He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) s01e36 Episode Script

City Beneath the Sea

1 [dramatic music.]
I am Adam, Prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull.
This is Cringer, my fearless friend.
Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, "By the power of Grayskull!" [chorus.]
He-Man I have the power! [roaring.]
[He-Man.]
Cringer became the mighty Battle Cat, and I became He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.
Only three others share this secret: our friends the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, and Orko.
Together we defend Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor.
[cackling.]
[chorus.]
He-Man [dramatic music.]
[rumbling.]
[Orn.]
And that's the sixth ship to disappear in the last two weeks.
There's been no trace of them? Not even a single piece of wood, Your Majesty.
It's a real mystery.
And now all the other ships are afraid to sail.
What do you think about all this, Duncan? Well, sire [laughter.]
there've been no storms, and [laughter continues.]
considering the area in question [laughter continues.]
[He-Man.]
You can't get away from me! What in the name of the ancients? [giggling.]
[giggling continues.]
[playful music.]
Adam, it's your fa Aha! Gotcha! The only thing you've got is trouble.
Father, I-I was I was just, uh Adam, if you must carry on like a clown, please do it elsewhere.
You're interrupting important business.
Your Majesty, I'm sure he didn't mean to.
No excuses.
I'm sure you must have something better to do.
- Yes, sir.
- [Randor.]
Then do it and let us get on with protecting the kingdom.
Man-At-Arms! Coming, Sire.
Don't take it too hard, Adam.
These ship disappearances have got him worried.
Ships disappearing? Where? I'll tell you later.
[bright music.]
[snoring.]
[Man-At-Arms.]
Let's just test this.
[engines whirring.]
Perfect.
The whole ship can now be sailed by remote control.
Very impressive.
But wouldn't a crew be simpler? With all these disappearances, the kingdom's short of good sailors.
We can't afford to lose another crew.
- [beeping.]
- All set.
What is this thing anyway? Well, I call it a Sonoscope.
It sends out sound waves which bounce off objects beneath the sea.
The objects then show up on the screen.
See? That's a school of fish.
Fish? There's nothing there but little dots.
[Man-At-Arms.]
That's just an image, Cringer.
It only shows us where the fish are.
Hmm, some invention.
Call me when you've got something that catches fish.
[snoring.]
[laughter.]
Cringer thinks with his stomach.
[Man-At-Arms.]
Hmm, so I've noticed.
You think whatever's causing ships to vanish comes from below the sea? Yes, and with this ship as bait and my Sonoscope, I mean to find out who or what it is.
A sea voyage would probably do Cringer and me a lot of good.
Sea voyage? Oh, but I get seasick.
I was just going to ask you to come, if we can convince the king.
Leave that to me.
All that water, bouncing up and down, up and down.
Oh, I think I'm seasick already.
Cringer, we're still on the dock.
Well, let's keep it that way, shall we? [chorus.]
He-Man Volunteering to go with Man-At-Arms - does you credit, son.
- Thank you, Father.
But I'm afraid it's much too dangerous.
Right.
Absolutely right.
I think a prince should be ready to face danger to protect the kingdom.
Wrong.
Absolutely wrong.
Very well said, Adam.
All right, you can go.
But I want you to be very careful.
I will, Father.
And thank you.
Seeing you take some serious responsibility is thanks enough.
Man-At-Arms? Sire? [Randor.]
The prince is in your care.
What about me? Isn't anybody gonna take care of me? I may not be a prince, but I'm the prince's best friend.
You're also a big coward.
That's what I do best.
[chorus.]
He-Man [adventurous music.]
Ah, what a great trip.
See, Cringer? Not as bad as you thought it would be, is it? [playful music.]
It's worse.
[whimpers.]
[static crackling.]
- Anything yet? - Nothing.
[whirring.]
- I don't believe it.
- What is it? Something big.
More than big.
Here, take a look.
[He-Man.]
Why, it looks almost like [Man-At-Arms.]
A city.
An entire city under the sea.
And it's right below us.
[dramatic music.]
- Something's happening.
- [alarm wailing.]
It's a whirlpool, and it's coming right at us.
[Cringer whining.]
[metal creaking.]
[groaning.]
Man-At-Arms, get out of there, quick! By the power of Grayskull! [chorus.]
He-Man [exciting music.]
He-Man I have the power! [chorus.]
He-Man [roaring.]
Oh, thanks, He-Man.
[chorus.]
He-Man He-Man Our troubles aren't over.
[dramatic music.]
We're about to go for a swim, and I've [chorus.]
He-Man [all coughing.]
I feel like I swallowed half the Harmony Sea.
Well, at least now we know what happened to our ships.
Yes, but I wonder where we are.
[door whooshes.]
You will come with us, surface dwellers.
[Man-At-Arms.]
He-Man, that symbol.
This must be Aquatica.
Aquatica? I thought that was just an old legend.
A very real legend, it seems.
I said come.
[roars.]
We'll go peacefully, Cat.
For now.
[mysterious music.]
Look at those gems.
The legends said this was a city of great wealth.
With this much wealth, why should they attack trading ships? I think we're about to find out.
Why do you bring these surface men here? [guard.]
Our ruler has commanded it.
Hmm.
Who are you? I am He-Man, and I'm here to find out why you've been attacking our ships.
It is your people who attack us.
We only defend ourselves.
That's not true.
We've never You can't fool us.
We know the people of the surface can't be trusted.
[horn blows.]
Our ruler comes.
Kneel, surface men.
Kneel and bow your head before the ruler of Aquatica.
Let's play their game for a minute.
[roaring.]
Calm down, Cat.
You'll get your chance.
I can't wait.
[horn blowing.]
[Mer-Man.]
What a pleasant sight.
[He-Man.]
Mer-Man! Welcome to Aquatica, He-Man.
I have some great things planned for your visit.
[laughs.]
[roars.]
[dramatic music.]
So it's you who's been sinking the king's ships.
Yes, and I plan to keep on doing so until Eternia is mine.
I'm afraid we're going to have to change your plans.
[growls.]
[snapping.]
[crash.]
[roaring.]
No! No! Nice job.
Couldn't have done it without you.
[He-Man.]
And now for you.
You're no threat to me, He-Man, not as long as I hold the Pearl of Power.
[zapping.]
[roaring.]
[grunts.]
[straining.]
Can'tbreakfree.
Your strength is nothing compared to the pearl's magic.
Guards, take them to the arena.
[chorus.]
He-Man [Mer-Man.]
People of Aquatica! Ever since the surface men took away your beloved princess, I've warned you of their evil.
Now proof of that evil stands before us.
He-Man was sent here to attack you, but I, Mer-Man, have stopped him.
That fish-faced liar.
How can they believe him? Look at their faces.
Mer-Man must be using that magic pearl to force them to believe him.
Soon we shall conquer the world above us! But for now, let us enjoy the defeat of He-Man! [zapping.]
[roaring.]
[Mer-Man.]
Let the Lorbos come forth! [claws snapping.]
[Man-At-Arms.]
What kind of horror is that? Not the hungry kind, I hope.
[suspenseful music.]
[Man-At-Arms.]
He-Man, the tail! [zapping.]
He-Man, it's got me.
[straining.]
Haveyou out of therein a minute.
[roaring.]
Thanks, Cat.
That was close.
Look out.
It's coming in for another try.
The Lorbos will take care of them this time.
[He-Man.]
Enough is enough.
[grunting.]
No! You haven't won yet, He-Man.
[crash.]
[He-Man.]
Let's get out of here.
Don't let them get away! [zapping.]
That should slow them down.
[guard.]
They've escaped.
[Mer-Man.]
Get after them, you fools! There's no place they can go! [Shelandor.]
Hmm, this He-Man seems to be just the one I need.
Call out the guards! Search the city! I want He-Man! [warbling tone.]
Which way? One way is as good as another.
[dramatic music.]
Uh-oh.
We've got company.
We're surrounded.
Looks like they've got us.
[booming.]
Come, quickly.
[chorus.]
He-Man [He-Man.]
So your true ruler is Princess Nami.
[Shelandor.]
Yes, Mer-Man captured her and hid her away in the Coral Caverns.
He blamed her disappearance on my people.
I'm afraid so.
But why didn't you tell your people the truth? We Aquaticans have always mistrusted surface people.
That and the magic Pearl of Power forces us to believe Mer-Man's lies.
But you saved us.
I know a spell which allows me to resist the pearl's magic.
And you are the only one who might defeat the monster which guards my princess, if you will try.
We'll try.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You'll have to swim in, but it's not far.
[growls.]
Swim? Why don't you stay here with Shelandor, Cat? We can handle this without you.
If you say so, He-Man.
Good luck.
[chorus.]
He-Man [adventurous music.]
Look.
The princess.
[Man-At-Arms.]
I don't see any monster.
Maybe Shelandor was wrong.
Come on.
Who are you? I am He-Man.
I'm here to rescue you.
But the monster! [water splashing.]
[roaring.]
[zapping.]
[chorus.]
He-Man He-Man [roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man He-Man [exciting music.]
[thud, water splashes.]
[roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man [roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man He-Man [rumbling.]
So much for unfriendly monsters.
You have my thanks, surface man.
If you really want to thank me, Princess, let's get back to Aquatica and surprise Mer-Man.
Nothing would please me more.
[chorus.]
He-Man Why has He-Man not been found? [He-Man.]
Looking for me? No! I believe this belongs to you.
People of Aquatica, Mer-Man has lied to you.
Serve him no longer.
The princess! The princess has returned! All hail Princess Nami! [all cheering.]
If I can't rule Aquatica, then I'll destroy it! [Man-At-Arms.]
Mer-Man is getting away! Let's get him, Cat.
[roaring.]
[chorus.]
He-Man By reversing the power of my whirlpool ray, I'll shake the city to pieces.
[whooshing.]
[zapping.]
[laughing.]
What? Stop that ray now.
Too late, He-Man.
I've destroyed the controls.
Aquatica is doomed.
[He-Man.]
Keep fish-face company, Battle Cat.
I've got to do something about that whirlpool.
Oh, nice kitty.
[whooshing.]
What's happening? Mer-Man must have used his whirlpool ray.
It will destroy the city.
I'm afraid not even He-Man can help us now.
[whooshing.]
Only one chance.
Shelandor, He-Man's trying to move the guardrail.
Come on, move! He's doing it! The spin of the rail is working against the whirlpool.
[whirring.]
Faster.
Got to gofaster! [Nami.]
The guardrail is spinning in the opposite direction, and its force is shattering the whirlpool.
[explosion.]
He-Man, are you all right? Just a little bit dizzy.
Whew.
[chorus.]
He-Man We owe you much, He-Man.
My pleasure, Princess.
- I also owe you an apology.
- What for? If we had not mistrusted you surface people in the first place, Mer-Man could never have tricked us so easily.
Now that you know a little more about us, I hope we can share the ocean in peace.
You have my word on that, He-Man.
[all cheering.]
In today's story, the Aquaticans were afraid to trust us because we looked different from them.
Mer-Man talked them into thinking we were their enemies, and it almost caused great harm.
You should never judge a person by the way he looks but, rather, by the way he behaves.
Because it's what's inside a person that really counts, right? Orko, you're absolutely right.
I always am.
[laughs.]
[dramatic music.]
