NCIS s21e08 Episode Script

Heartless

1

- What have we got?
- Acute myocardial infarction.
Heart disease?
Overdose. Cocaine.
Let's get two large-bore IVs going.
All right, Doctor. It's all yours.
Okay, Doctors, it's your time
to shine. Let's get
Sleeping Beauty stabilized.
Checking her vitals.
Checking EKG.
Pulse 150, BP 180/100.
Heartbeat's rapid and climbing.
We got to bring that down. I'm advising
five milligrams of metoprolol.
[MONITOR FLATLINING]
Great work, Doctors.
You just killed your patient.
You killed me? Again?!
[SIGHS]
Come on, guys, we've been over this.
Beta blockers are contraindicated
in cocaine-induced heart attacks.
- Sorry, Dr. Logan.
- "Sorry"
doesn't cut it
if you kill a real patient.
And Sleeping Beauty really?
I was riffing. What do you prefer?
I'd prefer if our residents
didn't fail their medical simulation.
Agreed.
Which is why we're staying here
till we get this right.
Learning takes time.
You'll get this.
Study up and we'll go again in 30.
I'll go buy us some dinner.
Both residents seemed overwhelmed,
but I'm confident I can teach them.
It's just a matter of time.
Dr. Harper?
Oh, hey. Fellas, I
Whoa, whoa, take it easy. Fellas.
I've only got 20 bucks on me.
GUNMAN: We don't want your money.
We want you.

Morning.
Hey. Morning.
Is the Wi-Fi down?
No. Why?
Well, you're reading a newspaper.
Oh, yeah. No, I get the paper
delivered every morning.
Mm. That's so analog of you.
Well, you know, I'm trying to cut
down on my screen time a little.
Plus, there's something
kind of nostalgic
about holding a newspaper.
Mm, I used to love Peanuts.
Back page if you want 'em.
- Mm-hmm.
- Heads up.
- [GROANS]
- Air ball.
Torres gets his own rebound.
I was on fire this morning.
What, you were practicing?
Yeah, uh, Parker and I
have a big game on Saturday.
You and Parker play basketball?
Oh, yeah, two on two at our gym.
Don't let his silver locks fool you,
the man is a beast on the court.
Last night, ten seconds left,
tied game, crowd going wild
You had a crowd at your gym?
Uh, people on the treadmill.
But anyways, I'm driving the ball
and I pass it to Parker and I come
and he's like, baby hook and
Wait, that's got to be the wind, right?
Is, uh, is the A/C on?
- Did Parker make the shot?
- Oh, yeah.
He nailed it. Like,
he's got this
baby hook that's just money.
- Mm-hmm.
- Yeah, we're going
to league finals,
and we're the runaway favorites.
PARKER: Ah.
Ooh, uh, sure about that?
Baby Hook, what's wrong?
[EXHALES]
Uh, just a stiff neck. No big deal.
Uh, it looks like a pretty big deal.
[GRUNTS]
Uh, you know, Parker,
my grandma used to swear by
this herbal ointment and I think
- I have some.
- MCGEE: Yeah, I have
an electronic muscle stimulator.
You should try it.
Thanks, really, but, ah I'm good.
No, we're not good.
Dude, we have a big game on Saturday.
Let me fix you up. I'll give you
my patented bear-hug back crack.
Back off. Nobody's touching me
except my chiropractor.
Then let's make that appointment, baby.
She's off today. I made
an appointment for tomorrow.
I'll be good on game day.
For now, I just got to stay still
- [PHONE CHIMES]
- and
[SIGHS]
[GROANING]
[GRUNTS] All right,
we got a dead Navy commander
found on the side of the road
near Woodford.
I'll bring the ointment.
Baby hook.
Okay, victim ID'd
as Commander Erik Harper, heart surgeon
stationed at Navy Medical
Center Portsmouth.
We're a long way from Portsmouth.
Well, he was on duty last night.
Went to dinner, never came back.
Because he was kidnapped.
Just got the footage from the hospital.
[PHONE BEEPS]
Hold it higher. Higher.
Any shot of the license plate?
The van didn't have one.
Van didn't leave
any tire tracks, either.
No shell casings, no weapons.
No evidence left behind.
These guys are pros.
But why kidnap someone
and drive them 200 miles
if you're gonna kill them anyway?
Torres, you and Knight canvass the area,
for witnesses.
- McGee. Yep.
- BOLO on the van.
Jimmy! Talk to me.
Well, cause of death is rather obvious.
Single gunshot wound
to the back of the head. Rigor tells me
that he died between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m.
Uh, but come on down here.
I need to show you something.
I don't suppose you could come up here?
Uh with the body?
[EXHALES]
- [GRUNTS]
- Hey, are you okay?
Stiff neck. I'll be fine.
And, uh, no, I'm not looking
for any cure-alls.
Say no more. I totally get it.
You should really try acupuncture.
I'm not a huge fan of needles.
Oh, that's right, trypanophobia.
Totally forgot.
I never told you about that.
No, but you always get squeamish
in autopsy when I jam
that big old horse syringe
into the femoral artery
Okay, okay. Enough.
Right, sorry.
Just take a look at this. [GRUNTS]
The victim was shot
in the back of the head
and yet there's blood all over
the front of his scrubs.
Spatter, maybe?
No, I don't think so.
No, there's no exit wound here.
Yeah, I think this blood
came from another person.
Huh. Could be his killer's.
Let's get a sample to Kasie ASAP.
KASIE: Jimmy was right.
The blood on Dr. Harper's pants
isn't his.
- So, whose is it?
- Not sure.
Whoever's it is isn't in the system.
But I ran a tox screen
and found something weird.
A barbiturate called methohexital.
- Never heard of it.
- It's an anesthetic.
The kind used for surgery.
I think the mystery blood
could be from a patient.
Dr. Harper didn't perform any surgeries
before he was kidnapped.
But what about after?
Wait, he was abducted
and then forced to operate?
He came in contact with someone
who was sedated and bleeding heavily.
That sounds like surgery to me.
So, even after being kidnapped,
he was trying to save someone's life?
Yeah.
And, apparently, he was killed for it.
MCGEE: Our working theory is that
our suspect kidnapped Dr. Harper,
forced him to operate
and then killed him.
Why not just make an appointment?
Maybe they couldn't pay for it.
Or they didn't want to wait.
Or maybe it's someone that
can't show their face in the U.S.,
like Putin or Kim Jong Un?
I'm pretty sure they have
their own skilled surgeons.
Yeah, but maybe not
skilled enough, though.
According to this journal,
Dr. Harper is the best
cardiothoracic surgeon in the world.
And he specializes in rare tumors.
Maybe our suspect has one.
Well, if so,
that would narrow down our list.
What list? We don't have
the access to private medical records.
Yeah, it's not like there's
there's a most wanted wall
of homicidal maniacs with heart tumors.
All right, we don't know who.
So, do we know where
the surgery took place?
Not in a hospital.
I called every medical facility
in Virginia and none reported
secret overnight surgeries.
Well, what about her?
She might know something.
MCGEE: That's his partner,
Dr. Clara Logan. I've already
asked her to come in. She
What is that smell?
- Yeah, I noticed that, too.
- I don't smell anything.
[INHALES SHARPLY]
You used my ointment.
Okay, okay, fine.
I did, but you didn't warn me
I was gonna smell like a Christmas tree.
Small price to pay to fix your neck.
Does it look like it fixed my neck?
Well, it just takes some time
to kick in.
- Rub some more on.
- No.
More is not the answer.
What about the BOLO
on the kidnapper's van?
Portsmouth police found it
a few blocks from the hospital.
Kasie is processing it now.
Good. Why didn't you just
lead with that?
Because it was burnt to a crisp.
The kidnappers torched it,
and we didn't think anybody
would be able to find DNA on it
after that.
Well, Kasie's not just anybody.
If there's DNA, she'll find it.
Ah. Rosie the Riveter. Love it.
I can do it.
[CHUCKLES]
Usually, yeah,
but this van looks pretty toasted.
Did you find anything useful?
Well, not unless Dr. Harper
was kidnapped
by a horse, a pumpkin or a baby.
Sounds like the start of a bad joke.
Oh, it might be funny
if it weren't so annoying.
Besides the horse hair,
pumpkin seeds and pacifier,
I also found
a bunch of buttons, a bonsai tree
So they just loaded the van
with a bunch of random
crap to confuse us?
Probably hoping that we'd be
chasing false leads for months.
Pretty smart, actually.
Yeah.
Oh. Looks like Dr. Harper
was smarter, though.
Look at what I just found
in the seat crack.
Is that a mini digital recorder?
The kind doctors use for dictation.
Huh. How do you know it's our victim's
and not just more random crap?
Ooh, because it's monogrammed "E.H."
Ah. Erik Harper.
- Mm-hmm.
- He must have stashed it in the seat.
I'm hoping he used it
to record his kidnappers.
Of course. The fire melted it.
Can you unmelt it?
I can do it.
I first met Erik in Indonesia.
We were on a mission
with the Navy Medical Corps
to help victims of the 2004 tsunami,
when a mom brought in her infant son
with an atrial septal defect.
Erik worked through the night
to save his life.
Now that kid is 19 years old
and Erik just wrote him
a recommendation for Georgetown.
[SNIFFLES]
Sounds like a great man.
He was.
What exactly is your field of expertise?
We remove cardio paragangliomas,
which are very rare heart tumors.
Yeah, the article mentioned
that you and Dr. Harper
never lost a patient.
Thankfully, no.
Could Dr. Harper have performed
heart surgery
outside of a hospital?
You think that's why he was kidnapped?
To perform surgery?
Well, someone would have to
build a state-of-the-art OR.
Then there's the machines,
surgical tools,
nurses, med techs.
But it is possible, yes?
If anybody could pull it off,
it would have been Erik.
That heart surgery
on that boy in Indonesia.
It was in a tent.
Wow. Thank you for your time, Dr. Logan.
[PAINED GRUNTS]
Are you okay?
Yeah, I'm fine.
PARKER: Oh this is not good.
So, what happened?
It was like a jolt
of electricity to my neck.
Maybe something's pushing on the nerve.
You really think this is gonna help?
In theory, it should reduce
the compression
between your spinal discs.
Okay, I'm bringing you up.
Here we go. Oh, yeah.
[BOTH GRUNT]
[CHUCKLES]
Why do you have an inversion table?
Oh, for my circulation.
A hang a day keeps the cold hands away.
Here. Feel.
- Toasty.
- Well
how do you feel?
[GRUNTS] Taller, but still in pain.
Because you won't try my bear hug.
You hang upside down
and use stinky cream,
but you say no to my back crack?
Easy, Nick. Your hug could
put a man in traction.
Besides, we don't have time.
I managed to salvage the audio file
from the doctor's mini recorder.
He left it recording
when he was abducted,
so we hear the kidnappers.
Problem is, they're speaking Spanish.
Would you translate?
- Right on.
- Okay.
[MAN ON RECORDING SPEAKING SPANISH]
- Hear anything useful?
- Not unless you like soccer.
They're just talking about
the next big game.
I do know that accent.
I grew up with it.
Colombians? Are you sure?
Yes. They're talking about
Los Cafeteros.
Los Cafeterosis
the Colombian national team.
[MAN CONTINUES IN SPANISH]
- Hold up, hold up.
- [RECORDING CLICKS OFF]
Did that guy say, "El Viento"?
- Yep.
- What's El Viento?
El Viento'snot a what, it's a who.
It's a nickname for Carlos Savina.
He's the head of the Cali Cartel.
El Viento means "the wind."
He was given that name because
he's never been captured.
You think he'd risk his freedom
- to come to the States for surgery?
- If he thought
it was the only way
to save his life? Yes.
And he's one of the few people
with the resources to pull it off.
He's powerful, he's rich.
And he's ruthless enough
to kill the doctor
that saved his own life.
Well, maybe Savina died in surgery,
and that's why his guys
killed Dr. Harper.
Dr. Harper never lost a patient.
So let's assume that Savina
is still alive
until we find his cold, dead body.
If he's alive,
Savina would need at least
three days' worth of recovery
before he could be moved.
Which means this could be
our one shot to take him down.
Yeah. [PAINED GROAN]
All we gotta do is find him.
Carlos Savina?
Are you absolutely sure
he was Dr. Harper's mystery patient?
Kasie confirmed it through
Colombia's DNA database.
The CIA never received intel
that Savina had a heart tumor.
Neither did the Colombians.
Not something the head of
the largest drug cartel
in South America would want advertised.
Because his rivals would seize
the opportunity
to take over his empire.
We're trying to figure out
how Savina entered the States.
Well, I'm more concerned about
preventing him from leaving.
NCIS went after Savina?
Yeah. Joint op with the DEA.
Savina was using maritime routes
to transport his product,
so we got involved.
I take it he eluded capture.
And killed two good agents
in the process.
I signed off on the raid myself.
Their deaths are on me.
And since then I've had dreams
about taking Savina into custody.
If he's in Virginia,
I want to use every resource
- [ZAPPING]
- [PARKER SIGHS]
Go ahead. And it [ZAPPING]
[GRUNTS]
Okay, I've got a stiff neck.
McGee swore that this muscle stimulator
would work magic, but in reality it's
It's suboptimal.
[SCOFFS] Sub-suboptimal.
[CHUCKLES]
You know, back in my boxing days,
all I needed was, what,
five minutes in a tub of ice
and I felt like a million bucks.
- But then again, I was 25 years old.
- Yeah, yeah.
I don't think a tub of ice is gonna help
- either one of us right now.
- [CHUCKLES]
I mean, look at us.
We're the walking wounded.
Slightly different.
You were shot in the back,
and, uh, I was taking a shot
in pickup hoops.
Good point.
- [KNOCK ON DOOR]
- Yeah?
Just got of the phone with the FAA.
They're investigating a foreign aircraft
that made an unauthorized
landing two days ago.
You thinking it's Savina's?
I'm thinking it's suspicious.
Luxury private jet,
tail number bounced back unidentified.
Where did it land?
Private airstrip 50 miles south of here.
McGee and Torres are on their way now.
MCGEE: Look at that beauty.
That is a Pilatus PC-12 NGX.
Tim, have you ever thought about
becoming a pilot?
Well, I'll keep my feet
on the ground for now,
but I'll tell you what.
If I ever buy one, that's it.
It ain't for sale.
NCIS. Special Agent Torres,
Special Agent McGee.
Jim.
Jim?
Just Jim.
Okay, Just Jim,
we're actually not here
about the Pilatus.
More interested in the Gulfstream G700.
I already talked to the guys at the FAA.
Well, we came all the way up here.
Why not talk to the NCIS guys, too?
There's nothing to talk about.
Two days ago I'm
pressure-washing the tarmac
when the G700 comes in;
it does a touch-and-go.
That means it comes in and it
Landed, took off without stopping.
- Do you know where it came from?
- No.
I don't know where it went, either.
Sorry you boys wasted a trip.
This guy
Hey, hey, hey, that's, uh
Your flight log?
All incoming and outgoing flights, yeah?
Hey, how much fuel does this truck hold?
About 8,000 gallons.
8,000 gallons.
The gauge says it's empty,
but the sticker says
it was filled three days ago.
Been a lot of air traffic lately.
No, not according to this.
No, it's been pretty slow
the last three days.
Where did the fuel go, Just Jim?
Agent McGee, is the missing fuel enough
to fill up a Gulfstream?
Why, yes it is, Agent Torres.
- Oh.
- See, the aircraft holds 7,000 gallons.
So let's try this again, Just Jim.
And all you got to do is nod
this time, all right?
That G700 landed,
parked and refueled, yes?
And when it was being refueled,
passengers got off that plane, right?
Was he a passenger?
They brought him off in a wheelchair.
Who's "they"?
There was five men, they had guns,
and they all drove off in a black SUV.
They said that they would
kill me if I talked.
So please, don't tell anyone.
Well, how can we tell anyone?
We don't even know your last name.
Hey, any luck tracking Savina's SUV?
Well, I put out a BOLO,
but I doubt we'll get any hits.
Black SUVs are everywhere.
This one is personal for Vance,
so I just want to look
under every rock.
Oh, well, I found a rock.
Don't know what's under it yet, but
this is Dr. Harper's
appointment calendar.
Notice anything missing?
Uh, appointments?
Exactly. No surgeries.
Not even a consult in
the past four months.
Odd, for a world-renowned surgeon.
In fact, there are only two things
on his entire calendar.
The weekly classes that he teaches,
and this.
"Meeting with Carrie." Who's Carrie?
I don't know, but they've been
meeting twice a week for months.
Couldn't find Carrie's last name
or a telephone number,
but I did find a video link
in the calendar event.
They met virtually?
Seems so. And lucky for us,
the next meeting starts
in eight minutes.
Care to join me in MTAC?
[SIGHS] Only if you walk slow.
PARKER: Hello. Carrie?
Oh, oops, I think I clicked
on the wrong link.
No, no, you didn't.
You're here for your meeting
with Dr. Erik Harper?
Who are you?
Carrie, I'm Special Agent Parker,
and this is Special Agent Knight, NCIS.
We were wondering what your
meetings with Dr. Harper were about.
Even if I wanted to tell you,
which I don't,
our meetings are protected by
doctor/patient confidentiality.
Actually, you're free
to talk to us if you want.
HIPPA laws apply only to
the doctor, not the patient.
I am a doctor.
Ah. So Dr. Harper was
a patient of yours,
not the other way around?
Was a patient?
Um [GRUNTS]
I'm sorry to inform you that
Dr. Harper was murdered two days ago.
Oh, my Lord.
What happened?
We're investigating that now,
which is why we'd like to know
the nature of your meetings.
Oh, of course, um
I'm Dr. Carrie Moran.
I'm a physiatrist.
Like a physical therapist?
With an M.D., yes.
Dr. Harper came to me privately
to ask for help
rehabbing a condition he developed.
What condition?
He had a tremor in his hands.
It's totally manageable for most people,
but for him, it threatened his career.
Well that explains why
he stopped performing surgeries.
How was the rehab going?
Slow. His tremor wasn't going away.
What would have happened
had he attempted surgery
in his condition?
Let me put it this way.
I wouldn't trust him to cut my steak.
A hand tremor?
I take it you didn't know about it?
Or maybe you did know about it.
I knew he was struggling with
something.
Why didn't you mention that before?
I didn't know what it was,
and I didn't push him for details.
When he decided to step back
from surgeries
to become a full-time instructor,
I figured he was burned out.
I had no idea he had a tremor.
What would have happened
if he was forced to operate on Savina?
Nothing good.
A heart surgery conducted
by trembling hands
would end in a bloodbath.
So, Savina could have been
the first patient that Dr. Harper lost?
That depends when he stopped cutting.
Well, if he stopped cutting in time,
- that means Savina's alive.
- MAN: Here for the pickup.
[SIGHS] Our weekly biowaste pickup.
I got to sign for that. Excuse me.
[SIGHS] No problem.
I got to call my office anyway.
Hey! What do you? Help!
- [MAN SHUSHING]
- Help!
- Help me!
- [CLATTERING]
- Listen.
- Get off of me. Ow!
- Listen. Listen!
- Get off of me.
Our boss is sick.
We're not going to hurt you.
We need your help.
We need you to make him better.
You're the people who took Dr. Harper.
And we're taking you, too.
Stop!
You need to take me, too.
[SPEAKING SPANISH]
Wait! Wait, wait, wait.
Dr. Logan can't do surgery without me.
If you kill me, your boss dies, too.
He's right.
We work as a team.
Who are you?
Doctor
Emmett Trowbridge.
Bring him, too.
Dr. Logan?
Parker?
There's been a struggle.
Look at this.
KNIGHT: Hey.
You guys get the same
emergency text from Parker?
Yeah. We pinged his phone
to this location.
Well, his sedan's
out in the parking lot.
Yeah, but Parker's not here
and neither is Dr. Logan.
I'll try him again.
[PHONE RINGING NEARBY]
Why'd he leave his phone like that?
Because he was recording something.
It's been running for 47 minutes.
Play that back from the beginning.
KNIGHT: A kidnapping.
Those have to be Savina's guys.
I don't understand
why Parker recorded this.
Why didn't he stop the kidnapping?
[CHATTER OVER VIDEO]
Because he was outgunned.
[CHATTER CONTINUES]
He posed as a doctor
to get himself kidnapped.
MCGEE: I'm not sure I like that plan.
Then you're definitely
not gonna like this.
PARKER: You all right?
No, I'm not all right.
It's okay to be scared.
I'm not scared.
Okay, I'm a little scared.
And a little pissed off.
Next time I scream for help,
bring a gun, not a stethoscope.
In case you hadn't noticed,
there are three of them and one of me.
So if I came out shooting,
guess who gets caught in the cross fire?
So, you decided to play doctor?
[SIGHS] I was outmanned and outgunned,
and I needed to outsmart them.
Ah, yes. This was very smart.
Hey. They're about to deliver
a federal agent to Savina's hideout.
To perform heart surgery.
I don't suppose you have
any kind of medical training?
No. But I watch Grey's Anatomy.
And Spies Like Us, apparently
Dr. Trowbridge.
Oh, you recognized that reference?
It's from a movie where two
men pretend to be doctors.
Don't worry.
My medical prowess or lack thereof
won't be an issue.
My team will rescue us before
I have to pick up a scalpel.
[GROANS]
GUNMAN: El Viento's medical file.
Study it.
Thank you, sir.
Call me back as soon as you know.
Kase, did you ID our kidnappers?
The one holding Dr. Logan
is Miguel Ortega,
Savina's head of security.
- And the other two?
- Oh.
Don't know, but I'm about
to get something better
than their names their location.
How do you get that from a video?
Check out the logo on their uniforms.
- Jolly Medi-Waste.
- That's a real company.
Dr. Logan's lab uses them
for their hazardous waste disposal.
So they stole the uniforms
to get in and out of the lab unnoticed.
Not just the uniforms.
The van, too.
I took this image from a traffic camera.
It's one block from Dr. Logan's lab,
seven minutes after Parker's
distress text.
So, Parker and Dr. Logan
could be in that van?
Well, I just spoke to Mr. Jolly
Wait. That's his actual name?
Apparently it's French.
He's got 12 vans on route today.
He contacted all the drivers but one.
That driver's not responding.
Do we have a location?
Well,
all his vans are equipped with GPS.
He's calling me back as soon
as he has a location,
- which is any sec Hello?
- [PHONE RINGS]
Monsieur Jolly's coming in clutch.
We got a location.
So
[GRUNTS]
Will you be able to save Savina's life?
I don't know.
Probably not.
The tumor's that bad?
Under normal conditions,
I could probably remove it.
But I have no idea
what we're walking into here.
Dr. Harper couldn't even do it.
Yeah. Because of his tremor.
Or maybe because he was
working at gunpoint,
without his surgical team,
in a homemade OR.
Truth is, I've never worked
on a tumor this large
- without Erik at my side.
- Hey.
You're gonna be great.
You know how I know that?
Because I read that article
in the medical journal.
And there was a lot of jargon
that I didn't understand,
but one thing was clear.
Dr. Harper believed in you.
And so do I.
They're going to kill us, aren't they?
They can't.
As long as we're performing surgery,
we're safe.
- What about after?
- There won't be after.
My team will find us before we finish.
Why do you keeping saying "we"?
Anyone in that OR will know
in five seconds
that you're a fraud.
Yeah. I've been thinking about that
and I have a plan. Once we begin,
whatever procedure you do, just
announce it to everyone.
And then I'll say, "I concur."
That's your big plan?
You concur?
It worked for Leo
in Catch Me If You Can.
That's another movie!
But it was based on a true story.
Let me explain something.
This procedure normally requires
two surgeons working together.
So if we do this,
you won't be faking it.
You'll actually have your hands
on another man's beating heart.
You ready for that?
No. I'm not ready.
But this is happening,
whether we like it or not.
So, yeah, as dumb as it sounds,
I'm at least ready to try.
I guess we'll try together.
This is probably not a good time
to mention this, but, um
I have a slight fear of needles.
Please let your team find us.
Oh
Ow.
- That's got to be them.
- Yeah.
Let's do this.
[HORN HONKING]
NCIS!
Out of the vehicle.
Parker!
McGee, unlock the back doors.
It's empty.
- Where are they?
- Who?
Where are they?
I swear, I don't know
what you're talking about.
He's not one of the kidnappers.
Doesn't mean he's not working with them.
Why didn't you answer the radio
when your boss called?
I-I didn't know he called.
I listen to my music really loud.
It's the wrong van.
[SPEAKING SPANISH]
[CONTINUES IN SPANISH]
Okay, we're here.
It's showtime, Doctor.
[SIGHS] You got any pointers?
Pointers? On how to be a heart surgeon?
I don't know.
Um, advice, then?
[SCOFFS] Since you're
clearly not capable,
try to be convincing.
Act the part.
Be arrogant and condescending.
Surgeon Attitude 101.
- Got it.
- And one more thing.
Whatever you do,
make sure you never, ever
We're here. Let's go.
[GROANS]
El Viento lives or you die.
[SPEAKING SPANISH]
It's my wife.
She's nervous, as you can imagine.
Especially after
what your partner did to me, Dr. Logan.
Yes. That was
unfortunate.
Unfortunate for him.
You don't have a tremor, do you?
I do not.
It says here
Dr. Harper taught you
everything he knows.
You think you're as good as he was?
For your sake, I hope I'm better.
As for you
Dr. Trowbridge, is it?
The article doesn't mention you at all.
Neither does the Internet,
which I find distressing.
So my question is
Who are you?
I have an M.D. from Harvard,
I am board-certified
in cardiothoracic medicine,
and trauma surgery.
I have been awarded citations
This isn't a job interview, Savina.
Dr. Trowbridge is here
to help remove the cardiac paraganglioma
from your atrial wall.
Or if you prefer,
you can take your chances
with only one surgeon.
And we know how that
worked out last time.
Okay, Dr. Logan.
You win.
I hope you'll find everything you need.
We modeled it after the OR
at your hospital.
It's strikingly similar.
Except for the guns.
I'm sorry these aren't
ideal working conditions.
Well, you're not my ideal patient.
Be that as it may,
my life is in your hands.
And your life is in mine.
What the hell happened with the van?
It was a mix-up. Parker and
Dr. Logan were not inside.
So where are they?
We're working on that now.
Come on, people,
we have an unarmed agent
- who's a hostage of Carlos Savina.
- Okay.
I will not allow history
to repeat itself.
What do we got?
- Savina's operating room.
- Talk to me.
Well,
we know he had to build it from scratch.
Surgical tools, equipment, everything.
I just got off the phone
with a medical supply company
who said they sold a heart-lung
machine six days ago.
And delivered it where?
Buyer picked it up himself.
We're just waiting on
surveillance footage
to see which vehicle he was using.
Well, we need a lead,
we need a lead right now.
Great, thanks.
Well, I've got one right now.
Remote ORs, they have to be sterile.
Hermetically sealed walls,
plexiglass chambers. Now, Savina's men,
they couldn't build one themselves.
Which means they had to hire
professionals to build it.
Exactly. Company I just
got off the phone with
built this clean room one week ago.
Location.
Closed-down aerospace factory
in Thornburg.
Thornburg? That's only a few miles
from where Dr. Harper's body was found.
Go.
[BUZZING]
LOGAN: Dr. Trowbridge,
please pass me the rib spreaders.
The rib spreaders?
The rib spreaders, Doctor.
I need your help on this one.
Can you give us space?
We're about to open your boss's chest,
and that gun isn't sterile.
You've got an
"M.D. from Harvard," remember?
Bold choice to steal Alec
Baldwin's speech from Malice.
- You watch too many movies.
- Look who's talking.
Travolta. That's another classic.
Please stop.
Everything okay?
LOGAN: Everything's fine.
We're about to ratchet open his ribs
so we can work on his heart.
Ready, Doctor?
Of course, Doctor.
[GROANS SOFTLY]
LOGAN: That's enough.
Now, I'm going to attach
the cannula to his aorta.
I concur.
What's she doing, Doctor?
Uh, Dr. Logan is connecting
I mean, reconnecting the, uh
disconnecting the, uh,
cerebral cordial sequence.
- And where exactly is
- Quiet!
She needs to concentrate!
- No!
- Ow!
[GROANS]
Back to work, Doctor.
I'm sorry.
I can't.
You don't have a choice.
Look at my wrist. You broke it.
[GROANS]
Looks like you've been promoted.
[SPEAKING SPANISH OVER RADIO]
Drop the radio. Drop the gun.
[GUN CLATTERS]
Where's the key to the door?
[GUNSHOT]
Against the wall.
You all right?
Yeah. Thanks, McGee.
Found it.
LOGAN: Okay, the cross clamp
is on the aorta.
Now I want you to very carefully
take the cross clamp and squeeze.
Now?
Now would be good.
[PARKER GRUNTS SOFTLY]
Good. Just like that.
- [EXHALES]
- You okay?
Yep.
It might help if you look
at what you're doing.
No.
Oh. I forgot about your neck.
My neck is the least
of my problems right now.
You're doing good.
But under no circumstances
can you let go of the cross clamp.
Understood. Never letting go.
LOGAN: Okay, everyone.
Now that he's hooked into
the cardiopulmonary bypass machine,
I'm injecting potassium solution
in order to stop his heart.
This is necessary to save him.
Do you concur, Dr. Trowbridge?
Uh-huh.
[GUNFIRE]
What's happening?
The good guys are here.
[EXCLAIMS]
No, no. Don't run, don't run.
But we'll be killed.
No one here wants us dead.
Miguel!
Stop!
Drop your weapon.
I said drop it.
Or I'll shoot you.
You shoot me, and I'll shoot her.
You shoot her, Savina dies.
MIGUEL: Wrong!
I'll still have one doctor left.
[GRUNTS]
[MIGUEL GROANS]
Well, Doctor, should we close him up?
[EXHALES SOFTLY]
- Dr. Trowbridge.
- How you feeling?
Alive. Thanks to you.
Actually, it's thanks to Dr. Logan.
She and her team removed your tumor,
and then transported you
here to the Medical Center.
SAVINA: Huh?
What's going on?
I'll let your visitor
explain everything.
Well
sometimes dreams do come true.
Carlos Savina.
You son of a bitch.
You're under arrest.
Parker. How you holding up?
Good, good, thanks to you.
I'm just about to check on Dr. Logan.
How's she doing?
She has a distal radius fracture.
She's recovering from wrist surgery.
Oh. Did you perform it?
I observed.
She's got some rehab ahead of her,
but I already set it up
with Carrie, the physiatrist.
She'll make a full recovery.
Yeah, I heard Savina's gonna
make a full recovery, too.
Did you actually perform surgery on him?
Dr. Logan did most of the heavy lifting.
Eh, you probably
should've just killed him
when you had the chance.
Hey, hey, Jess.
We're doctors, not God.
The Hippocratic Oath says,
"First do no harm."
But that's something you might
not understand until you
put on the scrubs and hold
a beating heart in your hands.
- Go right in, Doctor.
- Thank you, Doctor.
Dr. Trowbridge.
Dr. Logan.
How you feeling?
I could be better.
But I could be worse.
I know what you mean.
This is Special Agent Knight.
Parker tells me you were very brave.
Well, I had a good partner.
Mm. And how is he as a doctor?
- Useless.
- [LAUGHS]
But he's one hell of an agent.
Glad you got over your fear of needles.
Uh, no. No, I didn't.
I'm gonna be having
nightmares for months.
I don't suppose that
you have a prescription
for that, Dr. Logan?
Please, after everything
we've been through,
you can call me Clara.
PARKER: Oh.
Okay, Clara. You can call me Alden.
Alden.
I like it.
Oh, there they are. The heroes.
You are the heroes.
Well, it's what we do.
And we're just glad you guys
are both in one piece.
Except for my wrist, and his neck.
Yeah, listen, Nick, uh,
I'm not gonna be able
to play in the basketball game
in the morning.
MCGEE: Oh, I-I'm sure that's
the last thing Nick's thinking
about right now. Right?
I'm just happy you're alive.
Parker.
Come on.
- Come on, bring it in.
- All right, all right.
[GRUNTS] Ow! Ow! Nick!
Nick, put me down, put me down.
[GROANS] Don't ever
do that, man, that's
You're welcome.
Whoo!
Well, that's
That's amazing.
I don't know what to say.
Well, just say you're gonna
play the big game
tomorrow, Baby Hook.
Hey, that is Dr. Baby Hook to you.
Champions.
Torres two, assist Parker.
Why don't we, uh, get out of here
and let the good doctor rest?
Take care of that.
Hey, Alden.
Yeah?
Thank you.
Right back at you.
