Shooter (2016) s02e04 Episode Script

The Dark End of the Street

1 - Previously on "Shooter" - Why are you doing this? - We work for you! - Waheed She just told her son to be quiet.
She called him Waheed.
I say we bug out before this goes sideways.
I'm not defending Pablo Escobar's summer home.
We sure about this? We burned $100 million worth of CIA dope.
You don't think there's gonna be some blowback? She's coming with us for more questioning.
Your orders were to hold her until we came and got her, dumbass.
[guns cock.]
Leave, or my guys bury you - in the sand outside the gate.
- Let's go.
Guard the chapel, even after they're gone.
I'm doing research on Afghani heroin and came across an article written by a reporter of yours.
Jeffrey Denning? Jeffrey Denning doesn't have a story.
If you talk to him, he will.
[tense music.]
[gasps.]
- Kevin! - [screams.]
[panting.]
Mary! I told you not to touch the hot stove.
- [neck snaps.]
- [grunts.]
The CIA's gonna go into damage control.
I had to protect the rest of the organization.
Which is why I'm trying to clean it up.
- [gun fires.]
- Someone is hunting 8113.
I'm serious, brother.
I don't need any help.
Get back to your car.
- [gunshots.]
- [groans.]
[gunshot.]
They killed Lin.
I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm not working with you.
You're gonna need my help.
Let him through! [engine revs.]
Ali, Kevin, time to roll.
Bring out the mullah's wife.
Roger that.
[rock music plays over radio.]
Man, tell me again why a heroin dealer's wife rates a UN escort and a three-car convoy? That's above my pay grade, Dobbs.
Copy that.
Captain Johnson - Good to see you.
- Good to see you too.
Hey, thanks.
Brass thought she'd be safer off base.
Happy to help.
You about ready to go? - Just about.
- [mouths.]
All right, y'all, be careful out there.
I'll have the QRF standing by, in case this little carpool goes sideways.
Oh, that's funny.
How many sexual favors did you have to pull to get TOC duty on this? - [laughter.]
- I don't know.
Captain? - Two or three.
- Two or three.
Damn, that's fewer than usual.
You must've tore that booty up.
Well, they do call me the Nailer.
- Both: Oh! - [chuckles.]
Hey, easy day.
Back before chow.
- Copy that.
- [mumbling.]
Captain Johnson This is Dr.
Wydra, just in from East Timor.
He'll be riding with us.
- Ah, glad to have you.
- Glad to be here.
All right, boys, let's saddle up.
[ominous music.]
[engines revving.]
[upbeat rock music.]
Baby, I know that you look good Everybody telling me that I should Well, I don't need to know that I could Baby, I see you looking my way You look cute Darling, what can I say But it's gonna take more than that To take you away Oh! Hold up, Corporal.
- Delta 7, all clear.
- What the hell is this? - Roger that.
- He looks hurt.
- What do you think? - I'm not sure.
- Keep your eyes peeled.
- Roger that.
[engine shuts off.]
[ominous music.]
Everything okay? Some jackass crashed his motorcycle.
Nothing to worry about.
So much for the cakewalk.
8113, watch your speed out there.
You okay? Ambush! [dramatic music.]
[dog barking.]
[ominous music.]
[sports announcer speaking over radio.]
[phone beeping.]
Oh, that's it, you got this.
[indistinct.]
Oh, no, God damn it.
You piece of shit! Oh, you piece of shit.
Yeah, I'm sorry, brother.
I know you guys were close.
Yeah, I've talked to Tio already.
They're bringing her back stateside.
I'll check in as soon as I know something.
All right, bye.
It's gonna be okay.
Why is everyone being so quiet? 'Cause we save all our talking for you, Mouse.
[chuckles.]
I just haven't had my morning coffee yet.
Hey, here you go.
It's the good stuff I brought from Europe.
Can I have coffee? That is a big fat negative, Stapler.
Why not? Because we gotta get you to school.
Come on, let's go.
When you get home, you can have a big huge cup of hot chocolate.
- [gasps.]
With marshmallows? - Of course.
- Like a million.
- Okay.
[chuckles.]
Come on, let's go.
All right, come say bye.
Oh, I can drop Mary off.
- [grunts.]
- Uh, you're sure? - Mm-hmm.
- Ready? Thanks, Estella, that would be great.
- Have a great day, sweetie.
- Okay.
Bye, Mousie, I love you.
I love you.
Is it even safe for her to go to school? Yes.
- Absolutely.
- Yes was reassuring.
Absolutely, not so much.
Honey, I know that you're scared, but you gotta trust me.
[phone trills.]
[soft ambient music.]
[solemn music.]
- What's that? - It's a barn door.
Gotta be that latch I've been meaning to fix.
I'm gonna go check it out.
[gasps softly.]
Great.
[sighs.]
[phone jingles.]
[sighs.]
Look, I'm not asking you to make peace with me, - but we need each other.
- [scoffs.]
- Man, do you hear yourself? - All I know is I lost the most important thing in this world to me.
And now with Dobbs You're a good enough marine to know you can't win this fight on your own.
How's the latch coming along? What in the hell is he doing here? I'm just trying to make this nightmare go away once and for - You gotta be shitting me.
- Look I'm speaking to my husband, all right? A broken latch? I mean, can I believe anything that you say? Sweetheart, I didn't wanna get you more upset and Solid plan.
I'm gonna fix this, and we won't ever have to see him again.
- [guns firing.]
- Jesus Christ! Talis! Talis! On the hill! Get down! Get down! Move! - [groans.]
- Smith's hit! RPG! [explosion booms.]
- [guns firing.]
- Watch it! Time to earn your pay, boys.
[guns firing.]
- Oh! - I've got five men at my 12:00.
Make that six.
- [guns firing.]
- [groans.]
Take cover! Get down! Stay in the car! Stay down! [guns firing.]
Stay down! Get down! We've got three Talis on the ridge-line - prepping a mortar.
- Stop talking about 'em and start shooting at 'em! [guns firing.]
Stay down.
It will be okay.
Jesus Christ! [guns firing.]
Ali, mind your ammo.
[guns firing.]
Copy that! [guns firing.]
That's that truck driving son of a bitch.
- Nail him! - Oh! You're all clear! [ominous music.]
[groans, wheezes.]
She's been hit! Close the goddamn door! Stay in the car! Help, please! Son of a bitch! [bullets clanking.]
- Damn it! - [guns firing.]
- [groaning.]
- Help, please! [guns firing.]
Go, go, go! I got you covered! [guns firing.]
- Nailed it! - Mind your ammo.
Jesus Christ, they just keep coming! [guns firing.]
Donny, keep your head down.
What the hell are you doing? She's dead.
Get down! You killed her.
[tense music swells.]
Check for stragglers.
Watch for IEDs.
It is my fault.
I opened the door.
I thought Calm down.
Tell me what happened.
I panicked.
I opened it and a bullet came through and hit her.
She had no pulse when I got here.
- Fenn? - I don't know what to say.
There was no incoming fire at the time the doc says she got Of course there was.
The bullet could not get there Please, Doc, one at a time.
- You sure? - I'm sure.
She didn't get hit by no bullet.
[tense music.]
The wound was too messed up to be sure.
- RPG! - Hold fire.
Stand down! Stand down! - He said RPG.
- Did you get a PID? Give me the badge.
- I need that.
- I ain't done with you, Doc.
There's some shady shit going on here.
We're gonna get to the bottom of it.
Give me my ID Hey, you might wanna rethink that, Doc.
Your man took my ID.
And as you know, the UN is considered protected.
I don't wanna hear it.
She rode with you, and now she's dead.
And my boys aren't taking a hit.
It's over.
Load the body up, give it to the UN.
Let's get the hell out of here.
[ominous music.]
Let's go.
Move 'em out.
Dr.
Wydra, you're riding with me.
Let's go, Doc.
Guys, let's go.
Never should've burned that heroin.
[phone buzzes.]
I'll be done here soon.
It should not take them long to find me.
Hey, I know it's not really my business, but she'll come around.
It's not you she's mad at.
It's the life.
A, this wasn't our life until you came into it.
B, you and I are not friends.
We don't make small talk, and you sure as shit don't give me marital advice.
- What are we doing here? - You're not doing anything.
Both slugs match.
Straight up gun fight.
Not that it matters, but your boy got off a headshot after taking one in the chest.
That's not easy.
That's it? Location doesn't seem off to you? Look, we get three cartel murders a month up here, mostly infighting.
And it sucks when it happens to a good man, but, um, this case open and shut.
- [sighs.]
- Look, I'm real sorry, Bob Lee, but I'd be lying if I said investigating would do any good.
All right, well, for argument's sake, if you were to look into it, where would be the first place you'd look? They got no issue killing cops, Bob Lee.
Ain't gonna be no different with a war hero.
I appreciate the concern, but Dobbs was my brother.
There's a neighborhood, if you can call it that, out off Highway 7.
You'll know the house when you see it.
Thank you.
Bob Lee they're packing military grade.
Be careful.
Noted.
[beeping.]
[solemn music.]
[click.]
Julie? Hey.
Just, uh, doing inventory.
Bob Lee has so many, you can never be too safe.
- What? - [gun cocks.]
I thought we didn't touch that safe.
[chuckles.]
I know how to handle guns, Estella.
Of course, uh, it was just surprising.
I I've never seen Bob Lee play with them like that.
I wasn't playing.
Have you ever talked to anyone about what happened last year? I'm fine.
Have you had a chance to clean Mary's playroom yet? I've known you a long time now, and the woman I see is not the woman I once knew.
You're jumpy and you snap at Mary.
You're saying I have PTSD? I'm just saying you should talk to someone.
Well, we don't have PTSD in this house, Estella.
I mean, Bob Lee and and Mary and I, we move on.
- It's just what we do.
- [doorbell buzzes.]
Hello? I got delivery.
I appreciate your concern.
Hi, can you please just leave it at the front door? You got it.
I have to run an errand.
Do you mind picking up Mary again, please? Of course.
Thanks.
[ominous music.]
[dramatic tone.]
- [sighs.]
- You're late.
Yeah, well, you said no pockets.
I had to go buy this.
Everything I own has pockets.
You wanted to talk.
I know you're working on a story about a heroin ring in Afghanistan.
I have some information you might be interested in.
And what do you want in return? Protection for a friend? A marine.
I want his name out of your story.
- See what I can do.
- All right.
It is true that a rogue agent of the CIA named Hugh Meachum had took over the Russian Orel operation back in 2011.
This story's bigger than Hugh Meachum.
You know, when he disappeared, he left a lot of unanswered questions.
He didn't disappear; he died a year ago.
And when he did, the operation died with him.
It's over.
You don't know shit, lady.
This is a waste of my time.
Wait, wait.
Are you saying that the op is still active? [solemn music.]
You ever heard of a rare earth mining company called Gravity Metals? No, should I? You recognize this man? Waheed Sakir.
I read he died in Frankfurt this week.
It doesn't exactly look like he's on the, uh, corporate fast track.
He's just the son of an Afghani poppy farmer.
Then why did Gravity Metals transfer him to their headquarters in Germany? I don't know.
Sounds like something Meachum would've pulled to keep the kid quiet.
But if Meachum died last year, then why was Waheed transferred two months ago? - How did you get that? - Oh, no way.
- You haven't told me anything.
- Well, what do you need? Why don't you show me how good your access in clearance are and find out why Waheed was transferred.
What do you see? These dudes sure like their guns.
We could set up overwatch there.
All right, you cover for me; I'll go in.
I don't have any family, and you're a better shot anyways.
All right, but don't draw your weapon.
Let me handle it.
[dark ambient music.]
[Latin hip-hop music playing over radio.]
[man rapping in Spanish.]
You lost? Not really.
Just looking for a little information.
Library's down the street, homes.
I don't think the librarian knows where the Fantasma Cartel stashes assassins when they come to town.
[tense music.]
- [gun fires.]
- Ah! - [gun fires.]
- Mierda! - What the fu? - You got guns; I got guns.
Like I said, I'm just looking for a little info.
Don't know about no assassins.
I run a home car repair shop.
You got a car that needs repair? Otherwise, get the fu out of here.
- [guns cock.]
- That's some real nice ink.
Kinda artsy.
It'd be a shame if it ended up all over the floor.
Stupid son of a bitch.
[gun firing.]
- Ah! - [groans.]
Where can I find this guy? He's white; just got to town recently.
Jose! Ah, sounds like you got your nephew killed - when you sent him to him.
- He's the fu ing devil.
[solemn percussive music.]
[engine ignites, revs.]
Trailer park by the on-ramp to Route 3.
- What the hell was that? - Got what we needed.
Do you wanna die? We're not friends.
What do you care? Coming in hot.
Got a wounded man here.
Get the MPF ready.
Y'all okay? Anybody hit in here? - We're good in here.
- Over here! Smith caught one on the shoulder.
Get him out of there.
Come on, get him out of there.
I'm not crazy.
I saw it with my own eyes.
That's my proof.
Really? You really think that's gonna fly in an after-action? While you were under heavy fire, you were able to discern that the UN doc was purposely trying to kill that lady? Captain, with all due respect, you don't treat a gunshot wound by putting your hand inside and then pulling it open.
I'm not questioning your logic; - I'm questioning your accuracy.
- Guys, hold up, - what what's going on? - I saw what I saw, and that's exactly how I'm gonna write it up.
Great, I look forward to redacting it.
Dismissed.
[sighs.]
What the hell went on? I have no clue.
[dark ambient music.]
It's the green and white one.
No car, no trash.
It's probably bugged out.
Or he knows we're coming.
No, no one's trying to pull a fast one here.
Sure, absolutely.
It's called expediting things, though, and, you know, there's a fee for that.
No, no, no, no, that's that's just called business.
Yeah.
[laughs.]
Hey, let me call you back.
I'm Toby Sloane.
And you are? Agent Memphis.
I'm investigating someone named Waheed Sakir, in connection with last week's terror attack in Frankfurt.
I see.
Uh, how can I help you? Well, he was moved from Afghanistan to Frankfurt about two months ago.
By this company I was hoping to look at his file.
- His file? - Yeah.
I'm just trying to understand how someone like Waheed, who had no skills or training of any kind, got help from a place like this.
You must be aware that for that kinda thing, you'll need a warrant.
Can I ask what exactly do you do here? Gravity Metals is a multi-commodity mining and exploration company with a focus on rare earth minerals.
- Which ones? - Excuse me? Which rare earth minerals do you focus on? - [chuckles.]
- What's your title, Toby? - Okay, Miss - It's Agent.
Agent Memphis, I'm really pretty busy here, so if you require any further assistance, I suggest you get a warrant.
Okay, well, thanks for your time.
Mm-hm.
[gunshots.]
[soft ambient music.]
[dark ambient music.]
[gunshots.]
Thanks, Mrs.
Swagger.
- I'll see you next week.
- Sounds good.
- Thanks, Gary.
- All right.
All right.
I see two avenues have approached from the north.
There's been no movement in over an hour.
How long you wanna wait this out? Until we get eyes on him.
We dropped fire on this asshole, he didn't even move.
This could take weeks.
We may not ever have eyes on him.
We're a couple hundred yards away from arguably the best shot in the world.
I'm not going in blind because you have a patience problem.
[chuckles.]
Yeah, I get it.
You get what? You're calling the shots now.
It must feel pretty good.
I'm not calling shit.
[sighs.]
Listen, man, I'm sorry you lost your wife.
I'm just trying to keep the same thing from happening to me.
[tense music.]
[gasps softly.]
You sure this is the same office? Positive.
[phone rings.]
Gravity Metals? Yeah, the copier's ready for pick up.
What the hell just happened? We found something we shouldn't have.
They shut it down.
- Who's they? - I don't know, but it would help if I knew who your source was.
[tense music swells.]
You gotta go somewhere and lay low.
What about you? There's someone I gotta talk to.
[tense music.]
Oh, shit, he's there.
Shit, here we go.
Isaac You [grunts.]
He's just baiting us! [dogs barking.]
Isaac! God damn it, Isaac! Isaac, stop! [gunshots.]
- Get down! - [woman screams.]
[gunshots.]
[ominous music.]
[gunshots.]
[dramatic tone.]
[ominous music.]
[gunshots.]
[glass shatters.]
[gunshots.]
[gunshots.]
Oh, God.
Isaac, get back! - [gunshot.]
- [explosion booms.]
[high-pitched ringing.]
[dramatic music.]
[door opens.]
Jesus Christ! Man, I'm outta here! [grunting.]
[wallops, grunts.]
[arm snaps.]
Ah! [groans.]
[engine ignites, revs.]
- [screams.]
- Watch it! Watch it! [tires screech.]
[gunshots.]
[mumbles.]
Shit.
[gunshots.]
Cease fire! There's people over there! [gunshots.]
[gunshot.]
Damn it.
[tires screech.]
[dark ambient music.]
[yelps.]
[groaning, panting.]
[yells.]
Ow [groans, pants.]
[groaning.]
- [arm snaps.]
- [groans.]
[yelling.]
[groans.]
[distressed breathing.]
Better hope the battalion commander doesn't do a spot check.
[chuckles.]
Who you think gave me the bottle? [chuckles.]
Of course.
- Speak, Marine.
- All right.
Donny's been my spotter for three years.
I love the guy, but I keep him around 'cause he's got the best eyes of any spotter I've ever seen.
If he says he saw something, he saw something.
I know.
So you think he might be onto something? Do I think an errant bullet went through the crack of a door and hit that woman's carotid artery? Improbable.
We gotta talk to that UN doctor.
I can't.
He's gone.
- Transferred? - Disappeared.
[solemn music.]
Shit.
This thing, man, this is like Plutonium.
I write this report, I'm basically accusing the UN of taking out a witness to a CIA-run heroin ring.
Now I know why you broke out the good stuff.
But it's just a report, man.
It's an account of what happened out there today; the facts.
Nobody's asking you to make any accusations.
How they choose to interpret it is their business.
[chuckles.]
You really think it's that easy, huh? It's not? Boy, I would love to be Bob Lee Swagger for a day.
Yeah, I know.
[chuckles.]
Julie? Hi, Father.
It's good to see you.
I heard you and Bob Lee were caught up in that Frankfurt attack.
You all have been in my prayers.
Thank you.
It was awful, but it's behind us.
Hm, is that so? In my experience, I find violence is hard to shake.
I also find that, uh, talking can be more helpful than lighting candles.
Hm? [sighs.]
I just I feel on edge all the time.
I mean, even when I do things that I I love, I just always feel like something awful is gonna happen.
Of course, nothing gets to Bob Lee.
Okay, first, what you are going through is is normal, is healthy even.
And Bob Lee isn't Superman.
Yeah.
You're right.
He's just really good at hiding all of his emotions.
Well, he's not unique in that.
I've known plenty who have mastered that skill.
[exhales calmly.]
Bob Lee has a road to walk.
And so do you.
Sometimes, you travel together; sometimes, apart.
The important thing is that you end up in the same place.
[groaning.]
- You shot me.
- In your chest plate.
You're lucky that's all I did.
- I had him.
- Like hell you had him.
- How many fingers I got up, huh? - [groans.]
That's what I thought.
You pull that shit again, I'll kill you in half a heartbeat.
Always gotta be the hero, huh? I'm not trying to be anybody's hero.
You did this.
You're completely out of control.
[groans.]
[ominous music.]
Change of plans.
I'll be staying a little longer.
Just like old times.
I met with Denning, that reporter I told you about.
Yep.
He's scared, and rightfully so.
Took some work, but I managed to get a name from him.
His source was Kurt Zehnder.
- Zehnder? - I loved the guy, but they say he hasn't been doing too well the last few years.
Yeah, Denning said he might've had some mental health issues, but apparently everything he brought him checked out.
All that was left was the transfer of a file he swore would corroborate everything.
What happened? Zehnder used a courier to get the file to Denning, but the courier never showed.
A week later, Zehnder committed suicide, and that's when Denning went underground.
What the hell did Zehnder have in that file? I don't know yet, but I did some digging and he's got a storage facility under a false name.
We're gonna go check it out.
But there's something else.
When I got back from Frankfurt, I had the Bureau's artist render an image of the guy from the hotel room.
He was posing as a German police officer.
I found him in Bob Lee's room.
Does this face mean anything to you? [tense music.]
Looks like the UN doctor from Afghanistan.
And it looks like the guy who did this to me.
- [yells.]
- Solotov Shit, Donny was right.
Solotov killed the mullah's wife, 'cause she knew about the heroin.
Now he's coming after us.
But why now? We found that stuff six years ago.
It's possible someone got wind of Denning's story.
Meachum was skimming off the top to run rogue black ops.
No telling how many hands were in that pot.
I met a guy in prison last year, Alexi Prosovich, he's Russian Mafia, dialed in.
Maybe he knows something.
Let's pay him a visit.
Okay, well, the thing we have to figure out is who hired Solotov.
How do we know it wasn't Gregson? She'd been trying to clean up that Meachum fallout for years.
Patricia's whole MO is border and containment.
You should know.
If she wanted to silence the 8113, there are much quieter ways of doing it.
Someone else is pulling the strings.
We find Solotov, we find the answers.
Let's just hope he doesn't find us first.
