Supergirl (2015) s03e02 Episode Script

Triggers

1 [Kara] Previously on Supergirl So we saved each other just like Romeo and Juliet.
You really need to finish it.
Let me help you get over him.
Get over him? [Kara] He didn't dump me, I sent him away.
I'm buying CatCo.
Please tell me you convinced him not to buy CatCo.
No.
I bought it.
No! [screams] ["California" playing] [alarm ringing] This This music makes me cry It sounds just like my soul, oh Oh, I'm not ready to win Oh, Lord, cause I don't wanna know what they say Cause I get carried away Commodifying all the pain The things they see in me, I cannot see myself When you get bored of me, I'll be back on the shelf And when the ocean rises up above the ground Baby, I'll drown in California I didn't think you'd end up treating me so bad Oh, I, oh, I Oh, na, na, na, ne - Oh, I, oh, I Oh, na, na, na, ne - [Sam] All right, kiddo.
[Ruby] Don't forget I have to buy all the books after school so you have to pick me up at 5:30.
Baby, Mrs.
Crawler is picking you up 'cause I have meetings all afternoon.
Okay? Oh, I forgot.
I mean, it's my first day, you know.
I just I can't get out early.
And you remember how I was telling you that this was an incredible opportunity? - Yeah.
- What I meant was money.
Mom's gonna be making just, like, lots and lots of money.
Do you remember the other day at the waterfront? Yeah, I remember.
Did anybody help you with that tower? Nope, just me.
It was pretty huge.
It was pretty huge.
I was just so worried about you.
You know Mom's, they get this adrenaline rush when their kids are in danger.
I had the strength of, like, I don't know, like, 10 moms.
I think it would have taken 30 moms.
It's not a big deal.
You will understand when you have kids.
[elevator dings] Ms.
Luthor, it's so nice to see you.
Eve Teschmacher, right? [exclaims] Sorry, I'm a huge admirer of yours.
Thank you, Eve.
Oh, uh, can I get a you a coffee? You take it black, right? I'm not stalking you.
I emailed your assistant at L-Corp about all your favorite things.
I hate salmon, too.
Well, thank you, yes, a coffee would be lovely.
Great.
Eve, why don't you just use this elevator? It'll go straight to the ground floor.
Oh, no, only the boss can use it.
That's just silly.
Anybody who needs it should be able to use it.
All right.
[James] Ms.
Luthor.
I didn't know you'd be here this morning.
Yeah, I was able to get things in line over at L-Corp.
That's good.
I wanna say thanks again for saving CatCo.
And we should really figure out a way to get you up to speed on what's happening here.
I was thinking weekly meetings or There's no need.
I'll be here every day.
[stammers] Every day? Yeah, I've set things up at L-Corp so I'll be able to dedicate my energies to learning the ins and outs of how things work at CatCo.
[sighs] Okay.
[clears throat] You seem surprised by this.
Yeah Yeah.
Lena, welcome to CatCo.
You didn't have to do that.
It's a Danver's family tradition.
First day of school you get a planner.
It's lovely.
In the Luthor house on the first day, we would hire a private investigator to make sure our teachers' credentials were up-to-date.
[laughs] So, you knew that Ms.
Luthor would be here today? Yeah, she texted me this morning.
I should've communicated more clearly, Mr.
Olsen.
I'm sorry.
It won't happen again.
No, no, no.
It's no I mean I feel bad because we just We're just not ready for a change in management.
We don't even have an office for you, but I Oh, no, that's fine.
I won't be needing a office.
It's this new trend in CEOs, we like to roam free, ask questions, - and hear unfiltered conversations.
- [cell phone ringing] That way we can understand how things are working.
It's much easier when you don't have a desk.
Kara, do you think you might be able to get me the dossier on the Edge investigation, please? Uh, there's actually something I have to deal with.
Can I get it for you later? Is that okay? - Sure, yeah.
- Sorry.
[James] Not a problem.
Um [clears throat] Ms.
Luthor, I'd be happy to have someone else do that for you.
No, no, it's fine, I can get it.
It is not a personal attack on your taste.
I wasn't even thinking that until you just suggested it.
- It's a fact.
- [scoffs] - Okay, Winn, back me up.
- [Winn] Hmm? I don't think that I should get involved.
Because you're on my side, aren't you? [scoffs] Oh, yeah, right.
Well What? Wait I saved your life.
Yeah, but, like, so has everybody else here.
Don't try to make him feel bad for siding with me.
What, did you pay him to agree with you? Oh, now you're accusing me of - Well, if the shoe fits - Hey, hey, hey! Hey.
What is all this about? We can't agree on one very important wedding detail.
Band or DJ.
[sighs] The human mind reacts to music very much like other stimuli.
Tastes, smells.
If the song doesn't sound exactly the way you're used to hearing it, you enjoy it less, and are, therefore, less likely to get jiggy on the dance floor.
I say DJ.
- Oh, yes! - [Sawyer] Come on.
[Winn] "Jiggy"? What was the general alert for? Wait, you get the general alerts? That's just for the analysts I think.
No, I had them add me to the distro list.
I want to know what's going on with the city at all times.
Detective Sawyer brought this in this morning.
Mr.
Schott.
Yeah, well, we analysts thought we might be able to see something the cops didn't.
She hit two banks back-to-back.
Where are the guards? Unconscious on the floor.
Any leads on how she took 'em out? Well, we thought it might be gas.
But toxicity came back negative.
According to report, she walked right in the front door.
[J'onn J'onzz] No weapons of any kind.
Everyone just cleared out of her way, let her take whatever she wanted.
Whoa, we got a silent alarm tripped at 25 and Cedar.
Looks like that's our new friend.
I got you cornered.
Do you? What did you do to them up there? I only wanted to play.
But they didn't want to play with me.
Well, you are not getting away with it.
Oh! You think you're the cat and I'm the bird.
You got it backwards.
You can join me.
Maybe then you'd be happy.
You see, money equals happiness.
More money more happiness.
Your priorities are seriously out of whack.
I know, right? [laughs] Put the bag down.
[sighs] [music intensifies] [breathing heavily] [police siren wailing] Make sure they are okay.
I'm gonna check the vault.
Everyone out of the way! Get out of here now! [Kara whimpering] Hey, Kara, Kara, it's okay, it's okay.
Okay, the scans of your vitals are coming up normal.
See, I told you, I am fine This is totally unnecessary.
None of the human victims remember what happened in there.
Do you? I don't know.
I felt like the walls of the vaults were closing in on me, like I was suffocating.
Sounds like she made you feel claustrophobic.
Claustrophobia is a human problem.
You used to have episodes like that sometimes - when you first came to Earth.
- That was a long time ago.
We need to find out who she is and how we track her.
Well, at the moment, you're our best clue.
What are you doing? Hey, I thought you couldn't read Kryptonian minds.
I can't, but I can scan her mind for residual psychic activity.
Just remind me to get you a "World's best boss" mug.
Well, she's definitely a psychic, but she's not like me.
There are traces of a particular type of psionic interference in your mind, the type only used by metahumans.
[Winn] Okay, well, I'll start combing through the metahuman database.
In the meantime, I'll monitor potential targets for unusual activity.
If we locate her, I'll take her down.
It's not safe.
She caught me off guard last time.
It's not gonna happen again.
Just because I'm stepping in does not mean these deals are voided.
I'm gonna have to call you back.
- Hello? Yes? - [elevator dings] What? Okay, well, then.
There was some kind of argument between the girls that started before morning bell.
It got very heated outside their lockers and Ruby hit Stephanie.
Okay, when you say "hit" I mean, how did she hit her? Did she push her? Oh, no, she punched her in the face.
Oh, God.
Is Stephanie all right? She's okay, it didn't go further than the one punch.
I just This is not like Ruby.
Ruby is very well-behaved.
I was shocked when they told me she was involved in this.
Is she acting okay at home? - Sleeping normally? - Yes.
Yes, nothing out of the ordinary.
I know you're a single parent.
Has there been some sort of shake-up with Ruby's father? You know, sometimes children can sense There is no father, it's just us.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry.
We just want to find out what's going on with Ruby and make sure that this is an isolated incident for her.
Well, I agree.
[door opens] Today of all days.
Come on.
[elevator dings] Hey, how you doing? I'm okay, I'm just running late.
For what? Uh, Lena called a meeting for the news room.
She did? Yeah, she didn't tell you? - No, she did not.
- Huh.
Kara, there you are.
I'm sorry, I tried to make it work, but it just Good meeting? Was it good? Yeah, I was just going around to all the departments, giving them a little pep talk.
- I really missed you there.
- Shoot.
- [cell phone ringing] - I I have to take this.
Where is she going? She's a reporter, she is doing her job.
Now, did you think that I didn't wanna be there? Is that why you didn't tell me? Well, to btohonest, I thought you would be too busy to act as my chaperone.
I don't wanna chaperone you.
I don't consider myself a chaperone.
I consider myself the person who's been running this company for a year.
All right, Mr.
Olsen.
I have a meeting with the advertising department in 20 minutes.
I'll see you there.
See you in 19.
Twenty will be fine.
[exhales] Trying to sneak up on a psychic? Almost worked.
[grunts] Supergirl, are you all right? Tell me there's something you can do.
I can try and create a psychic shield to protect her mind from the attacks.
It'll work? [sighs] I don't know.
Someone else has come to play.
J'onn.
Your friend should be careful.
- [high-pitched ringing] - [groans] [groaning] J'onn? Just you and me now.
[screams] [grunts] Mind over matter.
[whimpers] What are you doing to me? Fear is a powerful tool.
Kara.
Kara.
Kara.
Kara, I love you.
Mom.
Kara, because of the Earth's yellow sun, you have great powers on this planet.
[Alura] You will do extraordinary things.
[Kara whimpering] [breathing heavily] - [rattling] - [whimpers] Supergirl.
Supergirl! [groaning] I'm here.
I'm here.
I'm sorry I couldn't hold her off.
She's more powerful than any psychic I have ever encountered.
What happened this time? It was the same as before.
[Winn] I got our girl.
Gayle Marsh, law-abiding citizen of Skokie, Illinois, until one day she snapped and went on a bank-robbing spree.
Uh, let's see, authorities nicknamed her "Psi" after a string of psychologically-enhanced robberies, which ravaged a series of small town banks throughout the Midwest a couple of months ago.
[Alex] Where do we go from here? [Winn] Well, now that we know a little bit more, I thought I might start trying to adapt our psychic dampening technology to stop her.
Good work, Agent Schott.
I still love it when he calls me that.
But we still need to know how she's infiltrating people's minds, so get started.
I'll head to the precinct and see if there's an update on any witness reports that might help.
I need to talk to you.
Ooh, this is very covert ops.
What's up? I know how she's doing it.
I felt her this time.
She's targeting people's fear.
[stammers] How do you know that? I saw my mother.
I saw Krypton explode.
I re-lived my last moments there.
And then being stuck, floating through space for so long, knowing I could never have my life back.
Psi put me back in that pod.
Completely trapped and alone.
It was It was so quiet.
Silence was the worst part.
I felt completely cut off from everything and everyone I have ever known.
We have to stop her, Winn.
- You should tell J'onn, Alex.
- No.
They can't know.
They'll just worry.
You have to be the one to solve this, that's why I'm telling you.
You're already altering the psychic dampeners, right? This will help? Yeah, I mean, knowing that it targets fear centers, sure.
Good.
[cell phone ringing] Hang on.
It's Lena, I've got to go.
Hey, hey.
[stutters] I'm I'm sorry that this is happening.
- If - I'll be fine.
Um [Sam] Got in a fight? I mean [sighs] I just want to understand here, baby.
What happened? She called me a liar.
Well, who cares what Stephanie Harrison thinks? I'm not a liar.
What did you tell her? I told her that you rescued me at the waterfront, that you have superpowers.
That I have superpowers? [scoffs] No.
No, I don't have powers.
Then how did you lift that huge thing? Honey, I told you, it's adrenaline, okay? - I'm not - Why don't you just admit it? Do you know how many people in this world want to have superpowers? - Do you know how special it is? - I'm not special! - Yes, you are! - No, I'm not! I'm just an average mother trying to take care of her kid.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
Ruby.
I need you to hear me.
I don't have powers, okay? You think I am a liar, too.
No, I don't think you're a liar, I just think you need to let it go.
Oh, God, I just want you to let it go.
Oh, sorry.
[Lena] No, no, it's fine.
We can reschedule.
We'll connect later, okay? Thanks.
Kara.
Kara, I was looking for you.
Yeah, I know.
I got your message.
What's up? My contact at Morgan Edge's bank came through.
I would like you to go interview.
I can, but there's something I have to do first.
Okay, other work stuff? Yeah.
Kara, I think I know what's going on.
What do you mean? You brushing in and out of the office, not focusing on work.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I grew up in a house with the most deceptive people in the world.
I can tell when someone's lying to me.
You don't have to hide from me, Kara.
I It's about Mon-El, isn't it? [sighs] So, if you need to take more time Just take it.
I appreciate it, Lena, but that is not what's going on with me.
Okay.
Then what is? You can tell me.
You know.
It's personal.
And I don't wanna talk about personal things on my job.
I have work to do.
Okay.
Then lets talk about work.
This is unacceptable behavior for an employee.
You ran off this morning when I gave you an assignment.
You missed a staff meeting.
And now when asked to do a job by your boss, you act like it's an inconvenience.
I did not spend $750 million on a company as a favor to a friend, nor do I plan on being an absentee landlord.
I'm a business woman and this is an investment.
I plan to get out of it everything I can.
I'll get in touch with your contact at the bank.
Thank you.
[cell phone ringing] Kara, she hit another bank.
I'm on my way.
[groans] [panting] Come on.
[panting] Okay.
[Alex on phone] Supergirl.
I'm okay.
I'm headed there now.
[Alex] She got away.
She must be getting stronger.
I felt her in that elevator with me.
She was in my head again.
Well, there is no sign of any psychic intrusion.
What? I think that you just had a good old, human panic attack.
That's not possible.
No, I'm I'm stronger than that.
[Winn] Look, she got in your head, okay? And now she'ss forcing you to live through some serious trauma that is gonna take a toll on anyone.
I don't care if you're the strongest person in the world, which Look, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
I never said I was ashamed.
Winn, J'onn's looking for you.
Hey, what are you guys doing up here? Just talking.
We're hanging out, just being friends.
Alex, I have to go, sorry.
Yeah.
Mmm-hmm.
How's it going? I'm good.
Thanks for asking.
[chuckles] Just a normal day in the DEO, man.
Nothing abnormal happening here.
Nothing going on.
I mean And Kara, Kara is She's fine, right? I mean, she's not totally, completely fine in, like, the normal sense of the word.
You know what I'm say You said J'onn was looking for me.
I'm just gonna go ahead and tell you everything, yeah.
[Sam] So sorry again about today.
My daughter had an issue at school.
It's never happened before.
Yes, I've pushed all the meetings to tomorrow, I've gone through the charts for the presentation.
It should not be an issue.
Thank you so much for understanding.
Okay, great.
Yeah, thanks again.
I'll see you tonight.
Yes.
Ruby.
Dinner.
Hey, Rube.
[knocking on door] Rube.
Ruby.
[phone beeps] [chanting in Kryptonian] [door opens] [door closes] What are you doing? It's Kryptonian meditation.
We say an ancient mantra to strengthen the mind.
Hmm.
Never seen you do that before.
I've never felt like I needed it.
Winn's still working on the psychic dampening technology.
[Kara] Mmm.
We had a nice chat.
Did you? He told you, didn't he? Well, he's not very good at keeping secrets.
You shouldn't have done that.
Well, we used to talk to each other about this kind of stuff.
Why didn't you tell me you saw Krypton, that you were having panic attacks? I didn't want you to worry.
You fight the most dangerous and evil people on the planet, so I'm kind of always gonna worry.
I don't know how to fight this one.
And I should be able to stop her, but But then she makes her way into my mind and And forces me to re-live the scariest moment of my life.
It's [sighs] It's torture.
How am I supposed to deal with that? Well, by remembering that your fears don't define you.
You know, who you are is Supergirl.
Who you are is Kara.
That's what defines you, and she's got nothing on that.
No, who I am as Kara feels broken.
I lost Mon-El.
Lena keeps asking me where I'm going, which is new and horrible.
Alex, I'm trying to be myself again, but everything that used to make me feel good, like Like a relief is It's disappeared.
It's not always gonna feel like that, I promise.
My life as Supergirl is the one thing I can count on.
I can go out there and help people.
I can make a difference in the world.
I can I feel strong, even though a huge part of me feels so weak, and she's taking that away from me.
And if I don't have Supergirl, what do I have? You got me.
I know that, silly.
[chuckles] [machinery sound] [shrieks] [grunting] [bees buzzing] [sirens approaching] [tires screeches] [officer] Stop! Get down! On the ground now.
On the ground! [hissing] [snake hissing] [man screaming] Get it off me! Get it off! [people panicking] [cell phone beeps] [people clamoring] That thing could take out an entire block.
I have to get down there, now.
Hold on, not without this you're not.
- What is it? - [Winn] Psionic inhibitor red.
It should protect you from her powers.
We'll set a perimeter to secure the area.
Just have to keep her out of my head long enough to get a good shot off.
You can do it.
[crashes] [officer] Freeze! [crying] [officer] No! Is it awful? [brakes squealing] Ruby! [people screaming] [Sam] Ruby! Mom.
Baby! I got you! Are you okay? Oh, God! Psi! [machine whirring] [grunts] Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home.
Your house is on fire, and your children, they will burn.
[groans] [panting] He's dead.
Kara, hey, it's me.
It's okay, you're okay.
I killed him.
No.
It's him in the pod, not me.
Mon-El? I killed him.
- No.
- I killed him, it was me.
He's dead.
[sniffles] He's dead.
I know he's dead, I know it! If he were alive, we would have heard from him.
We would've gotten a message.
He died in the pod.
I put him in there and he died.
- Kara, he's not dead.
- He died, I killed him.
I killed him! I killed him! He is not dead! - I killed him.
- He is alive.
Okay, I know it.
I don't know where, I don't know how, but I just I know he's alive.
You saved him.
Okay, just like your mom saved you when she put you in that pod.
She knew you were gonna be okay.
She knew you were gonna live.
Mon-El is alive because of you.
I saved him? Yeah.
Okay.
Alex.
Go get her.
[sniffles and exhales] You're not going anywhere.
Hmm.
What did you see? I wonder.
What brought the Girl of Steel to her knees? A lie.
Fear is not a lie.
Fear cripples.
Annihilates spirits.
It is the only weapon that matters.
Fear made me stronger than you.
No one is safe from it.
Why aren't you scared anymore? Mind over matter.
[indistinct chatter] [sirens wailing] Hey, we doing okay over here? - She's a little shaken up.
- Yeah.
You know, I think I met you at the waterfront last week.
- What's your name again? - Ruby.
How could I forget that? I'm Alex.
Did you know that rubies are one of the toughest gemstones? Only diamonds are tougher.
She's smart and she's tough.
It's a deadly combo.
Didn't know you had such a way with kids.
Oh.
Secret talent.
You'll thank me one day when we have kids.
What? We do wanna have kids, right? I guess we've never really talked about this, but, um I've never seen myself being a mom.
Is that okay? Yeah.
No, of course.
I mean, it's something we should probably talk about.
Hey, sweetie.
Why is it so important to you that I have superpowers? Hmm? Putting yourself in danger like that, I don't I don't even wanna think about what could have happened.
I thought you would save me.
Baby, if I had superpowers, I would've swept you right out of there.
But I don't.
I don't.
Do you think Supergirl has a job? Maybe, I don't know.
Did you think that I wouldn't have to work if I had superpowers? You'd just save people and spend time with me.
Baby, I will always spend time with you.
Superpowers or not, you are the most important thing in the world to me.
Never ever forget that.
Okay.
You've got gravel on your hair.
So, I got in touch with your contact at the bank, and he would be a great source on Edge.
I'm glad it was valuable.
Uh I think I need to apologize for my behavior earlier.
And you're right.
I have a lot more baggage about Mon-El than I previously thought.
It's not knowing what happened to him that's the hardest.
I know it can't be easy.
You were just trying to be a good friend to me and I bit your head off, and then This is new for me, too.
Working with friends? No, having friends.
Luthors don't have friends, we have minions.
You know, so I think it's gonna be a learning curve for both jobs.
No, Lena, today you were a really good friend and a great boss.
- Honestly.
- Thank you.
I'd really like to give you a hug, but I'm afraid I'd show favoritism.
Uh, screw that.
Come here, bring it in.
[both chuckle] [elevator dings] Oh, wait, there's actually someone here I want you to meet.
I'm so glad you could make it.
Thank you so much for being so understanding.
Oh, God, please, no, I am no stranger to family drama.
Oh, um, Kara, this is Samantha Arias.
She is going to be taking over for me at L-Corp.
That's great.
It's lovely to meet you, Ms.
Arias.
Please, it's just Sam.
Okay.
["Thursday Girl" playing] Glory, glory, glory to the night That shows me what I am As I go to the party on my knees Saying take it all please And tell me no Tell me no, tell me no Tell me no Somebody please Tell me no, tell me no Tell me no, tell me no Glory, glory, glory to the night [grunts] That shows me what I am I'm not happy or sad, just up or down And always bad So, if there's anything else I can do, just let me know.
[Lena] Thank you, that's very kind of you.
Good night, Mr.
Olsen.
Ms.
Luthor.
[Lena] Good night, Eve.
[Eve] Good night.
Far, far away, behind the moon, beyond the rain Hey, did you guys ever decide DJ or band? No.
[Kara] She's so cute.
[Alex] She is.
[M'gann] J'onn .
J'onn.
M'gann? You must come to Mars, now.
