Dawson's Creek s05e05 Episode Script

Use Your Disillusion

Mom, I got it.
It's a hairball.
I'm sorry.
I just thought you might like to know the tub is fixed.
Thanks, honey.
But for future reference I do not need to see the offending clogging object.
I'm sorry.
So the tub is fixed, I paid all the bills for next month.
What else? Oh, I could get Lily a new pacifier.
- Why don't you take a break? - I don't need a break.
- Tell me what needs to get done.
- Nothing needs to get done.
That's just it.
I don't need you to do anything right now.
Okay.
So, what about taking Joey up on her offer? She's been calling here almost every day asking you to go see her.
Yeah, but, you know, it's just been so hectic around here.
And there's something else that I'm forgetting to do that I need to do.
Honey I'm okay.
You can go away for a couple of days.
I will not fall apart.
So go to Boston, see your friends.
Lily and I will be right here when you come back.
So every morning, when you go out for a jog, you're actually- - Jogging, yes.
- You're not just ditching me to go have some iced cap frappé thing by yourself.
Because I never would have signed on for this little bonding session if I thought that real exercise was involved.
Must sit.
Okay.
Well, let's review.
He's gonna show up around 1.
We'll watch movies, order pizza.
It'll be me and him, no pressure.
I'll keep everything very low-key.
Low-key doesn't generally involve such a carefully planned itinerary - but whatever.
- I'm planning it out in case things do get weird.
There's a plan there for me.
No thinking on my feet required.
I'll order movies before he gets here in case he doesn't wanna go out, right? What are you so nervous about? It's just Dawson.
You guys have, like, known each other since you were placenta.
Exactly, it's Dawson, my best friend in the entire world who needs me now more than he ever has.
That's a lot of pressure.
You know, what if I mess up and I say all the wrong things, and at the end of the day, I'm not enough? Okay, so you have a smidge of performance anxiety.
No big thing.
I've seen it a couple of times myself.
It's not that.
I'm not afraid I'm gonna botch up my lines for some stupid play.
I'm afraid I'm gonna botch up my entire future with the only- I'm just- I want him to have a really relaxing, good weekend.
Well why don't you wait until he gets here and then ask him what he wants to do? That's putting him on the spot.
Making decisions is stressful and I just don't want him to feel stress of any kind.
- You're not planning on bringing up- - No.
No.
God, no.
I'm not gonna bring up the kiss or the whole moving to Boston thing.
There'll be no talking whatsoever.
- It sounds like a party.
- Well, parties are stressful.
Joey Potter, just the girl I was looking for.
- Hey.
- Quick, Rose Lazare.
Famous dead writer from the '20s.
- Like Dorothy Parker, but not? - Yes.
Ding, ding.
Her husband? - Mr.
Lazare? - Yes.
And also dead.
- Just died, in fact, which means? - We're very sad? No.
I mean, yes, but no.
The estate of Rose Lazare no longer belongs to her spouse but to the establishment which it was willed to - which is? - Please stop this.
Worthington.
Did you know she went here? Well, she did.
The real news is that I have been chosen out of all the department heads to inventory her estate.
Congratulations, that's - I have no idea what that means.
- Everything she's ever written unpublished works, unfinished books, short stories no one has ever read we get to go through it and find a gem worth publishing.
- We? - I'm putting together a team five students, to help with sifting, cataloguing, filing.
You'll be part of that team.
Say yes.
- Yes.
Yes.
Definitely.
- Yes, absolutely.
- God, I would love to.
- Great.
Great.
I'm gonna have a party at my house tomorrow night to celebrate.
- You'll meet the rest of the team.
- Oh, wait, I- I can't.
I have a friend coming into town.
- Bring her.
- Him.
And I would but he just had a death in the family.
I don't think it's a good idea.
- You're off the team.
- What? Kidding.
You're on the team.
But try to make it.
I'm serving Brie.
- I love Brie.
- I'm on a team? You think it's too late to transfer into his class? - He's hot! - Come on.
No, I can't.
My legs.
Is that your elbow? Because that's kind of digging into me.
It's Rolfing, a more intense version of massage.
- Hey, I can stop if you want.
- No, no.
It's just that I prefer the traditional Swedish massage.
- It feels good, no elbows necessary.
- Right.
Hey, what are you doing tomorrow night? - I'm working at the station.
Why? - Damn.
I wanted you to see this play with me, a requirement for one of my classes.
Oh, I'm sorry.
But if you want, you can come by afterwards and re-enact all the good parts for me.
- Naked, of course.
- Yeah, of course.
I'm sure Shakespeare intended to have his work performed in the flesh.
He knew it was the only way he was gonna keep his audience awake during all those draggy speeches.
Those "draggy speeches," as you call them actually happen to be quite beautiful.
Not half as beautiful as you are.
Nice save, cheeseball.
Is that-? Is that part of the Rolfing? Because I like that.
- You're not using your wrist.
- I am using it.
Show me again.
Me doing it for you is not going to teach you anything.
Why won't you just show me what I'm doing wrong? - You gotta bounce it.
- My hero.
You realize that? You are my hero.
That's good, Pacey.
Just keep stirring the sauce.
Now stir the sauce.
Save it.
I could smell the male bonding from behind the door.
And the odour is pungent.
Well, maybe those are just my pheromones calling to you.
Maybe you need a stronger deodorant.
Good luck, my friend.
I've seen better men try and fail.
But did they have a 50-foot yacht to lure her with? - That makes me fancy.
- Right, right.
I keep hearing about this famous boat.
When do I get to see it? - Whenever you'd like, man.
- Cool.
How about this? How about you lend me the boat tomorrow night I'll take the wife out for a romantic evening and give you the night off.
- Done.
- Great.
Great.
Emily will love this.
She's wanted a night out.
Hey, any time you wanna use it.
- Yeah! That's my boy.
- Nice.
My brother told me that during initiation week his phone rang Calling to do what? Do anything, man.
Call you to clean a pledge master's room tie their shoes, make them breakfast.
- What if you're in class? - You gotta go, man.
Make up some excuse, like your bowels are going crazy or whatnot, and bolt.
Yo, yo, I heard that if you can guess Polar Bear's real name - you're automatically in.
- Get out.
- That's what I heard.
- What do you think his name is? I don't know, but it's probably something stupid, like John.
Seriously.
Derek.
No, really.
He looks like a Derek.
- He does.
- Or maybe his real initials are P.
B.
You know, like Perry Bastille.
He could be French.
- Shut up.
- What? What a- Ryan? Ryan or Eric? - Tobey! - Tobey? What the hell kind of name-? How are you? What are you doing here? Jen said I'd find you here.
- Surprise.
- Yeah.
This is amazing.
I can't believe you're actually in Boston.
Oh, my God.
I want you to meet some of my pledge brothers.
Guys, this is my boyfriend, Tobey.
- Hey.
- Right on.
- Not me.
- Me.
What's up? - Figures.
- Yeah, yeah, I got it.
I got it.
- Who is it? - What do they want? Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm out, I'm out.
- Later, guys.
- He's not talking.
- Good luck.
- What's all the excitement? I'll explain on the way home.
We're out of here.
Right on.
Take care, bro.
- Nice meeting you.
- Nice meeting you.
- They can't tie their own shoes? - It's just a hazing thing.
Compared to what they used to do to pledges, it's a piece of cake.
I guess I should take comfort in that.
You could be doing things with cattle.
- What? - I saw something on HBO.
No, no.
It's not like that.
I mean, hell week is nothing more than a way to bond the pledges together.
- That's the way I look at it.
- It sounds like you're having fun.
I am, I am.
This week is gonna be insane.
I just wish I would've known you were gonna be here.
I mean, I'm psyched that you're here.
It's just I won't have as much time to spend with you as I'd like.
But you will have some time, right? Of course.
I will make time.
I'll tell you what.
Tomorrow, we'll tour Boston, anything you want.
I have one obligation in the morning and then I am all yours.
- Cool.
All right.
- All right.
Jo, you just 409ed my face.
Sorry.
What happened to low-key, no stress? What happened to you leaving before he gets here? It's, like, 12:48.
I have plenty of time to finish painting my nails.
So I'll be going now.
- Hey.
- Hey.
Hi, gorgeous.
Bye, gorgeous.
Bye, Audrey.
- So she's still weird, then? - Getting weirder every day.
So how are you? I'm great.
I mean, I'm I'm okay.
I'm okay.
- School good? - Yeah.
My professor told me about this project that sounds- It sounds pretty amazing and Well, it's really- It's not that big a deal.
I mean, it's actually kind of confusing to me.
Not that you would be confused by it.
It's just- It's hard to explain but How are you? I'm okay.
Before I forget, I have something for you.
I got this at the bookstore.
I just thought that I would have liked it if somebody had gotten it for me when my mom Thank you, it looks - very helpful.
- You're welcome.
- So, what's-? - I have a bunch of- A bunch of what? I got a bunch of movies.
I thought we could watch them, hang out.
- All day? - Oh, well, no.
I mean, we don't- We don't have to, I- You know what.
Actually, that's That's probably a great idea.
I'm kind of beat.
- I thought you might be.
- You were right.
Well, what movie do you wanna watch first? I'm telling you, Pace, you're gonna love it.
Why do you need to know which play? If I say you're gonna love it chances are you are gonna- What, you don't trust me? Fine.
It's Shakespeare.
Okay, great, so I'll pick you up at 7.
See you later on tonight.
Bye.
Men.
I swear, you've got to ram culture down their throats.
What are you doing here? I thought you were meeting Jack at Newbury.
I know, I thought so too.
But he's not there.
I figured I messed up and we were supposed to meet here.
- But I guess- - I can't believe he flaked on you for those frat morons.
He didn't flake on me.
He's just running late, that's all.
- It's no big deal.
- Tobey, it is a big deal.
You're here for one weekend.
He could put down his beer bong and be on time.
It's not like that.
He had an obligation.
I understand.
I'm telling you, he's obsessed.
Come on, he's not obsessed.
- He's happy.
- He is turning into a pod person.
Come on, Jack doesn't have the pod mentality.
Trust me.
Well, I'd better be getting back.
I'm sure he's waiting for me, wondering where I am.
Okay.
- See you.
- See you.
You want another slice of pizza? No, thank you.
Another Coke? I can run to the machine.
- No, I'm good.
- Okay.
Just checking.
Dawson, I am so sorry.
I completely forgot.
- That's okay.
- I went right to the comedy section without even realizing and I- I'm the most insensitive idiot on the planet.
I would never think that.
No, I- I'm freaking out here.
- Joey, it's okay.
- No, it's not okay, Dawson.
This is your time to freak out.
I'm robbing you of that by making this about me when it isn't.
I know it isn't.
And I know that you know.
So There you go again.
You're doing my job.
I'm supposed to be making you feel better.
You're not supposed to be doing anything.
I just kind of wanted to make this a really fun, relaxing weekend for you.
Maybe Audrey was right.
Maybe we should have just gone out.
- Let's go out.
- Now? Why not? Okay.
Well, my professor is throwing this thing at his house that could be kind of fun.
- Apparently there's gonna be Brie.
- I love Brie.
Everybody does.
Okay.
I'll grab my coat.
All right.
I'm telling you: Karen, she is smart, she's feisty.
- I definitely feel the love connection.
- Yeah? Is she flirting with you? Well, if we were to go back to the third-grade definition of flirting Hair-pulling, name-calling, general nastiness? Yes, if that's the definition, then we got it going on.
God, I am so glad I'm not single anymore.
And then there's Danny.
I'm telling you, you could not create a more perfect boss.
- I think I've finally found my mentor.
- That's fantastic, Pace.
- What's he like? - Well, he's just like me, only older.
Wait, the guy who can supposedly guide you through your life - is just an older version of you? - Yep.
You're saying that when you grow up, you basically want to be yourself? Yeah.
I'm very well adjusted.
My God.
- Oh, my God.
- Isn't that your boyfriend? - Yeah.
- I thought he was working tonight.
That's what he told me.
That's funny.
We should probably get to the play- Now, just wait a second.
Hold on.
What are you gonna do? - Go in there and beat his ass.
- Easy, "Thelma.
" You don't know what's going on.
- He told me he was working.
- Volume, please.
Volume, okay? Obviously, the two of you have had a slight miscommunication.
You're too upset to deal with it.
Let's go to this play which is a requirement for your schooling.
Tomorrow, you call him, he explains- - What sort of possible explan-? - Volume! Maybe he won't explain, but either way, you'll be calmer more rational and happier that you waited because when you do, you'll have gained the upper hand.
Okay? - Fine.
- Good.
- No, no.
- Let me go get him.
Put me down! Is this how you're gonna be all night? Could have called.
That's all I'm saying.
I wanted to.
But you refuse to buy a cell phone - for reasons I still can't understand- - Brain tumours.
The point is that I had no way of letting you know that I was gonna be late.
You couldn't leave what you were doing? - No, I couldn't.
- Why? What were you doing? I I can't tell you.
It's part of the rules.
- I know it sounds stupid but- - Whatever.
Look, don't do that, all right? Don't get all girlfriendy on me.
I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that last comment.
Yeah.
Sorry.
I didn't mean that.
Let's just not say it again.
- Okay? - Okay.
You look really great.
Really? Thanks.
I missed you.
- I missed you too.
- Sorry.
Yeah? Now? I'm kind of in the middle of something here right now.
How important? My friend's only in town for a bit.
It's okay.
Yeah.
Hold- Hold on, hold on.
Really? They're saying it's only gonna take half an hour.
- Go.
- I'll be there.
All right.
All right.
Later.
Those guys.
You are amazing.
You know that, right? Yeah, yeah.
That's what all the boys say.
I'll tell you what.
Meet me at the house in half an hour which is still early, so we can do whatever you want.
Yeah, have fun.
Excuse us.
Sorry about that.
Across her face.
Okay.
So Othello, huh? You think you could give me the Cliffs Notes version? Othello is about a man convinced that his wife is cheating on him.
So he kills her and then he kills himself.
Excuse us.
We'll be right back.
Joey, you made it.
- Wanna meet my professor? - I'm gonna go in the kitchen.
- Want me to come with you? - To hold my hand? - I'll be over here if you need me.
- Okay.
I just want it noted for the record that I think this is a very bad idea.
- You said that already! - I want it noted.
Like, make it official.
Like, you know, go home and type it up maybe.
Charlie Todd? What a coincidence.
Oh, my God.
Do you mind if I borrow this chair for a second? Thank you.
Hi.
Hi.
How are you? Coffee! I would really love a cup of coffee.
Do you mind if I do? God, I really do hope this is iced.
What are you-? How about some whipped cream, huh? That is really tasty stuff.
Jennifer Lindley meet llyse Todd, my sister.
llyse, this is Jen, the girl I was telling you about.
Hi.
Your sister? I'm s- Your vibe's all tweaked, man.
What's going on? Nothing.
I'm just wondering how much longer this is gonna take.
Well, they're sending us in one at a time.
My guess is we're being fitted for our blazers.
- Or getting our keys to the house.
- It's possible.
Word is on the street, though, that tomorrow's the last day.
Initiation's tomorrow? I thought we had a whole week left.
It's just what I'm hearing.
Could be wrong.
I hope you are.
If I have to come back tomorrow, I'm in the doghouse.
- Man troubles? - No.
- No.
- Let me guess.
He's not digging you spending all your time with the fellas.
He's wanting to know where you've been.
- Little more complicated than that.
- Dude my girlfriend is the same way.
Mine keeps asking me what we do here.
" If I told you that, you'd be one of my brothers.
" You've gotta draw the line for them, Jacko.
- He's right.
- Guys, come on, I mean he flew out here just to see me.
Yeah, what's that about? Pretending this is some sweet move - when it's a hostile takeover.
- Thank you.
If he cared he would have called first, made sure the timing was right - then booked the flight.
- He wanted to surprise me.
What kind of weak-ass move is that? He's saying, " Hey, surprise! Here I am.
Now spend all your time with me, and you can't meet anyone new.
" So, what are you saying? He came out here to check up on me? - There's no way.
- He's a clever dude, man.
He is well aware of the hot-guy quotient at this campus.
Do you think Tobey doesn't know you could have your pick of the litter? - You do dress well.
- Thanks.
Dump the chump and move on with your life.
Plenty of other fish in the sea, dude.
- Time to go swimming.
- Be the shark.
You look thirsty.
You want a glass of wine or something? No.
Where did you get that bottle of water? Here, take mine.
Don't worry.
I have no germs to speak of.
I Listerine like five times a day.
I'm totally addicted.
So, what's your name? Do you go to Worthington? No.
I- I'm sorry, is it warm in here? I'm really warm.
Are you warm? - You want me to open a window? - Yeah, that'd be great.
Thank you.
- I'm sorry, we have to go.
- Is everything okay? - Professor Wilder, this is my friend- - I'm sorry.
I have to go right now.
I'm really sorry.
Dawson, what's going on? I don't know.
I couldn't stay in that house for another second.
Well, that's fine.
It's just you're the one who wanted to go out.
I know.
I know.
The other day I was in the grocery store waiting in line, and I couldn't wait anymore.
There were two people in front of me.
I knew if I didn't get out of the store I felt like I was gonna explode.
It was the weirdest feeling.
Just like a total complete loss of control.
But you didn't lose it.
You held it in and you walked out? Yeah.
But I hate not knowing where that feeling came from.
It's just this random emotion that blindsided me out of nowhere.
Is that how you felt tonight? Yeah.
But I wanted to go out.
I did.
I wanted to get out.
But as soon as we walked through that door I didn't want to be out anymore.
I just, like, changed my mind.
Just completely changed my mind for no good reason.
Dawson, that's allowed.
I mean, it's allowed.
I know.
But it was like a million degrees in there too, right? I mean, it was hot in there, right? Yeah.
It was.
Yeah.
I mean, that didn't help.
You know, maybe you're getting sick.
Flu's going around.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's- That's probably it.
It's Would you mind if we went back to the dorms? No, that's fine.
Great.
So I saw you holding her hand and, I don't know, I just- I was looking at her engagement ring.
Oh, wow, she got engaged? That's so nice.
Yeah, I'll be sure to congratulate her for you.
In all fairness, not that I deserve fairness of any kind but you told me you would be working.
My shift got switched.
I was gonna call, but I knew you'd be at the play.
Then my sister called and told me she had news.
And the rest Well, it's on my pants.
I can wash those for you.
In fact, I could do your laundry for a week.
A month.
A month.
I can do your laundry for a whole month.
- How's that for an apology? - That's a start.
I screwed up.
I'm sorry.
Oh, come on.
Listen, Jen.
All right, you have to learn to trust me.
I mean, think about it, all right? What if I would have seen you with your friend Pacey? Would it have been cool for me to just jump to conclusions? - No.
- No.
And I wouldn't have.
Why? Because I trust you.
Because I realize that we have something very special here.
You are absolutely, Of course I'm right.
I'm always right.
Gonna let that one slide because you have whipped cream on your crotch.
Yeah.
Come here.
Come here.
I'm sorry.
Gentlemen.
Did anyone notice anything peculiar about Seaman First-Class Irvine? A shirttail hanging outside trousers is the regulation uniform for busboys not for a sailor in the United States Navy.
These are the things we'll start noticing again.
- I am so sorry.
- Forget it, Jack.
- I don't care what you were doing.
- Listen- I said I don't care! I don't want to hear it.
Okay, how can I make this better, huh? You are now the morale officer.
In addition to your other duties, you will see to it- What do you want me to do? I want you to tell me the truth.
I want to hear you say your fraternity is more important to you than I am.
- It's true, isn't it? - It's just not that easy, Tobey.
You're here one weekend, I'm here four years.
What am I supposed to do when you leave tomorrow? Wait around till I can scrape up some money to go see you? - We'll do that for how long? - Until- - I don't know.
- Look, I need to develop a social life here, all right? And I have.
And for the first time in my life, I'm doing it while being honest and open about who I am.
I didn't have to compartmentalize myself to make it easier on them.
What are you talking about? All right, look.
When I first moved to Capeside, okay everyone got to know me as Andie's brother.
And then it was Joey's artist boyfriend.
And then I told everyone I was gay.
For the rest of high school, that's all I was: "Jack, the gay guy.
" - That is not all you were to them.
- Well, maybe not, but that's how it felt.
So when Sigma Epsilon asked me to pledge I wanted to tell them the truth up front so I didn't have to go through all that again.
The amazing thing was that these guys already knew and they didn't care.
They wanted me to join their fraternity knowing everything there is to know about me.
Tobey, they wanted me.
So now I just get to be Jack.
No labels.
I thought you, of all people, would understand how important this is to me.
God! I guess maybe they were right.
Wait.
"They" who? You talked about our relationship with total strangers? - No.
They're my friends.
- You just met them, Jack.
My God! Just because they know you're gay doesn't mean they know you.
And they certainly don't know me.
How could you think they'd understand our relationship? Relationships are universal.
You don't have to be gay to understand a jealous boyfriend.
You think I'm jealous of your frat buddies? If that's not it, then what is it? - I want to be a priority.
- You are.
No.
Not one of your priorities.
It is not enough that I make the top three.
You come first to me, no matter what I'm doing or how far away I am.
You are my first priority.
I wonder what you're up to.
I think about ways to make you laugh with a stupid e-mail or a care package.
I think about you.
God, when I'm with you, when I am not with you.
No matter what is going on in my life, you are my first priority.
But clearly I am not to you anymore.
And that's the truth, isn't it? Karen Torres, the light of my life.
The cherry-flavoured Kool-Aid in my cup.
- Good morning, freak.
- How do we always end up working the same shifts together? Fate? Destiny working in our favour? Or could it be that you check to see my shifts before asking for yours? That's a very cynical way of looking at it.
It's true but cynical.
And she smiles.
My day is made.
- Danny's not here yet? - No, he's not.
May I-? Emily, Danny's wife.
I'd shake your hand but I'd get you sick.
Last night wasn't too much fun, huh? Not unless going through eight boxes of Kleenex is fun.
Anyway, Danny left his wallet home again, so here.
Nice meeting you, Pacey.
Danny's been talking about you non-stop.
Apparently, you're his new favourite.
- Don't forget your toothbrush.
- It's in there.
Joey, thank you.
- For what? - For taking me in, getting me out.
All evidence to the contrary, you made me feel better.
- I did? - Yeah.
Of course you did.
So I should get going.
You know, you're welcome here anytime, Dawson.
I'll I'll call you soon.
I don't think he's coming, Tobey.
Yeah, I know.
I just can't help looking.
- What is that? - What is what? That fantasy where the guy who broke your heart realizes he's made the biggest mistake of his life.
And he finds you.
Wherever you are, he comes running up to you and he says, " I can't live without you.
You are my entire universe.
And if you don't take me back right now, I will never love anyone again.
" Where's this fantasy come from? Movies.
Television.
And that little place in your heart that harbours hope.
He's gonna regret this, you know.
Yeah, maybe.
Maybe not.
The thing is we tell ourselves that to make ourselves feel better but the truth is somebody always gets hurt worse.
Every break-up.
This time it's me.
Come here.
Gotta go.
Hold onto that Charlie.
He seems like he could be a good egg.
I will.
I really thought he'd come.
Come on.
I left the keys to your boat in your drawer.
- Thank you.
- No.
Thank you.
My wife had a fantastic time.
I'm glad.
I did it.
I'm officially a brother.
- Congratulations, you officially suck.
- Whatever.
All right, I gotta go I gotta go change.
You broke his heart.
Do you care? Because you don't seem too bent out of shape about it.
Jen, what do you want from me? I want you to take a second and think about what you gave up today.
- You don't think that I know? - I have no idea.
I mean, I don't even feel like I know you anymore.
We haven't really been friends since you got involved with this frat.
Or maybe since you started seeing Charlie.
- That's not fair.
- Why should I be fair, Jen? - You haven't been fair in months.
- Is this about us? - I thought it was about you and Tobey.
- It's all the same.
Look, we are all growing apart, okay? So maybe I wanted to spare Tobey a little bit of pain.
- What does that mean? - It means I- I wanna- I wanna meet new people, okay? I wanna have new experiences.
And I don't wanna have to worry about hurting somebody else in the process.
Well, maybe you should've told him that.
I'm telling you that.
Okay.
I have to go.
Charlie has a class and I have to Yeah.
Hold on a sec.
I'll call you later.
Okay.
Okay, Potter, let's go.
I got my portable fan, I got my water bottle I got my new glittery lipstick, which rocks.
I am ready to jog.
And you're not happy.
No, I am happy.
That's the problem.
- Because you're neurotic? - No, because I shouldn't be happy.
My best friend in the entire world just left.
I haven't seen him in almost a month.
And as soon as he left, I felt relieved.
Now, how horrible is that? That's not horrible, that's honest.
Then why do I feel so guilty? He didn't want the book? I don't know.
Maybe he forgot it.
Or maybe it was his way of telling me to butt out.
Truthfully, I didn't think the book would even help.
- Why did you get it then? - Well, because.
I knew that as soon as I saw him, everything I wanted to say would get totally fumbled and I would forget the words.
And I wanted him to know how I felt.
And I didn't want to write an e-mail because it just It's so impersonal.
The thought of writing a letter just felt weird.
No, agreed.
Actual letters have a very grandma, hokey, sleepaway-camp kind of feel to them.
Right.
So I got him this book and I wrote this inscription and now he'll never read it.
And all he'll remember is what a big freak I was.
And all I'll remember is how I feel right now which is just thoroughly exhausted.
What do you say we skip the jog and go straight for the iced cap frappé thing? I'll change my clothes.
Audrey thank you.
Hey try the glitter lipstick.
It's really fun.
Okay.
Dear Dawson.
.
When this happens you wanna reach out and grab the people around you who matter most.
The ones you take for granted all the time.
You wanna take those people and hold on as tight as you can tell them how precious they are to you.
How knowing them makes your life better every single day.
Because when something like this happens you realize how awful it would be if they didn't know if they weren't aware of the effect they've had on your life.
So I want to take this moment to tell you that I love you, Dawson and I'm here for you now, forever and every day in between.
Love, Joey.
