of gaming every couple
of years to stay active.
Apparently, Flynn was checking that box
with a bunch of investors, he was just
hyping his next project.
So, lots of people with deep pockets?

a bomb is supposed to make a big mess
and bigger statement.
So, what is this one telling us?

gets in there and clears it.
We saw some protestors on the way in.

they were trouble all night.
Apparently, this casino
resort is being built on
a desert tortoise habitat.
What? Someone really kill a bunch
of people over reptiles?

I'm gonna go see if it's safe enough

The way people were
packed in that tent, could have been
a lot more victims. We were lucky.
Well, I've seen what it looks
like when folks get lucky

powder at your scene?

propane tanks are common
at a construction site.
They use it to fuel
forklifts and welding torches.
We think some of the tanks
might have been caught
in the second IED's blast,
which would explain why
we saw three explosions.
So, what kind of residue
did the second IED leave?
None. Maybe the propane
burned off the smokeless
powder over there.
Maybe, might have, could have.
Those words die in a GC/MS.
Tell you what, head back to the lab
test all the shrapnel, find
out what kind of bomb it was.
We've got it handled here.
You know, most people
assume elements of the bomb
vaporize in the blast,
but that's actually highly unlikely.

Explosions only seem unpredictable
until we apply redux chemistry.

If the IED was hidden underneath,

the brunt of the impact.

every piece of shrapnel
until I found this.
It's the only projectile at
the second site that had a trace
of smokeless powder.

That piece of metal was at
the center of the explosion.

This is a piece of housing from
the IED set off at the party.

I-I think a piece of
shrapnel from the IED casing
struck the propane
tank, causing it to leak.
Because propane is heavier than air,
the vapor pools were just waiting there
for something as
insignificant as an ember from
the first blast site
to ignite the blaze.
So, the second blast was an
accident caused by shrapnel.
Why haven't we found any
projectiles from that first IED?
I mean, not a bolt,
not a-not a ball bearing.
I mean, it's almost like-like
the bomber was, like, try
Like he was trying to
minimize the body count.
- Only three dead.
- Why use a detonator
with a smaller range unless
you needed to see the blast?
If there were not multiple bombs,
I don't think this was intended to be
a mass casualty event at all.
You think the bomber had
a specific target in mind?
And they waited until
that target was in just
the right position.

And they looked the
victims right in the eye
when they pushed the button.

pulmonary trauma from shrapnel
and blast-induced barotrauma.

the organs to perforate,

and facing the bomb when it detonated.
