Haunted (2018) s02e06 Episode Script

Born Cursed

1 My name is Oscar Mendoza and I was born cursed.
My parents are from San Felipe, Guanajuato.
This is a town in Central Mexico.
The town itself is extremely rural.
A lot of old traditions.
My family believed, especially my mother's side, believed in brujería, which is "witchcraft.
" Kind of like black magic.
Kind of like black magic, yes.
Or white magic.
Black magic is evil.
Something you have to, like be very cautious of.
In Mexico, the white magic is cleansing.
When my mom was pregnant, she did that cleansing.
You know, when they purify your body from evil energy.
I was born with the caul, which is a medical condition.
Where there's a sac of extra skin around the baby.
My grandmother told my mother that I was born special.
She called it a don.
In Mexican culture, a don is a gift from God.
But also, it could be a curse.
You know, as a child, I didn't know what it was.
I was born in Dallas, and My earliest memory was when my mother left me by myself, and I started venturing outside.
The neighborhood we lived in was really rough.
You can see me.
My mom came running down the street, grabbed me and said, "Dónde estabas cabrón?" In English that means, "Where were you at, asshole?" She was so mad at me.
And she said, "What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at home.
" I told her, "There's a man here.
" And she goes, "Where?" She didn't believe me.
She said it was all in my head.
So, I tried to pretend it didn't happen, and that night I was in my room.
Look at me.
I know you can see me.
It was him.
Exactly the way I remember him.
This big ol' smile These eyes, and this greasy hair He looked at me and then said, "You can see me, boy.
" And I told my mom about what I saw, and my mom just said, "Just ignore it.
" And you used to tell me, "Something's here," when we were younger, but I didn't believe you.
I thought you were just being a kid with your imaginary friends all the time.
I wish it was my imagination.
But it wasn't.
Every night, he came back.
He had a rope around his neck.
So I called him the Hangman.
He just sat there and looked at me.
It started to affect me.
I never slept.
It was evil.
Yeah, after that, I knew I was really cursed.
Later on that summer, my parents took me to Mexico.
I hadn't been a kid in such a long time, that a vacation was something I really needed.
It was an escape from my daily hell.
And I prayed to God the curse wouldn't follow me.
We ended up staying in my grandfather's house, and, every year, we'd go to celebrate the Fiesta of San Felipe.
We were in front of the house.
There was a parade coming through.
And all of a sudden, we hear a commotion.
There were, like, a troupe of clowns that were hit by a car.
I remember that huge smile, and I knew that it was the same evil energy of the Hangman.
Whatever I have it followed me to Mexico.
And I'm not the only one seeing these things anymore.
We all saw this - clown - Yeah.
Yeah.
with this big smile.
Yeah, we all saw it.
We made eye contact.
He's just staring at you, like staring into your soul.
It traumatized me, yeah.
So, I knew I wasn't going mad, and I knew I was seeing something.
And then, back at my grandfather's house, it was me, my brother, and my cousin Armando.
And we're recognizing this clown as the same clown that was in the parade, and he was sitting down.
My grandfather hears us screaming.
We found our dog dead.
He killed the dog.
Whatever that thing was broke the dog's neck.
Yeah.
And it wanted us.
- The dog was a friend.
- Like an angel.
It gave its life.
To protect us.
It scared me.
It really scared me because I fear things that can hurt me, that can physically hurt me.
You know, we went on vacation expecting to be safe, and it turns out that it was the opposite.
Coming back from Mexico, the Hangman would come to me every night.
This went on for years, until we moved down the street to a house my father had bought.
When I opened the door, it smelled like death.
First, it killed the dog, now, this thing, he actually touched me.
And then things got worse.
Every time I'd fall asleep, it would hit me.
I would wake up with bruises, on my face, on my arm, scratches.
And one night, it came to me.
But this time, it was different.
I walked into my brother's room.
It said, "I'll take your brother.
" It wanted my little brother.
Whatever I have, or this curse, it wants to hurt my family.
I knew that I had to do something.
But I was getting desperate.
The only thing I could think of was suicide.
That way, it'll leave him alone.
I sat in bed.
I took cough medicine and lay down in bed.
I fell to this darkness.
It was just, like, a slaughterhouse, with meat, with parts of pigs, and knives, and body parts, and animal parts everywhere.
I heard screaming and yelling and people crying.
And I realized: I'm in hell.
You know who I am.
You've always known who I am.
When I woke up, my mom explained that my little brother had found me, and that I was convulsing, and she prayed and prayed and prayed until I came out of it.
After that day it stopped.
He never came back again.
Then, everything became better, my life became better.
It was a whole different me.
You know, I finished high school, then I met my wife.
We started a whole new adventure.
We got married and had kids.
But lately my kids told me they see things.
Is this curse affecting them, too?
