Knight Rider (1982) s03e14 Episode Script

Junk Yard Dog

KlTT! | Michael, help! This one's on me.
| The next one is on me.
l shall have to recommend he | be reclassified for light duty.
KlTT is the world's greatest | automobile.
KlTT cannot be trusted | under pressure.
What happened? Let's do it! Knight Rider a shadowy flight into the | dangerous world of a man who does not exist.
Michael Knight, | a young loner on a crusade to champion | the cause of the innocent the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals | who operate above the law.
Michael, Devon is calling.
Hello, Michael.
| Hello, yourself.
lf you'd waited a couple more | minutes, we could talk face to face.
We're almost | back to the semi now.
That's why I'm calling.
| I'm afraid I won't be there.
I injured my back.
And I don't want any cracks about | falling off barstools, chasing blondes slipping on banana peels, | or anything like that.
Somehow, that image | didn't occur to me.
Bonnie will be doing | double duty, taking my place.
She'll fill you in on what | we've got.
What's the case? ''Acid'' John Byrock.
You can pat yourself on the back | for putting the Foundation onto him.
l'll pat myself on the back | when we put him out of business.
It took considerable research | and surveillance but I now think we have a | handle on just how to do that.
Good luck, Michael.
Let's go, buddy.
I think you're gonna like | the movie selection we have for today.
So Devon told me.
Please, tell me you caught | Acid John in the act.
No such luck.
But we have put | a lot of pieces together.
The waste disposal site | itself where acid is so powerful that | it can eat through steel and is presumably | contained but it's actually leaching | into local ground waters.
There are barrels | of toxic waste rusted, leaking.
| A nightmare.
There's our man, John Byrock, | otherwise known as Acid John.
Owner of | lnterstate Waste Disposal.
King of the polluters.
| Your friend and mine.
Yeah.
Very famous for dumping | chemicals that kill, in your backyard or in lakes and streams.
He likes his manicures today, | but he came up from the streets and there's still plenty of | dirt left on those fingernails.
Bonnie, tell me you've found | a way to nail this guy.
We concentrated | on finding his records.
They'd show a jury what chemicals | came into the disposal sites and what chemicals | were left unaccounted for.
You mean dumped.
We've been all through that.
| The D.
A.
subpoenaed his records.
And then Byrock was happy | to give them a set.
A nice, clean phony set | from his nice, clean offices.
Here.
Here's what Devon | brought you in for.
For obvious reasons, Byrock stays as | far away from the dumpsites as he can.
But we were able to catch him | there on two separate occasions and both times | carrying a briefcase.
You think the real records | are in the dumpsite.
We think | they're in that office.
And the D.
A.
says, if we can | confirm, he'll put him away.
Terrific.
Now l'm gonna do | some investigating of my own.
l think we just entered enemy | territory.
Can you give me a reading? The road surface is covered | with benzene and PCBs polyvinyl chloride, C-56 all in all, | a highly toxic combination.
You need a hand? Who are you? | l was just passing by.
You might as well just keep on | going.
There's nothing you can do.
There's nothing anyone can do.
You sure? On second thought, why not? | He's too heavy for me.
You think you can pick him up | and put him in my van? l'll take him to the vet, | for all the good it'll do.
Yeah, come on.
You know, l get the feeling | you know what's happening here.
ls this your ranch? l'm not a rancher.
| l'm a wildlife photographer.
See all these dead cattle? The illegal dumping of toxic | waste is on its way in the wildlife | is on its way out.
There you go, little guy.
Okay.
All right.
You know, everybody knows | what's going on here but no one wants to do anything | about it.
They just keep passing by.
Well, not everybody.
Look, l'm sorry.
Thanks for your help.
| My pleasure.
Take care.
| Yeah.
Thanks a lot.
You get the feeling | they don't want company? More to the point, | who'd want to visit? Yeah, right.
See if you can | find the office.
That's it.
| Upper left quadrant.
What kind of security? There's a Bell model | 211-403 safe and a Marco steel and rock | fireproof file cabinet complete with | combination lock.
Looks like we've got our work | cut out for us.
All right, l'm going in, KlTT.
KlTT, l need some help | with this lock.
Thank you.
l think we hit | the mother lode.
Activate photo-scan, will you? | Take a couple pictures of this.
Hey, you! Hey! | What are you doing in here? Hey, come here you little kitty! What | did you do? How'd you get in here? Let me go! | Give me that camera! Let me go! KlTT, we've got problems.
| Get in here.
Right away, Michael.
How'd you get in here? | Let me go! Hey, you guys, get out here! Going somewhere, fellows? Michael! KlTT! Come on! Michael, help me! Michael, help me! Michael, help me! KlTT! Michael.
l can't, buddy.
l can't.
Michael Call Byrock.
We got a break | in.
And set those dogs loose! They're coming.
| We've got to get going.
l'll be back.
| Michael l'll be back.
| Come on.
Come on.
| l'll be back.
Help.
KlTT? Let's get him out of here.
| The sooner the better.
Mr.
Byrock, there's no reason | you have to You know me? | You have a beef against me? The same beef the whole world | has.
Now what do you mean by that? Mr.
Byrock, there's no reason you | even have to talk to this person.
All right.
Look, l don't know you, l don't | know what you want, and l don't care.
But l'll tell you what, | don't come back here.
You know | what a restraining order is? You hear what l'm telling | you? No, l'm reading your lips.
Step one more foot | on this piece of property and l promise you, you will be prosecuted | to the fullest extent of the law.
You got that? | You take your hands off me or you're gonna end up | exactly where that car was.
Now, have you got that? Don't press your luck.
You're walking | out of here this time.
This one's on me.
| The next one is on me.
Michael, let's get KlTT | out of here, please.
How bad is it? He's gone, Michael.
| Destroyed.
Everything, but his frame, | his shell How long will it take | to repair him? l don't think | you understand.
lt's not a question | of repairing him it's a question | of recreating him.
There are only the barest | shreds of his memory bank left.
But he can be recreated.
With a lot of help, and a lot | of work and time, yes, but But what? But KlTT was greater than | the sum of his parts, Michael.
We can recreate the parts.
But whether they'll ever become | KlTT again, l just can't say.
We'll do it.
Whatever | it takes, we'll do it.
Now you said you need some | help.
What kind of help? Who? The original team Wilton | Knight assembled: Von Vorman Breland, and Yamata.
Where are they? Von Vorman's living in Berne, | Switzerland.
l don't know | where Yamata and Breland are.
Devon.
Michael, I've been waiting | to hear.
How is he? Not good.
Look, we need | the original team.
l don't care what you have | to do, or where they are but we need them | and we need them fast.
Michael, there's nothing you can do here.
| Why don't you go get a cup of coffee? Michael? Okay, Bob.
Let's go.
Testing, one, two, | three, testing.
Excuse me, please.
Dr.
Von Vorman, Dr.
Yamata, | l'm so glad you're here.
We came as quickly | as we could.
Let me fill you in on some of | the things we've done already.
Up five points, please.
Bob, this is Dr.
Breland.
l'd like | you to help him out any way you can.
Maybe start with showing him | your end of the problem.
How's it coming? lt's coming.
How, we | won't know for a while yet.
Why don't you go home | and get some sleep? Well, if there isn't anything | l can do There isn't.
To be honest, l could | use an hour or two.
Good.
l was looking for a polite way | to kick you out of here.
You know, Bonnie, it's funny.
| What? Sometimes it takes | something like this to make you realize how much | you take people for granted.
l'd forgotten how good | you really are.
Thank you.
Thanks for coming.
| l know it's late.
Did you bring the photos? | Yeah, they're right here.
Wow.
All of these were taken | at Byrock's dumpsite? Yeah.
More to add | to my collection.
Some of them are kind of good, | some not so good.
None of them are good enough | to make the cover of a national magazine, | though.
Have people stand up | and take notice.
l've got a dozen portfolios | filled with shots like these.
You know, it seems to me you've | made Byrock a personal crusade.
Any reason why? l came home the summer after my first | year as a professional in New York l went to the lake where we | used to go hiking and fishing.
l hadn't been there for years.
l couldn't believe the change.
The trees were either dead or dying, | there were no fish in the lake Don't tell me, let me guess.
Byrock | had a waste disposal site nearby.
Yeah.
So l extended my vacation.
l made phone calls.
l contacted every city | and state official l could.
And then finally, | 18 months later the Department of Health | issued a search warrant.
But the night before they | were to exercise it the place just happened | to burn down.
Arson.
l didn't know for sure.
Not then.
But in the two years l've been | following him l've seen it happen | three times.
You fight the local | bureaucracy, the red tape you're in a position | to move on him and then suddenly | a mysterious man shows up and there's a fire that night | that destroys everything.
l think l've got an idea | how to nail this guy.
lt'll take 18 months.
| No, it won't.
Not if it works.
Look, you have no idea | how involved due process is when it comes to toxic | waste.
Yeah, l do.
l just want to leave it to the people | with more time and more patience.
l want you to tell me everything | you know about Byrock whether you think it's | important or not, l want to know.
Hey, pal, it's me, Michael.
Hello, Michael.
Hey, how you doing, buddy? | Ready for a couple of 180s? Maybe a couple 90s, a little | crash through a wall, huh? l was just kidding here.
KlTT? I guess my humor mode | needs a little more work.
Where's Bonnie? | Did Bonnie leave? No.
She's right outside.
As a matter of fact, | she says you are doing great.
You're gonna be as good as new | in no time at all.
KlTT? Yes? Did you hear what l | just said? Yes, Michael.
Well, l l just wanted to come in here | and see you how you're doing, pal.
There's a lot of people | out there who are really anxious to get | back in here and finish you.
So, l'll see you later, huh? Goodbye, Michael.
| Bye, buddy.
Well? lt's not him.
What do you mean it's not him? | Of course it's him.
lt's KlTT.
ls, but it isn't.
l don't | know, Bonnie, something's wrong.
Well, of course there's something | wrong.
You saw what happened to him.
l don't know | what you expect of me- Bonnie, | l'm not criticizing you it's just that KlTT | - KlTT has not been finished yet.
He needs more work.
l don't | know what you expect from him.
Jokes and pratfalls? You are gonna love it.
| Forty-eight feet, twin diesels it has what they call | a ''fly bridge.
'' That's where my captain sits | when he's driving the boat.
While we're down below | partying.
We will leave | Friday afternoon about noon.
And, why don't you bring along | that cute girlfriend for Eddie? You mean Melissa? The one | that does the bikini ads? Yeah.
On second thought, | we'll leave Eddie home.
Hey, Byrock! What do you want? l'm gonna | talk and you're gonna listen.
Look, l warned you- | Yeah, you warned me but l'm gonna keep coming | down on you real hard, man until l see you out | of business for good.
Don't let the limo | and the suit fool you.
l know how to deal with you.
l | just don't have to deal with you.
You got no evidence.
| Oh, really? A little trip | to your acid pit was a lot more productive | than you thought.
Oh, really? | Then where's the law? The law's | a two-edged sword, man! You've been sitting pretty | on one side for a long time.
Now you're gonna feel the | other side.
The side that cuts.
All right, l did exactly what | l told you l was gonna do.
l rattled his chain real good.
| Now let's see if you were right.
He's going to do it, like he's done it | every time someone's gotten close before.
He's gonna burn that toxic | waste site to the ground and then go find | a new place to poison.
Fran, l wouldn't ask you to tail him, | but he's gonna be looking for me now.
l'll be the eyes and ears | for both of us.
Both of us? The man | hasn't got a chance.
lt may take a while.
But l don't have any | idea when he's gonna make his next move.
l've been waiting years.
How's KlTT doing? They're still working on him.
Response time is better, yes? Yes.
KlTT, what's the square root of | 256, and the capital of Montana? Bonnie, really KlTT, do you know the answer? Can Michael Jackson moonwalk? Sixteen and Helena, | population 22, 730.
The city boasts some lovely | old mansions along Power Street.
Police chief Bill Ware | keeps the streets safe.
And it's not as cold up there | as they say it is.
Shall I go on? | You got it.
Did l hear what l think | l heard? What do you say, pal? Michael, I'm so glad | to see you.
I have new diodes | and circuit boards Whoa! Don't wear yourself out.
He sounds great.
| How's he doing? Well, we're still not sure, but | you can see there's improvement.
Improvement? | That's an understatement.
We're planning a test run on the | track in a few minutes, Michael.
Can you be there? l wouldn't | miss it for the world.
Ta da! He looks pretty good.
| Not really.
He should be going | through this course at 100.
He's not doing | more than 60 now.
Just warming up? The suspension's too stiff, | maybe.
No, that's not it.
| Look at him.
l was afraid of that.
| What? He's been hurt.
lt's not surprising that he | doesn't want to be hurt again.
You mean he's lost his nerve? | ln layman's terms, yes.
Well, maybe if l reformat the | software Miss Barstow, l'm sorry.
l shall have to recommend he | be reclassified for light duty.
Light duty? Utility vehicle, perhaps.
A recreational use.
lt's | still a very fine automobile.
Very fine automobile? KlTT is | the world's greatest automobile.
What do you want to do? | Turn him into a golf cart? Look at him.
He's trying to play the brave | soldier, for you l suspect.
But he cannot be trusted | under pressure.
He just doesn't have it | anymore.
He'll never admit it, | but you watch.
He'll find some excuse | to stay out of the action.
A little rusty, | but not bad, eh, Michael? Yeah.
You looked | great out there, pal.
You ready for business? Just as | soon as you can get me out of here.
I have been poked, | prodded, and violated.
Oh, my! Fire! Maybe they should tow me back to | - No.
No one | is going to tow you anywhere.
We are going back to Bay 3 and | we are going to get you in shape.
And then we are going | to come out here and we are going to run this | test until you get it perfect.
Now, have you | got that straight? Mr.
Knight, with all | due respect- l appreciate everything | you've done, Dr.
Von Vorman but the ball's in my court | now.
You with me, Bonnie? You bet.
Gotcha! All right! And now, | the final touch.
Yes! Way to go, partner.
Very good.
Very, very good! Nice to have you back | at the controls, Michael.
Yeah! lt's nice | to be here, partner.
lt's very nice to be here.
We are back! Perfect! Just one more test.
Michael, that's 14 inches | of reinforced concrete! No sweat, pal.
We've | penetrated twice that much.
What happened? Michael, at this stage of my recovery | - KlTT we could have gone through | that thing like shaving cream.
Trust me, will you? I do trust you, but I'm sorry, Michael.
| lt's okay, pal.
Sorry.
What happened? | Why didn't you finish? Michael, we got him! Terrific! That's him.
| Who? Mike Zoormagian, the most | infamous arsonist in the country.
That's him meeting with | Byrock today.
lt worked.
What worked? Byrock's | gonna blow the dumpsite and we're gonna | catch him doing it.
Get ready for the ride | of your life.
Michael, you can't take him.
| Oh, yes l can.
What if he gives out on you | just when you need him most? Or what if he tries to work | for you and tries too hard? Michael, I'm not sure | I'm ready.
KlTT, we're partners, aren't we? Yes.
And you trust me, don't you? | Yes.
Then believe me | when l tell you, we're ready.
Wish me luck! I was hoping I'd never | see this place again, Michael.
l know how you feel.
lf things work out, | this'll be the last time.
Here we go.
That tanker full or empty? Full to the brim.
Michael its contents are identical | to those awful chemicals in the pit.
All right, get me Bonnie.
| I'm here with Fran, Michael.
Bonnie, it's going down.
There's a fully loaded tanker | headed out right now.
l'll relay the information | to the state police.
They're ready to set up | a roadblock.
All right, tell them to hustle | up.
You know where to find me.
That's what worries me.
You | two take care of yourselves.
Michael, I just detected tumblers | opening the security locks in that office.
lt's all falling into place, | KlTT.
Byrock is cleaning house.
He's covering his tracks | with his usual M.
O.
All the evidence will go up in | flames when Zoormagian does his bit.
Al! | Yeah, boss.
Get everybody out of here.
You got 15 | minutes, then this place is going up.
You got it.
That's got to be Zoormagian.
Yes, sir, right on cue.
Well, isn't that a pretty | picture.
Partners in crime.
What do you say we | photograph it for posterity? Not to mention the D.
A.
Careful with that stuff, | or we'll both be history.
You hire an expert, | and then you lose faith.
I've got a 1.
:30 flight.
I don't want anything to | happen until after I'm gone.
Video and audio? | I remember the plan, Michael.
l had a feeling you would.
Too bad.
| It was a gold mine.
There'll be others.
| You burn it good.
It'll be | like it was never here.
Two minutes.
I've got | to clear out the safe.
Byrock just talked himself | right into jail.
You ready? What exactly | are we going to do, Michael? KlTT, you were just bragging | about your memory.
Michael, if you're suggesting I'm afraid, | nothing could be further from the truth.
I don't experience fear.
I do, however, abide | by my dominant program the preservation of human life.
I | mean, you could be hurt down there.
KlTT before we met when l was still | Michael Long What am l telling you this for, | huh? You already know what happened.
But maybe you don't know | all of it.
When I regained consciousness | a couple days later I could still see | that muzzle flash in my face.
I couldn't get it | out of my mind.
For months after that, every | time somebody lit a match or car headlights went by | in my face, l'd flinch.
How did you overcome | it, Michael? l didn't.
lt overcame itself.
All l did was refuse | to give in to it and do what l knew | had to be done.
Speaking of what has to be done, I | believe we have an arsonist to stop.
Gotcha.
You ready? Yes, Michael, | I am.
And Michael thanks.
| Piece of cake.
Silent mode.
Nicely done, Michael.
| Thanks, pal.
We're not finished yet.
| We got to find Byrock.
Michael We could micro-lock | his brakes.
That wouldn't prove much, | would it? No, it wouldn't, partner.
lt's you and me, pal.
| lt's you and me.
Let's do it! Welcome back, buddy! | Welcome back.
I must admit, this is | a good feeling, Michael.
Let's do it, KlTT.
| Let's end it.
Decoy him to the pit.
All right, let's end it | right here.
Come on.
Payback time.
What a shame.
Get me out of here! Over here! That's perfect.
What are you two doing here? We're getting the cover for | Newswatch magazine, what else? Come on.
What is this? Get | me out of here.
What is this? l believe it's called | ''hazardous waste disposal.
'' Wouldn't you agree, partner? | I most certainly would.
Sorry about the rain.
Well, a picnic's a picnic, | and this way there's no ants.
Very, very good point.
Bet you're real proud of | that photograph, aren't you? Yeah, it's been | a long time coming.
Well, l'm glad we're the ones | who made sure he finally got wasted.
Yes, well, unless my speed reading | program has developed a glitch I can't find anything in the | accompanying article that indicates who put those Neanderthals | into that acid pit.
Why, KlTT l seem to detect a subtle craving | for recognition in that statement.
After | what I've been through a little publicity might help | reinforce my self-image.
Well, gee, | l'm real sorry, buddy.
l thought you were one of | those old-type heroes, you know? The kind who just | drove off into the sunset secure in the knowledge that you could handle any | situation that might arise.
I don't know if those | old-time heroes were so much.
I mean, they always drank | sarsaparilla and never kissed the girl.
What was all that about? | Michael? Michael? Michael.
Michael.
