Argie: MY GHOST STORY BEGAN WHEN I VISITED THE OHIO STATE REFORMATORY, MANSFIELD PRISON.
ON MY FIRST VISI TO MANSFIELD PRISON, I WAS JUST A TOURIST.
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ESCORTED BY A POLICE OFFICER WHO WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PRISON.
HE SHOWED US AROUND DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE FACILITY THAT WERE REALLY INTERESTING.
AS WE WERE ON OUR WAY OUT, WE SAW A GENTLEMAN WHO WAS AT A GREAT, BIG, STEEL DOOR, AND WE COULD HEAR POUNDING FROM THE INSIDE.
[ POUNDING .]
APPARENTLY, ANOTHER MAN WAS BEHIND THE DOOR AND HAD BEEN IN THERE TO TRY TO JUMP OU AND SCARE HIS FRIEND.
WELL, HE COULDN'T GET OUT.
THE MAN ON THE OUTSIDE SAID, "THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED.
PUSH THE DOOR OPEN.
" AND THE MAN ON THE INSIDE WAS VERY DISTRESSED, AND HE WAS OBVIOUSLY FRIGHTENED, AND HE WAS POUNDING ON THE DOOR, SCREAMING, "LET ME OUT! THERE'S SOMETHING IN HERE WITH ME!" FINALLY, THE POLICE OFFICER SAID, "STEP AWAY FROM THE DOOR, AND WE'LL GET IT OPEN.
" AND AS HE STEPPED AWAY FROM THE DOOR, THE DOOR JUST OPENED.
THE MAN ON THE INSIDE WASN'T NEAR THE DOOR, AND NONE OF US ON THE OUTSIDE WERE NEAR THE DOOR, AND THE DOOR JUST OPENED.
THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT, "THERE IS REALLY SOMETHING WEIRD GOING ON HERE.
" AFTER THAT INITIAL EXPERIENCE AT MANSFIELD, I STARTED TO DO MORE RESEARCH INTO THE FACILITY AND INTO ITS HISTORY, AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET BACK.
CATHI HAS A REPUTATION FOR BEING THE TOWN HISTORIAN, AND SHE'S REALLY GOOD AT RESEARCH, AND I WANTED TO GET HER ON MY TEAM.
Weber: WHEN THERESA CAME, SHE DID TRY TO CONVINCE ME TO JOIN HER ON AN INVESTIGATION AT THE MANSFIELD PRISON.
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE LEERY ABOUT PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION.
EVENTUALLY, SHE WORE ME DOWN, AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNEW, SHE TOOK ME TO THE MANSFIELD PRISON.
THE FIRST TIME I VISITED MANSFIELD PRISON WITH THERESA, I CAN'T EXPLAIN THE FEELING I HAD -- AWESTRUCK OR MAYBE EVEN DUMBFOUNDED BECAUSE IT'S A MASSIVE, MASSIVE BUILDING BUILT TO LOOK SIMILAR TO A CASTLE OR A GOTHIC CHURCH.
THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL LAKE OUT FRONT WITH SWANS IN IT.
YOU CANNOT BELIEVE YOU'RE GOING TO A PRISON.
ONCE YOU GET INSIDE, THE REALITY HITS YOU.
THE MANSFIELD PRISON IS AN EXCITING PLACE AS A HISTORIAN.
IT WAS BUILT AROUND 1886.
THE BACKGROUND IS VERY, VERY DEEP.
IT'S THOUGH THAT OVER 200 PEOPLE HAVE DIED AT MANSFIELD PRISON -- PRISONERS, PEOPLE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENTS' FAMILIES, AND GUARDS, AS WELL.
Argie: IT WAS THE NIGH OF THE FIRST INVESTIGATION, AND WE WERE FEELING PULLED DOWN TO SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
Weber: AS WE WEN INTO THE SOLITARY AREA, WE HAD OUR RECORDERS WITH US.
WE HAD OUR CAMERAS WITH US.
WE STARTED TO RECORD AND SHOOT.
Argie: SO, I'M STANDING INSIDE THIS CELL IN SOLITARY, AND WE WERE SPECIFICALLY ASKING FOR A NAME AND A PRISON NUMBER.
WHEN WE PLAYED BACK OUR RECORDING, WE GOT THE ANSWER.
Weber: AS WE LISTENED, WE WERE SHOCKED TO FIND OU THAT SOMEONE IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS MIKE EVANS, ALONG WITH A PRISON NUMBER.

WE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT -- NOT ONLY DID WE GET MIKE, BUT WE ALSO GO AN OBSCENITY OR SCREAMING.
IT WAS FAIRLY OBVIOUS THAT THIS SPIRI DID NOT LIKE ME AT ALL.
Weber: WE WERE PACKING UP FOR THE NIGHT.
IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE, AND AFTER GOING TWO FLIGHTS DOWN, WE ENTERED INTO A HALLWAY AND NOTICED WE WERE RIGHT NEAR THE WARDEN'S LIVING QUARTERS.
SUDDENLY, WE HEARD A VOICE PIERCING THE DARKNESS.

Argie: IT WAS SO LOUD, WE BOTH STOPPED IN OUR TRACKS AND LOOKED AT EACH OTHER, LIKE, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" IT SOUNDED LIKE A WOMAN'S ANGUISHED CRY, LIKE SHE WAS IN DEEP PAIN, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL.
IT WAS HEARTBREAKING.
AND, OF COURSE, WE DIDN'T HAVE OUR RECORDERS GOING.

IT COMES OUT OF THE AIR, AND THEN YOU REALIZE YOU'RE HEARING SOMETHING THAT THERE'S NOT AN EXPLANATION FOR.
Argie: WE KNEW THAT WE HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH A SPIRIT.

WHY WOULD THERE BE A WOMAN'S CRY IN A MAN'S PRISON? Weber: WE DID FIND A STORY ABOUT A WOMAN WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA OF THE BUILDING, AND HER STORY WAS SAD AND VERY MYSTERIOUS.
THE WOMAN WAS HELEN GLATTKE.
SHE WAS THE WIFE OF ARTHUR GLATTKE, WHO WAS ONE OF THE SUPERINTENDENTS.
Argie: SHE DIED IN 1950.
THE STORY GOES ONE DAY, SHE WAS GETTING READY FOR CHURCH.
SHE PULLED DOWN A JEWELRY BOX FROM HER CLOSET, AND THERE WAS A LOADED GUN ON TOP OF HER JEWELRY BOX.
THE GUN ACCIDENTALLY FELL [ THUD .]
AND DISCHARGED AND SHOT HER IN THE CHEST.
THE MORE RESEARCH I DID ABOU THE DEATH OF HELEN GLATTKE, THE MORE QUESTIONS IT RAISED.
THERE WAS NEVER ANY OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION INTO HER DEATH.
THE PRISON DOCTOR DECLARED THAT IT WAS A FAFAULTY GUN THAT KILLED HER.
I THINK THAT I NEED TO CONTINUE ON DIGGING AND DISCOVERING WHA HAPPENED TO HER.
SO WE ORGANIZED ANOTHER INVESTIGATION TO PROBE DEEPER INTO THE STORY.
WHEN WE RETURNED BACK TO MANSFIELD PRISON, WE WENT INTO THE FAMILY BEDROOM, AND AS SOON AS I CROSSED THE THRESHOLD, I WAS IMMEDIATELY HI WITH AN OVERWHELMING SCEN OF ROSE PERFUME.
WE TRIED TO FOLLOW THE SMELL BECAUSE IT WOULD DISSIPATE AND THEN IT WOULD REAPPEAR AGAIN.
SO, THE SMELL WOULD BE GONE.
WE'D TAKE A FEW STEPS, AND IT WAS THERE.
Weber: IT SEEMED TO STAY IN THE ROOM WITH US, AND WE BOTH SAID, "COULD IT BE HELEN?" AT ONE POINT, THERESA STARTED TO WALK TOWARDS THE DOOR, OUT INTO THE HALLWAY, WITH HER CAMERA IN HER HAND, AND I GOT MY CAMERA UP, AND I WAS FACING THE CLOSE WHERE THE ALLEGED ACCIDENT OCCURRED.
THE DOORWAY WHERE THERESA WAS WAS JUST TO THE LEFT OF THAT.

THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED THAT THEY CAN TOUCH YOU.
THEY HAVE THE POWER, AND YOU DON'T.
THAT WAS A GAME-CHANGER.
I REALIZE THAT WHENEVER I GO BACK TO MANSFIELD, THAT I NEED TO BE CAREFUL, BUT I FEEL COMPELLED TO TELL THE STORY, ESPECIALLY HELEN'S STORY, AND THAT COMPULSION FOR ME OVERRIDES THE FEAR THAT I HAVE OF MIKE EVANS OR ANY OTHER SPIRI THAT MIGHT BE AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS ME THERE.

AFTER HAVING SO MANY STRANGE EXPERIENCES IN THE HOUSE, I DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE.

AFTER THAT, I STARTED TAKING PICTURES ON A DAILY BASIS, CAPTURING MORE AND MORE OF THESE BALLS OF LIGHT, WHICH I CAME TO FIND OU WERE CALLED "ORBS.

IT HAS A NIGHT-SHOT FEATURE ON IT.
WE LEFT THE HOUSE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.

WE STARTED GETTING THE GRINDING ON THE CAMERA.
THE GHOST WAS ABSORBING ENERGY IN ORDER TO APPEAR.

I'D NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

AFTER GOING TO THE TEXAS STATE ARCHIVES, I DISCOVERED ALL THAT REMAINED OF ANY DOCUMENTATION OF WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE AND WHO ACTUALLY LIVED THERE WAS 27 BOXES THAT HELD 353 FILES, AND THOSE WERE THE ONLY FILES THAT REMAINED.
REALIZING THAT THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF WOMEN WHO HAD DIED IN THAT ONE LOCATION WHOSE NAMES HAVE BEEN LOST FOREVER MADE ME REALLY THINK THA WHAT DIDN'T GET LOST FOREVER WAS THE RESIDUAL ENERGY, OR THEIR SOUL.

Plumer: TRENT AND I ARRIVED AT THE CONFEDERATE WOMEN'S HOME JUST AFTER SUNSET, AND WE HAD BEEN GIVEN A KEY, SO WE PRETTY MUCH HAD FREE REIGN OF THE WHOLE PLACE -- JUST US.
WHAT I FEL WHEN I ENTERED THAT BUILDING WAS JUST THE SADNESS.
WELL, I WANTED TO GO WHERE THE HOSPITAL HAD BEEN.
AND THE HOSPITAL HAD BEEN TORN DOWN AND THEN REPLACED WITH A CONTEMPORARY BUILDING, WHICH WAS NOW AN ADULT-CARE REC ROOM.
Patterson: WE WANTED TO RUN A VIDEO CAMERA WITH AS LITTLE LIGHT AS WE COULD IN THE ROOM.
AND SO WHAT I DID IS I WENT AROUND TO SEVERAL OF THE TABLES IN THE REC ROOM, AND I STOOD ON THE TABLE AND I REACHED UP AND I GRABBED THE FLUORESCENT LIGHTS AND I JUST TURNED THE BULBS SO THAT THEY WOULD GO OUT.
AND THEN WE SAT DOWN, AND JEANINE AND I READ THROUGH SOME OF THE HISTORY, AND WE TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED THERE.

Ricksecker: MY GHOST STORY BEGAN WHEN I VISITED BLACKBEAR CHURCH IN OLIVE TOWNSHIP, OKLAHOMA.
BLACKBEAR CHURCH OU IN OLIVE TOWNSHIP, OKLAHOMA -- A LOCAL, RURAL CHURCH FOR THE FARMERS IN THE AREA, EARLY 1900s.
ACROSS THE STREET IS THE CEMETERY.
THERE'S A LOT OF LOCALS THAT ARE BURIED THERE, AS WELL AS PARISHIONERS FROM THE CHURCH.
IT BASICALLY CEASED OPERATION IN THE LATE 1960s, EARLY '70s.
WE HAD HEARD A LOT OF RUMORS ABOUT OCCULT PRACTICES GOING ON THERE.
A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE COMING OU AND DOING DIFFERENT RITUALS.
SHADOW FIGURES LURKED AROUND THE AREA, AS WELL AS SOMETHING ELSE THAT PEOPLE WERE DESCRIBING AS A CRAWLER.
TODAY THE CHURCH IS USED FOR OCCULT PRACTICES BY VARYING GROUPS.
WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHO THEY ARE.
IN THE BACK AREA, THERE IS A STONE SLAB WHERE WE'VE SEEN THE EVIDENCE OF BURNT OFFERINGS.
ANIMAL BONES HAVE BEEN THERE AS WELL AS DROPLETS OF BLOOD.
IT SEEMS THAT WHATEVER SPIRITS ARE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN CONJURED UP BY THOSE THAT WERE COMMITTING THE OCCULT PRACTICES THERE.
Nance: THROUGH RESEARCH, MIKE HAD FOUND OU THAT BLACKBEAR CHURCH WAS REALLY HAUNTED AND THAT WE SHOULD GO CHECK IT OUT.
DRIVING UP TO BLACKBEAR CHURCH, IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.
YOU WOULDN'T EXPECT I TO BE THERE.
THERE'S NO ROOF.
THERE'S NO WINDOWS.
IT'S JUST TOTALLY EXPOSED.
Ricksecker: WE WENT INTO THE CHURCH.
THERE WERE A COUPLE OTHERS WITH US -- A MEDIUM, FOR ONE.
THE FIRST THING I ALWAYS DO WHEN I WALK INTO AN AREA IS I START SNAPPING PICTURES.
I SNAP A PICTURE, AND RIGHT DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS PICTURE IS A VERY ILLUMINATED BALL OF LIGHT.
WHEN I WALKED IN, I DIDN'T SEE THE ILLUMINATED BALL.
IT SHOWED UP EXCLUSIVELY ON THE CAMERA, BUT IT WAS HIGH ABOVE THE MIDDLE OF THE CHURCH AREA, LIKE NEAR THE PULPIT.
MY IMMEDIATE REACTION IS TO GO AHEAD AND FOLLOW WITH MORE PICTURES, SEE IF I COULD STILL CAPTURE IT.
BUT IT WAS GONE.
I DEFINITELY THINK THE BALL OF LIGHT WAS A SPIRIT.
IT HAD ITS OWN LUMINESCENCE ABOUT IT.
Nance: I WAS STANDING OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH WHEN I TOOK A PICTURE.

THERE'S A LOT GOING ON IN THE PHOTOGRAPH.
THERE'S FACES.
ONE OF THE FACES ALMOST LOOKS LIKE A MASK, LIKE IT HAD TO BE PUT THERE OR CREATED BY SOMETHING, BUT IT'S NOT.
THE FACES IN THAT PHOTOGRAPH ARE DEFINITELY PARANORMAL.
AND I BELIEVE THAT IT'S SPIRITS.
I DON'T KNOW IF THEY'RE HUMAN OR NOT.
MIKE AND I WENT DOWN INTO THE BASEMENT, AND WE HAD A MEDIUM WITH US.
SHE FELT THAT THERE WERE THINGS OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH THAT WERE PEEKING IN, AND SHE WAS AFRAID FOR OUR SAFETY, SO SHE TOLD US NOT TO GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE DOORS OR THE WINDOWS.
Ricksecker: WE COULD SEE THESE SMALL SHADOW FIGURES JUST LOOKING IN AT US.
WE REALLY COULDN'T SEE A FACE OR EYES.
YOU COULD JUST SENSE THAT THEY WERE STARING AT YOU, KIND OF PEERING IN, LIKE THEY WERE LEANING AS CLOSE TO THE WINDOW AS THEY COULD.
Nance: THE ATMOSPHERE WAS VERY THICK.
IT WAS DIFFICULT TO BREATHE.
I WAS NAUSEATED.
Ricksecker: YOU COULD SEE SOMETHING MOVING ABOUT, DARTING FROM CORNER TO CORNER, SOMETIMES UP ALONG THE CEILING AREA.
WE TOOK THAT TO BE THE CRAWLER THAT WE HAD HEARD SO MANY RUMORS ABOUT.
IT KEPT GETTING CLOSER TO US.
THE MEDIUM WAS REACTING TO IT, SPINNING AROUND, GLANCING FROM CORNER TO CORNER TO TRY TO GET A GRIP ON WHERE IT WAS.
AROUND THAT TIME, THERE WAS A PLASTIC BOTTLE THAT GOT THROWN ACROSS THE FLOOR.
I KNEW THE BOTTLE BEING KICKED WASN'T ONE OF US.
WE WEREN'T NEAR IT.
IT DEFINITELY HAD TO BE SOMETHING ELSE.
Nance: WHEN I WAS SORTING THROUGH THE PHOTOS, ALL THE HAIR WENT UP ON MY BODY BECAUSE I KNEW THAT I WAS LOOKING AT SOMETHING PARANORMAL.
IT WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT ME IN THE PHOTO.
THE MEDIUM HAD, IN FACT, SEEN THE CRAWLER BECAUSE THERE IT WAS, ITS KNEES DRAWN UP, ITS ARMS WRAPPED AROUND ITS LEGS.
THIS IS WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOU WAS CRAWLING AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH.
THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS SHE WAS AFRAID OF US COMING INTO CONTACT WITH, AND HERE IT IS.
MIKE AND I WEN INTO THE CEMETERY.
Ricksecker: I TOOK A FEW EXTRA MINUTES TO JUST WALK THE HEADSTONES, REALLY TAKE IN THE FEEL OF THE CEMETERY AND THOSE WHO HAD BEEN BURIED THERE.
I WAS CARRYING WITH ME A DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDER, AND WHILE I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING AT THE TIME WITH MY EARS WHILE I WAS IN THE CEMETERY, LATER ON, I HAD LISTENED BACK TO THE AUDIO FROM THE RECORDER, AND I HEARD A VOICE SAY, "MY TEETH ARE WARM.
" NOW, THERE WAS NOBODY ELSE THAT WAS NEAR ME.
EVERYBODY ELSE WAS BACK OFF BY THE CAR, AND I WAS BACK A WAYS IN THE CEMETERY, COMPLETELY ALONE, AND YET THERE'S A VOICE THAT VERY CLEARLY SAYS, "MY TEETH ARE WARM.
" THIS WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE STRANGER AND CRAZIEST AUDIO RECORDINGS THAT WE'VE EVER PICKED UP.
I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT STATEMENT MEANS.
Nance: MIKE AND I WERE GETTING READY TO LEAVE THE CEMETERY, AND WE HEARD OBVIOUS FOOTSTEPS COMING DOWN THE ROAD.
Ricksecker: WE'RE THINKING ONE OF THE LOCALS HAS COME DOWN TO SEE WHAT WE WERE DOING 'CAUSE WE HAD OUR CAMERAS GOING.
LIGHTS ARE FLASHING ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Nance: WE WALKED OUT THE GATE, STARTED WALKING DOWN THE ROAD TO SEE WHAT WE CAN SEE, AND THERE'S NOTHING THERE.
SO WE DECIDED TO GET INTO THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE COYOTES.
[ COYOTE HOWLS .]
Ricksecker: WE GET IN THE CAR AND ACTUALLY DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD PROBABLY ABOUT A HALF A MILE, AND WE DON'T SEE ANYBODY OUT THERE.
NOT A SINGLE SOUL WAS ON THIS ROAD THAT COULD HAVE MADE THE FOOTSTEPS.
Nance: IT WAS REALLY SOMETHING KNOWING THAT YOU'RE NOT ALONE OUT THERE.
THERE'S SOMETHING WATCHING YOU, MAYBE SEEING WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
AND THEY WERE MAYBE THERE TO CHECK US OUT.
Ricksecker: WE DROVE BY THE CHURCH AND THE CEMETERY ONE LAST TIME, JUST KIND OF TOOK IT IN FOR ONE LAST, FINAL MOMENT, AND THEN WE CALLED IT AN EVENING AND WENT HOME.
BEING OUT THERE AT BLACKBEAR CHURCH AND THE CEMETERY ACROSS THE STREE WAS A VERY EYE-OPENING EXPERIENCE.
THIS WAS REALLY THE DARKEST LOCATION I HAD BEEN TO.
Nance: WE DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE WE GOT WHAT WE CAME FOR.
I'VE GO SOME OF THE BEST EVIDENCE EVER.
I WOULD NEVER GO TO BLACKBEAR CHURCH BY MYSELF.
