[SUNNY] The person who paid to
have me killed is still out there
and you're the one who
brought the wolf to my door.
[JAKE] But there's something more here.
There is something more
and I know it and you know it.
Here's the difference
between the two of us
I'm not afraid of that!
I don't wanna mess this up.
I'll always be here.
[TESS] So, this whole time,
the intruder you were
looking for was you?
I'm still stuck in this apartment.
[TESS] Sunny, we're all a little stuck.
[♪♪♪]
[RADIO] Two victims
at Chastanet College
Gavin and Tracy Jones.
Suspicious possible homicide.
Chastanet College locked
down, protest in progress.
[GASPING DEEPLY]
[SUNNY] I just walked right out.
So? What do you think?
I-I think it's exactly what
we talked about you know,
you took a step, you
got out of the apartment.
I think it's great!
You don't think it's great?
Kye, I was sleepwalking.
I woke up on the floor
and the door was unlocked.
I don't know where I went,
I don't know what I did. I
Can we just look at
your security cameras?
Yeah. Sure. Yeah, sure.
[CLACKING]
[♪♪♪]
Okay, where are we here?
That's not you
That's not you.
[GASPS] [SUNNY] That's me.
No, no, no.
No, no, no. Where am I going?
[♪♪♪]
- Oh, thank God.
- See?
Just a little quick
in-and-out of the elevator.
That's weird, but,
uh no harm, no foul.
I am never sleeping again.
Uh, I'm not sure that
should be your takeaway.
Can I just
- log out here?
- [BEEPS]
- Kye, wait! Thank you.
- [EYESUP RINGING]
Why don't you get back to
work? Don't worry about it.
- I gotta go.
- [RINGING]
[DOOR SHUTS]
[RINGING]
- [INITIATES CALL]
- Ahem.
- [FORCED CHEER] Hey, Tess.
- [TESS] Hey.
I need your eyes at a homicide.
[CROWD SHOUTING]
[SUNNY] You're gonna want
to clock 30 degrees right.
Looks like a bake-off between
some incredibly well-dressed women
and something called "Sister Shift",
with a sprinkling of racist jerks
it's a weird combo.
Chastanet College invited Gavin
Jones to be a guest lecturer.
He's mostly famous for telling
women to stay in the kitchen.
[HEATED SHOUTING PERSISTS]
Uh, angry person to your right.
His wife is "TradMamaFarms,"
and she posts homemade meals
and reels of their kids
helping out on the farm.
I know the "trad life"
trend is controversial,
but why are people
so worked up about it?
No, it's not the trad-lifers,
it's the haters that come with them
the white supremacists, anti-queer
anti-everybody.
They hide behind the movement.
Who would've thought that
raising chickens and milking cows
would be so controversial?
- Well, vegans.
- Don't be fooled!
It's not family values
it's eroding equality!
[SUNNY] One of the
feminist protesters
she handed you a pin.
- Wait-wait-wait, Tess.
- [TESS] Sunny, which way?
To your left. No. No!
First rule of Blind Club is "no crowds".
I can't hear you!
Left! Keep left.
- What?
- [CROWD SHOUTING]
[SUNNY] Tess!
[TESS] I can't hear you! What?
Tess! To your left!
[CROWD SHOUTING]
[♪♪♪]
[MATT] Tess!
Tess! Let's get outta here.
Looks like the university
called the police.
[TESS] It's crazy over there.
- Are you okay?
- Yeah, are you okay?
- Yeah.
- [♪♪♪]
- [SUNNY] He's pepper-spraying him!
- Hey!
Let him go!
What?
[♪♪♪]
There's something in the shadows ♪
That cop just took him down and
pepper-sprayed him for no reason
- Sunny, did you see that?
- Yeah, I sure did!
[MATT] Send me the
footage. I'm reporting him.
Okay, listen, wait a second.
Wait a second. Let's
all just take a breath.
Okay? You're really worked up right now.
- Aren't you?
- I didn't see it.
I'm just trying to catch up here.
So you saw an officer
use unnecessary force?
Yeah! I saw it, too.
Okay, then leave it with me.
I'm gonna take it to Bennett,
and it'll have way more impact
than going through
public channels, Matt.
Thank you for getting me out of there.
I got this.
Okay.
[QUIET CONVERSATIONS,
INVESTIGATIVE BUSTLE]
[SUNNY] Fallen champagne glasses,
half-finished cake slices
and a body under a sheet.
- [JAKE] Coffee?
- Hey, thanks.
Don't worry. It's horrible.
Mm-hmm. Yep.
[JAKE] Okay. So, this was a homecoming
luncheon for Jones and his team
at Kith and Kin. Unfortunately,
protesters interrupted
the dessert course.
According to the guests,
once protestors are removed,
dinner resumes,
and then Gavin makes a toast,
after which he and his wife, Tracy,
collapse to the floor in convulsions.
They weren't able to revive Gavin,
Tracy was much luckier.
She's in an Emergency room,
in a serious-but-stable condition.
Rae says that, given
the parallel symptoms,
it's likely this was some kind of
rapid-onset poisoning or something.
Which means the killer
could be one of the staff
- or maybe one of guests.
- Yeah, maybe. I mean,
they sent the food and drinks
away to the lab for analysis.
Rae's gonna ping us
once the autopsy is in.
Meanwhile, we are just gonna hold off
on announcing the murder of Jones.
Word of this is gonna get
out. We have got to move fast.
So if the protesters
stormed the dining room,
where would they enter from?
Uh, emergency exit in
the kitchen. This way.
[SUNNY] Follow Jake at your 12.
Hey.
[SUNNY] Feel for the
counter, to your right.
Emergency exit?
[SUNNY] You got it straight ahead.
[♪♪♪]
- [ALARM BLARING]
- Oh! Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
[SUNNY] I think you
shattered my earpiece.
Latch plate feels sticky. Like
tape residue.
- Nobody reported hearing an alarm?
- No.
What, you think someone disabled
it to let the protesters in?
And then took the tape back off
after the protesters were removed.
I think somebody let this breach happen,
then hid it after the fact.
Let's see if the wife's awake yet.
- [ALARM BLARES]
- [DOOR THUDS, ALARM STOPS]
[♪♪♪]
Hi there. Uh, we're here
to speak with Tracy Jones.
Hi. Uh, Phil Larson.
- Gavin's Chief of Staff.
- [JAKE] Hi, Phil.
I'm sorry, I, uh ahem.
I can't believe he's gone.
Gavin and I worked together
for about six years.
Um, we were just about to
announce his move into politics.
I'm Tess Avery, police consultant.
[SUNNY] Wow! He just full-on
did not shake your hand.
It's not every professor
who has a Chief of Staff.
Yeah. Well
Gavin isn't just a professor, he's
the leader of a movement was.
Uh anyway, I'll let you see Tracy.
- [JAKE] Thank you.
- Um, just, uh be easy on her.
[JAKE] Of course, yeah. Thank you.
Oh, uh, ladies first.
[SUNNY] Jake's grinning at his own joke.
Mrs. Jones?
- I'm Detective Campbell.
- [DOOR SHUTS]
This is Tess Avery.
This can't be happening.
We're so sorry for your loss.
We are here to find out who
is responsible, Mrs. Jones.
Can you think of
anyone who might have
wanted to have hurt you?
[SCOFFS] You saw them out there.
All that hatred
Uh, why don't we just go through,
uh, what you remember from the luncheon?
Let's start with, uh, what you ate.
Um we had the chicken,
champagne, dessert,
and then we started to
to
[SOBS] Oh, I'm so sorry.
Hey. It's okay. It's
okay. There's no hurry.
Tracy, when the protesters
interrupted the luncheon,
do you remember hearing an alarm go off?
No. Just a lot of
obscenities and yelling.
Okay. Thank you.
- We'll let you rest now.
- My husband
he was my entire world,
and now he's gone.
Please, find who did this.
[JAKE] You certainly behaved yourself.
- "Behaved myself"?
- Yeah, all that "women's place" talk and
you know, the old Tess would've
strapped Tracy into a chair
and played her Liz Phair
records until she repented.
[LAUGHING] Yeah, well, I guess having
a constantly dissenting opinion
in your ear builds tolerance.
- I guess.
- Oh, you're welcome.
You know I hate the idea of
traditional roles, but what can I say?
I really hate the idea of
taking out the trash even more.
I tell ya, I would trade
taking out the trash
- for the laundry, any day of the week.
- Done.
What about dishes?
How about you cook, I clean?
- This is how it starts.
- I'll start with some coffee.
Jake! Tequila, next
Friday at Pogue Mahone's
purely for the irony.
We'll send you off proper.
[SUNNY] Jake wants Leo to zip it.
"Send you off" ? What's that?
Oh, he didn't tell you?
Jake's getting transferred to
some mystery temporary assignment.
- [SUNNY] What?
- No. That's nothing's for sure yet.
It's also confidential, there, Leo.
I mean, the story's gonna break
once you stop showing up at work.
Can you just do the thing
that you're here to do?
Background-checked all the caterers.
No criminal records, and all
employed for months without incident.
The guests were all
academics. No red flags.
Yeah, well, that door was
tampered with from the inside,
so somebody had to have
been working in there.
Yeah, and the word's already
out that Jones was murdered.
Things are ramping up on both sides.
- [NOTIFICATION CHIMES]
- We need to get a handle
on this case, A.S.A.P.
- [JAKE] Uh-huh.
- Campus police just went through
their security footage from the kitchen.
Sounds like one of the
Sister Shift protesters
snuck in dressed as a caterer,
and was doing something
weird with the food.
Name's Jude Miller, and
she's still on campus.
- You wanna go at her hard or soft?
- Soft.
If she asks for a lawyer,
then she's gonna slow us down.
- Okay, I'll come with you, all right?
- No. That's okay.
Sounds like your plate's full.
Ask him how long he's leaving for.
I'll talk to her, sister to sister.
[♪♪♪]
You called Gavin and Tracy Jones
"the scourge on feminism
that needed to be stopped".
Is that why you were in the kitchen
at Chastanet College today, Jude?
To stop them?
[SUNNY] She was not
expecting you to know that.
This where I call my lawyer?
We have footage of you
tampering with their food
right before they showed
signs of acute poisoning,
which killed Jones and
almost killed his wife.
What? No, I-I didn't
- Th this is not what it looks like!
- What it "looks like"
is you got a fake I.D.
and a catering uniform
- so you could sneak in and commit murder.
- [GASPS]
Do we meet your lawyer at the station,
or do you want to clear it up now?
I didn't poison any food
it was salt and pepper.
I was nervous, trying to blend in, okay?
I was just there to rig the
door open for the protest.
How'd you get past security?
Someone from Kith and
Kin sent me a badge.
- Who?
- I don't know. It was through Reddit.
They said they were an
insider who'd lost faith,
and they thought Gavin was
inciting too much extremism,
and wanted to shut him down.
I only know their user I.D
"Truthseeker25".
Do you smell that?
Gasoline.
[SUNNY] Tess, there's a fire!
They're using the protest signs as fuel.
Tess, stop!
Get out of there!
[YOUNG TESS, CRYING OUT] Lucas!
Lucas, where are you?
[SUNNY] What's up?
You know, you always swim when
there's something on your mind.
Nothing.
Is it Jake's transfer?
I can't believe he's leaving
and he didn't tell you.
Yeah, well, it's not for sure.
- Well, Leo made it sound pretty sure.
- [MATT] Hey, Tess.
Hey. Hey, listen.
I, um, I got a lead about
a Kith and Kin insider
that started working for Sister
Shift under the name "Truthseeker25".
Think you can dig
around, maybe I.D. them?
I could try.
- Cool.
- So,
So, what happened with the
officer from the protest?
Oh! Yeah. Bennett's
talking to his supervisor.
And then what?
And then they review the incident
- and he's reprimanded.
- Reprimanded?
For For tackling someone and
pepper-spraying them in the face?
Tess, you told me talking
to Bennett privately
would have a bigger
impact than going public.
Matt, it's more complicated than that.
- Is it?
- Look, they're dealing with him.
That's what you wanted, right?
- [PHONE RINGING]
- [MATT] Mm.
- Hang on.
- Call from Jake Campbell.
Jake.
Uh great! Okay. I'll be right there.
Right. Bye.
Listen, the evidence report and
the autopsy are in, so I gotta go.
Okay. You do that.
- [SUNNY] Matt looks pissed.
- [SIGHS]
- [RAPS ON DOOR] Hey.
- Hey.
Uh, so Rae got the panel back.
Um strychnine
poisoning highly lethal.
It's lucky that the paramedics
got to Tracy when they did,
however, there was no traces found
in any of the food or the
drink from the campus kitchen
- or the dining room.
- Okay, so Jude didn't do it?
Mm-mm. Looks that way.
Um
this all belonged to Gavin and his camp.
It was found locked up in
his office at the university.
There's a chewed pen to your right,
and a bottle of water next to it.
So, hey this transfer.
Yeah, I'm kinda still
deciding if that's for me.
Yeah. No, of course.
Well, what's the job?
Uh, Undercover Ops.
Yeah.
No contact with anyone outside the unit.
Wow. How long?
Well, as long as it takes, I guess.
Six months, maybe? Maybe more?
Six months?
Tess, did he say six months? What?
Sounds like a big job,
a good opportunity.
Yeah, maybe.
I don't know, maybe I
should stick around here.
I don't know. What do you think?
[SUNNY] Tess, he's asking
you what you think
about him leaving what do you think?
I think
Tell him!
[♪♪♪]
- You gotta do what's best for you.
- Are you kidding me?
If you think this is because
I have a crush on Jake,
sure, yes, but Tess, this is about you.
[INHALES DEEPLY]
Strychnine has a bitter taste, right?
Needs something strong to cover it up?
You mean strong, like coffee?
Or breath mints.
[♪♪♪]
[TRACY] The coffee is all mine,
but, uh, Gavin and I are
were both addicted to breath mints.
Could they have been tampered with?
We popped a couple after
breakfast and felt fine.
If someone poisoned them,
it must've been before lunch,
but they were locked in Gavin's
office, along with my coffee.
Okay, who had access to the office?
Gavin, myself
Phil, and Sam.
Okay, I'm checking the guest list now.
"Samantha Sinclair," she's
listed as Gavin's assistant.
So, Samantha was Gavin's
personal assistant?
That's pretty non-traditional of him.
Samantha and I have been
best friends since college.
[JAKE] Phil mentioned
Gavin's political aspirations.
We understand that, um
someone from Gavin's
inner circle didn't like
some of the new
followers and their ideas.
Gavin was a visionary,
and, sometimes, that attracts
followers from corners you
might not agree with, and I
I wish it didn't provoke a protest
everywhere we went,
but I was here to support my husband,
not question him.
Does the name "Truthseeker25"
mean anything to you?
No. Sam might know.
[SAM] I might know what?
- Oh, hi. Uh, Sam Sinclair.
- Hi.
Hi
- Hi.
- I brought you some personals.
And gifts from your followers
have been pouring in.
So thoughtful.
Sweetheart
Phil is organizing Gavin's
livestream memorial,
and I think that you should speak
- show them that you're not scared.
- What about Phil?
- Politics are for men.
- Ahem.
I don't think you and Sam
are gonna be best friends.
[SAM] We don't need to replace him.
[DEEP, SHAKY BREATH]
We need to remember him.
We need his wife.
If you don't step up, we'll lose
everything that Gavin worked for.
That sounds almost feminist
for a Kith and Kin devotee.
[♪♪♪]
Thank you for your time.
[TESS] Did Tracy look
as tense as she sounded?
Yeah. Her smile was
practically a grimace.
And the way Sam was
pushing her to take over
maybe she was the secret dissenter.
[JAKE] So what were you
doing before the luncheon?
I was at the office.
I did Gavin's expenses,
I got Tracy her coffee.
[JAKE] Did Gavin have any of the coffee?
He hated coffee.
Are you familiar with
the name "Truthseeker25"?
No. Should I be?
So you're Tracy's best friend,
and you were Gavin's assistant?
Yeah. The three of us met at the college
and graduated together.
And, uh, you work for a living
isn't that counter
to the trad lifestyle?
I raised my kids.
Two girls
same age as Tracy's boys,
and they're at college now
and then, last year, my husband died.
Sorry for your loss.
It's kinda hard to explain
a 20-year gap on a résumé,
so Gavin and Tracy helped me out.
By giving you a job?
Okay, look. I get it.
Okay, you think that we are these
dumb, sheltered housewives
- Not at all!
- I didn't say that.
But Tracy and I
were top of our class,
and you know what? We even partied.
We used to host silent
discos in the library stacks,
- we'd stagger home at dawn.
- [CHUCKLES]
- It's always the quiet ones.
- [SAM] And then we grew up.
I don't need a career
to validate my existence.
My life is very full,
thank you very much.
How's yours?
A-And, you know, the
problem with girls like you
is that you don't
understand we are making
an informed decision,
because we know that,
at the end of the day,
if you don't have family
you don't have anything.
Girls like me are the
ones looking out for you
when things go sideways.
- Is there anything else, Detective?
- No.
Thank you for your time.
Don't.
- I know you thought I lost control.
- I didn't say anything!
I was trying to throw
her. It was a tactic.
[SUNNY] It didn't sound like a tactic.
Toxicology report is in.
The winner is breath mints.
Uh Rae did find carbon
residue in the coffee cup
it's likely from a water filter,
but she is sending it
off for further testing.
You think Sam's our girl?
Well, she doesn't fit
the Truthseeker profile.
- Mm.
- Seems like a true believer.
Then again, she had access to the mints.
Why is it so quiet around here?
[SUNNY] It's the news.
It's the footage of the police officer
who pepper-sprayed the protester.
God. Tess, you can see his name tag.
Ooh, this does not look good.
No. It doesn't.
All right, everybody. Back to work!
[NEWS REPORTER] Following the death
of controversial speaker Gavin Jones
[BENNETT] This was the
incident you reported?
It's now a PR nightmare.
Hopefully, it doesn't
affect your investigation.
Yes, sir.
Tess the footage is ours.
It comes from the EyesUp camera,
and the only other person
who knows how to get it
Is Matt.
[TESS] Do you have any idea
how damaging leaking
that footage could be?
More damaging than a reprimand, I hope.
Matt, if the police find
out that it came from us,
it could have serious consequences!
I don't work for the police or you.
I help because it's
the right thing to do.
That cop was out of line.
The next time could be worse!
- He needed to be identified.
- It is not that simple.
Look, every time a cop
goes into a crowd
5 people, 500 people
they're putting their life on the line.
Are you telling me how dangerous
it is to be a cop in this country?
There has to be consequences.
- Consequences?
- Yeah.
Posting that video
could put Sunny's job,
my job, the whole investigation at risk!
You break the rules all the time.
Why is this the line
that you won't cross?
[SUNNY] Wait-wait-wait! Pause! Pause.
Pause the screen.
That protester in the back
the one with the mask
can you go back to
where you see their face?
[INDISTINCT COMMOTION]
That's Gavin's right-hand man, Phil.
What?
[MATT SIGHS]
[GAVIN, ON RECORDING] Society
teaches them falsehoods.
Women have lost life skills.
To cook, to provide nourishment
- is biological.
- Okay, I disagree.
[GAVIN] What's more
fulfilling for a woman
than caring for a husband and child?
I mean, literally
anything else she enjoys?
- [GAVIN] Modern women have been conditioned
- [NOTIFICATION CHIMES]
some could even say brainwashed
- into going against their God-given nature
- Sunny?
Jake's bringing in Phil.
They'll be here in an hour.
[GAVIN] to be the
machine of capitalism
Oh. Okay, well, I checked
out Truthseeker25's socials,
and then I checked out Phil's.
They are night and day.
Truthseeker25 says
that neo-traditionalism
will destroy society,
and Phil says that it will save it
although he hasn't actually
posted in a few weeks.
- Well, maybe he's lost the faith.
- Oh!
You know who's an incredible essayist?
Tracy. She wrote these really
interesting sociology papers
back in college.
Listen.
"Let this be an admonition to
those led away from family
the cost is not money,
but love and meaning "
- Wait, "admonition." I just heard that.
- [CLICK]
[GAVIN] Let this be an admonition
to those led away from family
the cost is not money,
- but love and meaning.
- Huh.
Sounds like Tracy wrote her
husband's speech a decade earlier.
I wonder what made her leave it?
I mean, I get it you want a family,
so you raise your kids, but
after that, aren't you just bored?
Well, wouldn't you want
to look after someone?
Or be looked after?
Perhaps by a handsome,
chiseled-jawed sleuth?
- Jake?
- No, Leo.
For God's sakes, Tess!
Okay, we're not talking
about this right now.
He's gonna be leaving.
Maybe for good.
So what do you want me to do about it?
You're supposed to beg him to stay.
Okay. And do what?
To be my boyfriend? I mean
[LAUGHS] look at me
I'm married to my job, 24/7.
I think you're overthinking this.
Honestly, a relationship
is just finding somebody
who likes to do the same things as you.
Like what?
Overworking
and complaining about coffee?
Can we just try to figure out if Phil
is connected to this Truthseeker25?
If they are the same person,
then maybe we can use
Phil's personal information
to get into the account.
Okay. Truthseeker25
you have lost your password
"Who is your favourite author?"
Well, Phil's always
quoting Louis Gasson online.
- [BONG]
- Nope.
J.K. Rowling?
[CLACKING]
- [BONG]
- No.
Well, he idolized Gavin.
[CLACKING]
Boom.
That's one.
"How long have you been
with your current employer?"
He said six years.
[GASPS]
Tess, we're in.
[♪♪♪]
Whoa.
The last message
he says that he's gonna "cut
off the head of the snake."
Okay
That was the day before Gavin died.
[TESS] Where were you before
Gavin and Tracy's poisoning?
- I already gave my statement.
- Let's revisit it.
Ahem.
I was in meetings with
Gavin. There was a threat,
so I did a round through the protest,
and checked I.D. badges with security.
During the luncheon,
I had a meeting at the
Kith and Kin office,
- so I left.
- What can you tell us about breath mints?
You think I poisoned their breath mints?
Why would I want to kill my mentor?
Maybe because he was headed
down a path you didn't like,
so you decided to, uh what was it?
"Cut off the head of the snake."
I would never betray Gavin.
Is that right, "Truthseeker"?
Just like you would never take
part in a Sister Shift protest,
or leak insider
information to its leader?
No, no, no. This is
This is not what you think.
Phil! Come on.
You had means and motive
you threatened to kill Gavin online,
and we have written
and photographic proof
that you had had an ideological split.
Yeah, except it's fake.
All that Truthseeker stuff
Gavin and I made it up together.
You can go ahead, track the I.P
it was all sent from his laptop.
Why would Gavin undermine
his own movement?
Do you know anything about politics?
Any time that there's a protest,
the donations roll in. Sister Shift
makes money hand over fist for us.
[TESS] What are you saying?
You go online and stir the pot,
and then you go
undercover at their rallies
and incite some violence?
It's not how I would put it.
[JAKE] You knew Gavin best.
Who do you think killed him?
I was at the Kith and Kin
office a few weeks ago,
going through their books, and I noticed
that somebody had emptied
one of the accounts.
- Who?
- I don't know, but Gavin seemed to,
and he said he was gonna talk to them.
I guess he never got the chance to.
Or
maybe he did.
[♪♪♪]
So I.T. just got back to us.
Turns out Phil's story checks out
the Truthseeker posts trace
back to Gavin's I.P. address.
[SUNNY] We would've known earlier
if Matt was still on our team.
Okay, so what we have right now
- is this line on some mystery embezzler?
- Mm-hmm.
- Gonna be a long night. Coffee?
- [TESS] Ha. Hell, yeah.
Tell me, how do you feel about
cleaning out old coffee grinds?
Well, it depends how
are you at vacuuming?
I do it twice a year,
whether I need to or not.
Okay, so
we need something on
this embezzler, right?
- Yes.
- What do you say
that we divide and conquer?
I'll sift through Gavin's
emails and his texts,
you take Kith and

Jake sent over the statements
and the audio files from the bank.
Wait audio files?
Yeah, any transaction over $10,000

- [CLATTERING]
we find who
authorized the withdrawal,
- we find the embezzler.
- [COINS CLATTERING]
Sunny, what are you doing over there?
You got a piggy bank or something?
Did you know that can get
nickels delivered to you?
- [CLATTERING]
- [SIGHS]
Okay, so I have the, uh, the
40K withdrawal that Phil flagged,
and the corresponding audio file.
[BANKER] I require verification
before your withdrawal of $40,000.
Can you confirm your name and address?
Tracy Jones, 2-6-3 Oakview Lane.
V-7-G-6-X-T.
That's not Tracy's voice. That's Sam's.
- [BANKER] And yours, sir?
- Gavin Jones.
Same address.
Well, so much for his
defence of love and meaning.
Gavin and Sam were stealing
from Kith and Kin together.
[SUNNY] It worked!
Ohh.
[THUMP]
[THUD]
[MAN'S VOICE] Ahh!
[LOCKS ENGAGING]
[WHISPERS] Kye

[KYE] I've checked with

nobody heard anybody that's in distress.

- No, no, no. No.
I swear, I heard a man yelling.
Uh, w-when was the last time
you had a good night's sleep, Sunny?
Huh? I'm fine.
Is this a bucket full of nickels?
Look, I think, just
for everyone's safety,
- you should just do one more check.
- [SIGHS]
I think what's happening
here is a tired concierge
is at odds with an even-tireder tenant
who is hearing things,
so may I just politely
suggest that you go to bed.
Just go to bed. Just go to bed.
[♪♪♪]
- Go to bed, Sunny!
- [THUD]
So Gavin didn't confront
the embezzlers
Gavin and Sam were the embezzlers?
Yeah, but what was the money for?
You think Tracy was in on it?
I don't know. I should
pay her a visit anyway.
Um, what I did find was
a receipt for a necklace
on Gavin's credit card bill that
matched the one that Sam had on.
Also, there were hotel room charges
that match the day that Sam took off.
Well, props to Gavin.
There's nothing more traditional
than having an affair
with your assistant.
So you had no idea this was going on?
Two weeks ago, I found out
Gavin had had an affair,
so I kicked him out.
That's why he stayed at the hotel.
But you were at the lunch with him.
He said it was "a moment of weakness"
with "a summer volunteer,"
and that he would
- make her go away, quietly.
- How?
An NDA and hush money.
[SUNNY] That explains
the 40K withdrawal.
And now you say it was Sam?
So they both lied to
me! They betrayed me.
- [PHONE RINGS]
- I need to take this call.
- Hello?
- [SUNNY] Hey, Tess, check out the gift table.
There's a book in the trash.
- [TRACY, ON PHONE] Yes, no. I'll be fine.
- [SUNNY] Two steps to your left.
Reach down.
Family by Louis Gasson.
Why is it in the trash?
There's an inscription
it's from Sam.
"From our college library
where it all started,
to better days.
Sam."
[TRACY] Okay. Yeah.
That-That sounds good.
I said I'll be fine.
Okay. Thank you.
Ahem.
Miss Avery, um
would you please delay
releasing these details
until after the memorial?
I don't want Kith and Kin to suffer
because of Gavin's transgressions.
I will see what I can do.
Tracy do you think Sam
could have had a bad reaction
to Gavin ending their affair?
You said she had access to the
office with the breath mints.
She was in there all day.
- Where is she now?
- She's in his office,
planning his funeral.
[TESS] Sam?
There's no sign of her.
You know what? Jake said Sam
was still wearing the necklace
Gavin gave her doesn't
exactly sound like a jilted ex.
Yeah, but you can get
dumped and still grieve.
Oh, wait-wait-wait! Sam's purse
straight ahead, on the desk, two paces.
Okay, so only four people
had access to this office.
Two of them were poisoned.
Phil had his wagon hitched
to Gavin's star, while Sam
has a pack of breath mints
and a letter in her purse?
"I've felt guilty for a long
time. I never meant to hurt you.
I'm sorry. Love, Sam."
- A suicide note?
- I'll call it in.
No. Wait. That doesn't make sense.
Gavin dumped her,
paid her $40,000 in hush money,
so why stick around? Why keep
up the pretense with Tracy?
Tracy who forgave Gavin
and then made him
camp out at a hotel.
[♪♪♪]
Tracy, whose voice was strained
when she called Sam her best friend.
And whose gift from Sam
was already in the trash
before you even told
her about their affair.
What if Tracy knew it was Sam?

he was leaving Tracy?
No, but Tracy was poisoned, too.
No, almost poisoned,
and she recovered
fast incredibly fast.
The carbon traces on the mug
what if it wasn't from the water filter,
what if it was activated charcoal?
Like the kind you use
to treat poisoning?
Tracy knew those breath
mints were lethal,
because she poisoned them
and then she took one
right alongside Gavin,
to make them both look like victims,
but she had the charcoal
to protect herself.
And then she forged the suicide
note to pin it all on Sam.
Tess the only way
