Mistresses (US) s04e06 Episode Script

What Happens in Vegas

1 After my friend passed away and her husband moved, I wrote a book that ended up bringing me back to life.
Previously on "Mistresses" A year ago, it was it was the scariest night of my life.
I honestly thought I was gonna die.
You've got to lighten up, man.
We are opening a restaurant.
It's supposed to be fun.
I met the most gorgeous man I've ever seen in my entire life at a taco truck.
[Cellphone rings.]
Hi.
When you land, call me.
- She gets it, April.
- Thank you.
Marc: She's in ninth grade.
She's got three more years of high school.
But it's there, right in front of me A big fat nest of emptiness.
[Sighs.]
What the hell are you doing here? [Sighs.]
Oh, my God.
[Chuckles.]
- Hello, Karen.
- [Sighs.]
She's so beautiful.
She's 4 months today.
[Sighs.]
- I've missed so much.
- You've missed everything.
It was just too hard for me without Vivian.
If I recall, you said you couldn't stay because of what people might think, that you'd been cheating on your dying wife with me, and that's how we ended up with our daughter.
In hindsight, it was a mistake, and I'm so sorry.
What are you doing here? What happened to Costa Rica? Uh, Doctors Without Borders gave me a week off for an interview.
I'm on the short list for the chief of cardiothoracic surgery at UCLA.
- Why didn't you tell me? - [Scoffs.]
Let's face it we haven't exactly been great on the phone.
And when I read about how much pain I had caused you - You read my book? - Hey, I get it.
- We all deal in our own way.
- [Vivian fusses.]
We have so much to talk about, and I am running on fumes.
Please, can I take you to dinner tomorrow night? Sure.
On the early side For the baby.
Of course.
It's so good to see you, Karen.
I've missed you.
Good night, Karen.
Good night.
[Sighs.]
Transgender? Really? I know.
I was pretty surprised, as well.
So that's the whole story? He's transgender? Did Did something else happen? No, no.
The story is, I was surprised, obviously.
And when I saw him the next night, he thought I said something insensitive and fired me.
Oh, no.
[Sighs.]
What did you say? Nothing.
I just said that even if I wasn't with Marc, I could never be attracted to him because he was, you know, born a woman.
Was that so bad? - Well, it wasn't great.
- Why? That's how I feel.
And your feelings are valid, but maybe you should have kept some of them to yourself.
Okay, let me remind everyone that he knew I was in a relationship.
He was my boss, and he kissed me.
- She makes a good point.
- Whatever.
It's over.
We parted ways.
Moving on.
Speaking of which, I should get back to work.
So [Sighs.]
Alec is back.
What?! Why didn't you tell us? April was talking about her issues with people who are transgender.
I do not Never mind.
So, how was it? How did you feel? It felt strange.
And I can't be too sure, but what if he wants to pick up where we left off? - Did he say that? - Not in words.
It was more in his hug.
Oh, yeah.
Well, Alec's not a hugger.
He's too tall.
Exactly my point.
But let's say he does want to get back together.
- Would you be into it? - I don't know.
I haven't let myself think about it because I've been so mad.
And I didn't think it was really an option.
It shouldn't be.
Alec had his chance.
But Alec is Vivian's dad, and if he's truly sorry and you can forgive him, keeping the family together could be a good thing.
RANDY: You went out with a married guy? He's actually separated.
You do realize that separated means they're still married? [Sighs.]
I answered the call in a moment of weakness.
Now that I've gone out with him, there's this undeniable connection.
We both love the same cheesy romantic movies, and the sex was mind-blowing.
Ah.
That's why you're smitten.
It's the oxytocin.
[Chuckles.]
The oxy-what? - Is it a gay thing? - No! It's a woman thing.
The hormone that makes women fall in love after sex.
That's what you're feeling, not true love.
Mm.
I guess that does make sense.
It's not like we know each other so well.
[Scoffs.]
Really, what am I doing? I shouldn't be pursuing this, anyway.
I don't want to be the girl who waits around for the guy to leave his wife.
[Sighs.]
Amen to that, sister.
You're right.
No more texts or calls.
Great.
Time to start thinking with your head and not your hoo-ha.
Fantastic.
Mm-hmm.
Yes, thank you.
Guess where we're going tomorrow.
- Las Vegas.
- Uh, no.
I got us an appointment to see a potential wedding venue - The Calamigos Ranch.
- Oh, that sounds spectacular.
But actually, I was serious.
Jonathan's sending us to Vegas for a behind-the-scenes tour of his hotel and restaurants there this weekend, - and it's all comped.
All comped.
- What?! You want to come, right? Are you serious right now? Yes.
Okay, yeah.
I'm in.
- Whoa-ho! - I'll move our appointment.
- Phew! Fantastic.
- [Both laugh.]
I thought I was gonna be all alone in this huge suite and have to get a lady of the night for company.
Oh, baby, honey, the only lady of the night you're ever getting is me, - and I'm very expensive.
- Mm.
I like expensive things.
[Laughs.]
Okay, our flight leaves in four hours.
We should pack.
Okay, um, I will pack fast, but I just have to run a few, um, errands.
Okay.
I'll meet you back here before 2:00.
Okay.
I don't want to go.
Please don't make me.
Where is this coming from? You've always had a good time at the church fundraisers.
That's before I thought about what the church really represents.
Most of the world's atrocities are committed under the name of religion.
I just can't support that with brownies.
- Is that so? - Yes.
Plus, I'm supposed to be studying at Noel's that day for our next debate.
So you're going to Noel's? - When were you gonna let me know? - I just did.
His parents are gonna be there.
You can call them.
Oh, I will.
But you're still going to the fundraiser.
[Sighs.]
Please, Mom! It's so boring.
And I'd only be going because you want me to.
- Do you really want that? - Yes.
Your religion is important.
- Whatever.
- Where are you off to now? To pray that my mom won't be so mean to me.
And here are the emergency numbers and some takeout menus so you don't go hungry.
I'm 35 years old, Harry.
I think I can take care of myself.
Then I guess you don't want the lobster roll I made for you.
Ooh! Thank God.
I forgot to eat today.
Mmm.
What's this? Your boyfriend Jonathan buy you a new present? [Laughs.]
That's very funny.
I found it on the doorstep, smarty-pants.
It's for you.
Are you dating someone now? Not really.
Not anymore.
Well, this guy clearly thinks you're still dating.
"Love Story.
" [Laughs.]
Wow.
"Splash"? Seriously? Yes, seriously.
[Giggles.]
Shake it up, baby, don't give me no maybe [Door closes.]
Bring it downtown, bring it underground Hotter than hotness, sweeter than sweetness Give me that goody, goody, goodness Talk the talk, walk the walk Show me what you got, show me, show me what you got Talk the talk, walk the walk Oh, Scott.
[Moans.]
[Both sigh.]
This.
.
was - Amazing.
- Yeah.
I've got that fever for you I, I, I need you more I've got that fever for you JACKIE: Everybody, can you gather around for a second? I got some bad news last night.
Our friend Marisol is in the hospital.
Her ex-boyfriend broke the restraining order and attacked her.
She's gonna be out of commission for a while.
I know that this is disturbing.
[Groaning.]
Joss? You okay? Yeah, y-yeah.
[Groans.]
It's just It's shocking.
Marisol she's so tough.
Well, her ex-boyfriend's in the hospital, too.
This class will protect you, but not against everything.
And it's times like this that we have to band together even more.
I want you all to wear one of these, just as a reminder of what Marisol is going through, why you're here, and how it's helping.
Thanks.
Joss, I know you may not want to talk about what's going on with you, but just know that you always can.
Okay? [Indistinct conversations.]
Mm.
Uh, hello, Lucy.
How are you? I see you eating the church brownies.
- Don't even try to front.
- Please don't tell your mom.
Why? Because she's a dictator? [Laughs.]
I wouldn't go that far.
I would.
She's like Mussolini in a maxi dress.
Okay, I'm guessing this is not about me eating the church brownies.
Which I'm not admitting to, by the way.
[Grunts.]
So spill.
Okay.
I don't understand why I have to go to this fundraiser.
And the more I think about it, I don't know why I have to go to church period.
- I mean, you never go.
- Well, first of all, I'm an adult, which means I get to make my own decisions, and I have gone to church.
I just prefer a spiritual life without it, which is my prerogative as an adult.
- You have chocolate on your face.
- I do? I get it? Hmm? Look, you should feel lucky that your mom cares enough to force you to go to church.
It's more than my parents ever did for me.
[Sighs.]
Sometimes it feels more controlling than caring.
Will you at least talk to her for me, just to see if there's any room for negotiation? Yeah, I don't know.
Usually, when your mom makes up her mind, she sticks with it.
Yeah, I get that.
But I'll tell her you ate four brownies if you don't.
I only had two.
Okay.
Okay.
Fine.
I'll talk to her.
Leaving as we speak.
Oh! My gorgeous fiancée has just walked through the door.
- Mm.
- You bet.
Okay, we'll see you tonight.
That was Jonathan's nephew Reza.
He manages the hotel and is getting us V.
I.
P.
access - to all of their clubs, baby.
- Mm! Great.
- Wow.
You okay? - Yeah.
Yeah, well, we don't have to go to the clubs.
We can just stay in the suite, order room service.
Actually, that sounds better.
No, no, no.
I'm good, I'm good.
I just think I'm really looking forward - to getting out of town.
- Okay.
I'll pack the car, then we go.
- Okay.
Uh-huh.
- Let's go, baby! - Hey.
- Hey! Huh.
Someone's having a very good day.
Text flirting is so fun.
Brian never liked it.
Does this mean you're online-dating again? Actually, I met this guy at that killer taco truck you told me about, - so muchas gracias.
- De nada.
Does this mystery man have a name? HARRY: Okay.
[Claps.]
Girl talk has ended.
We have got a flight to catch to Vegas, Vegas, Vegas.
Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh.
- Don't burn down the house.
- [Chuckles.]
I want to hear all about him when we get back.
- You will, you will, you will.
- Okay.
- Bye.
- Bye.
[Door closes.]
[Mid-tempo music plays.]
Whoa, whoa, hey! I'm working on my new song.
That sounded like the new Coldplay song.
Well, there are only so many chords.
Did you tell Lucy that you agree she shouldn't have to go to church anymore? I only told her that I would talk to you about it on her behalf Which, apparently, she already did on my behalf.
Uh, okay, okay.
So she's just trying to play us against each other.
Oh, she's treating me like a real dad! This is so sweet.
[Chuckles.]
Yeah, great.
Touching.
Too bad there's nothing to discuss.
Yeah, but, you know, just hang on, hang on.
Just Just to play devil's advocate here, now that Lucy's getting a little bit older, shouldn't she be making - more of her own decisions? - Come again? Obviously, she should keep going to church every Sunday.
But maybe she could skip the fundraiser? The fundraiser is just as important.
It's how the church raises funds.
[Scoffs.]
Yeah.
Look, I didn't want to go to church, either, when I was Lucy's age, but I'm glad my mom made me.
It's given me a place to turn whenever I felt lost.
Which is great for you.
And I'm sure that Lucy will come to that, too.
But I've also heard enough A.
A.
horror stories to know that authoritarian parenting can really backfire.
If you push too hard, Lucy could rebel.
I am hardly authoritarian.
I know what I'm doing with my daughter, much more than you do.
[Sighs.]
[Door opens.]
[Door closes.]
Joss: Shut the front door! Look at this place.
Oooookay.
This is how you do Vegas.
I feel like I'm in "Ocean's Eleven.
" Which would obviously make me George Clooney.
Mmmmm I'm not sure I'd go with "obviously.
" - [Laughs.]
- Wow.
Right? Ah, look at this.
This is a complimentary couple's massage at the spa and gift certificates to spend at the shops.
Wow.
This guy went all-out.
"A little something to play with.
" Oh.
What does that mean? [Laughs.]
[Gasps.]
Are you freakin' kidding me? No, that can't be real.
Wow.
That is There has to be 5 grand here.
No.
Stop it.
That's like pretend money.
Yeah, it is to Jonathan.
I guess now it's ours to play with, huh? - Unh-unh-unh-unh-unh-unh! No, no, no.
- What? No! Does that mean if we lose it, we have to pay it back? No, Joss, come on.
It's a gift.
But, Harry, it's just a little bit much.
First, a motorcycle, and then $5k just because? It's excessive.
Honey, no strings attached? I don't buy it.
No, no strings.
That's what's so great about it.
Joss, listen, after all that nickel-and-diming that bloody cheapskate Ellis put me through, this is the universe making amends, baby.
And if it's a little more amends than is needed, who's complaining? Okay.
I cannot believe how good things are going for us right now.
Ohhhhhhh.
Me neither.
- We need to toast.
- Okay.
- To us.
- Yes, yes, yes.
To us.
- Cheers.
- Cheers.
Mmm.
- Oh - What's this? Um, it's It's just to remember what's important in life Like you and us.
Mm.
Whoa, whoa.
[Gasps.]
I just had an idea.
Let's get married tonight.
- Tonight? - Yeah.
- Really? - Yeah.
I mean, come on.
We're not gonna have a hard time finding a chapel.
[Chuckles.]
Wait.
You're actually being serious.
100%.
Look, you just said it.
Everything's going so good in our life.
Doesn't it just feel right, honey? That absolutely does.
- No! - [Laughing.]
Yes.
- Yes? Viva Las Vegas, baby! - Yes.
[Laughs.]
- [Laughs.]
- [Sighs.]
She would have loved the baby.
[Vivian cooing.]
I think about that every day.
How are you really, Karen? Are you seeing anyone? Between the baby and work, there hasn't been time.
Why do you ask? Because I care about you.
Being back, I realized I want to be involved in Vivian's life.
I want her to know the stability of a traditional family.
"Traditional" can have many meanings.
My parents separated for a time when I was a kid.
I don't think I ever really got over it.
[Inhales deeply.]
Which brings me to what I want to talk to you about.
[Sighs.]
Oh, please don't.
Oh, I'm flattered, and I get why you think this is the right thing.
And maybe it will be eventually, but I'm really not in the right head space for you to propose.
Oh, God.
[Chuckling.]
Hi.
You must be Karen.
- Sorry I'm late.
- [Clears throat.]
Have we met? Karen, this is Faith my wife.
[Indistinct conversations.]
I'm really happy to meet you, Karen.
Alec's told me so much about you.
I wish I could say the same.
You know what? That's That's actually my fault.
He wanted to tell you, but I told him he should wait and do it in person.
I wouldn't want news like this sprung on me from half a world away.
- So you met in Costa Rica? - Mm-hmm.
Faith is with Doctors Without Borders, too.
- [Chuckles.]
- Oh.
My cabin became infested with bullet ants, and, uh, Alec said I could share his cabin for a few days, and a few days became a month, and a month turned in So, how long have you been married? - Six months.
- Wow.
[Laughing.]
Yeah.
[Chuckling.]
I don't know what to say, except - congratulations? - Thank you.
Mm.
You know, the universe works in such mysterious ways.
You told Alec to leave, and he found his way to me.
- [Vivian crying.]
- Oh.
Uh, may I? Alec told me she's been colicky.
I have a trick I think may work.
Loud, ambient noise like restaurants can aggravate the colic.
Calming music can give her something else to focus on.
[Cellphone beeps.]
[Lullaby plays.]
I've done that before, too.
Mm-hmm.
You've been giving her protein hydrolysate formula? It's just something else to consider.
[Alec sighs, chuckles.]
Faith's a pediatrician.
So you can rest assured she's gonna be in very good hands when she comes to stay with us.
Comes to stay with you? Uh, we were hoping to get some alone time with her this weekend.
[Sighs.]
I think that can be arranged.
You're so rarely in town.
- [Chuckles.]
- Actually, um I got the offer.
- [Chuckles.]
- We're moving back here.
[Scoffs.]
Only 45 minutes until we are Mr.
and Mrs.
Carver Davis.
Once we're hitched, we really need to synchronize our watches, baby.
Okay.
[Chuckles.]
- Cheers.
- Okay.
- To our very generous host, Reza.
- Yes.
Well, my uncle says you're one of the best chefs he's ever met.
Can't wait to work with you.
- Oh, you work in L.
A.
? - Mnh.
I mean when Harry opens his second restaurant here in Vegas.
[Clears throat.]
Second? Shouldn't we wait until I open the first one? Well, my uncle has a feeling you'll be here soon enough.
You know him always thinking about the future.
Speaking of which, he made plans for all of us this evening Front-row tickets to the new Cirque.
Ah, wow, that sounds like We'd love to.
Great.
I'll call the driver.
[Laughs.]
But what about our upcoming nuptials? Listen to me.
This is your business, okay? It would be bad form to turn down the invitation.
- Really? - Yeah.
You're sure you're okay with this? Only if you promise we get married tomorrow night.
- I'll send you a "Save the Date.
" - Mm.
I'm so proud of you.
Why do I keep offending people? First, Michael, now Lucy and Marc.
Because you have strong opinions.
See, that sounds very close to when Marc called me "authoritarian.
" Let me ask you, why is it so important that Lucy goes to church? At the most basic level, spiritual guidance.
But what if she's not open to that right now? She's 14 years old.
She doesn't always know what's good for her.
Plus, it's one of the few things Lucy and I still get to do together.
Oh, I get it.
So this is all really about your fear of losing her.
I mean Hey, wait.
Don't psychoanalyze me.
How was your dinner with Alec? Is he interested in starting things back up again? Considering he introduced me to his wife, I'm gonna say no.
- Alec is married? - Yep.
And he brought her to dinner? She showed up halfway through, as a surprise.
And get this He told her that I asked him to leave me and the baby.
- What?! That's crazy! - What was he thinking, marrying a woman he barely knows after a 20-year marriage? I'm offended on behalf of Vivian.
As you should be.
He was so distraught, he had to go to Costa Rica, but not distraught enough to stop him from marrying some 30-year-old pediatrician.
Well, if she's a pediatrician, that could be helpful.
Not the point.
The point is, Alec decided to move back, and he and Faith want to take the baby for the weekend.
What am I gonna do? Okay, first of all, you have every right to be angry.
But Alec is Vivian's father, and if he's moving back, he's gonna be a part of both your lives.
Okay, just don't ask for trouble.
Be cool and just work this out as calmly as possible.
Mm.
You are such a good cuddler.
Well, what can I say? You inspire me.
In fact, you know what? Hell with it.
I'm gonna take the rest of the day off so we can continue to do this.
Mm! What is this? Are you going on vacation or something? [Groans.]
No, no.
- I'm actually the house sitter.
- Oh.
I wish I could afford a place like this.
[Cellphone ringing.]
Oh.
Hell no.
Nope.
Mm.
Was that your wife? No.
No.
It was work.
But I'm taking the day off, remember? Okay.
M-My marriage was a mistake, all right? I rushed into it after another relationship went bad.
But now I feel like I can finally breathe again, you know.
Especially here with you.
We had an amazing morning, right? Can we not talk about it? - Let's not talk at all.
- Mm.
Mm.
Big day, mate.
We are getting married.
Ah.
Congratulations.
I've never heard that before.
- Tip included? - Uh, no.
Great.
Thanks.
Okay.
Wakey, wakey, baby.
- Oh! - Breakfast is served.
We have the caviar, eggs Benedict, and toast with some champagne jelly.
Voilà.
- Oh, my God! - [Laughs.]
- Is that real gold leaf? - Oh, yeah, honey.
The most expensive breakfast on the menu for nothing.
Okay.
Um, honey, while I appreciate the thought, this is this is officially too much.
Oh, yeah, I grant you, it is outrageous, but I am just letting myself enjoy it, especially since it's comped.
Yeah.
Um, listen, honey.
- Hmm? - I'm just, I'm just a little worried you're gonna lose touch with reality.
I've seen you make money before, but this time, it's different.
Yeah, it is different, because I'm enjoying it more.
You know, I'm not I'm not stressing out.
You know what, babe? Kate and I did not have a lot growing up, so why not live in the moment? Okay.
So it's wish fulfillment.
- [Both laugh.]
- Hey, everything on this bed is more than I could have ever wished for.
Honey.
- [Chuckles.]
- Okay, okay.
If you put it like that, by all means, then let's dig in.
All righty.
Oh, you know what? One second.
I want to get a photo and send it to Kate.
Oh, okay.
- Grab your eggs.
- Grab the eggs.
The eggs are the most important thing.
- Oh, yeah.
- [Camera shutter clicks.]
Oh, that's good.
Right.
Yep.
That's the stuff.
- What?! [Gasps.]
- Gorgeous.
- [Cellphone chimes.]
- Mm.
Do you need to get that? [Sighs.]
[Cellphone chimes.]
[Laughs.]
No, it's just my future sister-in-law being silly with her eggs Benedict.
I don't want to know what that means, but I am, all of a sudden, starving.
Well, we have been burning a lot of calories.
Hmm.
- I'll get us something.
- Nope.
You stay right there.
- Aah! - [Laughs.]
[Laughs.]
Thing is, I, uh turns out I do have to run into work.
So, uh, just grab all of this, and you take care, and, um Where are you going? Scott? [Door opens, closes.]
[Groans.]
She usually naps around 3:00 and is always in a terrible mood when she wakes up.
Faith wanted me to ask if you are pro- or anti-pacifier.
She didn't want to give Vivian one unless you're okay with it.
I'm okay with it.
Where is Faith, by the way? Oh, I thought it best if I came alone.
I realized we kind of ambushed you last night.
Oh, that's okay.
I'm not sure there would have been an easy way to do that.
Thank you for being so gracious about this.
Of course.
Although, I was wondering if we can start with you taking the baby one night and then build up to a full weekend.
It's just that I've never been away from her so long, and That sounds perfectly reasonable.
Look at us, doing this like adults.
It actually works out well because I'm interviewing potential full-time nannies later on today.
Why? - Why what? - Why do you need a new fulltime nanny? Because the last one left.
And in addition to being a mommy, I've got my practice, and I'm writing a second book.
But now that I'm moving back, is that really necessary? To be fair, I only found out you're moving back yesterday.
I'd just rather not have our child raised by a stranger.
Why don't I push the interviews to tomorrow so that you can meet them, too? That way, they won't be strangers.
All right.
I'd appreciate that.
I can't, I can't, I can't I can't find my friends But I don't need, don't need, don't need, Don't need them to dance I go Whoo-hoo, whoo-hoo! Let me hear you go Whoo-hoo, whoo-hoo! Uh, we'll take it.
Yeah.
Oh, see you soon.
Bye.
[Chuckles.]
- [Sighs.]
- Your fiancé just got recognized by a couple of the SVPs at Wynn.
Oh.
I hope you chased them away.
- You know I did.
- [Both laugh.]
- Harry: How are you? - I'm okay.
Uh, didn't realize what time it was.
- If you'll excuse us - Of course.
Cheers, mate.
- Hey, thank you.
- [Chuckles.]
Uh, okay, okay, okay.
If you could have any fake celebrity officiate our wedding, - who would it be? - Robert De Niro.
- Really? - Yeah.
Honey, that seems weird.
Anyway, I got us Charo.
- Well, who the hell is Charo? - You don't know who Charo is? She's Charo.
Whatever.
Our Our wedding is officially in T-minus two hours.
- Brilliant.
- [Laughs.]
- You feeling lucky? - I'm marrying you, aren't I? - [Both laugh.]
- Blow on them for good luck.
- [Blows.]
- Okay.
- Come on! - Yeah, baby! [All cheer.]
How about that? Whoo-hoo-hoo! Well, this is fun.
Maybe I should get my cellphone.
Sorry.
I'm just checking in on Alec and the baby.
She's been very fussy lately.
Isn't his new wife a pediatrician? We should change the subject.
Kate, what's going on with you? You know Same old, same old.
Nothing new at all? Well nothing compared to what poor Randy's going through.
What's going on with Randy? You can never tell him I told you this, but Randy's seeing a married man.
Randy's gay? What? I don't stereotype.
Anyway, earlier today, they were having a great morning, and the married guy was gonna take the day off.
But then, out of nowhere, he actually does need to go to work, and "Take care" practically runs out the door.
Can you explain that? Are you asking for advice? I'm asking to help Randy.
He's terribly upset.
Well, you might suggest that he stays away - from married men in general.
- But that's the thing.
Randy's guy is technically separated, and Randy wouldn't be pursuing this at all if he didn't think it was actually going somewhere.
Has Randy called him? Yes, but the guy's unreachable.
Well, if he really wants to continue this relationship, maybe he should go talk to the guy and ask what happened.
Yeah.
- Yeah, you're probably right.
- Just know you may not like the answer.
You mean Randy may not like the answer.
Right.
Randy.
Harry: Whoo! [All cheering.]
We're killing it! Honey, maybe we should cash out while we're still ahead.
Cashing out is for pansies.
[Laughs.]
Oh, you look like you belong on a Roman coin.
You're like a young Caesar.
- Hey! Hey! Uh, he's taken.
- [Laughs.]
Okay, baby, give me an 11.
Let's go.
Let's have it.
No, no.
Ooh! - Wow! - Oh, my God! [All cheer, cellphone chiming.]
Honey, okay.
Well, look, sweetie, we really have to go now if we want to change clothes before the chapel.
Babe, I'm on such a roll.
Just one more game, okay? Uh okay.
Um, I'll go up and change.
But when I come back down, we are getting married.
- Okay.
- I don't care how hot your streak is.
- You've got it, babe.
- Take your time.
Ooh, can I blow on those for you? Huh? How can I say no? Here we go.
- [All cheering.]
- [Laughs.]
[Car alarm chirps.]
I'm tired of just hiding away What are you doing here? I know this is bold.
Probably foolish.
But this is something that would happen on a cheesy romantic movie, so I'm going for it.
What happened this morning? I didn't want to have to get into it.
Is it because I asked you about your wife? No.
No, not at all.
You've been nothing but wonderful.
Then why? Why? Everything was fine, and then you just How do you know Harry Davis? Harry? He's my brother.
Why? I'm Joss' ex.
You're Joss' ex Fiancé, yeah.
The guy who was screwed over to be with my Brother.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You didn't know any of this? No! Of course not! How would I know? Yeah, I don't know.
What are we gonna do? It's messy.
You know, I've already made so many bad decisions.
I can't [Sniffles.]
I can't make another one.
It's just It's for the best.
Yeah.
I guess.
I guess it would just reopen old wounds for them and and be impossible for us.
Impossible.
Yeah.
This has to be goodbye, right? Hey.
I'm sorry.
[Voice breaking.]
I'm sorry, too.
Goodbye, Scott.
[Engine starts.]
[Elevator bell dings.]
[Grunting.]
Woman: Leave me alone! Man: I said get back inside! [Grunting.]
- Hey, what's going on? - Don't worry about it! It seems like she wants to leave.
O-Okay, Reza, let's just calm down.
Why don't you calm down and mind your own business? Please! Don't leave me with him! Hey, hey, hey, hey! Enough! I told you to mind your own business, bitch! [Gasping.]
[Gasps.]
[Grunting.]
[Screams.]
[Indistinct conversations.]
Harry: [Laughing.]
Oh, no, it's crazy.
All right.
Really?! You're serious? That That would be amazing.
That would be incredible.
Thank you.
[Sighs.]
Oh, we will.
Okay, see you when we get back.
Uh, that was Jonathan.
I may have let slip that we're eloping, so he's giving us the penthouse honeymoon suite tonight.
- Oh.
- What? Are you okay? - You're mad that I told him? - No.
No, no, no, no, no.
Um you know what I think? Honey, I think I just went upstairs, and I-I got a little bit upset.
It's stupid, but just because Kate and and and Karen and April aren't here, it doesn't feel right to get married.
- Really? - Yeah.
- What? You were so excited? - Yeah, I'm still I'm so excited.
I-I just think that friends and family should be a part of it.
Don't you? Yeah.
You know what? You're absolutely right.
Yeah.
We'll do it at the ranch.
It'll be beautiful.
What about Charo? Charo will be okay.
- Really? - Mm-hmm.
[Laughs.]
Okay, well, I-I suppose we should - just keep gambling, then, huh? - Sure.
Seems like the right thing to do.
Okay, come on.
Let's go, baby.
Give me something.
- Oh! - [All cheering.]
- [Door closes.]
- Hey.
Lucy said you made dinner and helped her with her homework.
- Thanks for doing that.
- Mm.
- I'm trying to apologize.
- [Sighs.]
That's funny, 'cause I didn't hear an actual apology.
I am sorry for being short with you.
Short? You basically said I was an idiot when it comes to parenting.
I didn't say that.
That's not what I meant.
Well, that's how it sounded.
And I've been giving it some thought.
I want to have more of a say in how we raise Lucy.
I agree.
Great.
So the church thing.
The church thing is non-negotiable.
Okay, so you don't really agree.
How are we supposed to co-parent if you won't even consider another point of view? I see your point of view.
Church isn't important to you, but it is important to me and something I want for Lucy.
[Scoffs.]
I'm not asking you to go to church or change your values, just like you shouldn't ask me to change mine.
So, can we please present a united front? I'll give it a shot.
That's all I ask.
You hungry? Starving.
- [Helicopter blades whirring.]
- You have to go! I love you, Madison.
Go.
[Sobs.]
Go! [Sobbing.]
Have you ever been convicted of a crime? I got a speeding ticket once.
It says here you know infant CPR.
Yeah.
I took the class every year, just to stay up to date.
That's actually how I know Robert.
- Who's Robert? - Wasn't he your former nanny? Mm-hmm.
- You had a male nanny? - Yes, and he was excellent.
If he was so excellent, why is he no longer working for you? Did something happen? - Did he hurt Vivian? - No! It was just his time to move on.
[Sighs.]
I can tell when you're keeping something from me, Karen.
You tap your left foot.
Alec, can we please continue? Not until you tell me what happened.
If we're gonna hire a nanny, she has to come from a reputable referral.
- Robert is reputable.
- How do you know that? - Because I was dating him.
- You were dating the nanny? Yes I mean, technically, not until I fired him.
Oh.
So until then, you were just sleeping with him.
- That's none of your business.
- And who was watching Vivian while you were having sex in the bedroom with the nanny? - Should I go? - Yes! No.
You get out.
[Sighs.]
[Door opens, closes.]
So, when can you start? And when he slammed her into that wall, I just I snapped.
Completely understandable.
You've been thinking about Marisol, and you wanted to protect this girl from the same fate.
That was part of it, but it was more than that, you know? W-When he shoved me, I had this this flash, you know, like, from the the whole thing, that night with Wilson.
And I-I just I felt all this rage, Jackie.
I'm sorry.
I-I feel like this class was supposed to help me deal with my anger, but I really I don't think it is.
I lost control.
Actually, you took control.
You could have been paralyzed with fear, but instead, you took action.
Yeah, but I-I-I think I went too far, you know? And I kept it from Harry, who's Who's gonna find out now anyway.
- How? - Because the freaking guy that I beat up is his business partner's nephew.
He's not gonna say anything.
Men don't tell when they get their ass kicked by a woman.
They're too ashamed.
If you ask me, you should be proud of yourself.
You did the right thing, Joss.
I'm very proud of you.
I can't believe you're doing this.
I thought you'd be on my side.
It's not about sides, Lucy.
You're supposed to convince her I shouldn't have to go! No, I said I'd talk to her.
And your mom and I decided this is what's best for you.
But do you actually think that, or did she bully you into it? I actually think it's for the best.
[Sighs.]
Great.
Two dictators.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
- [Sighs.]
- Hey.
[Both sigh.]
- Thanks for sticking to the script.
- Yeah, sure.
- Are you sure you don't want to come? - Yeah.
No, I'm I'm I'm good.
You have a nice time.
You too.
[Door closes.]
- [Knock on door.]
- Oh.
Are you Karen Kim? Yes.
You've just been served.
[Gasps.]
- Karen.
- I need to speak to Alec.
He'll be right here.
- I'd invite you in, but I - I don't want to come in.
[Sighs.]
It's okay.
What the hell is this? You're suing for full custody? And supervised visitation? Are you out of your freaking mind?! I'm not the one who slept with my child's nanny and wrote a book about all the sexual things that I've done - for all the world to see.
- So this is about my book? This is about you living in a morally questionable universe that isn't appropriate to raise a child in.
But yes I found your book exploitive and disturbing.
- Faith and I both did.
- [Sighs.]
What's gonna happen when Vivian grows up and reads it? What's she gonna think of her mother? She'll be glad to know that she's been raised by a self-aware truth-teller.
When you're bothering to be there and not handing her off to some nanny.
Mothers rely on nannies all over the world! Out of necessity, not when there's another set of parents willing and able to care for the child.
You and Faith are both doctors.
You'll be just as busy as I am! Faith's not going back to work.
She's gonna stay home.
We're gonna have more children.
Faith's not Vivian's mother.
Maybe not.
But I am Vivian's father, and she is my wife, and she knows the proper way to care for and raise a child.
And I don't? Come on.
[Scoffs.]
Why hold back now? [Sighs.]
Faith just seems more comfortable with Vivian inherently.
Not every woman has the maternal gene.
Oh.
I've got the gene, all right.
And now you're gonna see me fight for my child.
I'm going to destroy you in court.
I hoped we could be civil, but you just messed with the wrong mother.
