Macgyver s03e18 Episode Script

Rock the Cradle

I have this recurring nightmare.
I'm on a game show.
The $ 1 00, 000 question is, "What's the opposite of Swissair?" And before I can think, I answer, "Dalton Airways.
" Jack Dalton's dream, my nightmare, and at the moment, we were both living it.
He picked up this lame duck at a drug-enforcement auction in Mexico, at a bargain basement price, of course.
Even drug-dealing desperadoes draw the line on what they'll fly.
But not Jack.
Oh, no.
Come on, be good to Papa.
She's a little temperamental.
Come on, baby, be nice to Papa.
Jack, we've lost one engine! Yeah, well, we still got one engine.
I'll get her cranked right back up.
Old reliable, that's what she is.
Come on, baby.
- It didn't work.
- You're right.
But look at the bright side, Mac.
We're still airborne, close to home And we're falling like a rock! Yeah.
It might have to do with the flaps being stuck.
We're only ten miles from the airport.
Landing gear coming down.
- Uh-oh.
- Uh-oh? What, uh-oh? - What do you mean? - Let me put it this way.
I anticipate a problem when we get there.
- What? - You see these two little lights? The good news, the right landing gear is down.
Bad news is the left landing gear isn't.
You mean we can't land! We're just not going to make it, are we? What are you doing? Where are you going? We've only got one parachute.
And whose fault is that? Okay, okay.
What about me? Jack, we all know the captain goes down with his ship.
I'm just the engineer.
The hydraulic fluid leaked out.
The airfield's just ahead.
I figure you got about four minutes to come up with an ingenious plan.
Preferably one that works.
Now they're green! MacGyver, you're beautiful! Jack! MacGyver! Hey! MacGyver! We made it! We defied gravity! We defied the gods! I don't know why I'm mad at you.
I already knew you were nuts.
The question is, how touched am I to keep getting hooked up with you? You're gonna look back on this and laugh when we make a go of Dalton Air.
No.
No! I refuse to get wrapped up in your insanity.
No! Mac, wait, wait.
I know it got a little harum-scarum up there, but you never have to fly with me again if you don't want to.
That's good, Jack.
That's perfect.
I really don't want to fly with you ever! Fine.
I do have an opening on my ground crew for a person of your eminent qualifications.
Mac? No.
Excuse me.
That's right.
A large shipment of U.
S.
mint grade currency paper.
You'll have your money.
Just make sure you deliver.
Milland's decided he won't take the fake bills for the currency paper.
He wants 20 grand in real money for delivery tomorrow.
That wasn't the deal.
Where will we get that kind of money? Don't sweat it.
We can fence the phoney When we get it, we'll have real plates, real paper, and that means real money.
Real sweet.
Cutler what's this doing here? I don't know.
I put it all in the dryer with poker chips to age the bills.
- It's empty.
It's gone.
- What do you mean, it's gone? Where's the money? The plates.
Somebody took the damn plates.
It's all right, baby, Mommy's here.
Carlo! Where's Doreen? She said she'd stay till the end of my shift.
I sent her home.
We're blowing out of here.
- What do you mean? - We're leaving.
We're leaving this town for good.
- I got all that we need.
- Where'd you get that? Hey, never mind.
I just got it, all right? You stole it from Cutler and Durst? Are you crazy? You can't rip them off! I did.
We're gone.
He's been nosing around here for two days.
It has to be Carlo.
- Where is he? - I don't know, but I bet Katie knows.
Parked out back.
You get Junior ready to hit the road.
Going somewhere, Carlo? No, you idiot! Real wise, Einstein.
Get the girl.
Nothing! He only had about five grand.
Katie's gone, she's got to have the money and the plates.
She's got more than that if she saw you ice her old man.
- Oh, God, do you? - Don't panic.
We know where she lives.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
First we dump the body, then find her.
She can't get far lugging that kid.
Yo, MacGyver! Hey, buddy! - Opportunity knocks.
- I don't want to hear it.
Then read it before I frame it.
That is Dalton Air's first bona fide cargo transport contract.
- We're in business.
- Nope.
You're in business.
Look, it's a legit contract.
Legit cargo.
No drugs or alcohol, no toxins, chemical cheese, no endangered species for slaughter.
Nothing to object on moral, ethical, scientific grounds.
All right.
I'll bite.
What's the cargo? Portable potties for Panama.
- I won't fly with you, you know that.
- I'm not asking you.
Help me get airborne.
Pick-up and delivery is tomorrow.
Tomorrow! Are you get off my couch.
Look what you're doing to it.
Get out, forget about it.
If you don't help me, I'll lose the contract.
Which means I won't make rent on the hangar.
Which means I'm gonna have to ask you to let me move in for a while.
I've got tools and a welder in storage.
I know where we can scrounge for parts.
Shouldn't you lock your door? Somebody might steal this beauty.
I thought I did lock it.
Shows you what happens when I get all excited.
I only rent this end of the hangar, other tenants have keys.
We'll have to drop the generator out of this engine.
You got a chain hoist? I got one around here somewhere.
What was that? A cat? That was no cat.
- It's a baby, Jack.
- What's it doing here? You asking me? It's your airplane.
Okay, it's my airplane.
What's that got to do with me? Am I supposed to believe whoever abandoned this baby picked your hangar and airplane by pure chance? I'm not asking you to believe.
I don't know how it got here or why.
I do know we got to do something.
Quick! Well, who are you, little guy? What do you think a kid like this eats? - You know about these things, Mac.
- What, do I look like Dr Spock? Oh, it's a boy.
Burps like a boy.
Trust me, check under the hood.
Here.
Check this.
- Will you please make it stop? - He's hungry.
Well, I don't have the equipment to feed it.
"Dear Jack, this is Jack Junior.
Please" No way.
Not mine.
"Please take care of him.
" I wouldn't do this unless I had to.
I am forever grateful.
Katie.
' Hey - Who are you calling? - Social Services.
We need an abandoned baby pick-up.
Jack Junior.
- This is yours, isn't it? - No.
I may have inspired a namesake but I sure as hell didn't sire one.
- Oh, yeah? Then who's Katie? - Who knows? Do I take responsibility for women I can't remember - who can't forget me? No.
- You're lying.
Your eye is twitching.
I don't know any Katie.
Well, I don't remember her.
- Jack? - We met at the Officers' Club.
She plied me with mescal.
Lasted about a week.
It was over a year ago.
I don't remember if I had fun.
Don't try to con your old bachelor friend, Jack.
Who's conning who? This is a problem for Social Services.
Let the police find the mother.
It's not our problem.
Our problem is a plane that has to fly by morning.
Now, we can't stand around babysitting.
- Here - What are you doing? - You've gone over the top.
- Where are you going? To find a cop.
Preferably a lady cop.
Mac - What? - Oh, no.
- Oh, no.
- What is it? - Oh, no.
- What's wrong? - What's the matter? - Oh, no.
- What? - Oh, no.
- Whoa.
- Double whoa.
Well get a grip.
- We got to change him.
- Can't we just hose him down? No.
I don't have any diapers.
Check the basket, maybe Katie left some.
Oh, man, I don't see anything.
Well, rig something.
Give me a blanket, anything.
I like this kid.
He's got his own trust fund! Mommy's in big trouble, huh? - Dawn - Katie, what are you doing here? They've been here already, looking for you.
I didn't know what to do.
I can't go home.
I've got no place left to go.
Hold on.
Here, take it.
Buy a one-way ticket out of here.
Anywhere.
Just go.
These are heavy people.
If you stick around, they'll find you.
Now go, honey.
And good luck.
Jack Jack.
Jack, it's your turn.
I'm sorry.
Captain Dalton is currently in a coma and unavailable.
You've been in a coma all your life.
Even when you are awake you don't do anything right.
I send you to the store for a few necessities, and you come back with chips and beer instead of talcum powder and diapers.
They were sold out.
In case you haven't heard, the yuppies are breeding like guppies.
You wanted to play host.
"Your hangar's too drafty", remember? He can't be hungry, I just fed him.
That green gunk you call food? I'd be crying too.
If he's a Dalton, which he is not, he'd want real food.
Steak and eggs With only four teeth, I think he'd prefer milk.
Here.
- Jack, look out! - What? What?! Strong for his age, huh? You know, this place is not childproof.
Neither is mine.
The kid's got money, he'll pay.
You're not touching it till we know where it came from.
We know where it came from.
It came from Katie.
I'm not wild about having a baby, but it was darn decent of her to leave some child support.
What, 95 thousand dollars worth? You said she was a waitress at the Officers' Club.
Call me sceptical, but I don't think her tips were that good, and they certainly didn't come in the form of 1 00 dollar bills.
Come on, let's face it.
That money is why she's on the run.
Probably that punk Carlo she ended up with.
- Who's Carlo? - Your everyday pretty boy.
- Some kind of runner at the club.
- She dumped you for him? Yeah.
You got a broken computer.
I got a broken heart.
But that's history.
Captain Dalton has a mission.
Panama needs portable potties.
Sorry, you're not on the flight plan, so we got to find your mommy.
Well, until we do maybe this is the next best thing.
- What's that sound? - I put a clock inside the teddy bear.
- What for? - It'll help him get to sleep.
The ticking inside sounds like a heartbeat.
- Mac, it's a baby, not a puppy.
- I know.
But at least he won't think he's alone.
It doesn't look like me, does it? Him, Jack.
Not it.
Him.
As a matter of fact, with a moustache, a forked tongue, a twitching eye, there's a strong possibility.
Listen, I told you everything I know.
It he's circumstantial evidence.
You were quick to lay claim to that money, weren't you? I had no such thoughts.
Come to think of it, that's probably meant for us.
A finder's fee, compensation.
For taking care of him, you know.
Food, drinks, whatever.
Hey! He could buy a partnership in Dalton Air.
Be a millionaire by the time he's out of diapers.
- At least out of college.
- Forget it.
You're not getting this money.
Iron supplements? Printing plates.
This is all counterfeit.
Don't tell me that, it can't be! Well, it is.
Except for the paper, this would fool almost anybody.
I think I'm going to be sick.
You too, huh? I don't get it, Pete.
The plates look real.
Well, that's because they are.
I talked to a friend in the Treasury Department.
Someone working on the inside made off with currency plates three weeks ago.
They found him on the coast one week ago, murdered.
Was Katie the type to get mixed up with guys like this? No way.
But her boyfriend Carlo would.
Then we're looking for Katie and this Carlo.
That's what we had in mind.
I think it's time to feed one end and change the other.
- Or something, okay? - Pete, do you mind? No, no, go ahead.
No, no, wait, wait.
That is an imported leather pad.
Just a minute.
Let me put papers down.
There you go.
- What's the ripping sound? - MacGyver's duct tape.
- Oh, boy.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You guys are pathetic, you know that? Where did you learn to diaper a baby, a fish market? Look out.
Here, let me show you.
Here.
Oh, boy.
You don't even know how to fold a diaper.
Look at that.
You know you're right.
This looks like a job for an experienced father.
We'll check out the club where she works.
No place for a kid that age.
You're not going to leave me alone with him.
Guess they did, huh? All right, come here.
There.
Now, no way to attach the thing.
Those guys don't know what they're doing.
Come here.
Yeah, there we are.
How are you? You know Three Little Pigs? - Helen? - Yes, sir? We have a baby in distress.
Would you send for some diapers? And some safety pins? Mr Thornton, when was the last time you changed a diaper? It doesn't make a difference.
Just get diapers, safety pins and baby powder.
Don't want to get a red bottom, do we? I'm not Katie's mother.
She comes and goes as she pleases.
- We just want to know where she is.
- She left her baby with me, Dawn.
- You? You're kidding me.
- I wish I was.
Come on, help me back to bachelorhood.
Maybe she needed a break from the kid.
Come on, we both know better than that.
We're the ones that need the break.
A baby his age needs his mother.
Hey Isn't that the guy that used to go out with Katie? So it is.
What Katie does is her business.
Look, I've got work to do here, all right? Come on, Dawn, we all know she's in trouble.
We just want to help.
At least tell us where she's living.
She can find me at the old Lundel Industries hangar.
- Katie knows the place.
- Sure.
Look, we've got a bogie on our tail.
Lose him! Lose him! Let's put the old alley-oop on him.
Alley-oop! All right.
We're closing! We're closing! All right, lock on.
You did it! The police found Carlos' body in the trunk of his car near the waterfront.
He'd been shot in the back.
And we found Katie's apartment all torn up.
The landlady didn't know anything, or didn't want to know anything.
Same with Katie's waitress friend.
You two can relax a bit, we're going to find her.
We've got both the FBI and Treasury in on it now.
- The police have an APB out on her.
- Good.
Hey, this thing's looking pretty good.
You building this for the kid or yourself? A little of both.
- Tell the Red Baron I said goodbye.
- Will do.
Holy cow! Hey, he's history! That's five! Hey how goes the war? Hey, we're aces.
What a pilot! What a wingman.
Hey, you know, Mac, I think this little fellow could be my kid.
I mean, he loves to fly.
Got a great belch.
By that gleam in his eye, he'll be dynamite with the ladies.
- Circumstantial evidence, Jack.
- Reasonable doubt, Mac.
I figure I'll take responsibility rather than turn him over to strangers.
- All right.
- Right is right.
If I'm going to play papa, I need child support.
Since this kid's trust fund turned out to be bogus, I have to work for a living.
- No way! - Yeah, afraid so.
So will you please help me get this crate airborne? Let's do it.
Well, we got number one running again.
Let's get the hydraulics to hydraulic.
Can we have a moment with you gentlemen? - You have our attention.
- You were looking for someone.
- The same we're looking for.
- Who would that be? - You want to play games? - We don't know where Katie is.
- Does that answer your question? - Figured you didn't.
- Well, have a nice day.
- We came for the baby.
- Wait a minute.
- It's this simple.
We take the baby.
Katie comes to us.
- Over my dead body.
- Suit yourself.
You got ten seconds.
Start it up, Jack! Come on, baby! Come on, come on! Yeah, way to go! Jack, get on the radio! Call the police! - They're calling the cops! - Let's get the hell out of here! Hey Mac, you know that radio's shot.
Yeah.
I know that.
Nice flying.
I couldn't have done it without my co-pilot.
We should have done the right thing and taken this child to Social Services.
Forget it.
First we find Katie.
Besides, if Junior's mine which he well might be, I imagine I'd have a say in the matter, don't you think? Pete, did the Feds have any luck finding Katie? No, not yet, but the attack on the hangar does tell us the hoods don't have her either.
They're right about one thing.
Katie is not far from this baby.
Come on, let's figure this out.
You're Katie, on the run.
You're afraid for your baby so you drop him off with someone you can trust.
- Now what do you do? - Probably try to hop a bus and split.
But you can't because you're a mother.
Take a look at healthy Junior here.
- She's a good mother.
- She couldn't go to her apartment.
All she had was what was in her pocket, unless she hocked something.
Maybe you hole up in a hotel or a motel until the money runs out.
- Which gives you time to think.
- And time to miss the baby.
You want to see him, but you're afraid to.
So you pick up the phone.
But who do you call? My phone's been disconnected for the last year or so.
She's not going to get in touch with us.
- How do we get in touch with her? - Oh, we'll come up with something.
Did you bring the money? Remember, I want real money.
Let's see what we're buying first.
- Well? - Beautiful.
This is the real stuff, Durst, mint grade currency paper.
We get those plates, we're in business.
So where's my money? - What's this? - The conclusion of our deal.
She didn't see the sign.
I know it.
Give her time, Jack.
She's got to be scared to death out there.
Maybe so.
Why hasn't she called? If she didn't see the sign, that means she's gone and so is my cargo contract.
That is not what's important here.
Maybe not to you, but to me.
It's the rebirth of Dalton Air, my airlines.
Now look what you've done.
Why are you blaming me? I'm not the one who woke him.
You started it.
Do you mind? We've got a crying baby.
MacGyver, if you want to play papa, you can't panic.
Piece of cake, huh, guy? You're really getting into this, aren't you? Well for a guy who's always considered himself terminally allergic to the concept of commitment yeah, it's not bad.
How about you? Come on, you know me, Jack.
It's been in the back of my head, but I've always kinda just backed away from it.
Do you think that's what it takes to be happy? That's a beautiful thought.
Will you marry me? She knows your voice.
- Hello? - Jack? Jack! Oh, my baby! How are you? Jack, they killed Carlo.
Right in front of me.
They killed him.
Let's go.
Yeah.
All right, thanks.
See you.
Another piece of the puzzle.
The body of a warehouse worker was found this morning off Highway 26.
Ballistics matched up with the gun that killed Carlo.
Any connection other than the bullets? Yeah, the victim worked for a paper manufacturer, who supplies bank note stock to the government.
- Paper's no good without plates.
- Means they'll come after them.
Can't you arrest them? As a matter of fact, Federal agents are on the way to that club right now.
- You and I will meet them.
- Want my help? Jack, why don't you stay and take care of the baby? We'll try to get along without you.
He looks good.
I knew he was going to be in good hands.
There's things we should talk about.
Jack, do you think I could freshen up? - I've been up for two days.
- Oh, sure.
Shower's upstairs on the left.
Thanks.
- Here you go.
- Got it.
Okay, guys, just as we discussed.
You're with me.
That's the last bundle.
How much can we print with all this? Zip until we get those plates back.
I figure we should pay Dawn another call.
- I think she's holding out on us.
- I think you're right.
Treasury Department, open the door! We have a warrant to search these premises.
Let's go.
Wilson, take the back.
Denny, upstairs.
Move it, move it.
Now what? Just sit tight and keep your mouth shut.
Wait them out.
"And though the hill was high and steep, the little engine said, 'I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
' Black smoke and obnoxious fumes were spilling out.
But the little engine just held her nose, and said, 'I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
' And finally, with one final she made it to the top!" And what do you think she said? She said "I knew I could, I knew I could.
" Yeah! Yeah.
The end.
- Jack? - Yeah? Thank you.
Thank you for being such a good Father? I'm the father, aren't I? No question we knew how to have a good time.
And there was that time on the Strand.
You, me, the moon.
And the mescal.
A lot of mescal.
Not that I was too messed up to remember.
I just want to be sure.
He's not your child, Jack.
He's Carlo's.
But I did name him after you, because I knew that he would have your kindness, your laugh - Your love.
- Well, right now he needs changing.
I think it's Mommy's turn.
Jack, I'm sorry if I made you think that No apology necessary.
Hey, this is Jack Dalton, the mad rover, remember? I can't have any little ankle biter tying me down.
Shoot, I can't even keep a goldfish.
I want this place sealed.
Do something about that door down there.
Yes, sir.
I'll get right on it.
- What have we got? - Nothing.
We turned it inside out.
No sign of counterfeiters or any printing apparatus.
We're regrouping to move in on their apartments.
- Keep us posted, will you? - You got it.
Wow, this is quite a place, isn't it? Jack sure knows how to pick them, doesn't he? Well, listen, not much more to do here.
Let's get going.
Yeah, let me give Jack a call, let him know these guys are still on the loose.
What's the matter, what is it? Something's weird here.
- What? - I'm not sure.
You notice anything funny about that mirrored wall? Looks like an ordinary mirrored wall.
What are you thinking about? The way the ground floor is laid out, this room is about half the size it should be.
Pete! Rough landing.
You know, Mac, I'm going to miss my co-pilot.
Yeah, it's been an experience.
Not altogether unpleasant, I might add.
I don't know what I would have done without you guys.
Especially you, Jack.
- So where to for you and little Jack? - I don't know.
There's other jobs.
Other towns.
Oh, come on.
This is a great town to raise a kid in.
Clean air, botanical gardens, museums, dentists Jack, this little boy's going to need a family.
- Some family.
- Yeah, like uncles.
Lots of uncles.
- Three.
Three uncles.
- Yeah, somebody to take him fishing, - throw him a football - Yeah.
- Fly him to Panama.
- Yeah.
Let me give you a tour of Dalton Air.
They'll take care of him.
- I got him.
- You bet.
I got him.
- I got him.
- Forget about it.
- Sure you don't mind? - No way.
Say, maybe I'll even throw in dinner.
Just don't get me started on the mescal.
Mac, could I use your Jeep? My Caddy's in the shop.
- Yeah, keys are on the wall.
- Thanks.
It's okay, it's all right - See you later.
Thanks.
- Bye-bye.
Just the guys, huh, JJ? You know, I never thought of you as the paternal type.
Pete, this has nothing to do with fatherhood.
I happen to know talent when I see it.
How about a goal? Oh, yeah, yeah.
Here.
How's that? He's a rookie, open it up.
- The puck, the puck.
- Here.
- Face off at centre ice.
- Go get 'em, kid.
He shoots and he scores! Unbelievable! He's wide open! The future of amateur hockey in the United States!
