Lucifer (2016) s03e18 Episode Script

The Last Heartbreak

1 - Previosly on Lucifer - Mama's gone? Yes.
I mean, she says good-bye forever.
She loves you very much.
I'm missing time.
It's like someone else was living my life.
The one man I've cared about I still gave him up.
That's how much I care about our friendship.
Go to Hell.
In the surveillance van, when I asked you to stay in L.
A.
, we did have a moment there.
Which is why I had to tell you that I'm not relationship material.
You're terrified of letting someone get close to you 'cause you know they'll eventually leave you.
- You'll outlive them.
- You got to have faith, because life can surprise you.
Now, if my brother, the Devil, can have that Maybe I can, too.
[UPBEAT JAZZ PIANO PLAYING.]
[WOMEN LAUGHING.]
So, what brings you here? Work.
What you working on? A case.
Well, you want to take a break and buy me a drink? Not really, no.
[SCOFFS.]
Got to admit.
Watching these women trying to get your attention Best part of my night.
I don't know what I'm gonna do when you finally say yes to one of them.
Never gonna say yes.
Oh, yeah? 'Cause somebody already stole your heart? [SIGHS.]
It's just not in the cards for me.
We got to go, Detective.
Um duty calls.
All right.
["LOVE IS STRANGE" BY MICKEY & SILVIA BEGINS.]
Love Two more bodies were just found in Griffith Park holding hands.
Looks like the Broken Hearts Killer strikes again.
Stop calling him that.
Why? What's the problem? Because you never know when something stupid like that's gonna stick.
Come on.
That'll never stick.
[CHUCKLES.]
[CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS.]
[FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING, CHLOE SIGHS.]
Wow.
Last night was so - That was quite the concert.
- Yes! I can't remember the last time I went to a show that was so, uh - Loud.
- So loud! I still can't hear anything.
ELLA: They totally boned.
[SCOFFS.]
Miss Lopez, please don't be vulgar.
The detective doesn't bone.
Seriously, do you not see the epic fireworks? There's more chemistry over there than in my lab.
And they just went to the Axara concert.
It's a natural aphrodisiac.
Well, if you're a pimply millennial, perhaps, but the detective is a grown woman with sophisticated tastes.
Trust me, she's not so easily won over.
Oh, my God.
You are totally freaking out right now.
What? About this coming between you and Chloe.
Don't be preposterous.
I'm not freaking out about anything.
It's okay.
Okay, I-I get it.
You're afraid that they're gonna start spending all their time together.
You know, joining each other at crime scenes, bantering over dead bodies.
And where does that leave you, right? I assure you, Miss Lopez, that is the least of my worries.
The chemistry in there is just a a flash in the pan.
- Exactly.
- Mm.
A completely hot flash in the pan.
Lucifer, what you and Chloe have is on a total other level.
Exactly.
Nothing is changing.
Nope.
Nope.
CHLOE: Anyhow, I just I wanted to say thank you for coming.
I just I had a really great time.
So when can we do it again? Um uh a con a concert, or? I was thinking something quieter.
Maybe dinner? I know a pretty good Italian place if you're into that.
Uh, I mean, I love Italian, but, uh, weren't you saying that you didn't want to? Hey, Chloe, I just wanted to, uh I'm sorry.
I didn't mean to interrupt.
- My bad.
- CHLOE: No, no.
You're good.
We were just, um [CHUCKLES.]
Just What's up? Well, uh, we have a case Double murder.
Some couple found in a convertible at a lookout off Griffith Park.
Super creepy scene, by the sounds of it.
Mm-hmm.
Okay, I'll be right there.
Espinoza, could I get a copy of that file? Sure thing.
Love's gone away.
What would I like? Well sometimes the answer to that is not so simple, is it? I mean, I would like to know what my father's next test is.
I feel pretty confident that I passed the last one, but what's next? And what am I supposed to do in between? Or is that, in itself, a test? Okay.
How about a large mocha with extra whip? Sure.
Sure.
- Okay.
- Okay.
Large Americano for Charlotte.
Mom? Mom?! I can't believe it's you.
Uh, Lucifer said that you were gone, that-that he used the Flaming Sword and sent you into another universe.
What are you doing back here? I'm sorry.
Do I know you? Uh no.
No, you don't.
I, um I'm sorry.
I thought you were someone else.
No, wait.
You know Lucifer, so you do know me.
What did you mean, a "Flaming Sword"? I'm really sorry, but I have to go.
LUCIFER: For the record, Detective, I'd like you to note that I haven't once asked you about your evening with Pierce.
I realize it's none of my business.
You're right.
It's not.
But Miss Lopez thinks you boned.
- What? - [CLEARS THROAT.]
Her words, not mine.
I, uh, simply thought you should know.
We just went to a concert, you know? It's not a big deal.
Right.
That's what Dr.
Linda said, too.
Well, for having this not be your business, you're certainly talking to a lot of people about it.
I know.
I just wish people would stop prying.
But regardless, I've come to the conclusion that no matter what happens with you and Pierce, you and I are partners, Detective, and nothing can come between that.
Prepare yourselves, people.
This is a different kind of case.
CHLOE: Lieutenant, what brings you here? I had a gut feeling about this case.
I wanted to see if I was right.
As much as we appreciate your digestive feelings, Lieutenant, the detective and I have this utterly under control, - so, if you don't mind - I don't mind at all.
[GARBLED RADIO TRANSMISSION.]
Ella, what do we have? Meet Robbie Matthews and Rachel White.
Looks like they were drugged unconscious, and then someone literally smashed their chests in.
Do we know how they were drugged? Uh, best guess, maybe the killer used some form of anesthetic.
Liquid or aerosol.
And then crushed their ribs, their sternum.
LUCIFER: And finally, their hearts.
Well, it's not hard to figure out what the desire was here.
Well, the killer was clearly trying to send a message.
That he couldn't stand this couple's relationship.
So, what? We think maybe she had a jealous stalker? Or an angry ex.
We need to talk to anyone who had a problem with this relationship.
See, we've got this, Lieutenant.
No need to mess with success.
Which one of them was married? Well, no weddings rings, so, neither of them, obviously.
But good on you for participating.
Has anyone checked their chest cavities yet? What? Why would we do that? In the 50s, there was a guy named Clark Hoffman.
He was known for making his victims swallow their wedding rings.
Right, the Broken Hearts Killer.
PIERCE: By the time they caught him, he'd killed seven cheating couples in L.
A.
His crime scenes were about as gruesome as this.
Wow, you really know a lot about this.
The cop who solved the case was an old mentor of mine.
And didn't Hoffman die a few days ago in prison? Making him a particularly useless addition to this conversation.
Unless his death inspired a copycat.
Or maybe they're using this as an MO to throw us off.
Thank you.
- I hope that's all it is.
- ELLA: All righty, guess we'll get out the old chest spreader and go fishing for some wedding rings.
Or, according to their social media profile, Rachel was single, and Robbie was married.
We need to talk to the spouse ASAP.
[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER.]
Yep.
[SIGHS.]
Don't worry.
Nothing's changing.
- Nothing at all.
- Hmm.
Okay, Monkey, you grab the backpack, I'll grab the brownies, and we'll get you to school.
Maze, are you home? - [SNORING SOFTLY.]
- Hey BEATRICE: Daddy - there's a man in my bed.
- What? And he smells bad.
[YAWNING, MOANING.]
I see you found the band.
Go wait in the car.
Seriously, what were you thinking letting a drunken rocker sleep in Trixie's bed? I was thinking he was too drunk to make it up the stairs to Chloe's bed.
What's the big deal? The big deal, Maze, is that you live with a nine-year-old.
It's not okay.
Ooh did I make Dan mad? Why are you Are you going through something lately? Other than the band, no.
Fine.
Whatever.
Clean up.
I don't want to have to tell Chloe about this.
She has enough on her plate right now.
You know, there are some things I could tell Chloe, too.
[SIGHS.]
Like what? Like remember when we had a guy killed? Yeah.
That was fun.
Seems we both have things we'd rather Chloe not know.
Look, I don't know what's going on with you right now, but whatever it is figure it out.
Emma Mathews just got brought in.
And Emma Matthews is The victim's wife.
Right.
Yes, of course.
Well, mustn't keep the murderous lady waiting.
Mind if I join? You sure? You don't have to.
I know.
I want to.
Great.
The more the merrier.
Uh I know what you're doing.
I'm getting ready to question a suspect.
And I hate to break it to you, Cain, but there's only room for one immortal in the detective's life, - and that position's already been filled.
- By you.
The detective and I are a team A package deal, if you will.
Sadly, there's just no room for a third.
And I don't understand why you're trying to spend time with her anyway.
What happened to the whole wanting to die thing? I had a change of heart.
I'm sorry if I upset you.
I didn't think you two were a thing.
We're not a thing.
We're partners.
Well, if that's all it is, then you've got nothing to worry about, do you? [STAMMERS.]
: Wait Right.
Yeah.
[GRUNTS.]
Fine, fine.
I prefer standing anyway.
CHLOE: Emma, four months ago, your husband reported that you slashed his tires.
Then two months ago, neighbors saw you throwing rocks through his window.
And then just last month, you were seen threatening him with a bat.
Can you explain that? Look, I'm not proud of what happened.
But I was upset.
I just found out Robbie was cheating on me.
Well, completely understandable.
I mean, what else are you supposed to do when some parasite inserts himself into your relationship? So is that why you did this? What? [INHALES SHARPLY.]
Is this for real? I admit I hated Rachel, but I would never hurt Robbie.
I-I may have gone a little nuts when I learned he was cheating, but after the courts forced me into therapy, we started talking.
We chose to divorce amicably.
Oh, God.
I can't believe he's dead.
This is preposterous.
Do you really expect us to believe that you were okay with someone tearing you two apart? - It's the truth.
- Does the name Clark Hoffman mean anything to you? Who? [SHUDDERING BREATH.]
I know we're gonna check out her alibi, but my gut tells me to believe her.
Oh, please.
Just 'cause she spouted some drivel about conscious uncoupling? Because she has no idea who the Broken Hearts Killer is and she has no motive to go after Robbie.
Well, she's obviously lying, about her relationships and the murders.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees that.
- Detective? - I think we can't take - Emma's word at face value.
- Mm-hmm.
DAN: We don't have to.
Another couple was just found dead holding hands.
This time at a cheap motel.
The Safari Inn.
[SIGHS.]
This isn't just a lovers' quarrel.
No, you're right.
The copycat's just getting started.
Lieutenant, we need you on this case.
[STAMMERS, SIGHS.]
And I normally love threesomes.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
Meet Mary Lee and Dennis Horn.
Just like our first lovers, they were drugged unconscious before the killer took something really big and really hard and literally - Bludgeoned their hearts.
- Mm-hmm.
And then moved them here and staged this whole scene.
And just like the other victims, one of them's married.
She's got a tan line on her ring finger.
ELLA: We actually ended up finding a wedding ring inside the first victim, so good bet we'll probably find one here, too.
Any other evidence? ELLA: More like lack thereof.
Place was wiped clean, just like the first crime scene.
I mean, this killer, you guys, whoever he Or she is, total pro.
Well, Emma's alibi checks out.
There's no obvious connection between the couples.
I just wonder how the killer's picking his targets.
Well, Lieutenant, as our resident Broken Hearts expert, wouldn't you say it's time to enlighten us with your wisdom? No one knew how the original killer chose his victims.
I guess we just got lucky we caught him when we did.
"We"? The LAPD.
CHLOE: We don't have time for luck.
We got to get back to the station, figure out a connection between these victims.
Yes, I couldn't agree more, Detective.
After all, the sooner we finish this case, the sooner things can all go back to normal.
Oof.
Gnarly.
[CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS.]
[EASY JAZZ PIANO PLAYING.]
WOMAN: You're burning my table.
Hmm? Oh, I'm sorry.
Um You don't ever take a moment to stop, do you? No rest for the wicked, so no rest for me, either.
I've got you figured out, you know.
You do, huh? You could work anywhere Your office, your home, but you choose to work in this bar.
Why? I like a stiff drink? Because you don't actually want to be alone.
Then why do I sit by myself? Maybe you feel like you don't deserve the company.
Well, look who's a detective now.
[CHUCKLES.]
So, what are you spending all these lonesome hours on, anyway? I'm working on trying to find the guy who kills cheating couples.
The Broken Hearts Killer? That's what they call him.
Six crime scenes, not one shred of evidence.
It's like I'm looking for clues that don't exist.
It never ceases to amaze me, the lengths people will go to when they want to make something just right.
What do you mean? Like when people come into the bar for a special occasion, like a birthday or a proposal.
Sometimes they'll come in here days ahead of time just to make sure everything's perfect.
Maybe it's the same for whoever this Broken Hearts guy is.
All right, Lieutenant, what did you want to show us? - I may have a lead.
- Ah, did you find it during A.
V.
Club? We already know the killer disabled the hotel's surveillance cameras.
On the day of the murders, yes, but then I started thinking what if the killer scoped out the location a week before? And I found this.
- CHLOE: Wait, is that - Our guy? Maybe.
The car's registered to a Neil Berger, former schoolteacher.
Well, that's it, a chap snapping photos? How do we know he's not scrapbooking? - I put an APB out on him, and - [PHONE CHIMES.]
We just got a hit.
He's been spotted in front of the original killer's house.
Let's go.
We-Well, that's actually quite promising.
[KNOCK AT DOOR.]
Hi.
Listen, I know we're not exactly speaking right now, but there's something that I need to tell you.
Okay.
Now, don't freak out, but, uh, Charlotte Richards is back.
Oh But you have absolutely nothing to worry about, Linda.
She's not, uh [SIGHS.]
You know, she's not Mom anymore.
Wow.
It's really kind of you to come all the way over here to tell me that.
I mean, especially when you must be dealing with such a shock yourself.
You knew, didn't you? I may have run into Charlotte a few times I don't know, maybe here.
You're treating her, Linda? You didn't think, just once, that maybe I had the right to know that she was alive? I assumed you knew.
Well, maybe you can help me.
- [CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS.]
- For the last time, man, please, please quit taking pictures of my house! PHOTOGRAPHER: Your house? You're lucky you get to live here, okay? This place should be a freakin' landmark by now! Do you know who lived here? A great artist, man.
- Who are you?! - Seriously, last warning, dude.
Next time, I'm calling the cops.
Call the cops.
They'll be on my side.
Oh, whatever.
- Neil Berger? - Yeah.
Wow.
Sorry you had to witness that.
Um, bah.
Okay, who's ready? Ready for what? For the wonder that is the Broken Hearts Tour.
Duh.
You guys are my 3:00, right? Uh-huh.
All right, all right.
Let's get some ponchos on you.
When I ran into Charlotte, I-I-I may have mentioned a few things that I shouldn't have.
But by the time I realized that she wasn't Mom it was too late.
Oh, no.
You know, she was just staring at me with these these lost eyes, searching for answers.
What are you asking me, Amenadiel? I think that maybe she deserves to know the truth.
I understand that you miss your mom and that you didn't get to say good-bye.
But Charlotte is a woman who has literally been to Hell and back.
She's fragile.
When I found out the truth, it nearly broke me.
And I was stable.
So what are you saying? I'm saying if you really want to help Charlotte you'll stay away.
BERGER: Originally built in 1909, Hoffman's iconic Craftsman home is just blocks away from what I like to call "The Last Heartbreak" The scene of the final murder, and where the killer was ultimately apprehended by police.
Why are we wasting our time with these ridiculous shenanigans? Let's just grab this miscreant and be done with it.
Because, unfortunately, we don't have enough evidence to arrest him.
PIERCE: Serial killers love talking about themselves.
The more Neil talks, the more likely he'll incriminate himself.
I may as well be speaking to myself.
Uh, I'm listening.
CHLOE: Um, excuse me, uh, Neil, is it? Yeah.
Well, I was wondering what you thought about this new copycat killer who surfaced.
Ask me, it was only a matter of time before someone picked up where the original killer left off.
You know, someone special.
Someone who knew there was a need for what he did.
Right.
The original killer, he was an auteur.
But this new guy, he's just Sort of a cheap copy.
Whoa.
Hold on a second.
This new guy is not the original, okay, but he is a damn sweet cover.
He is efficient, he is precise.
I mean, he gets the little details right, down to the interlocking fingers.
Detective Decker, LAPD.
That information wasn't public yet, was it? No, it wasn't.
Finally, this bloody charade is over, and things can all go back to normal.
I'll meet you back at the precinct.
- [HANDCUFFS CLICKING.]
- Ow.
WOMAN [VOICE ECHOING.]
: You're burning my table.
Can I help you? Kay? Kay.
Kay, how is this possible? Is this a prank? Did someone put you up to this? Look, I get it.
I look just like my grandmother, but this is taking things too far.
[CHUCKLES.]
Your grandmother, of course.
I'm sorry, I knew her back in the day.
The resemblance is incredible.
You knew her back in the day? How old were you, like, two? I'm older than I look.
Well, Mr.
Older Than You Look, I'm Maddie.
Hi.
Pierce.
I used to come in here a lot, back when I was just a detective.
That's what we do here Cheap drinks, good cooking and cops.
That's actually how my grandparents met.
Gramps was a cop, and he met Nana when she was waiting tables.
- "Raids" White is your grandfather? - Yep.
Cops are always coming in here and geeking out over him.
Well, yeah.
Kay married the cop who solved the Broken Hearts Killer case.
Well, he made the arrest, but he never really solved it.
He caught the guy red-handed, staging bodies in the Chavez Ravine.
True, but he never revealed how he chose his victims.
It drove Gramps crazy, so he kept at it even after he retired.
He would sit in that booth right there - with his old files when Nana worked.
- [CHUCKLES.]
Where is Ray these days? Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Uh, Gramps passed about six years ago.
[SIGHS.]
And her? MADDIE: Followed a little after.
- [SIGHS.]
I'm sorry.
- Don't be.
They lived a long, happy life together, and went peacefully, a few months apart.
That sounds nice.
All right, case closed, I assume.
And not a particularly interesting one, in retrospect.
Let's find something that's more challenging, you know? More "us.
" This case isn't over.
We have to get a confession out of Neil.
Oh, so you and Pierce can do your dynamic duo thing again? No.
It's you and me this time, no Pierce.
Oh.
No Pierce, but we're still following his lead in absentia.
We are following the case.
Let's go solve this.
So Neil, from your tour, I saw that you like to tell a good story, so tell me one now: how'd you do it? Yeah.
Uh, well, it was early.
And, uh, we met at a bar.
And then, I, uh, I gave him a sign.
And he came over, at which point, I think I said, "Hey," and then, he was all like - "Hey," and then - Right.
Can you fast-forward to the part where you smashed the couples' chests in? Wait a minute.
You-you think I'm the copycat? You fit the killer's psychological profile to a T, you know things about the case that no one else could know.
Oh, my God.
This is gonna be so amazing for the tour.
Now I'm actually part of the investigation.
Oh, geez, I owe McMillan now.
Mc McMillan? Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Officer McMillan over in Vice.
He's helped me out throughout the years.
You know, he would slip me, uh, copies of stuff for the tour.
And then, when these new killings started happening, well, I bought some photos off of him, and it was the best 400 bucks I've ever spent.
Ha! So Pierce doesn't know everything, after all.
Thank you.
Hey, Dan.
If you're looking for Twisted Ferret, they've got a gig in Bakersfield.
[CHUCKLES SOFTLY.]
They'll be back.
Because this gig is still the best gig in town.
The school called.
Apparently, Trixie gave pot brownies to Ms.
Benson for Teacher Appreciation Day.
Well, did she appreciate them? No, she didn't, Maze.
She didn't appreciate being rushed to the hospital when she couldn't feel her legs anymore.
[LAUGHS.]
The woman's 70 years old.
What the hell were you thinking? Hey, not my fault the old hag can't handle the good stuff.
It's not a joke, Maze! Our one red line is our daughter, and things like this cannot happen.
Or what, Douche? [EXHALES.]
If you want to live in the same home as my kid, you can't keep pulling stunts like this.
Fine.
I'll move out.
Since none of you want me here anyway.
That's not what I'm saying.
No.
No, you would all love me to be something I'm not.
Well, I am not a babysitter.
I am not a roommate.
And I am sick of your Goody Two-shoes ex-wife, and that stupid little brat of yours anyway.
[QUIETLY.]
: Maze.
Classy.
PIERCE: So Neil isn't our killer.
No, he's just an obsessed tour guide who legally obtained crime scene photos.
- So we don't have any suspects.
- CHLOE: Yeah, and our killer could be trying to find his next victim.
We need a lead.
Hold on.
You said your grandfather kept copies of all his files.
Do you still have them? Somewhere in the back, yeah.
My mom didn't have the heart to throw them out.
You mind if I take a look? Sure.
Chloe, meet me at The Adams.
I may have something.
Yeah.
I'm on my way.
LUCIFER: Ah.
I know that look.
Either there are new sandwiches in the vending machine, or you have a lead.
Actually, Pierce has a lead.
Oh, for goodness' sake.
He wants us to meet him.
Why? So we can watch him pontificate while leading us down another blind alley? What is your problem today? My problem, Detective, is that we don't need a third party interfering with our partnership.
You know what? Maybe it's best if I meet Pierce alone.
We don't have time to make this about you.
There is a serial killer on the loose.
Uh Detective.
KAY: To wrapping up your latest case.
Sayonara, Broken Hearts Killer.
Well, Ray was actually the one to catch him, but I'm happy to drink to that anyway.
[SIGHS.]
Now, maybe you can take me on a real date, instead of just pie and drinks here.
[SIGHS, CLEARS THROAT.]
Let me guess, you already have your next case.
No, not this time.
Um I'm transferring.
Out of state.
Transferring? Why? It's just time.
I don't understand.
This is what I do.
I move forward and I never look back.
But I thought we you and I were I deal with death every day, and someday, you're gonna die, too, and I just You have these walls up, and I thought it was part of your whole tough guy act, but now I see what it is: you're scared.
But you know what the sad truth is? If you don't learn to open up, nobody will ever love you.
I know.
CHLOE: Pierce, look at this.
Hey.
Pierce.
Are you okay? Yeah, sorry.
Um [CLEARS THROAT.]
What were you saying? Your mentor, look at all this stuff that he found, like, look these call logs.
They prove that the original killer's victims all had spouses that called into the Dear Dottie radio show.
That was a radio show about love and relationship advice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You really know your history.
- [CHUCKLES SOFTLY.]
- A-Anyway, it's the only connection that was found between the victims.
But that show went off the air years ago.
I'm not sure how it's gonna help us now.
Well, if the original killer listened to the radio show to find his victims, then maybe the copycat's doing the same thing.
So the question is what radio show would that be now? Oh, my God.
Chance's Chocolates? I'm obsessed.
It's a radio show that sets up cheating couples.
See, Chance brings someone on who thinks their spouse is cheating, and then, he calls the cheater pretending to be a candy shop giving away free chocolates as a promotion, and asks who they should send it to.
- How thrilling.
- Right? And then, the person either names their partner and "Aw, happy ending," or they name someone else, and expose their dirty, cheating ways.
Oh, it's so juicy.
So it turns out, both couples had a significant other that appeared on the show.
LUCIFER: So we're assuming that our killer listens to this juvenile program? We've narrowed our suspects down to anyone who doesn't have satellite radio, and Ms.
Lopez.
Actually, the addresses are beeped out.
Probably for reasons like this.
Okay, so the killer has to be somebody that works on the show.
Someone with access to this info? Right.
So we need to make ourselves the target, and flush the killer out.
Great idea.
Decker and I will do it.
We'll give out my home address and lure the killer there.
Sure.
- That could work.
- ELLA: Oh, man.
You guys are totally gonna be the cheating lovers.
Marvelous.
Well, since that's been sorted, I assume my services are no longer needed.
Uh, actually, there is one more piece of the sting we'll need.
CHANCE: And we are here with our jilted lover, Lucifer.
[LAUGHING.]
: Now, first off, what is up with that name? "Lucifer"? I-I You think maybe that is part of the reason that's driving a wedge between you and your old lady? Well, first off, I am not a "jilted lover.
" No, no.
No one ever wants to believe that, do they? But you wouldn't be here if you probably didn't think something was going on, right? And we're gonna find out exactly what that is when we come back.
[CLEARS THROAT, SNIFFLES.]
You're doing great, by the way.
You're late! BRANDON: Yeah, sorry I'm late.
Traffic was just awful.
Stop.
I ordered a pastrami.
Is this pastrami? No, it is not pastrami! Now get out of here! And we are back with our guest Lucifer, who is now gonna tell us all about his girl Chloe.
Uh, right.
Well, um, she's my partner.
At work.
Oh, so it's a workplace thing, huh? When did things change? Well, she's been spending quite a bit of time with our new boss.
Cheating on you with the boss? Oh, that's low.
Well, it's quite a bit more complex than your obnoxious braying's making it out to be.
Well, let's find out, shall we? Let's get Chloe on the line.
Uh, yes? CHANCE [SWISS ACCENT.]
: Uh, hello, uh, Chloe? Uh, this is, uh, Pop Sugar.
We are a new Swiss chocolate shop in Los Feliz, and we are, uh, running a big promotion.
Yeah, we are going to send, uh, a free box of chocolates to, uh, your special someone, if you have a special someone somewhere? CHLOE: Oh, wow.
Wow, yeah, that's awesome.
Um and-and actually, it's perfect timing.
Um, as we're having, um, a date night tonight.
Oh! Wonderful.
All we need, then, is his name and address.
Yeah, his name is Marcus, and he lives at [OLD-FASHIONED CAR HORN SOUND EFFECT BRAYS.]
Okay, Chloe, that is good.
Listen, I'm just curious, because we're all such romantics here, what is it about, uh, t-this, uh, guy that gives you the goose bumps? Uh um well, he's, um he's he's very handsome.
Yeah, but isn't there anything, uh, more than just looks? Um, well, he's very brave, and we both care about the same sorts of things, like, well, doing what's right, and, uh, and helping other people.
I think he's a good person.
Sounds like a hell of a guy.
Uh, and we'll make sure to get that package to him uh, before the end of the night.
Okay, thanks.
[NORMAL VOICE.]
: And there you have it, everyone.
Another cheater exposed.
[CHUCKLES.]
Sometimes, chocolate can be dark, but you know what? Isn't better to always know the truth? Where the hell did he go? Welcome to my humble abode.
Um I like rocks.
You have a rock collection? Well, the thing about rocks is they're old.
They never change.
I've taken one from all the places I've visited.
You've been a lot of places, huh? Well, gather no moss and all that.
I know I don't have a lot of things, but what I love about this place is the killer view.
Oh, my God.
This is beautiful.
[PIERCE CHUCKLES.]
Decker, listen.
I know that our, uh, opportunity for a second date was interrupted earlier.
Hopefully this will make up for it.
DAN: Hey, you guys all set? [CLEARS THROAT.]
Hey, Dan.
Yeah.
We're all set here.
Coast is clear on my end.
Ah, excellent.
Daniel.
You're here.
Hey, pal.
I didn't know you were coming in for this one.
I wasn't, but, um, I wanted to ask you something.
Okay.
How did you move on from the detective when I showed up and replaced you? And please, don't say improv.
- You didn't replace me.
- Well, true, true.
I suppose that would imply we're on the same level.
[SIGHS.]
Look, I get it.
All right? I get how you feel with this whole Pierce and Chloe thing.
- Mm.
- And, yes, I admit, I did feel a little jealous when you showed up.
Well, justifiably so.
[SIGHS.]
But then I realized you had nothing to do with why my marriage ended.
You and I are different people.
We each have our own relationship with Chloe.
Once I came to terms with that, I was fine.
I hope you don't mind.
I asked Lopez what your favorite dish was.
No, it's, um, it's great.
Is something wrong? Um um, Marcus, maybe we shouldn't do this.
Are we too visible? No.
- Is the plan too obvious? - No, no, no.
I mean you and me.
You know, we work together and things could get weird.
That's all.
Look, you asked me out first, Decker.
I, uh I did and you turned me down.
And I I was disappointed, but, you know, I got it.
And you're the one who said you're, you know, "not relationship material.
" You're a good man and I really like you, but I, uh, I-I need somebody who can let me in and I just don't know if that's you.
Hello, shadowy figure.
Here to spoil the date? [GRUNTING.]
God! God! LAPD.
You're under arrest.
I know my rights, okay? Fair use, I want a lawyer.
Pastrami boy? [CHUCKLES.]
- You're the killer? - Killer? What? What are you talking about? Dude, I'm here for the show.
- What show? - The show, the show.
I-I-I try to film an angry ex busting in on their spouse.
Like you and then I put it up on my Web site as a bootleg after show.
Hey! Hey, look, I'm trying to be a producer, man.
The only reason I'm interning is so I can get access to those tapes and I post those tapes raw and unedited on my Web site.
Unedited? Without the addresses censored out? Well, yeah, I mean, that's what unedited means.
I'm showing life at its most raw.
Ow.
The killer could be listening to those tapes.
Could be anyone.
Waiting in the shadows Till the sun goes down Maybe I should've waited until after dinner to say all that.
No, you're right.
I do have walls up.
I've had them up for a long, long time.
When I feel like someone's getting past them, I run.
But with you, Chloe, I don't want those walls up anymore.
I don't want to run anymore.
You deserve someone who's gonna let you in and I want to do that if you'll give me the chance.
[STAMMERS.]
That's Chloe? You all right? Chloe! Chloe.
You shouldn't have hurt him.
- [GRUNTING.]
- Too bad.
If you'd started with him, I would've let you swing.
You you're the you're the guy from the radio.
Yes, and you're the chap who bought the original killer's house.
How remarkably method of you.
Don't-don't-don't you get it? I-I-I-I did this for you.
I-I these-these two, they-they-they betrayed you.
[CHUCKLES.]
I didn't ask for this.
But you deserve it.
I found Hoffman's journals hidden in the attic.
He understood how hard it is to lose someone you care about.
We wanted to show the world that you-you can't just leave people.
You don't get to decide who someone wants to be with.
And neither do I.
Does this mean you're-you're not, you're not gonna Detective.
Oh, my God.
Are they okay? They're fine.
They're fine.
Come on.
Wakey-wakey, Detective.
DAN: Come on, pal.
Lieutenant Pierce.
BARISTA: I've got a wake-up for Charlotte.
[SIGHS.]
You are following me.
No, this-this is, this is just where I come to read the paper.
I know when people are lying to me.
Honestly, this is just, um, all it's really all a big misunderstanding.
[CHUCKLES.]
So all the crazy stuff you said earlier is a misunderstanding? Please, I just You don't understand what it's like not remembering what you did, not knowing who you were.
All I want is the truth.
How do we know each other? You were my mom.
I know.
I know.
Please, have a seat.
There is, uh, there is so much to explain.
Olga? Wait, I'm sorry.
I thought that Maze was gonna be here watching Trixie.
No Maze.
She said mean thing to me and then she go.
What do you mean, "she go"? She take her knives and she move out.
Oh.
- Thank you, Olga.
- [GRUNTS.]
I know.
Thank you, though.
[KNOCKING AT DOOR.]
Olga, did you forget something? Well, that's a new one.
Never been mistaken for an Olga before.
[CHUCKLES.]
What are you doing here? I, um I wanted to explain.
- Look, I know that I've been acting - Insecure.
Childish.
Possessive.
Well, I was going to say strangely, but [SIGHS.]
never mind.
The truth is that perhaps I was slightly insecure about Pierce moving in on our partnership.
Oh, Lucifer, that's not what's happening.
No, I know, because I've realized that there's room in your life for all sorts of relationships, even if one of them is with with him.
- I know - Just please, be careful.
[CHUCKLES SOFTLY.]
Okay.
Do you want to stay? I can make some coffee - and we can - Ah, I can't, unfortunately.
There's a bachelorette party at Lux and well.
Okay, another time.
Yes.
Okay, well have fun.
[MUTTERS UNDER BREATH.]
Bring on your forces of nature Mm, mm, mm Bring on the storm that's raging Mm, mm, mm CHLOE: Dinner sounds great.
How about tomorrow? - That's perfect.
- Good.
I'll pick you up at 7:00? - Yeah.
- I'll see you then, Chloe.
Someone special, I assume? Yes, she is.
And for the first time of my life I'm gonna go for it.
Good for you.
You have to risk the broken heart if you wonna get something out of this life, right? That's not my heart of risking.
She's the key to finally getting what I've always wanted.
