Growing up homeschooled in a Pastor's home, this is not anything I could have ever imagined.

Here to introduce that challenge is somebody who not so long ago stood right where all of you are standing now.
Please welcome Nick Nappi.
Oh my God! Welcome back.
Nick Nappi, I've been a fan of him since I saw him for the first time on season six.
He's super inspiring, an amazing chef.
And I love his style.

We've also heard that there's been another significant development going on in your life.

I'd like to introduce you to someone very special to me.
My fiancée, Jenelle.

When's the wedding? Well, uh, the wedding is It's tomorrow.
And guess who's doing the food? We are! We can tell that this competition is totally different than anything that we have ever seen.
The stakes are higher.
It's crazy.
A wedding? We just started! That's right.
For your first big team challenge, you'll be creating an incredible wedding feast.
Nick and Jenelle have some pretty firm ideas on the star proteins of their wedding dishes.
Let's start with the appetizer.
Well, seeing as though we do live in San Diego, we have some of the best seafood in the world, and we could not think of a better choice for our appetizer than scallops.
Oh, my gosh.
An expensive, elegant protein, but you overcook those scallops, and they wind up a rubbery mess.
Nick, tell us what you'd like for the main course.
We've picked my personal favorite protein, an incredible rack of lamb.
Again, another luxurious, delicious protein but really seriously tricky to cook.
It must be served a perfect medium rare.
Absolutely.
So tomorrow, you'll be divided into two teams.
Nathan and Terry, you two had the best two dishes in our previous challenge.
You will become team captains.
My concerns going into this challenge are that people aren't going to listen to me.
I've never been accepted a lot throughout childhood, and I just want to prove to everyone I have what it takes.
Tomorrow is a big one.

Our home cooks will now travel 20 miles from the MasterChef kitchen to Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, California to face their toughest challenge yet.

This setting is absolutely gorgeous.
There's hills and mountains, and everything's so pretty and green and lush.
It's a perfect setting for a wedding.
Welcome to your first ever MasterChef team challenge.
Beautiful! Nathan and Terry, are you ready to pick your teams? Yes, Chef! Have you thought about it? Yes, Chef.
Tough, because today you're not picking them.
Both of you, please come and stand here.
Nathan, you're the blue team.
Terry, you're the red team.
Now, here's how it's going to work.
I want you to stand on this side if you want to join Nathan's team.
If you want to be on Terry's team, I want you to jump on this side.
Nathan is definitely a wild card.
He's a 20 year old kid, and I'm leery of his leadership qualities.
On my count I think Terry is going to be a terrific captain.
He's got a very strong voice.
He's got experience.
He's been around a while.
He knows what he's doing.
One, two, three, move! Wow! Nathan, we have five with you.
Ouch! That's six versus 12.
There's five people on my side, and all I'm thinking is, "Oh my gosh.
This is just like getting picked for dodge ball in middle school," because no one wanted me then, and it definitely looks like nobody wants me now.
This is a wedding.
This challenge will be cooked by two even teams of nine.
Terry, listen very carefully.
You're gonna have to eject team members that you do not want and donate them back to Nathan's team so we end up with two even teams of nine.
This is gonna be an easy decision because some of my fellow cooks have strong personalities and very opinionated, and there could be problems.
The first person, unfortunately, I have to send D'Andre over.
Wow.
D'Andre.
Wow.
My next person would be Alejandro, even though I love him.
Alejandro.
Let's go back over.
Terry, next.
Unfortunately, I'm going to send Shaun over to the other team.
Yeah.
Shaun is a strong contender.
Shaun is an amazing home cook.
I would like Shaun on my team, but I also know that Shaun is a serious type A personality.
We are even.
Excited? Yes! Now, we will get feedback from all of the wedding guests today about your dishes, but ultimately the decision on which team wins will come down to Gordon and I.
There's one more thing you should all know.
After this challenge, for the first time in MasterChef history, there will be no pressure test.
Instead, some members of the losing team will face immediate elimination.
Oh, my God.
That means no redemption, no comeback if this challenge doesn't go your way.
You have just two hours to cater for this entire, very special wedding.

We're doing to do the sauce to go with the seared scallop.
I was thinking of beurre blanc.
What about like a citrus in with it? Everybody like orange or do you guys want to go with the lemon? - I prefer a lemon.

I know what being the team captain entails.
I'm open to suggestions and everybody's input.
Our lamb, sear it quickly in the pan.
Then we're going to put it on polenta.
What about an heirloom tomato gastrique with the polenta? That would be great.
I know that if we work together as a team, we can create something amazing.
For today's appetizer service, the red team has democratically decided to make pan seared scallops with asparagus and a lemon beurre blanc followed by a roasted lamb entrée with polenta and a tomato gastrique.

Let's do a blood orange vinaigrette with the scallops.

For the entrée, we're doing a seared lamb and pistachio gremolata.
All right, ready? An already fragmented blue team plans to serve an appetizer of pan roasted scallops, charred Romanesco, and a blood orange vinaigrette, followed by a pan seared lamb entrée with mushroom pea orzo and a pistachio gremolata.
Right, fascinating team selection there.
I mean, I didn't have any idea they'd all go towards Terry's team, did you? I mean, I had a little bit of an inkling.
I mean, Terry's got more experience.
He's older.
Terry, I need you to check out this consistency before I bottle.
It's fine, it's fine.
I trust you, Tanorria.
Nathan needs to step up and absolutely run his team or will his team run him? I mean, I think he will.
He grew up in a church community.
He knows how to be one of the team.
He needs to be unafraid to speak his mind.

He may be the youngest, but he knows he has a lot to prove.
I think we're decidedly going to have two very different team dynamics here today.

Today is all about timing and precision.
Chef Ramsey wants all of our appetizers cooked and served before the start of the speeches.
Make sure they're all uniform, right? And slice them on a bias, like this.
And that's at the reception in about 60 minutes.
The last thing I want to do is throw off the schedule for Nick and Jenelle's special day.

While the harmonious red team continues to prep their appetizers Hey! Listen to me, guys! I need that sauce! I'm straining it right now! I need it now! The blue team is struggling to tolerate Captain Nathan's leadership style.

Chef Ramsey has discovered a major problem with the blue team's scallop appetizer.
You can't cook them now.

We can't start the scallops until the last minute, Nathan.

And it doesn't look like it's happening.

As the power struggle between Nathan and Shaun threatens to completely derail the blue team This wind is going to be a problem.

The wind is gushing everywhere, and we're running into problems with the burners going out.
Right away I'm a little bit nervous that we're not gonna be able to get these plates out on time.
Hopefully, that'll block it back there.

Shaun, do not put them on the plate, Shaun! Nathan, they got to go on You're messing it up, though! There's little love on the blue team as the power struggle between Captain Nathan and Shaun comes to a head.

I know that the food is going to be scrumptious.

With service underway, the red team is off to a great start.

If we don't bring it up fast, we're definitely going to be facing elimination.

Hurry! Out in the reception area, Christina checks in with the bride and groom who are tasting both team's appetizers and giving feedback.
So, the red team, prepared seared scallops with a sauvignon beurre blanc pencil asparagus and a garden salad.
- Beautiful.
- The scallops have a great color.
They kept their shape.
The sauce here on the red was super elegant.
Yeah.
It's seasoned nicely.
It's got a great sear.
The asparagus is delicious.
Very nice scallops, guys.
And the blue team prepared seared scallops with a roasted Romanesco cauliflower and a blood orange vinaigrette.
The sear is nice.
It's a little bit under seasoned.
I mean, just a little touch of salt would be nice.

Like he said, it could use definitely more seasoning, a little bland.
I wasn't sure about the sweet too much.
I think that the red team's dish has a little bit more of who we are.

We heard Gordon and Christina on the other side yelling at the blue team, and they never really came and yelled at us.

We're gonna kill the lamb, all right? Red team, blue team, are we ready? Nathan and Yes, Chef! Your 60 minutes starts now! Get me those mushrooms right now, baby.
Both teams will now have just 60 minutes to prepare and cook 150 lamb entrées followed by only 20 minutes of service.
So blue team, they were completely flummoxed by the vinaigrette.
One mistake completely collapsed them.
It's come back time.
Everybody loves a comeback story.
If they cannot pull it together, one of them is going home.
D'Andre, do not overcook that.
It'll taste like baby food.
I understand.
I know how to cook orzo.
I make orzo all the time for my boyfriend at home, and this job is perfect for me.
We got this.
The red team had the appetizer nailed.
The scallops were beautiful.
They looked a little bit more cohesive as a team.
I agree.
They served all of their customers.
You got plenty of salt on them? Yeah.
I need some more, though.
The cook on the lamb is all about timing and all about finesse.
If these teams can get organized, they can do it.
But if they fall apart, it will be a disaster.

I'd like a little bit more.
Terry, how you feeling about this course? Oh, Chef.
I'm not feeling amazing about it yet.
I'm just worried about time.
I'm confident that I have a strong team.
But we also only have 60 minutes to get this lamb dish out.
We're starting to sear our lamb here, Chef, and sticking it into the oven.
That lamb needs to really be cooked through a nice medium rare.

It's a huge undertaking.
It takes a lot of knowledge on how to work the oven, how to work a hot box to make sure that it all comes out.
This is a whole other level of stress.
I want you to do nothing else now except make sure that the lamb is perfect.

As Captain Terry anxiously waits for the red team to execute their lamb dish Shaun, are we good? Yeah, baby.
the blue team's difficult road to redemption continues.

Blue team, the good news is, you look a lot more organized.

Okay? This challenge was one of the hardest things that I've probably ever done.
It's very high intense pressure because we got to do right by Nick and Jenelle.
So, I need to slow down, take a deep breath because I'm losing focus on the lamb.
These are all perfect.
Grab these before they get cold.
These are nice.
Service please, table three.
While the red team works to find consistency with the cook of their lamb Out at the reception, Christina is getting feedback from the newlyweds as they taste each team's lamb entrée.
The blue team prepared lamb, pea and mushroom orzo, a gremolata and a roasted cherry tomato.
I love the presentation of the blue dish.
Seasoning is wonderful.
It's cooked right.
The crust is delicious.
The orzo is a little under seasoned.
The lamb on the blue side is awesome.
Let's make every dish perfect.

So, the red team prepared crusted rosemary and garlic lamb with some garlic polenta and tomato gastrique.
I could have used a little more crust.

Katrina, what did you think about the red team's lamb? You know what? Their gastrique was fantastic.
It was actually very impressive.
I was kind of disappointed in the lamb.
It was a beautifully frenched rack, right? Yeah.
But they didn't do anything to it.
Make sure you check those tops.

- They got to all be perfect.
Considering the scallop that I got earlier, I think my meat is definitely winning me over.

Out of all five of us facing elimination from the blue team, we all made mistakes, but we were all working our asses off the whole time.
I've never been in the bottom of anything before.
I'm very, very competitive, and I usually win.
And so this feels really crappy.

For your first big team challenge, you got to cater for an entire wedding.
Both teams over the course of that wedding reception had their ups and their downs.
But it was the red team that was victorious yesterday.
Blue team, some of you definitely did show you have potential to take home the title.
Others, not so much.
And based on those performances, we decided to save Katie, Alejandro, Shaun and team captain, Nathan.

Across that challenge, your performance was somewhat lackluster.
But Christina and I feel that you three did more than the two standing behind you.

Barbara, we hadn't even sat the congregation down, and you were roasting scallops.
And if there's one thing that doesn't hold is a scallop.
I made a mistake.
D'Andre's made mistakes in every challenge.
He has great ideas and poor execution.
I just don't think that I deserve to be eliminated yet.
D'Andre, that orzo was lackluster.
We pulled it back.
We served it.
But I expect more.

If I get sent home, I want it to be because I went head to head with somebody else, and they took me out.
I want it to be because I lost in the finale, not because of something like this.
