Elisabeth Rioux: Unfiltered (2024) s01e03 Episode Script

To Meet or Not to Meet?

1
MONT-TREMBLAN
WINTER VACATION
Wow, baby. How beautiful is this?
Oh, my goodness. Look.
Now, how about some cereal for Mommy?
Thank you.
Three, two, one.
Mommy is coming. Where are you, Wolfie?
Baby girl.
Before I had Wolfie, my family and
business were definitely my priorities,
but now Wolfie is my top priority,
for sure.
Then I've got my family.
I just think everyone's
general happiness is my priority.
To me, the word "happiness"
is so important in all of that,
as for me it's like,
"Well, as long as we're happy."
ELISABETH RIOUX
UNFILTERED
I've invited my whole family
to the chalet for the weekend.
It's important to get together every now
and then as we don't always have time to
with the company. Often when
we see each other it's for work.
My sister is expecting
her second child right now.
From a business perspective,
I'm definitely a bit stressed about it,
but from a personal family point of view,
it's the most beautiful thing to happen.
I know it will all be fine,
but also, it's definitely worrying,
knowing I won't be there every day
to check everything is going okay.
My sister is going on maternity leave
and she is my go-to person at Hoaka.
I trust my team regardless,
but if something unexpected crops up,
I'll have to handle it. It's on me.
Can I take all of that on right now?
Not necessarily.
CHLOÉ RIOUX
ELISABETH'S YOUNGER SISTER
Mom told me
you're planning to study in Paris.
Yeah, I'd like to. I just need
to wait to see if I get accepted.
-So is that why you're going to Marseille?
-No.
Okay.
Well, okay then.
Unfortunately, over the past few years,
my sister and I haven't talked
as much as we used to.
When we were young, we got along so well,
but now we struggle to catch up.
We don't necessarily always know
what to talk about.
I feel Chloé perhaps struggled a bit more
with me becoming famous.
I'm glad the spotlight is on my sister,
because I wouldn't want
to live a life like that.
Are you still with that guy
you were seeing, or what?
No, that's over. It's done.
Wait. But didn't you
just start seeing him?
-Yes, that's right.
-Okay. So what happened?
Nothing. He was just too boring.
So why did you go out
with him in the first place, then?
Well, because I knew him from before.
-You didn't know he was too boring then?
-Yeah, I did.
I often feel like
I'm walking on eggshells,
so it's true that it can be pretty hard
to have a conversation.
So, how is your brand doing?
It's going well.
I'm creating designs and everything.
Chloé has her own company.
She's very independent.
She wants to do things her own way.
Everyone criticizes Chloé
for wanting to be successful in life
because she's Elisabeth's sister.
That's a lot for Chloé to deal with.
It's going pretty good.
I just launched a collection.
I think Chloé is trying to find herself.
I think she's still figuring things out.
I'm not a millionaire at all.
I'm broke.
I mean, I'm a student.
We trialed Chloé at Hoaka
so she could work for us,
but it never really worked out.
I feel like she didn't really
have the motivation for it.
It's a tricky matter
managing a family member
who isn't necessarily doing
everything they should be at work.
Basically, as everyone was
all together at the same time,
I thought it would perhaps make sense
to introduce them
to the Hoaka hair products project.
We've always said that we should try
to not discuss business at family dinners.
DANIELLE POMERLEAU
ELISABETH'S MOTHER
Well, we try, anyway.
Do you think that one day you'll be able
to fully delegate everything
so the girls no longer have
to text you to approve every post?
Well, I mean, that's the goal.
It actually wouldn't be delegating
as I'd always want to check everything.
For sure. You'd never
I'd even like someone to do my designs,
but I want them to come from my ideas.
Same goes for the posts.
Dolores and Steeve keep telling me
to hire someone to share the workload.
I'm like, "Yes, I want to,
but we need to find the right person."
Sometimes I think
she tries to do too much.
She should do less and do it better.
Who was the most difficult out of us
when we were younger?
Or rather, who needed the most attention?
Elisabeth.
Elisabeth needed a lot of attention.
We'd even get emails from her teachers,
and Elisabeth would say,
"No, that's not true. They're lying."
In our old house
where we lived when you were younger,
you three would sleep upstairs
and our bedroom was on the first floor.
I didn't have to go upstairs often.
-It was a nightmare.
-Yes, a nightmare.
There was stuff strewn everywhere
in the bathroom.
-It was unbelievable.
-Piles of clothes all over the bathroom.
-I just had more clothes.
-I hated you stealing my perfume.
-You always stole my things.
-Oh, my God. What?
If you couldn't find something,
you knew it was Elisabeth.
-Yes.
-She stole our stuff.
-Your straighteners, razor. Anything.
-Yeah.
She'd takes things and didn't care.
She'd either break things
or you'd never see them ever again.
-Sorry, Eli, but I agree with Chloé.
-Yeah.
When we were young, we had teams.
One day I'd team up with Dol.
Another day, I'd be with Elisabeth.
-It was always a battle.
-I feel sometimes it still is.
With three sisters,
it's often two against one.
Even her office is always a mess.
Yeah, but she still comes over
and takes stuff.
No, that's not true. It's not.
My sister and I don't fight like
cats and dogs. More like two cats
in an alley fighting
because we're so alike.
The state of my bathroom
after you stayed with us for a week.
I couldn't cope anymore.
She took my hairbrush
and even my toothbrush.
I don't mind admitting it.
If I forget my toothbrush, I take hers.
We have the same DNA after all.
-I didn't take your brush.
-You did.
I didn't take your hairbrush
as I have my own.
It's the same one I've had for years.
I ordered it.
Well, this is fun. The whole gang is here,
at least. We don't always have time.
I was a brunette for two years. I only
just dyed it. What are you talking about?
We got so into our little family squabbles
and it was too much of a a family moment
for me to ruin it talking business.
I decided to keep
the partnership a secret for now,
but I'll announce it another time.
I had blackish-brown hair
when I stayed with you.
Yeah, so maybe
it was your boyfriend then, Chloé?
What are you working on this morning?
The Miami photo shoot
and our plus-size collection.
Steeve is really sweet. He takes care
of everyone. He's like a father figure.
If you need anything,
he's there to help you.
Started to get handle on everything?
Have you sourced the models?
I have my to-do list.
Things are moving along nicely,
but it's quite tricky
as it's an industry I don't know as well.
For the plus-size shoot,
Eli is even more demanding and picky.
Unfortunately, many companies don't dare
to launch plus-size swimsuit collections.
That might be for financial reasons,
as those items aren't always top sellers,
but also, on social media, if things
aren't done perfectly in everyone's eyes,
people hate on the content,
and negative comments scare companies.
I think it's important to include
all body types
and as many people as possible.
It's so tough as our fans have
really high expectations
and we're aiming even higher.
It has to be amazing,
incredible and extraordinary.
We decided to launch
on the plus-size market now
because we really wanted
to do it in the right way.
It's an extremely difficult market
to break into.
If you're not plus-size yourself,
it can be difficult to truly understand
the plus-size market.
I'm back in Miami
because we have a really cool photo shoot
for our plus-size collection.
-Yes, hello? Laurie?
-Eli?
Yeah? Are you getting here soon?
We are still waiting on one model.
We only have two. One is running late.
Yeah, no, I get it, but she's late
and we're just 10 minutes from the hotel,
so I think it's best for her
to meet us here instead.
As everyone is ready, we can't waste time.
There are clouds coming in.
Basically, when you do a photo shoot,
you always have a big day ahead.
There are tons of details to check.
The swimsuits must fit
each girl perfectly and be the right size.
They've often not tried them on before.
So that's my boss. You're gonna love her.
Hola.
Thank you so much for being here.
You girls are gorgeous.
The third one was a no-show.
-She didn't text you at all?
-No, she's not replying.
We fucking waited for her and, like
The issue is more that we won't have
all of the swimsuits represented.
I know. The photos won't look as good
if one is missing,
as we planned the photo shoot
for three people.
Basically, we had a major problem.
One of the girls didn't show up.
It's something that often occurs at Hoaka.
What makes it really problematic
is that if someone doesn't show up
and their body type isn't represented,
people will think
that we don't support diversity
and often they'll complain on Instagram,
so this kind of issue sometimes means
we have to scrap the whole shoot.
Sorry to interrupt.
Laurie, do you have the accessories?
I think I'll show them
to the photographers.
Yeah, I put the jewelry in the car
with the rest
I've got that. I meant beach balls, etc.
We put the jewelry on the girls.
It's to show them the poses.
When you said accessories,
I thought you meant stuff like
earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
I didn't think
No. I was talking about
the mood board we made. You know?
-The beach props to go in the photos.
-Okay.
I don't have any accessories in that sense
as I misunderstood what you meant.
When you're told you sometimes need
to ask Eli lots and lots of questions,
that was a great example.
I didn't think about props for the shoot,
so beach balls,
noodles and stuff like that.
I really had to act fast.
Hi. It's Laurie from Hoaka.
I just have a little technical problem.
The model didn't show up. Did you give her
the right place and time?
VOICE OF SANDRA
MODEL BOOKING AGEN
Yes, and she confirmed everything.
I'm so sorry about that.
I will call her right away
and I will let you know what's going on.
So, basically, the goal of the photo shoot
is really to have, like,
a retro, like, vintage kind of vibe.
That's what I thought we could use.
I don't know if we can open it.
See, I need someone like Laurie so if
there is an issue, she will make calls.
No matter where we are,
if we need to get something,
she'll hop in her car and go get it.
Can I see what it looks like?
Can we try to put, like, less sand in it
and make it more centered?
Arms in the air. Having fun.
-Hi.
-Hi, Laurie. It's Sandra.
-Hey. Do you have any updates?
-I'm so, so sorry.
I haven't been able to get
in contact with her.
She's not answering my texts,
not answering my calls.
I'm so, so sorry about that.
If a model doesn't show up to a shoot,
we must try to come up with a solution.
Hi. How are you?
Good. You look so pretty.
We're shooting a new bikini collection,
and you would look stunning in this color.
It's, like, a teal color.
-No, no, no.
-No? Are you sure?
Yes, I'm sure.
When so many people are counting on you,
it's stressful
and it really ramps up the anxiety.
Are you having a nice day?
We have a little favor,
if you don't mind. No?
I knew Eli would be watching
to see how I would react,
what I'd do
and how I'd turn the situation around.
I brought my camera just so that we have
sneak peeks to post. Do you mind?
Yeah, of course.
When I take photos,
I'm a real perfectionist.
The photos must look flattering.
I feel like sometimes people
don't focus on that.
They take beautiful
yet unflattering shots.
You want to go, like,
try find the next spot?
-Yep.
-I'll finish with them.
-And maybe if you have any other ideas
-I'll do it along the water.
Are you comfortable
in front of the camera?
-Yeah, I guess you could say so.
-Do you have, like, 30 minutes off?
One girl agreed and came over,
so we were really lucky.
Well, actually, Laurie made our luck
for us. Thanks, Laurie.
Thank you so much for being here.
Honestly, you're saving our lives.
We really wanted three girls to represent,
like, each type of bikini, so
Okay, everyone is having fun.
The plus-size collection is so important
as body diversity is something
that is natural
and something
that should also be celebrated.
Maybe stand to one side to take some?
We all need to snap them at the same time
as we don't have long left.
Having fun.
The goal is to ensure that plus-size girls
love trying on swimsuits,
that they feel beautiful in them.
I think we're often trying our hardest
and sometimes the wheels fall off,
but we need to change that trend.
Yeah. Thank you so much. Oh, my gosh.
We got it.
Tonight, it's dinner out with the girls.
The three girls.
It's gonna be so much fun.
The bars and restaurants
I've seen here all have such a vibe.
After a day like today,
it's gonna be great tonight,
as today was mega intense.
Seriously intense.
We need to find a way to get me
to one of your shoots
as I'd love to come along.
I could do, like, behind-the-scenes clips.
That could be nice.
When we got to Miami, I downloaded Tinder.
The guys are really cute.
-Oh, my God.
-Why don't you download it too?
-Maybe tomorrow.
-That's some serious hesitation.
-Perhaps.
-Why such hesitation?
If I tell you something, don't tell Clau.
I can't tell Clau? So what is it?
The thing is
I've started seeing a guy in Montreal.
-Really?
-Although it's not official yet.
That's why I don't want to tell Clau.
I don't want it to be
But she's your best friend.
Doesn't it make sense to tell her?
Claudia is an extremely protective friend.
I just want to be sure about everything
before I tell her.
Right now, everything is too uncertain.
It's just he's not on social media at all.
-I know she'll think that's dodgy.
-No socials?
-Every time I tell her about a guy
-Wait. No socials? You're kidding?
-Girl, that's a red flag. That's like
-What?
How do you expect him
to understand your job?
-It's kind of complicated, to be honest.
-Yeah? Why's that?
It's just when I'm with him
I don't want to post on social media.
So it does bother you a bit, then?
-It's not that it bothers me
-You said it's complicated.
I think it's pretty hard to find a date
who supports who you are.
I'm the queen of ignoring red flags.
That's why I'm here to point them out.
What color is this? Red.
The biggest green flag is that
he's nothing like the guys I usually date.
So far, things haven't gone very well
in my love life,
so I thought being
with someone completely different
could do me good. We'll see how it goes.
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
But I don't have a breadstick.
You'd never do this with a real penis,
so let's do it with a breadstick.
Ouch. That's going to hurt.
What type of guys do you like?
Who was your first ever crush?
Oh, my God.
My first crush was actually a girl.
-No way.
-In elementary school.
Have you ever had
a little crush on a girl?
You're always surrounded by girls.
You work in swimwear.
In life, I find girls more attractive.
Out of everyone walking past me
on the street, I notice girls,
but I've never imagined being with one.
-We've never crushed on the same guy.
-No.
That's why our friendship works so well.
-You don't have the same type?
-No, not at all.
I want to know how your types differ.
We don't have the same taste in guys,
as basically I like guys with beards.
She doesn't.
She likes guys with baby faces.
-Yes.
-I don't like guys with baby faces.
I like guys with baby faces,
but older guys.
Looks aren't necessarily
the most important thing to me.
That can go either way.
It's not about looks for me anymore.
I'm too old for that.
I need a career-oriented guy,
as I've had too many exes without jobs.
Elisabeth's love life
is really complicated.
She needs someone
who is on the same wavelength.
She's often with people who aren't.
Miami equals meeting new guys.
You're not seeing anyone,
so I've set you up on a date.
Lucky girl.
He's one of my boyfriend's friends.
He's really hot.
I really want to help introduce Eli
to someone.
Claudia telling me I'm going
on a blind date is my worst nightmare.
He might be a bit different from the guys
she'd normally think to date.
I'm not really a girl who goes on dates.
I never date.
Trying to set me up already, girl?
No, I'm not going on a date.
I'm here to be with my friends.
My friends really insisted
that I go on a blind date.
I really don't feel like going.
I know you won't let it go.
I'm not saying yes or no,
but I'll let you know.
Do you want to go and see Grandpa?
You've got bagel everywhere. Up you go.
-Do you want to do a story with Mommy?
-Yes.
So, hi, guys. Today, this little one
is coming at work with me
at the warehouse. I have some interviews,
but my mom was sick today.
So she couldn't keep Wolfie,
so I have to bring her.
Wish me luck. And by the way, we're
still looking for someone in marketing,
so if you are interested
to work in marketing at Hoaka,
open the link right here
of our career page. Bye.
I love taking part in the interviews
for finding new employees.
I'm currently looking
for a graphic designer
and someone to help us manage
our social media accounts.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Shan. I'm a new immigrant,
and I come from Shanghai, China.
Say you created something
for Hoaka's social media accounts
and you showed it to Eli
and she didn't like it at all,
what would you do?
I would simply ask for more specifics.
-You wouldn't take it personally?
-No.
Okay. Because sometimes Eli
She is very demanding.
Why Hoaka?
Basically,
I've always followed Elisabeth Rioux.
-Okay, yes.
-I really, really like her
Her entrepreneurship.
I don't know how to say that in French.
Basically,
I really love everything she does.
I've been following Eli for a long time.
Yeah, there are some fans that apply.
They flip out, go crazy.
I get that you are a fan of Eli,
but none of what I'm seeing here
matters too much to me.
What I care about are the numbers.
That's not exactly
what we're looking for now.
-Well, I don't know.
-This is for the visual side of things.
It's all right. That's just my dad.
It's okay.
All done. What did you think of that
and the girls we met?
They were really lovely.
Whenever we hire someone, it's not like
I give them free rein to post
whatever they want on Hoaka's Instagram.
At the same time,
your expectations are so high
that we'll never find the person
who can do exactly what you want.
-For sure, but that's because
-We must try.
Yeah.
It's because Eli is
a real perfectionist in life.
Everything has to be beautiful
and perfect, like her photos,
so Eli will have to adapt
to meet us somewhere in the middle.
I doubt they'd ever be happy.
If I wanted to just hire whoever
and it didn't work out,
that would be a problem.
If I'm too difficult to please,
it's a problem.
We've already tried out a few people.
She's like, "I'm not happy with them."
She's very demanding.
ONE WEEK LATER
I don't know which kind of style
I'll go for.
I've no idea what this guy is like.
My friends have forced me to go on a date.
-No?
-Yes.
-Whose idea was it?
-Claudia's.
-Claudia? That doesn't surprise me.
-Yep.
I'm really not a compulsive shopper.
I've had the same clothes for ages.
I don't know how long I've had this.
As soon as I find something I like,
I keep it forever.
Eli is really thrifty in life.
As the expression goes,
she's a penny-pincher.
Her favorite meal is macaroni
that comes in a packet.
She could eat that for every meal.
Sometimes she just orders
a glass of water in a restaurant.
I say, "Enjoy life. You're allowed to."
Yeah, she is frugal.
However, she did buy a nice house.
I think it has something to do with how
we were brought up. I'm like that too.
Do you want to wear something sexy?
Something
-Pants? A dress?
-Not too sexy for a date.
-I don't want him to get the wrong idea.
-Yes, exactly. Yes, exactly.
Back in the day,
I'd go to a bar for a first date.
I'd settle everything
on the first evening.
-I suggest you try that from the get-go.
-You mean pay the bill?
Tell him, "I have a kid,
this is what my life is like,
"this is what I want,
and I won't have it otherwise."
I tend to do that too.
I prepare for the worst.
Exactly.
-I'm like, "This is all of my baggage."
-That's it.
She doesn't have a regular job,
CAROLLE MORIN
ELISABETH'S GRANDMOTHER
so she wants to meet someone
who can be the René to her Céline Dion.
That's what she needs.
I've never seen that dress before.
Love it. Is it new?
Yeah, I stole it
straight out of your suitcase.
What's mine is yours.
Blue looks good on you.
You should wear it more often.
-Gracias.
-Are you excited for tonight?
I'm gonna do my best.
You know I don't love things like this.
I actually think
I know what's bothering you.
Rémi told me about the conversation
you had at dinner the other night.
Personally, that hurt me.
I thought it was pretty sad
that after eight years of friendship,
you didn't feel comfortable enough
to talk to me about it.
If you knew about it, why did you
still want me to go on the date?
I 100% get your point, but I think
it's all about having life experiences.
Rémi told me the guy you're seeing
isn't in the same line of work as us
and that he's not that comfortable
with your life being on social media.
I feel like you're falling back
into the same patterns.
Looking at your past relationships,
all of the guys physically
It's precisely because
of comments like that
about who I'm dating
that I was afraid to talk
to you about it right away.
I just think that now you have Wolfie,
I don't want to see you having
the same problems as before.
You can't just think about
yourself anymore.
You have to think about Wolfie too.
You need someone stable in your life.
Someone who will uplift you both.
Clau, you're talking like
you know the guy I've met.
I've not even had the chance to tell you
about him. That's my bad, it's my fault,
but you think him not working
in the same field as me is a red flag.
However, for me,
that could be a green flag.
Can you just hear yourself for a second?
Social media is your life.
You built your company on social media.
Exactly. I feel like
you all pigeonhole me,
like, just because I did well on socials,
I must do that all of the time,
but I don't want that for my life.
I want you to get that.
All I'm trying to say is
I get really defensive
when it comes to your love life,
especially due to your past relationship.
You thought you knew your ex.
I don't like you bringing this up,
as these are personal choices.
Sure, I don't always
make the right choice,
but at the end of the day,
it's my life, so I must decide.
If I feel
Maybe my judgment isn't the best
If you knew you didn't want to go,
why waste my time to come pick you up
to drive 20 minutes to get you here?
In all honesty, I made an effort
because I didn't want to piss you off.
You're not even going to go in to say hi
and "Sorry, but I can't join you"?
I don't know what else to say to you.
That truly was a horrible evening.
I thought, "That's it.
I'm done with all of this."
