
BROOKS: Uh, this is Sister Maria.
She pretty much comes standard with the building.
Sister Maria, this is Eileen.
She will be staying here for a short while.
She loves her novelas.
So much so, she's convinced Jesus himself is on the writing staff.
She's deaf, I see.
Excuse me? She's obviously deaf.
No, she's just a little hard of hearing.
Anyway, I will let you two get further acquainted.
Thank you very much.
Motherfu [GUNFIRE.]
MOTHER: I never expected you to still be here.
BROOKS: Oh, I honestly never expected to stay this long.
Seeing you makes me realize how long it's been.
Twenty-one years.
God.
We were just kids in a world we had no place being in.
I don't know.
Black market dealings, swindling, corruption, unsanctioned assassinations and blackmail is a world I feel pretty much at home in.
Oh, come on.
Tell me you don't miss it.
The excitement, the thrill of the game.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't.
but I've been wearing these robes so long they seem to fit me better than any gun holster ever did.
Wow.
You really went deep into this cover.
So deep I came out the other side.
That's heavy.
Look I know that's all it was meant to be, a cover while I was sent on kill strikes throughout the region, but once that work dried up, I just couldn't leave.
I fell in love with this place, the people, with a life.
With God? Yeah.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Pretty sure the big guy doesn't want someone with my dark past in his flock, but I did find something here I never had before.
What? Boredom? Faith.
Maybe not spiritually or in a religious sense, but I found a faith in humanity.
I mean, look around.
Look at these people.
They don't have much.
They never have, they never will.
But every day they wake up, they work hard.
They play hard, they laugh hard.
Simple things, Mother.
They weren't designed to be socomplicated.
Does that mean I can't buy you a drink? Come on.
Who's mi papi? Who's mi papi? All right.
Well, I guess wine isn't out of the question.
Arturo Felix? Ay.
Maybe asking every local we come by if they know Arturo Felix is not making the best use of what little time we have left.
Hey, do you have a better idea? Because I don't see too many internet cafes, and I'm not going back to the loony tunes that raised you.
Hey, hey, hey! Arturo Felix? Whoa.
Hey, my eyes are up here, amigo.
Arturo Felix.
Si, si.
Arturo Felix.
I know.
[MUSIC.]
[ROOSTER CROWS.]
Care for a little drinky? Is that altar wine? What, is that bad? You can't drink wine that's been consecrated by a priest.
Well, then it's lucky for us you're not really a priest, hm? [CHUCKLES.]
So here's to twenty-one years ago.
Before you went and got all religious on me.
[GLASSES CLINK.]
Cheers.
Hm.
Mm.
Mm [SIGHS.]
Why don't you walk away from it all? Heh.
From the life.
Like you did? Oh, for me, it's more complicated than finding faith and slipping away.
You were a hired gun.
Me? I'm a fixer.
It's not so easy.
As someone once said to me, "If you want to leave this game, the only shadow that should follow you out should be your own.
" I got lots of little shadows nipping at my heels.
Shadows fade.
You just have to be patient and let them go.
Let those girls go.
They tried to kill me.
And you did them.
Revenge clings to the human psyche the same way that a taste for fast food does.
As gratifying as the initial feeling is, it never brings relief.
So, what are you saying? I should just stay here? I'll protect you.
We both will.
[MUSIC.]
JR: Come on, Barnes, have one.
Ooh-whee! No, thank you.
Some of us are working.
Ugh.
I gotta call Phillip.
Hey, hey, pinot grigio.
Really? Why don't you just give it to me in a pouch? This place is bullshit.
I do not agree.
Dos mas! Ha-ha-ha! You've reached the voicemail of Agent Clarence Phillips.
Leave a message.
[BEEP.]
I gotta tell you, Clarence.
I think it's about time you updated the old database.
Because we've been at this for a solid day.
And all we've turned over are family houses, whore houses, and shit houses.
[BALLOON DEFLATES.]
Aw No goddamn safe houses.
Now, we have four places left.
If mother is not at one of these final places, I'm done.
It's over.
Oh, and by the way, I figured out what CIA stands for.
It stands for "Crappy Intel, Asshole.
" [PHONE BEEPS OFF.]
[MUSIC.]
BROOKS: I had to repair it, you know.
What? The confessional.
After that time.
[MOTHER GIGGLES.]
I mean, we totally wrecked it.
You totally wrecked me.
[MUSIC.]
Starting to feel like there's nothing much safe about this house anymore.
I'm starting to feel the same way.
I won't let anything happen to you.
[DOOR CRASHES OPEN.]
Shit, shit, shit, shit.
We've got a problem.
[PANTING.]
Just stay put in here and keep calm.
I'll deal with this.
Are you sure it was him? Yes.
I don't know, maybe.
He had this hat though Oh, my God.
Five were found dead in what is believed to have been a distribution house of the El Mariposa cartel.
I swear it was him.
Shh! One was apparently stabbed with a knife, hidden inside a bag of dog feces.
CSI said they had never seen anything like this before.
They think this was a professional hit from a rival cartel.
Huh.
Well, what are you so chipper about? This is no time to be chipper.
That's the girls.
That job, they did that.
How do you know? Knife in the shit bag? I taught them that.
[MUSIC.]
[GUN CLICKS.]
[PHONE VIBRATES.]
MOTHER: Carlos.
Mother.
I got a lead for you.
[SIGHS.]
[MUSIC.]
BROOKS: Can I help you, my son? Oh, Jesus.
Shit.
Uh, whoa.
Sorry, Father.
Uh, pardon my French.
I'm sure the man upstairs has more important things on his mind than a little blue language.
I'm sure he does.
So, uh, services are done, and I was about to close the doors.
Of course.
Well, listen, I don't want to be a pain in the You know what.
Ha-ha.
But, you see, I was in the area, and I saw this magnificent building.
You see, I'm writing a book on Spanish Colonial churches.
And, uh, I was just wondering, could you perhaps show me around a little? Absolutely.
Who am I to deny you a quick tour when your intentions are so noble? Ha-ha.
[SPEAKING IN SPANISH.]
Sister, please be quiet.
[GRUNTS.]
Be quiet.
[SPEAKING IN SPANISH.]
Listen, it always ends up the same.
He leaves her for the best of the puta.
Now, silencio, por favor.
[MOCKING.]
Silencio.
And we culminate with God's very own canvas to eternity.
BARNES: Remarkable.
So with the exception of a few odd repairs here and there, all of this is in original condition.
Please, feel free to take photos for your book.
Oh, I wish I had brought my camera with me.
I just had no idea I'd stumble upon such a treasure.
Well What's in there? Uh Oh.
Nothing that would interest those editors of yours.
I can assure you.
My sleeping quarters, candle storage, et cetera.
Oh, so you live here alone? No, I have three roommates.
Oh, really? The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
[LAUGHS.]
Oh! I'll let you get back to your Godly duties.
Thank you so much for your time.
And don't forget to come back and take some photos.
I so do hope we end up in your final product.
[WOMAN SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Which roommate is that? That [MUSIC.]
[MAN SPEAKING SPANISH ON TV.]
It's a goddamn safe house.
How'd he find us? What does he want? - Just shut up and start running.

You're driving me crazy.
[MUSIC.]

Turn around.
[GASPS.]
Frank! What a surprise.
How nice to see you.
Eileen, what are you doing here? Well You know what? I don't even care.
Get on your knees.
Both of you.
But this is Gucci.
Get on your knees! Really? Oh.
Jesus.
Give me your hands.
Give me your hands! Ooh! You're so like, "Grr! Give me your hands.
" We're old friends, aren't we, Frank? No, no.
I don't Frank is that Ow! Ow! Was that? Aah! Shots! [GUNSHOTS.]
