Dawn of the Croods (2015) s01e09 Episode Script

Garden of Eaten

Mealtime in the Croodaceous period had always been the same.
Scary.
But it got easier when people started living together.
Kind of.
With new people came new ideas about what we should eat and how.
And that served up the scariest side dish of all change.
And that's why you never eat green meat.
The end.
Ah, controversial stance, Eep.
Now, everyone, take out your homework.
One mosquitoad.
Uh, teacher, a liyote ate my homework.
And my arm.
Incomplete.
Again.
Let's begin.
First, we pet the mosquitoad.
We coo to it.
Coo! Coo! It learns to care for us.
And then we gut it! Oh, and Bulk, you're excused.
Ooh! Bulk doesn't get to kill the prey! - He's in trouble! - No, no, Bulk doesn't eat animals.
He's different that way.
Huh? Hm.
- Ouch! - So you only drink animals? No animals, at all.
I'm a veg-a-eatian because I'm different from the rest of you.
Meaning I'm better than the rest of you.
Whoa, I don't understand why you don't eat animals.
- They eat us all the time! - That hurts! Teacher's getting eaten right now.
Ooh! Ow! New assignment, class.
Save your teacher's life.
That hurts! Ooh! Pfft.
You don't get it.
You only eat meat because people tell you to.
You're a follower.
- I'm not a follower! - Oh, yeah? Then why are you following me right now? Boom.
1x09 - "Garden of Eaten" Eep! Dad, brought home a surprise! I hope it's a gir-elephant that's been made mini so you can fit it in your hand! - Thunk, I told you it's not that.
- Okay, sure, Dad.
No, it's my famous meatball! Meatball! It's my secret recipe.
The secret is I mash all the meat into a ball shape.
What's the matter, Eep? You love when your father makes the meat round.
Is it not round enough? No, it's just Have you guys ever thought about why we eat meat? Honey, you're talking hungry talk.
Eat your meat.
- You know, Bulk is a veg-a-eatian.
- He eats people? - No, Thunk, he only eats plants.
- You can eat plants? Of course it's Snoot's kid.
That family can't even eat normal.
Wait, you guys know about veg-a-eatians? Bulk didn't invent it? Pfft, the first veg-a-eatian lived years ago and tasted delicious.
Uh, or so I hear.
Yes, and just because you can eat plants doesn't mean you should.
I mean, I can eat rocks, but I shouldn't because You'll poop pebbles.
Been there.
No, because it's weird.
Kids today don't understand our traditions.
Like eating meat, bathing in dirt, or singing a song to the moon every night so it doesn't fall on our heads and crush us.
So your only reason for eating meat is everyone else eats meat? - Exactly! See? You get it.
- Listen, I'm not a follower.
I wanna try just eating vegetables.
Vegetables vegetables vegetables There is no way we're gonna try that in my cave, young lady.
Oh, yeah? Okay, then I won't try.
From now on, I am a full-on veg-a-eatian! Let's cool it! Croods, corners! Fine, but my corner is meat-free! My corner has spider-ants! Cool! Why is she being crazy? Eep used to love meatball night.
She's just at that age where she starts questioning everything.
I was the same way.
We just need to support her interests until she realizes how terrible they are on her own.
You know, like good parents.
So, Croods, we're eating vegetables for dinner! Yeah! So you're saying Thunk's also gonna be this difficult some day? Oh, you're tickling me! No.
Ooh, don't these leaves look yummy? See? Gathering is easy! Yes, and that's what's wrong with it.
You can't trust easy.
But hunting? Hunting is hard.
Hunting can kill you, that's how you know it's good.
And, hey, anyone else realize that now we're all just following Eep? Have I made my point that we're all followers? No one's following! We are all our own leaders.
Sandy, no! I mean, lead yourself away from that meat.
Get me one of those big leaves, Thunk.
Actually, make it two.
- Why aren't you up here, Gran? - Oh, I told you, I'm too old and weak.
- Who wants dinner? - Oh, wow, yummy.
I don't know if I can eat all of this.
I can.
Hey, I thought you said you were weak.
- Just an excuse.
- A what? I made it up so I wouldn't have to do - something I didn't want to do.
- Oh Hey, Mom, I need to eat the meatball right now because my head will blow up if I don't.
- Like that? - Needs work.
So that's it? How does that Bulky kid do it? Maybe Bulk's mom feeds him meat when he's sleeping.
That's how I stopped Sandy from sleep-biting Thunk.
I know where there's plenty of food just begging to be eaten.
Huh? I'm alive! There's plenty of veggies around here somewhere.
Looking for veggies, huh? That bush is talking! I'm hungry, let's eat it.
- I'm not a bush.
- Don't listen to the bush, Thunk.
Help me take off its arms! - Nah, this body is all veg-a-eatian.
- Point, meat-eaters.
Welcome to the veggie club, friend.
Whoa, now that will fill you up! - Where do I find veggies this big? - The Garden of Eaten.
Everyone calls it that.
Okay, I call it that.
Anywho, get all these and you'll be set to feed your whole family.
- For days? - For dinner.
One dinner.
Oh Well, still works.
- Let's go! - Uh, no.
We're going home.
New places are too dangerous.
You always say that.
Because it's good advice to follow.
Nobody ever said, "Oh, he died when he walked into that old familiar place.
" I'm not a follower anymore, Dad.
- You can stay here, but I'm going.
- No, none of us are going.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no! To be clear, I am only here to make sure nobody dies.
Except for Gran.
Gran, you're on your own.
Deal.
This old bird likes to fly solo.
Psh, this is gonna be great! Okay, once I grab all of the stuff on this list, we'll have so much good food, you won't even want meat anymore.
Look! Easy pickin's! Come here, berry.
Who's the cutest little berry? Come here.
Ta-da! One down.
Oh, yeah, that tree wart looks tasty.
- But is it tastier than this? - No, Grug, we're supporting Eep by not eating that meatball.
That delicious, perfect ball of meat.
You really want to be mindless followers for this? Tell you what, the sooner you help me find everything on my list, the sooner you can eat this.
But trust me, once you taste my veggies, you won't even want to eat meat.
Deal? Then let's get gathering! Whoo! Mom, I don't think I can gather.
My head will explode if I do.
- You already used that excuse.
- Right! Uh My eyes will explode.
I love it, but maybe less explosions.
Oh When is she going to get over this? Croods follow traditions like eating meat and hunting and, like, how we all bury the hair we shed - so we'll never lose it.
- You bury your hair? Let's not get side-tracked, Ugga.
Dumb, stupid, plants.
Bugs aren't meat, are they? Oh, sorry, little plant.
I didn't mean to startle you.
I just meant to tear you out of the ground so my family can eat you! Ha! Way to distract it, Thunk! You're welcome! Thunk! Where are you? Once we find your brother, we are going home for a real dinner.
That's so unfair.
Just because you want to go home doesn't mean everybody does.
Right, everybody? Just me, huh? But I only have half the veggies on my list.
Sweetie, we wanted to support you in trying something different And it has been trying, really trying, because different is always terrible.
So come on, let's go.
Guys! Look what I found! You found the heart of the garden! Everything else on my list is here.
Are you okay, Thunk? Sure, Mom.
I made a soft landing.
Except for this.
Yay, you found your so-called "food.
" Just try it! For me? Doesn't stink too bad.
Hey, that tastes pretty good.
Fleshy, it's crunchy.
It's almost like food! Look at me! I'm a veggie-eaty man! Uh, Dad's fruit isn't on your list.
Oh, wait.
Yes it is.
There.
Grug? Honey? - How do you feel? - Amazing! Full! Different So, Dad's acting weird.
- Definitely not okay.
- Leaf monster! Don't worry.
I have a plan.
Mom, how does this plan help Grug? Oh, my plan was to get away from Grug.
Uh, Dad? Are you all right? Snake hair! Monster, vulture-face! Man in tree! Grug, you're seeing things that aren't real.
Actually, I am in a tree.
Why didn't you tell us that the plants in this garden are just as dangerous as the predators? - They ain't dangerous.
- There's a flower eating your foot.
Not eating, pollinating.
Spit it out, plant man! What is wrong with my dad? Well, looks like he ate a happy fruit.
A happy fruit? It makes everything you see appear terrifying.
- Is there any cure? - Oh, it'll pass in a week or two.
Until it does, get him comfortable and let him stare at the moon.
Lean into it, brother.
Enjoy the ride.
Hey! Any faster way to wrap this up? Hitting seems to work.
Well, a grandberry would pull him right out of it.
It's on your list.
Great! Which tree has it? Okay, we're clearly not doing that.
Honey, you're gonna have to ride it out at home.
I'm flying, but the sky is melting! No, Mom, let's go grab the grandberry.
- It's faster and - Green apple lightning bolt! - has less of that.
- No, Eep.
I tried to be supportive, but I am not gonna send the family into danger for this phase of yours anymore.
Your father's seeing things, Thunk's got a fruit stuck to his butt, and the rest of us are starving.
A phase? This is who I am now! Oh! Can I play tug-a-dad too? Monsters, please, stop tearing me apart! No, we're going home.
Follow me.
I am not a follower.
Was I ever this stubborn? Uh, yeah.
I'm still waiting for you to take my advice and dump Grug.
Hey, wait! Anyone up for a drum circle? Anyone else taste color?! - Shh, the tree is sleeping! - Oh, sorry, tree.
Glad that sounds normal to him.
And my dad said gathering was too easy.
Giant, cute death beast! Shh, Dad, no! Be quietly crazy.
I wanted to be a veg-a-eatian, but now, we're about to be veg-a-eaten! Eep! If we're going to be eaten, let's eat this first.
I didn't want to be a follower, but your meatball is the best! You want to split it? You have a meat head! I'll take that as a "yes.
" Huh? Killer grandberry tree wants a meatball? Then fetch! Huh? Uh, the world stopped melting.
Croods, we got an Eep to gather.
Not sure how much of this is really happening, but, uh, let's do it! Hiyah! Do it! I am real hungry for bark.
So, who wants dinner? I could eat! Pfft, followers.
How? We nearly killed ourselves hunting vegetables.
Who else does that? Pfft, yeah, everyone's a veg-a-eatian now.
That's why I only eat air.
Oh, that's new to you? Because we've been eating air for our whole lives.
Hm, guess you're just a follower.
- Boom! - Oh, yeah? Well, I won't eat air anymore, either.
You know, maybe being a follower isn't so bad.
Especially if you're following your family home to dinner.
But without you leading us, we never would've found this great food.
You're brave and I'm proud of you and a little scared, but mostly proud.
Ah-ah-ah, Thunk.
Get some dirt on your hands before you eat.
But, Mom, uh, I can't because my arms hurt from fighting a monster.
Great excuse! But listen to your mom.
Even I'm afraid of her.
Hey, Mom, thanks for supporting me, even if it was just a phase.
Oh, I'll support all your phases.
Besides, without you and your veggies, I'd never have made this Double meatball! Too much beauty! We need to have veggies more often! Uh, no, no.
We are not doing that again.
I Fine.
And that's the story of how we became meat and veg-a-eatians.
