Hobitit (1993) s01e07 Episode Script

Mordor

1 Part VII Mordor Jounin Ensio & Spiny Norman For three days, we travelled, across the pale slopes, and the stony soil.
Sometimes, we noticed that we had been going in circles.
All in all, we had proceeded East.
Until one evening, we were standing on a barren cliff.
Beneath us unfolded the grey, rotten marshes, where no sign of life could be seen.
We're in trouble now, master.
Worse than trouble, I tell you.
From all the places in the world that we've heard of that's the one we don't want to see any closer.
And that's exactly where we're trying to get to.
It's just where we can't get, can we? We can't get down there! Ew! Do you smell that? Yes, I do.
Mordor.
It's my fate to go to that land of shadows.
I just hope that it would happen soon, and that this would end.
We can't stay here.
Lingering only helps the enemy, and the way back is swarming with orcs.
I hope that we at least shook off that sneak.
Yeah! I'm really freaked out by those eyes.
Gollum, indeed! Let's see it clacking its jaw when I get to snap its neck! Let's hope you don't have to.
I don't know how it followed us but it might have lost our track.
I feel that we are completely visible in the East.
There's the Eye.
We have to get down today.
One way or another About 18 fathoms, I think.
No more.
- It's quite enough.
Damn, I hate heights.
Nevertheless, we have to get down.
It's better to try now.
Apparently a storm is coming.
Very well, I'll go first.
What made you chance your opinion about heights? Nothing.
This is pure common sense.
The one most likely to fall goes first.
There's no reason for both to die when one slips.
Stop, stop! Sam, you fool! You'll kill yourself if you go down just like that.
Wait for a bit and have patience.
Sam, I think we can make it.
There's a ledge down below A bit more There Master Master! MASTER! MAASTER!! Where are you? Here, but I don't see anything.
Come out of there! I can't.
I cannot get a hold of anything.
What do I do now? What do I do now, master? Hey, I'll climb down there! No, don't! You can't do anything without a rope.
A rope? I should be hanged as a warning for all blockheads of the world.
"You're a total moron, Samwise Gamgee", just as old Gaffer always said.
A rope, indeed.
I've dragged it along for hundreds of miles, I totally forgot Stop that twaddling, already.
Just take it out and throw the end here.
On it.
How fortunate that you had a rope with you.
I wonder how long it is.
About 20 fathoms, I guess.
Good.
That should be enough.
Hey, don't tell me you're going back there again? Can't we wait until dawn? I won't stay here any longer than I have to.
Very well.
But this time, I will go first.
Oh, damn We made it.
- My beautiful elven rope Tied up there, when we're down here.
We couldn't have given that Gollum a better chute.
How fortunate that it lasted for as long as it did.
And to think I put my trust on your knot Oh, I see.
I may not be an expert at climbing, but I do know quite a bit about knots.
It kinda runs in the family.
We have to think - Oh yes, yes! This isn't just any piece of string.
This is an elven rope.
And it came down when I called.
Who knows, if lady Galadriel herself made it Nevertheless, we now have to think about what we're going to do next.
It's that Gollum! Why is it coming down on this spot in particular? Maybe it smelled us.
I've had enough of that sneak.
I'm going to have a little word with him.
Be careful.
It's a lot more dangerous than it looks.
We wants it Let go, Gollum.
This is Sting.
You've seen it before.
Mustn't do anything bad to uss no, noo! We meant no harm so don't you go layin' leeches on our neck! There's two of you, and only one of us, preciousss What do we do with it? Let's tie it up, and leave it there, so it won't sneak up on us again.
Then we die! The soil is hard and poor, we die! No, Sam.
It hasn't done anything bad to us.
Poor wimp.
But intends to, nonetheless! It's gonna strangle us when we sleep, that's what it's planning.
It's a pity that Bilbo didn't put it down! Pity? It was pity that held his hand.
That thing deserves to die.
- Deserves, indeed.
Many of those who live deserve to die, and some of those who die, deserve life.
Can you, Sam Gamgee, give it to them? So don't be so ready to throw death sentences in the name of justice.
Well, okay then.
Because it is rather miserable, isn't it? Yes, yes we are! P-pitiful, are we! O misery! O agony! Aren't the Hobbitses going to kill us? Are they nice Hobbitses? - We won't kill you, but we also won't let you go.
You have to help us.
You must show us the way to the Mount Doom of Mordor.
We knew it! That's where they're going, we KNEW IT! We knew! We knew that's the place they were going, didn't we, precious! No, small nice Hobbitses mustn't go to such places! There's arrows, pits, and orcs and death! No, little, nice Hobbitses mustn't go to such places.
So you've been there before? - Yes.
No! Once were, right, precious? Once were.
Won't go the second time.
No, we won't.
Go away! Don't look at me! I can't take it anymore! Smeagol, Sauron won't go away on your command.
But if you really want to free yourself from him, you have to help me.
You have to give me a promise, that I can rely on.
They took Smeagol's precious.
And now, Smeagol is lost.
Promise me, Smeagol.
- Smeagol promises.
But Smeagol has to promise with fingers on it.
No, Smeagol.
Not on it.
You can promise by it, if you like.
Now, Smeagol Speak your vow.
We promise Smeagol promises I promise to serve the master of the Precious.
Nice master.
Nice Smeagol.
Now, Gollum.
The moon is covered, and the night passes.
Time to work.
Master follow Smeagol Oh, the master was so lucky to find Smeagol.
This way must go now Hey! Wait a minute, Gollum! Don't go so fast, now I'll be right behind you.
Smeagol promised! Nice master, you follow Smeagol now Must go through here This way While Frodo and I were taming Gollum, and wandering in the land of shadows Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Merry, Gandalf, and Pippin, were fighting the enemy elsewhere.
You see, while we were travelling towards Mordor with Frodo Merry and Pippin were captured by the orcs but managed to escape, thanks to their wits.
In the forest of Fangorn they met Treebeard, and helped the Ents in destroying Isengard, and exiled Saruman.
Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas followed the orc's footprints, and met Merry and Pippin in the ruins of Isengard.
Gandalf, who we thought to have succumbed to shadow and died had gone through a great battle with the Balrog, and faded out of time and thought.
Gwaihir the Windlord had saved him, and brought him to Lorien.
From there Gandalf travelled to Isengard, and met the rest of the Fellowship.
And cheerful was the reunion.
Long did they sit and talk about their experiences.
But Frodo and I were completely unaware of all this.
We travelled wearily behind Gollum, towards Mount Doom.
Come on, carefully careful Mustn't rest now! Must hurry! Are you hungry, Smeagol? - Yes, in hunger are we.
We don't have much to share, but we'll spare what we can.
Would they have some nice fishies for Smeagol? We don't have any fish.
Is it crispy and crunchy? It's Elvish bread! Smeagol can't eat that! It's dust and ash! Are they trying to kill Smeagol, or what? Smeagol cannot eat that.
O, poor Smeagol No food for him to eat Smeagol starves He dies of hunger.
Oh, poor Smeagol, oh pitiful scrawny Smeagol goes to get some fishies Hey, what are you doing? Where are you going? It will come back.
It won't leave its precious, believe me.
Let's rest now.
We still have a hard journey ahead of us.
Hey, master Master.
- What? How long will it take to deal with this thing? What do we do when it's done? I mean, we have to eat this bread every day We have eaten a bit too freely until now.
What do we eat when it's gone? Now look, Samwise Gamgee Dear little Hobbit Friend of friends We hardly need to think about what happens "then".
You say that "we'll deal with this thing".
This little thingy Is there any hope that it will ever succeed? And if it does, is it likely that we, you, and I, are never again going to need bread? If we ever manage to climb Mount Doom, and the One Ring is destroyed that's all we can do.
And even that may be too much.
Master It's just that I feel like I have to do something before the end.
I feel That's right! Have to finish the job! Oh, well You go and sleep.
Sam stays guard.
Upon the hearth the fire is red Beneath the roof there is a bed But not yet weary are our feet Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone Tree and flower and leaf and grass Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky # Pass them by! Pass them by!
