Heartland (CA) s06e17 Episode Script

Breaking Point

Amy: Previous on "Heartland": Rich Wannstedt, how the heck have you been? You still runnin' those bronc riding competitions in Montana? I'm actually lookin' to expand up into Alberta.
I could probably come up with a few names you should talk to.
I want you.
I think it's time for a new member of our family.
What are you talkin' about? Georgie.
Phoenix, hey! These horses, they need help.
And what would you want in return? You got him back! And, you know, you were right about Kendra.
Told you.
I can spot a nutbar a mile away.
So, Jack, what do you say? You wanna get back in the game? I'm in.
Let's do it.
That's great! Grandpa, wait up! Look, I know that you're in a hurry, but that is no excuse to skip breakfast.
Oh, Lou, you don't have to go to all that trouble.
I'll just get somethin' at the meeting.
Oh, like what? A donut? A Danish? Nothing but empty calories.
With all of these long hours you've been working you have to start thinking about what you're putting into your body.
What is this? Blueberry protein shake.
And if you know what's good for you, you will drink every last drop.
Oh it's not me.
No, it's me.
Comes with the new job.
Wow.
You're not gonna answer that? Nope.
It's just those guys wonderin' where I am.
I'll get there when I get there.
Have fun.
Will do.
Good! All right, remember to count your strides and look towards your corner as you jump.
There we go! Keep that nice, even pace.
All right, good.
Great job, Georgie! Beautiful! All right, I'm pretty impressed.
Hear that, boy? She's impressed! Good boy! All right, you two, why don't you put a cooler on him and I'll meet you out in the parking lot.
Sure.
Let's go.
Good boy! Hey, pretty soon we're gonna be putting first place ribbons on that stall door! Hey, good boy.
You're actually not half bad.
It would've been fun jumping against you on the circuit.
What do you mean "Would've been?" Look, everybody knows that foster kids don't hang around for long.
It's just a matter of time until this family gets bored of you and kicks you out.
I'm not going anywhere! We'll see about that.
Well, I guess that's it.
We'll talk numbers later in the week then.
And you'll let us know about the contract? Oh, you bet, soon as I talk to Rich.
You have great day.
You too, Jack.
Good dealin' with ya.
Yeah, and spread that around.
Wow! You're the big man around town these days.
Somethin' I can help you with? Can you spare a minute? And by the way, I'm still not over that little confab you had with Miranda, but I'm here about business.
Well, that's good 'cause I'm in business mode.
Well, I think we should start gettin' our cows ready for calving.
Fine, we'll order some supplement.
Well, that's what I wanna talk to you about.
I got a line on some high protein feed at bargain bin prices.
I don't like to skimp on feed.
You buy cheap, who knows what's in the stuff.
It's good quality, Jack, trust me.
We better stick with our regular supplier, Tim.
Well, why don't you hear me out first before you make up your mind.
I have made up my mind: No.
Hey, Rich.
Yeah, we just parted ways.
Now he's askin' about these contracts.
Have you had a chance to look at those yet? But I told you that Georgie's birthday was coming up weeks ago, honey.
Well, I'm sure you can reschedule the appointment Fine, then don't.
Just stay in Vancouver.
Yes, Peter, I am getting upset because I can't handle Georgie and Katie alone all the time! Well, you know that Georgie is a handful.
I'm starting to think you're having second thoughts about this whole adoption.
Yes, yes, I understand your work is important.
Can you listen? Georgie! Georgie, honey?! Honey! Honey, are you okay? Don't, don't move.
Get- just easy now, get up slow! I'm fine! I don't need your help! What are you doing, ridin' in the middle of the road like that?! I'm sorry! I didn't see you! Well, you could've been hurt! Well, I wasn't, okay?! I'm fine! Nothing happened! Wait Now, are you sure you're okay? Yes, I'm fine! I gotta get home.
Georgie! And at the break of day you sank into your dream, you dreamer.
Oh, oh, oh You dreamer you dreamer.
Desi just got out of surgery about an hour ago.
He's doing really, really well.
Don't worry, we'll keep an eye on him overnight.
Yeah, make sure he's comfortable.
Okay, Miss Shipton.
Okay, I'll see you in the morning.
Okay, bye.
- Hey.
- Sorry.
I know you're closed.
I saw your light on.
We're just doing a late-night surgery.
Is there something I can help you with? I spoke to Scott about picking up some vaccines.
Mr.
Williams, right? That's right.
You can call me Eric.
Eric, I'm Ty.
I've got your order right here.
Enough West Nile, strangles, and rabies vaccines for 30 horses.
- Looks like you've got a busy day ahead of you tomorrow.
- You are tellin' me.
I just bought the McSlade farm and all the horses with it.
It was a heck of a deal, but the livestock was in pretty rough shape.
Most of them haven't even been vaccinated.
My fiancee actually worked with Kendra McSlade.
She tried to help her with some of her horses, but Kendra is a little Cuckoo? Nuttier than a fruitcake? I was gonna say reluctant, but yeah.
Maybe your fiancee can help me out with something.
According to the livestock inventory I got from the lawyer, there's a missing horse.
Registered name was "Sky's The Limit"? It's a grey gelding.
Hmm Well, I can't get a hold of Kendra, so if your fiancee knows anything, I'd be grateful.
Okay.
Thanks.
Katie finally fell asleep, so I think I'm gonna head to bed.
It's early.
Is everything okay? Yeah.
No.
Me and Peter had this huge argument today and I just can't stop thinking about it.
What happened? He's gonna miss Georgie's birthday next week and I kind of lost it.
I probably overreacted, but it's her first birthday with us and I just I wanted it to be memorable, and it will be, just minus Peter.
Do you remember, when we were growing up, how many cards we got in the mail from Dad on our birthday? Ten years worth.
Yeah, and I would've sent every one of them back just to have him there.
Yeah, me too.
I know what's happening with Peter isn't the same thing, but I can understand why you'd be upset.
Thanks.
Good night.
Good night.
Ty, hey.
Amy, what was Phoenix's name before he came to Heartland? Um, Sky's The Limit.
Did Kendra give you a bill of sale for him? Um Not exactly, why? Do you have any proof that you own him? Well, I helped her re-home a few horses, and in exchange she gave me Phoenix.
It was just more of a verbal agreement.
Why are you asking me this? Kendra sold her farm to a guy named Eric Williams, but not just the farm, the livestock too, and Eric was just in here a couple of minutes ago and he was asking about Phoenix.
Okay, well, I'll call Kendra in the morning and get this worked out.
Good idea.
I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.
Yeah, yeah, thanks.
Love you.
Bye.
Hey, Jack, i've been runnin' around all morning.
I fixed the fence up by the dude ranch.
Oh, and I chopped some firewood for you too, okay? Hey Got you a coffee while I was at McDonalds.
You never bring me coffee.
What do you want? I wanna show you something.
Yeah, I can see that feed tote plain as day.
I said yesterday I wasn't interested.
I just want you to look at it with your own eyes so you know it's good stuff.
The only reason it was cheap is because it tested a little high for moisture, but that's okay 'cause we're gonna use it right away.
You get what you pay for, Tim.
I only raise high quality cattle, which means usin' high quality feed.
That's funny.
That's funny considerin' I've been the one raising all the cattle lately, while you've runnin' around glad-handing for your new job.
Well, good.
About time you pulled your weight.
Take that feed back to wherever it came from and we're done talkin' about this.
Thanks for the coffee.
- Olivia.
- Hey, Mom.
Hey, Dad.
- You looked great out there.
- Good boy.
Yeah, you cleared those jumps with air to spare.
Thanks.
Hey, let's get one of you and Buster together.
Dad.
Come on, I spent a fortune on that horse.
I want a picture.
And smile, honey.
You have such a pretty smile.
Yeah, we spent a fortune on that, too.
Beautiful.
That one's going on the family blog for sure.
We're heading to the snack stand.
Do you want anything? Okay, Georgie? I just want you to really focus on your position going in and out of the jumps today, okay? Okay.
I just felt yesterday that, you know, you were leaning forward a little bit, so make sure you sit back in your saddle.
You hear what I said? Yup, let's do this.
Ho! Remember to count your strides! And try to be consistent, Georgie! I hate you! I hate you! I'm gonna rip your eyes out and shove 'em in your ears so you're deaf and blind! Georgie, what are you doing?! Psycho! Spoiled brat! You have got to learn to control your temper! If you can't deal with Olivia in practice, how are you gonna manage in competition? - I wanna go home.
- No, we're not done here.
Yeah, well I am! Georgie! Not like Jack to miss dinner.
Yeah, well, he is at a cocktail party drumming up business for Rich.
Hmm.
A cocktail party? Oh, I can just see that now, Jack standing by the chocolate fountain sippin' an apple-tini.
May I be excused? You hardly touched your food.
Well I'm not feeling so good.
What's the matter? Nothing, just tired.
Okay, well, go lay down and I'll come check on you in a minute.
Okay.
Was Georgie okay at practice today? Actually, there was sort of an incident.
What kind of an incident? She had a bad run and then she just stormed off.
You gotta to find a way to control that kid.
If I didn't have lightning fast reflexes I would have run over her with my truck.
What? Run her over with your truck? You didn't get my message.
What message? Is there something you wanna talk to me about? About what? Why would you ride across the road without looking? You know better than that.
It's totally no big deal! Nothing happened! But it could have.
And then instead of being honest with me, you erased my dad's message.
I didn't want you to worry.
Well, you know what? You're plan was a bust because I am worried.
Honey, what were you thinking? Georgie, look at me.
Fine.
No more riding Phoenix alone.
But- You can practice jumping with Amy, but that's it, and no TV for two weeks.
And when you've cooled off, an apology for erasing that message would be nice.
Sorry I'm such a "handful.
" What did you say? Nothing.
- Hey.
- Hey! You know, every email I've sent to Kendra has bounced back.
Did you try her cell? Yes, it's not working.
She's completely MIA.
If I can't get a hold of her, I have no way of proving that Phoenix belongs to me.
Well, I don't think you should have to prove it.
Kendra gave you Phoenix.
He's your horse.
Yeah, but not on paper.
Eric has probably got his hands full at the McSlade farm.
Maybe we just don't say anything and he forgets about it.
Ty, no.
Come on, I can't do that.
- I know.
- It'd be dishonest.
You could lose Phoenix.
Georgie would be devastated.
I don't think I have any other choice.
Grandpa, you are not gonna believe what I just found.
What is it? I was putting laundry away in Amy's room, minding my own business, when I could not help but notice this.
You were snoopin'.
Snooping is a very loaded word, Grandpa.
Like I said, I was putting laundry away.
"Neptune's Palace Hotel, Las Vegas.
" So what? So read this part right here.
"Amenities include: Starfish mini golf, Clam Bake Fridays, and the world's first underwater-themed wedding chapel.
" God, can you believe this? Believe what? Isn't it obvious? Ty and Amy are eloping.
Oh, Lou, stop jumpin' to conclusions.
There is a rational explanation for this.
Like what?! I don't know.
Put it back in Amy's room, forget you ever saw it, 'cause nothin' good ever comes from snoopin'.
I was not snooping.
I was putting laundry away.
Okay, Georgie, remember to look! Okay, go deep in your corners! Find your distance.
I totally suck! You don't suck.
Just remember to breathe.
What is wrong with me? There's nothing wrong with you, Georgie.
You're just thinking too much.
I can tell that you're tensing up every time you approach a jump.
I'm not doing it on purpose! I know, I know.
I'm just trying to help, okay? You know, maybe this has something to do with your accident.
My dad said he came pretty close to hitting you, and maybe you're holding on to that fear.
Or maybe I just suck! Georgie Face it, Amy, I'm not good enough to ride this horse! Maybe you should give Phoenix to someone who can actually jump! Georgie, don't say that.
You gonna answer that? No, I'm not.
It's just Rich.
He's callin' about some guy that needs to be schmoozed, or some contract that needs to be signed, or rough stock that needs to be transported.
Sounds like you're gettin' tired of it, Jack.
Well, I like the job well enough.
It's just a little more work than I thought it'd be.
Guess that's why I haven't seen you out here for awhile.
Yeah, it's keepin' me busy, that's for sure.
Doesn't mean I'm any less committed to runnin' this operation.
Well, you can't do everything.
You know, eventually something's gonna give.
A man at your age I suggest you not finish that sentence.
What do we have here? Looks like Stumpy's brand.
Yeah.
What's it doin' out here? I don't know.
I've been keepin' up the fences.
Sometimes one of them slips through.
I don't see any blood.
I don't think it was wolves.
I better call Stumpy.
Are you sure you don't want anything? Yeah, I'm fine.
Not even a chocolate sundae? I won't tell Lou.
No thanks.
Hello? Mr.
Williams.
Yeah, no, thank you for calling me back.
Could you hold on one moment? Thanks.
Here.
Order something, okay? I'll be right back.
Hey, sorry about that.
Hey, Georgie, what'll it be? How about Olivia's head on a stick? I don't think that's on the menu.
Seriously, she is like the meanest girl I've ever met! And, of course, she's got the perfect parents and the perfect horse, the perfect hair.
I used to know girls like that and you wanna know a secret about them? What? They're usually not so perfect.
Well, Olivia is.
You don't know that.
She's probably got a hairy mole on her back or so much wax in her ears that she could start a candle business.
Girls like Olivia feed off of making other people miserable, because they're so miserable themselves.
That was a good bite.
Hey, how was practice? I still suck! You don't suck.
Stop saying that.
You're just having some minor setbacks, that's all.
Tomorrow will be better.
Listen to your coach.
She knows what she's talking about.
So, I was catching up with an old friend earlier today.
- Oh yeah? - Mm-hmm.
Turns out that her and her fiance eloped last year.
They got married in Atlantic City.
- Really? - Yeah.
And now she totally regrets it, because she wasn't able to share her special day with her family, not to mention the fact that she missed out on getting to register at a high end department store.
You know, believe it or not, there comes a time in every woman's life where she wants a matching set of overpriced good china and a bread maker.
I'll keep that in mind.
Hey, can I talk to you about something? Yeah, sure, what is it? Phoenix.
I think there might be a problem with his ownership papers.
What? Yeah.
I'll explain everything to you later, but do you think you could do me a favour? Okay.
Just keep Georgie inside for the next hour or so? Should I be worried? I'll take care of it, I promise.
You must be Amy Fleming? Yes.
Hi, Mr.
Williams, it's great to have you here.
I appreciate you telling me about Sky's The Limit, or should I say Phoenix Rising? I just wanted to be totally up front with you.
Phoenix has been living here for the past eight months, and I have to say he's really become part of the family.
I'd really like to take a look at him.
That's him there.
Oh, he's beautiful.
Yeah, there's this girl, Georgie, that we're adopting into the family, she usually rides Phoenix.
They have quite the connection.
It would really be a shame if I think there's been some kind of a misunderstanding.
See, I'm not here to take Phoenix away.
You're not? No, I wanted to make sure he had a decent home, and it's pretty obvious that he's in good hands.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
You know I should be the one thanking you.
Most of Kendra's horses, they're in pretty rough shape.
One less to worry about is a big help.
I know it'll mean a lot to Georgie.
Her and Phoenix are getting so good at jumping and they're a great team.
I didn't realize that Phoenix was a jumper.
Well, yeah, they're having some challenges with their training right now, but I know they have a lot of potential.
He's a great horse.
In that case, I'd like to see him jump sometime.
Yeah, we're just training up at a local arena.
You could stop by anytime.
I might just do that.
Okay.
Hey, guys, I've been looking for you.
You got a sec? Oh, sure, sit down.
Um I probably shouldn't be saying anything, but um Do you remember that dead bull that you guys found? Yup.
Well, when Scott went back and checked on Stumpy's herd, he found that one of the cows was kinda Sick and wobbly.
Now nothing's for sure until those test results come back from the lab But Scott thinks it's BSE.
You gotta be kiddin' me.
If I were you, I would keep all your cattle on the Heartland side of the fence.
If those test results come back positive, Stumpy's entire ranch is gonna be quarantined.
Okay, now please don't tell anyone.
This all could be nothing.
I don't want anyone to worry.
So if we can just keep this between us? Oh, we will.
Thanks for the heads up.
Okay.
I should probably get going.
See you, guys.
That's all we need.
"Mad Cow disease" back in the headlines.
Are you gonna get that? I'll be back.
Hey, Rich.
Hey, Ty, I got a question for you.
What's up? Okay, what if, hypothetically, a rancher bought some feed from Stumpy and fed it to his herd? What might happen if the test results come back positive for BSE.
? Did you buy some of Stumpy's feed? Because if you did- Just answer the question.
Okay.
If they trace the spread of If they trace the spread of the disease back to the feed, then any cattle that will have eaten it will be quarantined and then culled.
Whatever's going on with Georgie, it has nothing to do with Phoenix.
He's in perfect form.
Maybe she just had a bad couple of days.
No, she used to be fearless.
Something's happened to make her lose her confidence.
Well, what about that near accident with Tim? Uh, yeah, you know, I thought so at first, but there's a girl who climbed down a well to save a dog.
Not much scares her.
Well, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Georgie will be sailing over those jumps in no time.
I hope so.
Hey, I've been thinkin'.
Now that this whole thing with Eric is behind us, maybe we can make a decision about Vegas? I haven't decided yet, but I am leaning towards yes.
Really? Yeah.
I still have some things to work out here, but I wanna do it.
Yeah, Stumpy, I appreciate that you called to tell us, and I know I speak for everyone here, we'll keep our fingers crossed that it's not BSE.
Say that again? What feed? No, Tim did not tell me that.
Yeah, no, that's uh All right.
Is everything all right? Yeah, I just can't sleep, I guess.
What are you hiding there? These are your parents? They look like really nice people.
I don't remember.
I was really young when they died.
Usually I just make stuff up about them in my head.
What kind of stuff? You know, stories.
Like There was this one time, it was after practice and my dad really wanted a photo of Phoenix and I, and I didn't feel like it, but then he said that the horse cost him a fortune and he deserved a picture.
Then my mom kept telling me to smile, and my dad was like, "Oh, yeah, that cost me a fortune too.
" That's a pretty good story.
Nah, it's stupid.
Somebody else's life.
Georgie I know that Lou and Peter aren't your real parents, but they love you a lot.
I heard them fighting about me over the phone.
It sounded like Peter didn't want to adopt me anymore.
Olivia was right.
I don't think that's true.
It's okay, Amy.
I'm used to adults making promises they can't keep.
You're all really nice people and you don't have anything to feel bad about.
Can we go to sleep now? Yeah.
Jack There's somethin' I gotta get off my chest.
You're not gonna like it.
Yeah, well, you can save your breath.
I already know you went behind my back.
Okay, I made a mistake.
No! I told you not to buy that feed! I told you twice! I take full responsibility, but even if it is BSE, you know the chances of that food being the source are slim to none.
You went behind my back.
It's supposed to be partnership, Jack.
We make decisions together, but that's pretty tough to do when you're not around.
That's good, comin' from a guy who spends half his damn life in Moose Jaw! Well, that won't be an issue now that you've ruined my relationship with Miranda.
Yeah, well, I wouldn't take back a single word I said to her either.
All right, hold on.
Hold on! I'll make it up to you, Jack.
You'll make it up to me? Is that what you just said?! "You'll make it up to me.
" What the hell is wrong with you?! If this turns out to be BSE, everything will be gone! I'll be wiped out! Heartland will be gone! Settle down! Don't do this, Jack! Come on.
Everything you touch turns to crap! You destroyed everything I care about! Enough! That didn't need to happen, Jack.
Come in.
Hey.
Mallory, what're you doing here? I was thinking about your Olivia situation and I saw something at the tack shop that I thought you should have.
Oh my gosh, thank you! Sometimes the best way to stick it to a girl like Olivia is to feel extra fabulous, and with a riding belt like that you're gonna be asking Olivia who? Thanks, Mallory.
Don't mention it.
Us girls have to stick together, right? Hey, Jack, I have some news.
Stumpy's herd tested negative for BSE.
It turns out that wobbly cow just had some complications with calving, and that bull you found, it died of pneumonia.
You okay? I thought you might be relieved.
Oh, I am.
Believe me, I am, and thank you for keeping me in the loop.
It's just been a long day.
All right, I'll Catch you later.
Yeah.
All right, Georgie, you've done this a hundred times, all right? You know the course so don't overthink it.
This is just about you, Phoenix and the jumps.
Nothing else matters, okay? What's going on? I guess they came to watch.
The last thing I need is everybody watching me knock down these rails! Georgie, they don't care if you knock them down.
Well, I do! Georgie, where are you going? Amy told me about what you said last night.
Well, Amy has a big mouth.
Peter is not having second thoughts about adopting you.
I heard you on the phone.
I was mad at Peter and I wanted to make him feel bad so I said something I shouldn't have, but it wasn't fair of me to accuse him of having second thoughts because he's not, Georgie.
He wants to adopt you just as much as I do.
And let's not forget about Amy, Grandpa, Ty, my dad, even Mallory.
We all want you here with us Georgie, you are a part of this family and that is never going to change.
Do you understand? Come here.
Now I want you to say, "I am a part of this family.
" Say it.
I'm a part of this family.
Good.
Now get out there and jump.
It's okay.
Hiya! - Yeah, Georgie! - All right! Woo! Go, Georgie! Woo-hoo! That was awesome.
Good boy! Still think you suck? Are you kidding? I totally just rocked that! You gotta be kidding! Hey.
Good news about Stumpy's herd.
Come on, Jack, I'm willing to forget what happened.
Let's just shake on it.
I don't think so.
The herd's fine.
We're still in business.
That doesn't change what you did.
Fact is, I don't trust you, so I'm gonna buy you out.
Buy me out? We're done.
You and me? Done.
Okay, I have kept my mouth shut, but I cannot stay silent any longer.
What're you talking about, Lou? I found this in your room.
Look, I know that eloping might sound like a good idea, but you guys need to seriously think this through.
Lou- Not to mention the thousands of dollars of gifts you'll be missing out on, this place is just tacky.
Lou- And what about me? You know, I had to wait for months for you to ask Amy to marry you, and then you tortured me with all of this angst about not being ready and waiting, and then not knowing why you're waiting, and then not waiting.
And now that you are finally engaged you're eloping?! No! No flipping way! I deserve a wedding! Lou, we're not eloping.
You're not? I was invited to lead a horse clinic in Vegas, and Ty and I thought we could make a road trip out of it.
Why didn't you say anything? 'Cause we weren't sure! We were just thinking about it.
Oh.
Well Never mind then.
I can't believe you were snooping in my room! Snooping is a very loaded word, Amy.
I was putting laundry away.
Now that you mention it, eloping's not such a bad idea.
Look at this.
Huh! They even have an underwater-themed wedding chapel right in the lobby.
That would be perfect for us.
You guys are so funny! Very funny! You're such a good bubby, Remi.
You're a good girl.
You're a good girl, huh? You're so good! You're so good.
Georgie, there's something I want to show you.
Come here.
I hope you don't mind.
I just thought that's where they belonged.
Take me off the table put me away I've been to pieces Let's go.
I've been astray You take the right and I'll take what's left even just for tonight it's for the best Mr.
Williams? Please, call me Eric.
Eric.
Um, so Amy tells me that you've decided to honour Kendra's verbal agreement, which is excellent.
I thought that maybe we could make it official with a bill of sale, and that way there won't be any problems in the future.
Yeah, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Why not? Well, because I changed my mind.
What do you mean you've changed your mind? I just bought the McSlade farm and there's been some unexpected expenses - the vet bill and now the barn roof What does that have to do with Phoenix? I have asked around and people are telling me that Phoenix can clear a six foot fence with air to spare.
That horse is worth a lot of money.
I feel terrible about this, Lou- Call me Mrs.
Morris.
I wish that things were different, I really do, but that horse, he's just too valuable to give away.
Never know kno-oo-oo-oo-ow Today-ay-ay-ay Good boy.
