Hobitit (1993) s01e03 Episode Script

Elder Woods

Part III The Old Forest Well then, we have now left the Shire and here is the Old Forest.
I wonder if those tales that they tell about it are true Hardly.
I for one don't believe in them.
But the forest sure is odd.
It's somewhat more alive than in the Shire.
And these trees don't like strangers.
They are watching.
They say that they can be quite fierce at night.
The trees are whispering schemes and news to each other.
And the branches are swaying and stretching even though there's no wind.
They say that the trees can ambush strangers But there's a path somewhere near here that we should look for.
It's best that you lead us and find that path.
Hey! What is that? It's my bag.
Glad I found it.
You moron! We're going round in circles! Why did we have to come to this cursed forest? There's something resembling a path in there.
If we follow it, we should get out of here sooner or later.
Yes, I suppose so.
Unless it simply gets us in the middle of a swamp.
And do you have any idea how long we need to keep walking in this thicket? No, I don't.
But I can't find any other way out of here.
It's no use.
We're not getting anywhere.
Have to take a nap We cannot sleep yet.
We must first find the way out.
I don't like that tree.
The way it sings I don't trust it.
Frodo! Help! Merry, Pippin It has swallowed them Cursed forest What's the matter, little fellas? Where are you going? Don't you know me? I am Tom Bombadil.
Tell me your worries.
That old Willow tree swallowed our friends.
What? Old Man Willow? Naught worse than that, eh? I know the tune for him.
Let them out, Old Man Willow! You should not be waking.
Eat earth! Dig deep! Drink water! Go to sleep! Bombadil is talking! Who is that? Don't you know my name yet? Eldest, that's what I am Tom was here before the river and the trees Tom is old Well then, little fellas Stay on green grass from now on.
Beware of worn rocks, and cold aspens.
Safe travels to you.
The Prancing Pony Gandalf! What's A friend of mine from the Shire is coming here.
He goes by the name of "Underhill".
- Right.
Note that but don't ask anything.
He may need help.
Do everything you can for him and I'll be thankful.
I'm in a hurry.
Give this message to him.
Barliman? - Yes? Remember it.
- What? The message.
The messa Yeah yeah, you can trust in me.
And what do you want? I come from over there.
Have you seen Baggins? Go away! There are no Bagginses here.
Ask in Hobbiton.
Baggins has left.
If he goes through here, let me know.
I'll bring you gold.
Away with you! Now! I want to sleep! Baggins, Baggins Come.
Follow me.
Frodo! Merry! Pippin! Hey, where are you? Come on out already! Pippin! Frodo! Over here! Sam! Where are you? - Frodo Frodo! - Where are you? Over here.
I'm waiting for you.
Noooo! Cold be hand and heart and bone and cold be sleep under stone.
Never more to wake on stony bed never, till the Sun fails, and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind, the stars shall die and still on gold here let them lie till the Dark Lord lifts his hand over dead sea and withered land.
Get out you old wight! Vanish in the sunlight! Shrivel like the cold mist, like the winds go wailing.
Out into the barren lands, far beyond the mountains.
Never come here again! Leave your barrow empty! Lost and forgotten be, darker than darkness.
Where gates stand for ever shut, till the world is mended.
I was dreaming Where did you all go? Let's not talk about that now.
We have to move on.
Do you, mister Bombadil, think we will be harassed any further? Hardly any more today.
But don't trust my speculations.
Tom is not the Lord of the Riders of the Black Land.
They're looking for you.
The old knives suffice as swords for you Hobbit folk.
They'll prove useful when travelling towards danger.
Tom gives you some good advice: In four versts along the road you'll arrive in the village of Bree where all doors are open to the West.
There you'll find an old inn, called "The Prancing Pony".
Its master, Barliman Butterbur, is my good friend.
He will help you.
Be brave.
But still, beware.
Goodbye! Who would have thought that our little escape could lead to an adventure like a swordfight.
Don't even start.
I, on the other hand, wish nothing more than a log fire and a soft bed.
I feel very bad to separate from mister Bombadil.
He sure is damn strange.
I just mean We need to travel pretty far, to find another equally nice guy.
I wonder what kind of folk there are in Bree? The Bree inhabitants are both Hobbits and big folk.
The Pracing Pony is actually a pretty decent inn, I hear.
Some of us Hobbits visit there from time to time.
Nevertheless, it's outside the Shire.
So remember, all of you, not to use the name "Baggins".
I am "mr.
Underhill" if a name is required.
Underhill - Underhill While we were heading towards Bree, Gandalf visited Saruman the White, the leader of the White Council.
Saruman? Saruman the White! I have come to ask for help.
Ask for help? Really? Rarely is Gandalf the Grey heard asking for help.
Saruman The Nine are on the move.
They have crossed the streams.
Yes, they have.
Gandalf, my old friend, hear me out and help me.
The Elder Days have past.
The Third Age is ending.
A new age is upon us.
The age of elves is over.
Our time is at hand.
But we need to have power.
Power to do as we please.
Only one hand at a time may control the Ring.
You know this.
Why do you still say "we"? I say "we" because we can have the power if you become my ally.
Saruman I can not believe that you would have called me all the way here only to tire my ears.
Why not, Gandalf? The Ring of Power.
If we had control over it, we would have the power.
This is the reason I called you here.
Because I believe you know where this item currently is, don't you? Why else are the Nine asking about the Shire, and what were you doing there? I wouldn't give the Ring to you, nor information about it, now that I know your intentions.
The options here seem to be to submit either to you, or to Sauron.
I will do neither.
Do you have any other propositions? I do.
The alternative is, that you stay here until the end.
Until what end? Until you have told me where to find the One Ring.
