Interference

1 My name is Detective Raimy Sullivan.
My father was killed in 1996.
- Last night - [electricity crackling.]
[indistinct radio chatter.]
- Hello? - Hey.
I spoke to him.
- Your father? - Dad? So you're telling me that in 20 years, I'm gonna be on the job with my daughter? No.
You die tomorrow.
[gunshot.]
[tires screeching.]
[gasps.]
Dad survived.
But saving his life changed everything.
We've ID'd the remains from the marsh.
I'm sorry, Raimy, it's your mom.
The most wanted serial killer in New York took my mom.
Now, whatever we do, however we try to fix things, history keeps changing.
- Your name is Daniel Lawrence.
- How do you know my name? I'm your girlfriend! I've never been to Queens.
And I don't know you.
I'm sorry.
All I want is to get back what I lost.
Previously on "Frequency" Detective Raimy Sullivan, 21st.
Why are you looking at me like that? Sullivan.
Naw, it's okay you didn't call me back.
I worked a case with a detective today.
Had zero recollection we hooked up before.
- I have a date tonight.
- You're dating? - Yeah, we're separated, Frank.
- For what, two weeks? We both know it's been a whole lot longer than that.
You asked me if I believe in fate.
Yeah, fate, kismet, whatever you want to call it.
I guess I never really had a reason to before.
We got the Hideaway Mountain Camp.
Larissa was only a nurse at that camp.
Which means the Nightingale passed through that camp.
What you got? Everything.
[ominous music.]
This is a significant breakthrough in the hunt for this killer.
So if anyone attended, knows someone who attended or worked at the Hideaway Mountain Camp, please call us at this tip line.
212-851-3122.
I want to speak directly to the families of the victims.
I'm a detective, but I am also one of you.
My mother was And my father died before he could catch her killer.
We are still witnessing We want to thank you all for coming out.
That's gonna conclude this press conference.
If anyone has any questions, you know our number.
You can contact us here at the precinct.
[radio static.]
[dark music.]
[sighs.]
What you got? Damn.
[sighs.]
- How many? - I don't know.
Ten, 15 more, maybe.
All asking to speak with you, directly.
What can I say? The crazies love me.
That's very funny.
You know, I got to say, I'm not too happy with you being in the middle of all of this.
I've been in the middle of this since I was eight years old.
I'll be fine.
Hey, we got DNA confirmation.
Larissa Abbot was the girl that he held up at the camp in '94 after it closed.
ME thinks she was killed maybe late '94, 95.
So she was the Nightingale's first kill.
But why her? Exactly.
Oh, and I spoke to her brother, Jesse, again.
Wanted to see if he had any of her old things that we could look through.
And? Says he threw it away awhile back.
- Yeah? - Yeah.
When? 2001? Her family threw most of it away after her remains were found.
But you could go to her house.
You could search her room while it's all still there.
- And tell 'em what? - What're you talking about? They don't even know she's dead, Raimes.
Now you're telling me she's not gonna be found for another five years? That's five years of hell for these people.
I know.
And I get it.
- But you can't say anything.
- How can I not? Because it's safer if we work these leads in 2016.
Nothing changes that way.
If I can find this guy today, he'll never see you coming in '96.
So they suffer? Right now, you having this information is more valuable than her family having it.
I promise.
And I know how that sounds, I do.
But I also know I'm right.
Okay, so what exactly am I looking for? Anything camp-related.
Any place she may have hidden something.
Closet, bed, desk.
Hope chest.
Hope chest? Trust me.
Really, you realize the ammunition you're giving me, right? If your mom ever does let me back into the house, I'm gonna have some serious digging to do.
How are things with you two? [sighs.]
Giving her space.
Okay.
Do you think maybe you should try talking to her? Tell her what you told me about how the job got the better of you? Listen, Raimes, I appreciate the help, but just why don't you just let your parents be the parents, all right? I got to handle it.
[knocking.]
Hey, I got to go.
Talk later.
Come in.
'Sup? What's up? Roommate not home? Look, you don't got to worry about Miracella anymore, all right? But you do.
- Stan put a warning card out on her.
- Really? - He's playing this one cards up? - Meaning what? Meaning he preferred to do her like he did Little Jay.
Dead in a car, two to the skull.
- Tell me I'm wrong.
- I don't know the particulars.
You don't want to know the particulars.
Look, but I do know you can't be going around saying stuff like that.
Why are you protecting him, Satch? - Huh? You know what he is.
- Really? - Yeah! - Dumbass, really? I'm protecting you.
I appreciate that.
Yeah, well, don't mention it.
All right, girls, party's over.
Bye, Michelle.
Hi, Mom.
Hey, Mookie Wilson.
- How was practice? Good.
- Good.
- Hit 'em hard? - Thanks, Coach.
Put your stuff away.
Thank you again.
I tried to get off early, but it was it was nuts.
Of course.
I'm happy to help.
See you soon.
[chuckles.]
Um, you know I had a great time the other day.
Yeah, uh me too, it was it was fun.
Maybe we can do it again.
I'm pretty open next week.
Yeah.
Yeah, we should.
Um sounds good.
- All right.
- [chuckles.]
It's a date.
Yeah.
- Mm.
- Oh, was that - No, no, no it's - My bad.
- I'll see you soon.
- Yeah, okay, sure.
So I ran all the names from the camp files.
Campers, counselors, staff.
- Anything? - [chuckles.]
Not really, we got eight DUIs, some pet p theft, a little trespassing.
But no one we should keep on our radar.
- So we have nothing? - No, not quite.
See, I just got a call.
Apparently, there was some youth group that was associated with the camp.
They bussed in juvenile delinquents from rough neighborhoods every summer for two weeks.
St.
Abigail's Angels.
That's promising, right? Well, the guy who ran it, he works here in the city and I got him coming in now.
Hey.
You think the two of them ever had a chance? What got you thinking in on that? Well, you know, if I had to bet and go all in on one couple, it would've been them.
[indistinct chatter.]
Do you know where my daughter is? Do you know where Larissa is? Mom, I already told you, they said they don't have any new information.
Ma'am, my name is Detective Frank Sullivan.
I'm with the NYPD.
NYPD? What're you doing all the way up here? We're looking into a case that, uh, may or may not be related to Larissa's disappearance.
What case? Ma'am, I'm really not at liberty to say.
Uh, it's an ongoing investigation.
Is it that serial killer? The Nightingale? That's his name, right? I keep hearing about him on the news.
Tell me that animal did not take my daughter.
- Mrs.
Abbott, I - Please, if you know anything.
I just need to know that she's okay.
We're doing everything that we can.
Okay? I promise you.
But I'm gonna need some help from you.
Can you do that? [tense music.]
Take as long as you need.
[music box chiming.]
So how long has St.
Abigail's Angels been around? Well, I started it up in the late '80s.
At St.
Abigail's Church in Manhattan.
I'm a deacon there.
We cater to at-risk kids in the neighborhood, try to keep them off the streets as best we can.
You know, volunteer work, sports, field trips, stuff like that.
That include the camp? I, uh I worked for the folks who ran Hideaway back in the '80s.
Real nice people.
One year, I asked them if they were open to hosting the kids a couple weeks out of the summer, and they were all for it.
And that's why it kills me to think the Nightingale had anything to do with this place.
Any of your Angels ever act out while they were up there? Listen, these kids have been dealde a pretty crappy hand in life.
But at the end of the day, they're good kids.
We're just running down every possibility.
No, I get it.
You need to turn over every stone.
Well, I'd be lying to you if I said some of them weren't in rougher shape than others.
That's why I called.
Well, we were hoping that the church could provide us with paperwork on all these kids.
From the early '90s? Yeah.
Yeah, I can have a look.
We appreciate that.
Thanks.
You're welcome.
[dark music.]
This is the, uh, third time in two years you've tried to hurt yourself.
You want to talk about why you're back in here? You know, we can't help you unless you decide to help yourself.
You people can't help me.
You'll only make it worse.
You always do.
What makes you say that? I need to go.
- Now.
- No, you know you can't do that.
You're here for another 36 hours, so why don't we just Then I need my cell phone back.
Need to make a call? I can do that.
But, uh, I'll need to supervise, okay? [dial tone drones.]
Never mind.
[Hootie and the Blowfish's "I Only Wanna Be With You" playing.]
Raim? Raimy! - Hey.
- What? I thought I told you to put your clothes away? - And I did.
- Really? Then why am I still looking at them? It's my room.
What difference does it make? Hey, excuse me.
I'm not asking a lot here.
I just want you to put the clothes away.
I have homework.
I'll put them away later.
[dramatic music.]
Did you talk to Mom? Mom? No, why? What's something wrong? No.
So what'd you find? I found diaries.
All the way from, uh, '85 to when she was taken in '94.
Um, I'll start there and work my way back.
She wrote a lot about a hometown boyfriend.
- Mateo Rivera, right? - Yeah.
Yeah, I read about him in the police report.
Word was, he beat her, but they could never make a case.
- He had an alibi.
- Yeah, well, so did O.
J.
There's some messed up stuff in here about Mateo.
And she tore out some pages, so if she left this in, I want to see what she took out.
I'm gonna head up there and see what I can find out.
Any camp stuff in her room? Uh, yeah, a little bit, you know.
There's some arts and crafts, coffee mug from somebody named Meghan.
That's about it.
Meghan.
Camp friend? Yeah, I asked Larissa's mom, but she didn't know who she was.
I'll see what I can find out.
[gunfire on TV.]
Ugh, this game freaking cheats! - Gordo? - Uh-huh? You mind turning that down? How 'bout a little "ready player two"? In a minute, I just have some more work to do.
- [doorbell rings.]
- [groans.]
Raim, it's Sunday fun day! It's our time-honored tradition, and I've been dying all week to play this game with you.
Come on! [gunfire on TV resumes.]
They were out of pepperoni, so I got sausage, instead.
I hope that's okay.
But you like Hefeweizen, right? Oh, hey.
Kyle.
How's it going? - I'm, uh, Raimy's - Work friend.
Gordo.
Raimy's non-sexual life partner.
I'm so sorry.
I completely forgot about tonight.
Oh.
Okay, uh, no no worries.
Um look, I don't want to interrupt you guys.
Ah, da, da, da.
- Is that pizza from Cheech's? - Yeah.
That Hef? - Yeah.
- Oh, you're not interrupting.
You're my new non-sexual life partner.
Kyle, was it? Come here, Kyle.
- Wait a minute, is this, uh - Yep.
I've been dying to play.
Supposed to be awesome, right? Ready player two.
Raim, you're on deck.
- Damn it! - Oh! Oh, I'm I'm sorry.
Was that your head I eviscerated? Eat me.
Raimy likes people to think she's this hard-ass Furiosa type, but deep down, she's just a big softie.
Oh, my God, when she was 11, she used to kiss her poster of Lance Bass every night before she went to bed.
- Wait a minute, isn't he - No one knew that back then.
[laughs.]
Her first of many imaginary boyfriends.
[doorbell rings.]
[giggles.]
- Ready player two.
- Mm-hmm.
[gunfire on TV.]
Hey, stranger.
One one second.
- Yup.
- One second.
[gunfire on TV continues.]
Hey, guys? - Right yeah! - There you are! Oh, this is a part we've never been on.
I'll be right back.
[gunfire on TV continues.]
- Dude, how did you - Reload, and - [explosion on TV.]
- Both: Oh! Daniel, what're you doing here? Says the crazy stalker girl who keeps popping in my life every five minutes.
How'd you know where I live? [sighs.]
'Cause of In Internet.
Hey, how many Raimy Sullivans do you think live in Queens? [whispers.]
Five.
Are you drunk? I am un-sober, yeah.
Which, you know, is your fault, by the way.
What? Well [laughs.]
No, you Uh [dramatic music.]
I can't get you out of my head.
Do you always do this? Just drive home strangers that show up your doorstep, wasted? [light rock music playing.]
You're not a stranger.
I'm stalking you, remember? [chuckles.]
Yeah.
[sighs.]
This is crazy.
God, this is crazy, wh what the hell am I doing here? I I've got a great life.
I've got a cool job.
I've got an awesome apartment.
I've got a What? Nothing.
[tense music.]
Raimy! Raimy? We can't help it if we like to play Did you hear me calling you? Hey! I want to know right now what happened to this glove.
Did you cut it up? Young lady, this glove cost me a lot of money, so you better tell me right now what has gotten into you.
It doesn't matter! You can tell Coach Ted that I don't want to play softbofl anymore.
I quit.
What? Uh, this is me.
Are you sure you're okay? I'm great.
Sorry, I just, uh I needed to know what that felt like.
Oh, God.
Oh! Oh, okay.
Okay, yeah.
Yeah.
[police radio chatter.]
Fellas.
Checking in.
Y'all good? All good, Frank.
What's up? Don't shoot the messenger, all right? I'm only doing what I'd appreciate another guy doing for me.
No study buddy tonight? [sighs.]
You scared the hell out of me.
What're you doing here? I just wanted to tuck Raimy in.
It's 11:15, Frank.
Wanted to actually make sure you were really here.
What? What're you why wouldn't I be? I don't know.
'Cause sometimes you're not.
It's cool, you're gonna do your thing, right? I just ask that you keep our daughter's welfare in mind like you asked me to.
What are you talking about? You do realize that protective detail sees everything, right? Wow.
Do your little secret agents send you videotapes, or are they just written reports? Hey, I don't have to justify my actions to you, Frank.
You gave up that right a long time ago.
See, but you do when it comes to our daughter.
Raimy will be fine.
It was one kiss.
He caught me off guard, and I didn't mean for her to see it, and it won't happen again.
End of story.
You kissed that guy in front of our daughter? Are you for real right now? All all your lectures about protecting her, about how no one is gonna come between me and her, and now this? Get out.
- This? - Get out! - Are you - Get out! Go! [dramatic music.]
[groans.]
[toilet flushes.]
[sighs.]
[sighs.]
You want to do this again sometime? How could you possibly resist? Standard Hotel.
Yeah, I'm, uh I'm obsessed.
And that hotel's a modern marvel of architecture.
I think if he were alive today and saw it Le Corbusier would shed a tear.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
Wow, you're almost as pretentious as I am.
I'm gonna grab you some aspirin.
Mm, yep.
Yeah, yeah, good call.
It's, uh, it's not in the medicine cabinet Dopp kit under the sink.
Got it.
Sullivan.
Come here.
Deacon Joe called.
Gave us a list of names from his program.
We ran 'em all through the database.
Got any winners? Well, most of 'em seemed to turn their lives around but this guy.
Vincent Davis.
He got a disorderly conduct and a few second degree assault charges.
He's in Brooklyn.
Let's go.
[dramatic music.]
Mateo Rivera? Yeah? Detective Frank Sullivan, NYPD.
Mind if I ask you a few questions? [intercom buzzes.]
Can I help you? Maybe.
We're looking for a Vincent Davis.
You got him.
I told the police up here a thousand times, I had nothing to do with Larissa's disappearance.
I was at my sister's that night.
But you two were still seeing each other when she went missing, is that correct? Yeah.
Barely.
And she called the cops on you more than a couple of times, right? - Yeah.
- Because you beat her.
Is that correct? Mind if we ask Drunk driving.
Paralyzed from the waist down.
- When? - 14 years ago in January.
When I think of the way I treated her, I I loved her.
You call that love? Really, man? I know how it sounds.
But I did.
And I swear, nothing ever went down between us until I found those pictures.
What pictures? You attended the Hideaway Mountain Camp when you were younger, that right? Church took some of us up there in the summers.
It was super Bible thumper, but, uh I didn't care.
The place was awesome.
You remember Larissa Abbott? No.
Wait, was she the nurse? Yeah.
- '90 to '92.
- Okay.
Nurse Larissa.
She was hot, right? - Everyone loved her.
- Anybody too into her? Obsessed, maybe? Naw, I don't know.
I found these pictures of her one day naked.
She wouldn't tell me who took them and I knew there was somebody else and So you just busted her lip, you bruised her shoulder, you gave her a black eye? Yeah, that ain't love, pal.
I got some pictures, too.
You want to take a look at them? Do these look familiar to you? Hmm? You want to see another one? I didn't kill her, I swear.
What about, uh what about Larissa's friend, Meghan? Meghan.
I Meghan.
Meghan is a friend from camp.
Ring a bell? Yeah, uh that screwed-up girl that Larissa was trying to help out a while ago.
Screwed-up how? I think she cut up her own arms or something? By any chance, do you remember a Meghan while you were there? - There was Scarlet St.
Meghan.
- Who? Some crazy campfire story some of the other kids were telling.
About a creepy-ass girl that walked naked through the camp, bleeding from her arms.
When was this? I think they said it went down the year before.
'91, right when camp started in June.
- She a camper? - No idea.
No one really knew who she was and no one ever saw her again after that.
That's what they told me.
Larissa's diary.
June 28th, 1991.
"I still can't believe what happened today" Meghan walked through the camp, totally naked.
" Both: "Her arms where all cut up.
" She was about to walk straight into afternoon mass in front of everyone, but I saw her first.
No! Thank God only a few kids saw her.
I brought her to the infirmary.
She was shaking so much.
I tried to calm her down.
I asked her if someone did this to her.
She told me she did it to herself.
"But she wouldn't say why.
The only thing she said was" I just want him to leave us alone.
Hey, I'm gonna go get you some clothes.
I ran to get her some clothes, but when I got back, she was gone.
Both: "She was so broken inside.
So scared.
" "I hope she's okay.
" Who was she so afraid of? - Him.
- Him? The Nightingale? Maybe.
I went back through the database of names from the camp.
There wasn't one Meghan.
This girl's a ghost.
[ominous music.]
[fire alarm ringing.]
- Task Force.
- Hello.
I have information about the Nightingale killer.
- Name? - My name is Meghan [phone clicks.]
Get up.
No, I I have information about the Nightingale killer.
I need to talk to them - You need to calm down - No, I need to talk to them And come with me.
We're gonna talk to Dr.
Goldberg about your little fire drill.
No, please.
Please, I just need to talk to them.
Just let me talk to them! Please! I just started my shift outside.
Guy said you wanted to see me.
You see what I'm doing here, Frank? The dishes.
Know what I did before this? I made dinner.
Know what I did before that? I went grocery shopping and I bought the food for dinner.
You know what I did before that? I deposited the paychecks I earned from working double shifts at the hospital so I could pay for the food for dinner for your daughter.
Okay, I get it.
I'm not the bad guy.
All I've ever done is what's best for her.
And don't you dare try to tell me otherwise.
- Jules, I'm not - Letting her see that kiss, that was a mistake, and I own that.
But while you've been off playing Superman, I'm the one that's been there for her.
Okay, I am a damn good mother and and I deserve to try to be happy.
And if you can't handle that, tough.
I know, I what do you what do you want me to say? I'm I'm jealous, all right? Well, that's your problem, not mine! - I know! - Mommy? - Um, just - Hey.
can you, uh, give me a second, sweetie? - I'm, uh I'll tuck Raimy in.
- Yeah.
Yeah, I'll be up in a minute to give you a kiss, okay? Okay, come on, Raimes.
[solemn music.]
[sighs.]
Hey.
Hey.
That all I get for a workplace drop by? Hellos and good-byes aren't really your thing, huh? I'm sorry about the other night.
Dinner's on me.
[chuckles.]
You're spoiling me rotten, Sullivan.
Well, when you're done with that, I'm putting you to work.
We're combing through and searching for any mention of a girl named Meghan.
Meghan have a last name? She does not.
[chuckles.]
[chuckles.]
You were right.
You're a damn good mother.
You've always been there for Raimy ever since the beginning.
Even when we were dumb, scared teenagers, staring down at this little ball of life, you You were always on top of everything.
Be honest.
Would you really have married me if it weren't for Raimy? What? Yes, of course I would have.
Nobody had a gun to my head.
We loved each other.
It was real.
What about you? Would you have married me? Yeah.
But I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I thought about what my life could've been if had taken a different path.
But anytime I'm with Raimy, even the hard times, I'm so grateful for the life that I have.
I'm so grateful for her.
Me too.
I don't know, I I think I thought when, uh when I went undercover, you know, it's gonna mean another promotion, more money.
I thought it was best for her, you know? For all of us.
Somewhere along the way, I it became what was best for me.
I-I don't think I wanted to admit it, but I changed.
We both did.
Right? And maybe that's just growing up.
Or growing apart.
I don't know.
What're we thinking here? Hey, I wish I could say I've been doing this longer than you have, but I don't have any more answers than you do.
I do know that whatever our drama is, Raimy needs to be kept out of it.
Maybe what's best for her is what's best for us, huh? Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
[dramatic music.]
- Frank, you there? - Yeah.
Yeah, I am, I'm here.
I've hit a wall with this Meghan stuff.
I've got nothing, you? No.
- I did find something, though.
- What's that? Some bedroom shots of Larissa.
You know, her boyfriend had said yesterday, that there was somebody he said he didn't take 'em.
Then who did? That's a good question.
I keep thinking about Larissa's family.
Carmen's family.
The Nightingale tore them apart, Raimes.
He's not gonna do that to us.
No, he's not.
Did you talk to Mom? [scoffs.]
Yeah.
Yeah, we had a party.
Come on.
I found out about Coach Ted and your mom.
Yeah.
You knew about that? I was there.
Huh.
Thanks for the heads-up.
[chuckles.]
It's not my business.
It's your marriage.
And I'm only eight years old, remember? Fair enough.
We did finally figure something out.
What? The only thing we agree on is you.
[chuckles.]
And the only thing we can agree on is her.
What're you gonna do? Did you know that I had to ask your mom out four times before she finally said yes? Ouch.
I know.
She was so out of my league, Raimes.
We both knew it.
Means I just had to try that much harder, you know? So three mixtapes and a dime store bracelet later, she finally said yes.
[chuckles.]
I won her over once and I'm gonna do it again.
If someone's the one, Raimes you got to swing for the fences, you know? Yeah.
Meghan? Before we speak, there's someone here who I'd like to join us.
[dark music.]
Hi, Meghan.
Dr.
Goldberg gave me a call.
How you feeling? You can't keep doing this.
I really hoped you were getting better.
We all did.
But another suicide attempt and these wild stories.
It's clear that you're not.
Dr.
Goldberg and I had a long talk, and we both agree.
You need long-term care.
We want you to really focus on getting better.
No.
You can't do this.
You're still a threat to yourself, Meghan, and I really think this is the best path to your recovery.
We are not gonna give up on you.
No! No, please! Please! - Meghan - This man is a monster! He's gonna kill me! Please! He's gonna kill me.
Please! - Meghan, it's okay.
- [crying.]
On TV: If I ate 100 jelly rolls, would I explode? [yelping.]
I must have peace, Pinky! Why don't you use this time to acquire a hobby? You mean like restoring World War II aircraft? Zoom! - [light pop music.]
- There's a storm tonight Run for your life There's time to save it all Hitting go tonight And so it starts The rise follows the fall There's a sound tonight And it's paradise And nothing can drown it out Run where Don't run Where don't run Where the lights are Run where Don't run Where don't run Where the lights are beautiful Run where the lights Are beautiful Where don't run Where don't run Where the lights are Run where don't run - Where don't run - Where the lights are beautiful
