The Amazing Race Australia (2011) s04e09 Episode Script

Season 4, Episode 9

1
Previously on
The Amazing Race Australia
Six teams battled across the
globe chasing a $250,000 dream.
Best moment of my life.
They found themselves back
at school in Zimbabwe.
- Do you know how these work?
- No.
Our anxiety went from
here to, like, "Zhoom!"
No way. The boys.
Tom and Tyler were top of the class
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
..while Sid and Ash
ended up in detention.
You are eliminated.
Tonight, as the final five
hit Malawi
Welcome to Africa.
Bro, wow!
..all bets are off.
You must vote a team to U-turn.
Oh!
Ooh! Shocker.
But against all the odds
Anything can happen in this race.
We're not going home.
We need an insane miracle.
..which team will pull off
We just smash through it.
..the biggest comeback
Jasmin and Jerome have finished.
..in Amazing Race history?
Jerome will do this with his eyes shut.
They're not thinking twice about us.
Definitely should be.
They're right on us.
I can see Jasmin.
This is Zimbabwe,
the cradle of civilisation,
and home to the largest land animals
on the planet.
It's from here that our five
remaining teams begin
the ninth leg of
The Amazing Race Australia.
Teams will depart in the order
they arrived at the last Pit Stop.
"Fly to Malawi the warm heart
of Africa!"
"Once there, make your way
to the Mgona market in Lilongwe
"and search along the street
of peanut workers
"for your next clue."
Teams are now racing
to find their next clue
at the Mgona markets in Malawi.
For over a thousand years,
the people of Malawi have
built their lives
along the shores of this great lake,
and farmed the land
for rice, corn, nuts, and sugarcane.
Malawi is just half the size
of Victoria,
but home to over 18 million people.
And it's from here
that our teams will continue to race.
We called it amazing,
but it's hot, humid,
sticky, dry, brutal, tough.
What could go wrong?
Heaps.
Thanks to the award-winning Bankwest
Halo Payment Ring, you have
..11,600 Malawian kwacha
to spend on this leg of The Race.
Let's go. Careful.
Ooh.
I don't even know
where Malawi is, really.
Go!
We're staying more time in Africa,
I couldn't be happier.
Ready? Let's go.
Let's go.
My shoelace is coming undone.
Let's go, brother.
With five teams
left in the competition,
you really can't afford
any slip-ups,
because if you've made the top five,
you're clearly a very good racer.
Alright, let's do it.
Let's go, we're in a race.
Hello!
Airport, please.
This is getting to the nitty-gritty.
There's five teams left.
We have to show these teams
that we are not going home.
Go with those cabs
and just stay close to them.
They're all going to the same place.
I swear Malawi's in Hawaii.
It's not!
It said, "The heart of Africa."
Bring it on.
Whoo-hoo!
We're in leg nine now,
it's getting serious.
I think the gloves are going
to come off.
I didn't take a month away
from our baby to not win this race.
We've got to be ruthless.
I've got to think about the end game;
how life-changing 250k can be, babe.
Hello, Malawi. Here we come.
Thanks, mate.
Go, mate, go!
All teams are now making their way
north-east
across the continent of Africa
to Lilongwe, capital of Malawi.
Teams are about to arrive here
at Malawi Airport,
where I'm going to surprise them
with a compulsory U-turn vote.
A U-turn is a massive disadvantage
as it forces one team to do
an extra challenge at a Detour.
Morning.
Tom and Tyler, welcome to Malawi.
Thanks, mate.
You must vote a team to U-turn.
Ooh.
We're gonna vote Tim and Rod.
Why Tim and Rod?
We've just got stronger friendships
with the other groups,
and a bit of an alliance that's
happened throughout the competition.
Are they a threat to you guys?
Yeah, definitely.
They're a massive threat.
Three, two, one,
see you at the Pit Stop.
They've been right on our tail
the last few legs.
Seems like the logical one.
It's heating up.
It is.
It's getting hard!
It's getting hot!
Hey, Beau.
Hey, Beau.
Every time Beau's there,
something's up.
Tim and Rod, welcome to Malawi.
Thank you so much.
Now you must vote a team
to U-turn, right now.
Ooh.
Tom and Tyler?
Tom and Tyler.
They're big threat in the game.
We need to get rid of Tom and Tyler.
We want to get to that map first.
We haven't had it yet.
We've come close, but we're just
praying for this number one spot.
Alright. Well, I'll see you
at the Pit Stop.
Go. See you both. Thank you.
Tom and Tyler was the obvious pick.
They've won, like, six legs.
I'm hoping Viv and Joey and
Surely!
..Jerome and Jasmin would vote
Tom and Tyler.
Yeah.
You'd want to get the strongest team
out of this race!
Yeah.
Jasmin and Jerome, who do you vote?
Er
I want to U-turn Tom and Tyler,
because I feel as though they are
the strongest competitors
in this race.
We're gonna vote
..Ti Tim and Rod.
I'm not going to lie, strategically,
I think it's a better decision
to vote for the strongest team,
which is Tom and Tyler.
But I don't think
we've got the numbers.
Tim and Rod were a part
of the Sid and Ash alliance.
I think the other teams are
going to go Tim and Rod.
Can you trust the other teams?
Absolutely not.
See you at the Pit Stop.
Get out of here. Come on!
Let's go!
I hope we've made the right decision.
Femi and Nick,
you must vote a team to U-turn.
I think that we're going
to U-turn Tim and Rod.
Tim and Rod.
You know,
they're really good competitors.
So, just to give us
a little bit of an advantage.
Not that we have anything against them.
But they're just the only team
that was outside our circle.
Very safe in Malawi.
See you at the Pit Stop.
Beautiful.
See you, mate.
We want to go to the Mgona market.
We're in a race, but please
don't go over the speed limit.
Hey, Beau.
Viv, Joey,
today you must vote a team to U-turn.
Tim and Rod.
Why are you choosing
Tim and Rod to U-turn?
Go on, Viv.
We've had an alliance
with Tom-Tyler,
Nick-Femi, and Jasmin-Jerome.
Friends, huh?
Yeah.
And then the final four, hopefully,
will be our alliance.
And then, you know,
may the best team win.
Yeah.
I'll see you at the Pit Stop.
Go.
Thank you.
That is four clear votes
for Tim and Rod.
This means they'll have to do
one more challenge
than the other teams when they reach
the Detour a bit later.
And we're about to see some drama.
Tim and Rod are a strong team.
We've been quite neck and neck
with them.
So a U-turn might actually cost them
quite a bit of time.
And I think we're more likely
to get to top four
if we U-turn Tim and Rod,
as opposed to Tom and Tyler.
This is my first time in Africa,
and we're just going
to so many different places.
Like, I'm excited.
We have such a deep connection.
It definitely feels like we've
got home court advantage. Yeah.
Look at the traffic going this way.
First impressions of Malawi,
it's very desolate
and not a lot of wildlife.
And there's just a tonne of people
walking on the sides of the roads.
Is this it up here?
There's a flag there.
Jesus, there's a bit going on here.
Oh, no. This is gonna be hard.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Oh, here. Here.
"Here is your task in a nutshell
"Using traditional methods,
"shell and winnow
5kg of Malawian peanuts
"to receive your next clue."
This challenge is nuts,
peanuts!
Grown here in Malawi,
first, you gotta crush them down
to remove the outer shell,
and then the extra bits are shaken
and flicked away from the nuts
in a process known as winnowing.
Teams must prepare five kilos
of this fatty crop.
Once bagged and weighed,
they'll receive their next clue.
Let me tell you,
they're going to need skill,
but overall they're going
to need patience.
Where's the weigher?
Scales are over there.
Alright, let's do it.
There was a bit of pressure,
because we got there first,
and Nick and Femi were there
straight after us.
Here's the clue.
You get your clue in there.
Alright.
"Shell and winnow five kilograms
of Malawian peanuts
"to receive your next clue."
Let's just get stuck into it.
Wait, wait.
Let's put one of these under
so that it catches it straightaway.
We weren't too good
at grinding up the peanuts.
We had no method or strategy.
I'm breathing in peanuts here!
Yep, that'll do.
I actually don't know how to do this.
You have to take all that stuff out.
Like they're doing.
Just throw all the shells to the side.
Alright.
Just swimming in peanuts.
This is ridiculous.
So what you're doing is
we're getting rid of the shells.
Yeah.
So what I'm saying
What? You need this bag?
Move this.
Oh, you put a new one in.
After you've grinded the peanuts,
there was just so much shells
left on your plate.
And obviously what you want to achieve
is just not having
all your peanuts go to the floor.
That was the biggest challenge.
They do it so easily,
but it's like, , it's hard!
Go, mate. Go, mate!
Where's the clue?
Here it is.
Here.
Oh.
"Put your finished peanuts
into a clear bag for weighing.
"There is only one mark scale
to be shared by all teams."
I think we just keep doing
what they're doing.
How do you do it?
You've just got to try get,
keep just the red ones in.
Is that it? Am I doing it right?
Right off the bat, we thought
it'd be a great opportunity
to see which teams chose who
for the U-turn.
Who'd you boys U-turn?
Oh, we U-turned you guys,
to be honest.
Yeah?
You know?
No surprises there.
Who did you boys U-turn,
Femi and Nick?
Who did you boys U-turn?
Tom and Tyler.
Really?
No!
Did you boys do us as well?
Yeah, 'cause we thought
you was right behind us.
It's honestly really dangerous
for Femi and Nic
to have this alliance
with Tom and Tyler.
They're aligning themselves with
the biggest threat in this game.
They need to start running
their own race
and just forgetting
about Tom and Tyler.
We're one of the weaker teams,
though, I don't get it.
Yeah, we've just been lucky.
Quick, quick, quick.
Search the street.
I see the flag
on the left, Viv.
Yeah.
Hopefully they U-turned
Tom and Tyler.
Who'd you guys pick? Viv and Joey?
Joey, You grind.
Yep.
Joey, did either of you guys pick us?
And they just stopped,
it was so awkward.
We did.
You did?
Yes.
We love you guys. Nothing personal.
Why would they pick us?
Hey, let's team up
with the strongest team.
It makes no sense.
That's shocked me, eh?
Please, Malawi,
give us a good run today.
There's something here.
We were the last team to arrive,
so we had to just jump
straight into it.
"Winnow five kilograms of Malawian
peanuts to receive your next clue."
Here we go.
It was actually quite difficult
to grind and churn the nuts
to open them up.
Jasmin's first basket,
I'm pretty sure she just threw
most of the nuts over her head.
Am I doing it right?
Like that?
I'm sure these kids are laughing at us.
Jasmin and Jerome
Hey, mate.
..did you guys turn on us as well?
The silence,
I think, tells the story.
That was the hardest thing
we've done so far, brother.
It's always awkward.
It's all part of the game, sorry.
Honestly, through the other teams
not picking Tom and Tyler,
it seems like they're basically,
yeah, forfeiting their chances,
to be honest.
This is so awkward.
I couldn't even look him in the eye.
It's definitely a shock to us.
But, honestly, this has just
lit the fire under our butts to
..just slay every single thing
that gets thrown our way today.
So
We're just gonna do our best,
and we're not going home.
Hopefully we can be
the first ones out of here.
Maybe we are
the biggest threat in the game.
Ooh!
We're just gonna play hard
all the way to the end.
We're not giving up yet.
Oh, Tomo!
Bro, wow!
We need to hustle, babe.
Debris goes to the top,
if you do it right. Yeah?
You guys come here often?
Good peanut farmers?
Nice. Bang! Bang!
Who did you guys U-turn?
Tim and Rod.
Yeah.
Do they know?
Yeah, they know.
It was so awkward.
Oh, that's so awkward.
They knew we'd all voted for them.
You could see that they know
they've got a U-turn coming up.
So they're just trying
to pump through and get ahead.
So we know we definitely got
the U-turn.
I'm scared, eh?
No, don't worry.
I was angry, devastated, sad.
It was just the worst morning ever.
Don't let it get to us.
We'll be right.
Yeah.
We are just mind-blown
why anyone wouldn't put
Tom and Tyler's name down.
We like you boys, but
Not enough to!
..you guys have won so many.
I don't know why everyone
Maybe we're just good guys.
People like us.
We need to get
five kilos of this, do we?
Yeah.
Let's weigh.
Put it on?
That's it.
Thank you.
Detour.
In this Detour,
teams have got to choose
between Stack and Stitch.
The teams that choose Stitch must
come here to Chezi markets
and find the local talent.
Once they do that, they must
seamlessly sew together two shirts,
but they'll be using a sewing machine
powered by a foot pedal.
When their shirts are done,
they'll receive their next clue.
I don't know
what's happening with mine,
but it's much harder than it looks.
Or they must Stack.
Now, everyone in Malawi uses
charcoal for cooking.
So teams have got to come here
and pack the bags with charcoal
till they overflow.
But they'll use sticks and string
to keep it all in.
That's the Malawian method.
And then they have to carry
the bags to the local vendor
to receive their next clue.
And as you can see,
there's more charcoal than bag.
This is gonna be heavy, dirty,
and overall,
it's gonna get messy.
As we know, the team
that's been U-turned has got to do
both Stack and Stitch
to get their next clue.
Laters, guys. Good luck.
Well done.
Cheers.
We want to go
to Chezi Market.
We just passed some charcoal.
It looks big.
Like, charcoal can obviously get heavy.
We'll have our first weigh after this,
'cause Nick and Femi have already gone.
Ah, let's go weigh up.
Oh, 5.70?!
5.7! We've gone overs!
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
We're definitely stacking.
We're stacking.
See you, guys.
Nick and Femi are
obviously a strong team,
making it this far to the top five.
Chezi Market.
But you also know,
with Nick and Femi in a taxi,
they could end up
in a different country.
We're really hoping
that this is where we need to go.
That's it.
But who knows?
I guess we'll find out soon.
This is so important
to get it done.
We can't be leaving here last
when we've got to do
an extra challenge.
We're trying not to stress out,
because we knew
we had a U-turn ahead.
We had another Detour
still coming our way.
- Let's go weigh this, eh?
- Yeah.
Here we go.
5.13.
Yes!
Yes! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! Thank you.
Detour.
Let's start with Stack.
I think we'll get it done faster.
And then we'll do Stitch
when we get used to it.
Let's do Stack! Let's do Stack!
Go, go, go!
All the teams chose, like, friendship.
I'm sorry, but friendship doesn't
win you 250,000 in this race.
Romey, give this a go.
I reckon this is done.
5.30.
Yeah!
Thank you!
Thank you, ladies.
Stack, for sure.
We're gonna stack today.
Gimme five!
We're not too far behind,
we don't think.
Not too stressed.
Viv, Jasmin and Jerome have finished.
Did they finish?
Yeah. Weighing after this, yeah?
- Thank you, sir.
- Go ahead.
Yeah, we just moved up one position,
but I'm not totally happy
with the vote.
I don't think teams are
thinking strategically.
Teams are thinking,
"Who do we like more?"
This was our one chance
to get in front of Tom and Tyler.
And I just hope this doesn't
come back to bite us all.
Let's weigh it.
Alright.
OK.
5.13.
Oh.
We did it.
We're done.
OK. Thank you.
You wanna do Stitch?
I reckon charcoal, Joe,
because sewing two shirts
could take awhile.
Yeah, but remember, physical.
But I still think
that would be easier and quicker.
It's up to you.
Alright, let's just do Stitch, then.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Starting to second guess
which Detour we should do.
We? You, OK?
After the last leg and having those
water buckets on top of our head
I can't do it!
You can, you can, you can, Viv.
We're so close.
I can't do it, Joe.
You can.
Our strategy going into this leg,
if there is a non-physical Detour,
let's just take it.
We are up against very strong teams.
Alright?
But do you know how to sew, Joe?
That's the problem.
Well, here's the thing, Viv,
I don't know how
Like, I don't know how to sew
as well as you,
but that's not my issue.
My issue is that, like,
I can learn to sew.
You can't learn to carry a bag.
It doesn't work like that.
Alright, we'll just do sewing, then.
Yeah, we're actually
just following Nick and Femi now.
So one and two next to each other.
Hopefully no-one's passed us.
So, the market should be
somewhere on the left.
Is this Chezi?
It's the only one today.
Chezi Market.
- Yeah, that's the flag.
- Yeah, the flag here.
Careful, careful!
Keep the pace, we'll keep going.
We'll find it.
Are you boys doing charcoal?
Yeah.
This is hectic as.
This is hectic.
Do you reckon it's in there?
Charcoal?
Here, here, here!
I see it, let's go.
Come on. Let's go, boys.
Hello?
Yes, in here.
Charcoal merchant.
Whoa.
Wow.
Do you know where the
Charcoal?
..charcoal is?
Charcoal?
Other side of the road?
Other side? Yeah?
So we've got to get it
looking like that, Ty.
Should be, like,
duck down or something?
So people don't see us
when they run past.
Just to make it
any less obvious as we can.
Just up here.
This is it, mate. This is it.
Excuse me.
Can you wait for us? Please, wait.
There, babe. There's a marker.
Oh, yeah. OK.
Let's check that first.
Jerome!
Well, they're all
working together, aren't they?
You got this. Believe in you.
Big ones, big ones,
picking out the big ones.
Our mindset for this challenge
was just to get out
as quick as we could,
'cause in the back of our minds,
we knew we had to do both Detours.
So we just wanted to be fast and sharp.
Yeah, I reckon we're going
to struggle to fit it all in, mate.
The big ones have got to block them
so the little ones don't fall out.
Remember, if we just
do it right the first time.
We've got to carry it as well.
So obviously it has to be strong.
How we looking?
Yeah, alright.
Joey and Viv have gone
to the other one.
You reckon?
There's a flag up there.
Oh, yeah. Good.
There's clothes over there.
Where?
There!
Right or left? Right or left?
Left!
You've gotta tell me, Viv.
Use your words.
I see sewing machines.
OK. That's a shirt.
Doesn't have to be perfect.
Yep, so?
I know sewing is
really frustrating for me.
And Joey has never sewed
on a machine before.
Not sure how I feel right now.
I think it'll be OK. But
..there's just a lot of stuff.
Yep.
And that's finished.
Thank you.
I'm trying to reassure Viv,
as stubborn as she can be,
that this is a challenge for us,
and let's just do it.
Right, let's have a crack at this.
This is really hard, Joey.
Surely can't be that hard.
He made it look pretty easy.
Just go from under here.
Here we go. OK.
Ooh, no.
This is a lot harder
than a normal sewing machine.
Yeah.
I think this is taking way longer
than charcoal would've.
I told you.
What would you like to do?
Let's not play
the 'I told you so' game,
'cause we get the charcoal, what if
it's like carrying it on your head?
I'm not going to say I told you so.
How you doing?
Just don't talk to me, please.
Yeah, I'm not gonna talk to her.
She gets pissed off and stressed
the more I talk to her.
So I'm just gonna leave her be.
If you see her face like that,
it's usually what it means.
Down this side here, OK?
Yeah.
Bit tighter, bit tighter, bit tighter.
So we chose Stack at Detour first.
We had to fill this bag
full of charcoals,
but there was more charcoal
than could fit in the bag.
So we had to use these bamboo stick
things and then tie it all together.
We wanted to get the job done fast,
because we knew we had
another Detour still coming our way.
Well, I think we're leading
the way here.
We're very close to getting
the lady to pull the sticks out,
and we're praying to dear God
we've tied a tight enough.
Look, OK?
Is it looking alright?
Please, please, please, please, please!
Tim and Rod left first,
it was a bit surprising.
They absolutely powered it.
It was a pretty stable bag.
And when the old lady threw it
on her head,
none of the pieces fell out.
Theirs is good.
We were out there in first place.
We were thrilled.
We're so close, so close.
Please don't let it go.
You got it?
Yeah.
We left the charcoal challenge,
and then ran frantically
to find the sewing challenge.
So, just double knot
at the bottom.
Yeah, double-knot the bottom.
After seeing Tim and Rod's,
we might give it a go now.
Theirs looked like a bit of a dog's
breakfast as well, but it held up.
Be gentle, be nice and easy on it.
Best charcoal sack
you've ever seen, hey?
This is good.
It's pretty bloody good if you ask me.
Best thing you've ever seen.
Rip.
"You've hit a brick wall!"
Here in Malawi,
there's a major wood shortage,
because its trees are being cut down
to cook food to feed hungry mouths.
All the villages and towns around me
are made from clay bricks.
This challenge requires the teams
to make 50 bricks from scratch,
using only the natural clay and water
that surrounds them.
Once judged satisfactory by Mr Kalongo,
they'll receive their next clue.
How's that, Mr Kalongo?
It's good.
Good?
Yeah.
That's three. 47 to go.
This should be up
our alley, making bricks.
That's me, just hard work, mate.
Moment of truth.
Oh, that's actually pretty good!
Wow!
We actually passed the first go.
Yeah.
And that coal stayed in that bag.
How it stayed in that bag,
I'm actually not too sure.
Let's go, baby.
"You've hit a brick wall
"..mix and mould 50 clay bricks."
OK, let's go and meet these boys.
Find the market sewing machine station.
Is it here?
Oh, there, is that it? Go, go, go.
Yes, yes, yes!
There it is. There it is!
Hey, guys.
Hey, guys.
So, we see Viv and Joey,
and it was a bit of a sigh of relief
because they were still going.
Maybe we're not being eliminated here.
That's starting
to look like a shirt. I'd wear that.
It wasn't until we saw
the demonstration
that our hearts sank.
Oh, so you've got to put the pocket on?
It was so in-depth.
It was so complicated and complex.
So, every time you get to a corner,
you flick it up and flick it down?
The guy just kept sewing
and sewing and sewing.
We were just looking at him like,
"We are going to have to do this
not once, but twice."
I can't see myself being able
to do this.
I honestly don't know what to do, eh?
We're going to work hard.
We're going to keep on
doing this together
and right until the end.
You can do this, mate.
Big spin and go.
Is that us on the left?
Yeah, just stop here.
Yeah, right here.
When we watched the demonstration,
it actually looked pretty
straightforward, to be honest.
We thought, "How can this be?"
And then put it in there?
Push it in and fold it over the top.
Push it in and fold it over.
It was another good opportunity
that we could try and use a bit
of our fitness and pump it out.
And that's it, done.
That's a good brick.
Let's get stuck straight into it.
Oof!
We need to kill this challenge.
Yeah, let's smack it.
We're hot
on Tom and Tyler's heels, babe.
Like, we could still
This could be our day.
We're in the fight still.
Yeah.
Jerome and Jasmin are here.
Jerome'll do this with his eyes shut.
Jerome and I just get straight into it.
I'm in there getting water,
Jerome's hoeing away
at all of the dirt.
We've stolen one first place
off Tom and Tyler.
So, if they're not thinking twice
about us
They should be.
..they definitely should be.
Can we get a check?
Oh, so tie it with another one?
Honestly, like, the challenge
was harder than we thought.
But after the third attempt,
we finally got it.
Excuse me.
Excuse me.
Just a minute.
Three, two, one.
"At a local brickmaking area,
mix and mould 50 clay bricks."
Let's go.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
The charcoal took way too long.
We need to go full speed to catch up.
Car, car, car, car!
Is that done?
Are you done?
Yep.
We're nearly done with this bad boy.
Joey actually whipped through it
and did better than me.
It's OK?
Thank you.
Here you go. Grab that.
"Mix and mould 50 clay bricks
to receive your next clue."
OK, ready? Let's go.
Let's go.
As a team,
we are definitely competitive.
It's the two of us together
against the world,
and we just get the job done.
See? That's what I'm talking about.
The thread just goes away.
Every time we took a step forward,
it was like ten steps back.
Our fabric was getting jammed,
the machine wasn't working.
Ah, !
It was just a train wreck.
Ah, , I'm dead.
That's it. We're done.
We're goneskis. Like, see you later.
Out of this shit.
They've got
the same amount as us, bro.
Yeah.
We need to speed up.
At this point,
we're second in The Race.
And Tom and Tyler aren't
that far ahead of us.
Our challenge is to put together
50 clay bricks.
Is that too dry?
Or is that fine?
Let's just see what happens, eh?
Thank you.
Come on, let's go.
Let's go. Come on.
We need to hurry now.
Like, seriously.
We left
in front of Tim and Rod.
So we were feeling pretty confident
that we had made up some time.
Better get ahead of Tim and Rod.
Can't let them catch up.
It's actually hard work, eh?
A bit mushed. I don't know
if these are acceptable bricks.
Jas and Jerome, and Tom and Tyler
were there before us.
We were just trying to, like,
copy their colour.
So we started making bricks
out of sand.
I reckon you boys are doing it
well wrong. Just telling you.
Their bricks looked
Shocking!
..a bit like soggy poos.
They were making them
out of sand instead of clay.
Switch on, boys.
Get it right
before Tim and Rod get here.
It's coming together,
but it's taking some time.
We have to make
two full-blown African shirts.
Doing a hem, doing a sleeve,
putting a pocket on.
We're going home,
and it's going to be because of me
not being able to sew a bloody shirt.
I don't understand!
What am I doing wrong?
Oh, it's alright.
Just take your time.
You can do this, mate.
You can do it.
Slow and steady.
The best thing about
our relationship and our marriage
is that, even in the most
high-pressure situations,
we don't take it out on each other.
Mate, we can do this.
We just gotta stay positive.
Yeah, I know.
Tim just kept on saying,
"We're not going home.
"You can do it. Trust in yourself."
There you go, mate. That's it.
That's it.
Are you getting it, mate? Yes!
Rod pulled it together
and just kept sewing and sewing.
He didn't give up.
And by the end of it,
we had two amazingly sewn,
beautiful African kimono shirts,
which I would happily wear myself.
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
Thank you.
Right.
"At a local brickmaking area,
mix and mould 50 clay bricks."
OK, let's go.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thanks for your help.
I think it's this way.
Thank you.
We were stoked.
But, no matter how we look at this,
we're at the end of the pack.
We need to just pull some type
of insane miracle.
And if we don't, we're going home.
I'm pretty happy with that, babe.
They look really good.
Let's get it checked out.
Yeah.
How does it look, Joe?
Yeah, nah. It needs work.
They look pretty good to me.
Yeah, thought so.
Yeah.
Nah!
Oh!
Four.
Four.
OK, let's get back to work.
Alright.
We know what we need to do.
Come on.
Get in there, babe.
Come on, let's be perfect.
We've made 63.
We know a few of them
aren't up to scratch.
We're not good bricklayers.
We're not great bricklayers!
What do you reckon?
Yeah, fair enough.
Couldn't agree more.
Yeah. No, I'm with ya.
I thought they were bad as well.
Get rid of them.
We're in a good chance
for first place, darling.
We keep going.
Yeah.
Oh, well, we've still got it.
Nine.
We've still done it.
Thank you very much.
Seeing Tom and Tyler get their clue
makes us wish we'd U-turned them
when we had the chance.
"Follow the directions
of a local villager
"to find your puzzle pieces
in Lake Malawi."
In this challenge,
teams have got to go to Lake Malawi,
find a bag of puzzle pieces
hidden in the water,
and then assemble this statue.
The only snag is their instructions
are in the African Chichewa language,
and the only way
to translate the directions
is by matching what's being said
to this blackboard.
Once they've found the puzzle pieces
and assembled the sculpture,
they'll get the next clue.
- This is a big day.
- A long day.
Thank you, so much.
Oh!
Thank you!
Thank you, sir.
Thank you very much, sir.
OK.
"Follow the directions
of a local villager
"to find your puzzle pieces
in Lake Malawi."
OK, let's get our shoes and go.
Puzzle pieces, we can do a puzzle
We can do that.
..before these boys.
I mean, like, our best one is
not that far off some of theirs.
Actually, nah, never mind.
Yeah, it's pretty shit actually.
We realised we were making bricks
out of, like, mud,
out of sand,
out of all this different stuff,
when it needed to be clay.
We spent, like, two hours
just wasting time
on all this other stuff.
And when you realise
it's wrong,
and you have to start again,
you're like, "Oh, man.
"Here we go again."
That looks like our best bet.
Yeah. Here we go.
The next clue was to go to Lake Malawi.
We were to split up,
one of us was to listen to the
proper Chichewan instructions
of where to find a puzzle.
Let's go.
The other person that was waiting
on shore had to search in the lake.
I took the translation.
That was actually really hard.
You had to just kind of pick out
little bit of words that you heard.
And he was also speaking very quickly.
Sorry, can you start again?
Can you go slower?
They're having a good time.
- Have you got any of them?
- No.
Can you go again?
Let's just stay positive.
We don't know what's coming.
It's still early in the day.
Driving to the brick-building
challenge, we thought,
"We're out. We're going home."
We arrive, and Joey and Viv,
and Nick and Femi are both still there.
Go, go, go. Down this way.
This gave us this new-found energy,
and we were just like,
"We've got this. Let's catch up."
I think they're pretty comfortable.
We've paid attention
to the demo and that.
This is hard work.
Yeah, we're on a roll!
Still too wet.
Viv and Joey's bricks weren't the best.
It looked like they'd got them
out of the mould,
then, like, sat on them.
The other teams didn't look
like their bricks were
even made out of clay.
They're going quick.
They're extra-motivated.
We'll beat these teams,
if it's the last thing we do.
We could see that Viv and Joey,
and Nick and Femi were looking over,
and they were starting
to panic a little bit.
It felt amazing to see.
We have positive vibes
all the way here.
We can do anything together.
We're not going home.

and we'll get the 50 in no time.
I need you to crush more dirt, quick.
More?
Bit more.
We are on fire.
Yes. Yes.
Oh-ho-hoo!
Can we get a judge?
I'm praying to the nuns
that are watching over us.
They're going to give us
these 50 bricks.
We love you, nuns.
Hallelujah ♪
"Follow directions

Let's go.
Let's go.
Well done!
Well done, boys. Good luck.
Thanks, guys.
We literally were anticipating
rocking up
and there'd be no teams
at that challenge.
But now we've got two teams behind us.
We're dead smack in the middle
of the pack.
Nice and fast.
Just as fast as you can go.
A bit slower.
Again.
- Slow.
- OK.
Tyler and I are sitting there,
stumped, looking at this board.
But then I start to piece
a few key words together.
Red buoy, 11 steps.
I've got three words. What about you?
At the exact same time,
Jerome and I both went to relay
our messages to the water.
Confident?
Not at all.
This is really hard but see
the red float out there
and the red canoe?
Yeah.
They've got something to do with it.
There's, like, a heap of words.
They've only got, like, a couple.
He says "left". He says "red".
He says "15" in it.
I can actually see the water.
There was a red buoy,
orange canoe and a big stick.
Go left red buoy. Go.
It's pretty much a foot race
into the lake with Tom and I.
And we are just running through.
I go towards the canoe
and Tom goes closer to the buoy.
Jerome and I both relayed
different places
and we were listening
to the same sentence.
We're both walking
kind of towards each other
and at the same time we essentially
find a bag of puzzle pieces.
And it's a race back to shore.
Tom's got these long legs.
He's just skipping over the water.
I'm really struggling, trying to run
through the water, through the sand.
Yes, my boy, my boy!
Come on, babe.
I'm trying.
Almost here.
What's in it?
I was a bit aggressive with the puzzle
and I actually think
I ended up snapping it
in a few different places.
So that didn't make it easy for us.
It did make life a bit harder.
Yeah.
This one's a quarter circle.
That's a base.
We've got to get something
to line that up with it.
That's not right.
This one doesn't fit in enough.
Why is this so hard?
In the last hour,
we just smashed through it
Is it good?
Good job.
Oh, thank you.
Yes!
OK. Hold that.
..and we just got ahead
of Nick and Femi.
We got it done.
I got 50 here. 50 bricks later.
Thank you.
We were the last to leave
but anything can happen in this race
and we very much back our ability
to bounce back.

That's right.
Does that look alright to you?
We're neck and neck.

We're so close to winning this race.
Maybe that one is there to connect.

I think we probably got it
a couple seconds
before Jerome and Jasmine did.

We gave it a red-hot crack.
Made it a heck of a lot further
than we thought.
Pushed hard today.
Proud of each other?
Super proud of each other.
Yeah.
I wouldn't do this race
with anyone else.
Viv has exceeded all my expectations.
You know, she's absolutely killed it.
However
You're joking.
..this is a predetermined
non-elimination leg
Oh, my God!
..and you'll continue racing.
Oh!
Still in The Race, man.
Surprise, surprise.
It was a non-elimination
and it was such a shock.
We were basically ready to go home.
Wow. Whoo! OK!
Thanks, Beau.
Look after each other,
race safe, rest and recover,
and I'll see you again shortly.
Come on, bring it in.
Thanks, Beau.
Alright. Come on, get out of here.
Next time on
The Amazing Race Australia
As we reach the pointy end
of the competition
Come on. Let's go!
Are you alright, Tim?
Ooh, Jeez. That's bad, that's bad.
..the final five need to focus
We're getting flustered, Joe.
Argh!
Come on, man!
..and in a shock exit
Teams are dropping like flies.
..a contender goes home.
Tim! Tim!
