Chasing Sunsets

1
You gave them my documentary release?
This was about you
making sure that your name
is something other than a joke
even if it meant the
destruction of my career.
If I want to wear four gold bars,
I have to be responsible for the
choices I make while I wear them.
You can see me? I love you.
(LEXI): I don't know
if I can be with someone
who doesn't believe in me.
(HAYLEY): Does it matter who kissed who?
(CRYSTAL): It does matter,
and I shouldn't have done it.
(NOWAK): My dream is
to fly for Air Canada.
(TRISTAN): If you get it,
we'll figure it out together.
(NOWAK): I think this is
how we get our clean slate.
(SOFT MUSIC)
Last trip up to Thompson.
Is this how you thought it would end
when you came north as a baby pilot?
Okay they're greenhorns
Tristan, not baby pilots.
And honestly, I never thought
I'd have a chance with you.
That's sweet, booboo. But I meant this.
You getting your dream job at AC
right when I get a job
offer from Sick Kids?
My mom's going to be so happy
we're finally coming home.
She's even trying to convince me
that we should move in
with her and Anthony.
Yeah.
Okay. Obviously we're not
moving with my parents.
What's up, Nowak?
I thought you said flying
for Air Canada was your dream.
It is, and now that
it's finally happening,
it somehow feels wrong.
Yeah, I know. It's not like
I want to leave here, either.
It's just the last couple of
months working at Sick Kids, I
I feel like I found my place, Milosz.
And getting a chance at a major airline
is where you're meant to be.
And now we finally get to
start our grown-up lives
together in Toronto.
Okay, but can we keep
it to ourselves? Just
I want to tell Wheezer
first. One on one.
Okay. But don't take too long, okay?
(SOFT MUSIC)
How'd your AC interview go?
Did they ask about breaking air regs?
First question in the sit-down.
Wow. I mean, I knew that kind of stuff
meant a lot to major airlines, but
Spoke to Aviation
Authority after you left.
Told them everything.
Why I made the decision
to bust minimums,
why I stand by it, but
Lexi said. They still
gave you a violation?
Yeah.
Anyways, man, don't leave me hanging.
I need to hear the good news.
Did you get the job at AC or what?
Still waiting to find out.
Well, all the planes look good
now that I can actually see them again.
Yeah. It's weird with 922 gone.
I know a lot of captains
must have flown 922
but in my mind that
was that was your plane.
Hmm.
I already didn't have enough crew,
now I don't have enough planes.
SkyMed's gonna have to take
a loan to get another one
and then I'm gonna have to scramble
to find enough people to fly it.
Are things really that bad out there?
It's always that bad up here.
It's the north. High turnover.
Pilots come up here to get their hours,
then as soon as they get what
they need from us, jump ship.
Well, you have me, now. Forever.
Since no one else will want to hire me.
Aww. Well it's nice to
know that I have at least
one captain I can count on, hey?
It's nice to know. Come
on. I'll buy you a beer.
You're gonna be alright.
(THEME MUSIC)
I thought if I was always there
I could control things
and protect people
but I realize now that
sometimes the only way
that you can be there for someone
is to just just be there.
Sometimes that's all you can do.
And I think that that's
why I got so attached to you
and making sure that you're okay.
So that I could feel in control
because I didn't feel in control at all
when I lost my friend Mel.
I'm really sorry, Dani.
But I need you to know though
that even though you
reminded me of her at first,
I do see you for who you are.
Thank you.
But you still lied to me.
And I know you're saying
it wasn't about me,
it was stuff you're going through.

I'm not messing around.
- What happened?
- Colton slammed into me.
I must've hit the throttle
instead of the brake
and the bike kicked up.
Were you pulling him on water-skis
behind a dirt bike over a ramp?
Dirt skiing, man. Gonna be
the next big extreme sport.
Not for the next six to eight weeks
because this ankle looks broken.
We gotta teach Trev how to shift gears.
You're right, Leenah.
I should've been the one driving.
This was your idea?
We were bored. And Colton
likes extreme sports.
Leenah. We talked about this
when you got hurt sneaking into
the crew house for a concert.
You can't be doing stupid reckless stuff
just because you're bored.
Now you got two people hurt.
I'm not hurt. Just got
some gnarly road rash.
But I-I pulled most of the sticks out.
(COLTON): Dude, that looks
like SpaghettiOs on a slinky.
What are you doing?
Checking for subcutaneous air leaking
from the lungs under the skin.
Cool. How do you check that?
It would sound kind
of like Rice Krispies
when you press on it.
The air gets trapped in little bubbles.
- Can I try?
- No.
My chest doesn't hurt
but there's this one really
big stick I can't get out.
You should never pull
out an impaled object.
It could be plugging a bleed.
And that is not a
stick, that is your ulna.
This is an open fracture.
- Oh, God.
- Dude, that's your bone.
That's sick. Can I touch it?
So, this doesn't have to be
an official thing or whatever?
Like, you can just fix him
like you did with my hand?
If this goes through SkyMed
they'll call our parents
and that isn't our bike.
We took it from my neighbour's garage.
Your parents are going
to find out eventually
and this is a lot worse
than a cut on a hand.
Hayley, can you handle the rest?
I promised Leenah's mom
I'd keep an eye on her
with stuff like this.
They're both stable.
I can take them to the
plane on the trailer.
- Can I drive?
- (HAYLEY AND COLTON): No.
Come on. Let's go talk to your mom.
What would've happened to Trev
if he did have Rice Krispies?
I'd put a syringe in his
ribs so that he could breathe.
And if he did have a bleed,
then that would be a hemothorax.
He'd need a chest tube.
Gross. How do you do a chest tube?
I don't.
Except for that one time
there was a bomb on the plane.
It's our job to stabilize patients
until they get to a hospital,
so I put a three-sided dressing on it
to let the air and blood drain out.
I've also used duct tape
before, that works too.
Yo, your job is sick.
I think I might want to be a nurse.
What else can you teach me?
Come on, Crystal, it wasn't that bad.
Leenah. You stole a dirt
bike and you hurt two people.
And you could've
gotten hurt too, Leenah.
Trev's older brother got kicked
out by his parents for doing drugs.
Okay? He moved to Winnipeg
and Colton and Trev
wanted to go hang out
with him in the city.
But he's trouble, Crys.
So I convinced them to come
to North House with me instead.
But I needed something fun
to get them to come up here.
I was trying to help.
I was trying to do
what you would've done.
You're right.
Jer and I did do stuff
like this all the time
when we were young and dumb.
We were bored too.
And we thought we were helping too
by smuggling things into the community.
Cuz, it's summer.
My kokum was making these
for Jeremy before he died,
and I was gonna bring
'em back to North House
but I want you to have them.
Why me?
You remind me of me.
And Jeremy.
I wasn't much older than you
when I stopped being young and dumb.
And figured out how to help
people in a smarter way.
Jer took longer
but his heart was always
in the right place.
You know, he was like this fox.
Clever but not always smart.
Until one day he did figure
out how to turn things around.
So don't stop trying to help.
But do things in a way
that'll actually help.
Let's go talk to your mom.
And your neighbour.
(SIGHS)
Hey.
Thought I'd have to wait
for a ride back to Thompson.
Yeah, no, we dropped Hayley
and the patients off at TCH
then came back.
Wheezer took an ATV to look for you.
I'll call him on the SAT phone.
Cool. Well, I gotta check the oil, so
Hey, TJ. I owe you an apology.
I kissed you and you
were so nice about it
and then I freaked out
Crystal. You don't have to explain.
The thing is, the last person
I kissed before you was Jeremy.
Right. I get it.
Grief takes time.
Yeah. And I think right now I
just need to focus on med school.
You know, I want to become a doctor
so I can start a clinic in North House
and keep helping the community
the way that he wanted to.
The Jeremy Wood Clinic.
It's got a nice ring to it.
And look, I know you're
not ready for anyone new,
but I hope you don't mind if
watching you do stuff like that
makes it hard not to
have a bit of a crush.
