Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (2022) s01e09 Episode Script

Chapter Nine: Dead and Buried

So, yeah.
- That that about covers it.
- So, Karen was pushed?
- And Tyler was
- Murdered, yes.
- Both by A.
- And A is the train car guy?
Crazy Joe. Joseph England.
You all went to school with him.
He's the one who sent us
those creepy text messages
and you all those "gifts."
It was a classic Agatha
Christie revenge plot.
He was in love with Angela
Waters in high school,
and years later,
set about punishing the people who were,
in his mind, somehow
a party to her death.
The sins of the mothers
visited upon their daughters.
Why didn't you tell
us what was going on?
A threatened us to keep quiet.
We were afraid of what he might
do if we didn't follow his rules.
After we found Crazy Joe's body,
we placed an anonymous
call to the police.
We're assuming they found Joe.
We're also assuming they
assumed it was a suicide.
Why kill himself? After everything?
We think probably because
Imogen busted his ass
discovered his identity,
where he was living.
Also, maybe
because he accomplished
what he set out to do.
Test us. Make us suffer.
"Punish the guilty." His words.
So, now it's time for
you guys to tell us the truth,
the whole truth
about your connection to Angela Waters.
We
were bullies in high school.
Horrible, mean girl bullies.
Angela and I
were in a secret relationship,
but I denied it
and said she was obsessed with me.
I talked Angela into getting a tattoo.
Even though I knew she'd
get in trouble for it
with her holy roller mother.
I was smoking outside of school.
And when the janitor caught us,
I made Angela say that it was just her.
I wasn't a good friend to her.
Angela confided something in me,
something I should have helped her with.
Her assault?
But why?
Why were you all so cruel to Angela?
What was it about that girl?
It-It was a different time.
Girls were meaner in the '90s.
Angela was
- an easy target.
- It was a game.
A, a terrible game.
What about my mom?
What did she do to Angela?
Ms. Haworthe?
One Halloween,
Davie thought it would
be funny to make Angela
throw filth at someone's door.
And after Angela did it,
Davie drove away in the car,
and we all just left her there, alone.
So what happens now?
We keep talking to each other
so nothing like this ever happens again.
But otherwise, everything
stays in this room.
And after tonight, we move on.
In light of everything,
I wanna try to get clean.
For real this time.
Are you thinkin' rehab?
No. I'm gonna do it myself.
Here, at home.
I'm a nurse.
I know how to detox.
- That sounds messy, Mom.
- It is.
That's why I, I need you to go
and stay at Shawn's for a few days.
I don't want you to be alone.
I won't be.
I reached out to my sponsor.
- Grace is coming?
- She's on her way right now okay?
But you can help me with something.
What? Anything.
Can you cover my
shifts at Pinball Pizza?
For sure.
I'll go tomorrow after school.
And it's really okay
for me to crash here?
Of course. Yeah, my parents
are totally cool with it.
So long as I, "sleep on the floor."
Got it.
Is your mom gonna be okay?
Um, yeah It's just the flu.
But I can't get sick
or Coach D will kill me.
Might be a few days.
Stay as long as you want.
I love that you're here.
Thank you, Shawn.
Hey. I know we're both tired
but
we still need to talk about
what you told me.
-It's okay. We don't have to.
-We do, baby.
I can't make the same
mistake I made with Angela
with my own daughter.
Do you really have no idea
- who hurt you?
- I really don't.
It was
a blur.
And I'm assuming you
didn't go to the police?
Should we go there now? Together?
If he's still out there,
don't you want him caught?
More than anything, but
it's not just about me.
Imogen, she was also
- Oh no.
- We think, maybe, by the same guy.
Aw, you girls. You girls
have been through so, so much.
We'll be okay, Mom.
We just need a little more time. Okay?
Shawn?
Shawn?
Shawn!
It's 4 AM. What's happening?
Couldn't sleep.
Was gettin' some reps
in. I'm almost at 350.
I'm sorry I woke you, babe.
Fuck it.
Shawn
we need to talk
about the pills you're taking.
You mean my supplements?
I'm pretty sure they're
performance enhancers.
Half the team takes them.
- Greg, Bobby
- Shawn,
you told me you weren't taking steroids.
I'm not an addict.
You know how important
football is to my family.
Yeah, well, football season's over.
I'm also on the basketball team.
Well, now you're just coming
up with excuses to dope.
I know all about those.
What about the inhaler
that Beau gave you?
I used it once and
then I threw it out.
Know why?
"A," 'cause it's illegal.
And, "B," 'cause who knows
what that shit'll do to my body.
Same with those pills.
Can you stop?
Please?
I just
I ju I can't handle
juggling two addicts in my life.
Hey.
Yeah, okay
but not cold turkey.
I gotta wean myself off it.
Oh my god, oh my god.
Oh my god.
I hate lying to my mom,
but it's just until we
get the DNA results back
- from the blood drive.
- That will be a relief.
- Or, most likely, it won't.
- I know that tone.
What are you thinking, Imogen?
If Crazy Joe wanted us dead, he
- could've killed us in his train car.
- Don't remind me.
And when he found me
at the Waters house,
it was almost like he panicked.
Okay, we've talked about this, but
what if Crazy Joe wasn't A?
What if A killed Crazy Joe,
then staged it to look like a suicide?
To, like, throw us off the trail?
Digesting.
It could be his MO.
And and maybe A killed my mom
and made it look like a suicide.
Imogen, do you really
believe that's what happened?
I don't know anymore, Tabby.
But, if it didn't,
then that means that my mom must've felt
way guiltier about what she did
than your moms, and that
that just
doesn't reconcile with
who I know my mom to be.
I hear you.
But, at this point
how can you even find out what
really happened in the bathroom?
I'm gonna go talk to
the coroner after school.
You cannot do this, Kelly.
Father Karras is counting on you.
You can't just abandon him.
I'm not abandoning him,
Mama. I can do both.
Why are you two yelling?
Kelly volunteered to help Father Karras
with a youth group at St. Maud's.
But now, she's she's
working on a dance piece
with one of those girls who hurt Karen.
Faran didn't hurt Karen.
And you would like this
piece, Mama, it's biblical.
Can't count on the girl for anything.
Like father, like daughter.
I thought we decided you
were done with dancing, Kelly.
Not dancing.
Just "Swan Lake."
It's a shame. I was relieved.
And let's face facts, you never
were the dancer your sister was.
You know, Dad, we all miss Karen.
You're not the only one in pain.
But you are the only one
who's lashing out like
like a drunk bully.
And if there were any
justice in this world,
it would've been you who
slipped and not Karen.
Fuck you!
You're so troubled, Tom.
So tortured.
Sorry I didn't text you back.
Last night, I had this traumatizing
"Come to Jesus" with my one mom.
Then I got home and my other mom
actually asked me to set her up on
lesbian dating apps
which was somehow
even more traumatizing.
Holy shit.
So, are they for sure
done-done with each other?
I hope not.
But how are they supposed
to work things out when
they refuse to be in
the same room together?
Wait.
Your family loves Disney movies, right?
They don't call me
Minnie Mouse for nothin'.
Well
I think it's time we
"Parent Trap" your moms.
Oh I am
definitely down to pull a Lindsay Lohan
and force a face-to-face
between them.
Great idea.
Usually with these check-ups,
it's just you and me, Imogen.
I know, Nurse Simmons,
- but
- I wanted to be here.
You know, to be supportive
but I won't say anything else.
Well
everything seems to be on track
for the 38th week of a pregnancy.
- Not too much longer now.
- Oh.
The only thing I am
slightly concerned about
is your blood pressure.
It's a little high.
My whole life is one big anxiety attack.
Hypertension can lead to risk.
So, it is of paramount importance
that you stay calm, Imogen.
No outside stressors, understand?
Oh my god, Faran!
I am living for your new look.
Oh you noticed?
You're giving off some
serious fire emojis right now.
Thanks.
I'm trying something new.
For the first time in my life,
I'm giving myself permission to
let down my hair and go natural.
- New project, new look.
- Well, it is working,
and major props to you
for starting an independent study
on top of everything else
that we're dealing with.
I mean evolve or die, right?
And not to diminish
the role of a dancer, which I still am,
but choreographers shape the story.
Like with "Forbidden Fruit."
My interpretation of
the Adam and Eve story.
When we shot your version of "Psycho,"
honestly, that's what
inspired me to talk to Giry
- about creating a dance piece.
- Really?
Aw!
- I am obsessed with this lovefest.
- Ditto.
I heart us.
Whoa.
Is she wearing Karen's clothes?
Not this shit again.
Well what do you think?
I mean it's awesome.
Any notes?
Nope.
But, if you want,
I could lend you some of
my equipment for your shoot.
Wait, like your Red Komodo camera?
Yes
but you have to be super careful.
- The lenses scratch really easily.
- Okay.
What can I do for you, Ms. Adams?
I'm here to confirm the cause
of my mother's death, Dr. Brundle.
Your mother's wounds
were self-inflicted.
Yeah, but couldn't someone
else have attacked her
and staged her death
to look like a suicide?
There was no evidence
to suggest a murder.
Look, I just don't think
my mom would've done that.
So, please
is there any way to double check?
I could perform an autopsy.
- Fantastic.
- But
you'd need to file a petition
for exhumation.
Fine. Who with?
The County Sheriff.
What's going on, Henry?
This isn't something I wanted to text.
Okay shady.
After school, Kelly and I
were rehearsing the apple
scene from your piece,
like you asked.
- And she kissed me.
- She what?
That bitch kissing you
was definitely not a part
- of my choreographic vision.
- It wasn't a make-out, and I called
- her out as soon as it happened.
- What'd she say?
That she just got
caught up in the moment.
- Ugh.
- And it wouldn't happen again.
I appreciate your honesty
but I am going to talk
to Kelly about this.
I figured.
W
Was Kelly really the one
initiating the kiss?
Uh, yeah.
Why would I wanna kiss
Kelly when I have you?
It's just
you haven't said anything
about my new look.
Yeah, I noticed
if that's what you're asking.
And you look gorgeous.
Why didn't you say so?
To be honest, I didn't
want to risk offending you,
saying the wrong thing.
But you look incredible.
Uh, then again, you
always look incredible.
That's enough of that.
Say goodnight, Prince Charming.
Cinderella has homework.
I can't believe you "Parent Trapped" us.
Well, we're here now.
Might as well all get
to know each other.
Excellent idea, Mom.
Mm-mm.
- Thanks, Noa.
- You got it.
And refills are on the house tonight.
So, Ash, as a young
trans man in Millwood
are you ever scared?
I'm so, so embarrassed and so sorry
my moms are insane.
- All those questions were
- Were intense,
but I think her heart
was in the right place.
God, it's just all
dysfunction all the time.
Mouse, did you ever
reach out to your dad?
Yeah, we reconnected on Thanksgiving.
Well, if you ever want the
three of us to do something,
like, you know, go bowling
I'm down.
Um
that maybe could be arranged.
Hi, princess.
What the fuck do you want?
I'm here to collect tonight's
tips like I always do.
Wait, you harass my mother at work?
- She owes me, is all.
- She doesn't owe you anything
or want anything to do with you.
Be seeing you.
Where've you been?
The last showtime was at 7:30.
Sorry, I was working on my short
with Wes. He dropped me off.
Would it kill you to text me the
next time you're running late?
Definitely not. I will
text you next time, sorry.
I love you, Mom.
I'm going upstairs to do my homework.
It's late.
Imogen's already in bed.
Yeah, we had to stay and do inventory.
Wes gave me a ride.
Wes gave me a ride.
Exhuming a corpse isn't like
petitioning for a traffic light.
I would need an awfully compelling
reason to take it to the judge.
My mother didn't kill herself.
She was murdered.
Is that compelling enough?
Murdered how? And by whom?
And why come to me now
months after the fact?
Remember how badly
you wanted to know what happened
to Karen in those rafters?
I need to know what
happened in that bathroom.
If there is even a chance
my mother didn't choose to leave me
that would make all the
difference in the world.
All right, Imogen, I'll help you.
Really?
Thank you. Thank you.
But I will need the consent of an adult.
Davie's next of kin.
Would
my father qualify?
Hi, Kelly.
Anything you'd like to share with me?
- Henry told you?
- He did.
- It was an accident.
- Oh, come on.
It was a mistake. I'm sorry.
Okay, I don't know what
I was doing or thinking,
so just please get off my case.
Things have been really,
really intense at home, and I
Kelly your leg.
Oh god
um it's my period.
- Sorry, I have to go.
- Kelly, what is that?
It's my sewing kit.
Kelly, talk to me.
It's my dad.
I mean, he's always been bad,
but it's gotten so much worse
for my mom and I since
It's like he resents
that Karen's dead
and that I'm alive.
- I'm sure he doesn't.
- Oh, he does.
- He said as much.
- He's a lunatic, okay?
Do not listen to him.
And, hurting yourself is not the answer.
What do I do, Faran?
Sometimes I wish the same thing he does.
That I was Karen.
- Or that I was the one
- Don't say that, Kelly.
Don't even think it.
Fuck him. Fuck your dad, okay?
Just promise me you won't
hurt yourself anymore,
and that you'll talk to someone.
Why are you being so nice to me?
My sister and I were horrible to you.
You were.
Yes.
But
maybe we can break that cycle.
Yo, table for five?
Noa?
Why aren't you guys
at basketball practice?
We ended early. Why aren't
you at track practice?
Um
I'm covering my mom's shift.
I lied.
My mom doesn't have the flu.
- She-she's at home detoxing.
- Wow. Of course, she is.
You of all people should not judge.
Hey, don't compare me to your mom.
I mean, it's not like I'm
taking drugs recreationally.
Neither did she.
For the record, my mom started
using to help with the pain
from working long hours and
being on her feet all night.
I didn't know about your mom. I'm sorry.
If you truly mean that
throw away those pills.
I already did. You can check my bag,
you can check my locker,
you can check my room.
Yo, Noble, are we
ordering, or going, or what?
We'll go.
But I'll see you tonight.
I'm gonna go check in on my mom,
but I'll text you.
And, Shawn
thank you.
Get away from my daughter.
Mom? What are you doing here?
Get away from her, I said.
- Tabs?
- How old are you anyway? 30?
I-I'm in my 20s.
Makin' a teenage girl work late,
givin' her rides home.
I was helping Tabby with her shot list.
'Cause you were grooming
- her preying on her.
- Mom, please.
I made a move on her one time,
- and I apologized.
- That's it. Motherfucker,
- I am callin' the police.
- The police?! Wait, hang on.
Mom, stop! You don't
know what you're doing.
I am protecting you
from this, this rapist.
-Oh!
-Oh my god! Mom, come with me.
If I see you within
10 feet of my daughter,
- I will cut your fuckin' dick off.
- Mom!
Mom, seriously, you need to calm down.
Do not tell me to calm down,
not after what he did to you.
Wes didn't do it.
He He wasn't the one.
Nine times out of ten,
it's someone you know.
Maybe but we think
it was someone at school.
- Probably a jock.
- A jock?
We were both at parties
with a bunch of football players.
Then, then let's tell
that to Principal Clanton.
Mom we have a plan.
We collected DNA
from a bunch of students,
from the football team's locker
room, from the blood drive,
and we're comparing it
to DNA from Imogen's baby
to see if there's a match.
- What?
- Noa's mom is helping us.
If there's a match from that group,
then we can go to the
police or whoever you want.
Look, given everything,
we thought that the more proof we have,
the more chance the people in charge
will actually do something.
I'll talk to Corey.
See if she knows
anyone in the DA's office
to help us navigate this.
You know, I'm really
glad we're doing this.
Aren't you, Mouse?
Yeah definitely.
And, Ash you're a good guy.
I'm glad my little girl's
dating someone like you.
Thank you, sir.
Your daughter is a rock star.
I can't take the credit for that.
Her moms are responsible.
And I'm hoping to make up for lost time.
Uh sorry, I should take this.
Why don't you two pick
out your bowling balls?
You're lucky you caught me,
Bryant. I was on my way out.
I'm here to talk about Kelly.
Your daughter's cutting herself.
Do you understand what
I mean when I say that?
- I do but Kelly's not doing that.
- I've seen the blood.
And she's doing it
because you're abusing her.
I have never laid a hand on my daughter.
I mean verbally emotionally.
So I'm here to do
something no one, it seems,
has ever done before,
hold you accountable.
I know all about the boy.
Or is it boys?
How you abuse your power.
Make them give you favors.
Olivar is gonna get
herself hauled back to juvie
- if she keeps spreading lies.
- Noa didn't tell me anything,
but now I can't wait
to ask her about it.
What do you want, you little bitch?
If you so much as raise
your voice to Kelly
while I get her the help she needs,
I'll blow the whistle on you.
Also, I recommend you step down
as Community Service Leader,
effective immediately.
You really shouldn't be
around young people
Sheriff.
What's so funny?
Are you going somewhere
Dad?
- Do not call me that.
- What's
going on? What happened?
I have to leave right fucking now.
What was all that with your mom?
Just an epic misunderstanding.
My mom thought Wes had been
inappropriate with me.
Has he been? 'Cause to be
honest, I've wondered.
Wondered what, Chip?
I mean, has Wes ever
tried anything with you?
Once, but nothing happened.
And, um, where's this coming from?
- Are you jealous?
- What? No.
And anyway, aren't you into Imogen?
Only 'cause you wouldn't give me a shot.
Wait, are you saying
you're not into Imogen?
Because she's definitely into you,
- so if you're not
- I am, I am.
Good, 'cause I don't
want her to get hurt.
And I don't want you
to get hurt with Wes.
He's said things, okay?
- What things?
- How he wants to fuck you, okay?
He's a creep, and I don't
trust him, so just be careful.
Hi Dad.
What brings you here, Imogen?
I need your written permission
to exhume Mom's body.
I don't believe she killed herself.
I think there's more to
the story, but I need proof.
I, uh
I brought the form.
You know, Imogen, when your
mom and I were first together,
she struggled on and
off with depression.
How
serious?
I mean
bad was it?
She saw therapists
took medications.
There was a push and pull with her.
Sometimes it would be like she
had gotten on the other side of it,
and then
it'd be bad again.
Around the holidays?
Yeah.
There was one New Year's Eve where
Davie took a combination
of alcohol and pills.
Maybe it was accidental,
maybe not.
Dad, did she ever open up to you?
About why she was struggling?
I think maybe somethin'
happened in high school
because she wouldn't talk about
that time in her life much either.
Mm-mm.
You know the thing I'm wrestling with
is the mom I knew wasn't that way.
She loved life
radiated love.
Yeah.
Well, that was because she changed.
She eventually completely
emerged from her depression.
What happened?
What turned her?
You did.
When she got pregnant with you,
her whole outlook on life transformed.
No more pills
no more days in bed.
She said, "No little girl
will be more loved than Imogen.
No little girl will
be more cherished."
What about you?
Why didn't you want me?
Imogen, I couldn't take care of you.
Not the way you needed.
Livin' next to a quarry's no
place for a young girl to grow up.
Davie knew that.
But even after she died?
It's not what your mom wanted.
Drew it up in her will
years after you were born,
that if anything ever happened to her
you would live with Sidney Haworthe.
Davie said she'd take care
of you like you were her own.
Is that true?
Is she taking good care of you?
She is.
I'll sign whatever you need.
Not just because I should
but because I know you're right.
Your mom would never
choose to leave you.
Thank you, Dad.
And, um
- if you can think of anything else
- I'll call you.
I will.
Promise.
Nine times out of
ten, it's someone you know.
But Wes wasn't at the parties.
Tabby.
- You wanna sip?
- No, I'm good.
Come on, it's a party, Tabs.
A party that you wanted to come to.
Chip, are you sloppy drunk right now?
Definitely not.
Let me get you some water.
Tabby.
Wait, wait
I don't think of you that way.
We're friends, Chip.
- Best friends.
- Right.
Probably should've
figured that out by now.
- I'm gonna go.
- Uh, wait, Chip, I'll leave with you.
Honestly, Tabby, I just think
I'd rather be alone right now.
It happened the same night
as that fucked-up party
at Karen's house back in March.
Mom? Everything okay?
Oh my
Guys, my mom heard from the lab.
She got the DNA results.
There's a match.
- Was it a football player?
- No.
No, the match came from the
blood on one of the cotton balls,
not the locker room.
Oh my god.
So, our process of elimination worked.
And now we know it wasn't a jock,
but some other creep at school.
These are the names of all
the boys who donated blood.
There are 66 of them,
so one of these 66
is the person who did this to me.
And maybe Tabby.
So, what happens now?
I'll take the list. My mom
said she'd talk to the D.A.,
help us figure out next steps.
Well, we have to retest those 66 boys.
Sixty-five because it
definitely wasn't Henry.
Or Shawn.
- Or Ash.
- Or Chip.
You invited me to a party, Greg.
Over the summer, in the
woods behind the school
with a bonfire.
- You were there.
- Yeah.
- Do you remember?
- Yeah, I think so.
Okay, great.
Well, can you remember if
one person, specifically, was there?
Chip My friend.
He helped us with the "Psycho" shoot.
- Could he have been there?
- Maybe?
I do remember some nitwits crashing.
- It's possible.
- Okay.
Um, why can't you just ask him?
Stephanie you have
to buy me milk today.
What do you want, Steve?
No you know what? Don't answer that.
I don't actually give a shit.
- I am done play-acting with you.
- It's Rachel.
They found her.
What?
Oh, oh my god. Where?
- Where was she? I-Is she home now?
- No, Mouse
they found her body
in a landfill.
Oh, Steve, I'm so sorry.
Can I see you please?
I need someone to talk to.
Of course.
Where are you?
Sheriff Beasley, any news?
What kind of game are you playing?
I told you it would take
some time for the judge
to review your request, but you
just couldn't wait, could you?
Wait for what?
I'm at the cemetery.
Your mother's grave is
dug up. Her body's missing.
- Rachel.
- Steve.
- Rachel.
- It wasn't your fault.
I should've been looking
for my only daughter,
but no.
No, I, I was playing.
I, I was playing with, with you.
Oh, Rachel. Daddy's so sorry.
Don't, don't answer that.
I'm not.
What can I do?
Tell me so I can help.
Um
uh, m-maybe, um
maybe we should call my moms?
Here put these on.
Rachel.
Mom, what's going on?
- Your father was arrested.
- What?! Why?
Apparently, his tail light was out,
which makes zero sense
because he just replaced them.
And they're telling
me he resisted arrest.
- That doesn't sound like Dad.
- Of course not!
It sounds like some racist
Millwood cop abusing his power.
- I'll come with you.
- Absolutely not.
My Uber is here. You stay put.
I'll I'll get your father home.
Mouse cut out of school early
and she hasn't been
answering my calls or texts.
We had kind of a crazy night
with her dad at the bowling alley.
Mouse has been in touch with her father?
Yeah. I've met Steve
a couple of times now.
That's not Mouse's father's name.
Dee, what are you doing?
I can track Mouse's location.
Yes, Shirley, I can track our daughter.
And right now, we should
all be thankful for that.
- What the fuck is he doing here?
- Noa.
- Noa. Noa!
- Get the fuck out of my fucking house!
- Stop it!
- Get the hell out of my house!
Listen to me.
Baby, listen to me. I called him.
- I needed the help.
- Help? From him?
You don't need that kind of help, Mom.
Oh! Mouse, thank god.
Mouse, honey, what are you doing here?
My motel room is
literally down the hall.
And why are you dressed that way?
Wait, I know him.
Mouse, what's going on?
Um my friend
Steve, got some
bad news today about
his daughter, Rachel.
I don't understand.
We were, um playing pretend.
Both of us.
But now
the game's over.
I'm so sorry.
- Faran!
- Kelly,
I have to talk to you and your mom.
There's something you need
to know about your dad.
Oh my god.
With
With boys from Community Service?
I-I had no idea.
He's gone off the deep end,
went after my dad, and
it's gonna get worse.
Dad, hey um what's going on?
I remembered somethin'.
I don't know what started
your mom's troubles,
but she did mention her high
school sweetheart once or twice.
- Maybe he can help.
- What-What was his name?
Some Tom somethin'. Tommy.
Tom
- Beasley?
- I'm not sure. Maybe.
Did you know, Mama?
Yes.
He's always had his demons.
Even back in high school
when he
he forced himself on that poor girl
just to prove something.
Mom?
Oh my god.
Mrs. Beasley?
What poor girl?
Her name was
Angela.
