Jenni Seckel's Diary

[SCHOOL BELL RINGS]
[CHILDREN] I pledge allegiance
to the flag of the
United States of America.
Watch out. We're going to school.
I gotta get them all there by 8:45
and then go to the grocery
store, run errands, then go.
Do you all have your lunch
boxes? I swear to God!
- [BOBBY] No!
- Mom, I forgot my backpack!
- Don't make me pull this car over.
- I want a snack.
You're all grounded. We're not going
to Party City anymore. It's over.
- Wanna know who we're helping this week?
- Yeah!
Yeah, you do.
"Our hero this week is Jenni Seckel."
- Hi, Miss Seckel.
- Hey, Miss Seckel.
You got some moves
this morning? All right.
"Six years ago, Jenni
became the principal
of a charter elementary school
and has dedicated herself to
the students and her career."
- Aw, well, that's beautiful.
- Yeah.
- Are you ready to be a fourth grader?
- Yes.
Being a principal is the best
thing that I have ever, ever done
and probably will ever do.
Show 'em how we stand straight
and tall. Look so proud.
At the end of the day,
it's just real human work
and touching, like, real lives.
- Yeah!
- Yes! All right!
And so, for the last six years,
I was all-in.
"Jenni is credited with
transforming the school
- into a fun, joyful, safe place."
- Good job.
It's giving me, like, Matilda
during Miss Trunchbull,
and she is like Miss Honey.
Yay!
[TAN] "Jenni's friends at school,
Theresa and Seymone, nominated her."
- Nice.
- A typical day, Jenni is just, like, everywhere.
She's always in the
hallways talking to teachers,
in classrooms talking to
kids and meeting with parents,
and sometimes she is
straightening her hair
[THERESA CHUCKLES]
because she does not take the
time to, like, put herself together
before, like, she comes to work.
I don't do anything but school.
It was worth personal
sacrifices at that time,
but, yeah, I did lose myself.
First few years of being
principal, I gained weight,
and I was, like, 50 pounds
heavier than I had ever been,
and I think I just
slowly started feeling
less and less comfortable with my body
and less and less, like, good about it.
[TAN] "Almost a year ago,
Jenni left her job as principal
and moved into a regional
supervisory position,
but it's been difficult for Jenni
to transition into her new role."
"She still hasn't moved out
of the principal's office."
"Seymone is actually the new principal."
Now we know why the current
principal's nominating her,
'cause she wants her to get
the hell out of the office.
- Get out!
- It all makes sense.
[SEYMONE] It's time for
her to just cut the cord
and really start focusing on her future.
It's funny because she'll
give you all the best advice,
but she's not always
doing those things herself.
She's constantly comparing
herself to what I'm doing
and what her friends are doing
and the milestones they're hitting.
I've been a bridesmaid a lot of times.
It's not like I have that
big, thriving social life here.
I haven't really dated,
and so I feel like, literally,
my biological clock is ticking.
"At 35 years old, Jenni worries
that her chances of becoming
a mom the old-fashioned way
may be fading away."
"Six months ago, Jenni was set
to have an insemination procedure,
but her nerves kicked
in, and she opted out."
I've always wanted to be a mom,
but it felt like I would be giving up
on what I'd always seen for myself,
and at this point, I still
wanna hold out hope for
the fairy tale.
It's never too late.
Never.
I think she definitely
needs, like, a big push.
And that's, I think,
what led us to this place.
"At the end of this
week, Jenni is hosting
her office's
first-day-of-school reception
for regional staff
and school principals."
"It'll be the first time
she'll entertain in her home."
- I love that bridging of her two worlds.
- [TAN] Yeah.
"Our mission this week
is to teach this educator
how to learn to love herself."

- Good for you.
- That's major!
It's insane how different I feel
in the last, like, three weeks.
- Yeah.
- I feel lighter.
Like, I wake up in the morning, and
I'm not only thinking about work.
I also have other things
I think about and do.
Like what? Are you dating now? Is
that what else you're thinking about?
I have two dates lined up for this week.
Yeah!
Get out there, mama!
- What do I have to lose?
- Amen.
And, Tan, not in, like, a fake
"American happy" way that you told me.
[AS JONATHAN] As an American,
I can say I can tell
that you're truly happy.
[LAUGHING]
- We love you, and we're so happy for you.
- Yeah.
You deserve everything
that's coming towards you.
Wish me luck on the dates!
[FAB FIVE] Yeah!
- She don't need the luck!
- Bye, sweetheart!
- [KARAMO] She got this.
- She's radiating.
- Yeah, she was.
- It's beautiful.
- High five!
- Good job, kids.
- High five!
- High five.
[ANTONI] We were never
good at that part.

Want the waves without the
heat? Try this heatless wave set.
Gives waves for days, and
your hair doesn't get damaged.
Ah! Plus, if you have textured hair,
this is a great way to
preserve your blow-dry.
Also, if you're like, "I don't
wanna spend money," just use tights.
Almost works the same.
Look at that technique on
TikTok. It's genius. [CHUCKLES]
Ah!
[ALARM RINGS]
Heatless waves? How cool!
