will then move on to what's called
the State Championships.
It's the top four teams from the south,
meeting with
the top four teams of the north.

and anything can happen
in a one-game, um, knockout.

anybody can get hot.

Even as a player,
I've never seen it this balanced.
This is the first time I've ever seen it,
like, you really can't complain.

I know it's a slap in the face to AVC,
but I'm gonna just prepare for Saddleback.

We the top seed and we've gotten a bye,
and we're just kind of
waitin' around to play.
But I'm making the assumption
that Saddleback is gonna win.
We'll probably see them this Saturday.
His thing, he just wanna beat Saddleback
because that was always
the cream of the crop.
They run a great program,
they always talented
and they always seem
to have had his number.
Saddleback, man, they're a big team,
man, they're huge, well-coached.
In 2015, we played them
in the state championship game.
[commentator] This is it for
all the marbles, for all of the glory,
for the state championship.
[John] The game was was close,
I felt really good about it.
Oh, he is hammered.
I felt like we had momentum,
I felt we were the aggressor.
We break, we say okay,
and here we go, second half.
They walk on the court
to take the ball out.
One of their players says somethin'
to our point guard, Marcus,
and Marcus immediately responded
uh like he was on the streets.
And the referees came immediately
and beep, gave him a tech.
And that gave him his third foul,
which put us in a tough spot.
And I looked down
and I see Coach Ground and he kinda turns,
he looks, and right when I looked at him,
he turned away as if
"Whatever it takes."
I never thought I'd see somethin'
like that from a Hall of Fame coach,
but I never forget,
and I know it was intentionally done.
He just came with a level of gamesmanship
that I just wasn't prepared for.
So, uh, that was a lesson learned.
[commentator] Pandemonium now breaking out
for the Saddleback College Gauchos,
they are the state champions.
[John] It's a reward to be in the finals.
It hurts right now,
but they'll look back and realize,
that, "Hey, we
we accomplished something."
We've lost in the playoffs,
the last two years, off one possession.

we were expected to win state,
and to lose the very first playoff game
was heartbreaking, embarrassing, all that.
We struggled to realize that
we had to take everyone seriously.
We've been to the state championship game
and we were down to the wire,
with one minute left and lost by three.
We've been to the Elite Eight, uh,
two other times, other than that.

ELAC goes down, the Huskies,
a fantastic season,
but they fall short against
one of the top teams in the state.
East LA has to show up.
And that's the most important thing.
Are they gonna be mentally prepared?
And I don't know.
It's not many people that get here

many chances at a state title.
Sometimes people throw the word
"pressure" around, and
expectations and things like that, and
that's how upsets occur.
But he has been upset
by teams that weren't as good as them.
If Coach Mosley could
pick up a championship,
he'd be forever etched
in the books of East LA.
Without that state title,
he could fall into the cracks
of just another coach.

have a week of practice and preparation.
We played Saturday and we don't
play again until next Saturday.
And in March,
nobody wants to practice in March.
