New Chances, New Choices

1 A lot has happened in the last few months.
I had my heart set on going to law school.
Welcome to Pepperdine.
Thank you.
But in the end, it wasn't meant to be.
Kerry's career hasn't exactly taken off the way we keep hoping.
I mean, he's trying.
Give me a call.
Work something out.
But the way things are, we can't really afford law school.
I've got one more resolution.
Bryant and Alisa hooked up on New Year's Eve.
Even though Bryant's been on tour a lot, things seem to be working out for now.
I just wanted to apologize to you.
Alexandra and I ironed out our differences.
We need to hang out.
Oh, my god! Let's go! Let's do it! She just tells it like it is.
And I think I really need that in my life right now.
You are the new Miss Tennessee USA.
Now that she's actually Miss Tennessee, she's completely obsessed with becoming Miss USA.
But unfortunately, her cousin and go-to trainer, Jackson, is a little distracted.
After Jackson totally blew it with Jessica Are you saying we can't be friends anymore? Yeah.
It's your music career.
It's your love life.
and his relationship with Savannah came to an explosive end Are y'all in a fight? Jackson has fallen for a new girl, Baylee.
I love you.
I love you so much.
And they are spending a lot of time together.
And Jessica, she recently surprised us with some huge news.
After things fizzled out between her and Jackson, she met someone new.
His name is Dre.
And after dating for only seven months I'm engaged! She's engaged! Jessica finally got what she always wanted.
Yep, she's rushing into a marriage with a guy she met seven months ago.
After waiting 30 years, we all hope she's right.
But I guess everyone's taking chances.
Alisa is breaking her no-musicians rule for Bryant.
Alexandra is counting on love-struck Jackson to help her win Miss USA.
But Baylee may be stealing her spotlight.
And Kerry and I need to answer the most burning question of all.
The beat of my own.
Marching to the beat of my own drum.
Do we really belong together? This is already hurting my What is this supposed to work out? Your hamstrings.
Oh.
Does that give you a bigger butt? No.
Oh.
Yeah.
Thanks, y'all again, for throwing the engagement party.
That was super fun.
I just can't believe you're getting married.
I know! Literally yesterday you were like, I just can't wait to find the one! And then, like, uh-oh! Guess what! I found him! We're getting married! And you've only known him for seven months.
I would have married him five months ago if I could have.
But You're not nervous? No.
I'm so excited.
Wedding night, I mean, a little bit.
Really? I feel like it's going to hurt.
Seriously? God created humans to have sex.
It's human nature.
Yeah, it's like taking a shit.
You just do it.
Wow.
And it feels good.
Taking a shit? It's a little different.
Wait, have you guys kissed yet? Is he a virgin? Yeah.
Oh, my god.
To be a fly on the wall.
He's the real deal, y'all.
I just feel like Dre is a man, and he's ready for a serious relationship.
He knows what he wants.
Knows exactly what he wants.
That is important.
Bryant seems like that kind of guy.
Would y'all ever get married? I mean, not in three months.
But Shut up! maybe in three years.
Dre is a doctor.
You have hit the jackpot.
I'm not going to lie.
I'm kind of jealous of being married to someone with that much stability.
Finances are really tight, right now.
And he wants to hire this new publicist lady.
It's a lady? Yeah.
Oh, Kerry Degman! So are you excited, at least, that he's moving forward in the steps of, you know I am.
But hiring a publicist isn't going to be cheap or free.
As a musician, that's kind of what you have to do.
Well, I agreed to meet her at dinner tonight.
Is she cute? [MUSIC - SIA AND DAVID GUETTA, "FLAMES".]
I don't think you should be jealous, though.
You and Kerry, even though y'all have your issues, I feel like there's a lot of really sweet things about your relationship.
(SINGING) You can do this.
So, my love, keep on running.
You got to get through today! How is it? Quite nice? You know how there's warm spots and cold spots? Did you pee? Maybe it's best if you stay out.
I'm good up here, thanks.
It's freezing.
It's nice to have a day off and be able to come out here.
Ali's got to be so pissed that I flaked on her again.
How's training going? We hadn't really gone as hard as we did for Miss Tennessee.
She's kind of got a good foundation.
And you and I have this amazing new great thing.
And I'd rather spend time with you than Ali at this point.
Seven months down, a lot longer to go.
Yeah, just you'll never forget the first time you see someone that means something to you.
I'll never forget the first time you walked into the house.
And we were having that little get together.
And I never thought we'd be anything.
I was just like, something about that girl's a little bit different.
Yeah, I definitely didn't see this being a thing, which, I don't have a type.
But you're just different than anybody that I've ever dated.
You're not like a good old country boy from Alabama.
You wear like tighter jeans, and I'm a city slicker.
Yeah, you are.
You're a Nashville city slicker.
I'm super excited for you to go to Shreveport with me for this Miss USA pageant.
I'm excited to go with your family and see Ali.
Who knows which Ali we're going to get.
But She's kind of intimidating.
A lot of people say that about her.
We just haven't had much time to hang out.
I mean, Miss USA, not many people, obviously, get to go.
She does know I'm coming, right? [MUSIC - ALICIA SKY, "TURN THE SKY BLUE".]
She knows that I'm in this new relationship with you, and how much it means to me.
You know, I appreciate that.
But you should really check with her.
(SINGING) Don't leave me hanging.
Don't keep me waiting.
I want to role with you.
Let's live in the moment, don't care where we're going.
Tell me that you want me, too.
Thank you.
So you never told me, where did this publicist lady even come from? I mean, I feel like you have so many people, manager, agents.
How many people do you need? More people.
I don't know.
I just don't get it.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this.
[MUSIC - WILLA J, "WHATCHA WANT".]
(SINGING) Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hi, there.
Hello, how are you? Good to see you.
So good to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Great to meet you.
How are you guys? It's really good to meet you.
I've heard a lot about you, and excited to all sit down and chat a little bit more about Kerry and his career.
So I know you're a publicist.
But how are you going to help Kerry? I have a lot of connections with people here in town, and then beyond.
And so, with my connections, I have the power to get venues, different shows, touring schedule, trying to appeal to that younger demographic.
And so bringing in a little bit more of a his personality, rebranding his social media.
I want to just try and appeal to a younger age group.
And how do you get paid? To be able to dedicate time to him, he has to have me on retainer.
Does that mean he has to pay you upfront every month? Every month.
So I don't know how much Kerry has told you about our financial situation.
But I basically had to give up going to law school for his music career.
Basically, we couldn't really afford for me to go to law school right now.
So the idea that he's now going to be paying for something that's not very tangible right away.
I think we should talk about that at home.
It's kind of a private conversation.
So, Kerry, I have couple of things already lined up since our first conversation.
I have a few radio, promotional things, great exposure.
And so I think that's our first step.
I think we should start working together immediately.
I'm not going to turn it down.
This is how it works.
What just happened? How can I consider her a business partner? She's two years younger than me.
Her job is, what, Instagram? OK, so she's younger than me and she does Instagram.
Good job.
I'm expressing to you that that's not appropriate.
Why are you so defensive? Why can't this just be a conversation about This is the conversation.
I'm telling you the facts.
I'm serious.
[MUSIC PLAYING.]
Can you just let me talk? Sure, go ahead.
Why don't you understand that it's [BLEEP.]
up that you wouldn't ask me first and you just said, right in front of me, yeah, I'm in.
I don't know why you just keep making choices like this when you know that it's not good for your family.
It is good for my family.
My family's been helping me pursue this, sacrificing a lot, for six years.
The worst thing I should possibly do is do anything that hurts the effort.
You should have talked to me about it before you said yes.
I can't believe you just went and hired this girl.
We're talking, right now.
- Give me one good reason - Why can't you just say, sorry I didn't ask you about it before I said yes? Because I'm not sorry.
I'm asking for one reason, right now, why I should you said no.
Whatever.
I don't know how many times we'd circle back around again on the whole Next time, talk to me about it first.
We're talking about it right now.
What don't you understand about that? Just talk to me about it first! I mean, I give up law school.
And now, we're going broke so you can have a publicist.
Do you know how disrespectful that is? Whatever, Kerry.
Good luck.
Oh, I'm so sick of this shit! They're out for blood.
(SINGING) Let loose set free, you and me, all right.
Whoa! Whoa! Oh! We've haven't trained in a while.
I know.
We have to.
I feel like you're good to go, though.
I don't know why you need me.
I mean, I've only done two pageants in my life.
And I can't believe the third one is Miss USA.
This is the big time.
This is the big dog.
This is it.
Good.
I mean, it's exciting.
It's going to be wonderful.
But at the same time, it's scary.
And I think that it would be nice if you were to be there more.
I know you're working all the time.
But I feel like you've just kind of gone off with Baylee.
I'm sorry.
I mean, it's just, I'm, of course, just crazy about her.
And Don't.
I'm in love.
I mean, Jackson, first it was J-Mack, and then Savana.
I think you're two for two on relationship fails this year.
Well, I need you to be there for me with this entire process.
I'm always there for you.
I will be there, 100%.
I mean, I'll take off work.
I'll do all that kind of stuff.
So OK.
I wouldn't miss that.
I wanted to ask if you would be cool with bringing Baylee to the pageant.
To Miss USA? Yeah.
I need you to be there for me, and not Baylee.
[MUSIC - THE ROYAL FOUNDRY, "WE KEEP ON DANCING".]
(SINGING) We keep on dancing, the moon up above.
Star spangled memories, they capture our love.
Let's get buzzed.
Are you drinking tonight? Yes.
OK.
OK, let's get turnt.
So, after dinner with his publicist, me and Kerry got in a huge fight.
About? In of alley of the restaurant.
About what? Oh, she helping him with social media and stuff? Yes.
I mean, honestly, that can do the same stuff for Show the love, people.
Always.
Good to see you.
Hello, people.
Hello, love.
Hi.
How are you doing? Good.
Hello.
What's going on, stranger? Good to see you.
Don't get too excited.
I'm so excited to see you.
No, I'm just hanging.
Are you singing tonight? Maybe.
Great to see you.
- You too.
- You been good? Yeah.
Things are good.
How about you? So I guess, really, the last time I saw you was New Year's Eve.
I wanted to apologize.
Because I feel like I Looking back on it, I feel like I did you wrong.
I'm sorry.
I appreciate you saying that.
I was disappointed with how the whole night kind of went down.
But I really have gotten over it.
It's water under the bridge.
As far as I'm concerned, we're good.
No more talk about New Year's.
What's new with you? - There's been a couple things.
- What are you trying I'm engaged.
What is on your finger? I know.
- Isn't that crazy? - Look at you.
That's awesome.
Getting married next month.
You're getting married next month? Yeah, next month.
Are you happy? You content? You love this man, he's a good dude? I love him.
He loves me.
Yeah, we just we work.
OK.
Have y'all kissed? We have.
You probably asked him.
I'm not You did! I'm not going to admit to that.
How are you doing in the relationship world? - There's something going on.
- Yeah? Savana.
- No.
- No, didn't work out.
Not so good.
A lot's change for both of us, for sure.
Yeah, for the best.
For the best.
Can I have a big swig of yours? No.
Seriously? What's going on over here? Oh, just drinking a little bit.
Oh, my god.
See that guy over there? Who is he? That's Jeremiah.
Me and Kerry and Jeremiah were really good friends.
And then Kerry started touring a lot.
And then Jeremiah and I got closer and closer.
I mean, we were hanging out a lot.
We got too close.
Kerry and I were constantly fighting about it.
And then we decided, mutually, it was best if we stopped talking.
And then a year ago, he moved to California.
But I guess he's back.
Kerry is not going to be happy about this.
So you're going to reconnect and be friends again? I don't know, Rach.
I don't know who that boy is.
But I don't want him here.
I don't want him anywhere near you.
I don't like him.
I don't know who that boy is.
But I don't want him here.
I don't want him anywhere near you.
I don't like him.
Let me just go over there and say hi.
I know.
What is she doing? Jay.
Ray! Hey.
You've been out of town.
I have.
How was LA.
I mean, LA was great.
It's good to be back here for the summer.
Yeah.
It's been too long.
I'm a little tipsy, already.
Cheers to that.
[MUSIC - AGAINST THE CURRENT, "ALMOST FORGOTTEN".]
(SINGING) I almost forgot.
You're still affecting Don't move! Did you get it? Ah! Pierced my eyeball.
Do you remember whenever you used to do this game with me? So here you do you take it.
Was this before we started dating? This is right when we started dating.
When we started, or before? When, at the first date, I think.
Then you got to flip it over.
Whoever gets it don't cheat! I'm not! Don't cheat! - Huh! - No! Oh, you get the wish! OK, now, you got to blow it.
Um Good.
It was a good wish, babe.
What was your wish? I am really excited to marry you, babe.
Are you nervous at all? Not really.
At all? Just to be, I guess, beginning of being married.
I feel like a lot of people say marriage is tough.
But what's the thing that's like stressing you out most? I mean I mean, it's hard to have a relationship, and be a serious musician.
Because your time is so unpredictable.
At least that's I kind of get from Rachyl.
What's going on there? I know I'm just Kerry's just very dedicated to his music career.
And so he tours a lot.
So she just kind of feels like a single parent whenever he's gone.
And That'd be hard.
That's not going to be that way for us.
Right? I don't want it to be.
But I don't know.
It sounds like it's communication issues.
So So one thing we haven't talked about, how I've been meaning to ask you, how are you feeling about that night? That Like, our The wedding night.
The night.
I'm glad you asked.
OK.
Well, me too.
It's going to be a first for both of us.
And, I don't what What are you expecting? Or what are you What are you nervous about? I'm expecting fireworks.
Fireworks? OK.
It's going to be We going to set them off.
It's going to be dangerous.
Yeah.
No, I think, for me, what I see that's really cool is just being able to do something new with you that I mean A few things new with me.
OK.
Yeah, why not? OK.
We probably shouldn't be talking about this.
We're not married yet.
That's true.
That's true.
You don't need to be thinking about these things.
Can't wait.
Stop.
I know what you're thinking right now.
Stop it.
Stop.
Just stop.
Cut it out.
It's going to be the best.
It's going to be worth the wait.
[MUSIC PLAYING.]
(SINGING) Help me.
It's like the walls are caving in.
Sometimes I feel like giving up.
But I just can't.
It isn't in my veins.
Lying on the bathroom floor, feeling nothing.
Overwhelmed and insecure, give me something I can take to ease my mind, slowly.
Have a drink and you'll feel better.
Just take her home, and you'll feel better.
Keep telling me that it gets better.
Does it ever.
Help me.
It's like the walls are caving in.
Sometimes, I feel like giving up.
No medicine is strong enough.
Help me.
I'm crawling in my skin.
Sometimes feel like giving up.
But I just can't.
It isn't in my blood.
It isn't in my in my blood.
I like the curls.
It's been a long time.
You don't think, like, you're playing with fire? You're definitely playing with fire.
Regardless of how Kerry feels, just seek your own happiness.
You do put me and Kerry above me.
Are you [BLEEP.]
kidding me? Have you ever had feelings for her? Do you have feelings for her? This is your moment.
You can be selfish.
Ali just texted and said she doesn't want Bailey there.
What a slap in the face.
