Rollin' with Zach (2011) s01e01 Episode Script

Los Angeles

Hi !! I'm Zach Anner and my life has changed in a BIG WAY ! Zach, you have shown us that you deserve to have your own show.
I'm going to make that happen.
- WOW! That's right, that's Oprah giving me my very own show, where I do what I've always wanted to do.
Get out and see the country.
I'm going up THAT ?? - Yes, you are.
On this trip, we're in Los Angeles.
And, since I'm a pop-culture junkie, there's no better city to explore celebrity and entertainment.
As I countdown the top 5 things I want to do here, we're going to famous places, celebrity hangouts, and a hidden spot where I'm going to learn to dance like a pop star.
On this show, there are no limits! I may have cerebral palsy, the sexiest of the palsies.
But, nothing is going to stand in my way.
Actually, I'm scared.
Because, life is an adventure.
And sometimes, you just gotta roll with it.
Rollin' with Zach Season 1 -- Episode 01 "Los Angeles" Hey! I'm Zach and we are at the top of the glorious Ritz-Carlton here in downtown Los Angeles.
You know, the last time I was in LA, I didn't get to see much of the city because I was, uh busy winning the show that you're now watching.
So today, on Rollin' with Zach, I'm checking out the city that sets trends in pop culture.
And, I'm not sure what to expect.
But, I do know there's nothing more trendy these days than being green.
So, I'm taking LA's Metro to my first stop So, I'm taking LA's Metro The Price is Right.
Escalators?? Or, elevator?? I think I'm more of an elevator guy.
So, I'm gonna go this way.
Los Angeles is the undisputed home of television.
And, for #5 on my countdown, I'm going to see a taping of television's longest running game show.
As a devoted watcher and a proud owner of a television, there's only 14 words I have longed to hear my entire life, Zach Anner, come on down, you're the next contestant on The Price is Right! On the air since 1972, The Price is Right chooses contestants right from an audience that lines up every morning.
So, today, I'm lining up with 299 other people to see what it takes to get on this show.
Who's ready to go on THE PRICE IS RIGHT !! If you really want to get picked you've gotta have a lot of energy.
Debra! - Yes!! What's your last name? - Ricks.
Debra Ricks, come on down, you're the next contestant on The Price is Right!! (Cheers) Okay, so Debra's got the enthusiasm.
But, she's lacking one of the essentials a pimped out T-Shirt.
You've got a Plinko shirt? Is is playable? - It is playable.
Did you make that yourself? - Yeah, 6 hours of work.
Thank you.
- That's pretty good, but I've got something.
(crowd roars with cheers) Whipping out the big guns, now! In each show, they call down an average of only 9 people.
A casting coordinator sees everyone and decides who gets on the show.
So, what do you do for fun? - Well, I travel and I watch The Price is Right.
I believe, The Price is Right should have been first on the list.
I, what - Ah! Busted! I didn't want it to sound like I didn't have a social life, but that's true.
Thanks for coming to see us Zach.
Thank you, so much.
Go, make a lot of noise in there, okay.
I'm gonna be screaming, WHOOOP! Now, it's on to the holding area where we wait to get brought on to the set.
I was wondering if it might be possible to, umm, get backstage?? Uuh, we don't normally do that.
How about a shining 'Honest Abe'? I can't take it, no.
Okay, okay.
Take it as a friend and then do what you can.
I tell you what, I'll go check.
I can't take anything.
I'll go find out, though.
- Stick it in your jacket.
I can't, I can't.
I'll go find out.
That dude, is uncorruptable.
Hey, Zach.
- Hey.
I just talked to the guys.
Normally, we don't do it, but I think we can make an exception Really!! Wow! So, we're backstage at The Price is Right.
This is where all the prizes and games are kept.
It's like seeing part of television history, and it's nuts.
Let's go check it out.
I am a Plinko fan.
- So am I.
Oh, My God! Oh, it's so much bigger than on TV.
$10,000.
I feel it! I feel it! Uh, oh.
Oooo! I'm in the money! I'm in the money! I can't believe I got the chance to explore the backstage at The Price is Right.
One Dollar! One Dollar! I hear the music sounds like it's showtime.
Let's see if my luck holds out.
Zach Anner, come on down Being brought onto the stage is a dream come true, even if it is just for a rehearsal.
It still counts! Be sure you tune in and watch his best show on Oprah Winfrey Network! Thanks for the plug, George.
Coming up I'm working some serious moves.
And, style.
I think the problem that we're running into is I'm more classicly trained.
Later surf's up! Don't get the camera wet.
Celebrity culture takes a lot of forms here in LA.
One of the hottest trends right now is dance.
So, for #4 on my countdown it's time for this kid to realize a dream I never thought was possible.
Learning to work the dance floor like a pop star.
Located in Silverlake the Sweat Spot claims to be able to turn anyone into a dancer by teaching them professionally choreographed routines.
The dance master behind it all is Ryan Heffington.
He's worked with everyone from Kesha to Brittany.
But, I may be in a different league than those two.
Yeah, that's nice you guys.
Cool.
Sir, Heffington? - That would be me, yes.
Nice to meet you.
It seems like everybody these days is really into dance.
Like, it's a huge thing.
What's so great about dancing that's not great about sitting? Because, I've been enjoying sitting.
Well, I think it naturally brings joy to people.
I think, the bottom line of it is that it's a great time.
- Yeah.
That it's more of a party - That looks like a party.
Yes.
- Wow.
(Chuckling) I would like to join the party, if that's okay with you? But, I feel like I might be under dressed.
Would you like to slip into something a little bit more appropriate? - Yeah.
Let's do this.
- All right.
Awesome, let's do it.
I'm still not sure if I'm gonna be any kind of a dancer.
But, I'm sure as heck am going to look like one.
Oow! One of us is going to have to change.
Because, we're wearing the same pants.
So, Zach, I'm gonna to teach you some moves.
And, we'll put you into this routine.
- Okay.
Seven, eight pump, pump.
- Yeah! Other side.
Ready? Three, four and, five.
Forward, two, three and, four.
Now, put them together.
Pump, pump, pump.
Pump.
I am not the most coordinated person in the world.
Go! - Five, and, seven Here, I'll have to buckle up, I'm getting serious.
And then, you can flow around your face.
Five, six Awesome.
And, center.
I think the problem we're running into, is I'm more classically trained in this.
(laughter) Well, let me kind of work that into it.
Ryan is a Drill Sergeant in Spandex.
Pump, pump.
He just throws you right in.
And, there's a learning curve and I'm on the wrong side of that curve, right now.
Left, right and look.
YES! Let's do it with music.
- Yeah.
Let's do it with music, okay.
There are some talented dancers in that class.
I just don't want to embarrass myself.
One, two, three, four, five, six, work it out! One, two, three, four, five, six Let it go! Uh, ha.
Uh, ha, ha.
Wooo wooo wooo Uh, ha, ha, very good.
Now, look right, now left! Now, spin around, Go! He called spin, we're going and I don't even know what I'm doing.
I'm just moving with it.
Ah,ah, ah, ah Now, forward.
Go, go! I don't care how ridiculous I look, I'm just having fun.
Now, work, work, work ah, ah, ah Dance, ah, ah ah, ah, ah, ah, YES! You guys GOOD! Yes, yes yes yes.
You're amazing, man.
You're sooo good.
Thank you so much.
I don't think I'm the best dancer yet, but we got some time.
- We got time.
We got time.
You know, I, uh, came into this being a little scared, but you know, you've proven that you can make at least a kind of a dancer out of anybody.
Yeah! I never thought that I would ever be a part of anything like this.
It may not be dancing to you guys, but it felt like dancing to me.
So, I am ready to take on the rest of LA and I don't want to change out of this outfit.
Coming up, it's Lights, Camera, Anner, as I star in my own milkshake.
We're making it mocha now! - Making it mocha now, baby.
Later Awesome, I trade my chair for a surfboard.
Actually, I'm scared.
As I face the biggest challenge of my life.
Having your own travel show has its perks.
So far, on this trip, I've been to The Price is Right, I've learned to dance, and now, it's time for my favorite activity indulging in something sweet.
For my #3 spot, I'm going to get a milkshake at a place where celebs go to get their sugar fix.
And, oh yeah, they're naming a shake after me at Millions of Milkshakes.
Celebs get to design their own custom milkshake.
And, that's what I'm here to do, today.
Zach Anner! - How are you? Welcome to Millions of Milkshakes.
- Thank you, sir, I appreciate it.
I'm so excited to make a milkshake today.
We're happy to have you here.
Now, who else has a milkshake.
Who am I up against? Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Lohan, Shaquille O'Neal, Flavor-wise, I can beat all those people.
- Absolutely.
I've been preparing for this, my whole life.
Let's go! - All right, thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen, Zach Anner! I'm at the Milkshake Mothership, now.
Yes, you are.
Can you tell me who is the best seller? That's a toss-up between Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian.
Wouldn't the Kardashian shake go straight to your butt, thought? (laughter) Let's get this going.
You're going to make your own special milkshake.
What would be one of the first ingredients that goes into a 'Zach Anner'? I'm a big coffee guy.
So, I would probably do like a, like a cappuccino type.
Okay.
Cool.
My secret recipe is coffee toffee, cookies, and, lots of chocolate syrup.
We're making it mocha, now, baby.
Making it mocha now, baby.
All right, and I would blend that up with all your might.
There we go.
Got a creation, man.
And, for the finishing touches, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
Oooh! Boom! Boom! Awesome, dude, awesome! All right, there you go.
You do the honor of the first taste.
(drum roll plays in background) Umm.
Oh, My God! That is sooo good! -Your whole face lit up.
I want everbody in this store to have some of this milkshake.
Can we give out some samples? - We can do that.
We can do that.
I'd like to introduce the world to Zach Anner's Handi-Cappucinno Milkshake! (Cheers) Who wants a free sample of Zach Anner's Handi-Cappucinno Now, I want reviews.
Delicious! I can't believe I got to have my own milkshake named after me.
That was one of the sweetest moments of my life.
Millions of Milkshakes!! I love the ocean.
But, until now, I never thought it was possible for me to go surfing.
That's right, this dude's gonna hang ten in Malibu.
But, before we do that, it's time for #2 on my list a stop at Venice Beach.
We made it! We're at Venice Beach, which is the number one tourist attraction in southern California, which means I'm one step closer to the ocean, baby.
But, before I go surfing, I've got to go through a sea of wierdos.
Venice Beach is not only known for its beach, but also for its 2 1/2 mile stretch of artists, fortune tellers and really anyone who wants to be noticed.
come, my wingate is the girl I want to know is you.
That's really good, man.
Your first time at Venice Beach? - Yeah.
Me too, man.
- We're going surfing, today.
You mean, on a surfboard? - Yeah.
Good luck, dude.
Besides the artists, you really can't help but notice all the muscles at world famous, Muscle Beach.
What muscle would I need to workout in order to not drown on a surfboard.
I don't know, I'm not a surfer.
Well, thanks so much.
- You're welcome.
Nice to see you.
Muscle Beach is great, but the real gun show's right here.
Since I obviously don't need to workout, I'm going to try my luck at another popular Venice pasttime, meeting girls.
Hey! - Hi! Do you come here a lot? - She - I do.
What do you do here? Just, people watch? People watch, walk around, shop.
Shop for a bunch of little trinkets, like rings all that kind of stuff like the little hennas that people just want to get, so.
So, you come here to buy rings and get tattoos.
Yeah.
We're actually, like, trying to get to, a, Malibu, to surf.
You know where Malibu is? That-a-way.
All right.
Thanks so much.
Bye! Get their phone numbers for later.
Venice pumped me up.
And, now it's finally time to do the top thing on my LA list surfing, in Malibu.
I'm meeting up with some people from an organization called, Life Rolls On.
They're actually part of the Dana & Christopher Reeve Foundation.
And, they make action sports possible for people with disabilities.
You looking forward to surfing? I am so looking forward to this.
I haven't been in the ocean in like a decade.
- Wow.
I have no idea what to expect.
I didn't even know this was even possible.
We're going to make it possible.
Can you tell me more about the program.
Like - Yeah.
How did it get started? I started it, you know, um, a couple years after I got injured.
I broke my neck surfing.
And, then a few years after my accident I got back in the ocean.
And, it just gave me so much freedom and peace, and independence.
I just wanted to give it back.
So, in 2001, we started with the help of one of my friends They will surf again, where we take people with disabilities surfing.
And, it just changes people's lives, you know.
And, what do I need to know before I get in the water? You just gotta loosen up your cheeks, so your smile can be big.
Okay, that's a got it.
Getting me down to the water, two handsome guys have to lift me into a wheelchair that can move on sand.
Don't get your camera wet.
Then I lay, chest first, on a huge foam board, grab onto the handles, and pray.
Coming up I'm about to get on the board.
If I don't make it back, tell my Mom I love her.
I'm almost done with everything I set out to do in LA.
But, there's one thing left.
Surfing.
I'm going in.
I'm about to get on the board.
I'm not scared, at all.
Actually, I'm scared.
I'm a little terrified.
Whoa! Okay.
This wetsuit is not working.
One, two, three, roll him.
If I don't make it back, tell my Mom I love her.
Let's start walking him out.
Here we go buddy, we're gonna get you a wave.
Are you ready? - All right.
All right, here you go.
Three, two, one When I wiped out, luckily, I'm a good swimmer.
So, I was sure that I wasn't going to drown.
I don't know about anybody else, on shore.
Want to get another one? - YEAH! Let's do it.
Three, two, one WHOA! Aaah! Yeah!! When I was riding that wave, it was amazing.
You're officially a surfer.
How was that? Oh, my gosh, it was so awesome.
When that wave comes, it's so fast and so liberating it's like best roller coaster you have ever been on.
Oh, WOW, I'm surfing! I love the ocean, but I've never been a part any watersports or anything like that.
And, surfing was incredible.
How was it? - It was awesome.
Well, I just surfed for the first time and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
And, you know, I came here to LA and I found some really amazing people doing incredible things.
Amazing people that surf, amazing people that dance, amazing people that make milkshakes, and it was just not what I expected.
And, for a guy who has cerebral palsy, I've never thought I'd be doing this.
But, anything's possible.
And, I can't wait to see what happens next.
