No Good Nick (2019) s02e10 Episode Script

The Fool's Errand

My name is Nick Franzelli and everything you know about me is a lie.
I wanted to get back at you for what you did to me and my dad.
So I pretended to be a relative to get close to you.
I don't understand.
Get back at us for what? For shutting down Franzelli's.
I know what you all did.
I know Molly was the one who posted lies and fake reviews about our restaurant.
She ruined our reputation and drove our customers away.
You did that? And when I spent the last of our money printing up menus to get our customers back, Jeremy stole them all.
It was our last chance to save the restaurant and Jeremy took it away.
Oh, my God, I And I know Liz undercut our prices and did everything she could to drive us out of business.
And I also know that Ed broke the bank rules by refusing to give my dad an extension on his loan, even though he was a perfect customer.
How could you do that? I know.
You all did it to help Liz.
But you didn't care you were ruining our lives.
My life.
But we didn't know.
I mean, I didn't know they were doing these things for me.
We weren't trying to hurt you.
It doesn't matter.
You did hurt us.
You went after us.
And you destroyed us.
So you came into our house and pretended to be my family just to get revenge? You took what I loved from me.
So I wanted to take what you loved from each of you.
I released the video of Molly talking about the Volunteer Squad.
I planted the stolen ballots.
I released the rats.
Oh, Nick.
And I didn't mean to get you in trouble.
But I stole Ms.
Chang's necklace.
What? You set me up? No! No.
I did it to pay off my dad's debts.
So I could get my family back.
But nothing was supposed to happen to you.
I didn't mean to hurt you.
You just meant to hurt the rest of us.
I'm sorry.
I thought getting revenge would make me feel better.
I thought it was balancing the scales of justice or something.
But I was wrong.
Getting revenge didn't solve anything and now I feel worse than ever.
But if If you can find it in your heart to trust me one more time I know I can fix this.
Officer, get in here! This girl stole the necklace.
I'm not going to say I told you so, but I do want to say one thing.
I was right and everyone else was wrong.
I was right, everyone else was wrong.
Jeremy! Now is not the time to gloat.
Okay, that's fair and I'm sorry.
But, seriously, I was right about her from the beginning.
No one believed me, but I was right.
You were all so sure, but I knew.
Enough.
Put a sock in it.
I was right and you were wrong.
Okay? Now I'm done.
I was right.
Jeremy, this isn't a joke.
Everything she ever told us was a lie.
She's not an orphan.
Her dad is alive.
And she was She was never my friend.
I treated her like a daughter.
We trusted her.
We loved her.
Listen I'm not saying what she did was right, but look at it from her point of view.
We ruined her life.
So you think she was justified in coming in here and doing this to us? No, of course not, but I'm just saying I can understand her side.
She thought she was getting justice.
She thought we deserved everything that happened to us and maybe she was right.
But did she have to pretend to love us? So what happens now with Nick? We have no say in what happens to her.
Yeah.
She's not even related to us.
She's a criminal.
She's in the hands of the courts now.
You can't detain a minor without an order from a juvenile offender judge.
She admitted to stealing the necklace.
To get her boss at the bank off the hook.
Come on.
I can't believe you bought that story.
We're taking her home.
Now.
Fine.
Well, looks like I have to let you go.
We're remanding you to the custody of your foster parents until your arraignment.
I do believe she stole that necklace, so you'd better try and talk some sense into her.
If she tells us where she hid that diamond, the judge will go a lot easier on her.
Could we have a moment alone with her? And, no, we don't consent to any surveillance.
You really screwed the pooch on this one.
You'll be lucky if you only get juvie.
How did you let this go south on you? Ms.
Chang came back to the bank too soon.
It turns out, when she moved all her accounts to Ed's bank, they upgraded her to a larger safe-deposit box.
When she saw the necklace was missing the security footage showed Ed was the last one to access the box.
Well, if you set him up as the patsy, why were you the one in cuffs? I didn't set him up.
I didn't plan this.
Oh.
What she did do is go soft, start blabbing to the cops.
The only good news in all this is they can't pin anything on us, since we never even knew you were stealing a diamond necklace.
It was supposed to be a surprise.
I stole the necklace for you Save it.
We know that you were stealing for your dad.
And guess what? That makes him an accessory after the fact.
Receiving the proceeds of stolen goods will get him an extra five years in prison.
Once we turn him in.
You can't do that.
Well, that's up to you.
We want the necklace.
Where is it? I hid it at the Thompsons' house.
Here's the deal.
You're going to go back to that house to get the necklace.
But we're going to be watching the whole time.
You're going to knock them out, like we planned from day one, and then we are going to collect that necklace in person.
Along with everything else in that place.
I can't go back there.
I can't I can't betray them again.
You don't have a choice.
Actually, you do.
The Thompsons or your father? Oh, come on, don't be like that.
The Thompsons turned you in to the cops.
They don't care about you.
Not anymore.
Fine.
What are you doing? I've been standing here for half an hour trying to take these letters down.
Why is this so hard? Because you loved her.
I loved who I thought she was.
But she was pretending the entire time.
She lied to me.
She betrayed me.
She turned all my friends against me and left me totally alone.
I treated her like my sister.
And she never cared about me at all.
Of course she did.
Look, nobody was more suspicious of her than I was.
Okay? But Even I never doubted how she felt about you.
This is Nick's.
What do we do with it? Donate it, throw it out.
Who cares? Really? So that's it? We just never see her again? Would you want to? Come on, Ed.
You don't get it.
She looked me in the eye when I said, "I love you," and then turned around and betrayed me.
Do you know how much that hurts? I wanted to make her my daughter.
I wanted to send her off to college, I wanted to walk her down the aisle, and all she wanted to do was destroy us.
I know I could never forgive her.
Could you? Oh, look.
You guys are doing Nick's chore.
Another thing I will never forgive her for.
Nick's jacket.
We can't stop thinking about Nick.
Well, maybe we should talk about it some more and try to get some closure.
Or we never ate lunch.
We could just do that instead.
I'll make something.
Hey, you know what I was thinking? Do you remember that first dinner we had with Nick? When she threw all the food on the floor and we ate cold pizza? Yeah, before that.
When we talked about me teaching you all to cook.
What if we make something? Together.
Nick would have hated this pizza.
Not enough Parmesan.
Well now we know why she was such a good cook.
She must have grown up in that Franzelli's place.
It was fun making pasta with her, though.
I keep wondering how she pulled everything off.
What she did was super messed up, but it's still pretty impressive.
Yeah, she's a real role model.
Oh, come on, if you guys did to me what we did to her, I would totally take you down.
I can't believe you're taking her side.
I just can't stop thinking about what she must have been going through.
She's just a kid.
Think of the burden she took on when her whole life fell apart.
Getting money for her dad.
Avenging him, rebuilding the family.
Are you kidding me? She took down your restaurant.
You worked your whole life for that.
She got you expelled and, oh she got me arrested! Dad's right.
Because of her, no one trusts me anymore.
They all think I'm a liar.
Exactly.
But she's also the truest friend I've ever had.
She never competed with me, or one-upped me or tried to outdo me.
I could just be me around her.
I'd never had a friend like that before.
Yeah, she wasn't all bad.
She knew I was gay before any of you did.
But she respected my wishes to let me come out on my own terms.
It's just weird not having her here.
I'll get it.
Nick? I'm I'm just here to get my things if that's okay? What did the police say? What's going to happen to you? There's going to be some kind of court proceeding.
I'll probably end up in juvie, but I'm not sure yet.
Oh, sweetie.
I know.
I messed everything up.
So I'd better just get my stuff and be going.
Come on, Nick you can't leave without saying goodbye.
I just I can't.
Nick, my family needs closure.
You at least owe us that.
What are you doing here? I just came to say goodbye.
Just like that? No answers, no explanations, no nothing? You're right.
Ask me anything and I'll do my best to explain.
She's in.
Look, I I just want you to know I am so so sorry.
What I did was inexcusable.
Hurting you was the worst thing I've ever done.
How do we know that? How can we believe anything you say? I guess you can't.
The truth is, we did some pretty awful things to you, too.
I had no idea how important those menus were.
Looking back, I don't even recognize myself.
Why would I do something like that? Nick, I'm so sorry.
You tried to tell me about those reviews, but I wouldn't listen.
You tried to get me to apologize.
I wanted us to stay best friends.
I did, too.
We were all so willing to be ruthless to help our own family that it never occurred to us what we were doing to yours.
Actions have consequences.
And we have to accept our own responsibility.
And I have to accept mine.
Still we didn't deserve what you did to us.
But she didn't deserve what we did to her either.
You have no idea how much it means to hear you say that.
My mom died when I was little.
My dad is in jail.
I wish things could have been different.
I wish I could have been part of this family for real because I love you.
I love all of you.
Let's drink to that.
It's done.
Good work, kid.
Keys.
Liz and Ed's cars.
And Jeremy just got a used car.
Not sure if you want that, too.
Why wouldn't we want it? Let me show you where the silverware is.
Nice try.
Take us to our necklace.
What did you give them? Don't worry, it's totally safe.
They'll wake up in about an hour with a little headache.
That's all.
Blah, blah, blah.
Diamond necklace.
Wow.
It's about time.
The juice is finally worth the squeeze.
They never knew what hit them.
Oh, well, better them than us.
You know you are a pain in the butt, but I have to admit that you do deliver in the end.
We've trained a lot of con artists and we've pulled a lot of cons, but nothing like this.
Really, Sam? What? It's a nice watch and I've earned it.
Get Liz's ring.
It's enough.
Don't you have enough? She's so cute.
She thinks they're her real family.
She thinks they really love her.
We do love her.
It's a trap! You just got Ed-ucated.
You set us up? But how? We were watching you the whole time.
Ask me anything and I'll do my best to explain.
What do you want to know? Or maybe I should just start from the beginning.
Great job.
Now your dad's going down with us.
Actually he's not.
Nick cut a deal with the DA before you two even showed up.
The DA agreed to give Nick and her father immunity for any new charges against them in exchange for giving up you two.
What? Oh, and, of course, the necklace.
This isn't the real necklace? Sorry.
That one's a fake.
Sam and Dorothy Harbaugh, you're under arrest on charges of fraud, conspiracy, racketeering, endangering the welfare of a minor and attempted grand larceny.
We taught you everything you know.
We made you! Yeah.
But I don't have to be what you made me.
I can be anything I want.
Titanium package.
It's literally the best money I've ever spent.
I think our fake passing out really sold it.
I was right about her all along.
They were all fooled, but I knew.
Where is Nick anyway? Well? It's over.
You did it.
You took down Ed? Oh, boy, I wish I could have seen the look on his face.
No.
I didn't do it and I'm not going to.
What? Oh, man, don't tell me they got to you.
The Thompsons did some really awful things to us, Dad.
But you didn't have to borrow money from the mob or rob a convenience store in order to pay off your debts.
All of those were your choices and the Thompsons didn't make you do any of them.
And now, because of you, I've made a lot of choices I regret.
I I'm sorry that you feel that way, but you just don't get it.
Okay? And when you're older and you have kids of your own, you'll feel differently.
You see, in the real world I've been living in the real world.
Trust me, I know what the real world is like.
So, what, you're all grown-up now? Huh? You know better than me? No! But I know that you put me in an impossible situation.
I'll keep sending money to Paul to keep you safe.
But I just need to leave.
What's that supposed to mean? I love you.
But this is goodbye, Dad.
Wait.
Nick! Her bags are gone.
Look, there's a letter.
"Dear Ed, Liz, Jeremy and Molly You'll never know how sorry I am for what I did to you.
I've tried to fix things the best I can.
Molly, I talked to the Volunteer Squad and explained everything.
I asked them to give you another chance.
I can't bring back your 11,000 followers, but you've got three.
And that's a start.
Jeremy, I spoke to Principal Burke and cleared your name.
You can go back to school on Monday.
They're not going to let you be president since you didn't really win, but who knows? Maybe you can run again next year.
Liz, I sent an email to the Top Chef producers, explaining that the rats were a publicity stunt, and if they air the footage, I'll go public with the proof that it was fake.
We'll see if they let you back on, but at least you won't be ruined.
PS, I CC'd the health department.
And, Ed, the police have dropped the charges against you and I explained everything to the bank.
I'm sorry I couldn't take the cake you made for me, but it just didn't fit.
I know none of you can ever really forgive me.
So I think it's best for everyone if I just get out of your lives forever.
I'll miss you.
Love, Nick.
" Is that true? Can we really never forgive her? Let's go find our girl.
What are you doing here? You can't leave.
There's something you don't know.
What are you talking about? Since the Harbaughs got arrested, all the kids are getting placed in new homes.
I was packing up and I found this.
I thought it was a picture of you with Sam and Dorothy, but look how young the Harbaughs are.
This is my mom.
But how did the Harbaughs know my mom? I don't know.
You have to go back.
But I have nowhere to go back to.
Go back to the Thompsons.
I can't.
They'll never really forgive me.
I'm sorry.
But I told them where you were.
You did what? Listen to me, Nick.
You're lucky to have a family.
You can't give up on them.
Wait, Will What are you doing here? We came to take you home.
