Flashpoint s04e05 Episode Script

The Better Man

What, what have you done, huh? Warren! Huh? What have you done? Warren! Warren! Put your weapon down, or you will be our target.
Do you understand? Back off! Back off, Greg.
Back it off! Help me! Eddie.
I've got the solution.
He's not gonna shoot.
He's not hearing you! He's not hearing.
Wordy! Wordy! Hey there, ladybug.
What're you doing up? I had a bad dream.
Oh no.
Why are you shaving? Oh, I've gotta go into work early.
What happened in your dream? I don't wanna talk about it.
Why not? 'Cause it'll make me have the dream all over again.
And that's why you can't sleep either, 'case you dream about it?? And you wish you could talk about it 'cause that always makes it better.
That's a tough one.
Tell you what.
Why don't you bring Clarida back to your bed and tell just her.
Clarida's not real.
Well, she doesn't know that.
Oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
Everything okay? Carry me? Lil, you're too heavy.
Come here, kiddo.
She's okay.
Everything's okay.
Bad dreams.
Gotta go, Shel.
No I can't do that.
We're all booked up.
SRU.
Yes, parking's full, but there's a lot across the street.
SRU.
No, briefing doesn't start till four, you still got five minutes.
Pace yourself, Winnie, busy shift ahead.
Thank you.
Car park is full, try across the street.
There's our man.
Wordy, how ya doing? Hey.
Good to see you.
Busy night.
Happy to see you running things.
Yeah.
Hey, listen.
I got the message you left when Lori and I split.
I should've called back, it's jut You've had your hands full.
Yeah.
How're your girls? Man, they're great.
Shel's great.
And how about you? You, uh You doing okay? Oh yeah.
You know, getting divorced is probably the best thing that ever happened to me.
Makes you wonder if some things are meant to be, you know? Okay.
I gotta run.
Good luck.
Why didn't you tell me? You broke into my locker? You think that's how I wanted to find out? We have known each other for 20 years.
Doesn't give you the right- as your friend, maybe not.
As your team leader, that is a hell of a different story.
Why didn't you tell me? You were supposed to trust me.
Ed! We got a problem.
Talk to you later.
What is it? Wordy's on medication.
Levodopa.
You know what that is? He tell you this? No.
I broke into his locker.
You broke into his locker? Greg, he has Parkinson's.
I know.
He told me.
When? A while ago, Eddie.
So you've known that a member of our team is physically impaired? Look, this isn't the time or the place to have this conversation He has a degenerative disease that's affecting his motor control, and you decided not to tell me that? All right! Now let's get started.
We're not done here, Greg.
This time last year, about this time of night, I'm in a rec room of a real nice home in Forest Hill.
Got a pool table, wet bar, parents gone for the weekend Brother and sister dead on the Persian carpet.
Both under 15.
O.
D.
'd on their first taste of crack.
The dragon's out there - it's in our schoolyards, our parks, our homes - and when the smallest and youngest of us are vulnerable, we all are.
Welcome to operation pedal-to-the-metal.
It's the largest rolling raid this city has seen in a decade.
Our target is a massive multi-pronged drug ring.
Heroin, cocaine, amphetamines.
Each team has a no-knock warrant and in the briefings we handed out you'll find your team's assignment, and information on target, location, and anticipated TAC challenges.
They range from domestic wake-jobs to heavily fortified labs, so teams have been assigned accordingly.
Timing is key.
We count down atomic time only.
We hit our targets at 0500 sharp.
Sync your watches and beware of the jungle telegraph.
One target heads-up another, we lose suspects, evidence, we put officers at risk, all because of a 20-second cell phone call.
Our ring-runner is Gabe Hudson.
I've been deep undercover in Hudson's organization for almost a year now; I handled his money, so I can tell you that he is well funded, vicious, and will not go quietly.
He has armed bodyguards 24/7, he also has a girlfriend, Leila Brooks.
She could be in the house too.
My team and I will deal with this target personally.
Below Hudson are his four lieutenants.
They usually come with less security.
Under them, a dozen distribution, manufacturing locations, along with various distributors, dealers, and a variety of security.
Any questions? Why aren't you picking up? I need you to pick up.
All right.
Call me, okay? Soon as you can.
Everything okay? Yeah, it's fine.
What is it? Quick question.
Why are you assigning team one a secondary target? Hudson's home is a high risk, you said so yourself.
And you're not just looking at armed suspects, you have an innocent on the premises.
I know.
I've been undercover with Hudson nine months.
Okay? I know when he swaps out his toothbrush.
Look, I'm just saying maybe you'd want the city's top tactical team to handle the most complex arrest.
Greg, after what this case has cost me, I'm gonna be the one to slap the cuffs on Hudson tonight.
Target is Ricky Chom.
Intel places him at the same card table every night.
So we walk in, take his hand, go for a stroll.
Sam? What do you got? Okay, two entrances, no windows.
Front's sealed, but we should hold perimeter in case.
Okay.
Okay, here we go.
Spike, breach and cover.
Sam and Jules, detain security.
Boss and I'll grab Mr.
Chom.
Wordy, you're gonna be our eyes out front.
If you see the subject, do not engage.
Do not engage? Do not engage.
Search and cover only.
But if I see the subject? Let us know.
I'm gonna need your gun.
Eddie.
Clock's ticking, Word.
Gimme the Glock.
Eddie, just a sec.
Come on.
Greg, as the team leader, I gotta play this by the book.
Parkinson's can be controlled for years.
Now, he's been asymptomatic since he's been on the meds.
Okay, he's been asytomatic until he's not.
You're okay with that? I just said that I was.
And if there's a risk here, we will talk about a change.
Is this his boss or his buddy talking? Physical skills are useless when the mind starts to doubt.
What you're doing here, second guessing, is a hell of a lot more damaging to this team, and that's why we didn't tell prematurely.
subject's on the move.
You're kicking me out?! Take it, take it! Naismith.
Naismith, it's Parker.
Go for Naismith.
Target's on the move.
Looks like his card game didn't go so well All right, keep your distance.
We got 14 minutes till zero hour, we can't risk an early raid.
Parker yeah, copy that.
Follow and take him down at zero hour.
Works for me.
Entering his vehicle.
All right, boss and I in the lead.
Let's maintain distance.
If zero hour happens on the freeway? We'll be stopping traffic.
Word Yeah? You don't want me asking, do you? Hey, you remember Natalie, Sam's sister, she came to the station that time? Long hair, fast talker, great smile.
Yeah, I remember Natalie.
Well, she, uh She called me.
Just to say "Hey.
" So, if you were me, would you tell Sam? Anyway, I think I'm not asking I'm here, okay? I'm I'm just saying.
Thanks, Spike.
Spike, we got a tail on it.
Keep your distance.
Look, Eddie, thanks, Spike.
I get the anger.
You just found out your best friend is sick.
Let's just.
Let's drop the psychology, stick to the job.
It's a lot to process.
Why didn't you tell me? Maybe I should have.
This is why team one's on probation.
We've got Toth reading the transcripts of every call we go on, looking for cracks- he's not watching you, he's watching me.
I made a judgment call.
l think, maybe you made the wrong call.
Because what happened out there, now it's on record, Greg, and now we are all accountable.
Why did he take Wordy's gun? He's team leader.
If he took it, there's a reason.
Well, it's not safe.
Ed knows what he's doing.
We're walking into a warrant without cool heads.
Yeah, boss and Ed not on same page, I don't like it.
Teams and secrets.
All right, I'm gonna shutup now.
This is Naismith in position at Hudson's home.
Team two status? Team two in position.
Copy, team two.
It's the house on the corner.
Drove up, lights are out, no movement.
Is this his house? No record of it in the drug squad's file.
We don't know who lives her Nope, and no floorplans.
We're going in blind.
I don't like it.
Minutes.
Let's move.
Team five in position.
Copy team five.
Every house has the same venting.
Except ours.
There's five retrofitted vents.
Team four in position.
Copy that, team four.
So what, they're cooking meth? Nice camouflage, but yeah, that's the guess.
That cat pee smell? Anhydrous ammonia.
Female officer: Team three in position.
Copy team three.
Ninety seconds till word gets out on the op.
Okay.
New deal.
Volatile gases, check your masks.
No live ammo, no flash-bangs, no tasers, nothing that sparks.
Single snake formation.
Vents suggest the meth kitchen's at the rear.
So we go in the front, aggressive entry - hand-to-hand take-down, safeties on.
I'll go in lead, Spike, breach.
Then, boss, Sam, Jules, you're fourth.
Wordy, you wake and evacuate the neighbours.
About what? Three houses.
Three houses either side.
Get 'em to safety.
Are you serious? Copy that, team six.
Eddie, due respect, breach and hand-to-hand's what I do.
You already got weapon.
Wordy, I gotta do my job here.
I get that, I'm trying to do mine.
This isn't the time.
Wordy, it's a TAC call.
It's Eddie's call.
Team one, status? Team one, do you copy? We're at go minus 20 seconds.
What is your status? What is going on? Wordy, are you with me, or do I have to put you on the bench? Team one, status? I'll do the evac.
- Team one in position.
- Copy that, team one.
Good luck, everyone.
We're at go minus 10 Nine, eight, seven Six, five, four, three, two, one.
Team one: Police! Right there! Right there! Don't move! Down on the ground! Get down! On the ground! Back up! Now! Do it now! Where's Ricky Chom?! Hands your head now! Hands behind your back! We got a runner! Right there! Right there! Down on the ground! Get down! Get down! Down on the ground! Sam, you got him? Got someone, just not Ricky.
Take cover! Take cover! Naismith here, we got trouble.
Naismith, what's your status? We're 10-33! 10-33! We've got an officer down! Naismith, talk to me.
We've been ambushed! They got assault rifles.
One of my guys is down.
Is he still exposed? Yeah, he's right beside me.
We're behind a car.
Get behind the engine block.
Can you get to your officer? I think so.
Then do it! Focus on first aid, and do not cross the yard.
Oh God! Get me backup fast! Winnie, what have we got? All teams engaged.
I can send cruisers.
Get them in position and firing, but do not attempt a rescue.
Repeat do not attempt rescue.
Clear! That leaves the basement.
Copy.
Ricky Chom's unaccounted for.
Wordy, what do you see? No sign.
Checking the perimeter.
Ricky Chom! Police Strategic Response Unit! Put down your weapon, show us your hands! Ed let's go, these chemicals are gonna tear the flesh right off.
Fumes are real nasty on your lungs.
Okay! I'm coming out.
I'm coming out.
Keep those hands up.
Winnie! We need Hazmat units here asap! Wagon and decontamination unit's en route.
Turn over.
Gimme your hands.
Ricky Chom in custody.
Thanks to Officer Wordsworth.
Naismith, we're on our way.
He's busting out! Hudson's busted out! We're still under fire.
Winnie, put a an APB on Hudson's vehicle.
Wordy, Ricky Chom's coming with us.
Building's secure until the Hazmat truck arrives.
Let's go.
We got a cop down.
Let's move! Let's move! Naismith, it's Parker, we're on scene.
Talk to us.
Hudson was supposed to be asleep.
I ca-can't stop this bleeding.
Okay, just focus up, buddy.
Where's the shooter? Top left window, the whole yard's exposed.
How long since the last shot's fired? I don't know, I don't know Two-two minutes.
I don't know if he's still up there.
There's two back doors.
I-I don't know.
The truck's can take the gunfire.
Spike, Sam, let's get 'em out.
We're gonna cover you.
Let's go, guys.
Hang in there, Patterson.
Come on, hang in there.
Hang in there, Come on! Come on! Bring it in! Bring it in! I don't understand.
Was there any sign of activity? Nothing, nothing; The house was asleep.
We're just getting into position, then boom.
They were expecting you.
Okay, don't worry, we'll get Hudson.
We'll finish up here.
Floorplans are up.
Neighbours are contained.
Time to start talking? Negative.
All right, we're going in.
Naismith, how many in there? I don't know how many left in the SUV, but the girlfriend and two security guys live on the premises.
Speed and surprise.
Let's preempt any chance they have for a hostage situation.
Spike, you're with me.
Boss, you and Sam.
Jules, Wordy, draw fire.
Wordy Right now I need you.
Two rear doors, right here.
Okay, let's go.
Warren, we got this, why don't head back to the barn.
No, I'm not going anywhere.
This is my fault.
What's going on with you and Ed? Not the time.
Tell me when.
We're in.
We're in.
I'm in position.
Police! Drop your weapon! Get on the ground! Right now! Right there! Right now! Now! You can fire once.
But you can't shoot all us.
Okay.
Put the gun down.
Put it down! Put it down now! On the ground! On the ground now! Get your hands behind your back! Let's go! All clear.
No girlfriend? Alright, guys, let's search the grounds.
Winnie, Hudson's still at large.
He is now our top priority.
Hudson's gone.
He was this close and he's gone.
Hey, day's not over yet.
APB out on the vehicle, nothing yet.
Trail's cold.
Yeah, well, I don't know where he could go.
Every safehouse, yacht, or property he has is on the hot list.
All his assets are either frozen or traceable.
Half-packed bag, broken lamp blood.
Maybe she knew there was trouble coming before he did and she started packing before telling him.
Maybe she never planned on telling him at all.
So who's the one who called the house to tip 'em off? Police! Down on the ground! Get down right now! Hands in the air! It's me.
Can you talk? That's Detective Naismith.
I don't have long.
Are you okay? Warren? It's Wordy.
Where are you? Talk to me, tell me what's going on.
Warren! He's the guy behind this whole operation.
He blew the cover on his own raid? It doesn't make sense.
Warren Naismith wouldn't lead his men into an ambush.
Then why's he calling Hudson's phone? You sure it's Hudson's? I don't know, can't tell for sure; that's a throwaway.
Could be the girlfriend's.
You wanna find Hudson, let's start looking for Naismith.
Cruisers are looking for him.
Ricky Chom, we got him.
Maybe he knows something.
Naismith's undercover file says he went by Warren Milston.
He manages to turn Hudson's head, gets promoted to handling his cash.
Since then, most of drug squad's intel goes through Naismith.
Maybe he's crooked? No way.
Why so sure? I've known the guy for 15 years.
He's ambitious, but he's not crooked.
Wordy, you know Naismith.
But tonight, "Milston" has been trying real hard to get through.
So, what's the story? Hey, boss, I got a theory on that.
Ricky Chom's here, I'm gonna try it out on him.
Keep us posted.
Ricky, do you have any idea where we might find Hudson? We're concerned for the safety of his girlfriend Leila.
Hey, how 'bout you fast-forward to the part where you co-operate.
What kind of charges am I facing? Manufacture of illegal drugs, resisting arrest, firing at an officer How 'bout attempted murder? You'll make sure this goes in my file.
Done.
Gabe Not now, Leila.
Gabe, please Did you not hear what I said? You don't need me here.
Let me out.
I'm just holding you back.
We can meet up.
You're not going anywhere, Leila.
There's Milston.
Milston.
What the hell is going on? You tell me? I step out for smokes, I turn around the corner, I got a SWAT team busting down my door.
Yeah? Well that's too bad, bud.
I just gave up my whole life for you, Hudson.
Got nowhere to go, all I got is a car, I gotta ditch the clothes on my back and the bag in my trunk.
Yeah, well, what's in that bag, Milston? Huh? Yesterday's take? No, my best antiques.
What do u think? Okay.
All right.
So you wanna work this out? How do I know you're not already arrested and won't just lead me to the cops? You're not even on the totem pole.
Okay? Let's do this, I got places to go.
All right, yeah.
I know where we can meet.
Hudson met Leila at her first opening.
She painted these.
Hudson's an art fan? In the sense that he was interested in laundering through art sale absolutely.
Why didn't she leave? It's Gabe Hudson.
He decides when it's over.
Do you think that there's anything between Leila and Warren Milston? Come on, clock's ticking Ricky.
I only know what I saw.
It's our weekly meeting, Milston came early, Hudson wasn't home yet.
She always looked right through him.
I mean, the guy's an accountant.
But that day Sorry, I-I didn't mean to It's all right.
At least somebody'll get to see it.
What do you see? It's, it's good.
Yeah, either you're lying or you don't know art.
Well, uh, no.
It's, it's, it's really good.
I, uh I see Georgian Bay.
You know, the way the sunset sneaks up behind you and reflects in the water.
It's fantastic.
Half right; It's Muskoka.
Oh well The sunset that sneaks up, though I like the way you put that.
You know what he does with these paintings? Yeah, I'm the money guy, I know.
Yeah, I don't know why I bother.
Well, then you should do it for yourself.
Screw him don't paint for him, paint for you.
Sorry.
I I.
Oh It's okay.
The fire from the sun though You know, it It comes from somewhere.
Leila, I-I All I know Is he came early every week after that.
before Hudson came home.
So Naismith works undercover as Hudson's money-man, and falls in love.
He's on a bad rebound from the divorce.
Sees a bright and beautiful women like that, stuck with a guy like Hudson He told me that sometimes things are "meant to be".
He wanted to help.
Rescue the damsel, slay the dragon himself.
Well, this operation was more than business to him.
So wherever he is, he's not thinking rationally right now.
I'm on it.
I don't see him picking up that phone.
Well, I'm banking on him needing the voice of a friend.
Spike? His GPS is off; I gotta triangulate.
You're not talking me down, buddy.
I just wanted to know that you're okay.
I'm okay.
I'm great.
Everything's under control now.
Look, you never meant for this to happen.
You just You wanted her to be safe.
I had to warn her.
I couldn't just stand back and let her get caught in the middle of it.
But she wouldn't pick up, she wouldn't pick up.
Let us help you.
You know what it's like to see how she live? To, to watch how Hudson treats her? I know, buddy, I know.
She deserves better.
Like being in stuck in a nightmare.
I-I can't say anything, I can't.
I can't do anything.
You're alone with your secret and all you wanna do is tell the truth.
I know.
The thing is, Warren, you've got a t.
We're on your side, we're ready to back you up.
Come on! I'm losing my g3! Isn't it time, buddy, you stopped hiding from your own team? Are you even listening to me? This did not have to happen! I am responsible for this! I should've told her two days ago.
I should've warned her when I had the chance.
I should've trusted her.
Sorry.
Where is he? They're gone.
Leila.
You said that before I can't do this any more.
We'll find a way.
I could go now.
No, it's not safe.
I don't care.
Just give me two days.
I'll figure it out.
I'll let you know when the time is right, when it's safe.
Two days, then it's all about us.
Okay? Okay.
It's safe.
Okay? Good.
Because I was too I was to selfish.
I was too I was too proud to think straight.
Then don't face this alone, Warren.
Sorry, buddy, it's my job to fix this.
There's only one way I can walk away from this mess.
No, War-Warren! Warren! Warren! I got him on twenty blocks.
It's all I got.
All right.
He said, "My job to fix this.
" He's about to cross the line and if he does Save Hudson.
Priority of life.
We've got an area Yonge to Don River, north of St.
Clair.
It's our old beat.
Eddie.
Remember where we used to take dealer when we wanted them to talk? Right here.
Yeah.
What, you'd scare them? No.
Make 'em feel safe.
Privacy and safety for both sides.
They'd leave holding tight to their secrets.
And by the time they'd walk off, we'd get everything we wanted.
Naismith knows that place.
If he wants to take down Hudson, he'd go there.
It's the best we got.
Let's go.
That footbridge is a TAC nightmare.
It won't come to that.
I spoke to Naismith's super.
He's been through a lot.
That doesn't make him a bad cop.
You think his emotions will override his police instinct? U think he'll fire on the team? No.
He'd never hurt another cop.
It means everything to him.
Although he is pretty motivated to get Hudson out of the picture.
The lines can get blurred.
Leila, you okay? He's watching.
How did he know about the raid? He caught me! He forced me Okay.
I'm gonna put the bag down and we're just gonna walk off this bridge, all right? No, it's not safe.
He won't let me.
Leila.
No.
Leila, please, come with me, okay? He's finished.
I've got a car.
No, you don't understand, I have to.
Warren, please, I'm begging you.
Please just turn around and walk away.
Don't, don't, don't Ok, guys, lights and cherries off.
Coming in on the south approach.
Copy.
Gabe! Money's here.
We're good.
You shouldn't have done that.
Go, quick, now! Please! I just bought you some time.
Leila, he's gonna look in the bag and know you lied, okay? He's gonna hurt you.
I'm not leaving you.
Warren.
I'll be okay.
Leila, come with me.
Warren, he'll shoot us both in the back.
Go! I love you.
Come with me.
Come with me.
Milston Okay, there's his car.
We need to cover both sides of the bridge.
Spike and I will drop down the bank, cover the north.
Copy.
They're on the bridge I'll take Sierra.
Jules, shield the boss.
Wordy, you cover me.
If it comes to that.
So I guess we part ways, huh? I guess so.
You got a smoke? Uh, no I don't.
Well, didn't you say you went to buy smokes at five a.
m.
? Yeah, you never have one of those nights you can't sleep? They're in the car.
Was that before or after you called my girlfriend? Gabe, he's not a cop.
He called so that I could warn you.
He was trying to protect you.
On your cell? The house phone would've woken up your guys, it was faster without them.
You're the one that started packing and forgot to give me the message.
Don't blame him.
It was me.
It was me.
It was my fault.
I tipped the cops.
Yeah, it was me.
No, Gabe, no.
It's 'Cause now that I know you I don't love you.
No, no, it's me! Shots fired, Leila's down.
Eddie, what's your status? Nearly there.
Leila! What What have you done, huh? Warren! Huh?! What have u done?! Warren! Warren, put the gun down and step away from the edge.
Aaahhhh! Sam, status? We see him, almost there.
You sick son of a bitch! You didn't deserve to even look at her! Detective! Put your weapon down, or you will be our target! Do you understand? She meant nothing to you.
- Let me up! - Nothing to you! She was your meal ticket.
She was your prisoner! Just keep talking, that's fine, I just need you to put the gun down.
Back off! Back off, Greg.
Back it off! Help me! Eddie.
I've got the solution.
I said back off! He's not gonna shoot.
He's not hearing you, he's not hearing! She was your meal ticket.
- Wordy! Wordy! - Help me! Warren! Wordy! Wordy, you're in my line of fire! Warren, stop it now! Don't do it, Wordy.
Don't do it.
Back off, man.
Please, help me! Don't do it! Don't come any closer! I'm putting my gun away.
Wordy Warren, you look at me.
It's just and me here.
Stop it! Don't do it.
Back off, Wordy! Wordy! What, are you gonna shoot me? You're not gonna shoot me, Warren.
Back off! Don't do it, Warren! Put the gun down.
Warren! Ungh! It's-it's okay.
I've got you.
- Got ya! - Here we go, I got you! Warren, it's okay.
It's okay.
This way - Don't look at her, look at me.
Look at me.
No.
It's okay, buddy.
It's okay.
No.
Winnie.
How's Detective Patterson? Stable, pulling through.
That's great news.
Big night.
What I hear, pedal-to-the-metal was practically flawless.
Hey, how about Naismith, how's he doing? Not so good.
You guys got a sec? Locker room? Yeah.
Yeah.
So, um What tonight was about was, uh I have Parkinson's.
Whoa.
Oh man, I'm glad that's done.
So, uh, what does that mean? It means that sooner or later, short of major medical breakthroughs in the next little while - which could happen - uh my nervous system's gonna kinda break down.
And I'm sorry.
I, I I wanted to tell you guys something, but I was scared, you know? Saying it makes it real and I wanted to be, you know Perfect for you guys, the way you're perfect for me.
Just so you know, Wordy's medications keep his symptoms fully under control.
Could be that way for years.
So, he's not going anywhere.
Uh, boss I'm a time bomb.
A month, a year, two years, it doesn't matter.
I'm not perfect and you guys need me to be.
'Cause one day my hands are gonna catch a tremor and your lives are in 'em.
It's not worth the risk.
But, Wordy, which one of us is perfect? You know, we're just people.
I'm not perfect.
I'm definitely not perfect, buddy.
