So strange. I just wore them.
[Julia] Today is the big day.
We are going to Texas.
My only happy moments
and happy memories from my childhood
are in Austin, Texas.
I was born in Moscow, Russia.
And before my family moved to Monsey,
we lived in Austin.
What I've been going through with Sylvia
was taking a toll on all of us.
So to have an opportunity to go away
and share happy memories I have,
I hope is going to bring us
even closer together.

I'm so excited.

Do you realize I have not been back here
in almost 40 years?
We kept kosher
since I was, like, nine years old.
Like, I never got to taste Texas barbecue.

for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I've been talking about Austin
to my kids for years.
I haven't been back here
since I was eleven years old.
And I am flooded
by so many memories.
I was three and a half
when we left Moscow.
When my parents saw
what communism actually was,
they became completely disillusioned.
And that's when they started
studying Judaism underground.
They were caught,
and my father was imprisoned.
And at the same time,
Russia was having a massive hunger.
So America gave Russia grain, and Russia
released a bunch of Jewish prisoners.
So that was my parents,
and we all moved to Texas.
I remember everything.
It was pretty crazy.

As excited as I am to, like,
have this huge step come to fruition,
there is a big, big elephant
in the room in that
I am committed to the Haart Sphere.
I don't know how I can do both
at the same time.

So they're gonna start pitching me
to casting agents next week.

My melatonin is going away.

to tell Julia at some point on this trip.

This is where our family's first part
of being in America started.
Guys, this is where I grew up.
The last time I was here,
I did a report on Walt Disney.

I used to hide behind bushes with my bike
and try to find mysteries
-'cause I wanted to be Trixie Belden.

I have no clue who that is.
Trixie Belden was a girl detective
who lived in the Adirondacks
and she solved mysteries.
But I like Trixie Belden
better than Nancy Drew
'cause Nancy Drew is too girly for me.
I was a massive tomboy. Sound familiar?

-Yeah, we're all tomboys here.

This is where I lived!
[Robert] Oh my God. Are you serious?
[Julia] I am serious.
-[Miriam] There's a little gate.

I'm so disappointed that I can't go inside
because living in this house,
those are my only happy memories
of childhood.
Those are my only normal memories
that I have before I walked out the door.
So to see it
here in front of me like this,
it's a really special moment.

These are the only happy memories I have.

As a kid, childhood memories.

Yes! I've been wanting to do this forever.
[Robert] What did you get out of it?
Just reminds me how far I've come.

-And where I came from.
One of the things that
I try not to think of too frequently,
but sometimes I can't help myself
is what would all of our lives
have been like if we stayed in Austin?
When my parents came to Texas,
they became attracted
to Lubavitch Judaism,
which is a very, very religious,
ultra-Orthodox sect of Judaism.
Within three years of living in Texas,
I went from being a normal American kid
to being the only kid in my class
who covered herself from head to toe
and wouldn't go to any friends' house
because they didn't keep kosher.
And since there was not a fully religious
Jewish school in Texas,
they decided it was time to move
to a full-on religious Jewish community.
What would my life have been like
if we stayed a part of the outside world?
I would probably still be talking
to my parents.
It really gets me angry when I think
about those things. So I try not to.
Okay, guys. Now that we all have
our drinks, I want us to make a toast
to the next chapter and to Haart Sphere.

-So Miriam is gonna be the CTO.

How do you feel about being a CTO?
My original plan was to do school
for another year. You knew that.

If that's what you wanna do,

I know that and so it's really
a decision I have to make.
It is something I have to think about
because I did wanna continue studying
'cause I am young and I still have
so much more to learn.
Then there's this huge opportunity
that I don't want to pass up.
So it is something
that I've been thinking about.
I did not know that Miriam was
questioning being a CTO at all.
I had no idea. I thought
she was ecstatic about the idea.
I'm hearing this. I'm asking myself
if I'm doing the right thing.
I made an assumption.
If it's an incorrect one,
we should rectify it immediately
because if she wants to have fun, my God.
I'm so on board with that.
[cellphone rings]

I had no idea you, like,

Feels like I'm waking up a little bit.

And that's why I love Nathalie for you
because I feel like

Miriam and I, we are very similar
and we're both people pleasers, right?
She inherited that from me too.

that she's not people-pleasing here
and choosing to do this
because she thinks it's what I want.

you're going through feel

I'm thinking that maybe in some weird way,
this is good for me.
Because I always say I'm a fighter.
But have I ever really been tested
by, like, someone who's evil,
who has no boundaries,
who will do whatever it takes?
Like, have I ever been tested
to this extreme?
And I realize that I haven't.
And the other thing I realized,
which is so embarrassing
but true, and I have to face it,
is that I'm a victim.
I-I made myself crazy,
bent myself into pretzels,
did everything he asked.
He yelled at me
and humiliated me and tried to diminish.
I still kept doing everything he wanted.
And, you know, reading Miriam's affidavit,
where she said how she saw me shrink
and change my voice
and be more subservient to him.

[Miriam] I felt that way for a long time.
I didn't even realize that living through
what I was living through
was not normal or that this is not a way
a man should behave.

I think one of the issues that my mom had,
she wants me to have a partner
who contributes to the household
from a financial perspective,
as well as an emotional perspective,
and, uh, that's important to her.
The fact that Ra'ed now has a job
We should see some things
changing for her, I think.

I told Mom about this,
but I don't know if I told you, Ross, yet.

Or the lack thereof.
And so I went
and I spoke to an agent for Broadway.
They said that if I wanted to do it,
I would probably have to really commit.
I'm thinking about doing that.
What do ya'll think?
I mean, I like it. It's a perfect time
if you're financially comfortable.
And then Ra'ed now has a job.
So I'm hoping
-As long as he keeps the job.
-[Robert] As long as he keeps it.
And who knows? I might not get anything.
It might be too fake of a dream.
[Ross] But theoretically,
you don't get anything unless you did it.
You can never look back and say you
didn't do it. But it is a turning point.
I think thinking about doing Broadway
and Haart Sphere are like
It's difficult to know
if it's even possible to do both.
In my head, I wanna think,
"Of course, I can do both."
But I know, like,
how demanding a start-up is and
I don't know if it's possible for me
to also have this other career.
I don't know what's possible.
Ra'ed thinks I should definitely do
the Broadway thing.
[Ross] Yeah, I'm sure.
-He'd have to pay the bills and all that.

Think about that.

other than me has to pay the bills.

I think it's really cool.

I think my biggest takeaway from this time
in Austin has been, you know,
reconnecting with my past.
I have seven sisters and brothers.
I literally raised
my sisters and brothers.
They were my kids.
My mother is one of the strongest,
most powerful people I know.
And I miss her.
I miss that closeness we had.
Now, during this really difficult time,
the worst month of my life,
to not have the people
that I love in my life, that hurts.
That really hurts.
Other than that.

and it's my funny thing.

There is zero point zero way I could have
gone through
what we just went through.
Being able to go home
and not talk about it.

If I couldn't have done that
That's why with my mom, I know she, like
I spoke to her about it.
She doesn't feel like
I was there for her enough.
And yeah, I checked out.
I'll totally admit to that.
But we always had a person whenever
there was a crisis
and I didn't have anyone.
It's not that I don't love her,
I don't support her,
I don't wanna feel, like, her pain.
But, like, I whatever I'm giving now
is, like, all that I have.
This is the most intense thing
any of us have ever gone through.
And, like, I feel like
the way out is forward.
Right.
And I'm happy you're here. And I love you.
