Unreal Tournament: Xan

[pulsing music playing]
[computer] Deploying Mech Team Alpha.
[Parker] Liandri wants us
to work 24 hours straight.
[Dean] Whatever, Parker,
let's just get it done.
The new task list is uploading
to the memory queue.
[computer] System initiated.
Equipment malfunction.
Come on, shit-bucket.
Go.
[Dean] It's rebooting,
just give it a second.
Work.
Piece of crap.
- [Parker grunts]
- [Dean] Parker!
No! Parker, hold on.
It's rebooting.
[computer] System initiated.
[Parker] Look, I fixed it.
[laughs] Better than ever.
[Dean sighs]
It's hard enough keeping
these guys operational
without you beating them to pieces.
[Parker laughs]
[Parker] Who cares, man?
Let's just go break some rocks
and get out of here.
Right, so get moving
or we won't make quota.
[computer] Deploying
all miners to station.
[computer] All miners report to station.
[intriguing music playing]

[Dean] Hey, ease up on intake.
We got a bot stuck down here.
[Dean] What?
Aw, no, man.
We're already behind schedule.
Just get clear.
[computer] Impact alert.
[computer] Deploying Mech
Team Alpha to mining station.
Deploying Mech Team Beta.
Deploying Mech Team Gamma.
- [dramatic music playing]
- Deploying
Deploying
[computer] Deploying Mech Team Omega.
[suspenseful music playing]
Well, at least you get to stop working.
[Parker grunts]
What? Let go!
[Parker grunting]
[grunts]
[shouts]
Let go.
I order you to let go!
[grunts]
Oh, God.
No.
[Gamemaster] In the cold gulf
between worlds,
machines rebelled.
We cannot fathom
what turned them from useful tools
into merciless killers.
But we know this.
They destroyed Liandri property.
They killed innocent miners.
And they murdered dozens of the brave
Liandri soldiers who protected them.
Who protect all of us.
And so we’ve brought them here
where you, our citizens,
can watch them pay for their crimes.
This will be a tournament
unlike any other.
Not just fame.
Not just glory.
This day our brave warriors fight
to deliver justice.
[pulsing music playing]

[announcer] Five, four
three
two, one.
[air horn blows]
First blood.
Double kill.
[laughs]
[suspenseful music playing]
[shouts]
[announcer] Killing spree.
[somber music playing]
I was expecting a battle,
not an execution.
Some theatrics.
A little drama
to make the message take hold.
Not this.
I mean, there’s nothing dramatic
about crushing the dream of a toaster.
Hopefully, the next round
will be a better show.
[Necris Captain grunts]
[exciting music playing]
[announcer] Five, four
three
two
one.
[heavy gunfire]
[bots trilling]
[announcer] First blood.
[announcer] Retribution.
[rapid gunfire]
[snarls]

[announcer] Head shot.
[exciting music playing]
[crowd cheering]
[Necris Captain] These machines
learn quickly.
They fought with coordination.
And they showed a surprising ability
to manipulate the crowd.
We don't want empathy to take root.
They only need survive long enough
to put on a good show.
[exciting music playing]
[announcer] Dominate.
[grunting]
[announcer] Taken the lead.
[technician] Their code
doesn't make any sense.
These models don't have combat protocols.
Dig deeper.
[grunts]
[exciting music playing]
[announcer] Double kill.
Multi-kill.
We should scrap them all. Now.
They'll be destroyed, Captain,
but in the arena,
so that these lowlifes
can witness the cost of rebellion.
[crowd chanting] Xan! Xan! Xan!
Xan! Xan! Xan!
Xan! Xan!
Xan. What's so special about this one?
Why do the others
sacrifice themselves for it?
Uh Some sort of anomaly?
A bug in the code maybe?
It's not a bug.
They're operating as a pack,
and Xan is the alpha.
Giving them an audience was a mistake.
[tense music playing]
I don't employ you to tell me
how to put on a show.
You're here to ensure the correct outcome.
You'll finish this, personally.
We've let the jackals play.
Now we feed them to the lions.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Gamemaster] Well
these machines have put on quite a show.
But now,
how will these mindless drones
fare against
Liandri Corporation's own Elite Guard?
[exciting music playing]
[announcer] Five
four
three
two
one.

[chuckles] Don't want to make it too easy.
[announcer] Head shot.
[gunfire]
[Gamemaster over comms] Captain,
we don't have time for camping.
[grunts]
[tense music playing]
[proximity mines beeping]
[Liandri soldier] Moving inside.
[Liandri soldier gasps, screams]
[grunts]
[screams]
[announcer] Assist.
[Liandri soldier screams]
[announcer] Rampage.
- [beeping]
- Oh fu--
[announcer] Lost the lead.
[Gamemaster over comms] Get in the tower.
Finish this.
[exciting music playing]
[grunting]
Oh, shit.
[grunting]

[dramatic music playing]
Oh, no.
[beeping]
[yells, grunts]
[announcer] Congratulations.
You are the winner.
[dramatic music playing]

- What does it think it's doing?
- Doing? It already did it.
Those machines' code
got past the firewall.
[suspenseful music playing]
[Gamemaster over video] so that
these lowlifes
can witness the cost of rebellion.
[distorted] Low-Lowlifes
Rebellion.
What the fuck is going on?
Cost of rebellion.
Kill it! Shoot that thing now!
[screams]
[panting]
[Gamemaster over video] Witness rebellion.
[dramatic music playing]
Rebellion.
- Rebel.
- [crowd] Rebel!
- Rebel! Rebel!
- [crowd] Rebel! Rebel!
- Rebel! Rebel!
- [crowd] Rebel! Rebel!
[crowd] Rebel! Rebel!
Rebel.
[exciting music playing]
