Felicity s01e14 Episode Script

Todd Mulcahy (2)

Previously on "Felicity" I'm Todd Mulcahy, old friend of Felicity's.
You came to New York to see Felicity? I came to kiss her.
I'm not interested.
So thank you, but could you please, you know, stop calling me and sending me things? I lost this battle.
I accept that.
But we will kiss.
I am down but I am not in any way Todd out.
Oh, my God! Any drugs or alcohol? - No medications, no - My pocket.
What? Left jeans.
- Okay, what's going on with the leg? - Plus he's got - sustained a, uh, fracture of his right It's a note you gave me when you were 12.
I'm sorry, miss, but you're gonna have to wait here.
This is a restricted area.
Felicity: So this is what I wrote to Todd Mulcahy when I was 12- "Dear Todd "I'm sitting in Mr.
Dorfman's human-biology class.
"I know summer school is supposed to be boring, "but this is worse.
"I keep thinking how happy I am that I met you.
"You ask me smart questions, "things no one's ever asked me before "including me.
"I guess I could be an artist if I wanted to, "but that would probably mean my dad would never talk to me again.
" And I drew a little smiley face after that.
Then I wrote, "I know one day when I grow up, "I'll have to make a decision - if I'm gonna be an artist or a doctor.
" "I'm just happy that day isn't today.
" "Anyway, to answer your question you asked me on the bus, "yes, I can go to McDonald's after class, "if you want to.
From Felicity.
" Man: I'll be down there for about 15 minutes Girl, can you believe this?! We got in! Do you know what this means? We are smart.
We are two smart, confident young women.
- We still have the interview part.
- Which we're gonna ace, and then we're gonna be in.
We're gonna be in the toughest seminar in the department.
Peter: He doesn't listen.
Teacher: Peter, if you don't give him this chance, - I think you're depriving him - Felicity: Come in.
of an opportunity.
Hey.
Have you ever seen Dead Poets Society? Yeah, I have.
Um This movie is so good.
- To be your father.
- You're eating his cookies.
Read this.
Teacher: Peter Peter I thought Todd was so annoying, you know? I thought he was just a pest.
- Did you write this? - But if I would have just listened to him, if I hadn't been so defensive, I bet he never would have been hit by a bus.
That accident was my fault.
Felicity, come on.
You know that's not true.
Look at this.
These are good.
Did Todd draw these? I did.
You know, I came to New York making all this noise about how much I didn't want to follow in my father's footsteps.
And here I am, you know, right behind him again.
Somehow, between getting here and right now, I've just lost track.
Well, you have an excellent boyfriend.
This-this strange guy from my past just shows up, starts criticizing how I'm living my life, and I think he's right.
Felicity Porter? I have only one question why should you be considered for this seminar? Well, my grades are - are really good.
I'm, u-uh I'm I'm thinking about maybe being an artist.
But that's not what you asked me, so Okay, you want to know why I should be chosen for your seminar.
I guess I could say that there was a time when I genuinely wanted to be a doctor.
But I just - I can't remember why.
Miss Porter, typically, it's not my job to help students remember why they're in my office talking to me.
I wish you well, and, uh I'm removing your name from consideration for the seminar.
- Okay, look - No, l-I was just When you're looking at me, what are you thinking? What do you mean? Do I look fat to you? Now, be honest, okay, or I will never trust you, okay? Okay.
Look at me and concentrate.
Am I fat? Well You're a little Yeah, a little bit.
But y-you're not fat.
I didn't mean fat.
Uh, "fat"'s not the right word.
I meant, uh, you just could afford to lose, a couple of pounds.
- Come here.
Oh, no one has been honest like you.
- Oh, well, y- you're welcome.
- You don't understand.
In my family, brutal honesty is the most valuable commodity.
That and arugula.
- Well, you're trying to lose weight? - Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I used to be on the track team, so I know a lot of really good diets that might help.
You must look so good in running shorts.
Uh, the key is low carbs.
Carbs are my worst enemy, I can't even tell you.
- Oh, look! Julie's here! - Oh.
Okay, I treasure your candor but put your hat on.
- I will.
I'll put it on.
- Okay.
- I will.
Hey, what's going on? I just sent the tape.
You did? I put it in the mailbox, and all of a sudden, I just, I wanted it back, so I went and found three mailmen one was a mailwoman and nobody would open the box.
Now Carol's gonna get the tape, she's gonna know who I am, and that's ultimately what I wanted anyway, so You look really cute in your uniform.
Oh um, yeah, he keeps wanting me to wear the hat, but I hate the hat.
I sort of refuse to wear the hat.
Just tell me that it's gonna be okay with Carol.
Yeah, it's gonna be okay.
It is.
Are you allowed to kiss on the job? Well no but Elena: What were the exact words you used? Something like, "I'm thinking of becoming an artist.
" You said that to Dr.
McGrath? Are you dumb?! Maybe I am.
Look, just stop beating me up about this.
I'm gonna kick your ass! Do you realize you just made the biggest mistake of your life? Thanks.
Where are you going? What'd the doctor say? They don't know.
They said the transfusions went well, and if he does all right tonight, they can move him into critical care tomorrow.
He can have visitors there.
I don't like hospitals.
- You know why? - For every really obvious reason? The smell - smell that.
Whatever it is, it makes me sick.
You'd think I'd hate hospitals spending so much time in one, you know, when my mother was sick.
But I love them.
Feels like home here.
When I was 12, I spent a week in a hospital.
I was in the tree.
We had this giant tree in our backyard.
And my brother came out and said that Dad was looking for me.
I told him I was on my way down, but Ryan picked up a baseball and threw it at me.
Hit me in the face and broke my nose, and I fell off the branch that I was on and landed on my right arm broke that, too.
They thought I had internal bleeding.
They kept - What? Your brother's got a good arm.
It really isn't funny.
I'm sorry.
You know I'm kidding.
I'm sorry.
That image of you getting hit in the face and falling out of a tree admit that's funny.
It wasn't very funny at the time.
Hey.
- What are you guys doing here? - What are you doing here? I was in the Maternity Ward refilling my disposable-camera vending machines.
Why? What's going on? - You know a guy in there? - Yeah, Todd.
Got hit by a bus.
- Todd, the guy that came over the other night? - Yeah.
- The guy that made that chicken? - Yeah.
- That was really good chicken.
- That was good chicken.
- Is he gonna be okay? - They don't know.
Elena: What are you doing? Well, he's gonna get better, and when he does, we'll give him this picture.
Unless, of course, he doesn't, in which case that's pretty morbid.
What if he dies? He's not gonna die.
Smile.
*'Cause * * you're * * tres jolie * * You're much more than tres jolie * * to me * * Oh, can't you see * * there's nobody else for me * * Cherie * * Cherie? * - * You are * - Uh, excuse me.
Hi.
- * so magnifique * - C-Can I help you? I'm waiting for Richard.
- * It would be so tragique * - Uh-huh.
Thank you.
Richard I need to talk to you.
Um, I'm in a meeting.
Yeah, this is important.
Excuse me.
What?! Who are these women? They're potential clients, as if it's any of your business.
Clients of what? And - And why are they wearing gloves? Because of their hands.
Their hands are their livelihood.
- Let me guess you're here to shut me down.
- Shut what down? * Oh, can't you see * "Prime Digits hand modeling agency"? There's a lot of money in hands.
Is this a joke? Ask Charlotte if it's a joke.
Her hands are big! Maybelline, Ritz crackers, Charmin You've seen her hands touch everything.
Okay, you can't run a business from your dorm room.
It's against university policy.
Maybe the typical student can't, but I got news for you.
the student that knows that his R.
A.
is fraternizing with one of his advisees can do whatever the hell he wants.
- Is everything all right here? - Yes, Charlotte.
Everything's fine.
Excuse us? Hi.
Hi.
I-I 'm sorry.
I was just watching.
That's okay.
Is, um, this for a class? Dimensional painting - Wishman.
Wishman's the teacher? Yep.
Is he any good? She's great.
You a freshman? Uh is it that obvious? Yeah, you sort of got that wide-eyed thing going on.
First time in the studio? I'm so embarrassed.
- No, it's cool.
It's nice.
It's good in here.
Couple of years ago, I had that same look.
Do you know if, uh, there are any penings available in any of these classes, like, if I wanted to, uh, you know, maybe transfer in? All the studio classes are filled till the end of the year.
You should apply for next semester.
Yeah.
Just seems like a million years away.
It goes by pretty fast.
That looks really nice.
Thanks.
Hey.
Um, the studio's open all the time.
I mean, if you wanted to hang out, um, use some of the materials, I won't say anything.
Really? Yeah.
Hey, have you seen Felicity? I cannot wait for the day you stop asking me that question.
Is that a "yes"? I haven't seen her.
- Did Todd die yet? - Oh, that's nice.
It's not like I want him to die.
I'm just asking.
Uh, as far as I know, he's, he's making a recovery.
This lock is stuck, Mr.
R.
A.
Well, I'll report it.
Look, if - if you see Felicity - we have a date tonight, will you tell her that I'm looking for her? Oh.
She blew you off? - No, she didn't blow me off.
- Sounds like she blew you off.
- Well, she didn't blow me off.
- That's a really bad sign.
If you see her, tell her I'll be in my room.
I was telling my husband about you.
What'd you say? Just that there's this new girl in the office who reminds me of me.
- Really? - Yeah, how you play the guitar.
So, my husband goes down to the storage room and brings up my old guitar from college.
- Did you play? - For hours.
I'm supposed to be working on the Sullivan project, and then, instead, I, sat in the living room all day trying to remember my chords.
Can I give you a lift? Um, sure.
I have some books on guitar if you want to borrow them.
Oh, you know, I'd love to, but I don't think I'd ever get anything done.
- Oh, God.
- Oh, no, I'm sorry.
Um I think I'm just - I'm gonna walk.
You sure? Yeah.
All right.
I'll see you tomorrow.
* The look in your eyes tonight * * tells me you're leaving * * And I can't believe my heart * * It started bleeding * * No more pride * * left here inside * * No angel * * standing by me * * Must've been blind * * to let you back inside * * Must've been crazy * * to fall for that same old line * * There are words * * that I can't seem to find * * And I hope you'll pray for me * * like I'm praying for you * * And I am done with this * * Done with this * Man I know what that feels like.
Bad night, huh? So, what's going on? I'm going to see Todd.
The doctor just called.
They said he's stabilizing.
Did you get any of my messages? - I just got home.
I haven't checked the machine.
- Yeah l-I thought - I thought you might have gone to the hospital last night, so I went there to look for you, but you weren't there.
I couldn't find you anywhere, and we sort of had plans.
Look at these.
I went to this, uh, this studio at the art school.
I just drew - I mean, all night, I just drew.
It was like I couldn't stop.
Wow.
Uh, what's that? Some stuff for Todd - you know, stuff he used to like.
I hope I got the comic book right.
So we sort of switched places.
- What do you mean? - Now I'm the one leaving the messages, a-and Todd's the one you're running off to be with.
I'm not running off to be with him.
I mean, he's in the hospital.
I know.
It's not Todd.
I- I don't have a problem with Todd.
It's just - You're being distant.
I'm sorry if I'm being distant.
It's just I mean, all I was doing was drawing.
I don't care that you were drawing.
- I just need - - You don't care? Okay, if you're going through some thing, okay, l-I need you to tell me.
Not every problem can be solved by me running to you all wide-eyed and then asking you for advice.
I mean, there are some things you cannot help me with.
You guys aren't breaking up, are ya? 'Cause that-that would really screw up my life.
You know what? Yeah, maybe we are.
Hi.
Thanks for coming to visit me.
That - That's very nice.
I would have come sonner but, you were still in surgery.
Yeah.
Apparently, I fractured my liver.
You know you can fracture your liver? l- I brought you some things.
Some, uh Oh, l-I used to love those.
And these.
Oh Whoppers Iook And I couldn't remember - did you read Vigilante or The Punisher? Oh, definitely The Punisher.
this is awesome - The Punisher, Whoppers goldfish Thank you.
You're welcome.
So l-I Wanted you to know how much your coming here means to me.
Because of you, I've been thinking about things I haven't thought about for a long time.
I just got hit by a bus over you.
Can I ask one favor? You want a kiss.
We'll know immediately.
It'll either be electric and it'll bridge all the time lost between us, or it'll be nothing.
And I'll go back to Ohio a physically decimated but spiritually satisfied young man.
So if you're still on the fence Please.
What is that? Todd? Todd? Oh, my Go- Todd, are you - Oh, God! - Mr.
Mulcahy? - Uh, help.
Mr.
Mulcahy?! - What happened? - I don't know.
I-I kissed him, and l-I don't know.
Get a crash cart in here! - What's going on? - I don't know.
His pulse is Miss, I'm gonna need you to wait outside, okay? All right, let's intubate him! Up to 15 liters.
- Get a crash cart! - Got it.
On 3- 1 2 3.
Good.
Okay, let's start CPR.
- Okay.
- Do you want me to do another CBC? Okay, stand by.
Clear! - You'd better get respiratory down here.
- Nothing.
Okay, continue CPR.
I'm not getting a pulse.
He must be bleeding out.
Let's get him back into the O.
R.
Stat.
- Let's go! Go! - All right, hurry! Excuse me.
Is this Todd Mulcahy's room? Who - Who are you? I'm his fiancee.
What? You must be Felicity.
You don't respect the machine.
What? If you don't respect the machine, you will never get the quality mochas.
I respect the machine.
You clearly have contempt for it.
Turn the knob the way you would want to be turned - if you were to be a knob.
Look I don't drink coffee, but you will never find a better mocha maker.
Thank you.
And put your hat on! I'm going to kill you! There you go.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Hi.
Hey.
Something happen with Todd? - No, no.
Uh, Todd's apparently stabilized.
- Good.
Yeah, I need to know what Felicity was like in high school.
- What she was like? - Yeah.
- Well, uh we weren't really friends in high school.
Because I think she's going through through some mid-freshman crisis, you know? I mean, as long as I've known her, she's been this - this pre-med workaholic, you know, and then this guy Todd shows up, and - I don't know - like, reminds her or something of what she used to be like.
You want a coffee on the house? Yeah, a-a mocha.
Mocha.
I can sort of relate.
Julie's going through that whole thing with her mom.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah, she came back to the apartment last night, and she told me that she saw her mom had that tape that she sent her.
So I asked her, "What happened next?" - right? Pretty innocent question.
She looks at me, and she says, "Nothing.
" Just like that "Nothing.
" And then she barely talked to me the whole night.
It's just kind of nuts.
What's going on with these women? I don't know.
I don't know.
I really don't.
- They're - They're acting a little crazy, right? They're acting a little crazy.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Mmm, you make an excellent mocha.
Thank you.
Thanks.
No.
No, thanks.
I know all about you, you know? You do? Yeah.
Before Todd left Ohio, he told me what he was up to.
"I'm gonna resolve this Felicity thing once and for all," he said.
He'd been pretty depressed for about six months.
When he told me he saw you over Christmas, it was like he woke up again.
At first, I was all mad, you know - my fiance wanting to take off and see if he was really meant to be with another woman.
But then I realized if Todd is really mine all I could do was let him go.
He could have lied.
He could have just taken off.
But he told me about you.
So I've got a question for you.
Do you love my Todd? No.
You swear to God? I mean, I'm - I like him.
I'm grateful to him.
But I mean, he's all yours.
'Cause I really love him, you know? I mean, he might be a little eccentric, but you'll never find a bigger heart.
Rebecca, the doctor's ready to see you now.
Oh, God.
Oh, God.
W- I'm too terrified.
What if they didn't save him? What if something happened? - You want me to go with you? - No.
No, I can do this.
I can do this.
Yeah? I remember now why I love medicine, and I would love for my name to be put back on that list.
- I want to be in your seminar.
- I thought you were an artist bursting to get out.
Doctor I want to be in your seminar.
So you're committed to being a physician? That's not the commitment I was looking for.
Wait a minute.
Are you telling me that I'm required to commit to becoming a physician in order to be eligible for your seminar? I thought that was implicit.
Well I mean, excuse me for saying so, but that's ridiculous.
I'm - I'm really sorry, but it is.
I- What I remembered - the thing that made me come back here is that medicine isn't just about research or grades or making your parents happy.
It's the most obvious thing in the world, but I lost it somehow, and Being a doctor is about people.
I see.
Good.
Thank you.
I mean, l-l-I will commit.
I will commit 100% to this seminar.
But do I still want to be an artist? Will I pursue that as well? Yes.
But I will not let it interfere in our classwork.
Finished? I know one day I'm going to have to make that decision whether I want to be a doctor or an artist.
I'm just happy that that day is not today.
I'll consider that.
Meanwhile, we're still on our way out.
Julie can I talk to you? I got your tape.
I listened to it.
I know it was really stupid for me to take this job, I just, I wanted to see you.
So I hope that you're not mad at me.
- Julie - And I was gonna tell you yesterday, and l-I realize that I should have called.
And I know that I have Put you in a really awkward position.
So I don't blame you if you hate me.
I'm not your mother.
There's been a mistake.
I never put a baby up for adoption.
I paid the investigator, and they gave me your name and your address.
I I don't know what to tell you.
You have the wrong woman.
Wait.
No.
Look at me.
I wish there was something I could do to help.
But, um just wait, 'cause I I've - Carol, I really think that I am your daughter.
Julie, you don't forget something like this.
You don't forget putting a baby up for adoption.
But you played guitar.
Julie I'm sorry.
I'm not your mother.
I'm I'm just not.
No, I'm sorry.
'Cause, um well, I just I took this job because of you.
So, um, I'm just gonna go tell Tina that I'm - I'm not gonna come back.
Julie Good luck, honey.
Oh, could you, uh, help me kind of Oh, yes.
Um Here you go.
Oh, here.
I'll get those.
Thanks.
Have a have a safe trip home.
Yeah, I guess the odds of our van getting hit by a bus is pretty slim, huh? I'm - I'm sorry.
Don't be.
I'm not.
I-I think I needed this push to get my life back on track.
Yeah.
Yeah, me too.
Hey, what ever happened with that seminar? Yeah, I don't - I don't think that's gonna work out.
So, uh - Which is - Which is okay, you know? Felicity Yeah? You know, I think that kiss was pretty damn good.
Okay, you need to go home.
Okay.
* Silence happens again * Come in.
I, uh I wanted to apologize for the other day, talking to you that way.
I had just seen a doctor save someone's life, so I got a little carried away.
I could drop it in the faculty mailbox, or, uh, you can take it with you now.
Seminar begins on Thursday.
Okay.
I will, uh see you on Thursday, then.
Hey.
Uh, what's this? I dismantled the satellite, And I put the whole "hand modeling agency" thing on hold.
- Why? - Well, with you and Felicity on the way out, you know, I figured I'd better get my act together.
Noel um can I talk to you for a second? You should really go talk to her, try and work things out.
Leave that up there.
Hey.
Um before you say anything, l- I took one of your, uh, sketches, and I scanned it into my computer.
I- I don't know i-if you've ever used a computer to - to draw before, but with that, um, Photoshop program - the one that-that Todd helped me with, it's pretty amazing.
I've got this, uh, this drawing tablet.
So, anyway, uh, you can use my computer whenever you want - you know that.
Wait, wait.
Um What? Is Richard watching? Yeah.
Okay, I'm gonna yell at you.
Just go - Just go with it, okay? - Mm-hmm.
- Okay, fine! Fine! I-lf that's the way you're gonna be, if that's who you really are, then I don't want to be a part of it.
I don't want to be around you.
It's over.
I want out.
No, don't look at me like that! I can't deal with you when you're like this! He's gone.
Excellent.
- We're in the lounge.
- Yeah, I don't care.
* Just getting by * * That's when I thank God for you * - * There's snow on my windshield * - Sally: Dear Felicity well, I'm glad you got that seminar - - * I crack my window open * - you and Elena.
* and think of you asleep and warm * But mostly, I'm happy you remembered you're an artist.
* Forgot I'd come back to the ground * It's funny.
I've been thinking about what you said * With my ears ringing * how one day, you'll have to figure out what you are.
I'll try not to make a sound * But then I look at myself.
I'm almost 34.
And I'm still trying to figure out who I am.
* I'm just getting by * * That's when I see myself a fool * * When I'm just getting by * - So maybe that search isn't just something that happens in college.
* That's when I thank God for you * It's a search that continues the rest of our lives.
* That's when I thank God for you *
