" - Later his interest shifted to erica.

- At the couples choice ceremony-- - Kym and adam, because you came first, You'll actually have a guaranteed switch.
- Kym dumped adam for steele.
- Now I'm ecstatic.
- And adam stole heather away from miles--cheeky devil.
- Miles, how do you feel about that? - Let the best man win, huh? - And instead of picking vanessa As he promised, peter surprised everyone by choosing - Erica.
- Unfortunately for peter, Erica did not like surprises.
- I don't think I can say yes.
- So as the last unmatched singles, Peter and vanessa went home.

I know he has some form of a connection with heather, But I don't care.
I'd like to stay with him and see where it goes.

I had a really good time with her.
But I was with erica on the first adventure, So we'll see where things go there.

It's like a bond that might not Be going anywhere any time soon.

Today we've brought you to the base of the most Active volcanoes in the world, the arenal.
As you know we put you on these adventures To test your compatibility, And on today's you're going to have to Rely on each other more than ever.
On my mark, You'll be taking off as quickly as possible Down this path behind me, Where you'll find a map and a canoe For each couple.
You'll then have to take your canoes And set off to the appropriately named Snake island.
[hissing.]
The locals said in no uncertain terms, Do not set foot on that island.
So I'm not going to.
But you guys are.
[chuckling.]
Once you've followed your map All the way to snake island, You'll have to dock your boat Where you'll find a totem, And then follow the rest of the instructions On the map, navigating through the jungles To the old plane wreck, Grabbing one crate per couple, Getting back in your canoes, And back to me here at the finish line.
As always our first place couple Will be off for a night of luxury At the oasis, And you will be safe from being sent home At tomorrow's couples choice ceremony.
And remember, the higher you place, The greater advantage you'll have If you want to switch partners.
Okay, you ready to do this? All: Yeah! - 3, 2, 1 Vamanos! - We have to run down to the canoes.
They're in order, so obviously you wanna Get to the first one Because you're closer to the shore.
- Push, kym! - Okay, we're good.
- You got it? - Yeah, you can go.
- Steele and I had a great start.
He was amazing.
We looked like a rowing team.
- Hold on, stay on that side, I'll work this.
- Wanna get in? I'll push in.
- Jason is definitely a nice person, I just don't know if the attraction is there.
- Let's do this.
- Whoo! - [bleep.]

- Yeah.
- All right, here we go! - Hey, look at the map.
- I don't see the map.
- I'm very competitive, And she has the stereotypical girl attitude.
So it's one of those things where I kinda have to, like, Drag her along with me.

- All right, you got it? I genuinely did choose miles Because I do want to get to know him better.
Not just through the adventure, But spend some time, getting past the small talk.
- Oh, my god.
Oh! When we first started out we were neck and neck With kym and steele.
Derek kept saying "we're getting first, We're going to the oasis tonight.
" So I felt really good about derek And our partnership at that--at that moment.
[grunting.]
- Oh, my god! - You okay? - Typically the person in the back is the one steering And directing, And also you need to be in synch when you row.
I don't really think he caught on to that.
It was so frustrating.
Give up, man.
I can only hope that miles finishes on top, So that we can get back together and finish what we started.
- You steer us in, I'll just paddle faster.
Is it better to go Straight down closer to the boat? - Straight through.
- Okay.
- Like you're digging.
I've been in canoes quite a lot, Because, you know, there are 12,000 lakes in minnesota, And erica's paddling was sub par.
She wasn't really the best paddler.
- So I was a little worried.
- That's a long way over there.
- No, it's gonna be fine.
Yeah, this is the right way.
- Oh, my god, I'm so frustrated.
Why are we turning this way? - I'm going with my gut here, samantha, But you gotta trust me.
- Mike had a hunch that we should go To the right around the island.
And everyone else was going to the left around the island.
Mike, what do we do if my instinct says one thing And yours says the other? - Samantha looked at the map, found out that I was wrong And we had to turn back.
- That strategically puts us in last place.
We're supposed to be a team.
He didn't listen to me about which way to go, So I was frustrated.
- What's up? - I'm pissed off is what's up.
- Derek, how are you feeling? - First one's here.
- First one's in, baby.
- We got to the totem, We're right next to kym and steele.
I jumped out, tied up and, um, we just hauled ass.
[snake rattling.]
The snakes do freak me out.
I'm picturing gigantic snakes hanging from the trees.
I'm picturing us having to jump over the snakes.
It's, like, wow, this is actually A very intense experience.
- You want me to go first, In case we do see snakes? - Go for it.
You're just gonna try and outrun me So that it eats me.
- [laughs.]
- You good? - Theresa's not the most athletic girl here.
She's more like a princess.
Which is fine, I'm more attracted to a girl That cares about her appearance than is, like, a tomboy.
- Okay, take a compass and follow a 90 degree easterly Bearing to an old plane wreck.
Retrieve one crate per couple, And re-track your route.
- I think it's this way.
Jess and I, we're doing really well together.
Sometimes the other person Has a better sense of direction on what's going on.
I think that's what team's all about.
Plane wreck.
- Yes! [snakes rattling.]
Whoo! - Just take one of these and go.
- Let's get a little crate.
- [bleep.]

- There's snakes all over these things.

- Coming up - This is the hardest adventure yet.
- Skip's, like, move it or lose it.

It just doesn't feel the same with samantha.
She really wasn't there when I needed her.

We're both, like, pissed off.
- [screams.]
Oh! Whoa! Steele was practically drowning.

! - [gasps.]
- there's snakes all over this.
As jess and I come up To the plane wreck there's crates.
I reach down and the snake was blending in with the crate So I kind of jump back a little bit.
- [gasps.]
- just get back, hold on.
- Just--no, hit it.
Just, like, tip it.
No, lightly tip it.
- What's going on? - There's snakes all over this thing.
- Let's just get--ready? - How about a good stick? - That's the best way to get him.
- All right, bye-bye, snake.
- Oh, my god.

Hold on, hold on, careful.
- I got it.
- Are you serious? - I seriously do.
- So as we're heading out Toward the canoe, We're still in first, we have our box.
We estimated it was, like, 50 to 75 pounds.
It's a very large, awkward object to be carrying Through the jungle as fast as you possibly can.
- Thanks, yeah.
- [giggles.]
- You sure? - Yeah.
- You all right? Do you need me to get behind you And hold it a little bit or are you good? - Kym and I worked together really well, actually.
We were in second place, And I think she's a hot little thing for sure.
She's just got a lot of spunk to her.

- Back to the canoe.
- Theresa--all this make-up and her hair's done perfect But she's trudging through the rainforest And she's really mentally tough.

- The walk back through the jungle with the crate Was really awkward.
Samantha and I weren't talking that much.
It wasn't an upbeat, lighter kind of situation.
So at this point it just Doesn't feel the same with samantha.
- We're both, like, pissed off.
Like, we actually just have not even been getting along at all.
You know, he just needs to listen to me once in a while.
It was really frustrating.
- You sure you don't need help? - No, I've got it, it's fine.
- Okay.
- What the [bleep.]

- What is going on? [snake rattling.]
- I'm trying to lift it up.
Ow! [bleep.]

! Ow, watch out.
This was the hardest adventure yet.
My legs were getting caught in, like, thorn bushes, Like, I could feel my-- like, the skin Just being ripped off my legs.
He's carrying this thing on his back.
He's dyin', I'm feeling bad.
I keep turning around, I wanna help him.
There's nothing I can do, I just feel helpless.
This - Oh! - We're doing really good.
- The trails are so small That everybody's intense at this point.
Skip's, like, move it or lose it, you know? Like, let us pass you.
He's a bad ass.

- I'm gonna pass you.
- Aah! - Dude, we're right here.
It's, like, two inches, doesn't make a difference.

Skip passed us, and I was, like, Dude, if you really wanna pass me, have at it, you know? I'm not gonna fight you about it But, you know, chill a little bit.
- Four couples got back to the canoes at the same time.
And I thought all of us had a chance to go ahead And win this thing.
- Get in--jump in, put it on the edge.
Push it, push it! - Aah! - Push it! When I was trying to get in to the canoe, I just absolutely blew it.
Unfortunately I did not read the manual On how to get into a canoe.
- Got it? - Yeah, you ready? I got a ton of water in the thing, And then we capsized that bad boy.
Okay.
It was not easy and it was just frustrating.
- All right, put this on.
Go, I'll paddle.
- Row to your left, right, now backwards.
Row to your left, backwards.
- Ready? - Three--other side.
- Okay.
- After I get into the canoe, I look back and steele is just Lost in the sauce.
I mean, I felt bad, I felt bad.
- [bleep.]
it's full of water.
- Gotta get towards the shore.
[screams.]
UnhNo! [bleep.]
no! I just wanted to cry.
I was, like, "I just want to go home.
" I was ready to give up.
- Ah [bleep.]
! - No! [bleep.]

! - No! - Steele decided to enter the canoe from the side.
Which then welcomed the watery, Like, you know, mess that we got into, And he was practically drowning.
There is so much water in here We have to pull it out.
- We finally get the crate back to the shore To do the return canoe ride and I see steele and kym there.
- Rraah! - Complete yard sale.
Their canoe capsized, Life jacket floating out into the middle of the lake, They were not looking good.
[indistinct conversation.]
- I'm about as effective as, like, a blind surgeon.
I kind of have my way of, uh, making these adventures A lot harder than they really are.
[bleep.]
, oh, boy.
- Their boat is sinking, they're not gonna make it.
- They're out, they're out.
- I see steele and kym trying to get water Out of their canoe.
So now I'm, like, all right, let's beat these guys.
All right, go, go.
- Yeah.
- I keep screwing myself in challenges.
I mean, we totally botched getting in the canoe.
And now we're in last place.
Are you in? - Yeah.
- There was a time where we could have easily given up, But kym didn't by any means.
I was surprised, I mean, she ain't a diva at all.
- I'm so exhausted right now.
Derek, you were amazing back there, seriously.
I saw a side of him that I haven't seen In very many people.
Something totally came over him And he just kept going and going.
- We can't quit at all.

Canoeing is not my strong point.
Feel like we're not going anywhere.
My bony butt is not doing that great on this thing.
And this arm's about to die.
- Let's just stay positive, okay? The toughest part about heading back Was the fact that samantha was really having a hard time.
We're not gonna lose this, samantha.
She was pretty negative.
I tried to stay positive and upbeat, But it's tough.
- This is a [bleep.]
long canoe ride, huh? - [laughs.]

The reading directions? Miles did.
The lifting the crate? Miles did.
I honestly just felt like dead weight.

What made us work well is we complimented each other, I think, throughout the entire thing.

So we just got in a nasty little rhythm And we made up so much ground.

- We were right in front of ben and brandee.

Steele and I are neck and neck, I just knew that I wanted to beat him.
So I was really pumped about this.

We basically caught them and passed them.

I'd definitely like to get the chance To do another adventure with steele.

- I've never really had a serious, serious relationship.
The most serious relationship I had Lasted about three or four months.
There's a part of me that wants to maybe go Explore some other options.
I like kym, I think kym is cool.
But romantically, I don't know What's gonna happen there, we'll see.

I am attracted to theresa's personality As much as her looks.

Because that's the natural way of getting to know someone.
This game is playing out, like, Exactly the way I would want it to.

Sam and I, we had a little bit Of a rocky start to our adventure.
And I wanted to get it behind us, And I wanted to get it off my chest.
- I was frustrated and annoyed.
Defeated--I thought we were way behind.
- Even though we placed well, we finished strong, I think the weight of our rough start To the competition Was really weighing on both of us.
So we might have been, like, kind of an old married couple.
Just, you know, ready to wring each other's necks.
Samantha, it's pretty simple.
The only thing I need to hear out of you is this.
"I was having a hard time today.
"I'll work better, we'll work together as a team Much better next time.
" Okay? - Have I not said that already? - No.

It was questionable about whether we were gonna be able To talk this whole thing through or not.

And the food's really good.

- I have no idea, but I want to keep eating it.
- I feel like we're all in, like, very happy matches.
- What about samantha? She's good to go? - She hasn't, like, opened up to me about mike that much.
But they had a really good time And it's been working out really well.

Jess is right up my alley.
Great body, you know, really pretty face.
She's got a lot of things I like in a woman.
I mean, jess is a phenomenal girl, But there are other girls floating around the cabin area.
I think it's a disservice to not explore Other options when you can.
And given the opportunity at some point, If I had to pick somebody else, Absolutely I would pick samantha.

The oasis is so incredible.

We have a beautiful pool all to ourself, And it felt so special.

As far as a relationship with jess, I still think it's nothing serious.
You know, we're having fun, You know, seeing where this thing goes.
That was great.
- Derek and I were in this ridiculously romantic Environment and there were a few playful kisses.
- I could see a girl and if she likes me then There's a strong possibility I could wind up with them for a long time So, I mean, there's potential for, uh, marriage.
- Yeah, so intense.
- You know what I mean? We're talking lifetime commitment.
- Yeah.
- I mean it's just-- - it's a shift.
- It's just, like-- it's a real thing, You know, it's hard to grasp.
And, you know, sometimes I just-- I don't want anything to do with it, So I freak out a little bit.
- I think that trying to figure out derek Is going to be a really big challenge.
I wanna know what's actually going through his head.
- I think it freaks anybody out, girl or guy, If someone gets attached quickly.
And if it keeps going the direction I think it's going, Then that may push me away.

- Jason? Are you alive? I'm in our cabin, Jason was literally on this little couch-looking thing Under all of the blankets, huddled--I thought he was dead.
Are you all right? What's the matter with you? That was just weird.
- Do you realize I'm obviously interested in you? And I think you're an awesome girl, I think you're a sweetheart.
You have all these amazing things That I can't put words to yet, I'm just trying-- - Well, thank you, I appreciate all that.
Basically jason has poured his heart out to me.
About how I'm an amazing girl, And he's never met anybody like me before, Yada yada yada.
He comes on a little too strong.
Jason made it very awkward for me And I am not an awkward person, So if you can manage to make me feel awkward, You've done something absurd.

Once you've followed your map All the way to snake island, You'll have to dock your boat Where you'll find a totem, And then follow the rest of the instructions On the map, navigating through the jungles To the old plane wreck, Grabbing one crate per couple, Getting back in your canoes, And back to me here at the finish line.
