DAY 4
[Kian yawns]
-Good morning.
-Morning.
-[Ye-eun] Where'd the kids sleep?
-[Kian] The kids?
Around here. Where was it again?
They were driving
and got into a minor crash.
What?
A CAR CRASH?
And, uh Well, they weren't hurt
or anything, but the kids were spooked.
Oh wow.
So they just slept somewhere else.
CONCERNED
WHERE THE HA FAMILY STAYED LAST NIGH
I was shocked
when I heard they got into a crash.
Yeah, I was surprised too.
I'm guessing
the kids are pretty shaken up.
WORRIED
I'm going to go pick them up now.
[Kian] Okay.
[knock on door]
[Jung-hwan] Yeah?
Jung-hwan, man, are you all right?
Yeah, it's just unfortunate.
-Can I come in?
-Yeah, come in.
-Thank you.
-It's okay.
-Dam, are you okay?
-Yeah.
Good. You're not hurt or anything?
-Feel okay now?
-[Yul] Yeah.
-Are you hurt?
-No.
[Jung-hwan] They were just
a bit startled by the accident.
-I see.
-Otherwise, they're fine.
-It really was just a bump.
-[Jin] Mmm.
Would you all still like to go back
to the fun B&B together? Huh?
Yep.
Yep.
What about you, bud?
You feel confident
about climbing that wall again?
[laughs]
YES, I DO
Should we all go to the boat then?
-Sir, ready? We'll head out right away.
-Yeah.
-So did you manage to catch some bugs?
-No.
Not even one?
-We caught a katydid, but
-You caught a katydid?
-We brought it
-It escaped?
but we lost it somehow
when the car crash happened.
What a waste.
We could've fried it up and eaten it.
[laughs]
When I was your age, I would go to
the country to catch frogs and eat them.
No!
Cover your ears. [laughs]
[Jin] Let's catch another one
at Kian's B&B.
[Jung-hwan laughs]
-[Jin] We'll catch and eat grasshoppers!
-[Jung-hwan] Jin is weird.
[Jin] That's what we all did
back in my day.
-[Kian] The kids are here.
-You're curious.
-[Jung-hwan] Hello.
-[Kian] Hello.
-Are the kids okay?
-[Jung-hwan] Yeah, they're fine.
-You okay?
-[Yul] Yeah.
RELIEVED

[Ah-jin] Remember how
we had dinner outside yesterday?
I have all the materials
necessary to build benches.
-So I'll go ahead and start building some.
-Yeah, that's a good idea.

Is there anything I can't do?
You did a good job.
Wow, you picked that up really quickly.
I don't perform well
when someone compliments me.
It looks terrible. Can you try harder?
How can you say something so hurtful?
No, you said you can't perform
if someone compliments you.
-But I wasn't asking you to put me down.
-[chuckles nervously]
-[Seong-eun] Nice.
-[Ah-jin] That's it.
Ooh, good, good, good.

-Oh, a new series?
-Yeah.
I don't plan to draw comics from now on.
I only like being on TV shows.
I plan to leave
the webtoon industry behind.

Come. We're gonna have a conversation.
Here, sit down.
Okay, I'll try.
This is tight.
This is tight.
Wow, this is very intimate.
You're leaving for a tutoring session?
-Uh
-Did you talk to your student?
Tell them to come here and get tutored.
-Great idea.
-Should I?
-Yeah.
-[laughs]
-Where does your student live?
-In Gwangju.
Gwangju? Oh, that's just
a stone's throw from Ulleungdo.
[laughs]
I mean, I'm not going to force you,
but it's such a shame
for all of us, you know?
[Ki-hong] Yeah?
If I were thinking, "I wish
these guests would leave soon,"
I'd just say, "Have a safe trip back."
[laughs]
I can talk to my student,
maybe delay the session by a day.
Really?
-It's possible.
-Yeah.
Honestly, I'm staying because I want to.
I felt sad about leaving.
KI-HONG: YES
But what I really want
is for all three of us to stay longer.
You're right.
I knew he was on the fence about this.

AH-JIN: NO
Let's head to the island,

-Let's all go out for lunch.
-Yeah.
-How does that sound, kids?
-Great.
We can grab a bowl of mulhoe.
We gotta leave now.
-[Dam] I'm getting on first.
-[Kian] Let's go.
OFF TO EAT MULHOE
Looks like this is the place.
-[Ye-eun] It's here?
-[Jin] Here?
All right. Raise your hands
if you want mulhoe.
SQUID MULHOE
-Mulhoe?
-Mulhoe.
Two steamed whole squid.
-You got it.
-Yeah.
Hold on, what's the plan for us today?
[Sung-ho] We were getting around
on rented scooters.
We have to return those.
You're returning them today?
-There're three motorcycles.
-[Sung-ho] Yes.
[Jin] Wait, there's no one
to drive one of them.
-We'll see him off first.
-[Ki-hong] Okay.
You can return them with me.
-That would make things easier for us.
-Yeah, exactly.
Let's do a better job for dinner tonight.
I'm a good cook.
Today, we're gonna make something
really good for dinner.
Yesterday's dinner was really good.
Ah, the smell of curry.
[all laughing]
Yeah, it was good.
Ah!
One of the suggestions made yesterday
was to give a Kian-style welcome drink
to the guests.
A welcome drink?
How about a "welcome rice ball" instead?
-[snaps fingers] Good.
-[Jin] Right?
-That's a good idea.
-Right?
You're a good-idea factory. I never
would've put those words together.
We have some leftover kimchi, right?
I'll make kimchi fried rice with it.
-Yeah, a welcome kimchi rice ball.
-"A welcome kimchi rice ball."

Wow! That looks amazing.

and squid. In the mulhoe.

first, put a spoonful of gochujang

Then try some mixed with rice,
and after that, add two or three ladles
of broth and noodles to it.
-Add more rice too.

[slurps]
THIS IS DELICIOUS
[Ye-eun] Looks good.
I really like mulhoe.
JIN ADDS MORE BROTH
[Ye-eun] It's good.
[slurping]
[woman] I'll put the steamed squid
in the middle.
-[Ye-eun] Wow, it's so plump!
-[Kian] Amazing.
-The best day ever.
-[Ye-eun] Right?
[gulps, exhales]
-Take your time, everybody.
-[slurping]
EVERYONE IS STILL EATING
I'm so tired.
Ye-eun, pay the bill.
Get a box for the leftovers.
-Where are you going?
-Huh?
Where are you going?
You should stay since you're the owner.
No, I should let everybody
eat comfortably. Yeah.
Enjoy your meal, everybody.
[all] Thank you.

[Jin] What's he doing?
Why is he being like that?
I'll go outside and ask.

Living like you

[Kian] Mmm.
FULLY ADAPTED TO KIAN-STYLE
[Kian] Mmm.
10 MINUTES LATER
Ugh.
What a piece of work. How can you
lie down like that right after eating?
-The guests done?
-No.
I was gonna do paintings for all of them.
I even brought canvases and paint.
In order for you to properly paint them,
you'll need to leave all the other work
to me and Ye-eun.
Right now, we're too short-staffed
for me to dump my work on you two.
No, not at all, we have some time.
We're not that crazy busy.
Haven't you ever been busy?
There must've been a time
you're constantly drawing
and only getting an hour of sleep.
I'd get about two, three hours of sleep.
Yeah, exactly, and compared to that,
this is so leisurely, peaceful.
-Really?
-Yeah.
Let's go.
[Kian grunts]
-Bye, Ah-jin.
-Thanks for coming.
-I had a great time.
-Thanks.
-Great to meet you.
-Bye-bye.
-See you later.
-Best of luck with everything.
[Jung-hwan] Say bye to Ah-jin.
-Bye, Seong-eun.

-Aw, thanks.
Sorry to see you go.
[Jin] How come you're leaving
before everyone?
It was fun. I hope you visit us again.
Yeah, thank you for the past
two nights and three days.
Yes, thank you.
[Jin] Safe trip back.
Thanks for the benches.
-We'll put them to good use.
-Take care.
[Ah-jin] I was scared at first.
I thought,
"How can a house be built this way?"
But the more time I spent there,
the more fun it became.
I think it was a very Kian-esque holiday.
[Seong-eun] Honestly,
the atmosphere was really great.
Thanks to Kian's B&B, I was able
to challenge myself a little more.
Thank you, Kian. [chuckles]

-Oh, nice.
[Tae-in] You got this.
Tougher than I expected.
SUCCESS
Let's go.
TAE-IN IS UP NOW
[Min-jun] Don't overexert yourself.
-Yeah, nice.
-[both exclaim]
[Min-seob] Let's go eat.
-[Min-jun] Perfect time to wrap up.
-[Min-seob] We'll put this away then eat.
-A fun two hours.
-[Min-jun] Short and sweet.
[Min-seob] I had fun.
TODAY'S CLIMB WAS SATISFACTORY
THE OWNER IS ALSO CLIMBING
-Nice.
-Hey.
SLIPS
[grunts]
-Why is it so slippery?
-Oh, dear.
Why's it so slippery here too?
Some cooking oil must have gotten on here.
There's no oil on the pole.
Try pushing my feet up.
-Your feet?
-Yeah, push my feet up.
-Push hard!
-Ahh!
-Move out of the way.
-Is that enough?
[Kian] Hold on.
[Ye-eun] Step on this.
[grunts]
[Ye-eun laughing]
What the Why is this so slippery?
[both laughing]
How are we supposed to get upstairs?
Let me wipe the dust off my feet first.
I washed my hands.
Oh!
Oh!
Oh! [laughs] You did it!
You're up!
[panting]
[panting]
I need to rest.
[groans] I'm exhausted.
-Hi, Ma.
-[over phone] Oh, hi, hello.
I was wondering how you were doing.
-Are you in Seoul?
-Yeah.
-Where are you?
-I'm in Ulleungdo.
When did you go to Ulleungdo?
It's been about four or five days now?
-Four or five days? Oh wow.
-I'm just doing my best.
-How's the weather?
-Weather's fine enough.
-Have you eaten yet?
-Yeah, I'm eating just fine.
Eat well while you're there.
No, they're all younger than me,
so I need to look after them.
-You should look after them. You should.
-Yeah, yeah.
Sounds good. And if there's anything else
that happens, I'll call you, Ma.
-You can call me anytime.
-Yeah, okay.
JIN AND THE KAIST TEAM RETURN
[Jin] Mr. Owner.
Mr. Owner, shouldn't you be making dinner?
I already did.
I decided we're having rice balls today.
-[Sung-ho] Sounds good.
-[Ki-hong] Wow.
[Jin] I'm hungry, let me eat one.
I'm starving.
I want to eat.
-[amusing music playing]
-[groans]
God.
But once I go downstairs, I can't get
back up without help from the climbers.
-Got your phone?
-Yeah.
-Your phone charger?
-Don't worry about it.
-Wait, and I'll pass it down.
-Got it.
LET'S HEAD DOWN TO THE DINING HALL
Are those rice balls?
TODAY'S DINNER
KIAN-STYLE RICE BALLS & SCRAMBLED EGGS
Eating with our hands?
[Jin] From now on, every meal
must be eaten with your hands.
Which one should I pick?
[Ye-eun] It's like a packed lunch.
We have a lot of stuff to eat today.
[Ki-hong] The eggs look good.
A LADLE FOR SERVING SCRAMBLED EGGS
BEGINS EATING WITH BARE HANDS
It's like kimchi pancakes.
Why does this rice ball
taste like kimchi jeon?
-You're right.
-[Jin] Right?
-It does taste like kimchi jeon.
-Who made these?
-Mr. Owner.
-Tastes good.
It's not bad at all.
-I've liked all the dinners I've had here.
-The curry was good too.
I think we've acclimated to this place.
YE-EUN ATE WHILE FACING THE WALL YESTERDAY
-After a few times, it's not bad.
-[Ki-hong] Yeah.
SHE GOT USED TO EATING
WITH HER HANDS IN A DAY
NATURALLY EATING WITH BARE HANDS
NATURALLY DOING THEIR OWN DISHES
EVERYONE IS GETTING USED TO KIAN'S B&B
We can't go out through there, can we?
How did the climbing instructor
get you upstairs?
We used life jackets last time.
REELING
-[Sung-ho] Life jackets?
-[laughs]
-[Sung-ho] "Life jackets."
-[laughter]
Whoa, the sun's already this low?
Oh!
-[Ye-eun] You're good at this.
-[Jin] You two work well together.
[chuckles]
-Did Ki-hong come upstairs?
-No, not yet.
[chuckles]
That's bad.
[Jin] I'll pull you up after I'm upstairs.
-[Ye-eun] You're so good.
-Wait, Ki-hong
-You see that thing?
-Huh?
Let's drag that here
and step on it to climb upstairs.
What?
-That green thing.
-Good idea.
-The shelving unit.
-Good idea.
-We need something like this.
-This one?
-I'll do it. Let me.
-No, let's do it together.
-Grab that side.
-They're bringing that over.
[Kian] They're bringing the shelf?
-We can do this.
-I can climb up easily now.
We need to push it this way.
Oh, this is easy. Pull me up, pull me up.
No, wait! [squeals]
[Ye-eun squeals]
-[Kian] Her head.
-[Ye-eun] Let go. Let go.
-[Jin] Do I let go? Do I lift you up?
-[Sung-ho] Pull her up.
[Jin grunts]
-[Jin] Do I let go? Do I lift you up?
-[Sung-ho] Pull her up.
[Jin grunts]
[laughing]
She's making that face again.
-Give me a life jacket.
-[Kian] Hold on. It came out again.
-[Ki-hong] Pull it down.
-[Ye-eun groans]
[laughs]
[Kian] Careful.
[Sung-ho] I'll grab him.
Okay, three, two, one.
-Good, good. Now push with your feet.
-[yelling]
-Good, good. Now push with your feet.
-[yelling]
-[yelling]
-[Ye-eun] Whoa!
-[Sung-ho] A little more.
-Come this way.
It's all right.
I'm fine, I'm good. I'm good.
Can I shake your hand? Thank you so much.
-Ah, okay, yeah.
-Why?
-[Jin sighs]
-[Ki-hong] Pretty clouds.
WITH PRETTY CLOUDS IN THE BACKGROUND
CAPTAIN JI PICKS UP THE GUESTS BY BOA
Guests of Kian's B&B, come hop on.
Hello.
[Jung-hwan] Careful.
THE CLIMBING TEAM AND THE HA FAMILY RETURN
Let's have a glass of beer. Hold on.
-Wanna sit over here?
-On the bench?
A BEER ON THE BENCH MADE BY AH-JIN
Should I bring this too?
The three of us can sit together.
-[Ki-hong] Ah, this is nice.
-[Kian] Comfy.
The B&B's so uncomfortable
that this seems comfy.
[all laugh]
-Cheers.
-[both] Cheers.
THAT HIT THE SPOT!
-Ah, the wind is so nice and cool.
-[Kian] Yeah. It's nice.
-You two are leaving tomorrow?
-[both] Yeah.
I couldn't sleep last night
because I was so sad about leaving.
-That bad, huh?
-I kept telling my friends.
We tried to get him to sleep,
but he wouldn't.
I was here, looking up at the stars.
All night, I was like,
"Man, I can't sleep."
If you're going to miss it that much,
I'll install a pole in your dorm room.
-Wow, thank you.
-[laughing]
Seriously, throughout high school
and college,
studying is all anyone ever did.
-Yeah.
-This is so different.
It's hard to understand
how we kept that pace before.
You guys are amazing too.
Before you guys, I'd never met anyone
who went to the mountains
to catch bugs at night.
-Well
-People like you guys are hard to find.
[all laughing]
[Ki-hong] You've never stargazed here?
-Stars? I've been falling asleep early.
-Oh, really?
-Here
-It's like they're about to fall to Earth.
[Sung-ho] Somehow,
even the stars look bigger.
[dreamy music playing]
It's called the Pleiades star cluster.
-Pleiades?
-In Korean, they're called Trifling Stars.
There are a lot of stars in the cluster,
but there are seven stars
that are the brightest among the rest.
So if you can see all of them,
it means the sky is pretty clear.
I realized that I could see seven.
Even eight sometimes.
ULLEUNGDO ISLAND IS A GREAT PLACE
TO SEE THE PLEIADES
Wonder what it'd be like.
I used to think about that all the time.
Like, "What's at the end of the universe?
Is there a wall?
Or what happens if you tap on it?
Is there a floor? A ceiling?"
What other fascinating stuff is there?
Can't see all the way to Andromeda, right?
[Kian] That conversation was fun.
Talking about stars and everything.
I'm pretty curious about science-y stuff.
So I think that's why
I found that conversation stimulating.
THE RETURNING GUESTS SIT FOR DINNER
-Today's dinner was made by Mr. Owner.
-[Ye-eun] Mr. Owner cooked today.
USING HANDS TO SERVE FOOD
No one seems stressed eating with their
hands now that they've gotten used to it.
This is much better
than yesterday's curry.
I was hoping I'd be given a spoon today.
FIRST REFUSAL TO EAT WITH BARE HANDS?
-So I wouldn't have to use my hands.
-[laughter]
-[Yul] It's kimchi fried rice.
-[Tae-in] Let's eat!
LOVES EATING WITH BARE HANDS
MORE THAN THE OWNER DOES
It's good.
-[Min-jun] Are you throwing that out?
-[Jin] I don't know if it's garbage, but
It's kimchi fried rice.
I found some meat.
MINING MEAT IN RICE BALLS
-Is the food okay?
-[Min-jun] Yes.
-[Tae-in] Good.
-I'm glad.
[Ye-eun] You're hungry.
[Kian] Do you
STARTLED
have enough food?
-Done eating.
-We finished it all.
EMPTY BOWLS
[Kian] Then it wasn't enough.
[Tae-in] No, it's fine.
THE RICE BALLS WEREN'T ENOUGH FOR DINNER
You want some cold soybean broth?
If you add noodles,
would it become kongguksu?
It would.
-We don't have noodles.
-We do.
-[Jung-hwan] Somyeon?
-Oh.
Want us to cook somyeon?
Should we?
-I'm a big fan of kongguksu.
-I really like kongguksu.
Let's make sone.
-That'd be great.
-Quickly.
SECOND DISH
KONGGUKSU
How many portions should I make? Two?
-Two.
-Two?
KONGGUKSU CUSTOMERS
IN CHARGE OF COLD SOYBEAN BROTH
YE-EUN
ADDS SOME BAMBOO SALT THAT SHE BROUGH
[whirring]
THE COLD SOYBEAN BROTH IS NOW READY
I bet it's going to be good.
I even put in bamboo salt.
CHILLS IT IN THE FREEZER
The freezer is so cold.
IN CHARGE OF BOILING NOODLES
JIN
Oh, it's hot.
It's cooked.
[exhales]
Hey, I want some of that too.
[Ye-eun] Wow, that looks amazing.
See? Who's this one for?
[Tae-in] Oh, it's mine. Thank you.
[Min-seob] Thanks for the food.
GLANCES
Why are you trying to read
my expression? [chuckles]
This one's a bit tough to eat too.
Oh, I see.
Kongguksu is pretty tough to eat.
Why? Oh, it's tough to eat?
Eating this is pretty tough.
[hesitates, chuckles]
Let me be honest about this.
I'm fine with eating curry and maybe
up to jjajang noodles with my hands,
but even people from India
would probably be shocked
to see us eat kongguksu with our hands.
All food in this B&B
must be eaten with your hands.
If you sit here,
you have to use your hands.
You have to eat with your hands.
THEY'RE MORE EAGER THAN THE OWNER
I can't help but be a bit hesitant.
Right? I mean, I can grab rice
with my hands just fine. But
Yeah, this is a liquid.
EVEN KIAN HESITATES
WAITING FOR OTHERS TO TRY FIRS
-Whoa!
-[laughing]
[laughs]
-This isn't really that bad.
-What? This is brutal.
[Jin] What does that mean?
-[Ki-hong] The worst.
-Cold.
[all laughing]
-[Tae-in] It's so cold.
-It should be eaten cold.
[all laughing]
Mmm. [slurps]
It's so good.
[Sung-ho] Really?
NODS
-Is it good?
-It's so good. It's delicious.
How's the seasoning?
[Tae-in] If I could get salt
Yeah! You need salt.
[Jin] I prefer sugar.
-You should be putting sugar.
-You're supposed to put salt.
-Sugar, sugar.
-Jin knows what's up.
-It's sugar.
-[Ye-eun] It's salt.
TEAM SUGAR
-[Ki-hong] It's sugar.
-Sugar's correct. Salt's incorrect.
-Salt wouldn't taste good.
-[Tae-in] Salt is needed.
-Salt's the seasoning for kongguksu.
-Yes.
TEAM SAL
-[Ye-eun] It's salt.
-Sugar's the only way to go.
The sweetness will spread
throughout your mouth.
No, the savoriness of salt is key.
The kongguksu must be
loving all this attention.
SUGAR: 2
SALT: 3
It's too bland with salt.
-No, sugar makes it taste bland.
-[Sung-ho] I think she's right.
HE JUST WANTS A BITE
-[Min-jun] I'm fine. I'm full.
-[Tae-in] It's good.
It's good. Sugar is better. Say, "Ah."
[Min-jun] No.
[Jin] It's good. Sugar's better.
[all laughing]
It looks like a baby octopus.
BABY OCTOPUS
[Min-seob] It's similar in color too.
[Jin] Good? I knew it.
Sugar's the better seasoning.
Isn't it good? I knew it.
Sugar's the better seasoning.
-It's not bad with sugar.
-I told you. Sugar's superior.
-Is it good?
-Come closer.
GUESTS JOIN THE BATTLE FOR A BITE
Could I try some with my hands?
FINGERS JOIN THE BATTLE
It's good with salt too.
-Oh, it's good.
-It's nice, right?
-It's savory.
-I like this one.
SUGAR: 2
SALT: 5
-[Sung-ho] Salt is better.
-[Ye-eun] See?
REALLY?
-This the one with salt?
-Yes.
CURIOUS ABOUT SAL
Great.
This has almost no salt though.
Oh, it's fine. Is it okay
if I dip my fingers in there?
-It's fine.
-Really?
-[Sung-ho] Can I have the broth?
-[Ye-eun] I prefer salt.
[Tae-in] It's good with salt. Try this.
GOBBLES
This one has salt in it.
Let's all agree on one seasoning.
-[Ye-eun] I want the broth.
-Salt is better.
Yeah. Of course.
I was confused for a sec, but I think
I like the salt a little better.
SUGAR: 1
SALT: 6
No, try the one with sugar again.
-Here.
-[Ye-eun] Don't listen to him.
Don't dip your fingers in my bowl.
Take this, take this.
-Why not? That's cold.
-[Ye-eun] My family adds salt.
Be honest. Salt, right?
Sugar is better.
Sugar is better.
It's kind of like
the jjajang versus jjamppong rivalry.
That's what this feels like.
I can't decide.
-It depends on the day.
-[Kian] Yeah.
-Mmm. Interesting.
-Let me try it again.
BUT I PREFER SAL
Stop dipping your fingers
in someone else's bowl!
-He said it's okay.
-I'm okay.
He already said it's okay.
Min-seob and I
have gotten down and dirty.
You need to clarify "down and dirty."
Our hands have gotten
down and dirty in this bowl.
JUST OUR HANDS
[laughter]
He's done this before.
[all laughing]
He even added some flavor to it.
-Know what I mean?
-I think he's right.
It's slowly getting saltier.
Ew, that's so gross!
This oddly feels like
I'm being multiplied.
I guess stuff like this is how
people grow closer.
Let's head up.
The dining hall closes at 9.
[Ye-eun] Closed.
Hey, guys, check this out.
[all exclaiming]
-[Tae-in] Cool!
-[Ye-eun] He's a Gen MZ!
-Young people know what's cool.
-[Ye-eun] You youngster.
It feels like I'm on a pirate ship.
-It's pretty.
-[Ye-eun] Sure is.
This works as a disco ball too. Look.
[all] Whoa!
Wow, that's incredible.
-Amazing, right?
-Dope!
I bought one with a disco ball attachment
so we could party.
This is like the vibe of a karaoke bar
in the early 2000s.
-Ones with cigarette burns on the seats.
-[all laughing]
A KIAN-STYLE THOUGH
-I know those karaoke bars.
-Those bars stank.
But somehow, being here
feels like I've been sent
to a different world.
It's as though time isn't passing.
Seriously, once we go back, it's going to
feel like we're waking up from a dream.
-I think so too.
-[Jin] Same.
Once we go home,
it feels like waking up from a dream.
-For sure.
-Yeah.
After I'm done filming,
somehow, I feel so empty.
For me, I feel that when I lie down in bed
after a concert. I go like, "Ah"
Why? Your fans must cheer for you
so much at concerts.
Yeah, I'm getting all that cheering
-[Ye-eun] Then you're home.
-Then it's gone.
Oh, once you go home.
And then you're home.
Plus, your ears continue to ring
because we have our in-ear monitors
turned up high.
So there's a constant buzzing in my ears
as I go back to bed.
So I sort of zone out and just lie there
for 30 minutes to an hour.
-I think I'd feel the same.
-Me too.
Should we be more quiet?
-Are we too loud for the kids?
-[Ye-eun] Don't think so.
Want to sleep here? Or here?
-[Yul] Doesn't matter to me.
-[Dam] I'll sleep here.
This is fun.
This is so fun.
[Jung-hwan] All right, lights out. Okay.
Sleeping like this really isn't so bad.
It's more comfortable than I expected.
BARRACKS-STYLE SLEEPING ISN'T BAD
-You did well today, boys.
-[Yul] Yeah.
-It's already the last night.
-Are you kidding me right now?
The climbing part was fun.
You can get up tomorrow and climb, right?
Here's a goodnight kiss. One for Dam.
[kisses] Sweet dreams.
The kids need to sleep down there.
We set up some lights out front,
so let's relocate there.
-[Ye-eun] Outside?
-[Kian] Yeah.
-The wind'll be nice and cool.
-[Jin] Yeah.
[Kian] Sir, we're going to move down here.
Will the kids
be able to fall asleep quickly?
-[Jung-hwan] They're about to sleep.
-[Kian] I'm so sorry.
-[Jung-hwan] I'm sorry. I'll be right out.
-You're so busy looking after the kids.
Can we use this as a table?
It's perfect! How romantic!
It's so romantic.
All this light is so stunning.
-Yeah, let me turn this off.
-[gasps] Good idea!
[dreamy music playing]
So nice.
-Ah-jin made these benches for us.
-[Ki-hong] It's great.
-It's so nice out here. Incredible.
-Look at that.
I think I like having some time
to chat with all the guests like this
before they leave.
Same, I like it.
I really don't wanna go back.
Why do you not want to?
Earlier, Jin said something about
waking up from a dream.
-Mmm.
-I just don't want to wake up from it.
-That's how I feel too.
-[Ye-eun] Me too.
You know, hearing that,
it's like the best compliment possible.
-It's the highest praise.
-[Min-seob] Seriously.
It seems like you're stressed,
but being a guest here was fun.
-[Kian] Really?
-Honestly
where else would you experience
something like this?
-When would I ever sleep on a boat?
-Seriously!
-On a barge like this.
-What place is there like this?
[Ye-eun] Nowhere else.
It's so bare bones inside,
and you sleep outside.
Exactly. Right, right, right.
And you open your eyes
to the ocean and the mountain.
[Min-seob] Exactly.
It's a unique experience.
I don't think I'll want to wake up
from this dream either.
It feels Hey!
-[Ye-eun] What?
-I saw a shooting star!
-[Ye-eun] Seriously?
-Where?
[Kian] It feels Hey!
It feels Hey!
-[Ye-eun] What?
-I saw a shooting star!
Seriously? Seriously?
Here he is.
Guess what? A shooting star just fell.
Really? You can see that from here?
It's been ages since I saw one.
-Wow.
-Look at the stars.
You don't drink?
-No, I quit drinking.
-[Tae-in] Cool.
-Pour him a nonalcoholic drink.
-[Jung-hwan] Yeah.
It's so clear out.
You can see so many constellations.
Sir, come here, sit with me. Here.
-Might feel a bit awkward there.
-Thank you.
INVITES HIM TO SIT ON THE GROUND
[sighs]
Sorry I'm so late.
No worries. Are the kids asleep?
Yeah.
[Kian] I barely got the chance
to talk to you when you first got here.
-Right.
-[Sung-ho] That's just greedy.
Is that a beverage?
Yeah, it's nonalcoholic.
-[Kian] Nice.
-[Jung-hwan] Ah, yes.
-Cheers.
-Cheers.
-[Min-seob] Here's a plate.
-I can't drink sitting like this.
[squeaking]
[chuckling]
-You're going to remember me, right?
-Of course.
Catch me on TV.
I watch SNL Korea all the time.
I watch the full episodes.
Thank you.
You got people's attention and became
popular with your comedy acting.
Yeah.
But aren't you at least a little worried
about being pigeonholed
as a comedy actor because of that?
-I wanted to make people laugh.
-[guests] Mmm.
I loved it when other people
watched me and laughed.
I decided I needed to do comedy
no matter what.
I was unsuccessful for a long time,
but I wanted people to notice me,
even if I was typecast.
You didn't care.
Yeah, and I'm usually
a really cheerful person,
but I was in a really, really dark place
for a while.
-That must've been really hard.
-Bad things happen all at once, right?
You're right. When it rains, it pours.
-[Ye-eun] Right?
-Totally.
You know, if you look at
white-collar workers
I'm 44 years old.
-You're three years older than I am.
-Yeah, that's right.
I was your average office worker
for about 18 years,
so obviously, that means I love to drink.
I loved drinking,
hanging out with friends.
All of that.
But at some point, to put it bluntly,
I was "shitting blood." Can I say that?
-My God. Really?
-Yeah.
And the reason I said
I don't drink is because
I was actually diagnosed
with rectal cancer about three years ago.
Oh. Oh wow.
Yeah, so, anyway [inhales sharply]
And how are you doing now?
I think in terms of
the rectal cancer,
I'm pretty much in remission,
so that's good.
Oh, that's a relief.
Hey, it's noisy here,
so why don't we go over
to the sleeping area and keep talking?
Just 'cause
it's kind of crowded over here.
Let's head over first.
-Leaving?
-[Kian] Yeah.
[Jin] Heading to bed?
No, I'm going to talk for a bit
with Jung-hwan.
So, then, how are you doing now
in terms of health?
[Jung-hwan] Kinda out of the frying pan
into the fire.
-I was also diagnosed with lung cancer.
-Oh, um
It spread to my whole body.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
Wait, but the kids I don't know
if I should ask this, but do the kids
Yeah, they do generally know
that their dad is sick.
Actually, Dam once asked me,
"Dad, what's pancreatic cancer?"
and, "If you get it, do you die?"
Yeah.
I said, "Why do you ask?" and he replied,
"I heard that's what the soccer player
Yoo Sang-chul died from."
So, that's when I realized,
any mention of cancer
might make them really afraid,
and then they might think,
"Oh, Dad's definitely gonna die now."
So, I haven't told them
exactly what my sickness is yet.
[Kian] So the kids don't exactly know yet.
[Jung-hwan] Yeah.
The kids might find out about the cancer
through this show or realize it somehow
Um
[inhales sharply]
That's concerning too.
The kids could be traumatized.
Right, they'll be shocked,
no doubt about it.
But I also think they have a right
to know what's really going on.
-You know?
-Right. True.
Why I'm spending
so much time with them now.
If I get a lot more time with them,
of course, I'd be so thankful for that.
[laughs]
I'm afraid that the time I have
may be running out.
[giggling]
[Jung-hwan] What's most important is
spending time with the kids
and making good memories with them
that they can look back on.
Okay, okay, okay, come here. Take my hand.
-[whimpers]
-Okay, okay.
[laughs]
-Can you see my love for you?
-Yeah, I can totally see it over there.
[laughs]
-[laughs] Oh, come on.
-Good job.
-[Yul] My shorts
-Good job.
No, that's not fair.
-Oh, here, have a drink.
-Cheers.
Sure.
Having a family come here to stay with us
is something I hadn't expected.
Ah, right, yeah.
But you came, so I thought
I thought, "I should have
a chat with him," but you're
-Oh, man, why do you have to be sick?
-[laughing]
Why do you have to be sick?
Why does it have to be this way?
Oh, damn it.
Yeah, you know
Don't be sick, please.
Oh, so Oh, man.
My dad passed away when I was 26, and
You look at it one way,
he passed after he'd raised me,
but he had lung cancer.
My dad liked fishing.
So, I'd go fishing with him.
But then he got sick.
-[sighs]
-I was 26.
I was going to start my webtoon,
but I was broke, so my dad gave me
some money to get started.
I was so angry with myself because, well,
I wanted a chance
to repay him for raising me.
I was in a terrible spot,
so my dad gave me money.
That was
All I ever did was take from him.
[melancholy music playing]
[breathes deeply]
But, well I don't know.
Before he passed away,
he asked me to go fishing with him,
probably because he wanted
to spend time with me,
and I feel like that's where you're at.
-Even if he didn't say it
-Yeah.
[sniffles] He was
BLOWS HIS NOSE
-Excuse me.
-Oh, man. [chuckles]
Oh, man. [chuckles] Don't we have tissues?
-Come on.
-I need to wash it anyway.
Seriously?
[both laugh]
[sniffles] Mmm.
-You need to beat this.
-Of course.
-So the kids
-Yeah, of course.
But for now at least,
according to my chart, I'm improving.
Good.
If my cancer wasn't getting better
and only worsening,
I probably would've just hid it
and not said anything about it
because things wouldn't be
looking very good.
Ah.
But in terms of my disease,
things are really turning a corner.
-[Kian] Ah.
-[hopeful music playing]
I'm currently receiving oral chemotherapy.
Fortunately, my genes make it possible
to treat my cancer with medication.
Oh.
-Which is so lucky.
-That's such a relief.
The doctor said to me,
"Your genetics allow you to receive
chemotherapy through medication"
Uh-huh.
"so you should be able to do chemo
while also living a normal, healthy life."
Oh wow.
So that gave me the chance
to spend time with my kids like this
instead of just being cooped up
in a hospital.
So how much how much time has passed
since you were diagnosed?
-That was about two years ago.
-Two years ago?
That's right. So that's how
I've been living my life ever since.
Just happily fighting
the disease. [laughs]
You know
-Maybe I'm a good luck charm.
-Really?
Honestly.
I mean it.
Miracles seem to keep happening around me.
I'm serious.
It's
I think you can beat this. For real.
Of course.
I'm gonna pray to the Buddha before bed.
[Jung-hwan] Dam.
-[Dam] Dad?
-Yeah? Were you asleep?
[Dam] I was trying to.
This whole time, I kept thinking,
"Hey, why isn't Dad coming?"
I was really worried.
[Jung-hwan] Sorry to keep you waiting.
You were waiting for me, huh?
[Dam] Yeah.
[Jung-hwan] Let's sleep for real now.
I'll be here beside you.
I love you so much.
[soft music playing]
Ah, this is nice.
[guests laughing]
[chuckles softly]
[sighs]
[Kian] Good luck.
Good luck.
[Ye-eun] Wow, there are so many stars!
[Min-seob] I've never seen so many
in South Korea.
[Tae-in] This isn't common.
There are just so many up there.
[Ye-eun] I want to see a shooting star.
Have you ever seen one?
-Did you make a wish?
-[Ki-hong] No. It went by too fast.
[Kian] Time you got used to this pole.
Customer satisfaction comes from details.
Let's shake out the blankets today.
-[Jin laughing]
-God, Kian84!
[gags]
[Jin] Given his state,
I don't think he can do it.
-[Ye-eun] Oh, dear.
-[Kian] This is tough.
-[Jin] We better pick up the guests.
-[man 1] Kian's B&B minus Kian.
-I'm scared.
-[Jin] Joon-bin, come up!
Why don't we play in the pool?
-[Ye-eun] So reliable.
-[man 2] My brother!
-[Ye-eun] Why's he doing that?
-He's such a weirdo.
Mr. Owner, what are you doing?
You're putting that in there?
-[squeals]
-[Jin] The two cohorts are very different.
The god of Ulleungdo answers!
The god of Ulleungdo answers!
The god of Ulleungdo
KIAN'S BIZARRE B&B
