Ghost Wars (2017) s01e13 Episode Script

...My Soul to Keep

Previously on "Ghost Wars" We've been overrun by a shit ton of rage-fueled ghosts.
I'm Daphne Holt, CEO of Lambda, and I'm going to solve your ghost problem.
They're capable of accessing our memories.
Everyone who tries to leave either ends up back here or dead.
Hey! The town needs you, kid.
Nothing personal! Before I give you the artifact, you have to help figure out how to get all these people off this island.
Guys! Roman, take it apart.
You are totally going to miss me.
Yeah.
I'm not exactly swimming in friends here.
Woah! Oops.
Awkward.
How did you know? Ah, genius here has been bragging about ditching this place and flying out of here before anyone figured out what happened.
Cat got your tongue, junior? Look, we don't have a problem with you guys.
We got roped into something we didn't sign up for.
Sorry.
Sorry is right.
Nah, you're gonna take us with you on that whirly bird.
We can't do that.
[DISTANT GUN SHOTS.]
Oh, shit.
Not again! Help us! - Help us! - Come on! Hey! Hey! Hey! [GUNFIRE.]
[INDISTINCT YELLING.]
Finally.
I really hate this place.
[INDISTINCT YELLING.]
Let's go.
Pitch forward.
What the hell? Oh, shit! Oh, shit! [YELLING.]
[CRASH.]
I just shit my I just shit my pants.
Boys! [BARKING.]
There goes your ride, lady.
I had no idea they were gonna pull something like this.
[GUNSHOT.]
Jesus.
Jesus can't help him now.
They're winning.
You know, it's time to pull out all the stops, right? I mean, it's time for the Hail Mary.
Who's got something? Roman? I've got nothing.
Landis, you're so fricken' smart, you had a plan the other day.
No, I had an idea the other day.
That was before Roman reassembled the artifact and killed everyone.
Except Roman.
Okay, keep the wheels turning, babe.
Okay, this is this is just but what if we put the whole artifact back in the accelerator? We blast it.
We reverse the process.
But isn't that how we got in this mess in the first place? The last time it was incomplete.
It was only a portion of the artifact.
You said it yourself.
It broke on impact, right? What if it has to be intact in order to re-open death's door? It's the properties of the artifact that created the event.
How do we know putting it back together is gonna make it any better? Well, I'm voting for Landis's plan.
Yeah, I don't think it's 100 percent but I'm going for Landis.
Well, it's a good thing it's not a democracy.
There's a small wrinkle.
Wrinkle? What do you mean, "wrinkle"? In order to fire up the accelerator we have to cut power to the whole town.
Ghosts will have free reign? How are we gonna defend ourselves? There's a way.
We can fix this.
Re-open death's door and expel the ghosts, but But what? In order to do it some of you are going to have to die.
So you want me to kill people? Well, technically Roman's killing them.
Yeah.
You would, uh, be bringing them back to life.
You'd be saving them.
But why do we have to kill someone in the first place? It might be the only way to save the town.
It might not work.
But we gotta fight these ghosts somehow.
- Yeah.
- And how exactly is this supposed to work? Well, Roman's gonna reassemble the artifact.
The one we used to save Abigail.
Rip the souls from enough people to defend against the ghosts while we open death's door.
- Death's door? - Yeah, Val.
I've seen it.
It's real.
Okay, well I suppose the obvious question is who? Who's dying? Who am I bringing back? Hey.
Big night.
Um you know I respect Daphne.
I know you two have gotten close.
What what're you saying, Dr.
Clark? I'm concerned she's not gonna honor her promise.
You think she wants the artifact? I'm sure of it.
If we're successful, hell, even if we're not, I think she's gonna try to find a way to get it out of Port Moore.
How can you be certain? She's dying, Roman.
- Jesus.
- Yeah.
You can't cheat death, right? Change the rules of death.
The artifact is key.
Okay, everybody quiet down.
Hi, Val, Billy.
All right, thank you.
Thanks, everyone, for coming.
What's left of us.
We put up a good fight, and I don't need to tell you that this could be the end of the line for Port Moore.
Like my brother would say, there's one slice of hope in this shit sandwich.
We've got our own version of a D-Day plan.
To take the fight to the ghosts before it's too late.
You're up, Billy.
You all know what happened to me.
I was dead and then I was alive and uh, what happened in the in between just might save our collective asses.
Roman and his special rock means that we can jump into the ghost world and take 'em all on.
Yeah, look.
What Billy's trying to say is we need volunteers to take the battle to these bastards.
Starting with me.
Hey, what? Val.
I made up my mind, Billy.
Here, let's go.
Let's go.
As mayor it's only fair that I go if I'm asking for volunteers.
So I figure it'll take about four of us to make this thing happen so who's with me? I'm good.
What? I've already died twice, right? Isn't that enough for you people? I mean, how many times do I gotta kick the bucket to get some respect? Fine, fuck it.
Volunteer.
All right.
Who else? It's my plan so I'll go.
Well, at least we're gonna get to die together.
Yeah, you're not helping, babe.
Thanks, Landis.
That's three.
Come on.
Does anyone else care enough about this shit hole to fight for it? Count me in.
[CROWD MURMURS.]
Uh, if I could get your attention, please.
You should all hunker down here at the Chieftain while we try to pull this off.
The town's gonna lose power, but the generators will be running here so I guess that's it.
It's been a real honor serving as your mayor.
I'm proud of this town.
I'm proud of how hard we fought.
No matter what happens, you should all be proud, too.
We shall defend this island no matter what the cost.
We shall fight in the fields, in the streets, and in the hills.
And we shall never surrender.
[APPLAUSE.]
Here, here.
- Winston Churchill.
- Thanks, Doug.
You got it, Val.
You're gonna need somebody to run the accelerator.
It won't buy any protection for you.
If this doesn't work out it's not gonna matter anyway.
I'll be fine.
Roman will be there to make sure everything goes according to plan.
Start in the morning.
What do we do in the meantime? What any self-respecting soldier does before battle.
We get shit faced.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on! Vietnam, second battalion, fifth marines.
I did two tours so my kid brother didn't have to go.
This is probably the closest I'm gonna get to that.
Assuming you don't screw the pooch.
I want you back at head office working with my team.
Wow.
I'm I'm flattered, but No, I will not accept anything other than a yes.
Let's survive this first.
If that happens I will give you an answer.
Hey.
Mmm.
What're you doing? You okay? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm just uh I'm just worried I'm gonna let everyone down.
Roman, you have done more for this town than you'll ever realize.
Thanks.
It's just with Father Dan gone, I just wanna honour him, you know? Well, he he's like a father Father to you.
What about your real dad? You never talk about him.
Didn't know him.
Wasn't around much or you didn't even know who he was? I didn't even know who he was.
Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
I mean, Nadine, she got around back in the day.
I mean, some of the guys were pretty sketchy, no offense.
No, it sounds like you're talking from experience.
- We had a fling.
- Oh, my God.
- We we did.
- Stop.
We were we were young.
Um, no harm, no foul.
We both knew what it was.
Small towns, Roman.
A lot happens, you know? I mean, ancient history now.
It was before you were born I'm gonna go to the head I'm gonna yeah, I'm gonna go outside instead.
You better be thinking clearly about this.
What're you talking about? This hair-brained scheme they've cooked up.
And you actually helping them try to pull it off.
I know what I'm doing.
Do you? What, you don't trust me? Let's play it out.
You run these spirits out of town.
You manage to get things back to normal here.
That means you're back to being normal.
Or, as these folks prefer to call you, freak.
I won't let them use you, Roman.
I won't let them hurt you, or worse.
I see.
Do you? This town belongs to us now, Roman.
- We're all gonna die.
- [SCOFFS.]
No.
We're not.
Would it really be that bad? Shane, what'd I tell you about talking? Don't.
Exactly.
Val said they'd get it done.
We gotta have faith.
Faith? Who the hell are you, and what have you done to Doug Rennie? Um peace offering? Oh, thank Christ.
Yeah.
I suppose you wanna stay here now.
Yeah, that'd be great, Doug.
Yes, sir.
Abigail McGrath-Dufresne do not touch that.
Careful, peanut.
Girls, come here.
Come over here.
Hey, come on.
What's going on? Nothing.
Look, we're gonna be together the whole time, right? Yeah.
It's not that.
We're all scared.
But you've done this before.
Yeah.
Here.
It's uh I mean What is this? When I first went in, Landis, I started to break down.
Decaying physically.
I was dying and I was turning into one of them.
But when I came back I was fine.
And then Roman, he did that thing with the artifact, it's it's kind of everywhere.
- I mean, I've gotta tell Val.
- No.
- Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I do.
- No, you can't.
They have the right to know what's going on with me, - what could happen to them.
- No.
It is not gonna change anything and it will just terrify them.
There's no back-up plan here, Billy.
Okay? We do this or we die.
We cannot risk anyone backing out.
Not right now.
It ain't right.
None of this is right, babe.
None of this is right.
Okay? But what choice do we have? Saving this town means this war might not spread beyond this island.
Have you even thought about what that looks like? End of the world type shit.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
We're in.
We're out.
It's Val's first time.
It won't be enough to hurt her.
Okay guys, um, in a couple minutes I'm gonna reassemble the artifact and when that happens everyone in the general vicinity is gonna get their soul ripped out of their body.
Uh, Marilyn, you might wanna have the girls away - when that happens.
- But I wanna stay with Mommy Val.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
We talked about this, remember? Uh, when we're done here, uh, I'll meet you guys all back at Lambda.
Dr.
Clark is preparing the accelerator as we speak.
All you have to do is put it in the chamber and close it.
He'll start it up remotely.
Bye, sweet pea.
- Bye, pumpkin.
- Bye.
So how do we get to Lambda? Oh, don't worry, sis.
Just stick with me.
We leave no man behi woman, person.
Any last words, guys? We gotta move.
- Okay.
- Yeah, lay down.
Come on.
Just remember, you need to be back at your body before the artifact breaks apart or you won't have a body to come back to.
Girls, we gotta go.
Let's go.
Quickly.
Holy shit.
Incredible.
Okay, we need to do this quickly.
Everybody close your eyes.
Visualize the accelerator room at Lambda now.
See you on the other side, kids.
Okay, they're on the move.
I can't believe this.
Come on, Roman.
Come on.
Are you sure you've stripped all the excess cables? He can't hear you.
You know, if they can haunt us we should be able to haunt them.
- Approaching Lambda.
- Finally.
Dr.
Clark, have you secured the power plant? - There can't be anyone in my way.
- All clear.
Elvis is leaving the building.
What's happening? The defense grid is down.
Holy shit.
Game on, ladies.
Game on.
Damn, these fuckers are more angry than I remember.
We weren't trying to wipe them out.
No.
I can feel them pushing against me.
- Me too.
- Okay, okay.
Just stand your ground.
Hang in there.
If you can hear me we could really use some help in here.
All set, Roman.
Okay.
let's get this over with.
Yeah, good.
The ghosts are getting restless, Roman.
Yeah, yeah, I know.
Okay, once this thing gets started there's no turning back.
No.
And we really need to stay together to resist the pull from death's door.
And then the plan is to send the artifact through the door, right? - Yep, that's what we agreed.
- Yeah, that's the plan.
Okay, let's go, Roman.
Come on, let's start this thing.
Clock's a tickin'.
Walking it up.
All right, Edward, all you.
Commencing power down.
We're in full battery mode.
Okay, here we go.
[ENERGY BLAST.]
[WIRES EXPLODING.]
[CROWD MURMURS.]
All right, everybody.
If this fails, we're gonna have a lot of pissed off ghosts coming in here after us.
This is it.
We're done, aren't we? Have faith, Winston.
Have faith.
With everything that's happened? We're still here, aren't we? Blind luck is what that is.
When this is all over this town's gonna go back to normal, right? This town's never been normal.
Where's this door, Billy? You said it was here.
I know I did, and it was, Val.
I'm telling you.
Maybe you got the location wrong.
Well, then you're not telling me something, Daphne.
Do you have another one of these things hidden around here? Because if you don't, this is where the door was.
- It must have moved.
- Yeah, well, look.
- We need to find it.
- It could be anywhere.
Well, we better get started.
Don't worry, babe.
It's just me looking for death's door.
Hey! - You guys find anything? - Nothing.
No, I haven't been able to find this goddamn thing.
Same.
I haven't seen any ghosts, either.
Me neither.
Maybe it worked? You feel that? - Feel what? - Landis? No.
Something's not right.
Jesus.
What happened to you? - It's getting worse, babe.
- Yeah.
What's getting worse? What is that? It happened to me the last time I was dead.
- Billy - Val.
Now's not the time, okay? We need to stick to the plan.
Did it work? I'm not sure.
The ghosts are gone.
Oh, wait.
Wait, hold on.
- What'd you guys find? - There's no sign of a door anywhere.
- What about ghosts? - None.
It must have worked.
I think we may have opened the door.
Son of a bitch.
We gotta go.
We're getting outta here.
Elevators, let's go.
[SCREAMING.]
Oh, shit! Oh, my God! Oh! Come on! Fuck! You think something as big as death's door would be obvious.
Describe it again.
It was a big blue light and it was calling to me.
And the closer I got, the brighter the light became.
When did you see it? I told you, babe.
When I was dead.
Yes, but how dead? You were on the table, we thought we were losing you.
The deterioration had almost completely covered my whole body and I was this close from you know.
It's not a where, babe.
It's a when.
No, no, no, guys.
This isn't a time travel story.
No.
It's not, Val.
But you know what? I was dying.
I was dying and I was being pulled to a place and it was physical.
Know what? Death's door can only be reached when you truly die.
[DOOR OPENS, CLOSES.]
I just arrived.
I'll tell her now.
Tell me what? We've hit a bit of a snag.
What, exactly? Tell me.
Someone has to physically die in order to open the door.
You call that a snag? - You don't have to do this.
- I do, Val.
I'm the only one who's been close, right? You all know I'm in trouble.
I've already got one foot in the grave.
Landis.
Babe, we don't know that for certain, okay? It's okay.
I'll do it.
I'm dying anyway.
I spent my whole life trying to cheat death.
It's time I learned to embrace it.
Sorry for your situation, Daphne, but this isn't a debate.
You have a billion ways that you can change your situation, hopefully, but I can't.
I can't change a thing.
Inside or out.
I mean, I'm dying.
And uh, I've done a lot of wrong things in my life and I I regret it.
But it's taken me a while to figure out how to do some things right.
And now it's time to do something really right.
And you'll have to forgive me but I'm not gonna let anyone steal my fucking moment.
Okay, Roman.
Who's it gonna be? [GENERATOR FAILING.]
- Oh, my God.
- That's not good.
They better tell us soon.
Uh, yeah, okay.
All right.
Hey, guys, um they're attacking the church.
Marilyn and the girls.
- I I gotta go.
- Yeah.
You're gonna be fine, Billy.
You're gonna you're gonna make your way through this.
You always do.
I can get around the system, Val, you're right, but this is a different kind of dance.
I love you.
- I know.
- You know that.
I do.
I love you, too.
Hey, you take care of peanut and sweet pea, and Marilyn, and the town.
I got it.
You're with me.
[WHISPERING.]
I'm sorry.
What are we doing? You have to kill Billy in order for this to work.
What? Are you joking? I don't joke.
Shit.
Mom, please.
It's okay.
It's okay.
- I'll stay as long as I can.
- Good.
What're we waiting for, Roman? For you to die, apparently.
Okay, Edward, um you, uh, need to get Marilyn to kill Billy.
I can't do this.
I can't be the one to do this.
I'm sorry.
I can.
Wha what do I do? This button is your trigger.
Look through here.
- Watch my back.
- Okay.
Girls, girls, come be with me.
I'm so sorry.
[GROANS.]
- You okay? - That's not good.
What was it? This is some hyperspace shit.
Thank you, Billy.
Okay, this is it.
And we're moving.
We don't have a lot of time.
You can't do anything the easy way, can you? Apparently not.
Why are you doing this, again? You've already said it, Landis.
We don't have a back-up plan.
If we don't do this then we're all gonna die.
I said that? Something like that.
Well, I take it back.
You can't, baby.
Hey, you're not gonna want to be around for this part.
I love you.
I love you.
I hope this doesn't take much longer.
No, get down! Protect the girls! - [SCREAMS.]
Mommy! - Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay? Roman, you gotta go.
You gotta get the others back near their bodies before this whole thing blows open, right? Yeah, Billy, I'll take care of them.
Um, I guess this is goodbye then.
Yeah, I guess it is, kid.
For what it's worth, I hope you're right.
Yeah? Right about what? About being my dad.
I am.
Val just told me.
That's why you're so good-looking.
[LAUGHS.]
But I am sorry.
What are you sorry for? For being my dad? No, no.
Not that.
I'm sorry I gave you so much grief.
Because it's because of me my old man ran your mother out of town.
She knew that I was your father and she told him - and wanted to blackmail him and - No, that's okay.
Don't think you would have been much of a dad considering you're such a mess.
You got that right.
You're a good man, Billy McGrath.
This fucking town, man.
Sometimes I wonder if it's worth saving at all.
Holy shit.
Holy shit, indeed.
What happened to the ghosts? They're disappearing.
Back to our bodies.
Quick.
Go see Mom.
- Daphne! - Mommy! Go see Mom.
Hey, girls.
Hey.
Are you okay? It worked.
It worked.
Okay, come on, Daphne.
Daphne? She didn't make it to her body in time.
I'm sorry.
[GASPS.]
Oh.
What'd I miss? [LAUGHING.]
We gotta put this town back together.
And you need a new sheriff.
What, are you suggesting I'm volunteering.
It's just my way of giving back and making amends.
It's uh, it's time.
Thanks.
We'll talk about this later.
Hey, guys.
Got your drinks? We made it.
Uh what can I say about my brother, Billy McGrath, that he wouldn't have bragged about himself? He sacrificed everything for this town.
A town he used to say that he hated.
But also a town I know that he loved.
Just like he loved many of you.
Billy, we're gonna miss you.
To Billy.
- [CROWD.]
To Billy.
- To Billy.
To Billy.
I'm sorry.
I'll make sure the rest of the outside world knows what Billy did.
His sacrifice.
The outside world.
Hey, looks like your theories are on their way to being published, Dr.
Barker.
So long as they're not duplicated, Dr.
Clark.
I will drink to that.
Oh.
Fuck me.
All because of some stupid rock.
It was right there, you know? The name.
- What is? - Port Moore.
Spanish.
Puerta de la Muerte.
French.
Port de la Mort.
It's not Port Moore.
It's death's door.
And they knew.
200 years ago they knew and they tried to warn us.
Let this be the last warning.
It's all gonna depend on that rock.
Which you have no doubt hidden some place so secure we may never have to contemplate that outcome.
- For Billy.
- Oh, no.
Wait.
I thought that you No.
No.
Don't even.
Where's Daphne? Where's Roman? Uh, I think I saw him and Daphne down by the docks.
- Shit.
- Oh, no.
Dammit.
I told all of you not to trust him from the very beginning.
But none of you would listen to me.
None of you.
She's dying, you know? I know.
But we can use her until a better host comes along.
I told you this would work.
Yes, you did.
Where to next, Maggie? Well, apparently I'm a billionaire with a tech company in Seattle.
Let's start there.
The rest of the world can wait.
[CHILDREN LAUGHING.]
[WHISTLING.]
[WHISTLING.]
