The A-Team (1983) s04e17 Episode Script

Waiting For Insane Wayne

(male narrator) In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.
These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground.
Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune.
If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them maybe you can hire the A-Team.
[gun firing.]
(Face) Okay, Murdock, what do you see? I know this.
I know this.
[stuttering.]
Don't tell me, don't tell me.
It's a butterfly, fool, it's a butterfly.
It's a butterfly, that's what it is, a butterfly.
I had that.
I would've had that.
There's no right or wrong to an ink blot test, guys.
It could be a butterfly or it could be a camel.
It's a camel! I mean, that's what it is.
A camel.
I see a camel.
That's right.
I'm hungry.
Where's the next town? Cannon's Crossing is about five miles.
And then we're about 200 miles from the Southern Arizona Mental Testing Center.
You better get going.
I got to pass these tests.
Give me another one, Face.
Yeah, okay.
Oh, boy, this one again.
Okay, let me think.
That's a What do I see? I see ls it a dump truck? No guessing, Murdock.
Just say what you see.
What do I see? I see I see I see See, this guy, Milligan is 280 pounds.
I mean, he ripped out every sink out of every restroom on our floor on the V.
A.
I gotta get transferred.
He is crazy.
I mean, he's like imminently and importantly crazy.
There's the sign for Cannon's Crossing.
Slow down, B.
A.
If only I can get reclassified as neurotic or socially deprived with schizophrenic tendencies I mean, then I could be transferred to the fourth floor outpatient clinic and I could get away from this guy, Milligan.
So, you wanna go with the dump truck on this one? It's like a horse with two heads.
That's a double-headed horsey! I had that.
I would've had that.
[sighs.]
Now that could be them.
Maybe.
They supposed to be in one of them all-terrain things, though.
Leastways, that's what the ad says.
Dang! I don't see why Mr.
Kincaid didn't just tell them to go on out to the ranch.
No! We've got to sit here and pick dust out of our ears trying to figure out if it's them or not.
I'm gonna go on over.
You coming? Maybe.
I'm just not any good at tests.
I get scared.
What about pilot training? You took a lot of tests.
That's different.
Come on, Face, let's work on those box cards.
I'm better at those.
Okay, yes, let's see.
There we go.
Now tell me, which one of these pictures doesn't belong? That's easy.
Cat and dog don't belong.
It's the saddle, fool! Can't you see all the rest of them is animals? (Murdock) That's what you say.
But everybody knows that a horse and a saddle go together because a saddle goes on a horse and a dog and a cat don't go together 'cause a dog and a cat fight.
Who's the fool now, huh? They talking about being crazy and all.
You think that skinny fella is Insane Wayne? Maybe.
Okay, I'm gonna talk to them.
(Face) How about this one? (Murdock) Violin don't go.
See, a violin don't make as much noise as a tuba, or a trumpet or a race car.
Yeah, well, there's a certain crazy logic to that.
Better believe it.
Excuse me.
I work for Mr.
Kincaid.
Are you four fellas the out-of-town talent that we've been expecting? I'm sorry, what? The guys from Mercenary Magazine that Mr.
Kincaid hired for that little piece of funny business.
Well, maybe we are and maybe we aren't.
That's the killer fella, ain't he? Sitting right there is Insane Wayne, ain't it? [grunting.]
Well, maybe I am, maybe I'm not.
Perhaps you could help us by identifying this.
What is that thing? It's is a pool cue with a bladder infection, Bingo.
Uh-huh.
Mr.
Kincaid's waiting for you.
Been expecting you now for a couple of days.
He's getting kind of mad 'cause he sent you that $10,000 advance and, well, I think he kind of felt y'all wasn't gonna show.
We don't do business that way.
Things is got a mite dicey since we wrote you that letter.
That drifter has struck oil out there.
Son of a gun has shot the radiator plum out of the Kid's brand-new pickup truck when he went up there try to run him off.
No kidding? See, we was gonna handle it ourselves but Mr.
Kincaid figured it'd be best if the funny stuff was handled by out-of-town people instead of us locals, if you get my drift.
So, where is Kincaid? You know, you fellas ought to not to eat in here.
Their main specialty is grease.
If you come on out to the ranch, we'll feed you proper.
That's very kind of you.
Thank you, sir.
You're that Insane Wayne guy, right? The guy that advertises you killed all those folks in South America? Well, chickie-chickie if I'm not insane I'm not in the game.
We'll be riding in that blue van on account of the Kid's pickup ain't been fixed yet.
So if y'all just follow us.
Yeah? Sure.
What do you say, guys? I'm game.
Hannibal, what the heck is going on around here? I don't know, guys.
Look, if we're gonna get him re-tested and upgraded to outpatient we're gonna have to get him to the testing center.
I think we ought to hang around here and find out what's happening.
Just as I thought things were beginning to level off.
Okay, okay, I'm in.
Okay.
Now, they think Murdock is some sort of loose wheel named Insane Wayne.
(Hannibal) The thing to do is let them do all the talking till we get the feel of it.
I'm not sure I like it, Hannibal.
Do you want to tell me again why we're getting involved in this mess? So Murdock can learn his inkblots.
I mean, if he takes the test today, we'll lose him forever.
Gotcha.
Hey, listen, I'm getting this stuff pretty close, if you ask me.
You fellas coming? Mr.
Kincaid's in the den.
Stay in the van.
Keep your eye on the weapons.
Right, Hannibal.
Keep practicin'.
You guys took your own sweet time getting here.
Put that out.
I don't like cigar smoke.
You Wayne? It's that fella there.
You Insane Wayne? Well, if I'm not, I've come a long ways for nothing.
[moaning.]
I saw you pull up outside the window.
Oh, somebody put a rose on his nose.
Where's the assault vehicle? You're looking at him.
Where's the guy you call Fat Rat? He's in the van.
Great big black fella.
Got lots of jewelry.
The ad didn't say anything about him being black.
You've got a problem with that, Jack? No, sir.
Not as long as you run Bill Sherman off my property I don't have any problems at all.
Good.
No problems.
No problems.
Who's Tully? Me.
I'm Tully.
That makes you're Three Finger Harry.
Harry couldn't make it.
Got a job running guns in South America.
Well, just who the hell are you? Pica Bob.
I fill in for Harry.
My specialty is smoking a cigar eating snakes alive and running off drifters.
Okay.
Now-- Sherman set up his homestead a couple of years ago over in the East Meadow section.
He cut a road in from the interstate.
He registered with the Arizona State Land Commission and got squatter's rights.
Normally, I wouldn't mind that.
As a matter of fact I didn't mind at all for a couple of years.
And then he brought in a well and a month ago he hit oil.
That land is mine, so the oil's mine.
Where's this no-good squatter set up? Well, if that red line is your ranch, he's not on your property.
If he registered two years ago and got squatter's rights, he's legal.
If I wanted a legal opinion, I'd seek out a lawyer.
What I want is a little funny business from some guys who don't ask too many questions.
What do you mean, "funny business"? Want us to sneak up on him in church and give him a hotfoot? I want you to kill him.
Bury the body two counties over.
Is that plain enough for you? He out there alone? He's got a 15-year-old kid named Bobby.
[snickering.]
You think we got enough firepower to run off one drifter and a 15-year-old kid? Bill Sherman won the Congressional Medal of Honor in 'Nam.
He's some kind of colored beret, green, red.
I don't Special Forces.
He put three of my men in the hospital when we paid him a visit one night last week.
Well, what do you think, Wayne? Maybe we can have some fun here, after all.
Oh, no! You can't travel down that road unless they give you a dead eagle to wear in your hat and a flag to bury it in.
Is he all right? He's a little nuts.
[exclaiming.]
That's-- That's why he's so good.
I'm nuts that's why I'm so good.
Yeah, well, get to it, then.
Aren't we forgetting something, Mr.
Kincaid? Are you talking about money? I do this not for play but for pay.
You said on the phone, $100,000.
Half now and half when the job's finished.
Oh, I know, I know, I know.
But insane people can change their minds from time to time.
I want it all.
Now! What if I say no? [panting.]
Then I'm gonna put a pox on your house.
[laughing.]
[laughing.]
Okay.
Doesn't matter to me, as long as the job gets done.
Hang on to this, Tully.
So, when do you go in? Well, Mr.
Kincaid, this is one of those great cases of mistaken identity.
You see, we're not Insane Wayne, Tully Fat Rat, and I'm not Pico Bob.
We're just four guys passing through.
But something about your offer attracted us.
Now, Mr.
K.
, they said they was them-- No, sir, we never did that.
But not to worry.
We'll take this money and put it to good use.
I'll take my money back.
If the five of you couldn't run off one drifter then you're gonna have a pile of trouble with us.
Take them.
[groaning.]
[groaning.]
Now, let me tell you something else, Kincaid.
We just went to work for Bill Sherman and you paid our fee.
So when Insane Wayne and Three Finger Harry finally get here, tell them four other guys who were also in the Special Forces just decided to suit up.
I can read this inkspot real well.
It's a jackass standing next to an antique desk.
[laughing.]
The wrong guys.
You brought the wrong guys! Well, I'm sorry, Mr.
Kincaid, but that skinny fellow was acting real crazy.
I want them.
(Hannibal) How much did we clear, Face? $90,000.
He shorted us.
No, man, there was $10,000 in advance, remember? Look at this.
"Dirty work, funny business, we ask no questions.
"Contact Insane Wayne.
We'll clean up your problems the old fashioned way.
"For big jobs, ask for Tully, Fat Rat and Three Finger Harry.
" Well, seeing as we dealt ourselves into this game we might as well see who's on our side.
Take a right at the next intersection and head due west.
[gun firing.]
Hold your fire, we're friendly.
It's an Uzi, he's reloading.
Go, B.
A! Now! Now where's your father? Come on, little brother.
We came up here to help.
I don't need any help.
My dad, he taught me how to survive.
I can make it on my own.
How long has it been since You can say it, mister.
They killed him.
Took six of them, though.
At least they never found out they hit him with a lucky shot.
He's dead and they're still scared of him.
But they're bringing in reinforcements, Bob.
Show him the ad.
Insane Wayne, Three Finger Harry? You can't be serious.
These guys have a Saturday morning cartoon show? Lots of mercenaries got crazy names so they can't be identified.
Why would you guys wanna buy in? Well Been a slow week.
And Kincaid more or less hired us.
Who are you guys? Well, that's Hannibal Smith, B.
A.
Baracus "Howling Mad" Murdock, and I'm Templeton Peck.
The A-Team? I'm sure not gonna believe that.
Believe what you want, we're your teammates from now on whether you like it or not.
You can't live out here alone, little brother.
Watch me.
All it would take is a savvy truant officer to put you out of business.
You gotta live with an adult till you're 18.
Did you? Fact is, you can't stay out here all by yourself.
People want this well.
Look, my Uncle Charlie is coming to live with me.
He should be here in about a week.
You're a pretty tough kid.
You're just gonna play it through.
That's the plan, huh? My dad was a hero.
He won that medal in the Da Nang Delta.
Had five slugs in him.
Carried three men out on bamboo litter.
Forty miles through swamps and VC troops.
So you see, I'm not about to dishonor his death by crying.
I understood him.
He was the best.
We'll meet again someday and I want him to know that I understood what he was.
And I was proud.
You want the help? Yeah.
Yeah, maybe.
Why not? You guys aren't really the A-Team.
We could sure use the A-Team, though.
I mean, I could.
Why don't you get some sleep.
How long you been up anyway? Most of two days now.
I had to stay awake, I had to protect this place.
Well, we'll wake you up in about four hours and let you take a watch with the rest of us.
B.
A.
and Hannibal are out there setting up a perimeter right now.
[laughing.]
You keep calling them Hannibal and B.
A like they were really the A-Team, huh? We are.
I'm H.
M.
Murdock.
I was their pilot over there.
And You just watch us and you make up your own mind.
And your father would have known who we were.
'Cause we were famous in 'Nam.
Looks like they started drilling here and got down a ways and hit some rock and then moved over east, punched through, and hit the right spot.
We can use this hole, Hannibal.
Okay, Face, you and Murdock go out to that highway we came in on and wait for Insane Wayne and his animal act.
And what are we gonna do? Tell him his services are no longer required? It's not gonna work.
He's come a long way, Hannibal.
He's gonna want his money.
Face, you're a fountain of creativity.
You will think of something.
Arizona.
What do they do a lot of in Arizona? Let's see.
[stutters.]
Don't tell me, I'll get it.
Relax, Murdock.
This isn't a mental agility test.
I know they set off some hellacious nukes out there in Arizona in the '50s.
No, they didn't.
I know I'll get some of this stuff straight sooner or later.
What's the difference, right? I have an idea.
Well, then, get going.
We gotta buy some time to fix this place up.
You guys, turn Wayne around.
Get us at least half a day.
Right.
Okay, Murdock, you better get the uniforms out of the back of the van.
Oh, and get a tape recorder and that big portable radio of B.
A.
's.
Right.
How you doing? What do you got going here? Wind shift.
Yeah, we're testing the new J-series cluster rockets and one of our jet jocks had a gyro out of whack and hit a target outside the test perimeter and, well, then the winds turned around.
Well, we got a [stuttering.]
Just a little fallout headed this way.
Corky, Corky, you want to run a check on this truck here? Yeah.
[recording of Geiger counter playing.]
Where you fellows from? Down this highway, all the way from Cooperstown.
I got 60 DB and a rain-up on the oscillator.
Oh, boy, oh, boy, it spread further than I thought.
[clicking.]
What the hell's going on here? Holy! [stammering.]
Look, you boys are okay, but you gotta turn around.
Okay? What do you mean, "okay"? This guy here is getting a reading.
Oh, well, it's nothing to worry about.
What, are you kidding me? I read the papers, boy.
You guys screw up on the test you contaminate this whole countryside and you don't say squat to nobody.
[stammering.]
It's nothing like that.
Where're you headed? Cannon Crossing.
Cannon Cannon Oh, look, you've gotta turn around.
You gotta go back 40 miles to the Annandale turnoff.
That'll take you north of the Claxton mountain range, see? Then you follow that up to the South Fork, and well, you take that past, past Riverton and that'll bring you around on the other side of this-- Excuse me! What you're describing here is gonna take half the night.
We're late as it is! This position is being overrun and we're at a point of contamination already.
Oh, no.
You better break out the radiation suits.
Get them out of the back of the jeep.
Right.
And we'll move this position up 15 miles! [sighs.]
All right, you've made your point.
I'm out of here.
Good.
Good.
Good decision.
[door thuds.]
[groans.]
Well, if that's Insane Wayne, they certainly got the right name for him.
Yeah.
Let's get out of here before a cop shows up.
Sure.
Right.
[crickets chirping.]
Okay, Face.
Your turn on guard duty.
[Face groaning.]
Sic him, Murdock.
I'll go get Bobby.
(Face) Oh, come on.
(Hannibal) His bike's gone.
He took the Uzi.
(B.
A.
) You don't think he's gonna try to take those guys on by himself, do you? They killed his father.
He's liable to do anything.
When we get to Kincaid's, we're gonna spread out.
Come in from different sides, use the walkie-talkies.
This is a recon mission.
If he's not there, we get out.
I don't like it, Hannibal.
I think he's gonna get in a lot of trouble.
Depends on what he's doing.
I can't stay long.
I snuck out.
Me, too.
How's your dad? He's not my dad.
He's the man who married my mother.
My daddy died in the war.
You know what I meant.
We gotta get out of here, Bob.
I can't stand the way he treats me.
He just married my mom to get our ranch and There's something wrong with him.
He hits my mom.
Look, I got some help.
It won't be long.
Who's gonna help us? I think it's the A-Team.
The A-Team? Come on.
Why would they wanna help us? Who told them? I don't know.
I'm not even sure it's them.
But they seem to know what they're doing.
Be careful, Bobby.
Tomorrow night, this whole thing'll be over.
One way or another.
If I'm still standing, I'll be back for you.
I love you.
Get inside! Scratch Plan A, go to Plan B.
Come on, Bobby! Get in the van! Go, B.
A.
[tires screech.]
Okay, I'm convinced.
You guys really are the A-Team.
Julie and I have been kind of going steady since the sixth grade.
That was before her mom married Kincaid and Julie was still allowed to go to school.
Kincaid don't let his stepdaughter go to school? Well, he has tutors come up to the ranch.
She never leaves there.
He's a real scuzz.
Her mom just stays in her room.
Doesn't go into town anymore.
So you did your Romeo act till you got caught.
Hey, I've been going up there for months.
They just never picked up on it.
I never see her anymore otherwise.
I think that shows a lot of initiative on your part, Bobby.
You know, where I come from, it was lot tougher.
See, in the city you're dealing with fire escapes-- Face.
Later.
Come on, guys.
We'll be late for the service.
Face, please, can I talk to you? Just for a second.
Please? Face, I'm starting to get worried.
I mean, with everything that has been going on we haven't been working with my flash cards.
Oh! Oh, yeah.
Okay, well, we can do it on the way.
All right, well, let's see.
What's the mathematical significance of these? [stammering.]
That's a tough one, Face.
They're not gonna ask that one.
Go, go on to the next one.
Just answer the question.
[mumbles.]
None of them.
None of them do.
All of them.
They're parallel and perpendicular, see? Face.
I would've got it.
I just have a lot on my mind.
(Hannibal) Come on, guys.
We don't wanna be late for Bobby's dad's memorial service.
(Reverend) Captain William F.
Sherman was a man who stood up for what he believed despite intolerable odds.
His land, his country being both father and mother and friend Bill Sherman died a hero's death.
He gave his life for freedom.
And for his son, that was his father's greatest gift.
Real sorry, son.
About what? That you didn't know three days earlier he was dead? Your daddy should've taught you better manners.
My daddy taught me fine.
I'm really glad you came, Julie.
I wanted to come alone, Bobby.
I wanted to be with you.
But he wouldn't let me.
(Kincaid) I believe you have something that belongs to me.
Depends on what you're looking for.
My $100,000 that you stole.
Why don't you tell the Sheriff? Then we can all go over and have a good laugh on the circumstances involved.
Look, let's get right to the guts of this matter.
By all means.
I want that land.
I'm willing to pay.
I'm ready to make a deal.
What's that? $50,000 to whoever can run Bobby Sherman and us off? I've got a deal of considerable standing to make to the boy.
He's young.
He's got his whole life ahead of him.
Probably got future plans.
I think he should have a chance.
Change of heart.
I think Bobby should at least have a chance to hear me out.
So do I.
How about you and the boy coming for dinner tonight? How about we don't? All right.
We'll meet in a neutral place.
Red Rock Canyon.
It's about four miles north of here.
It's open, nice little clearing, flat.
Everybody in plain sight.
No weapons.
Somehow I feel that only applies to us.
[chuckling.]
My men'll be all out in the open.
No monkey business.
You have my word on it.
And my word's as good as yours.
[engine starting.]
[sighs.]
Well, you know he's gonna double-cross us.
Yeah.
But we're gonna double-cross him.
That's what makes it fair.
Okay, B.
A.
Step into my office.
$100,000.
That's my offer.
I don't understand.
What are you trying to pull? I'm just trying to close a business deal.
Trying to negotiate business.
That's what adults do when they want something.
I give you $100,000.
" you sign the property over to me then you take off.
You killed my dad.
Son what happened to your dad was due as much as it was to anything else as his stubbornness.
Now I suggest you take that money and get out of town.
This one's a little shy.
Well, it's $100,000 or so.
You forgot to mention the "or so.
" Whatever it is, it's enough for this kid to live real healthy on for a long time.
It's up to you, Bob.
It's your decision.
Stuff your money, Kincaid.
I'm keeping my dad's land and I'm working my dad's well.
He died trying to protect it.
If you come around us again you're gonna die trying to take it.
Well, I guess that's the end of the friendly part of these negotiations.
I can't believe y'all are so dumb.
Yeah, dumb as a bag of rocks.
But smart enough to figure you might put a sniper in that stand of trees over there.
And maybe another one in that stand of trees over there.
And so we mined those potential ambush sites.
I don't believe you.
Never bet into aces, pal.
B.
A.
, cut some lumber.
[Veils.]
You all right, B.
A.
? Just stay down.
[guns firing.]
They did it again.
They took my money again.
They shorted us a couple of bills in each packet.
The guy's a sneak thief.
You sure you're all right, B.
A.
? Yeah, it went right through, Hannibal.
I gotta get it stitched up, though.
I'm really sorry, B.
A.
You know, I never would've said no if I knew anyone was gonna get hurt.
You did the right thing, Bobby.
You did the right thing.
(Kincaid) Now, I've heard your excuses! What I want now is action! That's what I say.
Who are you? And what are you doing in my office? You Kincaid? And that's his chair.
Now out! [Veils.]
I'm tired of being run around the brush, Kincaid.
You sent for me.
Insane Wayne.
Julie, get back to your room.
But-- You heard your daddy.
Now get.
Well, it's no wonder you low volts had such trouble containing an old-timer and his son.
Well, first of all, the guy was a Green Beret! I'm not afraid of no hat, Chicken Lickin'.
The fact is, the father's dead.
Been dead almost a week.
Don't lie to me! I talked you two days ago and you were still being held off.
That was the son! A 15-year-old kid? I'm sorry, chief.
Me and my men don't raid nurseries.
That boy's got the A- working for him now.
The A-Team? Out of sight.
Let me go! Let me go! What are you doing? Found her talking real low on the phone.
Sounded kind of strange.
She was telling somebody that we were here and they should get ready for an attack.
Didn't you? Julie.
She's in love with that boy.
I been trying to tell you.
She's in love with the kid, huh? The A-Team's gonna be looking for you.
Especially if you try to come in through the back door.
Sometimes the front door is easier.
If you have the key.
Whoa, now.
You're not taking her to use for bait.
You want that land or not? Take her.
Here they come.
[gun firing.]
Get down.
[guns firing.]
[screams.]
All right, Smith! I want you and your men out here now! Drop your weapons and stand up! No deal, pal.
We can hold you off all day long! I don't think so, Smith.
Not unless you wanna see this twist get broken.
(Bobby) Julie! (Hannibal) Let her go! She's got nothing to do with this.
She's got everything to do with this! Well, come on.
Where's your plumbing, chief? You're the A-Team! You can shoot me down cold.
Right through this little duckie.
Or do you want me to do it for you? Bobby.
Well, you must be the puppy that held off Kincaid's boys.
All right, Smith! I'm through talking, come on out! Or they both eat it.
[groans.]
[panting.]
[groaning.]
(Wayne) Where's the others? There's three members of the A-Team.
And Kincaid said that there was a fourth working out here somewhere.
Had a man wounded at Red Rock Mesa.
It took another man to take him to the hospital at Willow Springs.
Well, I'd hate to think that you've got some kind of ambush set up here.
What are your thoughts on the subject, Finger? [whooping.]
[glass shattering.]
Well, I guess there's no one hiding here.
You know what I'm thinking? That the A-Team wouldn't be this easy to take down.
No.
I'm thinking where the money is.
Oh, I'm talking about that $100,000 you took from Kincaid.
I'd like it.
It's mine.
Well, I might just take the whereabouts of that to the great beyond.
Not unless you wanna take these two kids along with that secret.
You'll trade them for the money? You've got my word.
You and Kincaid must get along really great.
I guess we better show him where it's hidden.
Would you say about there? [gun firing.]
[men groaning.]
[grunting.]
How's the shoulder, B.
A.
? It's fine, Hannibal.
It's a mathematical equation.
Four thugs equals $200,000.
(Murdock) I may pass that loony test yet.
You Bobby's uncle? Yeah.
Who are you guys? Friends.
I drove 76 hours straight to get here.
He always said I was gonna come to his funeral instead of the other way around.
I'm 10 years older than Billy but he was always the risk-taker.
He was always the one who was trying to be faster sharper more fair.
Where's little Bobby? Well, little Bobby isn't so little anymore.
He's with his girlfriend, down the creekbed a ways.
Bobby has a girlfriend? [chuckling.]
Son of a gun.
Last time I saw him, he Well, I guess he and I ought to find a place in town.
I think he gonna want to stay out here.
Just like his old man, ain't he? Well, I guess here's as good a place as any.
This is for Bobby.
It's his future.
His dad earned it for him.
So your mom's gonna be okay? Yeah.
He had her on drugs.
She's in the hospital now and Kincaid'll have 20 years in prison to think about what he did.
I can't believe it's all over.
If it weren't for you, Bobby, it wouldn't be-- No, no, no.

Some debts just can never be repaid.
I love you.
For the life of me, sometimes I can't figure out why.
Because you're real.
You count for something that's very rare.
Well, it's good to know I have somebody fooled.
It's true.
If you could see what I see, you'd know.
Come on, I wanna get back before they leave.
I wanna say thanks.
I don't think they're the men who wait around to be thanked.
