Heartland (CA) s09e17 Episode Script

Love Is Just a Word

Previously on "Heartland" Looks like a surgical incision.
There is your story right there, they removed your gallbladder.
I know you're still pissed about that whole poaching thing.
You mean, how you profited off the slaughter of animals.
Maybe you didn't hear but I turned those guys in.
I did the right thing.
Don't make light of this.
We'll just portend it never happened.
That's right.
Because I don't want things to get weird.
What the hell.
Things are weird already.
Whoa! Spirit! Cassandra! Pull up! - I'm trying! - Pull up! Circle him! Just circle him.
Pull up! It's okay! Whoa! Spirit.
Good boy, good boy.
Are you okay? Yeah.
Just get me off this horse.
Okay.
okay.
okay.
Whoa! Oh God! I can't believe Caleb would buy you a horse that bolts like that? Some guys buy their girlfriends jewelry.
Not Caleb.
Wow.
The Hudson heritage foundation is making a big deal out of their party this year.
I'm glad I got our tickets early.
Yeah, what's that about anyway? What do you mean? Well, they throw this party every winter.
And you've never been this gung-ho to go before.
Well, I just think it's a great chance for us all to dress up and go out together.
- Is Remi in here? - No.
Look at this! My brand new fly tying stuff just torn apart by that dog! Oh Jack, you're just gonna go to the store and buy some new supplies.
No, I'm not.
This stuff cost a fortune I'm not just gonna replace it.
That dog is a menace.
If any of you see Remi, I want you to put her outside.
We're not gonna do that.
It's freezing outside.
Well, she got hair, doesn't she? You have to admit, you left the stinky stuff lying around Oh, so it's my fault? You do leave your stuff lying around.
Yeah, you've always been like that, Jack.
It's not just 'cause you're old.
Well, sure is nice to know that when push comes to shove you all take a dog's side.
Looking good, bud.
Hey, sorry we're late.
Ah, don't worry about it.
Jade's in the back pen.
She'll fill you in on our new arrivals.
- Okay? - Okay.
Hey.
Looks like you've been busy.
Yeah, the new clinic is coming along real nice.
Hey, you got a few minutes to take a look around? Yeah, for sure.
Awesome.
Just over here.
Okay.
I get it.
I'm not mad.
Just a little disappointed.
I'm sorry, Georgie.
My parents won't let me go.
Maybe you can give my ticket to Jade.
Jade already has one.
What do I have? A ticket to the party tonight.
Adam's not allowed to go.
Well, good.
I mean, not good for you but good for me, since I won't have to be a third wheel.
Agh.
Oh, look at these guys! They're so cute! Don't be fooled.
They may look adorable with their stubby little legs and big, brown eyes, but they're not.
They're stubborn little monsters.
Where did they come from? They were rescued from some third rate petting zoo after the owners skipped town.
Bob wants us to give them a good brush.
But I don't know why it's so important.
A horse's hair grows longer in the winter.
If it gets matted and dirty it can create cold spots which can lead to hypothermia.
Did you manage to download all of Wikipedia into your brain? He's right.
I doesn't look like any of these horses have ever been groomed before.
Okay.
Let's get started.
Nothing fancy, but when it's done I'll be able to help a lot more animals.
But I'm gonna need volunteers.
That's where you come in.
Hey, sign me up.
- Yeah? - Yeah.
Will you consider sitting on the board? You have a board? Yeah, man.
I'm totally legit now.
I've got like donors, accountants, board members.
When I go to meetings I wear a tie.
- No you don't.
- Yeah.
- Really? - It's pretty awesome, man.
Oh hold on a sec, okay? Oh okay.
Hello.
It's quite the beard you got there, Bob.
Maybe you should consider a trip to the barber.
Who is this? Oh, you don't know me.
But I've been keeping a close eye on you.
In fact, I'm looking at you right now.
Okay.
What do you want? You sent two of my employees to jail.
I'll tell you, Bob, the only thing harder than finding a reliable source of bear gallbladders, is finding good employees.
We had a great thing going.
What happened? Look, I don't do that anymore.
Well, that's too bad.
Because your new found conscience has cost me a lot of money.
But luckily, you're in a position to redeem yourself.
Look, I'm hanging up and calling the police.
If you do that I can't guarantee your safety.
Or the safety of those sweet little kids you've got working there.
I'll call you back later when you're alone.
And remember, I got my eye on you.
Bob, I'm gonna head out now.
Sorry to interrupt.
No it's cool.
Oh yeah, Ill see you later.
Okay.
Hey, uh, Ty Just drive safe.
It's icy out there.
Okay.
S09E17 Love Is Just a Word Spirit is way too high strung a horse for an inexperienced rider.
Well, teach me how to handle him.
It's not just a matter of teaching you Look, yesterday I performed a liver lobectomy on a dog.
A year ago I would have had no clue how to do a surgery like that.
But I learned.
It's not the same thing, Cassandra.
If I can fix a diseased liver, I can figure out how to handle Spirit.
I just need your help.
There is some guests checking in at the dude ranch next week and we're running pretty low on fire wood.
I'll pick some up tomorrow.
Make it a full cord.
Yes ma'am.
Is there anything else? No.
That's it.
Actually, there's one more thing It's about us I think we need to lay some ground rules.
I know how you like rules.
I'm serious.
I have two daughters to think about.
And whatever's happening between us I think we should keep it quiet.
And what if I don't want to be your dirty little secret? Well, then maybe we should just be friends.
Okay.
Okay.
There's just one problem with that.
What? Now, I don't know about you, but I never kiss my friends like that.
Really? Jack? You're going to ignore her.
I don't reward bad behavior.
She can play fetch with somebody else.
You're gonna hold a grudge against a dog.
No creature, great or small, mess with a man's fly fishing stuff.
She just wants to be loved.
I mean, how can you resist this sad face? Easy.
I just think about my stuff.
I know you, you're a softie.
It's only a matter of time until he forgives you.
Ooh, you wanna make a wager on that? Yeah, all right.
I bet you twenty bucks you two are friends by the end of the week.
You're on.
You're on.
Get over here! Okay.
Stop! No-no-no-no! Ugh! I give up.
Is that little horse too much for you, Adam? He's impossible.
Every time I try to get close to him, he runs away.
Here.
Let me try it.
Hey pony.
Hi.
I'm not gonna hurt you.
You're okay.
Whoa.
You know what, I'm gonna give you a name.
How about Monty? Hm? What do you think about that? Come on, Monty.
See.
I told you.
Peter, I hope you got the ticket I sent you to the party.
And trust me, you are not gonna wanna miss this.
We haven't seen you for awhile So I really think you should be there, okay? Call me back.
Did you join the Hudson heritage foundation's planning committee? Do I look like an 80-year-old woman? Then why are you making sure that everyone has a ticket to their party? You sent one to Peter in Vancouver? I like parties, I want everyone to be there.
What's the big deal? You hate parties just as much as I do.
Try again.
All right.
Tonight the mayor of Hudson and you cannot breath a word of this to anybody the mayor of Hudson is gonna present our Lou with the Entrepreneur of the year award.
You don't say.
- No, you don't say.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
Not a word.
You know how hard it is to keep a secret from Lou.
I will say no more.
It's Your secret's safe with me.
I wanted to call because I didn't want him to have a matted coat over night and I couldn't find Bob.
That's him right here.
Aww.
Is he always off on his own like that? Yeah.
He doesn't really get along with the rest of the herd.
Hey Monty.
I'm gonna have to convince him to come to me, not the other way around.
Why don't we take all these other horses out of here.
And then I can be alone with him.
Hey llama boy! Nobody really calls me that anymore.
Okay.
I guess I'll just call you an idiot then.
Excuse me? Look, Georgie was really looking forward to going to the party with you tonight.
I can't believe you're ditching her.
My dad said I'm not allowed.
So, use that oversized brain of yours to convince him you have to go.
In case you haven't noticed, Georgie really likes you.
So stop messing it up.
It's okay.
You don't have to be scared.
You can come.
It's just you and me, bud.
You don't need to be scared.
Hey.
Easy.
You're okay.
Oh.
He doesn't like his face being touched.
You want me to take a look.
Yeah.
Hey Hey.
Easy now Easy.
Yeah.
I'm feeling a lot of sharp edges in his mouth.
Oh, it's okay.
Hey, it's okay.
His teeth need to be floated.
I'm gonna go get my kit.
Poor guy.
Good thing you called us, Georgie.
You must be in a lot of pain, huh? I'll get you fixed up.
Yeah.
Hello You have something I need, Bob; private land and plenty of black bears.
And I got something you need; money.
So how about we let bygones be bygones and get things back to the way they used to be.
No.
Look I told you my poaching days are over.
I'll pay you double what I paid last year.
Look, I don't kill animals.
I save them.
Think of all the animals you can save with this money.
All I'm asking for is a few bears.
Go to hell.
That's the wrong answer.
H-hello? Don't look at me.
Georgie is upstairs.
You go play with her.
Go on! Get! Go on! All right.
So Lou is running a little bit behind.
So we're gonna take Katie to Vanessa's on our way to the party.
Well, we better get a move on then.
All right, let's get you a juice.
Well, hello, young fellow.
Come on in.
Hi.
Is Georgie here? Uh, she is upstairs changing.
She'll be down in a minute.
But you can wait for her in the living room.
Thanks.
I didn't think you were coming.
Wow.
I I spent a year on the debate team at my old school.
Okay.
A convincing argument just needs a strong thesis.
So I told my dad that this event only happens once a year and that I really wanted to go with you.
Plus I agreed to take out the garbage everyday for the next month.
This is for you.
Wow.
Thank you.
It's-It's beautiful.
If you're going to lock lips with someone, you could do a lot worse than Mitch.
He's not exactly hard on the eyes.
- Amy! - What? I'm married, I'm not blind.
No, I just mean don't encourage me.
What if I'm having some kind of early mid-life crisis? Or what if you actually like this guy.
What if I do like him? What then? Then, you go on a date.
And you figure it out from there.
Yeah.
What if Georgie finds out? Or dad, or grandpa? Look, Lou, you have got to move on with your life, okay? And Grandpa understands that.
So does dad.
Georgie she'll get used to it.
Uh, come in.
Hi.
Is it okay if Adam and I get a ride with Jade to the party? Yeah, just dress warm.
Yeah.
Sure.
And um, don't let Jade drive too fast.
Okay.
And Georgie Yes, Lou You look really pretty.
Thanks.
See ya.
Well, I should get going.
Hey, why don't you drive in with me and Ty.
Uh, no, no.
I'm fine.
Come on, otherwise you're gonna walk into the party alone.
I'm single now, I walk into place alone all the time.
Yes, but maybe now that Mitch is in the picture, you don't have to.
Hey, where's Lou? Why isn't she here yet? She was running a little late.
I know.
She's on her way.
I'm sure.
Yeah.
Well, she better hurry up.
I just spoke to the mayor, and she wants to do that thing that we talked about sooner than later.
What thing? What thing? The mayor doing a thing? What thing? The things mayors do.
Cut ribbons, raise property taxes Lou is being presented with the entrepreneur of the year award.
Oh really? - Wow - Okay.
That was supposed to be surprise! I'm sorry.
I'm proud of her.
I can't help it.
I won't tell a soul.
I swear.
Yeah, that's what he said.
Ah, Lou, hey I didn't think anybody was home.
What are you doing here? Uh, Jack lend me these cufflinks for the party.
He just put them on the table here.
You're coming tonight? Yeah, Tim had a couple of extra tickets, so he gave them to me.
A couple of extra tickets.
That mean, you're bringing a date? Some girl you met online whose likes include pina coladas and getting caught in the rain? Would that bother you? No, of course not.
I was just on my way out.
So I guess I'll see you there.
I'm not.
What? Bringing anyone.
It was kinda last minute, so I'm going solo.
What about you? No chaperone to the dance? I was supposed to go with Georgie, but she got a ride with her friends.
Well, would it be against any of your rules if I gave you a ride to the party? No, I don't think so.
Are you sure? If we show up together, people might start talking.
Well, let's give them something to talk about.
Tim, you need to relax.
Just a little bit.
I can relax, I will relax when Lou gets here.
All right.
So is Casey gonna come by tonight at all.
- No.
- Oh.
She's at a rodeo.
Wow, a lot of rodeos lately, eh? Yeah, well She-she's a busy woman.
There is Lou.
Lou! Hey.
You're here finally.
Oh sorry, I didn't realize I was that late.
- Hey Tim.
- Hi Mitch, how are you? Did you two come together? Mitch was kind enough to offer me a ride.
Oh.
Okay.
Well, come in.
- Come on, enjoy yourself.
- Hey.
The temperature is gonna drop to below minus 20 tonight.
Never mind that.
Your mom just walked in with that hot ranch hand from your place.
Who? Mitch? They're totally on a date.
No.
no.
no.
No way.
Georgie's right.
There's no actual evidence of a date.
They could have car pooled or just arrived at the same time.
Right.
Exactly.
If you ask me, your mom is helping herself to a delicious slice of hunky cowboy.
Hi guys.
Hello Mrs.
Fleming-Morris.
You look radiant this evening.
Wow.
Thanks Adam.
Are you guys having fun? Not really.
There's a lot of old people here.
No offence.
They just updated the temperature.
It's gonna to be minus 30.
We need to go! Go where? The party just got started.
There's a pen full of miniature horses at the wildlife reserve.
They're so tiny and it's gonna be way too cold.
We need to make sure they have enough hay.
Livestock create heat by digesting high-fiber feed.
If they don't have enough to eat Thanks, Adam.
I'm aware of that.
Why can't Bob feed the horses? I just texted him.
He's in Lethbridge picking up hay.
He's not gonna be back until after midnight.
I don't know, Georgie.
Please, we'll be super quick and we'll come right back here.
You won't even notice we're gone.
Okay, if you guys are back within an hour, okay.
Give you plenty of time to party with us old fogies.
It's all about educating our clients.
Anything that we can do to prevent going out at midnight to pull a calf.
No.
I totally agree.
We have to do way more outreach on things like vaccine protocol and basic herd health.
- Yeah, exactly.
- Yeah.
You know, I've been thinking that maybe on our website or something - we can have like a resource page.
- Yeah.
Put all this information on there, you know.
Excuse me, I'm just gonna grab another water.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's a great idea, we should talk to Scott about that.
Great.
There's only so much vet talk I can take.
You're telling me.
You lasted a lot longer than I did.
- Water, please.
- Sure.
Yeah.
Spirit, he is quite the horse.
He's something? He's definitely too much for Cassandra.
I know.
Then why did you buy him for her? I didn't.
We were at an auction, Cass bid on him.
Are you serious? Why would she do that? I don't know.
She's never really showed much interest in horses before.
You know, outside of surgery.
- Yeah.
- Sorry.
Excuse us.
- Cheers.
Cheers.
- Well, sure.
Excuse-excuse me.
What exactly do you think you're doing? I don't know.
I saw you, I saw a dance floor.
I'm just making this up as I go.
You're gonna get me trouble.
Wow, you know, I don't think I told you this tonight, but you look beautiful.
You don't look so bad yourself.
Thank you.
- Hey.
- Hey.
- You made it.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
- Sorry I'm late.
- No.
No, thanks for coming.
All right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's what happens when you don't visit.
- Um, would you excuse me? - Yeah.
Peter, what are you doing here? - Can I talk to you for a sec? - Yeah.
What's going on? I need to apologize to you about what happened in Vancouver.
Peter No, you should never have found out about Sylvia the way you did.
Now is hardly the time, okay? Please Lou, just- just hear me out, okay? Not being honest with you about Sylvia is just one of the many mistakes I've made over the past year.
But the biggest one by far was leaving you.
Peter, you didn't leave me.
We left each other.
Okay.
Well, then I should have never let that happen.
I love you, okay? I-I love you so much.
And even after everything that's happened, that hasn't changed.
I uh When I found these rings in my condo after you left, I knew for sure that I did not want this marriage to be over.
And I know that it has taken me way too long to say this but I'm here now and I'm telling you now I'm going to do everything in my power to get you back.
To get our family back together.
What are you doing? Can you excuse me? I Hey Tim.
We're all set to do the presentation.
Okay.
Fantastic.
You know, Lou is gonna be so excited about this, she has no idea.
That's good, but do you know where she is? Yeah, she's right back here with Peter, where is Lou? I don't know.
What do you mean you don't know? She left.
She left? What did What did you say to her? Not enough apparently.
- No, Lou is totally not into him.
- Hm-hm.
Guys look! Oh my God Stop the car! Jade, stop the car! Okay.
Okay! I'm calling the fire department.
Miniature horses! We have to go grab them! Come on! The Fire department's on their way.
We have to get the horses as far away as possible.
The llama pen.
- Come here, boy.
- Here, boy.
Here, boy.
Here.
We've gotta get them out of here.
- Hey.
- Hey.
If I'm going to help you with Spirit, I need you to tell me the truth.
He wasn't a gift from Caleb, was he? No.
I bought him.
I just don't understand why? Thought if I could learn how to handle a horse like that, it would mean we weren't so different.
I don't understand.
Caleb's such a cowboy and I'm the opposite of a cowgirl.
Every time we're out with his rodeo friends, it's like I don't even exist.
To be honest, we don't really have a lot No, we don't have anything in common.
And I'm just afraid we're not gonna to last.
- Well, hi.
- Hi.
Are you okay? Yeah, I'm fine.
I just-I had to get out of there.
You know, sitting here like this kinda reminds me of your wedding day.
You had a case of cold feet, you wouldn't come out of the truck, remember? Maybe it wasn't cold feet.
Maybe it was a premonition.
I mean, look at how things turned out.
I should have just stayed in the truck.
Nonsense.
You think about all the good things that have happened since then.
Georgie and Katie.
You know, back when I lived in New York, I used to have all these dreams.
And none of them involved being a single mom.
And just when I-I felt like I was starting to figure this out Peter shows up saying all the things I wish he'd said a year ago - turning my world upside down all over again.
I'll tell you something.
I would not want to meet the liar who says their life turned out exactly how they imagined.
Well, maybe you can't see all the amazing things that you've accomplished, but I do.
I see them everyday.
Especially when I look into the faces of those two beautiful, strong girls you're raising.
Now there is one heck of a party going on in that hall.
And it would be a real shame if you to miss it.
I don't think so, grandpa, I just wanna go home.
And do what? To sit around, feeling sorry for yourself.
What's the point in that? Besides, I wore my suit tonight so I could feel handsome when I danced with you girls.
What do you say; We go back in there and we get our 'party on' as Jade would say.
I can't believe you just said that.
Let's go! You guys run! Come on! Come on! Let's go! Georgie run! Let's go! Let's go! - Guys, there is only five! - What? We're missing one.
It's Monty! I've gotta back and get him.
He's still in there.
- No.
It's too dangerous.
- A little help here! Georgie don't! Monty! Monty! That doesn't make any sense.
That's what she said.
Please don't tell Cassandra I told you, I don't think she'd appreciate me spilling the beans.
I don't want Cass to be a cowgirl.
I love her for who she is.
Have you told her that? Hello and good evening.
Every year the town council recognizes a member of our community who embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship.
We've chosen this event to present this award because tonight's recipient is the owner of two businesses that have preserved and embraced our town's heritage.
Hudson is only as strong as the people who live here, and there is no stronger member of our community than Lou Fleming-Morris.
Not only is Lou a business owner, but she's also a mother, a community organizer, a blogger and for many of us that first friendly face we see in the morning - when we order a coffee.
- That's right.
It's my privilege as mayor to present this year's entrepreneur of the year award to Lou Fleming-Morris.
Come on up here, Lou.
Thank you.
Why don't you say a few words.
Sure.
Sure.
Uh, I didn't expect this.
You were very sneaky, dad.
I uh wow.
I don't quite know what to say.
Um A very wise man recently told me that he wouldn't want to meet the liar who said his life had turned out exactly as he had imagined.
So I'm not going to lie, it's been a hard year.
And what the mayor said isn't true.
I'm not that strong, but my family is.
And if I've accomplished anything it is thanks to their support.
Nine years ago the best decision I ever made was moving back to Hudson.
And no matter where life takes me, no matter what my future holds, this place will always be my home.
So, thank you for this.
It means a lot.
Monty! Where are you? Monty! Good boy! You're okay! Georgie.
Georgie! Get up! Come on! You have to stand up.
Stand up! Are you okay? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm fine! Thank you! Cass.
Wait! I have an emergency call.
I really have to go.
Okay.
I-I-I I like being on the circuit, I like riding broncs.
But do you know what I love? You're going to say something cheesy, aren't you? Like how you like rodeo but you love me.
Kinda took the wind out of my sails.
Amy told you what I said, didn't she? I know like we don't have a ton in common, but I don't need you to be a cowgirl.
I love you for you.
Well, I'm just trying to be part of your world, Caleb.
I know.
And now it's my turn.
So I'm gonna come with you on this call.
I wanna be part of your world too.
Okay.
You know what? I've got a better idea.
Why don't I take tomorrow afternoon off and we head over to the car and truck show.
You like cars, I like trucks.
That's something, right? We can start there and then we'll just We'll figure out the rest as we go.
But now, I really have to go.
I know, I'm sorry.
Let's check it.
Thank you.
- Hey.
- Hey.
Congratulations.
That was that was quite the speech.
Thanks Listen Mitch, I had a really nice time with you tonight, but I don't think I can do this whatever "this" is.
You're breaking up with me on our first date.
Wow, that is-that's a new record, even for me.
I'm sorry.
It's okay.
I mean, you got two kids to think about.
And an ex-husband.
And a long list of rules of what you're supposed to do and how you're supposed to do them.
Promise me one thing, Miss Entrepreneur of the Year.
What's that? One of these days, do something that makes you happy, okay? Hey, hi.
I don't think we've met.
I'm Peter Morris.
Lou's husband.
I'm sorry, you are? I'm just the ranch hand, man.
Really? Peter? Really what? You're my ex-husband.
Not my husband.
Okay.
Well, I'm-I'm hoping to change your mind on that.
You know what, I can't even begin to tell you how monumentally bad your timing is.
It's Jade.
Where are you guys, I said one hour What? Oh my god is she okay? Yes.
I'll be right there.
- We have to go.
- What is it? It's Georgie.
We gotta go.
- Hi.
- There she is.
- How you feeling? - I'm fine.
Please don't make a big deal out of this.
Why would I make a big deal out of my daughter running headlong into a raging fire? I want to head back to the reserve and make sure the horses are okay.
Absolutely not.
No, the doctor said you have to take it easy today.
- But - No buts.
- You listen to your mom.
- Fine Besides, you know, your dad is in town and it'd be nice for you and Katie to go and spend some time with him at the dude ranch.
- Okay? Would that be fun? - Yeahhhh! - Hey - Hey.
I am so sorry, Bob.
Yeah.
Me too.
I'm gonna go check on the horses.
Yeah.
Okay.
So do you know what caused the fire? Cops said it was arson.
I guess that's what happens when you make a deal with the devil.
What are you talking about? The poachers.
But they're in jail.
Yeah.
And it was my testimony that put them there.
The guy the poachers used to work for called me, said he was willing to forgive and forget.
All I had to do was get back into business with him.
As you can see he wasn't too happy when I said no.
- I'm calling the cops.
- No, no, no more cops.
That's what got me here in the first place.
Bob, we gotta do something.
I sent two of his guys to jail, he burned down my clinic.
We're even.
If I keep going to the cops this will never end.
It's over.
Let it go.
I gotta give you credit you don't give up, do you? Don't push your luck, I'm not throwing it again.
That's it.
Yeah.
You know, you're just as bad as Georgie.
What do you mean? You are getting too attached to this horse.
I can't help it.
You see him? He's so cute.
Yes, you are.
