They All Want Me Dead, Don't They?

1 All right.
How dangerous is this man to the woman and the child he got with him? Extremely dangerous.
He's desperate.
If my men can get clear, head shots are authorized.
We can't have him kill anyone else.
He's facing capital punishment.
Who knows what this man is capable of.
Well, look here, we gonna go both ways on this thing.
If we can't get it through his hard head that he needs to surrender, we gonna bring on the SWAT with the full wrath.
Well, I have a team ready to deliver a throw phone and Cameron Wilson on the way.
- Bring it on.
- Yeah.
- GUILLORY: Let's do this.
- Mike, let's go.
Who's Cameron Wilson? You know Chris Kyle, the American sniper? Yeah.
Cameron Wilson had the second most sniper kills out of Iraq.
Out of the SEALs, straight into SWAT.
He doesn't miss.
You've got to get him out of there like his life depends on it.
Well, you don't want him to die either.
I don't want one of our guys carrying the weight of killing him.
It takes something out of you to kill someone.
- You know that.
- Yeah, I know that.
You got to move him to talk about his surrender plan.
Has he sounded like he's willing to surrender if he doesn't get what he wants? Well, find that hook.
He's smart about violence against the black community, right? He wants to be heard.
Tell him that the justice system is his best chance at being heard.
You think he believes that a court in this parish is his best shot for justice? Why do you do this job? I'll be goddamned if I know anymore.
Well, when you fucking figure it out, make that his answer.
Make him believe whatever it is that makes you put on that uniform, and he'll walk out.
[PHONE RINGS.]
- Shit.
- [RINGING.]
When Tactical goes dynamic, it's not a question of whether or not he lives or dies.
It's whether his woman and child dies.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
- You ready? - Okay, go.
[RINGING.]
Hey, Rayshawn.
All I did was back up the car.
I didn't know he was back there.
I know.
I feel you, bruh.
I feel you.
I didn't mean for shit to go down like that.
Hey, just slow your roll and listen to me for a minute, all right? Gonna be all right.
How you doing? They all want me dead, don't they? I ain't gonna lie to you, bruh.
They calling you a cop killer.
Ain't nobody out here gonna cry for you if you end up dead.
Yeah, but I didn't mean to kill nobody.
Shit.
I know how you feel.
[CHUCKLES.]
A couple of years ago there was a kid with mental issues who pulled a BB gun on some cops.
And I shot him, killed him.
That was you? That kid was only 11 years old.
Just turned.
You ever kill anybody else? Only had to pull my weapon one other time.
But never mind about me.
It's about you, man.
You was in the service, right? You remember when you used to put that uniform on, that sense of responsibility you felt? Hmm? Transforms you into somebody who you think can't do any wrong.
But underneath you still human, right? It's still you in there.
I'm telling you, when you decide to take somebody away from this place forever, you digging a hole inside yourself - that you can't never fill up.
- All right? So there is something that you can do right here right now.
You can get yourself and your family out of there safe.
I wanna try and help you do that.
Can we do that, bruh? The DA get there yet? DA Yeah.
They called her.
And she's on the way.
I gotta tell you, though.
It's not much of a chance that she'd be willing to listen to what you got to say right now.
Well, they had to be recording it.
I want that footage.
- What? - Them motherfuckers got it.
I know they do.
Let her watch it.
Let her see that it was entrapment, and then she'll wanna talk.
I don't know nothing about no bodycam footage, Rayshawn.
They told me they weren't recording anything.
They're lying.
Okay? Look, man, it was only a few cops that wanted me dead.
Now they all want me dead.
Get me that video.
- [SIGHS.]
- There is no footage.
Fuck.
Goddamn it.
Your fucking kid is here.
[CROWD SHOUTING.]
Miles! [SHOUTING CONTINUES.]
- He came out of nowhere.
- Hey, Dad.
Miles Poincy.
Boy, what you doing out here? The standoff started trending, and then all these photos of you popped up.
- Aw, shit.
- Here.
This is Poincy.
West side of the cordon.
I need a uniform to take my son home.
- Dad, I'm not leaving.
- You not leaving? Boy, look around you.
Look around you, Miles.
It is not safe out here for you.
You gonna sit in the squad car.
You don't do nothing.
You don't say nothing.
You heard me? - Yes, sir.
- Come on.
WOMAN: In Illinois, we had Laquan McDonald and Rekia Boyd.
In Texas, we had Sandra Bland.
In Ohio, we had 12-year-old Tamir Rice and John Crawford.
In New York, we had Eric Garner, Sean Bell, Akai Gurley, Amadou Diallo.
In Michigan, we had seven-year-old Aiyana Jones.
In Maryland, we had Freddie Gray.
In North Carolina, we had Jonathan Ferrell.
In South Carolina, we had Walter Scott.
In California, we had Ezell Ford and most recently Stephon Clark.
In my home state of Washington, Charleena Lyles.
And that is just a sampling of how this is not a local issue.
It is a national disaster.
It is a national problem.
It is reminiscent of everything On that buy-and bust, can we see if there were surveillance or security cameras in that area? Everyone who takes a hostage has a sob story.
Everyone.
Is it possible or not? Despite the heinous shit they did, they become sympathetic once their back's to the wall.
Okay, look, I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid.
I'm seeing what I'm seeing.
- What do you see, Steven? - [SIGHS.]
Maybe I see a little deeper than what everybody else is seeing, Lincoln.
Command.
Red 1.
Phone is set.
Good.
Copy, Tactical.
We're finally ready to cut his phone.
Let him know we're coming.
That's your best idea? Cut him off from everything else.
He wants to be heard.
He wants to talk.
You take that away from him, you might amp him up.
You never know what he'll do then.
He wants to be heard? He goes through you now.
You are his whole world.
He knows a cop died.
You make him feel like shit about it.
Oh, no.
I'm not doing that.
I'm not gonna bait and guilt a man who suffers from PTSD.
It is necessary and it gets results.
Necessary.
[SCOFFS.]
Sorry.
Sorry.
You and I both know it's safer for them to come out than to stay inside.
- Forget this.
- Two minutes, and the phone is cut.
[SOMBER DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
TAYESHA: What happened now? That cop died.
[CROWD SHOUTING.]
Let me see that.
What you looking at? Give me the phone, boy.
What they saying? You won't stop until he's dead.
[CHUCKLES.]
So everybody's woke now.
Hiding behind their phones.
Telling the police how we supposed to do our job.
Look, we out here trying to protect everyone, including Rayshawn and his family.
But the Internet is the only thing keeping Rayshawn and his family alive.
Y'all shot up his apartment.
I didn't shoot anybody.
And Rayshawn ran over a cop.
Look, son, every day I look in the faces of black mothers and fathers and see fear and anger and pain.
I'm trying to do everything I can to get Rayshawn and his family out of there safe and alive.
Okay, well, you need to, because now the whole world's watching.
