The Bold Type (2017) s03e10 Episode Script

Breaking Through the Noise

1 Previously, on "The Bold Type" - We're doing it.
- The Pamela Dolan story? - Why are you giving this to me? - We were scooped.
If we give this to Patrick It will generate tons of clicks on the dot com and it'll give the Board another reason to go all-in with digital.
Now, as part of my fashion show, this class is going to do a little pre-show.
You want to jumpstart your career? - That's where you could do it.
- How do you guys feel about walking in my fashion show? Dev got a bunch of seed money to start a VC shop, and he wants me to help him run it.
- Oh, my God, Richard! - It's in San Francisco.
Obviously, I told him I couldn't do it.
Tia's amazing.
I mean, I'm here because of her.
But I'm also here because of Adena.
Something happened on tour.
I was drunk, and I kissed somebody else.
Jane, I'm so, so sorry.
The final tally is in, and it looks like Lawrence Reynolds, the incumbent, was able to hold onto his seat.
[BOOING.]
Lawrence Reynolds has beaten Kat Edison.
[BOOING.]
Hey, you okay? Kat, you should be so proud you yourself.
- You did such an incredible job.
- You worked so hard [VOICES OVERLAPPING.]
They're rooting for you, and you can still do all of the incredible things that you planned to do.
- You were so close.
- [INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
[BREATHING HEAVILY.]
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Hey, Kat? What do you need? I need to put a smile on my face, and thank all of the people who tried to get me elected, and get the hell out of here.
- Okay.
- Okay.
[GROOVY MUSIC.]
I just had all these plans, you know? All these people that I wanted to work with.
I was gonna shut down that fake abortion clinic on Delancey.
- And then remember Mrs.
Diaz? - No.
I promised Mrs.
Diaz I'd help her find a new apartment 'cause her place is about to go co-op.
And I just feel like I let everyone down, you know? Like, Tia, everyone that donated, all the volunteers, you guys.
- Never.
- Mm-mm.
- Done.
- I had so many projects I wanted to do.
[CLEARS THROAT.]
[EXHALES.]
Hey, Jane.
How are you? Well, not great.
I can't believe Ryan kissed another girl.
I can.
Underneath all of that sweet boyfriend crap, he's just Pinstripe.
And a pinstripe never changes his - BOTH: Pinstripes! - Yep.
- All done.
- Okay.
[EXHALES.]
You guys I think I might still be kind of figuring it out with Adena and Tia.
[CLICKS TONGUE.]
- Oh, honey.
- I just really I don't want to hurt anyone.
- Ice cream? - Not strong enough.
- Alex's whisky? - Not yummy enough.
[UPBEAT MUSIC.]
Oh, my God.
You fixed it.
[THUMPING.]
Do it for me If you're gonna do it, do it If you're gonna do it, do it - Angie.
- Hi, guys.
Oh, hey.
Do it - So Angie, huh? - Yeah, she's great.
- I really like her.
- Good, I'm happy for you.
How long has this thing been going on? Well, if you must know - Hey, man.
- Hey.
Uh, can we talk? I'll take a look at it when I get into the office.
Come by tomorrow morning, and we'll go over it together.
Yeah, I love this project.
Okay, later, man.
- Was that Dev? - Yeah.
Hey, if he wants to invest, make sure to tell him about my idea.
Wake and bake bacon.
Microwavable, weed-infused bacon.
It's like a dream, in a box.
- Yes, "Shark Tank"! - Right? - Yeah.
- Hey, so, he's not still trying to get you in on the San Francisco thing, right? No, he knows that's not happening.
I'm just helping him out a little before the big move - Ah.
- It's, uh, fun.
You know, creative.
It's my version of fashion design.
Yeah, well, not so fun when the clock is ticking and your designs aren't finished, but that's what you get when you switch a model last minute.
Thank God Oliver gave me the day off to prep.
It's gonna be great.
[LAUGHS.]
- I promise.
- Okay.
So let me keep the last piece Jane, it was a huge mistake, but I got on a train the first thing I could to come and tell you the truth, because I don't want to lie to you about this.
I'm confused, 'cause one minute you were telling me that you want to move in with me, and then, the next, you're kissing someone else.
So are you the guy that sat on my couch and helped me with egg freezing, or are you the big shot that I heard on the radio who can't keep his tongue in his mouth? I screwed up.
I know that.
- But it meant nothing, I swear.
- It meant something to me.
It meant that I can't trust you, and I don't know how you really feel.
I'm gonna postpone my tour, okay? I'll stay in town for a few days.
I know that I can make this right.
- No, I don't see how.
- You just have to let me try.
No, you know what? I have to go to work.
So, please, go back on tour.
Before you tear it all apart - Hi.
- Hey, I brought you some campaign memorabilia.
Feel free to hold on to it, sell it on Ebay.
So this sucks.
Okay, but here's the good news.
You lost by 319 votes.
Most first-time candidates do not win, and you basically came within the margin of error.
Okay.
And now we have a chance to see what this is.
You know, what we are outside the campaign.
You know, campaign statistics is not my usual brand of foreplay.
- You sure? - No, it 100% is my usual - Yeah.
- Could you just say "polling numbers" one more time? - Polling numbers.
- Oh, wow.
[BOTH LAUGH.]
So, hey, I'm super excited to spend more time with you.
I just feel like I should let you know, um things with Adena are a little more complicated than I thought.
Yeah, I figured when I saw her at the party.
As much as I tried to deny it, I think that maybe there are still some feelings there.
I get it, you two had a past.
I just really think we have a future.
But hey, if you need to figure things out with Adena, that's fine.
- Are Are you sure? - Yeah.
We're taking it slow anyway.
Have a good day.
- Okay, you too.
- All right.
[GROOVY MUSIC.]
And the 92nd Street Y wants you to do a panel tomorrow.
Something about breaking through the noise.
- Hi, is this a good time? - No, it's not.
Uh, Andrew was just telling me about how our Pamela Dolan story is, uh, doing great.
- Very impressive, Jane.
- Thanks.
- Congratulations, co-writer.
- Same to you.
Um, by the way, did you see Dolan's Tweet? She's accusing us of being fake feminists who took her down just to get clicks.
She's lashing out.
I mean, "Scarlet" has been a strong feminist voice for decades now, so I wouldn't worry about it.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
- [PHONE BUZZING.]
- - Hey, great campaign.
- Oh, thanks.
- Glad to have you back.
- Yeah, it's good to be back.
You'll win next time.
- Oh, it's all good.
- Recount! Next one.
Well, the city's loss is "Scarlet" 's gain.
- Oh.
- I mean it.
Our subscribers loved following you on the campaign trail, as did I, but we're really excited to have your eyes and ears back here on the ground.
- I'm excited to be here.
- Cool.
So we got a couple campaigns of our own in the works.
Zora Lipstick's the first.
Angie will fill you in, and I'll circle back later.
Okay.
Thanks, Patrick.
[GROOVY MUSIC.]
You know, at first, when he said "campaign," I my mind went to - Didn't think makeup? - No.
But the lipstick is actually great.
- Ooh, wow.
- As you can see.
They want video content across all socials, all connected by a common theme.
And obviously, it can't read as straight ad content.
- Yep, got it.
- Oh, um, Alex mentioned that you're in Sutton's fashion show tonight.
- Yeah.
- Cool.
Let me know if you need any help.
Okay, I will.
Thanks, Angie.
[PHONE BUZZING.]
- [PHONE BUZZING.]
- Stick like toffee, sip like coffee Wake me up like hot wasabi Lick me up, I'm sweet and salty Mix it up and down my body Love to hate me, praise me, shame me Either way, you talk about me - Oh, oh - Like "she ain't - Wearing no clothes" - Oh, oh - "When she going solo?" - Oh-oh - "I bet they gonna break up" - Oh-oh But what the hell do you know? - Who, baby, who's - Guess who The topic of your conversation? - I am - I am All the ugly things you say Come and say them to my face Um, uh hey, I'm still seeing Uh, seeing, or in a relationship with? Seeing.
She knows I have feelings - Okay, shh, shh.
- Okay.
Lick me up, I'm sweet and salty Mix it up and down my body Love to hate me, praise me, shame me - I missed you.
- I missed you too.
You make up shit to write about me I fold it up like origami Like "she ain't wearing no clothes "When she going solo?" "I bet they're gonna break up" But what the hell do you know? I've been practicing my catwalk since the first season of "Top Model.
" - Mm-hmm.
- It is not about how fast you get there.
It is about how fierce - you get there.
- I agree.
- I need this hand.
- Okay.
Sutton, what do you think of this necklace? The gold.
That one takes away too much from the neckline.
- Go, go.
- Uh, yes? - Say, Sutton, Sutton? - Yeah? I thought that I had arranged for you - to have access to Ford models.
- You did.
However, um, I decided to use my friends and coworkers because I make clothing for real women, and I wanted tonight to reflect that.
I see, well, I admire your vision, but not your timing.
You only get one first impression with the New York fashion scene.
Don't embarrass me.
Got the gold running deep in my veins [GROANS.]
- Ryan? - Yes.
Even on silent, he's still getting in my head.
I'm just gonna put it to airplane mode.
- Hi.
- Oh, thank God.
- Just, um - Oh, wow.
Who was it? Tia or Adena? - How do you always know? - We all have our superpowers.
- Answer the question.
- Adena.
Wow.
Hello, oh! You look fantastic.
- Thank you.
- Hi.
- Hi.
- Are you Jacqueline Carlyle? I am, and you were in our last issue, the Cocktails and Charisma spread, right? Yep! Any chance you could - sign my copy? - Sure.
And could I get a picture as well? Sure.
[SHUTTER SNAPS.]
My volleyball coach is gonna die when she sees this.
Ooh, college volleyball.
That's impressive.
High school, actually.
I'm on the freshman team.
- Oh.
- I should get back into formation.
Thank you.
It was very nice meeting you.
Nice meeting you.
So she's, like, 14.
Can we use 14-year-old models? Well, if the agency sends them over, and they're right for the shoot, we do use them.
- Everyone does.
- Huh.
I-I just remember seeing the spread and thinking "I wish that I could look that sophisticated when I'm her age.
" [CHUCKLES.]
That doesn't make us fake feminists, right? Okay, five minutes to showtime, people.
["ELECTRICITY" BY SILK CITY AND DUA LIPA.]
- Oh.
- Falling into you - Have fun.
- Thanks.
Baby, even electricity Give it to you And I would stop the world for you You know I wanna let you know I'll never let this feeling go This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny Even if I could, I wouldn't turn on you And I would stop the world for you and I I wanna let you know, I'll never let the feeling go This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny Even if I could, I wouldn't turn on you And I would stop the world for you and I I wanna let you know, I'll never let the feeling go This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny I feel electric, baby She looks so beautiful.
I want to let you know I'm really glad that Carly's here to see this.
Sutton did a great job.
Using real people is powerful.
I'm so proud of her.
I'm falling into you Even if I could, I wouldn't turn on you And I would stop the world for you You know, I wanna let you know I never let this feeling go This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny Even if I could, I wouldn't turn on you And I would stop the world for you and I I wanna let you know I'll never let the feeling go This love has no ceiling, I cannot deny So electric, baby So electric, baby I want to let you know, let you know I think I'm ready, baby Wahoo! Think I'm ready, baby Think I'm ready now, electricity Excuse me.
Sutton? Well, what you did today was quite ambitious.
[EXHALES.]
- And you pulled it off.
- Somehow, I did.
You did.
Joanna Coles agrees.
She's looking for a dress to wear to the GLAAD awards.
Wants you to send her a design.
That is, if you're interested.
I'm definitely interested, yes.
Good, so get me some sketches by tomorrow.
- I'll pass them along.
- Okay.
Ooh After all this time Got nothing to lose You might say I'm wasted on you Ooh, when you break, I break for you too Love can beat us black and blue But darling, I'll take the punches for you Punches for you Punches for you Love can beat us black and blue But darling, I'll take the punches for you What? What? I just missed a lot of stuff.
Big things.
Life things.
- I don't want to miss any more.
- Mm.
You know, I never stopped loving you, Kat.
Okay.
I don't want to pressure you.
I know that you're still seeing Tia.
- Yeah.
- I just I don't want to do this us halfway.
- You know? - Yeah.
Love can beat us black and blue Can you just give me a minute to, you know, think about it? Yeah, of course.
Punches for you I gotta design a dress for Joanna Coles.
Fortunately, it should be an easy day.
[UPBEAT MUSIC.]
Or not.
- What's going on? - I don't know.
People, I'm sure some of you have noticed our disassembled flat plan, and I'm here to tell you why.
"Scarlet" has recently gotten a lot of praise thanks to our Pamela Dolan piece, but Pamela's abuse did not happen in a vacuum.
She comes from an industry that all too often looks the other way in order to sell an image.
An industry that presents 14-year-old girls as women, and makes all the rest of us feel bad about ourselves because we can never live up to that unattainable standard of beauty.
And we have to look at our own role in this.
Now, it has always been my mission to make "Scarlet" a leader when it comes to empowering women.
But we can't do that unless we examine ourselves.
We cannot hold Pamela Dolan accountable unless we hold ourselves accountable, which means a rigorous examination of any and every message we might be sending.
The blank pages on the flat plan are where we can do better.
Which means we need new fashion spreads, new articles, more inclusivity.
Oh, and we also need a new cover.
Something that really conveys this ethos.
So anyone who has ideas, please send them my way.
But this issue goes to the press in 17 hours.
Yes, it does, and it is also the Fall issue, which means it sets the tone for the entire year.
So we must get it right.
All right, let's get started.
[UPBEAT MUSIC.]
Okay, we have to redo three photo shoots, including the fairytale spread, which means new models, your new and improved sewing skills And snacks.
I mean, a photographer.
- Yes, but first, the snacks.
- [CHUCKLES.]
Well, that was a bold move.
What does the Board think? That I'm turning "Scarlet" Magazine into this fall's must-have accessory for every woke woman in America.
Or at least, they will think that after I pitch it to them this afternoon.
Hm.
I know it's risky.
I also know in my gut that it's the right thing for "Scarlet," and for the dot com.
Oh, I'm not changing the dot com.
[SIGHS.]
Though I do enjoy a good sparring partner every now and then, I think it would be better for both of us if we got on the same team.
To our readers, there is no difference between the magazine and the dot com.
To them, it is just "Scarlet.
" It would be really good if you could see it that way.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
Jane, I am gonna need some help filling those blank spaces.
You got any ideas for me? Uh, yeah, yeah, I've actually been thinking about one.
Um, why a feminist shouldn't date a player.
- It's about a friend of mine.
- Okay.
Well, I hope that your friend is okay.
Uh, do you think you can get it in by 4:00 p.
m.
? What's at 4:00? The 92nd Street Y panel.
I need you to cover for me.
They want me to speak about our Pamela Dolan article, but I have to pitch this new concept to the Board.
- Sure, I can do it.
- Okay.
[LIGHT MUSIC.]
[PHONE BUZZES.]
[GROOVY MUSIC.]
And that way, you'll be able to enjoy EPA approval on your offshore wind farms.
Well, if it isn't green energy Steve Jobs, and the other guy that nobody remembers.
- Steve Wozniak.
- You're a nerd.
- Hey, Sutton.
- Hey, what's up, Dev? I better get back.
"Porch & Garden" is looking for a legal definition of "gazebo.
" - Sounds tough.
- It pays the bills.
I'll get back to you about the solar regulations later today.
- Nice, do that, thanks.
- Later, man.
- See you, Sutton.
- See you.
- Take care.
- Solar regulations? - That sounds exciting.
- Actually, it is.
- How was the reshoot? - Crazy, but good.
Hey, so if Dev were starting a company in New York, would you leave Safford? Yeah, in a heartbeat.
We've been talking about going into business together for years.
So is the only reason that you're not doing it because of me? Sutton, you're in New York.
Your work is here.
You're not leaving, I get that.
And our lives are here.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
Oh, steer this thing from the back.
[SIGHS.]
Oh, I don't want to go back to work.
Well, before you do, I obviously have been cyber-stalking Adena because I am a very healthy individual.
- Mm-hmm.
- And I just wanted to say I know my Twitter bio does not read "out and proud lesbian," but I am working on it, and you are helping me work on it, and I just think what we have is really special, even if it's just starting out.
Yeah, I think so too.
[GROOVY MUSIC.]
Okay, enough from me.
I know a lot of you have questions.
Yes? This is for Jane.
In the Me Too era how did you feel taking down a powerful woman? Well, it's complicated.
Pamela Dolan broke a lot of barriers for women, but she was also abusing her power.
So we felt it was our responsibility as feminists, but also as journalists, to tell that story.
Thank you.
Anyone else? Uh, yes.
Hi, my name is Ryan Decker, and I have a question.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
Hi, Ryan.
You said you had a question? Yeah, uh Recently, I've been on a book tour promoting my novel, and because the hard-partying, womanizing guy in my book is kind of based on me, I thought I had to act more like him to help sell books.
But in the process, I forgot who I really am.
I even forgot about my amazing girlfriend.
And I hurt her.
And I am so, so sorry that I did.
She deserves the guy I really am, not the douchebag that I've been pretending to be.
Because because I love her.
I'm in love with her.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Not really sure that was a question.
[LAUGHTER.]
Next? [UPBEAT MUSIC.]
Telling myself I'm fine Girl, you are repeating my mind I wish that I could lose track of time I don't think that Morgan gets our vision.
There's not enough time to book another photographer.
I mean, the models look like real people, which is amazing, but the overall look is still Unattainable.
It's idealized.
And maybe if everybody had a hair and makeup team and perfect lighting, they could attain it, but Okay, so fairytales are fantasies, right? What if we didn't focus on the fantasy? - What if we - Deconstruct it.
Aim the camera at the mice, and the fairy godmother.
Screw it, let's do it.
- Yes! - Morgan.
Don't feel like putting makeup on my face Do what I want With every single part of my body Top to bottom I'm not a super model from a magazine I'm okay with not being perfect 'Cause that's perfect to me Na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na 'Cause that's perfect to me Na-na-na This is a great position.
And then, after that, you want to come around and kind of I can take it from here.
You need to get back to sketching a dress for Joanna? Oh.
Right, yes, of course.
Thank you guys so much.
It looks great.
So this is perfect.
Just make sure and I definitely need you to focus on this 'Cause that's perfect to me All right - Thank you.
- Hey, so I just got a call from the Zora brand rep.
- How's the integration going? - Uh, it's going.
Okay, great, he's gonna come by later today to check it out, and with Jacqueline's big change, we might really need that lipstick account.
Yep.
[SIA'S "I'M STILL HERE".]
I'm fighting a battle - [SIGHS.]
- I'm fighting my shadow Herd fears like they're cattle I'm fighting a battle, yeah I'm fighting my ego Lost youth, where did we go wrong? I'm fighting for me, though I'm lighting the long way home Oh, the past, it haunted me Oh, the past, it wanted me dead Oh, the past tormented me But the battle was lost, 'cause I'm still here Jane.
Jane.
Excuse me.
- Jane, wait up.
- I know you think that that was some cute, rom com-y gesture, but I don't appreciate being ambushed.
I meant what I said, Jane.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
I have to go.
Jacqueline's revamping the whole magazine.
Well, wait.
If I can't convince you that I'm worth a second chance, maybe this can.
[EXHALES.]
We're gonna hit all social media platforms with your product.
It's gonna reach so many people Steven, Angie, I'd like you to meet Priya, Jonell, Paula, and Katarina.
Okay, here's the deal.
These women are here to talk about their incredible work while wearing your incredible lipstick.
Jonell, or Dr.
Lewis, as her patients know her, is the chief medical officer at the Planned Parenthood on Bleeker, and Priya Is a sucker for free cosmetics and a platform.
[LAUGHS.]
And I run a center for homeless queer youth.
And that's just the beginning.
- Here's the pitch.
- Thank you, Angie.
Don't look at my lips.
Listen to what I have to say.
See, these women all have an incredible cause that people need to hear about.
You're the same Kat Edison that just ran for city council, right? I am.
I was hoping to work with these women when I took office, and today, I realized I still can.
I promise that I'll take what you can give, oh So today I'm living for the little victories Anything to get us back to where we used to be 'Cause tomorrow might be hell, might be hell And there's nobody, nobody else With the hard copy blank like this, all I need is an AR update to the "Scarlet" app, and I can put anyone on the cover.
- Oh, my God, I love it.
- Wow.
That really puts our readers front and center.
- Can you get this to Graphics? - Yeah.
Wow, Patrick, thank you.
That's wonderful.
I guess that teamwork thing finally sunk in.
I'm glad.
For the little victories How did your meeting with the Board go? As expected.
They don't want me to move forward with this plan.
- But you're doing it anyway? - It's the right thing to do.
And "Scarlet" is still my magazine.
Until it's not.
- How's it going? - Fine.
I mean, it's, uh Are those sketches for Joanna Coles? - Mm-hmm.
- Red.
What? You know what my favorite part of yesterday's fashion show was? Backstage at the show, with my friends, styling, coming together for a common goal.
You know what was not my favorite part? Sketching alone.
Making patterns alone.
Sewing alone.
Hey, hey.
Design is lonely, but worth it.
- If it's your passion.
- Yeah.
Just today was so exhilarating, and until you reminded me about my sketches, I wasn't I wasn't thinking about anything else.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
I have so much newfound respect for designers.
But I don't think designing is my passion.
I think that this this is my passion.
Um, can't say I'm mad to hear that.
[CHUCKLES.]
[UPBEAT MUSIC.]
- Crazy day, huh? - Hey.
Are you gonna stay for champagne? I can't.
I've still got hours of clearances to get through before this thing goes to press.
Just wanted to come down, say congrats.
Thanks.
- See you at home.
- Yep.
Today, I asked you all to perform a small miracle, and you not only pulled it off, but you created the most powerful, the most beautiful issue of "Scarlet" I have ever seen.
No matter what happens next, I want you all to know that I am extremely proud of each and every one of you.
And now, all that's left is to send it off to the presses! [CHEERING.]
- Cheers, cheers.
- Cheers.
[UPBEAT MUSIC.]
"How to tell if you're with the one.
" Ryan gave you this? It's one of the first quizzes I ever wrote for "Scarlet.
" Ryan told me how he feels, and so he asked me to fill out my answers.
"Does your partner make you feel loved and respected?" You circled "yes, he's basically my Coach Taylor.
" Oh.
Then you added "except when he kissed someone else.
" - That's fair.
- Mm.
"Does your partner put his or her needs before your own, and are you happy to do the same?" You circled "he's like The Giving Tree if 'The Giving Tree' had a happy ending.
" And then, you added "except that time he kissed someone else.
" - I, for one, am sensing a theme.
- Mm-hmm.
"Does your partner challenge you to be the best version of yourself?" Yeah, he does, always.
And we have a great sex life, and he makes me happy, and he makes me laugh, and You love him.
I do, but I've always said I'm not a person who stays with someone who cheats.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
I'm smarter than that.
Jane You might be one of the smartest people that we know, but you're also a human being, not a label.
And so is Ryan.
And if you do break up, just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons.
Ugh, I just wish that this was all way less complicated.
It's always complicated, trust.
Do you know what you're going to do yet? Mm-mm.
It's Tia and Adena are like They're like two of the most incredible people I've ever met, and no matter what I do, I'm probably gonna really hurt someone.
I know, babe, but you've got to do what's best for you.
We all do.
[ELLIE GOULDING'S "CLOSE TO ME".]
Even though we both know we're liars Thanks, man.
We just know that we'll be all right - Hi.
- Hi.
How did you know I was here? Number 14 on the "Scarlet" quiz.
"Do you know what your partner needs when they're sad or depressed?" And you need Tuscadero's.
Two, slices, extra pepperoni.
Also, you're on Find My Friends, still.
- Do you want to sit? - Yeah.
Okay.
And I don't want to be somebody without your body Close to me [SIGHS.]
So I realized today that if I broke up with you, it would be for the wrong reasons.
It would be because I thought that I had to.
Okay, so does that mean It means you can't mess up like this again.
Ever.
'Cause I love you.
And I'm giving you my heart, and I really, really don't want you to break it.
So don't let me down I love you, too, Sloan.
I know.
Eat your pizza.
I'm in the jungle And I don't want to be somebody without your body Close to me Hi.
Thanks for meeting me so late.
Oh, of course.
What's up? Look, I hope you know that I'm in complete awe of you.
Yeah, I think you're incredible.
You're just so inspiring and positive and brave.
About everything, including us, and I really want to stay on this journey with you, but I can't do that as your girlfriend.
I think I can only do that as your friend.
And I don't wanna be somebody without your body Close to me And if it wasn't you, I wouldn't want anybody Close to me - Hey.
- Hey.
- Come here.
- Everything okay? - Everything is so great.
- Hm.
I'm 100% sure of you, and of my career.
- Well, that's good to hear.
- Right? So I see how you are when you talk about the startup with Dev.
You're passionate and excited, and I know that you gave up an opportunity like this before, and I don't think you should do it again.
So I talked to Dev about the big move date, and I got you a ticket on his flight to San Francisco.
[EXHALES.]
Sutton, we talked about this.
Living across the country from you it's too far.
I know, I know, but here's the thing, I never would have figured out that I was passionate about working at "Scarlet" if I hadn't tried design, and I never would have tried design if I didn't have you and my friends pushing me every step of the way.
[SOFT MUSIC.]
Richard, you deserve to love what you do.
[LAUGHS.]
You have to at least try.
And I'll be there cheering you on the whole time.
I know we had to cancel dinner, but I have a fridge full of food if you're hungry.
Oh, I'm I'm okay.
It's been a long-ass day, but I'm good.
Hm.
I'm okay.
So I've been thinking a lot about what you said.
About giving us a real shot.
Yeah, me too.
So ever since I lost the election, I've been looking for something to make me feel better.
You know, something or someone to distract me from how embarrassed and disappointed and hurt I felt, or, well, feel about losing.
Mm-hmm.
I think if I don't run from it, I can turn it into something really incredible.
But I can't do that if I just jump back into a relationship with you.
And I know we can't do it halfway either.
I need to find myself again.
So right now, I'm choosing me.
Night on fire I need to be by myself, and I'm really sorry.
Um Kat okay, I when I said that I was thinking about us all day, I meant it.
I I spent the morning looking at apartments, and - Oh.
- When "Scarlet" called, I just assumed that you had something to do with it.
"Scarlet"? What what do you mean? Yeah, they offered me a job as their new in-house photographer, and I said yes.
Oh, wow.
No reason to stay Mm-hmm, that's great.
That's really great.
It's a good reason to go I love you.
I know you're talking to the coffee, - but I love you too.
- Me, three.
Is Adena really going to work here? - Yeah, I guess.
- And Tia? It was hard, but I I know it was the right thing.
See, that's how I feel about Richard and San Francisco.
Do you think he's actually gonna go? Yeah, I think there's a really good chance that he will.
- And if he does, oh, man.
- Honey.
I'm gonna be masturbating so much.
Okay.
Anyway, Ryan is gone for a month, so I'm gonna be focusing on work and relying on you guys to get me through the time apart.
Yeah, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have you guys and "Scarlet" to rely on.
Seriously.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
- Hello.
- What is this? Are you shitting me? - Andrew.
- Yeah, yeah.
Where's Jacqueline? I don't know.
I'm lost in the words Don't know how I ended here Trapped in a blur
