- Thank you, guys.
[Verstappen] You made me a cake?
Well, this is mine and Jack's.
We decorated this for you.
Unfortunately, we didn't have the blue,

[Horner] It's been an amazing season.
It's been the most successful season
Red Bull Racing has ever had
in Formula 1

This is one I made earlier.
Yeah, of course. Thank you very much.

of your five a day with that one.
I'm not asking calories.
[Horner] And the ultimate for us
would be to get both titles.
You know, we last won
a Constructors' title back in 2013.

all teams have been under a budget cap.
A hard limit on how much money
you're allowed to spend in Formula 1.

[in English] The theory is that the

[machinery whirring]
[Buxton] If Red Bull have spent more
than the budget cap allows for 2021,
then they've broken the rules,
and the penalties could be severe.
It could be a financial penalty.
It could be something as meaningful
as a points deduction,
either for this season
or, crucially, for 2021,
when they won the World Championship.
[Seidl] So the the Red Bull thing,
something is not going straight.
It's weird, isn't it?
Yeah.
You know, an overspend
does give you a competitive advantage.
Some people would call it cheating,
would say it's illegal.
Usually, in this sport,
where there's smoke, there's fire.
[Horner] When you look
at the definition of a cheater,
it's someone that has purposely
and knowingly broken the regulations

We did not do that. We have not done that.
We did not cheat.
[Wolff]
You know how it is in this little paddock

If Red Bull breached the budget cap,

I think if you can bring

- Are you making something up?

[cheering]
Really proud. Well done.
[commentator 4] Max Verstappen is around

but there's a lot of unease
from the other teams.
I think it's fair to say that Red Bull
aren't the most popular team
in the paddock at the moment.
- Right. Thanks, guys.
- Thank you.
[Horner] Does anybody, uh, congratulate us
on winning
the Drivers' World Championship?
- [team member] No.
- Super.
And now just the shit
with the budget cap to deal with.
Any information?
No. They were gonna call us
after the race.
[cell phone vibrates]
[suspenseful stinger]
[suspenseful music playing]
[Horner] Yeah.
Yeah.
So it looks like
we actually breached the budget cap
for for 2021.
It was a mistake.
It was a miscalculation, uh
We filled in a box, effectively, wrong.
Benign issues
that had nothing to do
with car performance.
About wellness of staff, about catering.
Catering is something
that we've always done.
The overspend was 0.6 of a percent,
$400,000.
Really? Has that made the difference?
I don't think so.
[Horner sighs]
All the headlines
tomorrow afternoon will be,
"Championship in jeopardy."
Just a joke. Just an absolute joke.
[upbeat country music playing]
We're the first ones in.
Yeah.
It's gonna be a good day.
[interviewer] What's your favorite part
about being here?
Uh, a lot of things.
First of all, I don't have to travel far
because I live in America, you know.
[crowd cheering]
[commentator 1] Max Verstappen
might already be the F1 champion,
but it's the cost-cap controversy
surrounding Red Bull
that continues to dominate the headlines.
So Zak Brown at McLaren
has written a public letter
basically accusing Christian Horner
and Red Bull of cheating
and saying that they should have
the worst punishment possible.
- Morning.
- [man] How are you?
- [Brown] Good. You?
- Good.
You got Christian's attention.
[Brown] Yeah. Gotta do it.
My letter.
[dramatic music playing]
I wanted to just lay out
and share what were the ramifications
and say, "We've got a cap.
Those are the rules."
"You don't break the cap."
There was almost an arrogance,
a disrespect for the cap
that I didn't like to see.
If we took our catering budget
outside the the cap,
then we'd be able to spend
whatever that is outside the cap
on something else.
To just kinda phrase it as, you know,
"It was extra pickles on a sandwich,"
that has a performance benefit.
I like Christian.
It wasn't personal.
He would've done the same thing.
[Wolff] I don't believe
in the notion "win at all cost."
Well, all of the paperwork
is the same for every single team.
Nine teams have complied. One team hasn't.
There's just no excuse for it.
[tense music playing]
[interviewer] What kind of penalties
should there be given
for breaching the cost cap?
I think not only financial,
the financial won't necessarily,
uh, slow you down on the racetrack
if you've had a performance advantage,
so I think it needs to come
with some sporting penalties.
You know, over is over.
If we're a half kilogram underweight
on track,
we're excluded
from, uh from that particular race, so
Rules are rules.
We follow them.
If somebody is not obeying to these rules,
there have to be consequences
that it's clear
it's not worthwhile to overspend.
[team member]
We'll do the press conference.
- So here are your notes.
- [Horner] Yeah.
What I've done here is I've highlighted
the point that relates to cheating.
- [Horner] Come on.
- Ready?
[Horner] Yeah. Let's do it.
I don't wanna be too early for this.
I wanna be the last there.
- Morning.
- [Horner] I guess this will be a busy one.
[staff member] Yeah.
- [Jost] Morning.
- Morning.
[journalist] Christian, Zak said that
the overspend breach constitutes cheating,
so I just wanted
to get your reaction to that.
Well, obviously Zak's letter
is tremendously disappointing.
For a fellow competitor
to be accusing you of cheating,
to accuse you of fraudulent,
you know, activity is shocking.
And the damage
that that that does to the brand,
to our drivers,
to our workforce.
You know, in an age
where mental health is is prevalent,
you cannot go around
just making that kind of allegation
without any fact or, uh or substance.
So we absolutely are are appalled
at the behavior
of some of our competitors.
[tense music playing]
[interviewer] Now the rival teams are now
questioning about Red Bull performance,
your victories in the last two years.
What do you think?
I mean, I think it's mainly because,
of course, we have been doing well.
Um
Yeah, they try to slow us down
in any way possible.
Everyone is a bit hypocritical.
At the end of the day,
it's also not my job.
It's between the team and the FIA.
You know, there's always teams
that want to take performance out of you,
especially when you are winning,
so it's part of the sport,
and this has been forever.
At the end of the day,
facts will come out,
and and people will see
and and understand the situation.
[Horner] It's a very public trial.
[team member] Did you see this?
This one.
- [crowd booing]
[crowd chanting] Cheaters! Cheaters!
Cheaters! Cheaters! Cheaters
[Horner] It's not right.
Say, "Look,
we're getting a public flogging."
- [team member] It's unbelievable.
- Yeah.
With the amount of lobbying
and pressure being placed on the FIA,
stating that Red Bull need
to be screwed for this,
it's all about trying
to take away our competitiveness,
trying to hurt Red Bull.
It's completely nuts.
The teams tried
to put pressure on the system
because if you don't respect the rules,
you need to receive a penalty.
That is pretty clear.
That's part of the role
of the team principal.
Try to, you know, to do all what you can
in order to maximize
the performance of your team.
[Buxton] In breaching
the budget-cap regulations in 2021,
we know now
that Red Bull will be punished.
Ultimately, the person
overseeing all of this
is the new FIA president,
Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
And, given this is the first time
these regulations have been tested,
he may choose
to make an example of Red Bull Racing.
[spectator] Christian!
They cheated!
[Horner] Let's go in.
Okay?
[ominous stinger]
[Horner] I need to speak to the guys.
[Ben Sulayem] And come back to me
as soon as possible, okay?
[Horner] Okay.
So he's come up
and said the fine is 7 million.
He said this is it.
They want your blood.
They all want your blood.
They wanna fuck you.
[Wolff] I think,
when you look at us competitors,
the punishment
will never be strong enough.
If you put yourself
into the mindset of the other team,
you will think it's pretty harsh.
I think the FIA took a decision.
I think we need to respect it.
I think the budget cap
is absolutely fundamental
to the success
of the sport moving forward,
so it needed
to be dealt with very seriously,
and Christian,
he didn't take it very well.
You know, he dishes it out quite a bit,
but if you dish it out,
you gotta be prepared to, uh to take it.
[Horner] I mean, honestly,
I've never experienced anything like this,
but he said, "You have no friends.
I'm your only friend."
I said, "I don't need friends."
- Makes it very public, doesn't it?
- That's what he wants. A public
- Public reprimand.
- Yeah.
- A public flogging.
- Yeah.
- That's what it is.
- Yeah.
- The naughty boys.
- Yeah.
I was just disappointed.
There was no room
for interpretation by the FIA.
It was a very frustrating process.
Anyway, let's go,
try and focus on the cars. [chuckles]
Fuck's sake.
[tense music builds, subsides]
[somber music playing]
[team member] Sorry to interrupt.
News has dropped
about Dietrich.
[Horner] Oh, fucking hell.
[team member] I think somebody's
gotta talk to the team.
[Horner] I'll speak to the team.
Yeah.
I'm gonna have to deal with this.
I I just heard. I just heard.
The news came through
that, um, Dietrich Mateschitz,
our founder and, uh, chairman
of the Red Bull group,
had sadly passed away.
- So, you know, just got to go out there.
- Exactly.
And win it for him.
[Pérez] Sorry, mate.
[indistinct chatter]
[Horner] We'll do it for him, okay?
Yeah. I mean,
Dietrich's an incredible man.
Um, we owe him everything.

is for us to go out
and do the very best with our cars
and and, you know, try and finalize

[Bono] See if we can stick with Verstappen
best we can.
[Hamilton] It's hard to keep up.
[Bono] Yeah, copy, Lewis.
Try and hang with him.
[commentator 2]
Max Verstappen's increasing his advantage.
[Lambiase] Keep doing what you're doing.
[Bono] Box, box. Box, box.
[Lambiase] Hamilton's in the pit lane.
You are free to push.
[Bono] Lewis, out lap critical.
So it's Hammer time.
Really great pace.
[Lambiase] Okay, Max, box, box.
[wheel gun whirring]
[dramatic stinger]
[wheel gun whirring]
[Bono] So slow stop for Verstappen.
[Verstappen] Beautiful. Fucking beautiful.
[commentator 2] Lewis Hamilton
is gonna get ahead of Max Verstappen.
[commentator 1] And Red Bull's mistake
has now gifted Lewis the lead.
And Leclerc's managed
to get in front of him as well.
[Padros] Racing Verstappen.
Racing Verstappen.
[Bono] Leclerc and Verstappen
exiting the pit lane now.
Leclerc ahead of Verstappen.
Six seconds behind.
[Lambiase] Long way to go.
[Verstappen] Yeah, you don't need
to tell me, huh?
[Lambiase] We're in this together, mate.
Head down. Come on.
[commentator 2]
This race has changed dramatically.
[Leclerc] They are so quick
down the straights.
[commentator 3] Verstappen riding
the slipstream of Charles Leclerc now.
[Padros] Verstappen behind with DRS.
[commentator 2] And Verstappen pulls out
from behind the Ferrari
and gets the move done.
Yes!
Come on!
[Lambiase] Well done, Max.
Hamilton ahead.
[Bono] So Verstappen now through.
4.7 seconds behind.
[Lambiase] Okay, Max, ten laps remaining.
Ten laps.
Two seconds ahead, Max.
[commentator 1] It's simple.
Max has ten laps to catch Lewis.
[Hamilton] How big's the gap?
[Bono] Gap to Verstappen 1.1.
[commentator 5] Verstappen now
a second away from Lewis Hamilton.
This is gonna go down to the wire.
[Horner] Seeing them going wheel to wheel,
if we lose this race, the first race
that we lose to Mercedes this year
If there is a God, if there is,
you know, a higher power here,
now's the time to show yourself.
[Bono] So Verstappen looks like
he's pushing hard.
- [Lambiase] The overtake is available.
- [Verstappen] Yeah, yeah.
[Bono] DRS has been enabled.
[commentator 3] Verstappen closing
and closing in on Hamilton.
[music building]
[commentator 2] Verstappen goes deep,
and now they're gonna go wheel to wheel!
[crowd cheering]
[commentator 2]
Hamilton tries to go round the outside.
Come on!
[commentator 2]
Verstappen just runs him out of space,
just moves ahead
and has the lead this race.
Oh fuck.
Come on!
[team cheering]
[Lambiase] Nice job.
Just keep it safe from here, Max.
[Hamilton] I gave it everything, guys.
Gave it everything.
[commentator 2] On the day they can make
Constructors' World Championship,
Verstappen looks like he's gonna go
and win the race to seal it.
[commentator 1] Superb drive
in a dominant season for Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen, you are World Champion.
We are World Champions. Thank you so much.
[Verstappen] Congrats, guys.
What an amazing season
to win also the Constructors'.
You guys really deserve it.
[team cheering]
[Horner] Winning the Constructors'
World Championship,
particularly in the circumstances,
that was the golden moment.
That was the moment of
not only are we Drivers' World Champion,
we are Constructors' World Champion
for the first time in eight years.
And particularly at a weekend
where there was a lot of politics,
you know,
there was a lot going on off track.
- [engineer] I told you, mate.
- You should go and get the trophy.
For Dietrich, okay?
Okay.
What a race.
We did it!
[crowd cheering]
[upbeat music playing]
[Geri] Darling.
Really well done. You so deserve this.
Congratulations.
Thank you very much. Thank you.
This one is definitely dedicated
to Dietrich himself,
uh, what he has done for everyone.
He was so important for the whole team,
so instrumental.
And we really wanted
to have a good result today,
and, yeah, this is, of course, amazing.
[crowd cheering]
[Horner] There's always gonna be noise
in Formula 1,
But, at the end of the day,
we have dominated the sport this year
and won both the Drivers'
and the Constructors' Championship.
That's what this season
will be remembered for.
[all cheering] Yeah!
[emotional music playing]
[commentator 2] For one last time in '22,
the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
[Italiano] What's up?
It's game on.
[Szafnauer] My job now
is to make sure we finish ahead of Zak.
[Brown] Yeah. We're in big battle.
Miracles can happen in this sport.
[producer] Might be the last time
you're in this chair.
[Ricciardo sighs]
This fight for second
would be a huge result.
[Sainz] We need to make sure
that we win that battle.
The show wouldn't be the same without me,
so what do you do?
[intense, energetic outro music playing]
