Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files (2010) s02e10 Episode Script

Asylum Apparition & Mystery Over Mexico

Tonight on "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files", That's really creepy.
Release birds! This is what we call a body chute, it was used to extract the bodies.
The most haunted location in the world.
If it's okay with you, I'd like to come down there.
Hello? There's something here with me, almost like I'm not alone.
All right, here we go! I see it, right there.
Is this what you call home? Austin: Guys, I just watched the ball roll out of the corner and out the door! Who's up there?! Woman: Ben, hi.
Well, who's gonna impress us first today? Guys, I have an awesome video to show you.
It occurred over the skies of Guadalajara, Mexico.
Miguel Aguila borrowed a camera from his neighbor in June of 2004, and he was testing out the functions of the video camera.
When he zoomed in on the sky, he noticed an entire aerial display unfolding right before his very eyes.
Woman: Whoa! It's like a fleet.
Those are a lot of UFOs.
There are literally hundreds of UFOs moving through the sky in unison.
Some people are saying that the cluster in the center is actually a mother ship and it's controlling the entire armada.
Now, when Miguel posted this video online, it sparked a lot of controversy among the UFO community.
But skeptics are still maintaining that this could be misidentified birds or some other natural explanation.
Bill: See, that's really curious.
You would think with such a public spectacle, That fact plus this mother-ship concept makes this case really interesting.
I really like this case, but before we lock it in, why don't we see what else we have? My video footage is black and white, and it was reportedly shot around the time of the UFO crash at roswell.
It was reportedly leaked from Area 51, and it shows what appears to be a living alien.
Awesome.
Whoa.
Now, the creature that we're looking at is referred to as Skinny Bob.
And you can see him from two different angles.
In the first, it shows its irregularly sized head and its almond-shaped eyes.
In the second angle, it shows its long, thin hands and its body.
It's been very popular online.
A lot of people are talking about it.
Couldn't this easily be done through puppetry or even animatronics? Or even computer-generated images.
When you look at that video, you can see the alien's movements are just too fluid.
With the 8-millimeter film, which should make the alien's movement look choppy alien's movement look choppy.
But there's no choppiness to this video that we're seeing.
So I'm thinking it's CGI with an 8-millimeter effect applied to it to make it appear vintage.
I find it interesting that we've seen a handful of these videos supposedly coming out of the roswell era.
But as of yet, there's nothing completely compelling.
Looks like the video's just too good to be true.
So, what I have is a bigfoot case.
Some hikers are hiking in the deep woods just outside of spokane, Washington.
Now, one of them takes out her cellphone camera to just take a picture of the view.
She didn't realize they captured something quite extraordinary.
Take a look at this.
She's following her friends here.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Wow.
Ben: You can see his legs moving and everything.
My issue is that you can really only see it for a split second, so it's hard to know what we're even really looking at.
I feel like we could just dress somebody up in a bigfoot suit and have him walk and re-create the video.
There doesn't even seem to be much of a reaction from the hikers, either.
Well, that's because they claim that they didn't actually see it while they were hiking.
They went back afterwards and reviewed it at home.
Bill: I think before we go trekking deep into the woods, we need better video evidence and we need actual eyewitnesses.
I'm gonna have to agree with you, Bill.
I don't think that this video warrants a trip up to Washington.
I do agree it would be nice to have a little bit more compelling evidence before we start a case like this.
All right, guys, I actually have two videos for you today.
Both of them coming from the Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
Many people consider this to be the most haunted location in the world.
The first video was actually captured on a thermal camera.
Check this out.
Lanisha: That's really creepy.
Devin: What is that? Now, you can see what appear to be two figures that almost just appear out of nowhere, looking almost transparent, fluttering a little bit, and then disappearing almost back into the wall.
Okay, now, Doug Peters is the videographer who shot this, and he claims that he could not see anything with his naked eye.
A lot of people are saying that this is proof that Waverly Hills Sanatorium is definitely haunted.
This location is legendary in the paranormal community, and its history is pretty dark.
In the early 1900s, America was in the grips of a tuberculosis epidemic, and Waverly was considered to be an advanced treatment facility.
But the truth is, most people who went there died.
People from all over the world travel to this location, and a lot of them try to communicate with a spirit in the children's ward named Timmy.
Now, they set a rubber ball down in the center of the floor, and they see if Timmy will move it for them.
Wait till you guys see the second video.
Devin: Whoa, whoa.
Seems to be changing directions unpredictably like some sort of external force is controlling it.
Exactly.
And one thing I love is the fact this ball started moving from a complete standstill.
- Cool.
- Bill: Wow.
Lanisha: You know what, guys? I'd like to get in there and see how the air moves through that facility.
Maybe wind is playing a factor in that moving ball.
I've been wanting to go to Waverly for a long time.
Finally, we have some video that can take us there.
That's definitely a cool place to investigate with that history.
I think we should lock it in right now.
Well, that about wraps it up.
We've already locked in Waverly.
I would really like to go to Guadalajara, you guys.
I've never tackled an entire UFO fleet before, and I want to give it a shot.
I would like to do Waverly.
I think that's gonna be a really good investigation.
The Guadalajara UFO case is one I would like to investigate.
I really love the so-called living alien I presented, but since you all think that it's possibly CGI, my other choice would be the Guadalajara UFO fleet.
Settled.
I'll go to Waverly with Austin and Lanisha, and Devin, Bill, and Jael, off to Guadalajara.
Sounds good.
Bill: Let's do this.
Ben: We're in louisville, Kentucky, investigating two videos that allegedly depict paranormal activity at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
We're gonna meet with Tina Mattingly, an expert on the history of Waverly Hills.
She'll give us a tour and give us the details of this location's dark past.
Tina, I'm Ben.
Hi, Ben.
Nice to meet you.
This is Lanisha and Austin.
Lanisha: Nice to meet you.
Ben: Now, I would love to get a tour.
Where do you recommend we go? I think the best place to start out would be the body chute.
All right.
Lead the way.
We're gonna cut through this way.
Lanisha: Perfect.
So, tell us about this area.
What is it, and what was it used for? Mattingly: This is what we call the body chute.
It was used to extract the bodies out of the building.
When tuberculosis was at its height, people were dying by the minute.
So they decided to bring them down through the body chute so the patients wouldn't see them taking so many bodies out.
Lanisha: Wow.
So, this is the the children's playroom area? Yeah, this is one of the wards where the children were kept when they were sick.
Can you tell us a little bit about the paranormal activity that's been reported on this floor? We get a lot of our guests that come, and they like to interact with the children.
So they bring balls, and they get them to move quite often.
We get voices.
We get flashlights that will, on command, turn themselves on and off.
Okay.
And then over by room 502, we have gotten pictures of full-body apparitions and people standing in the windows.
Lanisha: Can you tell us a little bit about that? There was a nurse, and she had supposedly hung herself right over here, about two doors down.
Well, thank you so much for the information.
We're gonna get started, actually, right here and conduct some experiments.
I'll leave you to your investigation.
Thank you so much for your help.
We're gonna begin our investigation by taking a look at the moving-ball scenario and putting it to the test.
All right.
Before we start the experiment, I think we should eliminate all the external factors.
We've got these windows here that are open.
Why don't you grab that one? All right, guys, I notice there's similar lines right here.
This could even be where they did the experiment, so we should probably put the ball starting here.
Right about here.
Let's do this.
Narrator: Coming up on "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files" Hit it.
There's something here with me.
Who's up there?! We're gonna begin our investigation by taking a look at the moving-ball scenario and putting it to the test.
All right, guys, I notice there's similar lines right here.
This could even be where they did the experiment, so we should probably put the ball starting here.
Right about here.
All l right.
You guys, it could just be an uneven floor.
Let's take out a level and see if there's any discrepancies in the floor first before we just say "this is paranormal.
" Let's take a look.
Well, first off, look at this part right here.
Yeah, that's definitely not even, which would make sense why the ball was rolling in that direction.
But we're not getting that unpredictable, erratic changing of direction like we saw in the video.
Lanisha: When I first got here, I thought that maybe a gust of wind from outside could've been affecting the ball movement.
I think testing the wind's a good idea.
Let's open the windows back up, get wind coming in.
We'll see what this ball does.
Sounds good.
I'll grab a camera.
Here we go.
It looks about right.
Ben: Okay, ready.
In 3 Let it go.
Now, guys, in our video, you notice as soon as I let my hand off, it started following in the grooves.
In the original video, it is not moving and then just takes off.
We couldn't get ours to do that.
When we add the wind, that's a little bit different, but the wind in our case is blowing it more in a straight line as opposed to this whole kind of, like, circular pattern coming back to where it was.
It's really difficult to explain that movement that we're seeing in the video.
I say before we do anything else, let's go meet with Doug Peters, find out exactly what happened in his video.
Try and see if we can run a couple experiments for that.
Sounds good.
You must be Doug.
I'm Ben.
Nice to meet you.
This is Lanisha and Austin.
Can you take us to where you shot the video that night? Sure.
All right, let's go.
- So, we're here on the second floor, right? - Correct.
Okay.
This hallway so, this is where it was? Yeah.
Right down this hallway.
Could you walk us through that night? What led up to the video being filmed? I was invited in from the radio station.
They were just talking about, wouldn't it be nice to have a thermal camera while we're doing our walk-through on Halloween? Gave them a call and said, "hey, I've got one.
" What do you believe that it is you captured on that video that night? I would guess maybe an apparition.
I couldn't explain it.
Could you see anything with your naked eye? No.
As I was looking down the hallway, I don't see anything, and I just happen to look into my view finder and saw some movement.
How many people would you say were there in this hallway that maybe witnessed what you were seeing through the viewfinder? Nobody.
And can you tell us what kind of camera you were using that day? It was a vintage black-and-white thermal camera.
We do have a similar camera in our arsenal, so I think we'll be all right.
Doug, you've been very helpful.
All right.
- Thank you so much.
- Lanisha: Thanks, Doug.
Let's get set up for this first experiment.
- Let's get our stuff.
- Should be good.
Now that we have Doug's eyewitness account of his ghostly encounter, we're gonna run a series of tests in the same location to see if we can replicate the ghostly thermal figures captured on video.
Austin: We learned from Doug that he actually used a thermal camera when filming this video, and that's huge 'cause now we know for a fact that the apparitions seen in the original video are definitely heat signatures.
Now, you notice in Doug's video, the entities are white, which means that they're actually warmer.
It leads me to believe we might be looking at something that's living.
Doug admitted he was here with a group.
What if all he's capturing on video are simply two people walking down the hallway? That could be our first test.
We could go down to, like, the fifth door there on the left.
We can start out of frame and then just walk into the hallway.
Hopefully, it will look like the apparitions suddenly appeared.
All right, let's do it.
Ben: Right here.
All right.
Hey, guys, are you all in position? We're ready! All right, enter the hallway in 3 Enter the hallway.
All right, you're gonna keep moving.
Keep moving.
Keep moving.
Now slowly disappear.
All right, guys, I think we got the footage! Why don't you come back for a side-by-side? Austin: Hey, that's pretty good, actually.
The framing looks good.
I think we're on the right track with the heat signatures 'cause our colors are matching pretty close from our video to the original video.
One of the big issues that I see, though, is, look how much more dense we look almost compared to the original.
Look, they look almost transparent.
Ben: Yeah, I agree with Austin.
We're looking like a solid form here.
You know, if this were a case of misidentification, I don't think it's that simple.
I think we need to move on to something that will give us more manipulation over that appearing and disappearing.
I think I might have just the thing.
So, the movement and temperature of our apparition was fairly close to that in the original footage.
The bigger issue here is, the density seen in our apparition is way too solid compared to the elements of transparency that we're seeing in the original.
So we need to find out if there's a way to create a less concentrated image while controlling the way it seems to appear and then fade away.
Ben: You know, one of the most popular theories is that the apparitions were actually a result of maybe a heating duct or something that came on.
But, you know [Chuckles.]
it's obvious if you look around here, there's no operating central heating system in the facility.
It is possible that someone in his group brought something with them to keep them warm maybe something li a space heater.
We have two remote-controlled space heaters.
I think I'm gonna take them over.
I'll put them in the same place in the hallway that the apparitions seem to appear in the original video.
Austin: For this experiment, Lanisha's gonna be working the camera, Ben's gonna be directing us on the tablet, and I'm gonna be using this remote control to turn on the heaters and giving our apparition life.
You guys, look.
With the naked eye, we can definitely see that there's heaters in the hallway.
Maybe we should move them out of frame and see if it can project heat into the hallway.
That's a great idea.
So, put them inside the door.
We turn it on, have the heat blowing out.
It makes it look like the apparition's appearing.
Well, let's try.
I'll go move them.
Is that good? Looks good.
Here we go.
In 3 2 On.
Jael: In June of 2009, bystanders at an amusement park noticed a mysterious circular UFO in the sky.
A witness captured footage of the strange-looking ring before it disappeared.
Some say such rings have been reported worldwide and could represent alien portals or doors between dimensions.
So, is this footage fact or faked? The answer coming up.
Jael: When bystanders captured footage of a mysterious ring in the sky over a Virginia amusement park, a paranormal enthusiast claimed the ring was an alien portal.
But is it fact or faked? Faked.
Although the video is real enough, the alien portal later turned out to be a misidentified smoke ring created to advertise the amusement park.
For our next experiment, we're gonna see if the apparitions in the original video might just have been residual heat signatures from a portable heater.
A lot of investigators and groups use them on nights when they're cold, so we figured it's a popular theory.
We might as well test it.
Ben: Here we go.
In 3 Hit it.
On.
Yeah, I'm not getting anything over here.
You've got it right at the edge of the doorway, right? It's at the edge of the doorway.
They're both together full blast and as hot as they get.
So if we're gonna see anything, now's our best shot.
Here we go, here we go! It's either one or both of them right there on the edge of the frame.
That's actually pretty cool.
Go ahead and start panning.
Go right.
There you go.
Keep that up.
They're getting brighter definitely a lot brighter.
Austin: All right, let's kill the heat.
Let's check out that side-by-side.
Oh, this is a lot better.
When we first had the heaters in the hallway, you could see the heaters before we even turned them on.
So this is good.
We're getting a mirror reflection on the actual floor there, which is really kind of cool.
We do see two different apparitions at one point, though.
An issue I'm having is that ours don't seem to come out as far as in the original video.
But at least we're getting them appearing out in the hallway and then disappearing gradually back in that's huge.
We could take different heaters.
We could try different things with it.
But we need to take a look at the overall picture.
I mean, Waverly Hills is just replete with accounts of paranormal activity.
Every person I've talked to that's come here has had some type of experience.
We should do our own night investigation, see what we can find.
Let's pack up our gear.
Let's do a night investigation right here at Waverly.
Well, guys, because this place is so huge, I think we should split up.
I'll go check out the body chute first.
I'll work my way down there.
I'm gonna take the flare with me.
I'm also gonna be doing emf readings and see what's going on.
I'm ready to head up to the children's ward, and I'll take the emf detector and sweep room 502 where that nurse committed suicide.
All right, guys, I'll be your eyes in the field.
This place is so big.
We have five I.
R.
cameras covering a lot of the area at Waverly Hills.
We have one out front exactly where we did the interview, covering the full front of the building.
We have one at 502 and the children's ward, so I'll be able to see you.
Ben, this is the death chute.
And this is where Doug Peters actually captured the apparitions on video, so I'll have my eyes on that, focused.
You guys, make sure you stay in contact.
This place is huge.
Yeah, it is.
You guys ready to go green? - Let's do it.
- We are ready.
Go green.
Hey, Austin, I'm heading up to the fifth floor.
Copy that.
Be safe.
Hi, Timmy.
Just came to talk to you.
Ben: [ Echoing .]
Hello? It's getting colder.
I'm now in the body chute, Austin.
How do you read? I read you pretty clear, bud.
Over.
I'm gonna sit here right now and start an EVP session.
Copy that.
Hey, Timmy, I'm just gonna set up my digital recorder.
You can talk to me through that, or you can move this ball for me.
Is there something that you want us to know? If you're here with me, can you move this ball for me? [ Gasps .]
Austin, as soon as I started asking Timmy questions, this ball started moving on its own and in different directions.
And there's no breeze in here.
Lanisha, I'm seeing the ball move on the I.
R.
cam right now.
This flashlight is set very, very sensitive, and sometimes it can be used as a way to communicate.
All you have to do is to touch the end of the light to make it turn on.
I'm gonna set it right here.
You can turn that on if any of these responses are yes.
Is this what you call home? All right, I'm gonna leave this ball for you.
Austin: What the hell was that? [ Tapping .]
Who went up there? Hello? Austin to team are you guys getting anything? Lanisha: The emf detector is doing something weird.
I'm getting this really crazy reading right here where the nurse hung herself.
Are you by any electrical cords, anything like that? No, there's nothing around me.
That's a negative.
Holy You guys, something is moving the ball right now.
Guys, I just watched the ball roll out of the corner and out the door! all right, Timmy, I'm gonna leave this ball for you.
Holy You guys, something is moving the ball right now.
Guys, I just watched the ball roll out of the corner and out the door! Ben: Whoa, whoa, emf meter's going off, man going off, peaking! [ Metal clanks .]
[ Metal clanks .]
Who's up there?! Who's here?! All right.
Welcome back.
Bill: Good to be here.
So, we went to louisville, Kentucky, to the Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
Well, you guys remember the mysterious moving-ball video, right? So, of course, we wanted to test that this might actually be something to do with the wind, you know, being a factor in the movement.
These are the results that we got.
Check it out.
Devin: Okay.
It looks like the wind is blowing the ball in one direction.
So, due to the fact that we weren't able to replicate what we see in the original video, we then decided to move on to our next video.
We wanted to test if these apparitions might have just been misidentified from a portable heater.
Take a look at what we got.
Austin: That's pretty close.
I mean, the only problem is that it looks like the heat was coming from one small spot, which gave you one apparition.
So we decided to launch to a full night investigation.
So, during our night investigation, Austin was at base camp, and I headed up to the fifth floor to the children's ward.
And while I was there, I conducted an EVP session.
This is what I got, guys.
If you can, just say something for me, okay? [ Low moaning .]
Ben: Let's hear it again.
If you can, just say something for me, okay? [ Low moaning .]
It's almost like a gasp.
Or like someone's trying to say something.
Either way, we're hearing breathing that's not coming from you, Lanisha.
While this was going on, I went down to the body chute by myself.
I took out a flashlight.
I started asking questions to see if it would activate the flashlight.
It responded almost on cue.
Is this what you call home? - That's huge! - Jael: Are you kidding me? So, while this was going on, I started to hear some very strange things down in the body chute.
Sounded like it was coming from the top.
Who's up there?! I went running up there full speed, turned the corner to the entrance.
I didn't see anything there.
And by then, I had left the children's ward.
But before I left, I placed a ball there for Timmy.
And I had an I.
R.
camera set up in the children's ward.
I had a visual of the ball that Lanisha left in the corner.
It wasn't moving.
Well, it started to.
Check out the video.
Bill: Look at that! And it was right against the wall! Now, this is the ball that you left? Yes.
And if you look again, the weirdest thing is, is that there's a ball in the room right next to it, and it didn't move at all the entire time.
It's almost like the ball that you placed knew where it was going.
So, what's the verdict? Is Waverly Hills haunted? When it comes down to the experiences and evidence that we gathered that night, I'm gonna say Waverly Hills is haunted.
With what Lanisha experienced with the interaction, the ball, and what was going on with me, you know, down in the body chute and the things that I experienced firsthand, I think I can definitively say there is something definitely unexplained happening at Waverly Hills.
So, tell me about Mexico.
Well, as you guys know, we went to investigate this incredible video showing hundreds of UFOs in the skies over Guadalajara.
So, guys, here we are in Guadalajara.
What happened in June of 2004 was a rare daytime sighting that still baffles experts to this day.
Ufo researchers immediately took note of the large conglomeration towards the middle of the formation.
They theorize that this could be a mother ship that's controlling the movement of the entire armada.
But skeptics aren't buying that.
They think that the origins of the video are way too hard to pin down, and they also think that the UFOs are possibly some kind of naturally occurring phenomenon like maybe a flock of birds in the sky.
Let's go meet Miguel Aguila, our videographer, and David Ramirez, the eyewitness that was with him on that day, and get their firsthand account of the video that was shot in June of 2004.
Miguel, David, hola.
Hola.
Yo soy Jael.
Can he tell us about that day and what he was filming with this camera? [ Speaking Spanish .]
[ Speaking Spanish .]
He was in his backyard, and he said that he was scanning the sky.
[ Speaking Spanish .]
And he looked over to the east, and he saw a couple of objects that looked metallic.
But they also had parts that were shaded.
Like, below, they looked darker.
Interesting.
Were they moving? Sí.
[ Speaking Spanish .]
He said that the objects were coming from the east, moving South.
And what does he think he was looking at that day? [ Speaking Spanish .]
At first when he saw them, he thought maybe they were just balloons.
That's when he went to get his camera, and he went to a good vantage point to film.
They were moving pretty slowly, but the most curious thing about it was that it seemed very coordinated, like they were all going in the same motion.
He feels that these are extraterrestrial UFOs.
Can he estimate how many objects were in this armada? [ Speaking Spanish .]
Okay.
So, he said that there was at least 200 or more.
Is this the camera that he used to shoot the UFO video? [ Speaking Spanish .]
May we borrow that camera for our experiments? [ Speaking Spanish .]
Okay, great, yeah.
Well, it's a lot of good information.
Muchas gracias.
Ciao.
All right, guys, well You know what? Let's see if we can re-create this.
Devin: We got a lot of work to do.
We do have a lot of work to do.
- This is perfect.
- It is.
Great.
One of the more popular online theories is that the UFOs that we see in Miguel's video is centered around a totally natural explanation that maybe the UFOs are simply a flock of migrating birds.
It's entirely possible that if the flock was flying high enough in a coordinated pattern that it could give us the same aerial display that we're seeing in the video.
Amateur pigeon racing is really popular in this area.
It's really possible that what Miguel recorded that day was an unannounced amateur bird race.
The trick, however, is gonna be getting enough birds all up in the sky at once.
We're gonna need birds.
Yes, we are! [ Laughs .]
Well, I talked to a local pigeon-racing association, and they're willing to help us out.
Perfect.
Wow, look at all them.
Back up a little more.
Yes.
Ha ha.
These are Bravia pigeons.
Now, they're bred to fly long distances and then return home using bio-magnetism, which is essentially an internal GPS that senses the magnetic poles.
They will always return home.
It's perfectly safe.
They're bred for this.
Now, you guys, this is a specially designed system that releases all the cages at once.
So the racing pigeons all fly out at the same time.
That's the only way we're gonna get 250 birds up in the air.
This ledge would make an ideal release point.
But the thing is, Miguel didn't say that he could see the wings flapping.
So, Jael, you should head down off the hill to a vantage point, and we'll release the birds.
Maybe the distance from the camera from the ledge will sort of obscure the shape of the wings.
Jael: I see what you're saying.
I'll go grab the camera, and, also, since there will be a lot of birds overhead, - I'll grab a hooded jacket, as well.
- That's a good idea.
Devin, you release the birds.
Jael, keep those cameras rolling.
Perfect.
I will.
Bill: If Miguel's video is simply a misidentified flock of birds, this test should prove it.
You almost ready to go? Hey! Yeah, Jael! Do you have us framed up? Framed up, camera's ready to roll! The birds are ready! Okay, on 3 Release birds! Whoo-hoo! Bill: We're testing the theory that the UFO fleet seen in the original video is simply a misidentified flock of birds.
Devin and I are gonna be releasing 250 Bravia pigeons at the same time while Jael records from the vantage point at the bottom of the hill.
Framed up, cameras ready to roll.
Okay! On 3 Release birds! Whoo-hoo! Yes! Yes! Keep going, keep going! Wow! Look at them! Wow! Yes! Even with the naked eye, I'm seeing birds.
Even a couple of the white birds out there, they do look a little bit dark.
Okay, you know what? Let's get Jael up here, and let's do a comparison.
Hey, Jael! Let's do a side-by-side! All right, I'll be right up! Okay! That was fun.
What did it look like from your vantage point? Well, let me show you.
Check this out.
There it is.
Oh, wow, look at that.
Pretty good, huh? Yeah, it's totally different from the vantage point.
Well, absolutely, and I had the ability to zoom in.
You know what's crazy is that when you zoom on it and they start to fill the frame, it looks like a lot more.
The only problem is, the birds aren't really flying in unison the way the objects do in the original.
I mean, they are, but they keep morphing into different shapes.
The birds are flying together, but the whole group is traveling in a circle until they find their way home.
Our bird test was really cool, and I could see why people would theorize that that's what it might be, 'cause it puts several objects in the sky at the same time.
But the birds move just too fast and in a chaotic manner.
Our birds did a great job, but after reviewing the footage, it showed that they're just birds.
So we're gonna have to move on to test that possibly this was a hoax.
We have to try everything.
Bill: For this next test, we're gonna see if it's possible to hoax this video By floating 250 ping-pong balls on the reflective surface of this large pool.
Jael: Wow.
This is great.
This is, like, a perfect amount of water surface to get a reflection.
And look, right up there Ideal vantage point.
Whoa! Check it out, guys.
Look at this.
Jael: Ha ha.
We're pretty high up.
That's what I call a vantage point.
If we are looking at this all wrong and it is a hoax, then maybe it's not the sky at all that the UFOs were seen in the original video.
Maybe it is a reflection of a pool and there's little white orbs like ping-pong balls floating around.
The natural reflectivity of the water does mirror the sky and the clouds overhead, so the objects may look like they're flying across the sky instead of floating on the water.
You know what, guys? I'm actually feeling some wind picking up already, and we can't rely on these ping-pong balls to actually have the same drift.
But we should try to have them as still as possible.
And if we're gonna really replicate Miguel's video, we're gonna need at least 250 ping-pong balls in the water.
Let's get to work.
Little bit of dry ice here, guys.
Just a little bit? And I got some plastic sheeting here.
Take a look, guys.
And a mother ship.
- Hey, that looks great.
- It's perfect.
When you look at the ripples in the pool, you can see the wind is actually coming from this direction here.
So I think we need to set up our stands on either end of the pool and one in the middle.
And then we can go ahead and clip the plastic sheeting.
Across this way.
Yeah, across this way to block that.
That way, we can get this water to settle a bit.
Sounds good.
Devin will be simulating cloud formations using dry ice and a fog machine.
Jael will be 10 meters up on that platform, recording the entire formation using Miguel's original camera.
Okay, let's get ready to start.
Jael, here's a bucket for you.
So when you go up with the camera, you can have a handful of UFOs with you.
Bill, you and I can use these cones, and we can spread the ping-pong balls throughout the pool.
I'm gonna head up to the vantage point.
Cool.
Let's get over there.
Devin: Our windscreen is in place, and Jael is in position.
Bill and I are gonna make sure we get an even dispersal throughout the pool.
Jael: You ready to start seeding the pool?! - Absolutely! - Let's do it! All right, here we go.
Ufo! It's still a little sparse.
We need more.
I'm gonna try to throw some from underneath the diving board.
Yeah! Awesome! Bill: Give me some cloud, Devin.
The filters on the side have baskets that keep the dry ice near the surface, and that will help push our smoke across the surface, hopefully.
So, dry ice going in the basket.
Bill: Jael, how's that looking? Jael: It looks pretty amazing.
Devin: Look, but the wind's taking it.
Is it matching Miguel's original footage? Do I need to toss any more ping-pong balls? Yes, please toss in a few more! Here you go.
I think I've gotten enough footage.
I think we should do a side-by-side comparison.
You got it.
Let's take a look at what I shot.
Oh, wow.
Well, let's look what's matching.
I mean, right away, I can see the similarity in the shape of the objects.
Well, definitely.
The ping-pong balls match.
And then we had the mother ship, which was a lot larger.
And they're actually drifting in the same manner.
I mean, just looking at this visually, I see ripples, and I don't see enough clouds.
It's not quite matching the original video.
So we got the color.
We got the shape.
We got the general organization of all the objects matching.
What isn't matching is the water.
Right, not to mention, look at how the smoke dissipates so quickly.
It doesn't have that cloud formation like here.
It's true.
Bill: The ping-pong balls were a clever idea.
The shape was good.
The way they moved across the water was good.
But the water itself, we couldn't stop from rippling.
Plus, our simulated clouds weren't convincing.
If this was a hoax, I don't think it was done this way.
It's time to move on to another experiment.
Another popular explanation for what we're seeing in Miguel's original video is that the so-called UFO fleet is simply a misidentification of a mass release of balloons.
I love this church.
Guys, you know, there is another plausible explanation for Miguel's UFO-fleet video, and that's balloons.
I completely agree with you, particularly because they do release balloons for lots of celebrations weddings, anniversaries, religious holidays.
Well, in order to re-create the original video, we're gonna need to use at least 250 balloons and release them up into the sky so they all float in a giant cluster.
And I think that white balloons in particular are gonna stand out in the sky.
So we'll use these - but we'll fill them with helium.
- Perfect.
We'll hold all the balloons down, and we'll house them under a breakaway mesh-net system so they can all float up at the same time.
I think, actually, this is the ideal release point because we're pretty much free of obstructions.
So if we aimed the camera straight up, we'll see just the sky, and then we'll see our armada of balloons.
All right, this is gonna be fun, guys.
Let's go set up.
This is what's gonna hold down all of our balloons.
We'll use these c-stands as a frame.
Just pull the cord, cut it, and they'll all go up.
Bill: Excellent.
Devin, you ready to blow up all those balloons? Keep going.
Give me more! Yes.
So, the guys and I are filling up our net with balloons.
When we release these, hopefully they will re-create the unidentified objects in the original footage.
I've also made a cluster of about six balloons that we're gonna add to the center of the netting, and hopefully, that will create the mother ship.
All right, you guys, so, this is our mesh-release system.
I have all three ribbon spin right in the center.
I'm gonna snip it.
Now, either one of you guys are gonna be on either end, and you pull on the ribbon.
I cut the ribbon right in the middle, and then all the balloons will release at the same time.
Now, Jael, you're gonna have to run your camera pretty quick 'cause they're gonna fly up pretty high.
Got it.
Let's do this.
All right, let's do it.
- You ready to do this? - I'm ready.
Once I cut this, it's gonna go pretty quick.
I've got my camera right here next to my foot.
As soon as we release, I'm gonna pick it up and start rolling.
Got to do a 3-2-1 countdown, and you're gonna snip, and then you and I are gonna pull.
Okay, you ready? On 3 2 Bill: We're gonna release 250 white reflective biodegradable balloons at once.
I want to see how this test turns out.
You ready to do this? Once I cut this, it's gonna go pretty quick.
Okay, you ready? On 3 2 Release armada! There they go! Jael: Guys, I found the mother ship! I see it right there! We got 250 biodegradable balloons, then we stuffed them into nets so that we could do one single release of all the balloons at the same time.
Check out the results.
Man: Huh.
Lanisha: Oh, okay.
Wait, is that the original video? No, that's our test.
That's our replication.
Devin: Some things that you might notice is that our balloons are not quite as white.
Well, it's just because of the time in the day.
It ended up getting a little bit cloudy.
Other than that, the shape, the size, the movement all of that is spot-on.
Jael: Pretty good, huh? Ben: That's a really good job, guys.
I can even see the mother ship in the center.
So, based on the results that we all just saw here, unless somebody comes forward with more information about the objects seen in the original video, we're convinced that the UFOs over Guadalajara was nothing more than balloons.
Awesome job, guys.
Great replication.
