- I miss my dad playing basketball with me.
I try to get him to come out, but he say he's too tired Or his knees hurt or something like that.
- Normally, he was always happy And making us laugh and everything.
I never saw my dad like So down and depressed and stuff.
- I can't seem to get it on track.
I would really much like Jillian to come.
- I've always tried to do it on my own, And on my own, it's not working.
SoI just--I need help.

- Oh, my God.
What are they doing? I'm down the road from the northern family, And what they don't know Is that I can see everything that's going on right now On that monitor.

- I'm watching you on TV right now.
I am pissed! Tell your son to put the food down right now.
- Food down.
We're in trouble.
- Get your whole family together.
You're gonna go meet my doctor for a full evaluation, And bring your workout clothes.
Because after I'm gonna kick your butts.
- So you had a lot of tests done.
- Yeah.
- So, Patrick, if we look at someone who has your build And your height, the ideal healthy weight is 192.

- Oh, no.
- With your build and your height, There's an ideal weight that's 139 pounds.
What is your real weight? 283 pounds! Your percentage of body fat Is over 53%.
You have got to realize That you two are in exactly the same boat.
Are you worried? What is your biggest worry? - That my mom and my dad might die And we might not have them while we're growing up.
- You know what? They're here.
And they're gonna stay here.
You heard what your daughter just said, right? - I heard it loud and clear.
- That's about the biggest request That a child can ask of a parent-- "please be here for me.
" - I mean, it didn't take me overnight to get here, so - That's right.
- I know it's not gonna take me overnight to get back.
- That's right.
- I'm about to go meet this family.
I think this is going to be a tough week for me.
After seeing what they ate, I think I'm gonna kill them.
- Waiting for Jillian to come to the park, I was anxious, nervous, Scared.
Hoping I didn't throw up.
- Wow! I didn't think one family Could get me this pissed off in one day.
What was that about? - What was what? - The 100,000 calories that you cooked for lunch.
- I was hungry.
- Do you eat like that all the time? - Yeah.
- Really? - Yeah.
- Do you think it's good for you? - No.
- So you know it's not.
Okay, great.
This week is gonna be A lot more about why you're eating stuff That's killing you And less about, "hey, did you know that's bad for you?" Because you already know, Which pisses me off that much more.
- I understand that.
- All right, then.
Good.
The beatings commence.
- I was kinda scared, Because she looked like she would just Pick you up and throw you across the field If you don't do what she tells you to do.
- Spread it out.
We're gonna start out With karaokes.
Up and back.
Follow this one.
That's right.
Up, up, up.
Good.
Up and back.
Up and back, up and back.
Patrick, were you ever an athlete? - Yes, I was.
- Looks like it.
You know what you are to me? You are good, fresh meat.
first impression of Jillian Bulldog.
- Go, go, go.
Three more.
Two more.
Seven.
There we go.
How hard are you gonna fight this week, huh? - come on, Kim! - Mama, quit quitting! - I only have a week to try to wake these guys up And get them back on track.
This first workout is hard Because I wanna test these guys.
And by the way, this is easy Compared to what the rest of the week has in store.
TenNine.
On your way.
I'm not gonna count until you guys do ten.
- Come on, daddy! - Daddy, you said you weren't gonna quit.
- Are you gonna wimp out? Are you gonna stop? - Go, daddy, come on! - Are you? - Come on, daddy! - Never had a person push me the way she did.
I didn't think it was gonna be this tough.
- Come on, daddy.
Don't stop! Go! - I can't get it.
- Talk to me.
You mad? - Yes.
- What are you mad about? - He's not doing it! - Get over here, man.
Get over here! Look her in the eye.
Get right over here.
No, you look her in the eye.
What do you need from dad? - I need him to do it because - I'm giving you all I got.
- No, you're not.
No, you're not, no, you're not, no, you're not.
You're not even giving a fraction.
- I just need a little bit-- - no, no! No, you don't need anything! Except to do What youAre capable of, And that is not even a fraction of what you are bringing today.
You're not! You're not! This was a complete disaster.
Patrick is setting a tone here, so when he goes down, The whole thing is a house of cards.
Here we go--it's just time to start digging into the issues.
If you walked into the biggest loser, I would salivate.
You are clearly young and strong.
And you are falling to pieces.
So what is it? - I don't know.
- Kim, what do you think about all this? - I want him To try harder.
- Why aren't you trying harder? - I guess I don't wanna do it by myself.
- Why? 'cause he's given up eight times already today.
Ameera, do you have everything you need? - No.
- Do you have everything you need, kid? - No.
- No! - He will in time.
- No! No time, no tomorrow.
There is no tomorrow.
- I know there's not no tomorrow.
- SoWhy not now? - That's why I'm here.
- Then why are you quitting right now? - I'm not quitting.
I never quit on them.
- Uh--you quit on them-- What do you mean, you never quit on them? You quit on them all day today! - They got everything they need.
- No, they don't.
Ameer, what do you need? - My daddy to be healthy.
- I need both my parents to be healthy So they can live a longer life So they can see me grow up.
- So you got a choice to make right now, don't ya? You both Need to put your health First.
They need one thing-- To not worry about you guys.
That's what I'm talking about.
Get real with it.
We're gonna turn this thing around.
I promise you that.
Coming up on losing it Here we go.
Dump it.
Up, up, up! - Can I get ten seconds? - Nope.
Not at all.
- Don't wanna be a failure.
- Do you think that achievement comes without risk? - I just wanna escape.
- Escape what? - I just feel like I do so much.
- All the way to the top! All the way to the top! Go! - Ah.
Home sweet home.
- Don't look in the kitchen.
- We're gonna throw that away.
- Yeah, we are! You don't make this much food, though, normally.
- It's not for one night.
- How many days would all of this last you? - It'd be 2 1/2 days.
- I want you to look at this and see this in your arteries, 'cause it is.
This stuff is like an invader slowly killing you.
Here we go.
Dump it.
Let's put the whole thing Moving on.
- Jillian.
- What is that? - Oil.
For the deep fryer.
- A 5-gallon jug? Patrick! What is this? - That's Patrick's.
- That's my stash.
- Oatmeal cream pies.
- Can I ask you why you even have a stash? - 'cause they eat all my stuff up.
I'm-a show you all my stashes, okay? - Patrick! What the hell? - I put 'em in the cabinet, they eat 'em all up.
- Well, you're not gonna have that problem anymore, are you? SoWhere's my room? - Ameer, take her to her room.
- Yeah, where's my room? Well, here I am again in another stranger's house.
These guys are loveable.
ButI'm sure by the end of the week, Patrick's gonna hate me.
It's obvious that this guy hasn't been pushed at all, And that's what needs to happen here, so I guess we'll see.
- I forgot to throw something away yesterday.
I love sugar.
So like That would be breakfast, lunch, and dinner On a Saturday.
I just wanna escape for the day.
- Escape what? - I don't know.
Responsibility.
I don't know, I just I just feel like I do so much all week To make sure everybody's getting done what they need.
- Okay.
It doesn't matter what they do.
You have the ability to say, "no, I'm not gonna do it, "and if it goes undone, You're just gonna have to live with it for a while.
" So this new behavior, albeit scary, Is worth the risk--yes? Kim is shouldering the weight of the entire family, And Kim and Patrick are not talking about their problems.
I need Patrick to wake up And see what he is doing to his family.
Now, go and get yourself changed.
- Okay.
- 'cause I gotta kick your ass This morning.
- Okay.
- Okay.
This is your bodybugg.
It goes on the upper part of your left arm.
What your bodybugg does is give you a close estimate Of how many calories you're burning, okay? And then at night, you plug in the food you're eating, And it will give you a close estimate Of how many calories you've consumed.
The bodybugg is going to be your bible.
- Okay.
Now, you have about an hour here.
This is our only workout today, so don't hold back.
Patrick failed epically yesterday in the workout, And I'm hoping that he had enough of a wakeup call To show me some progress today.
One leg.
Pop.
Drop.
Up.
What do you think about Patrick, huh? Does he push when you push him? - He quits.
- He quits.
Interesting.
Five.
Unacceptable, huh? - Mm-hmm.
- Two.
One more.
Pissed off about it? - Mm-hmm.
- Little bit, huh? Push, pop.
Pop.
Up, up, up! Seven, six.
Do not fall, Kim.
Do not fall! Three, two Perfect.
Okay, baby, come off of there.
Stopping you one, two, three.
Get ready.
This is a critical moment for Patrick Because he needs to show his family He wants things to turn around.
Go! shhoo.
Inhale.
Shhoo.
Throw.
Seven.
Way up.
Go.
Eight.
Big push.
Nine.
Go, Patrick, go, Patrick, go, Patrick, go, Patrick.
Over here.
- Can I get ten seconds? - Nope.
Not at all.
- Come on, baby.
Give it all ya got! - Now we're right at that finish line.
You have ten minutes to rewrite history.
How is it going to end? The choice is yours.
Oh, here we go.
Here we go.
what are you gonna do? Are you gonna quit? - No.
- You gonna quit if he quits? Are you? You sure? - No.
- Ah! - Why not? - I want this.
- For who? - For myself.
- For who? - For me.
- For who? - I'm gonna care about myself! - Ah! - No, no, no, back up, Back up, back up.
Up, up! Right on time.
Right on time.
- Come on, baby.
- Is that what you've chosen? - No.
My leg just gave out.
- No.
You tell your body what you need it to do, And it will do it.
You have the capability.
You have the potential.
You just don't see it.
Have you ever given yourself a chance at anything? - Not really.
- Why not? - 'cause I'm afraid to fail.
Don't wanna be a failure.
- Do you think that achievement comes without risk? As far as I'm concerned, the only way to really fail Is to give up, and you do that a lot.
Patrick, what do you want in your life? - I just wanna get my health back.
- Okay, well, you let your health go.
You quit on your health, did you not? - Yeah.
- You have to want it, Patrick.
And you don't, and I'm not sure why.
You stop before 13.
35, I'm gonna call this whole dayA failure.
See if you quit at this.
20 seconds left.
- Come on, baby! Give it all ya got.
- Ten seconds left.
- Come on, go.
- Five seconds left.
- Ah! - And threeTwo One.
Stop.
Move off.
Where is he? Patrick has shown me that he's physically capable.
No surprise.
So what needs to happen now Is this guy has to have a turnaround, Because he sets the tone for the entire family.
If Patrick doesn't come around, We're gonna have some real problems here.
Whoo! Coming up on losing it - I don't wanna step no more.
- Why not? - I don't have the desire to.
- You scared? - I ain't scared at all.
- It's been eight weeks, And I'm back to visit the northern family.
Bring 'em out! Really? - Hi, auntie Tasha.
I like your dress.
- Ow! - My sister Latasha Is comin' over today.
Over the years I've' been up and down, Bigger and smaller.
It has never mattered to her.
Whatever it takes, she'll be there for me.
- So what was your relationship like growing up? - She tore up all my dolls.
- She was jealous of me 'cause I was the baby.
Mind you, I'm six years younger than her.
- She already looks older than me.
- When you're plump, it makes you look young.
No wrinkles.
Jillian, she tell you about her 40th birthday? - Kim, you just turned 40? What did you do for your birthday? - I had called Patrick like a couple weeks before And was like, what we gonna do for her birthday? We need to have a party.
And I was like, don't tell her.
So Patrick, who can't keep his mouth shut, Had to tell her anyway, And he was like, yeah, Kim said We don't need to do nothin' for her birthday.
She want to wait till she lose some weight.
She'll do it next year.
- I was embarrassed and ashamed That I hadn't got up off my butt and worked out.
I had told everybody That I was gettin' ready to start my exercise, That I was gonna be sexy at 40.
I didn't do it.
I made 'em call it off.
- I should have dome something for your 40th birthday.
- Where's my buddy? What are you doing? - I'm working on the, uh Music for my high school Greek club I used to be in.
You know you got college fraternities - Okay.
- Here in Nashville, We have high school fraternities.
So I'm putting together the music from the step show.
- That's cool.
- Yeah.
That's what I'm working on right now.
- Can I hear it? - Did he tell you he's doing this for the Greek show, But he could have been a part of it, Actually going in and doing the stepping and the dancing.
But he didn't want to do it.
- Why? - I done grew outta that.
I mean, I-- - Do you not feel good at it anymore, Do you not feel like you're in shape enough to do it well? - Well - I think he's scared He's gonna mess up or not look right.
- Maybe one day I show you.
- When? - I don't know.
- How 'bout we go tonight? - You wanna go tonight? That's fine if you wanna go.
Starts at 6:00.
- You don't have to dance if you don't want to, But I'm now curious.
And we are in Tennessee, so Can we go tonight? - Yeah, we can go.
Get changed.
- Thank you for being here! - I need a little pull for the gammas tonight.
- All right.
Kim remembers a time when Patrick used to step dance, And this guy's making music for a competition That he's not participating in.
And this seems very typical of his behavior, You know, living on the sideline.
I wanna see what this is about, And I wanna see what it's gonna take To get him to engage again.
- Whoo! - Whoo! Guys, have you ever seen dad do this? - No.
- Well, you want to? - Yeah.
- Wow! - I don't wanna step no more.
- Why not? - I don't have the desire to.
- Do you think if you lost the weight You'll have the desire to do it again? - No.
- Yep.
- I promise you I wouldn't even if I did.
You know, once I do lose the weight, I just don't wanna do it anymore.
- You probably do a lot of things for family That you wouldn't normally wanna do, right? - Yeah, yeah.
- All right.
The wife wants to see you do it.
The kids want to see you move.
All three of them really, really wanna see you dance OnceAt some point So they can see this part of who you were.
- I'm retired.
- I want to see you do it.
You are so fearful - I'm not fearful! - That you don't wanna do this.
- I just don't wanna do it.
- Is that why you don't wanna get out here no more? Are you scared? - Naw, I ain't scared.
I ain't scared at all.
Not steppin' anymore.
- Patrick has a way of thinking That if I don't do anything at all, I won't fail.
And so a Lotta times, he doesn't try.
It feels like he's numb to everything.
He have no feelings about anything Like nothing mattered to him anymore.
It's justI want the guy back That I fell madly in love with.
I want my husband back.
I don't know.
- Every single time this guy's pushed Or he's confronted with feelings or things That make him feel less than, He just--[snaps.]
He--game over.
Shuts down.
So tomorrow, I'm gonna hit this guy With everything I've got.
I'm gonna unravel Kim in front of him And see if that doesn't wake his ass up.
All righty, hop on.
Pick your poison.
Incline three.
Speed three.
Get warmed up.
- I'm having a problem breathing.
I don't know why.
- You're looking worse for wear today.
- I know.
- I can tell right away Kim is not okay.
And everything she's been holding back Is about to break.
How you feelin'? - I'm hurting.
- Where? - My heart! - Will you please talk to Patrick? Tell him where you're hurting, please.
Look at Patrick, please, And tell him where you're hurting.
tell him.
- I don't wanna have to be the one To be responsible all the time and worry about everything happening.
I'm tired.
I just wanna know that y'all got it So I don't have to worry so much.
I'm tired.
I need to be able to lean on somebody sometimes, And I don't wanna ask.
I should y'all should know what I need.
- Maybe I I lean on you too much.
About me losing the job, I just I mean, it crushed me.
'cause you know I always Always worked.
But I feel like I failed.
- But I don't think you failed, And I tell you all the time.
I tell you that don't matter.
We can do anything and figure out how to get by.
- I feel like I let you guys down.
- I want y'all to talk to me And tell me how you feeling, But you pretend nothing's ever wrong.
- You've said this to me before, and I guess I just didn't listen to you.
And I hear what you saying I'm--I'm listening now.
I heard you then, but now I'm listening.
- Coming up on losing it Whether you continue to do this or not Is gonna be up to you.
This is about you.
Come on, come on, come on! And now it's time To see what these guys look like.
- It's new for me to get up and, you know, Get motivated and finally knock out some of the stuff Kim's been asking me to do.
Normally It wouldn't have got done.
There's no use procrastinating anymore, so why wait? Might as well go knock it out.
I mean, it feels real good.
Kim's gonna be happy.
It's gonna make me feel good to see her smiling.
- Now, I wanna be real clear with you about something.
ThisIsn't for her.
Whether you continue to do this or not Is gonna be up to you.
This is about you.
Eight.
Nice! Patrick is finally able to See how his apathy has been Penalizing his family.
This is a big step for him.
Come on, come on, come on! Whip it.
Whip! Good.
Perfect.
I've broken him down, And now I need to build him back up To remind Patrick what success feels like So he'll come into his own and lead his family Down a healthier, happier path.
Pop it.
One.
All you.
Shoot it.
One more.
Go.
Up and lock.
We got a little twist in the game here.
- Uh-oh.
- You are gonna train Kim.
- Me? - Yeah.
- Guess what.
I'm gonna break the news to you.
- What? - I get to train you.
- I've done a hour already.
- Let's go.
- Come on and kick my ass.
- Ready? Just whenever you ready.
One.
Come on.
Two.
There ya go.

- Uh-huh.
He didn't bitch once during his workout.
Now I want him to train Kim.

" I can push you through And he can help her with this.
He's gonna get her to the finish line this time.

Hold, hold, hold, hold.
- Oh, yeah, get it! - Come on, push.
Push, push! - Yeah! - Good job.

Stand up tall.
Stand up tall.
Stand up tall.
- He's just getting excited again.
He's letting go of whatever it is That's been holding him back.
It's good to see him take charge and get me goin', Get me up to speed.
I feel like I'm gettin' my husband back.
- She did great.
- We have more to do! Uh! Come on.
Let's go.
- Whoo.
Put the pedal to the metal there, slim.
Jillian and I wanted activities We've done as a family before.
I brought up skating.
I love to skate.
Patrick was like, uh-oh.
We used to go all the time.
He would say, I can't do this and sit down And watch us skate the whole time.
- Here we are at the roller-skating rink.
Yeah.
- I can't-- I can't skate at all.
- Oh, well, uh, neither can I, So this should be very fun for us, huh? - Get up.
We're gonna go.
If I'm gonna go, you're gonna go.
Patrick's lack of self-esteem Has given way to this fear of failure.
His family needs him.
They just wanted a good day, So it's time for this guy to get off of the sidelines And spend time with his family, Whether he is perfect or whether he's flawed.
It's just like walking.
Head up.
Just step one foot, step another.
This is easy.
Ooh! We can actually have family time Doing something that's actually fun.
- We're out doing something together again, And Patrick's participating.
We're having a ball.
Hold your head up.
You're doin' it.
- I didn't realize, To be out there skating with my family Made them so happy.
I even had a good time falling.
It was worth The laughter.
- I don't believe you did it.
- I'm gonna get it.
- You're doing good! - This was the first time we had fun I don't remember.
We just had a great time.
- Gimme five.
- We're at your state capital, And this is gonna be your final workout Until I see you again.
I wanna see what you're made of today.
Up the stairs, pop, pop, pop, like this-- Quick-- pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.
Come on, go! - Go, son! - Go, go, go, go past me! - You better not let me catch you! - All the way to the top now! - Go, go, go, go, go, go, go! Good.
Hold on.
All the way up.
This is all metaphorical.
It's about getting to the top, Reaching your goal, taking it one step at a time, And getting your ass moving in the process But still being successful.
And I'm just hoping that they take it all in here.
Here we are.
This is my last week.
My last day, actually.
And I wanna hear-- What am I gonna see when I come back? Kim.
- I wanna have dropped at least 20 pounds Before you come back.
- OhNo.
Try again.
- I want to have dropped 30 pounds.
- I actually think you can lose 40.
- I'm-a strive for that 40.
- All right.
- Another goal for me is I'm gonna be sexy, And I'm gonna have my 40-plus-1 party.
That's that.
- Patrick.
- My weight goal is to lose 60 pounds.
- That's ambitious.
I don't know We'll see.
I come back-- I come back in two months.
Set my little watch.
- Set it.
Another goal for me-- to open up more to my wife.
I'm gonna open up more to you.
Okay? - Okay.
- I'm gonna do that.
- Okay.
- I'm gonna take more of the pressure off of you, And we're gonna share the pressure.
'cause if you see the vision, you can do it.
- Yes! Perfect.
Well, I think these are very good goals.
I feel ambitious about it.
Get over here.
On your computer? - Yep.
